GET THE FUCK IN HERE YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS. EPISODE VI STARTS NOW!Last Episdoe: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19837339/Where last we left our intrepid hero, we were talking with a woman known as Lady Jeyne Flowers, tapmistress of a winesink near the docks of Saltmouth. She has information to trade and sell, and a bag of stags has got her talking, if just a bit. We are currently investigating the mysterious “curse” around Veronica Cargill, and what the fuck that is all about. So let us see what is happening….The woman leans back in the chair, her red hair spilling down over her shoulders. “M’lord, I haven’t heard anything specific about this poor, cursed girl… But I will be listening. I always listen when such issues are spoken of. After all, I do appreciate the good will and trust of my friends.”
You simply nod, and ponder that. While you are here, though, you have plenty of other questions. Potential avenues of questioning could be:>History, backstory, or rumors of a specific noble House>Anything on the 'Mad Maester' or the wine smugglers>Information on individual lords and ladies>Any rumors, from the Arbor or beyondWhile you think, Lady Jeyne pours herself a glass of Arbor red, still watching you.... You are getting the feeling that she is trying to dissect you with her eyes, to break you down into easily remembered and profitable tidbits.
Let's see what she's heard of the Mad Maester and the house of Clawwater.
Let's get some information on the Redwynes, in case we want to get married into the family and we could use some less than reputable info if we need to. Anyway, we could also ask for information on the "mad maester", though I am hesitant about that. We could also ask if there are any people who would be interested in joining our silk guard from her. She seems like a person who, if turned, can be a valuable ally though it's dangerous.
Been following this thread since it's beginning, and this will actually be my very first post on /tg/, but here's what I made during the intermission. Hope you folks like it.
>>19846826The smile on her face wavers a little bit. "You know, that is just a rumor and hasn't been anything more than that in a hundred years. An Arbor myth, a legend. The story goes that some maester died here nearly a century ago, but that his house couldn't survive without the wise counsel of their maester. So they talked to witches and warlocks, from the Shadowlands and Asshai, and they used dark magics to bring the man back from beyond the grave. But his mind was twisted and tainted, the darkness hidden within him. He led his house towards ruin, and all of the family died when their neighbors saw the horrors they had done."Lady Jeyne looks a little shaken by this. "It is a peasant myth, m'lord. Nothing more.">Roll 4d6 to get to the bottom of this shit.
rolled 6, 2, 2, 6 = 16>>19846914To the bottom of it!
>>19846863That is.... really good. Welcome to the thread, man.
rolled 1, 6, 6, 6 = 19Wasn't the conclusion in the other thread that we would try to talk her into joining us?
>>19846863Sigilfag from the last thread. Kicks the shit out of mine. Welcome home, brother.
>>19846942Joining? I felt that the conversation drifted more towards 'employ her' rather than have her join us in a more formal matter. I remember one anon liking that a lot for deniability. >>19846920You know that there is something shaking her up. I mean, she literally had a cinematic pause when you asked the question. Pushing her a little on it, she gives ground. "Listen, the guy doesn't exist. And if you think there is someone out there pretending to be the 'mad maester,' running around and scaring your smallfolk, I cannot help you there... But it would be a clever disguise, huh? Perhaps you should look into that, m'lord."
PERFECT FUCKING TIMING!Sorry for dropping out so unexpectedly last night, I fell asleep.
>>19847012Yeah, i meant that. Since she should be receptive to that offer.
>>19847012both ways.we could have her officially in our house, but not publicly.actually since she is not a agent but a information broker we could simply have her in our house.its her rumour and agent network that we cant have in our house.from what we suspect she may be a noble bastard, so she is good enough to join the house.
>>19847022No issues. Welcome back man.>>19847004Dude, you pumped out like eight shields in forty five minutes. Do not belittle yourself here. Btw, I will be using them for the rest of the quest. And if you stick around, we will probably need you again. Once we start dicking around on the mainland, then we literally triple the number of NPCs.>>19847058>>19847025Do we want to put that question to her now? Give it some time?
