The year is 2025
Your name is Dave, and you never asked for this.
Instead, it fell into your lap.
Over a short few months, many things have happened. You were implanted with the Bullfrog, a prototype neural interface. You met many other people, cyborgs or not. You fought for your new friends... and then things went strange.
New technologies appeared. Power shields. Power cores. Plasma weaponry. For war, for protection... Then your girlfriend made something new. Based on the concept behind power shields, she called it a 'Repulsion Drive'. Instead of deflecting enemy bullets or weapons, it just deflects itself, propelling the vehicle forth.
And then you went to Mars, and things changed. Alium technology had been sitting there, for who knows how long. Future Van Co. hired you to take down a rampant AI, and you took an artifact for yourself. It was a wormhole generator- so you used it. You and your friends found an alium world, complete with a species that had been hearing Earth's broadcasts for generations...
But now... something else with wormhole technology is arriving.

You, Amy, Lucca, and Sigma are standing in the spire- the Alium building, surrounded by Aliums.
"What?!" Amy says into her radio. "Where is it?"
<It's above us.> Grayson responds- he's still in the Sleipnir, along with everyone else. <And...>

It cuts off.

And then Valeq, one of the aliums, collapses. Then the other aliums start collapsing, eyes rolling into the back of their head.
Amy and Sigma do too, falling unconscious. Something ebbs at your consciousness, and you're having trouble staying awake. Lucca sways, but bites her lip. "Let's go." She said, somewhat woozily.

>Roll 1d100. Taking first roll only.

Who's betting its the "others"?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No.

rolling.
lets do this.
>>
>>19908812
Fucken tg dice.
>>
Your grasp on consciousness suddenly releases, and you fall forward, your body refusing to move properly.
"Dave!" Lucca calls, and everything goes dark.

You catch... snippets, in your forced unconsciousness. Small moments, and small phrases.
"Oh my god, there's two of them." You remember Lucca saying, dragging you with her.
You remember a series of glowing, burning glyphs, identical to the first time you touched the alien technology, burrowing into your mind like an insidious song.
"Dave? Wake up, Dave!" Lucas says, shaking you. "They took her!"

Eventually, Onyx translates the few glyphs you see.
<<Leave the toys.>> The glyph says, . <<Take the pets. Take our brother's tool, as well.>>

When you come to, you're sitting in the Sleipnir, Lucca on one side, Lucas on the other, and Sigma lying on his back, several plates of armor removed on his leg- and his leg is bandaged.
"Dave?" Lucca asked.
>>
>>19908874
Oh fuck they took amy didn't they? ITS FUCKING ON NOW!
>>
>>19908874
"Huh? What happened to Sigma?"
>>
"Huh? What happened to Sigma?"
"He was knocked out by. . .whatever they did, and then when they took the warp drive, he woke up and fought." Lucca said.
"They... took everyone else." Lucas said, gritting his teeth. "Amy, Douglass, Grayson, Epsilon.. the entire science team. . .They didn't take the four of us, but that's it."
You sit up.
"They took Amy?"
Solemnly, Lucas nods.
You grit your teeth.
"It's fucking on, now." You growl.

>>19908970
Do we still have the wormhole generator?
>>
time to get azure a body its ass kicking time
>>
>>19908982
I think that what's meant by "warp drive".
>>
>>19908982
No, they took it. read the post above yours.

Do we have a copy of the information we took from it? I am not entirely sure, what exactly it did. If we understand the information stored on it, we could perhaps emulate its effect.
>>
>>19908982
warp drive IS the wormhole generator, so no. WE'RE DOING THIS OLDSCHOOL *after a quick chat with the asurians about wtf just happened, and asking them for help.
>>
wait we cant warp fuck that means were stranded
>>
"Do we still have the wormhole generator?"
"No." Lucca said. "My drones watched them tear it out of the wall. Then they did... something, and burned these symbols into my head. They didn't touch anything else."
You stand, and make sure your power suit is still active- It is.
They didn't take everything made of alium tech, at least- You still have the teleporter built into your bullfrog.

<Azure.> You say. <Time to get you a body.>
<What? Why?>
<It's ass kicking time. Get onto the sleipnir's computers and start designing one.> You say.
<What about materials?>
<Use the atomic goop.>
<Y-yes, Dave.> Azure says. You connect to the computer core, and feel Azure leave your body.

