There's going to be a Nasuverse RPG hosted over Skype and roll20.coms maptool. Its going to be a traditional grail war with 7 masters and 7 servants for 14 players total. For contact info add kaizerbunz or God Emperor Of Mankind (the one from miami) to skype

Saber [Canute the Great]

"In this great expedition there was present no slave, no man freed from slavery, no low-born man, no man weakened by age; for all were noble, all strong with the might of mature age, all sufficiently fit for any type of fighting, all of such great fleetness, that they scorned the speed of horsemen."

Parameters:
Str: A
End: B
Agi: A+
Mana: C
Luck: B

Alignment: Chaotic Good
Wish: Paradise on Earth

Skills:

Magic Resistance: C

Charisma: A - As a king, Canute was well-loved by his people, boasted an incredible ability to muster armies, and famously was quoted by his skalds to "protect the land as does the Guardian of Byzantium Heaven", his reign on Earth considered the equal of God's reign in heaven.

Military Tactics: B

Noble Phantasms:

A King of Waves - How Hollow Is The Power of Man [Rank A+]
Once Canute sat his throne upon the shore and ordered the waves to stop. The tide continued on, soaking him as he sat despite his orders. A seal emblazoned with a crown hung from a golden cross, it represents the hollowness of Earthly power. Presented with this symbol, all those who claim kingly right have their strength revoked, reducing the rank of all abilities they bear to no more than their rank of Divinity. Sainthood can protect against this effect, but no longer provides its original effect.

Mankind berserker is hilarious. Just imagine him chittering away nonsensically to his sock puppet, the sock puppet chittering back, then mankind giggling and giggling before choking someone to death with his sock.

Fucking terrifying

Berserker - [His Grace, Sir Samuel Vimes, Duke of Ankh, Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch]

Strength: B+
Endurance: B+
Agility: B+
Mana: D
Luck: A

Abilities:

Cardboard Soles [Rank D] - Vimes has walked the streets of Ankh Morpork for countless hours. This transfers to whatever location he is summoned to. As long as he is within the boundaries of a city, he knows exactly where he is and what major events are happening in his vicinity.

Eye of the Mind (True) [Rank B] - Heightened insight that was refined through experience. Capable of calm analysis of battle conditions even when in danger and deduce an appropriate course of action after considering all possibilities to escape from a predicament. So long there is even a 1% chance of a comeback, this ability greatly improves the chances of winning.

Mad Enhancement [Rank B] - Rank up for all parameters, but takes away most of sanity.
>>
File: 1342247297903.jpg-(16 KB, 300x360, Samuel_Vimes.jpg)
16 KB
>>19871707
Noble Phantasms:

Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes, The Guarding Dark [Rank A] - Vimes' unwavering devotion to the Law prevents any mind effecting effects below this skill's rank from affecting him. It even allows him to keep Mad Enhancement in check to some degree.

The Summoning Dark [Rank A] - Vimes was once possessed by a pan-dimensional spirit of vengeance from Dwarf mythology. He managed to defeat it through sheer force of will, and now they share a strange kind of mutual respect for one another. It has left its mark on him, however, in the form of a scar on his forearm shaped like an eyeball with a tail. This grants him several abilities. The first of which being perfect night vision. Even in pitch blackness, Vimes can still see perfectly. He is also seems to be able to communicate with the Summoning Dark, the condition being he needs to surround himself in darkness. With this skill he is able to acquire a witness account from the Summoning Dark, as the Dark represents all darkness.

Not sure how to do 'That Is Not My Cow'. I'm thinking something with raising his parameters even further when he truly DOES lose controle, but I'm not sure how to word that.
Also maybe give him low-level Presence Concealment and turn his Badge or his Truncheon into NPs, but I can't really think of anything right now.

You know, the more I look at Vinland Saga Canute, the more I think he might be Lawful Evil.

His goal is Paradise on Earth, but only as a way to spit in God's face for reserving Heaven for the dead. It's heavily implied he's arranged for the death of both his father AND brother in order to solidify his power, and that his generosity to the Church is merely a method of solidifying his power - and yet he's terrifyingly, powerfully charismatic throughout the series.

I really hope the whole "books and games servants" thing doesn't backfire in the next HGW Seattle story. I've seen it a hundred times, when you have other things as Servants, they don't end up being Servants, they end up being... themselves.

They already have superpowers of various kinds. The thing that usually makes Servants fun is we're basically imagining historical heroes as that special westaboo mix between Anime heroes and Superheroes. When you're doing that with people who are already superheroes, you tend to lose the forest for the trees. How do you reinterpret the weapons and events of Master Chief's life as Noble Phantasms without just having him be Master Chief? Same with Captain America, or Guts from Berserk, or the Power Rangers. There's no "magic," for lack of a better term.

Not to mention that a huge number of modern heroes are so inseparably attached to their image. How do you disguise the fact that you're Superman, or Mario, or Hulk Hogan, or Goku?

I dunno, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm concerned.
>>
>>19872027
Yeah, I have to admit, it's not something I usually consider. I've been thinking about how I'd run a Fate thing myself. Nice thing about Canute at least is that he's historical as well. Plus, he's probably the least powerful Saber ever written, which would lead to some fun times for his unfortunate Master.
>>
What modern people would you guys consider to be Heroic Spirits?

How would you make them feel larger than life?
>>
>>19872164
Sadly there arent really any that qualify in modern day. That's what made F/SN so special, you got to witness the birth of what was potentially the last hero of man.

In nasuverse this is explained somewhat by "humanity" being a limited resource on earth, the more people you have the less there is to go around, and with less humanity you don't get people who are "larger than life" anymore. Not to mention that humanity has lost a lot of it's heritage (3 of 5 great magic styles are lost, possibly forever).

Gilgamesh's great plan after his corruption was to wipe out 90% of humanity which would force these epic heroes to start popping up again, and likely give humanity their heritage and 'destiny' back. It would also probably calm gaia the fuck down.
>>
>>19872164

The Red Baron is THE quintessential example of the Modern Servant. He's an almost universally recognized figure whose legend has so drastically outrun the reality that he almost seems supernatural despite the fact that he's been dead barely longer as he was alive.

Other common citations are George Washington, Nikolai Tesla, the Zodiac Killer, H.P. Lovecraft, and Harry Houdini.

Basically, it has to be a figure who managed to capture imagination more than he captured history, to the point where the common perception is that they were something more than human.

A lot of people go for that famous Russian Sniper, Simo Hayha, but I just don't know if he meets that requirement. Maybe he does in Russia, I don't know, but not so much the world at large. Horatio Nelson, Mohammad Ali, and Hitler probably suffer the same problem.

Its a hard to define line, but I feel its there.
>>
>>19872164
Chesty Puller. The marines still say "Good night, Chesty Puller, wherever you are!" to end their day. He lived for war, he wanted to stick a bayonet on a flamethrower, when a grenade landed in from of his squad he said it was a dud, and it was.

This quote, which he supposedly said, exemplifies him.

"We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them."
>>
>>19872352
While those are "decent" examples the problem is that it's very unlikely they'll last the test of time to become something truly 'legendary'. And in some cases you've just got entertainers, not people like Moses or Joshua who fought tooth and nail for what was important to them.

And as nasu said if you were using guns, it's the gun doing the work, not you, the red baron *may* have a case as a rider though.
>>
>>19872352

Simo Haya is Finnish. he KILLED Russians during the Winter War.
>>
>>19872443
And with the red baron it may once again be more of a case of the equipment rather than the person. A truly heroic "rider" is heroic beyond just his equipment, like medusa / perseus, Lu bu, iskander, keiji maeda etc. They had a mount tied to their myth, but it wasn't *wholly* their myth.

>>
>>19872531

My bad, I'm a dumb American who cannot into Europe.

>>19872537

I think there's a pretty fundamental flaw in that logic, and frankly in the "no gun heroes," logic that Nasu usually applies.

"Modern," heroes capture the imagination because we see them with the lens of the past. Yes, we know logically that any fucking schmuck can pick up a gun and kill someone with it. But the mythology that has built up around the Sniper as an archetype is no different from the mythology of the Byronic hero. He has certain fundamental characteristics, and we see his feats as superhuman. Yes, technology helps him, but a Sniper Rifle is such a foreign thing to most people that it might as well be a Magic Sword in their mind's eye. And if there's one thing that literally any movie or show on the subject will tell you, its that people imagine that a Sniper is more than his rifle. There's something special about his nerves, his eyes, his attitude, that makes him more than just a schmuck with good aim. When I saw "Shooter," in theaters, the room ERUPTED with cheers when the guy killed three guys from a moving rowboat at over 300 yards with a .22 calibur rifle. It was something he could do because he was a Sniper. No normal gunman could.