>>19847058That sort of defeats the purpose we are originally hiring her.If she is in our house she will be more 'interesting' as such it would defeat the purpose of having her as our spy master.
>>19847058hmmh. indeed. we could have a tavern vendor in our house as a consultant about small businesses and the like.officially...Should be a good enough cover, and give her the incentive to be loyal to a fault to us, beyond simple gold.
>>19847082well of course, not now.in a few months after she proves herself with true information and trustworthy service.
>>19847082Lets ask a few more questions, before broaching the subject.Ask about The contraband Wine.
She smiles again, the dark shade passing. "Oh? Has some of m'lord's wine gone missing? Tsk Tsk, you should keep a better eye on such things... After all, once you lose them, they can wind up anywhere. Say, in Oldtown?" You motion to Doros, who drops three gold dragons onto the table. Scooping them into a hidden purse in her sleeve, Lady Jeyne starts up again. "You have smugglers stealing your wines straight out of the wineries, and running them to the coast. From there, they sail the wines out to the Clawwater's islands, where Free City merchants carry them off. Some of it ends up in Oldtown, I am sure. More heads east, towards Myr and Lys."
>>19847082Why thank you, kind DM.Do you know what time this thread will keep going on until? It's 21:20 GMT and I have to get going but I'll be back on later so I can make a bunch more (or at least try to) should you need any later on tonight.
>>19847181Now that I slept? This thing will be going strong for the next 8+ hours, at least. If this thread dies, just look for a lifeboat thread. Damn autosage does us in sometimes.
>>19847178Ask her for more information.
>>19847012Awww shit. The Maester outfit is a disguise. We've been acting under the assumption that the Mad Maester was an actual Maester who went rogue, but it's actually someone pretending to be one. He could be anyone!Okay, here's what we gotta do: capture more of the smugglers. Specifically, we need higher ups. We can get some of them either at the wineries or when they're loading their cargo. Let's ask the Lady if she knows what wineries are being stolen from. Also since it's going to come up, let's ask what the deal is with Lady Cargill.
>>19847216>>19847197Lady Jeyne cannot help with the first question. "To me, a winery is a winery, m'lord. Does it truly matter from where the stolen goods come? What matters is that someone, brave or foolish, is stealing your wines like it was the creed of the Seven. I am honestly surprised that it took you all this long to realize this... Are not you a lord? Should not the wise and powerful like yourself have seen this coming?" She pauses to empty her glass in one long pull. "That's all I can tell you about that."When asked about Lady Cargill, Lady Jeyne makes a face. "Poor thing... Did you know she lost her first three children? Two in the cradle, poor things, and the third was born dead. I don't know how a mother could handle such a thing. But now, she has those lovely daughters, yes? That should help heal those wounds."
Anything else to ask the lady, or do you think it is time to bugger off?
You know...don't all three girls look rather noticeably different? What if they aren't really Lady Cargill's?
Info about Neissen Cargill and the old Cargill west who might be behind the Fiancee killings.
>>19847417>>19847424What these guys said, especially the other male Cargills.
>>19847417DUN DUN DUNNNNN.... maybe? Idk man.>>19847424"Neissen Cargill is a spoiled, ambitious little lord... He will never inherit, you see. All this cousins have a better claim than him, which rankles him terribly. The fact that none of them have a cock makes it that much worse. The poor boy. His fragile little ego must hate that. As for his great-grand uncle? Lord Cargill is over seventy years now, and the Seven know how he still gets up every morning. He has only his one son now... his secondborn died in a hunt maybe fifteen years ago, and his wife is almost as old as she is. But he is a greedy, power-hungry fuck, he is. It has been rumored, for years, that he would love to take his nephew's lands from him, since he sees himself as the truest patriarch of the Cargill line."
>>19847499 Cont.Lady Jeyne smiles after she is done. "I guess things don't look too good for those Cargill girls, does it?"