"Dave, what are you doing? They took the wormhole artifact." Lucca said, depressed. "We're stranded here."

You check your bullfrog's data-banks, and you still have all of the information you got from the artifact, in translated form.
>Roll 1d100 on reverse-engineering. Taking highest of first three rolls.

rolled 25 = 25

well fuck

>>19909072
>>19909074
>>19909076

Well, well. I am fine with this, if this means it takes some time before we can reroll (lets us regenerate some brain for magic bullshit as well)

If those are the only roll towards reverse engeneering I propose using our fatepoint however. (We have one, right?)
>>
rolled 65 = 65

welp looks like were stranded people rolling for Azure being a badass
>>
>>19909059
Fate point.
This is too important.
They've got our friends, our girl and our only way outta here.
Fuck these assholes, let's make 'em pay.
>>
>>19909059
What are we actually trying to reverse-engineer? If it's the wormhole device and our this is the only shot we get at it, I agree with >>19909096
>>
>>19909103
Seconded, I suggest we fatepoint.
>>
>>19909103
Using a fatepoint simply to hurry unprepared towards enemies would be a waste in my eyes. However if it is needed to go there at all within an acceptable timeframe I am (as said before) for it.
>>
<Onyx.> You say. <Tell me what I need to know to make one of these.>
<I will.> Onyx says. . .and then suffuses your mind in gibberish. Torrents of unintelligble data race through your head. It burns through your head, rampaging. It's painful, more painful than grasping the glyphs while you were on mars. More painful than getting shot. More painful then getting hit by a car- the thing that started all of this.

"Dave!" Lucas says, shaking you. When you come to, you feel that you've been biting down hard on your tongue. You pull it back into your mouth. . and simply sit down, like everyone else is.
Nobody says anything.

You can try again.
You remember making amy swear to stop you if you tried messing with more alium tech... But she's not here now, is she?
>FATE POINT VOTE INITIATED: USE IT?
>[] Yes.
>[] No.

>>
>>19909119

Rest, try again in a few hours. Think about all of this rationally. Lets see if Onyx can make anything of the stuff in the meantime.
>>
>>19909138
>For reverse engineering the information on the wormhole generator.
>>
>>19909163
Ah, thanks. Do we get another try if we don't?
>>
rolled 93 = 93

no we shall wait and do our fuck you hackery by focusing on our teleporter aluim tech considering they can tell if u use wormhole we shall develop our own way rolling for it.
>>
>>19909119
Do we even have brainmatter left to try again? I mean it is kind of insane to try this with 5% of our Brain. Trying it with even less would be plain stupid.

Lets think about this: They were taken alive. They either have some interest in them staying alive or they will most likely be dead when we arrive no matter how fast we move. Rushing this will help no one
>>
>>19909119
YES, USE THE DAMNED POINT.
>>
>>19909179
>Just another try when your brain is healed, but that takes time.
>And you don't know exactly what 'they' plan to do with who they captured.
>>
>>19909190
YES THE DICE GODS APPROVE
>>
>>19909150
And in a few hours those aliens that just whipped everyone's ass could be far out of our reach with -our friend and Amy-.
After they've gone and whipped everyone's ass at that.
Plus, it isn't Dave's style at all to sit and wait around and plan when it's time to get while the gettin's good and get them with an plasma blast on their ship's ass.

Yes, use the point.
>>
>>19909206
Another question: Would we be able to move the moment we understand it? I guess that we will need to build some kind of device first. Which means we wont catch them in a relevant timeframe anyway.
>>
It's quiet.
Sigma is sleeping, and Lucca is sitting down, knees pulled up to her chest, while her brother paces across the bridge.

Nobody talks.

Cyan is in the Sleipnir's computers, working on translating the Others' language. Azure is in there as well, designing... something for herself.
Magenta is in your head, preparing for combat.

Onyx is ticking. Doing.. something. He's trying to reverse engineer the teleporter on his own. . but fruitlessly.

<No.> you tell Onyx.
<What?>
<We do this *our* way. Reverse-engineer the teleporter.>
<The teleporter only has a range of->
<I'll do it, then.> You growl, and close your eyes. You focus.

You're drifting above a city, riding a massive dragon. Above you drifts a strange, unknown blackness, reaching down with long, sinous tentacles, tearing up parts of the city. The boogeymen, you suppose.