The Red Baron is the exact same thing. People don't see great fighter pilots or great tank men as being great because of their machine. The Red Baron is a modern Knight to most people, the Ace of Aces. The Plane did not make the man, the man made the plane!

Thats why modern heroes can and should be possible. The key is not going overboard. Hitler is never going to be servant tier, his myth will never outgrow his fact. But there a plenty of people who could.

This should be saved for posterity and plastered at the beginning of every Grail War thread. Well put.

As for people like you said, who's legends outgrow them, the only one I can think of is Sir Edmund Hillary. The first man to summit Everest, a amazing mountain climber, and a damn classy man at that.

I have no idea what class he'd be, though.
>>
>>19872966
Aside from Rider, which doesn't really work, the only non-WArrior class is Caster, and that doesn't fit either. Too bad, since "Because it was there" would be a great name for a Noble Phantasm. Maybe a Damage wipe move? Allows the user to perservere over any injury?

That's pretty much my thoughts on the matter, but you articulated them better than I could. Except:

I dunno. With all the Nazi conspiracies in pop culture and the whole "Jeptack Hitler/Ghostapo" thing, I can definitely see Hitler having a myth. The myth of the genocidal dictator who holds his people in thrall via fear and blood.

Still need suggestions for Archer, Berserker, Assassin, and Rider.

Preference will be given to non-Arthurian, Celtic, or Greek heroes, or lesser known mythologies within those pantheons, because they've been represented plenty.

Xuanzang as the Most Useless Caster Ever could be hilarious though.

>>19873975
Seen these two suggested a lot. Genghis would make a great Rider, to be sure, and I wouldn't play him as Chaotic Evil - if you look, he was a strong statesman as well as a conqueror and actually fairly egalitarian, he was just also UTTERLY RUTHLESS. Could be a fun personality to mix up with Harun [Lawful Good Righteous King], Canute [Shady but with ultimately humanistic motives - Chaotic Good the same way Gilgamesh is Chaotic Good], and Finn [Chaotic Good Selfish Adventurer type who never really grew into his authority]

Actually, that's something that would be good to consider... personality types, because loud arguments about ideals in the middle of explosive battles are fundamental to the Nasu experience.

Yeah, but I don't wanna TOTALLY overdo it. I suppose a Guan Yu Rider or Xiahou Yuan Archer could be pretty boss. My namesake only really works as Caster and I've got Harun for that. Lu Bu's already been Berserker, and I'd like to avoid repeat Servants [since it's my understanding that Servants sacrificed to the Grail can't be re-summoned]

Plenty of Lancers with all the spears and halberds around, and quite a few renowned for their horsemanship which would let me make them Riders. No real assassins in the lot, and only a couple make sense as Berserkers.
>>
>>19873925
Fenrir as Berserker.
>>
>>19874183
No Divine Beings.

And I've already got Canute representing the Norse. He was a Viking king after all.

I've considered Hannibal Barca as Rider, but can't really come up with any Noble Phantasms for him... though as he stands, Canute is a pretty bare-bones Saber as well.
>>
>>19874183
Fenrir is a divine beast.

Gods and other divinities aren't allowed. Trying summon Fenrir would go about as wrong as trying to summon Lucifer did (i.e. it produced a weak Servant and fucked up the Grail).
>>
>>19874199
Fenrir is less divine than Gilgamesh if I remember correctly. Child of Loki and a giantess I believe?
>>
>>19874207
Yeah, but he's a divine beast. Gilgamesh is a demigod, he's still part human, he gets away with it. Fenrir is in no way human, being entirely Divine in nature. Jesus and Siddhartha WERE human, but have been Deified to the extent that they are now considered Divine Beings.
>>
I for one, would stay away from beings that can kill gods.
>>
>>19874214
Rin mentions that automatons and animals can be summoned as heroic spirits. Can you think of any non-divine beasts that could qualify?
>>
I might well run Phaeton as Rider, if only because he has the most overpowered mount ever [It's the fucking Sun, bitches!] but probably the lowest Riding skill of all time [since his legend is all about him being such a shitty pilot he accidentally set Africa on fire and had to be vaporized by Zeus to save the planet]

Just some unfortunate probably-mortal shmuck who got screwed because Apollo was worried he MIGHT have banged the kid's mom.

When Nobunaga activates his Noble Phantasm, thousand rifles appear behind the leader. The Guns are deformed, dark, on fire, as if they're possesed by demons. Nobunaga will then order constant volley fire, constantly bombarding the opponent with the cursed bullets.

Noble Phantasms -
Dairokuten Maou - The Demon King of the Sixth Heaven [Rank A]: Nobunaga Oda's fearful reputation was well earned. He took on many sins to achieve his goal of unifying the land. With this Noble Phantasm, those sins are personified, solidifying his legend as the Demon King. Setting himself opposite to Heaven, this Noble Phantasm negates all Divinity.

Tanegashima - The Whirlwind From the West [Rank B]
The musket which revolutionized Japanese warfare at the hands of Nobunaga Oda. In Nobunaga's hands, it will never run out of ammunition. Its bullets are powerful enough to prove lethal even to a Servant. However, while he may fire an infinite number of times, each time is considered an independent manifestation of this Noble Phantasm, giving it a high prana cost.

The Blade Upon the Bowed Neck [Rank B] -
A tactic used with great success by Nobunaga Oda, he organized his musket-men in succeeding ranks which would alternately bow and reload while the other rank fired. Nobunaga has a supernatural understanding of the rhythm of his opponent's attacks and can execute actions instantly against an unready opponent, allowing him to fire Tanegashima at the most opportune moment.

Steve Irwin seems way too nice to be involved in a magus war, and I say that as a guy who got into Biology partially from watching all his stuff growing up.

I don't think being nice is a factor in the HGW. I think Steve Irwin would be a nice addition, assuming he gets rid of his habit of commentating everything he does. I initially thought Assassin for Steve Irwin, because of the times he hides himself in the wilds waiting for his target, and I also thought Lancer, just out of irony. Rider seems fitting for a man who wrestled crocodiles into submission.

Rider [Phaethon]

"Here Phaëthon lies who in the sun-gods chariot fared. And though greatly he failed, more greatly he dared."

Parameters:
Strength: D
Endurance: C
Agility: B
Mana: C
Luck: E

Alignment: Neutral
Wish: To repair the damage he caused as a mortal

Skills:
Riding: A

Dinvinity: C - Though a son of Helios, it brought Phaethos nothing but misfortune, and he often doubted his own divinity.

Prana Burst [Flames] [Rank EX] - Phaethon's own flesh still burns with the light of the sun, and so any weapon he draws against another will burn with that same heat. Immensely powerful, weapons which are not Noble Phantasms will be destroyed within minutes in his hands.

Noble Phantasms:

Sol Invictus - Chariot of the Sun [Rank A+]: The Noble Phantasm that brought about Phaethon's doom. Burning with the light and heat of the very sun itself, Phaethon draws the sun from the sky. The flames it creates are so hot they reduce things to ash in moments and even boil the seas, and would kill the rider unless he had some protection from fire - for this reason, Phaethon primarily rides the Sol Invictus far from the Earth, where it can do the least harm. However, the beasts which pull it are Divine Beasts of the greatest caliber, four great steeds who resist the hand of any but Helios himself, and so Phaethon risks losing control of this Noble Phantasm whenever he uses it. His last such failure scorched Africa.

Anointment of Hyperion - Grasp the Sun In Your Hands [Rank A]: A mystic oil granted by his father, Helios, to allow him to handle the chariot. This sacred oil protects mortals from all flame and heat, allowing one to grasp the sun itself. No form of flame can harm Phaethon while this Noble Phantasm is active, not even flames produced by Noble Phantasms of greater rank.

After completing the incantation from seemingly nowhere the cavalry appears, just waiting for the final command of their leader. Inumerous soldiers & their horses will then charge into the direction of the enemy.
The Charge is extremely hard to be stopped and each one of those soldiers is an extremly competent rider each one of them has the ability Riding on the B level, and will surpass the most varied obstacles and perform insane stunts being able to ride into vertical walls, across the water and jump ridiculously heights to reach the enemy

Girlfriend: ... I said I was sorry, didn't I?