So leave it at that and return to the castle? Or keep pushing the issue?>Also, I need 1d100
>>19847562It does sound rather bad. They both have the resources to pull it off, and they both seem to be unscrupulous enough that they'd actually do something like that.
rolled 30 = 30>>19847710Oh man I missed out on part 5 (still angry we didn't even talk to Dalyna at the tournament) but there is no way I'm missing part 6.
rolled 20 = 20>>19847710enough for the moment.perhaps visit another time with a offer for steady employment.
>>19847710How much would it cost us to hire her indefinitely? As "I'll give enough gold that you won't need to have other clients anymore". Obviously she'll keep the activity as a facade, but we'll get report of every rumor from the Arbor
rolled 91 = 91>>19847744or offer to join our house.
rolled 48 = 48>>19847754>>19847710house joining is the only practical way to get constant service of her skills and some loyalty.
>>19847773How does that works? Will everybody and their mothers know this?
You make a gracious exit, after dropping another golden dragon. Lady Jeyne doesn't move from the chair as we walk past her and out the door. Our little party moves down the stairs, through the taphouse, and back towards the port in silence and shadow.Once back in the dingy, Reff and Doros start rowing while you work the rudder and Iylaria watches for a tail. Luckily, you get all the way back to the castle without anyone seeming to notice. Slipping back inside the castle, you proceed to your room. Once inside, you ditch the worn clothes, unbuckle your sword belt, and pour yourself a glass of wine. However, there is some good news: a letter from Oldtown has arrived off a fishing cog. Ben is done with his studies, and takes the test soon. Once done, he will be returning to Saltmouth, along with a sizable number of new books and writing supplies.
rolled 19 = 19>>19847710Ask here if she knows anything about Veronica specifically.
>>19847754That could be.... Potentially, that could be a shit ton of gold. Or maybe just a bit. But maybe as much as a fuckton.>>19847821If we bring her into the house as a member, it would need to be either as a) a wife (not gunna happen), b) a sister (which could be politically tricky but possible), or as c) a relative. However, that is contingent on her accepting it, and that kinda blows any chance for her remaining covert and subtle.
Dammit we're late.Okay uhh... Let's collate what we know. Wine is being stolen from the wineries. We need to figure out which ones ASAP and then interrupt the thieves. We know that whoever is posing as the Mad Maester... actually that's all we know. And we know that something is rotten in the state of Cargill. I know how we can find out what--time to cleverly apply our squire to the youngest daughter! When Ben gets back lets talk to him about the Cargill situation and send a raven to the Cargills suggesting combined etiquette lessons. We should also try practicing ourselves before then.
rolled 64 = 64>>19847893Perhaps we should invite the Cargills to our crib or something?Captcha: 'ttitpa considerable'.................indeed
>>19847822 Cont.Falling asleep in your bed, you can't help but think that this shit always gets thicker, darker, and worse before it gets better.Waking in the morning, you head down to the hall to break your fast. After a meal of hardboiled eggs, fresh bread, some bacon, and a few fried sausages, you head upstairs. Terris is already laying out your clothes for the day, and as you dress, you think about what you have to do today:>Write a letter to Lord Cargill about his daughter and invite him for a hunt?>Go down into the yard to oversee some of the training of our men and our new knight, Ser Honeyhall.>Teaching Terris from the small number of books you have, and helping him with his figures.
>>19847921I don't think we should do that until after we catch the wine thief/thieves. It would be kind of emberassing if they actually did come and heard that there was a bandit defying our persuits.
I think he means to ask how much it'd cost to have her on staff.See, the thing is that this lady is a mercenary. Her swords are secrets and she is pretty good at the game. She will be an excellent source of information and a good person to know for later but the business she is in means that we cannot trust her like we do the Steel Guard. When she can make money by listening for the rumors we want to know and by selling the fact we want to know those rumors there's almost no amount of money that can make her truly trustworthy.
>>19847936What about inviting our older brother out to see our holdings?
>>19847936The second. Ben should be the one to teach Terris I think, though we might want to brush up ourselves. And I think we should hit the smugglers almost before we do anything else.
By the way, seeing as it's been a good couple of months now, surely more families should have sent word of being interested to wed their daughters to us?