You don't care.
You scream down, toward a small pile of strange, alien glyphs, and you dive into it, as if it were a deep, deep pool.

Now, you hardly understand how power cores work, despite how much Amy explained it to you. Something about friction.
You don't understand power shields at all.
You don't understand plasma weaponry.

But this... you understand this. The stars align... and you understand it. You understand all of it. It's beautiful. English doesn't have the words to explain it.. but you can still make it with nano-meta.
You gasp, and sit up, a schematic dancing in your head.

"What is it?" Sigma asked, re-fastening his armor.
>>
>>19909270
>Forgot to mention; Fate Point used.
>>
>>19909270
Time for !!SCIENCE!!
>>
"I can do it.. I can make another warp drive with nano-meta. Get everyone ready, we're headed after those Aliums!"
>>
>>19909270
"I figured out a schematic for the impossibly complicated and alium teleportation system we used to get here that got stolen."
Said as Dave should be immediately getting to work on making a new teleporter.
"Chalk up another point for magic hacking bullshit. Get ready to fight, we are going to go be Big Damn Heroes."
>>
>>19909270
It all makes sense now, it all fits. Here, I'll tell you what to make. I'm getting my girlfriend back and for a thousand years these Aliums will be telling stories of the god of war who came and burned their ships until they were blackened husks in the void.
>>
"I can do it." You say. "I can make another warp drive with nano-meta. Chalk up another point for magic hacking bullshit. Get everyone ready. We're headed after those Aliums."
"Right." Lucca says. She takes up three large sniper rifles from a suitcase, tossing one to Sigma and one to Lucas. "We're ready."

"Now." You say, plugging your bullfrog into the systems. "I'm getting my girlfriend back, and for a thousand years, these aliums will be telling stories of the *god of war* who came and burned their ships until they were blackened husks in the void!"
You close your eyes, and quickly set the fabricator to work.

>-200 units of nanometa.

And then it's done. You walk down through the Sleipnir's halls, until you reach the storage chamber. The machine is large, with a small sphere suspended in a perfect, crystal vacuum, capacitors surrounding the device. Power builds up in the capacitors, and then the chips in the bottom store the destination... and then all of the power, at once, is focused into the floating sphere.
Into the large, complex chunk of exotic matter. Instantaneous teleportation.
As you work, you feel Azure finish his own design.. and use the fabricator as well.

>-50 units of nanometa.

<This will take some time to finish.> Azure says, as the fabrication parts start twisting and writhing, building something.
>>
>>19909392
"I hope you'll be cute enough to make Amy jealous.."
>>
fuck wormholes we we can teleport now. imagine the posabilities. but first we shall become the harbinger of war. our vengence is instant as is our coming. among the stars all shall hear of us n quake n terror at our coming. FOR WE ARE THE GOD OF WAR OUR BLOOD IS RED OUR HOME IS MARS OUR BIRTHPLACE EARTH ALL SHALL KNOW AND SHALL SHALL TREMBLE BEFORE US.
>>
>>19909421
>you feel Azure finish his
Guess s/he changed back at some point or Exatypo
>>
>>19909470
>Exatypo. Whoops!

"I hope you'll be cute enough to make Amy jealous." You say.
<... Not particularly.> Azure said. <I know what you find cute, and I have to admit.. I won't be anything like that.>

As you wait, and watch, the form that will soon be Azure starts to take shape.
It's humanoid.. but other than that, it's hard to tell exactly what it is. Tight, corded, synthetic muscle reaches throughout the entire body, and series of power shields burst from her back, six red lights sparking out.

And on her hands?
Claws. Long, monomolecular claws. She's making a goddamn drug-zombie in android form.

The head is perfectly featureless, without a face of any kind- just several sensors on the right side.

And then some of the sensors click on, and Azure tilts her head.
"I am alive." She says.
>>
Well, now that EDI - I mean Azure - is getting a body, we can get to saving the crew of the Norma- Sleipnir.

"I am the vanguard of your destruction."
>>
>>19909486
"Not exactly cute, but I kinda like it."
>>
>>19909486
We need to figure out how they put us to sleep in the firstplace, that and how come the AIs didn't take our body over.
>>
>>19909486
You're absolutely adorable, form following function and all that.