Magus: Ugh... Nevermind, just stay there while I summon the Servant. *Begins the ritual*

>>
>>19874157
My understanding is that Servants summoned by the Grail are just 'copies' of the original soul. The original never leaves the Throne, but the copy is then put into the fitting 'Servant template', and summoned for the War. It should be possible to get a Servant twice, even disregarding the loophole Arturia used (Counter Force shenanigans). The new copy simply wouldn't have the memories of the previous copy (again, Arturia is sidestepping the issue by not using a copy - Alaya is just moving her soul from her deathbed to the Wars as opportunities open).

>>19875119
As far as I know, the Grail 'preserves' the souls of those who ascend to Heroic Spirits, so they aren't really doing anything up/out (dammit, how are you supposed to know which direction to use when referring to somewhere like the Throne?) there.

Anyways, working on coming up with Noble Phantasms for Enkidu. The unofficial-yet-recognized Fate/Strange Fake gave us an appearance, a class, and some skills, but no Noble Phantasms.

Vimes's greatest dedication is his family, above all things. When summoned, his only wish is to return home. When something stands in his way and truly cannot be defeated through other means, Vimes's Mad Enhancement skill gains two ranks as he attempts to tell his son his bedtime story across dimensions through sheer volume. This is also a D-rank sonic attack, and a C-rank intimidation effect.

On that note...

Servant: Lancer
Spirit: Enkidu
Alignment: Neutral

Strength: A+
Endurance: B
Agility: A
Mana: D
Luck: E

Noble Phantasm: A

Class Skill:
Magic Resistance: C (Can cancel spells with a chant below two verses. Cannot defend against High Thaumaturgy or Greater Rituals.)

Personal Skills:
Animal Dialogue: B- (Enkidu can understand animals of all sorts, and communicate with them in turn. While this does not grant improved reasoning skills to the animals in question, Enkidu understands how to convey deeper meanings even to the simple minds of wild beasts. This skill suffers a penalty due to many wild animals not being comfortable communicating with Enkidu since being civilized by Shamhat.)

Presence Detection: A++ (Enkidu can detect the presence of almost anything within a range greater than ten kilometres. This allows him to recognize the location of things such as the flow of water, the movements of distant animals, and the presence of Servants over a range that is unequalled among other Servants.)

Shapeshifting: D- (Enkidu's current form is one he took in partial imitation of Shamhat after being civilized by her. As such, Enkidu can still alter his form to imitate others. This skill suffers a penalty for being disliked by Enkidu, and due to the resulting form tending to lack the flaws of the target form's appearance, giving Enkidu an appearance akin to a living puppet.

Noble Phantasms:
Fist - That Which Falls Like a Meteorite (Rank A Anti-Unit): Enkidu's strength is already beyond comprehension, and this Noble Phantasm is the embodiment of this. When Enkidu throws a punch with sufficient force, his fist moves with such speed and force that it lights ablaze, like a meteor falling to earth. With this, his fist 'burns' just as much as it 'strikes'. Furthermore, the sudden displacement of air creates a shockwave of heated, compressed air that strikes those surrounding his fist, even if Enkidu should miss his target with the punch itself. With a sufficiently forceful punch, the shockwave may move swiftly enough to produce sonic booms.

Shamhat - Bringer of Civility (Rank B+ Support): Enkidu was civilized by the harlot Shamhat, and the lessons he received have shaped him, both figuratively and literally. By taking cues from his memory of Shamhat, Enkidu can tame others, overcoming mental interference that others are suffering from. Enkidu takes the subject in his arms and begins to replicate Shamhat's civilizing lessons, gradually casting aside any mental interference conditions they may suffer from. This helps one overcome the effects of hypnotism, mind-affecting curses, and even certain Servant skills such as Mental Interference, Headache Sufferer, or Mad Enhancement. The more intimate the contact Enkidu has with his subject, the more effective Shamhat's effect becomes, to the point where Shamhat's Rank increases by one if Enkidu makes use of it during sexual intercourse. Enkidu is somewhat uncomfortable with using Shamhat, as he recalls that upon being civilized, many animals distanced themselves from him.

Gugalanna - Stampeding Bull of Heaven (Rank B Anti-Army): When the goddess of love and war, Inanna, was spurned by Gilgamesh, she sought punishment by unleashing the god Gugalanna upon him. Enkidu and Gilgamesh, however, succeeded in stopping and killing the divine bull, and Enkidu took the god's flanks as trophies of the victory. Enkidu can merge his legs with those of Gugalanna's remains, making his every step strike with the force to shake the earth. With Gugalanna active, Enkidu's already impressive Agility receives a bonus, and he can deliver forceful blows simply by running over his foe, grinding them into the earth with the force of earthquakes. As each step rocks and rends the earth, all around must struggle to maintain footing as Enkidu tears the battlefield apart more and more with every step he takes. So long as Enkidu uses Gugalanna, he is treated as if he had the Divinity skill at Rank B-.

Okay, hope this looks good.

Archer: Huo Yi, Chinese.
Originally a god, he was turned mortal later on, performing various heroics in attempts to reclaim immortality - which he did not, however, achieve. He died a despairing mortal, eventually bludgeoned to death by a student.

Noble Phantasms:
Bow of the God of Archery: The one remaining keepsake from his time as a diety, arrows launched from it can slay all things, ignoring presence or lack of divinity and various protections of the target.

Ninth Sun Bird: Firing an arrow at the sun, Huo Yi terrifies it into hiding. He has no chance of striking and killing it as a mortal, even a heroic spirit, but the sun is quite terrified - after all, arrows from the same bow slew its eight siblings - and withholds its light. The field of battle is plunged into darkness.

>Name: Captain Ahab, the Hunter of the White Whale

>Strength: C
>Endurance: C
>Agility: B
>Mana: C
>Luck: E

>Noble Phantasms:
>From Hell's Heart I Stab At Thee: The Final Strike of the Monomaniac Hunter (B+)
>Ahab throws a harpoon at his enemy, which binds him and his foe with a chain of Prana that lasts for five rounds. The enemy cannot move to any spot beyond the length of chain, but can be pulled toward Ahab. If Ahab is ever slain, he will automatically deploy this Phantasm at the one who killed him, immobilizing the target and tying him to the spot where Ahab's body fell.

>Abilities:
>Scourge of the Leviathan: Attacks against monstrous creatures or servants with monstrous attributes (Dragon, Whale, etc) are increased by one rank above base value.
> Mental Pollution: C. Ahab is so consumed by the need for vengeance that nothing can shake him from his path.
>With my Last Breath: After suffering a crippling or mortal wound, Ahab can act without impairment for one round and his attack strength is increased by one rank over its base to a maximum of A+.

Okay, here's my Orpheus sheet.

Servant: Caster/Rider/Berserker
Spirit: Orpheus
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (Chaotic Mad as Berserker)

Strength: D
Endurance: D
Agility: C (B as Rider)
Mana: C (A as Caster)
Luck: C

Noble Phantasm: A

Class Skills:
*Berserker*
Mad Enhancement: D (Provides a Rank-up bonus to all parameters except Luck and Mana, but strips most of one's rationality. At this rank, Orpheus can communicate, but )

*Caster*
Item Construction: D (Can create some simple magical items. As he lacked this skill in life, his aptitude in this skill is unbecoming of a Caster)
Territory Creation: B (Sufficient to create a Workshop.)

*Rider*
Magic Resistance: D (Sufficient to cancel Single-Action spells.)
Riding: A+ (Can ride any creature or vehicle, excluding those of the Dragon Kind.)

Personal Skills:
Divinity: B (Orpheus is the son of Apollo, but due to his hatred for most of the gods, his Divinity rank is lowered.)

Ear for Art: B (If Orpheus hears a song or poem, he may make a Luck check. On a success, he can identify the song and the history of it. Under proper circumstances, this may allow him to acquire knowledge of other Servants, if the song or poem has a strong association with them. This skill is unusable under Mad Enhancement.)

High-Speed Divine Words: B (Orpheus can perform any magecraft short of High-Thaumaturgy at the speed of a Single-Action spell.)

Protection from Arrows: B (So long as Orpheus is singing or playing music, projectiles will fail to strike Orpheus. This functions as a combination of the sound waves disrupting the flight of the projectiles, and a subtle hypnosis that causes those who listen to aim slightly off from their mark with ranged weaponry/spells.)
*Continued*
>>
>>19876006
Seems like quite a few white maguses are racist against magi in the weirdest fucking way. I guess it has to do with it being 'backwater' for magi.
>>
>>19876158
Noble Phantasms:
Countersong - Opposing the Siren Song (Rank B Support): Orpheus knows music more than anything else, and knows how other sounds can disrupt it. By playing a song, or by singing, Orpheus can counteract any magecraft or Noble Phantasms which conveys its effects through sound. This functions against anything of lower or equal rank. Against an effect of a higher rank, Countersong weakens the opposing power's effectiveness.