>>19847936>Write a letter to Lord Cargill about his daughter and invite him for a hunt?I like that. What is there to hunt here in the Arbor?
>>19848006more importantly, why hasn't word reached Dorne yet?
>>19847950Good point. My cousin always used to say that spies are the most untrustworthy people in the world... Even your own. After all, they spy on people for money.>>19847982>>19847975>>19847948We have Terris do some reading (Maester Ayibell's Histories of the South) while we compose a letter to our brother. In it, we ask him how the family is doing, and how everything in the riverlands is. We also inquire as to the health of father, the marriage prospects of our younger sister, and if those apple trees near the river are still standing. We make a note that Coyle should hand it to a ship's captain with the coin to get it to Oldtown, and from there enough silver to get a raven.Heading down into the yard, we supervise the training of some of our new infantrymen. They are training in small groups of ten, practicing shield wall tactics as Ser Rory and Gray Thom fire blunted arrows through any gaps they can spot. While the arrows hurt like hell and leave an awful bruise, they are a pretty good training tool, as you know all too well. >Train Terris personally?>Talk to your infantry?>Talk to Ser Wallgrave
Send a courier/raven to Portain about what we have learned, and get some people to stake out Wineries and such. Also get Ben to teach Terris after we have appraised him of our findings.
>>19848068Train Terris and talk to Wallgrave. Toss the infantrymen some coins and wish them a good night on our coin.
>>19848046>>19848006Don't worry guys, that is stewing. Trust me here, the rolls just haven't picked up yet. But they will. And I just really hope it doesn't happen all at once.>>19848011The Northwood, on the lands of Lord Portain, is an excellent place to hunt boar, deer, and slinkcats (basically, think ocelots). On your lands, there are plenty of deer, fox, and badgers on your lands, especially in the orchards further back from the sea.
>>19848068>Train Terris personally? We can't leave all of the training to our men, we should do our part, officially he's our squire. After some training talk to the infantry, show ourself as a lord of the people and let them go drinking on our coin given that they just got pummeled by arrows. Then we chat with Rory.
On recruiting Jeyne, i don't think we should make her a legitimate member of the family, that has serious chance to backfire, we should take her on under the guise as a 'economic consultant' or something of the like, and if she proves herself and her network useful over time we can consider making her a more permanent member, whether that means making her a legal member of the family or giving her a high position close to us like 'master of whispers'
Also, i have a feeling the uncle may have had a hand to play in the three dead previous Cargill children... especially if they were male heirs. We need to tread very carefully.
>>19848072Remember, we have Jorge carefully sending some of his best men to the wineries we identified, posing as migrant laborers. Hopefully, those men will be finding something worth the time and expense. Caswell said that he might have the first of them back tonight, after dinner.>>19848093After watching your men practice, you give a few stags and encouragement to the better teams, and wish them a good night. You and Terris train in the blade circle, and you show him how to use a blade at a distance, within range, and up close. Unlike Ser Honeyhall, Terris is learning how to fight dirty. The boy is bright, you will give him that.
>>19848140perhaps when the boy has enough skill and if Honeyhall proves stubborn in learning new tactics we should see how they fair against each other? Besides, they are only a few years apart, it's not like a grown man fighting an eight year old.
>>19848162True. Terris is pretty big for a ten year old, and Ser Honeyhall is fifteen. Then again, the difference in muscle mass once you hit puberty really makes a fucking difference.>>19848110After a few hours, you let Terris practice on his own while you chat with Ser Rory. He is happy with how the new men are coming along. "The archers are ready to take the field, ser. They are pretty well prepared for it. As for the infantry? Give them another month, and they will be ready... Any chance more men will be joining us, my lord?"