Now, you have told me that you care for Amy, we are going to show our love for her by rescuing her no matter how many Aliums have or die or laws of physics we have to break.
>>
>>19909486
>"I am alive."
Quick, a kiss to the cheek to welcome her.
>>
>>19909486
"So you've been studying my mind right? Why did you think I wouldn't find a perfect machine of war and death *cute*" Give her a smile.
>>
"Not exactly cute, but I kinda like it. Form following function and all that."
"I could give it synthetic skin, if you want." Azure said, rubbing her claws together, as sparks dance away. "But it would likely end up damaged, eventually, and it would take too much processing power to use facial expressions. This is a weapon, first and foremost."
"So, you've been studying my mind, right? Why did you think I wouldn't find a perfect machine of war and death *cute*?" You ask.
"I didn't build this body with any feminine features." She said. "You're not attracted to Grayson's rifle, or your own power armor. Ishelda has more in common with what you find cute than this weapon."

"Do you know how they put me to sleep?"
".. No, I don't." Azure said. "But whatever happened, you still had root control- and you blocked us from doing or seeing anything. You seemed to resist it, but not to the level Lucca and Lucas did."
>>
Once we're done with Azure - do we have a clue how they managed to knock us out that easily?
>>
>>19909575
Were there any sounds, directed energy power spikes or environmental effects that occured at the same time as them turning us off?

Also how the hell did they do it when my brain is in my spine?
>>
"Were there any sounds, directed energy power spikes, or environmental effects that occured at the same time as them turning us off? Also, how the hell did they do it when my brain is in my spine?"
"There was significant artifacting on every available wavelength." Azure said. "But the other AI in your bullfrog didn't notice that, so I suspect it's just my own glitching."

"Who are you talking t- oh god" Lucca said, walking into the room and then flinching away from Azure.
"I'm Azure." Azure says, tilting her head again. "I am a wildly unpredictable and sapient AI, inside an android body based on the same technology that power suits are based on. Hello."

Lucca just. . waved, eyes wide. "Hello."
>>
>>19909651
"Don't worry. It's just one of the voices in my head made corporeal."
>>
>>19909651
And people thought I was crazy for listening to the voices in my head, well here one of them is, in the synth-flesh.

Lucca, Azure is a really nice AI, calm down.
>>
"And people thought I was crazy listening to the voices in my head." You say. "Well, here one of them is, in the synth-flesh."
"Most if it is synthetic muscle." Azure said. "And the rest is power cores and monomolecular blades."
"I see." Lucca says.
"Lucca, Azure is a really nice AI, calm down." You say.
She closes her eyes, and takes a deep breath.
"Okay." Lucca says. "What do we do now?"
>>
>>19909730
We really need to find out why the twins managed to resist that well before we do anything. Otherwise we'll just get knocked out again.
>>
>>19909730
"We kick some alium ass!"
Oh and have we tested out the weaponry on the Sleipnir?
If we haven't we need to blow up a small asteroid or something. Oh and ask some of the alien guys if they want a field trip to "Other-space". Might be educational if somewhat dangerous.
>>
"We send the Asurians a message. They deserve to know what happened to their researcher."

Do we even know where to move? Those were the enemies we were told about right? Ask the Asurians if they know where their homeworld is. If not is there anyway to find out without visiting the other Aliens and asking them?
>>
"We kick some alium ass!" You say.
".. Yeah, but where did they go?" Lucca asked. "They just took everyone and left. They did leave that little grey guy, though. Valeq, I think his name was."
>>
>>19909861
"Thuuad and Valeq mentioned Others. Others between here, and Earth. We have a sizable archive of signals from that space to work with. It's simple; we find where the signals came from. And we follow them. We'll find the Others, whatever they are, and when we do, we'll use them to find the Glyphs. And when we find the Glyphs... They're going to wish they'd never been drawn."
>>
>>19909861
Is Valeq awake? Ask someone here if they know, where those guys live. Otherwise visit the nice aliens that are at war with them.
>>
"Thuuad and Valeq mentioned Others. Others between here and earth." You say. "We have a sizable archive of signals from that space to work with."
You stand. "It's simple. We find where the signals came from. And then we follow them. We'll find the Others, whatever they are, and when we do, we'll use them to find the... the glyphs. And when we find the glyphs, they're going to wish they'd never been drawn."

You stand, and walk toward the airlock. Azure and Lucca follow behind you, and you quickly go through decontamination procedures, as the green light bathes you. Then you step out, and toward the spire.

