Hey /tg/, does anyone here remember WETSUIT?I found a copy of a game they made for it a few weeks ago, so naturally I had to scan it and share it with you guys. http://www.mediafire.com/?j78nxhjs8110d0b
For those of you who never got to see it, WETSUIT (you gotta write it in all caps) was a show that aired in syndication for two seasons in the early 90s. A lot of people said it was a SeaQuest ripoff, but it had a cool setting and I really liked it as a kid. There's a quote on the back cover that says "It's Mad Max meets Baywatch", which is pretty much the setting in a nutshell. I'm guessing most of the female leads weren't chosen for their ability to deliver lines, but the post-apocalyptic Waterworld-style setting was a lot of fun.
oh shitOH SHITWETSUIT threadoh man I've been waiting years for someone to mention this show, and now it even has a game, holy shitI hear it's pretty big in russia, they've been producing a knockoff show called FROGMAN for ten years now
Here's the map that's included. I think they modeled it on the one that CYCORE displays on the situation map.
>>19986473> they've been producing a knockoff show called FROGMAN for ten years nowAhahahaha no shit? Not surprised that Russians like post-apocalyptic stuff.
So the game itself is diceless (not freeform, just diceless). You have three stats that are all rated 1 through 5, and you also have a bunch of Traits. When there's a conflict you can use the number for one of your stats (depending on what kind of action you want to do) and add traits on top of that number. If you can beat the difficulty number the GM sets, you win.
>>19986524Well, it's pretty much an improvement for them.
>>19986524yea, lol. It's not quite as focused on adventure as WETSUIT is, but it's pretty good. Find a fansub though, the english dub is terrible.Anyone remember the WETSUIT episode where the crew finds that ruined underwater casino and pulls a heist on it, dodging through it's ancient automated security systems?shit was cash bro
Here's the big list of sample traits they give you.It seems like this was made after Season 1 but before Season 2, since it only mentions Garrison Cole being in one episode.
>>19986604You can really go down the list and pick which traits were based on characters from the show.>>19986575>Anyone remember the WETSUIT episode where the crew finds that ruined underwater casino and pulls a heist on it, dodging through it's ancient automated security systems?Wasn't the name of the casino "The Golden Fountain" or something? I remember it had some ironic-because-it-was-underwater-now name.
>>19986625I think it was even more obvious, Neptune's Bounty, I think it wasWETSUIT was not about its creative setting names
>>19986604>Animal AllyCan I be friend with Irukandji jellyfish?
>>19986681It was mostly "I get it!" humor. There were all kinds of jokes worked into the background. I remember at least two episodes where they showed some road sign that obviously led into the ocean.
I re-scanned the character sheet page. Now it's slightly less crooked.
>>19986604>Navy SEALThat covers...a lot, doesn't it. >ArgumentativeHmm, this one or Navy SEAL? Tough choices...
So is there anything about the tv show online? I can't even find it on tvrage or imdb.
>>19986685>Can I be friend with Irukandji jellyfish?Well, since the Animal Ally trait was based on that guy with the Capuchin monkey, I think the assumption is that your animal has to be at least a little intelligent.
>>19986712pick navy SEALplay a game set in the FROGMAN universeyou are spetsnaz out of fucking nowhere
>>19986733I dunno...being argumentative has its advantages too. I mean, I could start verbal fights and stuff. That's pretty powerful.
>>19986745spetsnazout of fucking nowherethis is not debate comrade
>>19986727I could swear I read the article about it there. They don't show Marseille on the back cover, even though he's one of the main characters. Racists!>$4.95Kinda pricy, but I guess fans were willing to shell out five bucks. Oh, the 90s. Surprised they didn't put a "Collector's Item!" tag on the cover.
>>19986760oh my, I forgot how hot the main female lead wasdat blode hair hrngh
>>19986760Unfortunately, the collectible trading cards they promised have been lost to the ages. I've been looking around for scans or even anyone that has them on ebay, but so far I'm SOL.
>>19986812Yeah, the Captain was a MILF before the word "MILF" existed.
I'd kill for a set of the action figures from this. They all came with a spear gun.Every. Damn. Character.RPG scans are just about as good, though.
>>19986853even though the spear gun was only Marseille's weapon of choicefucking toy marketers man
>>19986863Well, what do you want? Samantha Yang's Action Research Notes?
>>19986884yes. you had no idea how nofunallowed I was when I was a kidmy toys were canon dammit, so that led to a bunch of shitty homemade props and Marseille had like eight speargunshardcore
>>19986853>>19986863>>19986884THEY HAD TOYS????>>19986911>that led to a bunch of shitty homemade props and Marseille had like eight speargunsMY SIDES
>>19986824beeg has a milf that looks kinda like her here:http://beeg.com/1082354
>>19986937oh fuckfappan like kenshirofist of the north star shit goin' downthanks anon
>>19986937Wow, that is...Kind of uncanny! She's like a trashy porno version of the Captain on meth. If she had been born twenty years earlier she could have cleaned up doing parodies of it. WETSLIT or something.