All right guys, I gotta disappear for like ten minutes. Keep this shit bumped and keep kicking around ideas. I will be back as quick as I can.>Roll 1d100 for Brotherhood shit going down off screen>Roll 4d6 for Caswell's informant/spies successfulness
rolled 97 = 97>>19848258Brotherhood!
rolled 7 = 7>>19848258roll
>>19848209But so does overconfidence, Terris sparring with Honeyhall will be great training for both of them, Honeyhall will learn not to underestimate smaller/weaker opponents if Terris truly learns how to fight like a cunning bastard, and Terris will toughen up pretty quick and learn to strike fast and ruthlessly. I'm not sure what our military needs are right now, srry which page in the book is military units?
rolled 4, 4, 4, 4 = 16>>19848258Rolling for spies
rolled 4, 2, 6, 1 = 13>>19848258dice
rolled 1, 3, 2, 5 = 11>>19848258
rolled 1, 5, 3, 2 = 11>>19848258rollin for spies! come on lady luck!
Sup, I made this.
>>19848283haha, suck on my quad 4's
rolled 5, 4, 5, 2 = 16>>19848293looks pretty good bro, nice contribution
>>19848293And this, now to catch up again.
>>19848279If we really want to disabuse Honeyhall of overconfidence at a smaller opponent we just throw Iylaria at him and laugh at what will inevitably happen.
>>19848313yah, that works better i suppose.
>>19848209In relation to this, if we need another unit i think we should train more archers or infantry, perhaps sailors(depending if we have ships in need of them)? Thoughts?
Anyone else think some cavalry might be a good idea to invest in?
>>19848414I thought about that too, but we're on an island, so the cavalry are stuck on our little strip and we'd have to transport the horses across the straight of redwynne to get to the mainland. potentially a very messy ordeal, especially during storm season. I'd say we should wait until we can expand onto the mainland, then invest in cavalry. I know we want Crusaders eventually, but that will have to wait until the sept is finished and we can reign in some control on them.
>>19848378>>19848414The war is fast approaching, the more we have the better.
That night, while at dinner (fucking baked tuna in sage-infused olive oil on a bed of citrus slices. shit was so cash), we get a letter. One of our garrison received it from a fishing vessel out of Oldtown. Apparently, Montelban and his section of the Brotherhood are setting sail for here on the next full moon (three days). He is bringing fifteen ships with him, and cannot wait to meet with you.
>>19848446Perhaps another infantry unit then. Although I'd like to be able to diversify our forces more, I can understand how the limited use cavalry will get on an island would limit their usefulness.
Went and hunted this down in the archive because we always forget where we are.>>19848414this is why i think Cavalry are a waste of investment right now.
i don't think calvary would be really good, especially on the arbor.Having well trained infantry and archers would be fantastic, since we could garrison cities and defend areas, as well as form defensive lines where enemy forces would smash against our troops.Since we have so few, we probably won't go on any offensive campaigns.I still don't like the idea of crusaders under a religious sept. I would approve of a cathedral and pilgrimages, but not a military authority tied to a religion. At most, we could have a mercenary company that is tied to us or rent out the steel guard/our infantry for soldierly work. I am extremely uncomfortable with a religious military organization or spy network.
>>19848523Bitching, make sure the harbor is ready for them, that we are ready to go on any modifications it needs for his ships and that we have a proper welcome waiting.
>>19848523Fantastic. Make sure we have a warm welcome prepared for him, the markets and harbor in good conditions, and our builders ready in case we need to modify the harbor for his ships.
>>19848523 Cont. This brings us to a very important point. Do we want to encourage this faction of the Brotherhood to settle down into Saltmouth, or do we just want it to be a home base for the traders as they sale back and forth?>Crunch: Do we want passive bonuses to our House Fortune and Wealth rolls (serving as a home base), or do we want a smaller bonus to these rolls, but the immediate construction of a Trader's Guild, cost free, in Saltmouth.
>>19848534Same here, i'm just listing the Crusader's because that was a popular theme in last night's thread, and to see if we still wanted them or not, but personally i advise against them>>19848531If we want to diversify i think we should get a unit of scouts to synergize with our archers and infantry, for forward information gathering and enemy position reports. >>19848548we should also have estimates drawn up incase we need to expand the harbor or dredge it to make it deeper.
>>19848584I'd say we want permanent residency, that was the whole idea in the beginning i think, and with more gold coming in the more we can afford expansion and the spy network we so desperately want.