The inside is pandemonium. Aliums are yelling at you, roaring, their lower arms completely folded behind their backs, and their upper arms raised, fists toward you.
<<This is your fault!>>
<<You never should have come here!>>
<<You led them here!!>>

"Valeq." You say, reaching the top. "Are you awake?"
<<Y-yes.>> Valeq said. <<What happened?>>
>>
>>19909942

"The Other's enemies, the fucking Glyphs. Poof. They pop in out of nowhere, and break reality in ways that even my magical bullshit hacking can't. Just about everyone goes out like a light. <<The other's enemies visited.>> you say. <<They took people. I dislike them. I am planning on hunting them down and getting my friends back.>>

<<Give me everything you have on the Others so I can visit them and get more information on their enemies.>> You say.

He nods, folding his lower arms behind his back.. then he rushes over to one of the walls covered in cubby-holes, and started taking piles and piles of scrolls out, putting them into a large bin.

<<Everyone here dislikes you now.>> He said. <<We all slept, and many messages could have been lost. We believe it is your fault. What I am doing is very illegal to my people.>>

He put a top onto the bin, and screwed it shut, then pushed it toward you.

<<Take it, and leave.>> He said. <<This is everything we have on the Others. it is my duty to restore the archives, so I am only making more work for myself. But the Others call their enemies monsters, and the universe needs many less monsters.>>

>>
"I am sorry I brought them here, it was not my intention. I promise that one day, when it is safe to return, I will make reparations to your people.

Those things took my girl. Everyone else can sit the fuck down, or follow me on the warpath, I don't care which." You say.

He just stares up at you.

"It was a pleasure to meet you, Valeq, and I'm sorry that artifact led them here. I'm not going to let them get away with this." You say, and pick the bin up in your heavy drites, taking it back to the ship. Silently, Lucca and Azure follow.
<I can use that data on the scrolls to speed up translation.> Cyan said. <But we're still looking at several days before I can reliably translate the Others.>
>>

<I could speed it up if I had more computing power.> Cyan said.
"Did the ship's sensors keep recording data while we were out?"
<Yes, but we found nothing out of the ordinary.> Cyan said.
"How hard would it be to create something that says 'we are looking for your enemies and want to kick their teeth in'?"
<Just as difficult as an actual translation.> Cyan said. <After I get the basic infrastructure done, everything else will be very simple. When I can translate that much, I'll be able to translate all of it. The difficulty isn't the language, it's the method of communication.>

>>19910157

>>
"Is there anywhere nearby that you can drag more computing power from?"
<Other than a few simple microchips, no. Their computing technology is roughly analog to what we had in the 1960s, and that will not be near enough to make a difference.>
"Or should we port back home, plug this into Valhalla, and then go back?"
<That would work, I believe. It should triple my current speed, and that's not counting the science team's computers.> Cyan said.
>>
>>19910218
"Will Valhalla even be there? These things might have checked the other end of the wormhole, too, and invaded Earth for all we know."
>>
>>19910218
So we spent a fatepoint to speed things up and then return home anyways?
I'm sure the extremly advanced aliens are able to translate better then we are. We visited the first aliens without speaking a language we will be fine the second time.
>>
"Will Valhalla even be there?" You ask. "These things might have checked the other end of the wormhole, too, and invaded earth for all we know."
"No, Valhalla's still there, I think" Lucca said. "They weren't interested in our technology. They were interested in *theirs*. Otherwise they would have taken the whole ship."
>>
>>19910263
Well, let's give this teleport thing a test drive. Drop us near earth.
>>
"Well, let's give this teleport thing a test drive." You say. "Onyx, drop us near earth."
<Affirmative.> Onyx says.

You wait, patiently, for the capacitors to charge. The important part of the teleportation device, you know, is that it has to take in a lot of energy at one moment. So the capacitor's job is to charge up the energy and blast the exotic matter with it.

Thirty seconds, it's charged. . and then everything twists.

Lucca falls to the ground, her feet wobbling, and Azure ends up on all fours, bracing herself. You stay standing.

<We've arrived.> Onyx says.