>>19986979don't you talk shit about my waifu
>>19986937>blowjobAaand you lost me.Seriously, blowjobs do NOT get me off. I mean, it's like playing a game. Sure, you can watch someone else play, but it's nowhere near as fun as playing the game yourself.Anyway. Never had cable as a kid, but I fucking loved Waterworld, so I'm here.
>>19986952You're most welcome. Internet synchronicity is amazing. I was just cruising this thread and then beeg, and lo and behold I saw it. Weird but true. As the saying goes - /tg/: you don't even need the other boards any more.
My mom used to watch reruns of WETSUIT all the time, the only real thing I remember about it was the red warning lights EVERY EPISODE because they were running out of fuel.
This series doesn't even have a wikipedia article, and I can't find anything on it with Google. Are you guys SURE this was a tv show and not some kind of mass shared hallucination?
>>19986731>>19986685>Can I be friend with Irukandji jellyfish?> I think the assumption is that your animal has to be at least a little intelligent.Funny you should mention that. At Comic-Con this year, I had a conversation with a memorabilia reseller, and while he didn't have any WETSUIT stuff on him (who does?) he did have some interesting information.Turns out, for the couple years he was "in the industry" in the 90's, he got a gig as an unofficial "official" freelancer for WETSUIT, and penned a couple scripts during the last season that were bought, but never produced. He says that the third season we never got was going to focus on this - I shit you not - psychic jellyfish called "The Voice of the Ocean."The various factions would be out to capture it, with the Beacon becoming its only safe haven for the second half of the seasons. It was supposed to end with hints that it might be an alien.Be glad it was canceled, folks!
>>19987055motherfucker I was just talking about the toys
I'm confused is this a real action show from the 90s, that it was so bad it got removed from the internet?
>>19987057Fuck you, that sounds awesome even for a shit show.
>>19986918>THEY HAD TOYS????Don't get too excited. These were less than GI-Joe quality, man. We're talking five points of articulation and you couldn't fit the speargun into the hand half the time.
so freaking sick of all you WETSUIT elitists, SeaQuest was way better, you just love WETSUIT because no one freaking remembers it.Geek cred is one thing but come on...honestly...do you remember the CG they tried to pull off in the second season? So pathetic.
>>19987122You mean the bit with the squid from the 2 episode arc?
>>19987122Now I've seen it all...wetsuit hipsters vs seaquest diehards. what has my internets come to?
>>19987131If you can even call it that...I've seen more realistic looking bath toys....if you're not going to put any effort into it, just use a guy in a suit, at least then it will be funny.
>>19987122>SeaQuest was way betterYou can take your talking dolphin and cram it in your blowhole, buddy.
>>19987122To be fair, their budget was probably 1/10th the budget SeaQuest got. I thought they did a good job with what they had, even if they did blow most of their CG wad during the opening credits. That shot where the Beacon is in the foreground and that swirling megastorm cloud was blotting out the horizon was pretty epic when I was a kid.
>>19987203Agreed...honestly, I think the biggest problem with the show was the time slot. I could never figure out when the damn show was going to be on...feel like they changed it 5 or 6 times.
FACT:If not for WETSUIT, there wouldn't be a Firefly. Joss Whedon has admitted, and not the least bit shamefacedly, that he was a huge fan of the show.
Seriously guys this show does not exist on the internet. If this is an elaborate troll then congratulations you win.
>>19987250Aaaaand I suddenly feel as if I could do without that show.Fuck, I don't even LIKE any of his other shit. Firefly and all it's spinoff's was the only tolerable thing Whedon has ever done.
>>19987250>Ragtag group of variously shades-of-gray characters wandering around a endless frontier in a high-tech vehicleTotally can't see it.
Woo! Someone else remember this show!
>>19987047That was their runabout hoverspeedboat thing that they used to go ashore or when they didn't want people to know they were in the area. The actual Beacon had nuclear generators (that still broke all the goddamn time)
Is this an elaborate prank?>implying I care
>>19987120 here.Dug up a pic of one of the toys I have. This was one of the Beacon's frogmen. They came in three-packs with two divers and one sea-creature. You know, tiger shark, manta ray, moray eel, that sort of thing. You can see how cheap they were with the details, especially for the generic toys.Pity I lost the spear gun.
>>19987378Someone never have a childhood, it seems...
>>19987394Wow, that is some shitty molding right there. I can just barely tell that's supposed to be a stock crew wetsuit. I see what you mean about the hands.>>19987425>>19987404>>19987378Got any underwater girls?
So. Worst episode, gentlemen?I vote for "Whalesong." Look, I could buy that a sonic vibration, at the right frequency, could disrupt and possibly even disarm floating mines. But I don't buy that a god damn humpback could teach it to you. "Our cousins from the deep" my fat ass, Marseille.
>>Thulsa Doom is pleased!MORE SWIMMERS FOR THULSA DOOM!