>>19848584What benefits would the Guild give us?
>>19848584Passive bonus, we're in this for the longterm. We can make a guild for 15 wealth, which isn't that hard for us to accumulate. How much of a bonus to wealth rolls will it grant, and how big a benefit to house fortune?
>>19848523We should be making an inspection to the port and dockyard making plans for any obvious requests Brotherhood will ask like storage space and the like
>>19848620>We can make a guild for 15 wealth, which isn't that hard for us to accumulate. We don't lack wealth in our current state, but we might lack time. The war draws near.
>>19848523Sweet!
>>19848620>>19848619The guild's in the core book were shit and bland, so me and some loo/tg/rabbers invented a whole new table of nearly ten. Same thing for artisans. Also, no buildings have upgrade trees. Because fuck, we want to become AWESOME, not just awesome. Once the file is polished up and formatted to look all nice, I will pastebin that shit.If we serve as their home base, we get a +d6-3 on House Fortune rolls and a +2 to all Wealth rolls. If we insta-build the Trader's Guild, we get a solid +1 bonus on House Fortune and Wealth, along with the ability to, every six months, reroll a House Fortune or Stat roll of our choice.
Shit, from looking at bonuses we should really get a marketplace or Artisan in the near future, Artisan: All weapons count as castle forged, Cover benefits from fortifications increase defense +1, once a month +1 to fortune rolls. Marketplace: each month, whenever a fortune roll would increase wealth add a further +1
>>19848584Passive bonus. We are all about the bonuses. Have we already had his man by to examine our port? Also next two purchases should be a traders guild and then aim for power. People in the thread were origionally interested in getting a banner house. Depending on how this inquest goes what are our chances of earning the right to a banner house?
>>19848533Thanks anon. Let me post the colored-in version. >>19848642We have a little bit of time, don't worry. It won't happen tomorrow or anything. There are still plenty of chances for us to die before Robert's Rebellion even begins, so don't you fret.
>>19848673Hmm, I say go with the insta build of the trader's guild. The ability to reroll a house fourtune or stat is pretty amazing. >>19848676We already have a marketplace.
>>19848673Imo we already have ridiculous fortune rolls, rerolling bad rolls is a great asset and the +1 to fortune and wealth further compounds that.
>>19848584Actually I think the trade guild first, could they move in later?
>>19848673An extra +2 on wealth rolls, that means a +1 becomes 1d6+3, go for that. Remember, we can get the guild bonus ourself, we just can devote some time to it. We can't get the bonus from this being their home base from anywhere else.
>>19848720Hmm, a very good point. Home base sounds great, and its bonus in cash will help us get the Trader's Guild very soon afterwards.
>>19848720Good point, I say go with this, we can build our own Guild in the quite near future.
>>19848720>We can't get the bonus from this being their home base from anywhere else.If that's true, I guess it's better to jump on the occasion.
>>19848680Getting a banner house can be either really easy or really simple. Easy way: Take one of your knights, grant him lands and a few swords, and have him and his wife start fucking. Boom. Banner house formed! Our trouble (right now) is that we don't really have a ton of land.Harder way: Smaller houses that owe fealty directly to House Redwyne or House Tyrell and are nearby? Start making it clear that if they come under your lands (be it through marriage, or just pure politics), it will be better for everyone. Then they pledge fealty to you, and you have a banner house.God-Tier Hard way: Impress Lords Pason or Paxter so much that they delegate authority through you, passing off some of their banners for you, yet still retaining their power indirectly.>>19848676Dont worry bro, we already have both those things.
>>19848720>>19848752>>19848736So am I hearing home base as our choice?
>>19848761We know what we must do.(Spoilersdon'twork/ Kill off the two power hungry dicks that are cursing our huge tracts if land then get the next in succession to bow to us./Spoilersdon'twork)
>>19848761WHY NOT ALL THREE!not immediately, but in the long run. First we should expand our territory so we can create our own banner houses, then get paxter to start relegating power to us
>>19848796That seems to be concensus.
>>19848804You know....Paxter would be pretty much required to delegate some power to him if we were his closest adviser AND his brother in law.