You look out of Sleipnir's bridge, down at earth. Everything seems normal. Valhalla is still there, as is Daedalus, and you can now communicate with Talos again.
>>
>>19910376
Talos, give me a sitrep and then slave all processing power to Cyan. Every bit we have at home, and see if you can grab some from the cloud and the satellite network.
>>
"Talos, give me a sitrep and then slave all processing power to Cyan."
<Very little has happened since you left.> Talos said. <There is nothing different, sir. Situation is normal. Slaving processing power now.>
"Daedalus, can you grab some processing power from the cloud and satellite network?"
<I could, Lord, but one does not take to having power stolen from them well. It will be... illegal, as some say, and I could be found. But, lord, if you do not care, I can grant you as much power as you wish.>

Simple enough; Daedalus can steal processing power from every uplink he has- everyone who lives in Antarctica. The elite, the rich.. the ones with the powerful computers.
>>
>>19910461
"Just steal surplus processing power. As much as possible that it won't interrupt anything and be noticed. And don't call me 'Lord.' YOU'RE Lord Daedalus. I'm High Lord Grand Emperor Dave."

We said it before. We're on the warpath. Fuck everyone, we're getting Amy back.

This.
>>
"Do it." You say. "Everything they aren't using, but give it back if they need it."
<Understood. If detected, I will be considered a virus... but I will be subtle.> Daedalus said.
There was a pause.
<Infinite knowledge is now yours! Glorious omniscience!> Daedalus cried. <Take it, and be mighty! Hahahaha!>
<I estimate an hour until the Others' language is cracked.> Cyan said.
>>
>>19910569
I love you Daedalus, just don't go on a mad power trip, that's my job. Once we get it decoded don't stick around in their systems, it'd be rude.
>>
>>19910569
That's a whole hour we might have shaved 55 minutes off of if we decided to stick it to the man.

Still probably the safe option in the long run. Just not sure how much the long run will matter for the lost...
>>
>>19910569
When we're done, drop a simple text message that reads, "Sorry, needed to borrow your spare cycles to translate an alien language."
>>

"Daedalus, if you had a corporeal body, I'd hug you. Please, never stop being so ridiculously bombastic."
>>
>>19910569
We need to test the weapons on Sleipnir if we haven't already. I don't want to be caught in a fight with untested equipment. I vote for using the hour to blow up a couple asteroids in the asteroid belt. Combining equipment testing and venting frustrations.
>>
"Daedalus, if you had a corporeal body, I'd hug you."
<I do, I do have a body. I reside within the eye of the world- the satellite called VC-dash-zero-zero-one-dash-alpha.> Daedalus says.

"Now, I'd best test out the Sleipnir's weapons." You say.
At that, Magenta awakens.
<Sleipnir's status: Power shields, full. Power core at ten percent utilization. Coolant is full. Disintegration cannon is prepared, with a ten second wind-up. Broadside gauss weapons prepared with no delay and full 345 degree targeting arc.>
There was a pause.
<Who do we kill today?> She asked.
>>
>>19910710
"Just a practice run while we wait for Cyan to tell us where the sons of bitches who took Amy and the others are. Then we'll blow a hole in them once we get there."
>>
>>19910710
"Rocks. I'm afraid it's just target practice at the moment, Magenta."
>>
>>19910710
Later today all of the aliums who took Amy. For right now let's put you through your paces. Find some asteroids, then make sure no one ever will again.
>>
"Rocks." You say. "I'm afraid it's just target practice at the moment, Magenta."
<Understood.>

You slowly pilot the Sleipnir toward some debris, small chunks of rock slowly circling the planet- eventually their orbit would fall into the atmosphere and burn away, so nobody cares.

You target one with the gauss broadsides, and Magenta takes control of each individual turret, twisting the 345-degree turrets, and blasting it with dozens of thick, metal needles, the kinetic force pulverizing the meteor.
<Target destroyed.> Magenta says, and you start targetting more asteroids. <Target destroyed. Target destroyed. Target damag- destroyed.>

Then you see a rather large one.. and realized you haven't tested the disintegration cannon. You've never even seen it in action. Well... it seems rather fitting to use the tool Amy made to save her.

<Wind up begun. Shields slowly decreasing to seventy-five percent.> She says, and the entire ship starts shaking. You know, from Amy's explanation, that the barrel is spinning, getting up to a certain speed.
<Disintegration cannon prepared.> She said. <Shields stable at seventy-five percent.>

So you hit the switch.
Of course, you didn't need to actually hit it.. but otherwise, where's the dramatic timing?

A pure red beam of light tears through the asteroid, and the entire ship shakes, as you see the asteroid dissolve into little more than dust.