>>19987453sort of
>>19987294
>>19987456>worst episodeGotta go with the one where they picked up that annoying-as-fuck kid. I never really thought about why I disliked him as a child, but now that I'm older I have the strong suspicion he was being tested out as a possible permanent addition to the cast. I don't know why they thought "annoying orphan" was a good fit for "sexy big-breasted ladies fighting cyborgs".
>>19987514>>19987456This was actually a good episode, but when they went to the South Pole for the first time (the first time on the show, I mean) and Samantha had never seen how the locals make penguin stew. When they bring the club down.THAT.SOUND.They didn't show it (iirc, just her reaction), but I can still hear that sound to this day. Poor pengie.
>>19987583C'mon, in 2018, penguins were like fucking pigeons.
>>19986397>early 90sthat means gorgeous chicks in high-cut bikinis.oooh boner here we go!
ok i gotta watch this showbut alas, my googlefu must be weak because i cant find it. i even do WETSUIT all caps and all i get are videos advertising wetsuits and instruction videos on how to put them on"watch WETSUIT online" yielded nothing"WETSUIT tv show" got me nowhereanyone know where to start?
>>19987624It's still nightmare fuel.
>>19987676it doesn't exist

>>19987705That was just mean.
>>19987733>>19987705>>19987690
>>19987676I think I might have at least one episode taped, but I dunno what you can do. Surprised no one's put anything from it on youtube.
>>19987456>>19987456Four words:"The octopus is drunk".That was some Japanese-level fanservice there. I couldn't watch that episode with my parents home for fear they'd walk in on it.
>>19987851Oh, come on. That was hilarious and positively TAME compared to...well, fuck...Baywatch, even.
>>19987892That's true. You know, I don't think WETSUIT ever did any slow-motion shots unless it was when someone got stuck with a needle full of drugs or something. No running-on-the-beach shots anyway.
oh, anonymous. you so crazy. we havn't had one of these kinds of threads in a long time but I must admit you have gone to significantly more trouble than others have in the past. I think Science: the Hypothesis only got a dozen or so cards made. I tip my hat to you.
Thread is archived here:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=WETSUIT
>>19987949It came with cards too?
>>19987941>No running-on-the-beach shots anyway. Not a whole lot of beaches you'd want to run on in post-apocalyptic flooded earth. In fact, the only time I remember them "lounging" on a beach was the episode called "The Oasis" which was based on the old Lotus-Eaters part of the Odyssey.
>>19987057> It was supposed to end with hints that it might be an alien.>Be glad it was canceled, folks!FUUUUUUUUUUUUUThat would have been awesome...

Putting the 1d4chan article together... anyone have any stills from the show they care to share?
>>19992227All right, here we go:http://1d4chan.org/wiki/WETSUIT
you did it again veeral. come on out and take a bow.

>>19996083you did it manyou made up a bad tv seriessamefgged a bunch of posts talking about it being a real gamefooled /tg/i applaud you good sir
>>19996515>>19987805Was starting to go google it too until I saw the last few posts. Well played. It feels very much like the era of 90s syndicated shows, right after the era of heroic helicopters/cars/bikes/trucks of the 80s.And, and excuse for sweet swimsuit pics. Good show, everyone.
>>19987676>>"watch WETSUIT online" yielded nothingNow, now. I'm sure there are some very unpleasant google search categories your IP ended up in.
>>19996515I can't take all the credit; I got some of my players in on the fun.
WeEnjoyTheSexyUnderwaterImageryThanks
>>19996585I also offer my applause for this, because holy crap it felt like a real thing. The only thing that made me wonder if it wasn't was the 'Wetsuit, Haircut and Glasses' stat-line, but then again, Dallas had the use of cards well before any indy game used them so not far out there.the sad thing is now I'll never get to watch this.
>>19997173this thread brought to you by the fine people of #mutecityI'd be lying if I said this was the only fake syndicated 90's show we came up withthis week
can we get some seapunk up in this bitch
Well, fuck you Viral and Co.This is now a real game. Even if there will be no sweet, sweet miniature figurines of sexy girls in bikinis with spearguns.
>>19997513It is a real game. The rulebook was posted here, don't you see? I've even played it.
>>19998341Clearly he meant it is a real TV series. And requires more discussion on this topic.
>It's not actually real.Dammit, I want this to be a thing now.I fucking loved Seaquest, and would love having a shitty rip-off to watch.Even more so, I want a 90s Action Sci-Fi game, like Seaquest/Waterworld/Escape from L.A., just when I'm gearing up to run a Space Opera game. FFFuuuu....

I of course jumped at the opportunity
Submarine Titans was here
Who was Marseille anyway?
>>20005026>Who was Marseille anyway?Well... he was the token bad-ass, more or less. His ethnicity, while never explicitly mentioned in the show, was "dark". The actor that played him was black, afaik. He had short dreadlocks, he wore a bandanna, and as people said he used a speargun. He was generally the guy who knew how to fix machines, although he was terrible with computers (I remember one episode where he was the only one aboard and had to interact with CYCORE to save everybody else... funny shit).I think his mom named him after the city; other than that there wasn't a lot revealed about his past other than he used to work as a salvager.