>>19848796Sounds like it!
>>19848818Baller. We are set to fast forward to that point, as nothing else is happening besides usual castle business.>>19848804>>19848801Not the worst plans in the world.>Roll 1d100 for the reception of the Brotherhood!
>>19848801I wonder, if we marry into the Cargill family, can we inherit from the western branch if the son of the Lord of that branch were to meet an untimely death ?

We didn't here back from the spies in the Wineries?
>>19848860>>19848859Between this and the harvest festival Lord Karban will be known as the greatest thrower of festivities and parties the world has ever known.
>>19848856I don't like where this is going... we're already on our way to being a big player in the Arbor, we just gotta decide on sorting through all the deception and bullshit associated with cargill or just work our fucking asses off to prove dalyna we are the pimp she needs.
>>19848848 Roooooooolling
>>19848856If we marry Veronica we get the Easter house, the western house has his own heirs. I really think we should marry Veronica.
>>19848891Well, you did it wrong, but given that we already had the 90 and 91 I'm glad you did.
>>19848884But what if the Cargill bloke tries to kill us off first? I mean then proffessional courtesty states that we must respond in kind lest we appear to view him as beneath our notice our, or are ourselves stupid as hell.
>>19848907Do you remember what happened to the last 3 suitors? Fuck it almost sounds like it'd be easier to impress dalyna than get her mom to like us and not die from assassination attempts at the same time
>>19848907The whole Cargill family seems poisonous. There are strange things afoot there and it might be best not to dip our dick in that melting pot of crazy. I still say we woo Dalyna.
>>19848923well of course we'll kill the old fucker if he tries anything, i'm not saying we'll sit back if he tries to kill us, i'm just saying sure Cargill gives us immediate benefits, but if we marry dalyna, we potentially have the arbor under our thumb being the brother in law to lord paxter.
>>19848927>>19848927Dude, it would be incredibly easy to get the mom to like us.Just keep dropping hints about having kids, and her being a grandmother. A grandmother who gets to play with the babies without cleaning their shit. Just shift her maternal instincts to grandmother instincts. As for the assasination attempts, well I don't know about that.
>>19848938And if anything unfortunate happened to Paxter at some point in the future, who know's what might happen.
>>19848860>>19848859When the small fleet arrives, you have everything prepared. Wagons have been filled with pillows and plush blankets, and filled with kegs of wine and glasses. At the main dock, you stand in full regalia with half of the Steel Guard and a score of the garrison in your house's colors. Hired musicians play trumpets and drums as Montelban comes down the plank to greet you. He, also, dressed to impress: thigh high boots of fine leather, a shirt of Myrish silk with cuffs of lace, and dozens of rings, pins and necklaces dripping in amber, sapphires, and emeralds. He swaggers over, his hand resting on the basket hilt of his cutlass. "My Lord, My Lord... It is good to see you again. And good to see me, no? Come, let us talk about the future of our partnership where there are not so many eager ears."The two of you ride back to the castle, with his minor captains and officers behind, drinking and shouting to the whores and girls of the city. Once inside Castle Salt, as the feast is being readied, the two of you retire to the solar. He is readily accepting of the idea of being based out of Oldtown. "I am not some trader who sits, counting coins. My gold goes to finance my ships, my men, my adventure! I will base my trade fleet from here... Yes. I ask only for a small villa for myself, for which you will be compensated handsomely for, no? I soon plan to sail the Narrow Sea to Braavos, to sell wine and olives for harpoons to hunt the great whales near your frozen island of Skagos. Then I will return, my hold filled with spices, oil, and meat."
>>19848884>we're already on our way to being a big player in the ArborNo, we're doing great for a new lord, but we'll quickly find ourself limited by the size of our holdings if we really want to become a big player.
>>19848951The way I see it, either the mom is having suitors assassinated because she doesn't want her daughters to leave (not as likely), or the cousin is having suitors assassinated because if they never get married he has a decent right to demand their dad's titles, since he has a son to carry on the line.