<I am in love.> Magenta said.
>>
>>19910803
I think if Magenta gained an obsession with science and cake, she'd be glados.
>>
>>19910803
"I was worried that we wouldn't have a weapon capable of taking those Glyph things out. I think those worries are put to rest. Magenta, do you think we can get Amy to miniaturize this thing when we get her back, and replace the gauss with tiny disintegrator beams?
>>
>>19910803
"That is a beauty of a thing."

Perhaps we should stock up on some more atomic goo before we go, as well.
>>
"That is a beauty of a thing. I was worried that we wouldn't have a weapon capable of taking those glyph things out. I think those worries are put to rest. Magenta, do you think we can get Amy to miniaturize this thing when we get her back, and replace the gauss with tiny disintegrator beams?"
<Not likely.> Magenta responded. <The power drain is significant, and there are several design issues- according to the notes I have, the barrel needs to be large enough, as the inside is implanted with hundreds of repulsion drives. The smaller it is, the less effect it has. However... the larger, the more exponentially destructive. I want a bigger one.>

You sit, and think. You will no doubt need more atomic goo, so you call up Gareth, and talk through several secretaries and assistants.

"Greetings. This is Gareth, the VP of Future Van Co." Gareth responded. "Future Van Co; For all your indiscriminate grey and black van needs."

>>
"Hey, it's Dave." You say. "I need to buy more gloop. I can't believe I thought a ton would be enough."
"Oh?" He asks.
"I already used up five hundred pounds of it." You say.

"Right." He says. "I'll deliver it to Valhalla within the hour."

>Current credits: 46,250

"Was there anything else?"
You're tempted to do a few things. Yell at him about his alien artifact (that you stole), or trade him the schematic of the teleporter for all the goop in the world, or... something. You're not sure.

"And I can replicate it." you say. "I have the schematics in front of me."
"And you want..."
"More nano-meta." You say. "As much as I can carry, and more. A 100% discount, to say the least."
He's silent, and you realize... you don't know where Ishelda is.

"Uh.. understood." He said.

Onyx calculates a few numbers, and you hear the teleporter charge. . .

And then you're standing in front of Gareth.

"Hi." You say.
". . .How about this." He says, getting his self-control back. "We only require two teleporters for the time being. One here, and one on Mars. I know all that, because they're the reason that I'm here, right now, with this offer, thanks to that Bullfrog they put in my spine. That much will get you a teleporter network between Earth and Mars."
>>
>>19911539
And what exactly are we going to do with all the goop ever?

There is nothing we need that much goop for.

Whatever the hell we want.
>>
>>19911608
Or we keep the tech and make infinite money with teleporter vacation deals, and buy all the goop. With the added benefit of never having to worry about a nuke being dropped on our face while we sleep.
>>
>>19911590
>There is nothing we need that much goop for.
We're about to go butt heads with a hyperadvanced alien civilization. We do, in fact, need all of that goop to build a ship big and well-armed enough to slap their shit, or at least run a gauntlet to get to wherever the Others are and where they're holding our friends. Sleipnir as it is will not cut it. So, no, the 'superfluous ship' is not so superfluous.
>>
>>19911648
Physical size means nothing in space combat. Especially with non-physical weapons, such as the disintegrator cannon, or their magic bullshit brain hack.
>>

50% of the money you make with the tech, in money or goop.
>>
"No." You say. "Ten percent of all of the profit you get from mars."
"Sorry, but I won't be able to accept that." He said. "It's much too much for us."
"At least seventy-five percent off, and access to your factories."
He stopped, and put his hand to his chin.
"Yes." He said. "Five tons of nano-meta, a 75% discount, and access to your factories for two teleporters- one here, and one on mars. Do we have a deal?"

You consider calling off the deal- he is an unknown factor, other than sending you on the mars mission, and you certainly don't want to eat any nukes... and you could always just.. take nano-meta if you really wanted.

Which we can presumably fight by augmenting our own magical bullshit brain hack capabilities with a supercomputer of suitable size. Or by turning them to vapor with disintegrator cannons. Of course, we'll have to figure out some form of anti-wormhole technique before we can fight them in any mundane manner, otherwise they'll just teleport past our guns.

>Also, just so you know, he's said you can put whatever safeguards you wish on it, as long as it goes from the 'earth teleporter' to the 'mars teleporter' and vice versa.
>>
>>19911814

I'm talking about the aliens. Teleporters are their technology, and I'm sure they are exceedingly good at weaponizing it.