Lyre of Apollo - Strings of Sunlight Rays (Rank B+ Anti-Army): While Orpheus' musical skill is already supernatural, this lyre further enhances the music performed. By playing upon the Lyre, Orpheus can conjure the spirits of his fellow Argonauts to assist him, both in and out of battle. Summoned Argonauts draw from Orpheus' prana supply so long as he plays, and are dismissed as soon as he stops. Lyre of Apollo receives a bonus if used in this manner in conjuction with The Argo. This Noble Phantasm is unusable under Mad Enhancement.
*Continued*
>>
>>19876173

The Argo - Blessed Swift Star (Rank B Support): Only usable as a Rider. As an Argonaut, Orpheus has a close tie to their ship, and can conjure it forth as necessary. While present, the Argo serves as a Workshop for both Orpheus and his Master. If used in conjunction with Lyre of Apollo, enough conjured spirits can be called to man the ship, making it a mobile base. While on the Argo, the prana cost of Orpheus and of any conjured Argonauts is heavily reduced.
*Continued* - I have to break up the Noble Phantasms a lot, I find...
>>
>>19876166
pretty much

The Edelfelt-Tohsaka thing is. . . much much more personal though

The 3rd Grail War was a hell of a ride
>>
>>19876179

The Maenads - Orgy of the Raving Ones (Rank A Anti-Army): Only usable as a Berserker. When Orpheus enters battle, the Maenads will be summoned around him. In an ecstatic frenzy, they will run about wildly and grab onto anyone they find, whether to compel them to join them in sexual union, or to tear their flesh apart and consume it. The Maenads have a base Strength of B, and are even more insane than Orpheus himself, bearing a Mad Enhancement of Rank B (improving all stats by one rank, at the cost of almost all sanity). Due to their total lack of control, the Maenads will potentially strike at anyone, even Orpheus or his Master, making their presence a double-edged sword. Orpheus has no control over the Maenads, but they will vanish once he and they no longer sense any threatening presences. No fire will burn the Maenads, no mundane steel can break their flesh, and wild beasts will either act tame in their presence, or be torn apart if perceived as threatening.

"There shall step forth a star out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite through the corners of Moab." - Numbers 24:17

Rider/Neutral Good/Shimon Bar Kokhba

Born Shimon ben Kosiba, this Jewish revolutionary of the Third Jewish Revolt was given the name Bar Kokhba (aramaic for "Son of a Star") by the Jewish sage, Rabbi Akiva. For three years he ruled a rebel state of Israel as Nasi ("Ruler") in defiance of the Roman Empire. Believed by many to be the long awaited Messiah, this was "The Era of the Redemption of Israel", and many hoped for the reconstruction of the Temple of Jerusalem and the fulfillment of the centuries of prophecy that went along with it. The rebellion was ultimately crushed and Bar Kokhba declared a false Messiah, but his tale has lived on. Perhaps the most enduring legend about him is that when the Romans threw him to the lions in the gladiatorial arena as his execution, he escaped by riding on the back of one of the lions, which by chance he had befriended in the mountains of Judea years before.

I figure besides the lion he might have the first of the coins of minted during his kingdom's brief reign as another Noble Phantasm, also allowing him to be irratingly mistaken for Judas. As a leader of men he would also probably have the Charisma personal ability, given that people were convinced he was the Messiah at the time. He also seems to have been a hell of a strategist.
>>
So, someone mentioned the Nemean Lion as a possible beastly Servant. That’s interesting.

Well, you'd probably want to run him as the offspring of Typhon and a lion that he's generally referred to as, so him having a human form is viable. The Titans, after all, were human-shaped.

To address my own concerns about modern Fictional Servants, I thought I would try to stat one myself, making sure to keep the focus on the LEGEND rather than the actual POWERS.

John 117 - Archer
Str - B; Agi - C; End - A; Mana - E; Luck - A+

Skills: Riding - B; Independant Action - A;

Expert of Many Specializations - A-; Gifted with the most brutal training and extensive mental conditioning human science has to offer, John's mind was filled with science, mathematics, engineering, military history and tactics, and more. While his training was limited to that which his duties required, it is augmented by the knowledge of a second mind, Cortanna. Any skill which John in trained in may be used at Rank B, any skill which Cortanna may instruct him in at Rank D

Bravery - B; Through the combination of his training, his personality and the burden of hope placed upon him by humanity at large, John's will is unbreakable. Regardless of the situation, mental interference due to emotional or physical influences is impossible. However, vulnerability to hypnotism and the like is still possible.
>>
>>19877582

Noble Phantasm:

Broken Covenant (The Demon) - C: Whispers among the alien races of the universe speak of a human with the power to shatter the works of the gods. That human is John 117. In the grasp of the man aliens call Demon, no work of divinity is safe. From a simple set of prayer beads to the Holy Ring of the Forerunners, Halo, John can obliterate any object crafted by divine hands. Can even be used on a living opponent, so long as they have Divinity.

Missing in Action (Spartans Never Die) - EX: Spartans, it was said, were so far beyond human that they could not even be killed. This belief was so engrained in the minds of the common man that regardless of the hopelessness of odds, every Spartan lost in battle was listed as Missing in Action. It is the heartfelt belief of most humans that all the lost Spartans would return in their darkest hour, the finish the fight. John 117 simply cannot be killed, unless his death is witnessed by someone other than his enemies or master. Even one innocent person or third party is enough to negate this effect, but without that it is absolute.

It works for Assassin, since the main requirement is "mostly unknown murderers". You could make a case for "the cannibal tribe" (always commented, never found), and such. Or, in other ways:

The Myrmidons (Assassin)
The famous but greatly unknown warriors of myth can only be summoned as the Assassin class, as their feats and tale are overshadowed by the Legend of his leader, Achilles. Nonetheless, their mythical origins makes them an undeniable existence in the world.

Strength C+
Endurance C+
Agility B
Mana E
Luck B

Presence Concealment C - The Myrmidons tend to use this skill as a way to silently seize positions and arrive in ambush, although their uses for spying are possible, if you trust a warrior's instinct.
Battle Continuation B+ - As veterans of many battles, The Myrmidons skill for combat as a unit grants them endurance and strength when fighting as a group. Their Strength and Endurance will double in these conditions.

Rank C: The Ant Men, endless march of warriors
The Myrmidons fame as unstoppable warriors, showing as their dark gear of legend. Nothing will diminish the drive or skill of a Myrmidon, thus weathering the effects of terrain, wounds or prana.

Rank A: Patroclus, the guise of a champion
Focusing their prana, one Myrmidon at a time may don a striking panoply, gaining one more rank in every stat while near his brothers. However, the fall of this champion will prompt the Myrmidons to withdraw, along with the noticeable depletion in their reserves.

Hmm. The age of a hero is partially proportional to their power, no?

Perhaps we could have Horned Man from the Indus Valley civilization? I'd peg him as a pacifist Caster or maybe (if we go all weird) Saver class Servant. Perhaps his power would be the ability to tame wild beasts and to cause prosperous bounties to flourish?

Also, remade The Green Knight because stuff.

The Green Knight (Berserker, Rider)
A living being that attained harmony with Earth, it appears to test the willpower of great humans and judge them. Having passed through many "lives", its most memorable shape is that of a knight, clad in green.

Strength B
Endurance A
Agility B
Mana C
Luck D

(Berserker) Mad Enhancement B - As the Green Knight is beyond human nature, his (alien) sanity is not affected by Mad Enhancement.
(Rider) Magic resistance B
Protection of the Fairies EX - As a favored spirit, any wounds to the Green Knight's body have no effect on him, and he will avoid being truly incapacitated at all times.

Rank A: The Hewing Axe, the test of the virtuous
A weapon that severs Fate. After being attacked, succesfully or not, The Hewing Axe can be activated to return an unavoidable strike, disabling the Noble Phantasm used against him or dropping the Hero's highest stat to E Rank. The Hewing Axe will only sever one trait from each Heroic Spirit, although which one may change should the Green Knight use it again.

