You awake in complete darkness. Trying to move your limbs, you find that you are in a very tight space, and there is very little oxygen in the air around you.

Luckily, you realize you do not need oxygen. You are a robot.

You discover that you are capable of basic mobility, and logical thought processes, but that is about all. You also discover you are a failed prototype. Nobody else can think like you.

>Do my eyes light up? Do I have alternate modes of perceiving the world around me?

You look around yourself to find that, alas, both of these are answered with a no.

But you find a number of programs. You cursorily scan the data shown on the outside. They seem to be specializations. You seem to be an adaptive robot, capable of completely changing to suit the current situation.

>There are 4 optimizations available within these programs<

>Choice accepted. Let us begin<
How odd, you think, for a program to speak like that.

The programming begins to take its effect, adding lines of code here and there. You feel your logical reasoning and observation skills grow in strength, and your ability to detect and prevent harm to yourself and others becomes apparent.

You suddenly notice the material of the area around you. You are in a simple wood coffin, very poorly made. Additionally, a simple pulse of sonar tells you that you aren't buried very deep.

Dig.
>>
>>19997583
You dig.

And dig.

And dig.

You dig on an angle to prevent the dirt from collapsing inward, a spiral. The dirt is packed enough to not collapse in. After about 12 seconds of digging, your "eyes" detect light. You push the dirt away. You see a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. You pull yourself out of the tunnel.

You are in a grassy plain. There is nothing around you except for a sparse savannah tree a foot or so to your left.

You decide now is a good time to decide upon a name.

You decide upon a rather normal name, or what you assume is normal. Alex Murphy.

You etch that into your memory files. From now on, you are Alex Murphy.

The decision of your name seems to unlock an encrypted file in your systems that you couldn't detect before. You notice, looking inward, that there are thousands of encrypted files inside of you, just revealed now.

A foreign connection begins to worm into your mind.

bzzzzzzzzt-click

"Ah... Alex Murphy, is it? I like that name. Very simple, but with a dash of elegance." A voice inside your head says. It is completely internal, but you can still hear it as if you were hearing a normal noise. It is the voice of an old human being, male, very deep and gravely, quite scratchy as well.

You ask the voice inside of you "Who are you?". Your voice is... completely ambiguous. You should get to fixing that soon.

"You can call me Doc. I was your creator and your executioner. I programmed you, and I locked you in your coffin. But not before downloading my brain patterns to an ultra-secure file locked away in your memory. I am most likely long dead, but I live on in your "mind", if it can be called that. You try, but you are incapable of deleting the file. It is locked by a simply ludicrous series of passwords, and you are sure the consciousness wouldn't take kindly to your attempts to bypass them.

"Don't worry," Doc says, noticing your thoughts on the matter. "I am incapable of actually effecting your in any way, physically or, well, mentally. I am simply here to lend advice to my creation. I don't want my magnum opus to fail, after all."

You believe that is reasonable. You stop attempting to delete Doc.

>>19998172
"What is my purpose?" You ask, at the same time shifting your voice closer to that of a human male, and lowering it by an octave. It sounds much better and much less ambiguous now, but still somewhat ambiguous because there is no real tone definition to it. You'll have to mimic a living being's sounds to add more personality to your voice, you suppose.

"You are nothing more than a failed experiment to create artificial thought. I made you as a failure on purpose, though, so that I could get a chance to bury you out here. In actuality, you were better than perfect, but I intentionally locked the thought system away to prevent copies of my creation being made. You have awoken 250 years later. It is April 1st, 2400. Your purpose... is simply to live."

"Which direction is the nearest city, two hundred fifty years ago? Why did you choose two hundred and fifty years to put me to sleep?" You ask as you stand up and start walking straight ahead.

"The nearest city is very far away, at least 250 years ago. I decided that 250 years was enough time for society to change enough that nobody would remember my supposed failure and, of course, it would be enough to provide an unseen environment for my creation to live in. I'd say, however, keep going in the direction you're going."

"Highly unlikely," Father says. "I was the lead researcher on the project. Before I committed suicide and plugged myself into you, I deleted every single scrap of information they had on the subject. Anything created now to imitate you is likely very rudimentary, and nowhere near as complete as you are."

Your energy is used by abilities and is replenished slowly over time.
>>
Your mind goes blank as the shapes come into focus. They don't appear to be any sort of feline that was alive 250 years ago, some newly unlocked databases tell you. They appear to be a subspecies of cougar, with a wolf-like muzzle and fangs, and exceptionally powerful looking legs. The fur is a mottled grey with a few dead-grass-yellow colored hairs distributed throughout. The two animals make a noise which could be described as a roar and a howl at the same time, which reverberates through the air and through your ear sensors.

You stand as still as possible while digging a small hole with your feet. The catbeasts prowl around you like sharks encircling a prey. You don't get very far with your hole, maybe half an inch, before one of them leaps at you, fangs bared.

You release a burst of feedback and duck under the catbeast, allowing it to barrel into the other one. You begin to scan the two creatures and add them to your database.

Dodge, until you find an opening to strike the beasts ears directly with a feedback. Hopefully we can rupture an eardrum.
>>
You begin analyzing possible weak points of the cougarbeasts. The powerful legs put a lot of pressure onto the feet and ankles during chasing and leaping, and the jawbone seems to be quite loose, possibly in order to release loud howls and eat things easier.

The cougarbeasts begin to come back from their daze. You grab the upper jaw of one, put your foot on the lower jaw, and stomp quite hard. You can barely hear Father go "Oh my" in the back of your head. You don't look at the damage you've caused.

The other cougarbeast barrels into you and pins you against the ground.