For that matter they could just teleport half of our ship away, then separate the rest of it into thousands of tiny pieces, scattered across the galaxy.

>>
>>19911846
>A backdoor for Daedalus
No backdoors. Backdoors can be used by other people as well. We're probably going to have to put a copy of Onyx in the teleporters anyway to keep them connected over the constantly shifting distance between the planets. He can deal tell us if they try shit.
>>
>>19911924

>>
>>19911903

>>19911923
Make it on our faricator at their expense.
>>
>>19911958

>>
"I'll require five hundred units." You say. "But I won't need the factory."

"Understood." He said, nodding.

<Onyx, beam me up.> You say.
<... It doesn't work like that.> Onyx says. <I can teleport you *from* near the teleporter, to somewhere else, but I can't bring you from somewhere else.>
<.. Teleport a raven to me.> You say, and leap out the window.

The raven appears just below you, and with awesome-action-movie-like skills, you climb in, activate it, and fly back up to the Sleipnir.

Now. For safeguards. First, you need a thick casing over the actual mechanics- they don't need to know how it works.. Second, a tamper-proof, explosive shell outside of that, strong enough to destroy the actual mechanics. Third, fork onyx and make certain that he'll only obey you, and make sure that the teleporter's targets remain locked on one another. No info ports to the AI himself- they don't need to speak with him.

>Any further safeguards?

And then again. We can always just use the ship itself as the projectile. Get a giant, bladed prow, wreath it in a disintegration field, and ram through everything at LUDICROUS SPEED, repurposing our gauss weapons for point defense and little else.

Wouldn't have guessed that...

I'm not seeing 10 tons. I'm seeing 5.8 tons, be it metric or imperial.
>>
>>19912776
An short ton is 2000 lb, and each unit is two lb. So a thousand units is a single ton.

>>19912773
You could- But repulsion drives\power shields has a minimum size, so they can't be built into the bullets themselves. And putting them into the barrel to propel the bullet wouldn't be much more efficient than a gauss weapon, and it would take more energy.

Hey, just caught up to the thread. Just out of curiosity, why didn't we use our fate point to stay awake?

That's what I'm saying.

Because nobody suggested it.
When it comes to fate points, I usually make a post like 'FATE POINT VOTE INITIATED' whenever anybody even mentions the 'fate point' for whatever reason.

You.
You are my favorite person of all time right now.

Wait, you're right. I can't into math right now.

That is one fine hat.

The metric mention was based on my comment on twitter about making a unit of goop one kilo, as well.

So, death field wedge-prow with secondary death ray it is. How hard would it be for us to make a massive power field based on a combination of power shield and disintegration technology?

But then, thinking harder about it, the disintegration cannon's generator needs to spin up to power itself. So it'd be awkward and unfeasible to try and make a static field around a simple ram when the field has to either keep spinning, or be focused and unleashed in a specific direction. Since it has to spin to hold the field, and since we still need a ramming point...

What if we used a drill?
>>
>>19912870
First thing we do when we get back to SORQ is make a Mr Tea elemental.
>>
>>19912945
It would work, especially if the drill is monomolecular, but the disintegration cannon itself would disintegrate the tip of the drill every time it fired.

>>19913095
Which is, of course, why the tip can split open- or the whole drill can come apart in two halves- when the cannon is desired instead of the disintegration drill-ram. That, or there's a nanometa repair system to reform the tip if neither above system is mechanically viable in your eyes.

or perhaps a cheaper alternative material for the tip, that way when they can be produced by some cheaper means

>>19913095
so what, wouldn't it be worth it for a drill THAT CAN PIERCE THE HEAVENS...I mean wouldn't it?
>>
>>19913166
Fuck yes.
I'll get to work making it in my modelling program of choice immediately.
>>
>>19913486
Fuck I can't even get the basic drill. I suck at this.

Drills are hard, unles you are using a template piece. See if you can pinch a reference off the interwebs.

I assume by 'modelling program' you dont mean mspaint. try /3dcg/ they might be able to help.

>>19913987
I would, but I've been fussing with it too much, so I'm just done for now.

if you used SolidWorks the command you want is the "spline tool"

Actually, I use Wings 3D. It's esoteric as fuck, but I'm fond of it.