Rank A: The Green Girdle, a pact among beasts
An artifact inscribed with Fairy Letters, bearing a contract of servitude to the Green Knight. Through it, one of four Nature Spirits (or in the case of Berserker, only The Fae) can be summoned:
The Deer: Agility A. Fast and elusive, it can invoke a forest Marble to isolate the Green Knight from danger.
The Boar: Strength A. A creature with Magic Resistance. Will pin or hunt down opponents.
The Fox: Luck A. Weak but cunning. Capable of Presence Concealment and minor illusions.
The Fae: An Elemental in wyrm or human form. It may emulate the effects of faery artifacts it sees, and use Noble Phantasms severed by The Hewing Axe.
>>
>>19878593

I dunno. Even among Assassins, you can only summon one who was so beyond their typical mystique and skill to be named their leader by achieving a Zabinaya.
>>
>>19877778
So the user of the weapon (A master) goes from F- to E rank? Doesn't seem worth it.
>>

>>
The Tsavo Maneaters (Assassin)

Str: B
End: A
Agi: B
Mana: E
Luck: E

Class Skill
Presence Concealment (A+) - It is possible to disappear completely and become almost impossible to be detected. However, efficacy will decrease once preparations to attack are taken.

Personal Skills
Animal Dialogue (A+) - As animals themselves, the Maneaters have an intuitive understanding of the "language without words," and are able to convey nuanced concepts.

Battle Continuation (A) - Makes possible to fight even with deadly injuries and can remain alive so long as one does not receive a decisive fatal wound.

Nobel Phantasm - Ghosts in the Kenyan Night (A)
While operating in their lifetime, the Tsavo Maneaters evaded all attempts to either trap or defend against them. As such, no defense will be effective against them. They will slip past all barriers and defenses, both physical and magical, in pursuit of their prey. Only offensive actions have a chance of being effective against this Servant.

I'm amused by the thought of someone trying to summon a servant and only having say an axe, or a spear or a gun drop down to the ground and the master then going "whelp, time to win the war".

These weapons raise parameters and give a few unique abilities, but are still exceptionally dangerous compared to a regular servant.

Okay, at computer now. Ha Ha time for Mana Heros.

Saber / "The Mana Hero".

Parameters:
Str: A
End: B
Agi: A
Mana: A
Luck: B

Abilities:
Magic Resistance (Saber class skill) : C
Runes : B - The Mana hero has a contract with 8 elemental spirits which allows him mediocre casting ability *or* the ability to place runes on equipment giving it elemental properties.
Item Creation : B - Allows creation of a 'workshop' (Things created at this workshop may be enhanced by runes, providing a variety of magical effects).
Eternal Arms Mastery : C - The Mana Hero has fought with a large variety of weapons over his countless lives, he may use any 'weapon' he can wield in his own two hands as a D rank noble phantasm (rank goes up to C if it is enhanced by runes).

Noble Phantasms :

The Sword that is not a Sword - The Mana Sword [EX Rank]
In the hands of the Mana Goddess, this 'sword' was the implement that created the universe, In the hands of the Mana Hero it is reduced in power, but still quite extraordinary - It may replicate the effects of any other 'sword' type noble phantasm, but the wielder must still pay the full mana/prana cost for any effect it produces, it is never capable of replicating the look of another weapon. In its dormant form this 'sword' is vines and leaves along the wielders right arm, in its active form it is a 'sword' that sprouts from the arm of about 4 feet in length, it cannot be determined if this weapon is made of wood or metal, it is not restricted to right handed use either, it is bonded symbiotically with its wielder.
1/2
>>
Smashing the Mana Fortress - Time flows as a river [B Rank]
The Mana Hero has lived countless lives and in those lives been part of innumerable conflicts typically with the culmination of his story involving him destroying a great fortress singlehandedly. When fighting against reality marbles or special fortifications, The Mana Hero may unleash a special burst from The Mana Sword that destroys a portion of the reality marble or fortification (allowing entrance or exit for both the hero, or other parties).

Slaying the Enraged Wyrm - Death of the Mana Beast [B Rank]
In The Mana Hero's innumerable lives he has fought countless great beasts especially great dragons called "Mana Beasts". When fighting against beasts/animals, spirit beasts, or dragons and wielding the Mana sword or a weapon of his own creation, The Mana hero recieves a single rank up to all parameters (even if he would normally be unable to).

He's probably a little overpowered, and I was *thinking* about allowing him the option of access to the rider class (giving him a dragon, but taking away runes and item creation), but overall I kind of like it.

Slight update to Nobunaga in a nod to Nasu's comments about guns.

Tanegashima - The Whirlwind From the West [Rank B]
The musket which revolutionized Japanese warfare at the hands of Nobunaga Oda. Its bullets are powerful enough to prove lethal even to a Servant. While a single-shot musket, the Tanegashima is bound to the musketmen that made it a legend and imbued with their spirits, making it as much a Heroic Spirit as a Noble Phantasm. Because of this, Nobunaga can fire the Tanegashima even if his hands are occupied, the Spirit of the gun operating itself, and can even manifest multiple for a withering volley of gunfire - however, each manifestation is a separate use of the Noble Phantasm, causing significant prana drain.

Because Shingen and Kenshin were done already, i feel like someone should do for the less known of the Kanto rulers

Hojo Ujiyasu, The Lion of Sagami
Archer

Str: C
End: A
Agi: C
Mana: B
Luck: B

Abilities

>Charisma - B
Hojo like the other two kanto leaders was adored by his people. Kenshin had God at his side, Shingen had his brilliant mind and Ujiyasu simply listened and helped his people. Never arrogant, Ujiyasu would personally listen to the each problem that the commoners would bring to him and soon his region was the most prosper place in all japan. Ujiyasu could've taken Japan hadn't he took a defensive position from himself

>Siege Warfare - B
Ujiyasu wasn't an man with a big ambition. He never the unification of Kanto, or the control over his rival lands. If he could choose he and his followers would simply live in peace at his lands alongside his enemies, but that wasn't what his enemies wanted, So Ujiyasu to balance the constant offensive of Kenshin & Shingen specialised on the defensive art of the Siege Warfare.
While a excellent tactician on his own, Ujiyasu talents shined when he was tasked on the defence or attack of a castle or edification. The Hojo Clan was simply on another level when compared to the other clans: their builders were brilliant engineers, their warmachines were masterpieces and each soldier knew every single street or trap of the castle.
When Ujiyasu faces(and) or uses an Anti-Army (and) or Anti-Fortress he receive bonus modifiers.

Noble Phantasm

>Odawara - The Lion's Den
Out of all the holdings, Odawara was the most important and consequently the most attacked, but on the hands of Ujiyasu, the attacks were always repelled and the city prospered to become the richest place of the region on his time. When Ujiyasu is summoned he fixes himself at a location or buiding, and then just by living there Ujiyasu presence will begun to change the local choosen and it's surroundings for the better. The Lifespan of the civillians will rise, the violence will decrease, houses will become bigger, people will become richer, slums will become great communities where money, creativity and technology flows on a higher velocity. While the process may be slow if the servant decides to just sit and wait, the Hojo can speed up the time to staggering velocities by meeting the locals and helping them.
Soon, Ujiyasu has the total trust of the civilians and vice-versa. Once he gained the trust of them, Ujiyasu will create an specie of hive mind, where there he can help his followers or vice-versa.
If Ujiyasu isn't stopped his area of influence will continue to grow: from streets to neighbourhoods;from neighbourhoods to cities; from cities to states and etc.
And in the center of it all, the location where Hojo first fixed "transforms" into the "Odawara Castle" the center off his whole empire.

The Castle is stupidly resistant even by NP standards being able to take even some hits from some big "Anti-Fortress" NP and is filled with incredibly dangerous traps & soldiers that will attack anyone the servant or his master seems fit.
The Destruction of the Castle will stop all growing that Hojo influence was forcing on the place and while the gains the holding had will be not be regressed it will never grow as prosperous as it would grow if the Castle were around.

If Hojo somewhat survive the fall of the castle, he might fix himself on another place after days, weeks or even months of rest, depending on how much his old holding would had grown

That isn't really a solid distinction, as Ali definitely captured an American zeitgeist that spread to the world and Hitler was fucking Hitler.

Don't suck Nasu's glass dick; to be a Servant you have to do is a) become known for doing something really well in life (Kojirou, Li Shuwen from Extra, Caster, possibly Gilles, Apocrypha Caster, True Assassin) b) be a legend of some sort (Most Sabers, Gil, both Lancers, Rider and Broskander, Vlad, Lu Bu, Herc) or c) make a contract with the world/have some bullshit keeping you alive (EMIYA, Saber Prime, Gil in the 5th). It is possible to make multiple qualifications; this might earn you the King of X title. Broskander and Gil are A and B, EMIYA's A and C, Saber and Gil in the 5th are all of the above.

Himetsuru Ichimonji - Unto Enemies Provide Salt (EX)
A masterfully crafted blade symbolic of its wielder's insurmountable chivalry. Gifted to him by a sworn rival, after Kenshin saw fit to supply provisions upon hearing their camp was starving, with the words "Battles are fought with swords and spears, not with rice and salt".

When bearing this sword in battle, its cutting power is keener or duller in accordance with the strength of its opponent; against a fully prepared enemy the sword is unstoppable, but against a weakened or injured foe, the sword weakens.

Bishamon-ten (B)
A large sake cup from which Kenshin ritually drank at the onset of every battle, to gain the blessing of the God of War.

Taking the time to finish a drink of alcohol from this cup before battle bestows martial prowess on par with the Master At Arms skill until the either side retreats or is defeated.

Well, mana sword *immediately* reveals who he is when he pulls that shit - balance wise it might need to downgrade whatever it replicates by a single rank. In *practice* I envision him setting up his workshop, building a few items/weapons and putting runes on them, then going off to fight - and basically reserving the mana sword as a trump card.

Replicating Excaliblasts tends to screw your mana/prana supplies pretty badly even for *good* mages.

Bard-based HSs could similarly fall under Caster.
>>
>>19886795

Aside from the obviously canonical Avenger (the anti-hero class), and the psuedo-canonical Saver (The Divine Beings class) and Ruler (NOT a class for Kings and Emperors, but sort of a combination immune system/referee from the grail itself).

There is the Temptress class (I would think Seducer would be a more fitting name, both for name theme and to include men) for heroes whose legends are built around manipulation, control and sexuality, particularly with a parasitic bent. Arcrueid, supposedly, could fit into this class because of her vampiric nature, so assumedly any true vampire could. Famous figures of romance such as Casanova, Don Juan, Cleopatra, or Scheherazade are obvious candidates. Also anyone who leeched money or life from others through means that wouldn't qualify one as Caster (so probably a no for Rasputin)

Beast was originally a unique class for the containment of the 666th Beast, aka Lucifer, but has been extrapolated out to qualify for any animal that has become a heroic spirit. Remember, such animals must have gained this quality through HUMAN WORSHIP. Most magical creatures, as extensions of Gaia's Will, would most likely not qualify. Think about "mundane" animals that have been elevated to legends, like Anasi the Spider, Coyote, or Smokey the Bear

>>19887003

fuck yes Coyote.

I once ran a game where deities walked the earth along primal spirits, and I threw Coyote in there. One minute he was dropping a clue to the party about the current mystery, the next he was animating skeletons for them to fight.

someday, I dearly wish to run a game in that setting again.
>>
>>19886979

Finally there is the questionable "Monster," class. This was how Shiki Ryougi was ID'd during her cameo in Fate/Extra. Logically, this class would either be:

1) Human-like creatures who have gained heroic spirit status despite being neither human or animal. This would fit automatons, like Frankenstein's Monster, and in Shiki's case would probably revolve around the fact that her third personality is literally the incarnation of Alaya in a human body. It may also qualify non-vampiric mystical creatures which could qualify for Heroic Spirit status through human worship, such as the Golden Werewolf, the Lady of the Lake, and other non-Vampiric nature spirits.

2) Not a servant class at all and just the game UI's way of identifying an existence on a scale with a Servant.

The only other class I was able to conceive of was The Adventurer/The Explorer. This class would be reserved for those Heroic Spirits whose legend is related to going to unknown places, exploring mysteries, or accomplishing great quests. Someone mentioned Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Everest, and he would probably fit. Other examples might include Marco Polo, Lief Erikson, or Psyche (since she BECAME a god rather than being BORN a god, she would probably be a heroic spirit rather than a divine being), whose legend doesn't really give her any powers but was focused on her journey to find Eros and the tasks she did to reunite with him.

The important key to remember: The Grail will ALWAYS prefer primary classes. Frankenstein will ALWAYS be Berserker if she can before being Monster. Same thing for Arcruid and Temptress vs Berserker. Odysseus will always be Archer before he's Explorer/Adventurer. It's hard-coded that way. Extra classes are only available if there is no other container for the Spirit.

How would Adventurer work, and the others? In terms of base parameters and other things.
>>
>>19887559

Good question. Unfortunately, the non-basic classes are major deviations from the normal Grail War rules, so they haven't been canonically codified in terms of their basic parameters. Not even Avenger.

If there was one example of the "base levels" of any one deviant class, extrapolation would be possible, but as is, anything would be pretty much made up.

This skill represents the users ability to find and utilize objects from their environment. At A+ rank, the user can use objects in ways that are unexpected or absolutely impossible.

Sadness (A)
Similar to Mad Enhancement, Issac is at his strongest while in the grips of depression, and the strength of his shots will increase.

Battle Continuation (A+)
At this rank, Battle continuation makes it possible to fight on even after death, and the user must be killed a second time.

Noble Phantasm - Everything is Terrible - The Many Faces of Sin (A rank, Anti-unit)
In his adventure, Issac can become more powerful as he finds treasures strewn about the basement. This NP replicates this effect. If Issac finds an appropriate item, in this case something grotesque or related in some way to Christianity, he can use it to increase the rank of his parameters. Each Item of similar Item can only be used once, i.e. if Issac's parameters are increased using a dead dove, a second dove will have no effect. Increasing his Parameters in this way causes Issac to become progressively more non-human and monstrous.

Noble Phantasm - The Tarot Deck (C Rank, Anti-Unit)
In the Basement, Issac found a deck of Tarot cards. Issac can activate these cards for various effects such as attacking the enemy, healing himself, summoning objects, or teleporting away. Each card can only be used once.

Noble Phantasm - Down through the Trap Door - The Labyrinthine Basement (A Rank, Anti-Army)
This Noble Phantasm is a Reality Marble that draws Issac's opponents into the hellish basement that he wandered through in his adventure. The basement is filled with hostile monsters, most considered E Rank Noble Phantasms with ranks progressing as once descends. Issac himself is transported to the penultimate floor, a cathedral. While within the Cathedral all of Issac's Parameters are boosted 2 ranks. If Issac is killed here, Battle Continuation does not come into play. If Issac has already been killed, and is continuing to fight using Battle Continuation, his opponent will have to traverse an additional floor.

I don't want to hate on your work or anything, but frankly this is PRECISELY what I was concerned about with the concept of Servants from books, games and TV. This isn't about the "legend," of the character, its a duplication of his powers from the game.

The Hundred Face Hassan didn't literally have however many seperate bodies, Lancelot couldn't magically obscure his identity with a smoke cloud, The Blood Fort Andromeda was not originally a Bounded Field, The Golden Fleece never had the power to actually SUMMON the Colchiss Dragon, etc.

The point being, Servants aren't about exactly duplicating the hero as he was in life, they're about conveying his legend in a form that fits with the class template. They're about half how they were in life, half the legends the human race has imputed on them, which is why Alexander the great is a burly redhead rather than a slim golden boy (its what he really looked like) and yet has his magical Zeus chariot (in the version of the legend I found, he only kept the divine bulls, not any magical vehicles, and he didn't ride around with them or anything).
>>
>>19888801
So with that statement in mind - How do you feel about the mana hero posted earlier? some of it is power replication but more of it is based on his legend
>>
>>19888910

To be honest, I don't know anything about Heroes of Mana or its sequels, so I don't really feel like I'm qualified to judge that one.

But as a general rule, heroes that are "generic," ie don't have a specific known identity, are a bad idea by Nasuverse rules.

Take Fate/Stay Night's "fake" Assassin, Koujirou. He was an "unknown," spirit before Caster summoned him, a Wraith that was haunting the Fuyuki Temple. In life, he had perfected a technique that later became known as the signature move of a "fictional" hero, Koujirou Sasaki. The Wraith himself was NOT Koujirou, he was just some farmer who played with swords in his spare time. But when Caster SUMMONED Koujirou, the Wraith took on his identity.

Koujirou couldn't be summoned without a soul that matched that template, but the soul couldn't be a heroic spirit on his own despite having achieved a Miracle/Noble Phantasm because he wasn't know.

A hero without a name like your "Mana Hero," would probably fall under similar rules. He would HAVE to take on the form of a "fictional," template that matched his skills to be summoned.
>>
>>19889014
The Mana Hero is never named in the games because he is player avatar. The strong thematic element though is that he is always born of the mana tree / mana tribe (the mana tree *is* the mana goddess, after she creates the universe with the mana sword she chooses to become a tree, and the people that live around the tree are the mana tribe) if the tree is ever destroyed a new woman from the tribe is chosen to become the tree. In short he's a continually reincarnated hero, if you're familiar with wheel of time he's kind of like Rand Al'Thor / Lews Therin character.

There are always a few constants with the Mana hero - he is always a masterful warrior who ends up wielding the mana sword, he always has the blessing of 8 elements (light, dark, wood, metal, earth, wind, water, fire) sometimes having to travel the world to repower the sword if it or mana weakens.

He always ends up fighting great beasts, quite a few times when mana is wildly out of balance (or the mana tree has been burned to ashes by the mana fortress) he ends up fighting a great white dragon called the "Mana Beast" quite capable of destroying the world.

He almost always ends up destroying fortresses / evil empires single handedly. Sometimes he manages to get crazy shit like dragons to ride around on. In setting the mana sword when wielded by heros *is* that settings excalibur / gram / hrunting / caladbolg etc.

The workshops / item creation is mostly from legend of mana, but the games themselves typically have a blacksmith / weapon upgrade system in them.

The guy has had countless lives, so he's never exactly the same - but there are a few constants in his legend, notably wielding the mana sword, destroying a fortress, slaying great beasts and being a master of many weapons and having a pact with elementals.

Saber [Lugh]

Parameters:

Strength: A
Endurance: A
Agility: A
Mana: C
Luck: A

Alignment: Neutral Good

Skills:

Magic Resistance: A

Charisma: A - High King of the Tuatha de Denaan and beloved for his skill with the harp and in all the arts of the peoples of Denaan.

Divinity: C - A quarter Fomorian by way of his grandfather, Balor of the Evil Eye, and sometimes revered as a god of the sun, giving him an aura of divinity.

Expert of Many Specializations: EX - See Samhildánach for details.

Noble Phantasms:

Samhildánach - One Who is Skilled In Every Art [Rank EX]: Lugh is uniquely identified as a paragon of every skill, and indeed earned his place among the Denaan not by displaying any skill which the Denaan did not already know, but by knowing all of them at once. Lugh's class is not visible to his opponents, and he is considered to have the rank of A++ in Expert of Many Specializations. In addition, Lugh may claim any of the following skills at an A Rank, though only one at a time: Independent Action, Uncrowned Arms Mastership, Riding, or Protection of the Faeries. As well, Lugh may possess one Noble Phantasm among those normally belonging to other classes in addition to the one he wields according to his class, which will be chosen at the time of summoning.
>>
>>19889755
Fragarach - The Answerer [Rank B Anti-Unit]:
The blade of Lugh, named the Answerer, it strikes down his enemies before their hands are raised against him. Used in response to another Noble Phantasm, Fragarach winds back the clock, striking the heart of the foe in the moment before their strike. Its power has been diluted by its use in the hands of mortals, but reunited with its true owner, it is still a weapon guaranteed to destroy the heart of a foe. This is Lugh's Noble Phantasm as a Saber.

Areadbhar - Finest Yew of the Wood [Rank A Anti-Army]

Lugh owned many fine spears by many names, and their legends come together in this weapon. A spear which, when cast, strikes and returns without fail, its head burns with a flame so hot that it must constantly be doused in a cauldron of water, which will inevitably be boiled away within the hour. For raw force, Lugh's most powerful Phantasm, the heat of its wake will scorch the earth where it passes and can even threaten a Servant, and a direct hit threatens death to even Servants of Endurance Rank A without some additional protection. Lugh's Noble Phantasm when summoned in the class of Lancer.
>>
>>19889758
Tathlum - Strike Out the Eye of Evil [Rank A Anti-Personnel]:
A sling armed with a concrete stone, Tathlum was used to kill Lugh's grandfather, Balor of the Evil Eye, a frightful giant whose Mystic Eye slayed the king of the Tuatha, Nuada. The stone drove Balor's eye from his head and out the back, and as he fell dead to the ground, it scorched the earth in one final burst, creating the lake now known as the Lake of the Eye. Normally an A-Rank Anti-Personnel Noble Phantasm, when directed against one who possesses Mystic Eyes, their force is directed back against the user. This is Lugh's Noble Phantasm when summoned as an Archer.

Aenbharr - His Mane Flows as the Waves [Rank B]
A steed gifted to Lugh by the sea god Manannán mac Lir. It can ride over land and sea with equal ease and speed, ferrying Lugh into battle. Aenbharr cannot be turned aside by any manipulation, being used to galloping on shifting waves - once given a destination, it will bear Lugh there without fail, even after its own death. This is Lugh's Noble Phantasm when summoned as a Rider.

>The Demon Lord Of the Round Table - The Infernal Ruler who Reigns Supreme
"Oh, him? Yeah, I know him. It's going to take a while. It happened years ago. Did you know... there are three kind of aces? Those who seek strength, those who live for pride, and those who can read the tide of battle. Those are the three. And him... he was a true ace."

Cipher was probably the best fighter pilot of his time, who could change the whole battle by just being there. It was thanks to his skills that he was given the nickname of "The Demon Lord of the Round Table" to showcase how skilled he was on a near supernatural level. He never run out of Fuel, Bullets or Missiles and even though he had his favorite jet the F-15, Cipher could control masterfully any other aircraft like a true god.
Any Aircraft used by him is considered a NP, he never runs out of fuel, bullets, missiles or any extra weapon the vehicle has and it will never show any sort of technical failure

>The Round Table - The Battlefield of the Equals
"This is the Round Table. Dead men's words hold no meaning."

The Round Table or Airspace B7R is the main battlefield that Cipher and his rivals fought, and it's impressed in the memory of every single one of them.It comes by its name from the mountain range that runs through the area creating a circle, in which it makes a reference to the Arthurian legend where as its name suggests, it has no head, implying that everyone who sits there has equal status. In this case the equal status is the fighting terms in which the pilots endure for there is no distinct advantage for anyone and those who achieve victory only upon their proper skills. No one had support from ground-based emplacements.
When Cipher uses this NP, he creates a Reality Marble of the Battlefield that made him and other fighters legends. There Cipher will appear piloting his aircraft of choice and will challenge his opponent to a battle.
In the Round Table, while Cipher will not gain or suffer any bonuses he and his opponent will become invincible against ground attacks and the only way to defeat any of them is in a Aerial Battle. If the opponent has no way of flight Cipher will give to his choosen enemy an aircraft.
Cipher only chooses to use this NP when he decides he want a battle with no interruptions

Noble Phantasm:

Zabaniya - The Three Temptations [Rank A Anti-Personnel]

This Zabaniya is a form of Mystic Eye stolen and implanted from an unknown source. Using a form of hypnotism, it kills in three ways - first, a scorching desert heat is produced which burns the body and saps one's physical strength. Should the target resist this effect, secondly their muscles compress as though a great weight has been cast upon them, or as though they have fallen from a great height. The last Temptation is the most subtle - it offers relief from the damages suffered in the first two attacks - if accepted, though it heals all hurt caused by the first two attacks, it destroys the body's natural healing ability, rendering the victim's body unable to reject any wound suffered from that point on - only Assassin's whim and expenditure of his prana may then allow the victim to heal.

Top of the Mountain - The Garden of Paradise [Rank C Marble Phantasm]

The legendary garden in which the Hashashin were born. Entering the Garden requires Assassin to enter a death-like trance which creates a great smoke-cloud - entering this cloud draws one into the Garden as well. A false Paradise created by the engineering of Hassan, prospective Hashashin would be drugged and taken in secret to the Garden, a false Heaven which promised relief from the burdens of the world if one would only serve Hassan-i-Sabbah. The Marble is a place of succor and every pleasure is available here, but they are false and will not sustain any but Assassin. Acts of violence will break the peace of the Garden, and so it is usually used as a method of retreat rather than as a weapon, but it can be offered as a poisonous temptation by Assassin as well - within a day, the Garden's pleasures cannot be escaped without some form of mental resistance. Dying within the Garden renders you another of the servants who tend it.

>>
>>19890059
Haha, pretty much.

I figured someone should address the history of the name "Old Man of the Mountain" though. So there it is - The garden of the Hashashin, where foolish young men were taken to Heaven and promised eternal reward if they gave their life in his name... all cleverly created through hallucinogens and good ol' fashioned hashish hazes. Also, a lot of whores.

A LOT of whores.
>>

But that puts Lugh with a lower Divinity stat than his son, Cu Chulainn (who has Divinity B).

At least in the Nasuverse, it seems that Lugh is considered a full deity.

Yeah, fair enough

He should probably have Hercules's Divinity, then, as someone who was considered both Mortal and a God at varying points.

>>
Now if I could just work up a Noble Phantasm for him...

Berserker [Shuten-doji]

Parameters:
Str: A+
End: A
Agi: B
Mana: D
Luck: D

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral - Wild and uncontrollable, Shuten-doji is not cruel but has an insatiable appetite for women, wine, and treasure. However, he is known to respect and care for pariahs and children.

Skills:

Mad Enhancement

Divnity: B - Considered a lord of the Oni despite being only half a demon.

Natural Body: B - Shuten-doji was born perfectly strong and healthy, already capable of acting as a human and with a full head of hair, and maintained his youthful appearance even as he became feared as a demon. Thanks to the Medicine of Immortality, his body will never be weakened or aged, and he needs no training to maintain his strength.

Nature of a Rebellious Spirit: B

Mountain God: C - Shuten-doji's origins are widely disputed, but it is agreed that he was abandoned as a child on one of the mountains of Japan and became a natural master of the terrain. Shuten-doji is most at home in the mountains and can easily move through rocky terrain with a perfect sense of direction.

Onmyo Magecraft: C - Shuten-doji knows many secrets of the Onmyo, but is not skilled in their use. This skill is unavailable to him under the effect of Mad Enhancement.

how about something like this

Godly Appetite - The Neverending Hunger of the Great Oni
Shuten has many stories about him, but there is always something that it's repeated in all of them. Shuten is in constantly hunger and most of his actions are a consequence of it.
the Oni Lord can eat practically everything, and if his hunger isn't satisfied soon, Doji will begin to grow angrier and angrier and will try to eat everything on his way, until he is satisfied.
Even though Alcohol is what truly satisfy the god, Doji can eat from physical things to whole concepts and everything that he eats will be stored in his body which he can expel later, but if he expels too much of it Doji will start to feel more and more hunger and if his master doesn't want him to go crazy he will have to give something quick to the Oni to satisfy him quickly
Rank A

Not a bad idea at all. Might interact with a low baseline level of Mad Enhancement, reflecting the idea that he wasn't always a demon but became more demon-like as he indulged his greed further [and making him even more similar to his 'opposite number', Apocrypha's Kintaro]
>>
Well, since his monster exists...

Caster [Victor Frankenstein]

Parameters:
Str: D
End: D
Agi: C
Mana: B
Luck: D

Alignment: True Neutral - Propelled mostly by his own ego, while his goals might be noble, he is not a very good person. His warped world-view and tendency towards egomaniacal behavior make him difficult to predict or judge.

Skills:

Territory Creation - B

Item Construction - A: Specialist in artificial life.

Mental Pollution - C

Surgical Procedure - B

Noble Phantasm:

Modern Prometheus - The Art of Stealing Fire [Rank EX]
Renowned for his creation of his 'monsters', Frankenstein's homunculi are imbued with life through this secret art. Gifting them with the spark of life, Frankenstein can take even very disparate creations and bind them together into a functional homunculus with the power of a low-rank Heroic Spirit. Control over these beings passes to his Master, and they can sometimes be difficult to handle.
>>
Ned Kelly (Rider/Archer/Berserker)

Strength: C
Endurance: B
Agility: D
Mana: E
Luck: D

Alignment: Chaotic neutral - A simple man, capable of great kindness or great cruelty. His support for fellow underdogs is matched only by his blind hatred of authority.

Skills:

Riding C(Archer/Berserker)/A(Rider): Ned Kelly spent much of his life on horseback, his skill extends to other beasts of burden, but unless he is of the Rider class he can only handle vehicles at an average level.

Independent Action B (Archer only): Ned Kelly is capable of remaining in the world for two days with no ill effects without an established contract

Battle Continuation C: Kelly took severe wounds to his legs while wearing armor that most men would find difficult to lift and kept fighting. While a severe enough injury may bring him to his knees or to the ground, he will keep fighting even in such a state until dead.

Charisma D: Ned Kelly is a very easy person to get along with, he can make friends and garner favours from almost anyone given enough time to converse.

Projectile (pistols) C: Shots fired from Kelly's pistols are faster and truer than any ordinary handgun, and are capable of wounding servants

>>
My own shot at a [somewhat tongue-in-cheek] fictitious hero.

Assassin [Travis Touchdown]

Parameters:
Str: C
End: D
Agi: A
Mana: D
Luck: D

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral - How else do you describe a guy who spends his hit money on lucha masks, magical girl anime merchandise, and bitchin' motorcycles? He does seem to have a heart, it's just buried way down deep in the pervy schoolteacher section of his heart.

Skills:

Nature of a Rebellious Spirit: B

Uncrowned Arms Mastership

Noble Phantasm:

Anarchy in the Galaxy - Come On, I Cut Off Your Fucking Head, Seriously [Rank EX]
Travis Touchdown's weapons of choice are a variety of laser swords... which don't seem particularly lethal most of the time. When Travis strikes a killing blow, he may give his opponent a few moments of continued existence - however, these last moments cannot be used to take any meaningful action. They're great for rambling monologues or sudden plot twists though!

Strawberry on the Shortcake - He's A Tiger in Disguise [Rank B]
Travis occasionally manifests the ability to become a GODDAMNED TIGER. This has obvious applications.

The Crownless King - Still Number One, Baby [Rank A]
Unfittingly enough for an assassin, Travis seems to exude an aura of pure douchebaggery strong enough to attract challengers insistent on testing his killing prowess. He always rises to the challenge. [though his stamina could use some work]
>>
>>19890784
I'll fix that. I did that portion of the list while I was pretty tired, so that one slipped through the cracks.
>>
>>19890781
(Continued)

Mad Enhancement C (Berserker only): Ned Kelly recieves a bonus to Strength, Endurance and Luck. At the cost of most of his mind. He is capable of considering battle situations and direct orders from his master, but little else.

Phantasms:

"Betty" - Weapon of the bushranger (C): Anti-unit. Ned Kelly's favourite rifle. It is powerful enough to punch through all forms of non-magical armor. This weapon will continue to point and fire at Kelly's enemies until Kelly has faded completely

Last Stand - hand-forged armor (B-A+): Armor made by Ned Kelly himself. This suit is strengthened by Kelly's resolve to win, and becomes harder to break and more magically resilient the more damage Kelly has suffered. When Kelly is dying the suit is unbreakable. This armor does not cover Kelly's legs at all.

The Kelly Gang - Dan, Steve and Joe (A): Ned Kelly is capable of summoning forth his most loyal followers as well as four stallions to aid him in battle. The three men, Dan Kelly, Steve Hart and Joe Byrne, all act as individual servants and add drain to Kelly's master. They posess the skills Pistols (D) and Riding (D). The horses are spiritual beasts tied to the four men and are faster and stronger than any live horse. This Phantasm is only available if Ned Kelly is of the Rider class

(So what do you guys think?)

While we're on the subject of Hassans, here's a few ideas I've come up with. Most of these are fairly barebones, but maybe someone can do something with them:

Delusional Phobia: kills the target with fear.
Delusional Nightmare: The assassin has the ability to invade dreams like freddy kreuger. Woe betide him if he decides to attack when the master is dreaming about their servant's past...
Insanity Reflection: The assassin exists in a mirror world and can jump between reflective surfaces, sort of like the Hanged Man stand from JJBA.
Cyber Euphoria: The assassin can used loads of drugs to boost his stats to obscenely high levels for a short amount of time.
Delusional Hunger: The assassin gains the ability to consume people and assume their shape, sort of like the Thing.
Delusional Perception: The assassin stole someone's Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.
Absolute Unreality: The assassin stole satan's tongue, giving him the ability to lie like the devil and influence his victims verbally.
Delusional Paranoia: A slender man assassin. I have no idea how this would work out, but I think it would be hilarious/horrifying.

Class: Saber
Name: Beowulf
Alignment: Neutral Good
Strength: B
Endurance: C
Agility: D
Mana: C
Luck: B
Class Ability: Magic Resistance(C)
Class Ablility: Ride (D)
Ability: Charisma(C): Beowulf ruled a country for 50 years
Ability: Battle Continuation (C): Despite being mortally wounded, Beowulf was still able to slay a dragon
Ability: Monster Slayer (B+): Beowulf inflicts more damage against anything with beastial or draconic traits.

Noble Phantasm: Hrunting, Sword of the Red Plains (C+)
Hrunting is a incredibly sharp blade, able to cut through almost any substance. However, it cannot damage anything constructed magically.

Noble Phantasm: Naegling, The Unfailing Blade (B+)
Naegling is Beowulf's trusted family blade. While it caps his strength at C, it at the same time increases his damage against monsters and dragons, as well as boosting his Endurance, Luck, and Agility to A.

Noble Phantasm: Bypassing the Hide (B)
No matter the defenses, Beowulf can use his Strength to break through. He can forgo the use of his swords to boost his Strength to A+, and attempt to simply rip his target in half. This attack must be contested with the target's Strength.