>>19848927>>19848907No we take the big titted girl next door!Assassins? Were the mother fucking Karban.Talk to her dad, make him keep it a secret, wed her, and aquire huge tracts of lands.Plus we keep it on our turf. That'll make it a bitch to kill us.Were any of the suitors Lords?
>>19848951Agreed, getting the mother to like us would be incredibly easy. We just have to point out that we live next to her husband's lands. I'm sure that she would prefer that rather than having her daughter wed someone on the mainland.
>>19848971note the "on the way"of course i realized that's one of the roadblocks, hence we need a good marriage and to prove the Redwynnes we're the most competent of their sworn houses.
>>19848981I assume they would have to all be lords, since they would become the de facto ruler of those lands.
>>19848990Alright alright, assuming we get the mother to like us, we still have to deal with the old shitter of an uncle, we should inquire as to his health, if he's ailing, we wait, because lord knows his son is an incompetent halfwit if he's 30 and hasn't done anything of renown yet, which makes surviving any assassination attempts or claims to the lordship null.
>>19848998Wealthy merchants and knights sometimes get it, plus they could potentially keep the family name if they were of a lesser birth.
>>19848969"wonderful, i am quite confident you will find your villa quite satisfactory, I look forward to seeing the fruits this arrangement will bare us.
I have been think with our plans to expanding the town to city, the sept and the large castle on the work we should get a stonemasons guild. Just imagine how awesome we can make our castle and sept.
>>19848969Well it seems this meeting went well. I'm still for Dalyna. We stole a kiss from the girl right under her father's nose. We're out to climb to the top of the world, and no big titted local is going to satisfy us.
>>19848877Oh shit. I will get to them right after we talk to Montelban. Good catch man.>>19848981None of them were in charge of their houses, no. But one was the youngest son of Lord Merrywind, which is one of the Redwyne's most powerful bannermen. The second was just a man from House Rowan, of the royal family but never going to inherit unless the entire ruling line was killed off, and the third was in line to inherit the title of Lord Dormer, one of the smallest houses on the Arbor, but held in honor by the Redwyne's as the guardians of Ryamsport's sole land route vulnerable to attack.
>>19848977I half-suspect that Veronica Cargill is behind the murders of her suitors. Her cousin is unlikely to inherit, her uncle is in failing health and if she doesn't get married she can rule her section of the Arbor. The mother could dislike us for any number of reasons, and if my crazed speculation is true she could be trying to keep her daughter from further killing.
>>19849062This is why i still argue against Cargill's, it seems an easy option, but when did Lord Karban ever do anything that was easy?
>>19849116She's a very good actress if she is.
>>19849062>>19849059>>19849057Montelban is incredibly happy with this arrangement. He and his men are going to stay in port for about a week, taking on provisions, making repairs, and getting ready to make the three week sprint to Sunspear, before jumping along the Arm. In that time, your only responsibilities are to keep him and his captains hammered, and stop his men from drinking ALL the booze in town. The villa will need to be completed when he returns though. With the terms agreed upon, the two of you drink a celebratory toast... of five. By the time you go down to dinner, you are feeling pretty good with the world.>Unique Bonus achieved: Trade Fleet! After your dinner, when Montelban goes to inform his captains of his ambitious new plan, you retire to your solar with Caswell and three of his spies. He does his trademark flop, and starts talking. "You know, my lord, this was a dumb plan when we thought of it. It should never have worked.... But it did. And we have news. Real news."
>>19849116well if that would come to happen >>19849068>>19849123we could allways have a small civil war between Redwyne banners, march in, take hold of their capitol and seduce the mistress of the lands and get a night with said big titted local girl none the less, before taking control of the lands.
>>19849149"Even a broken clock is right twice a day, Caswell. What have you found?" say it with a grin.
>>19849154>march into the capitalthat's the dumbest idea ever. lemme tell ya why:- we have maybe 8 ships and 4 units- you don't ever betray your liege lord, EVER because he'll call the banners and have you're head on a pike faster than you can say 'fuck'- seduce the daughter of the liege lord you just betrayed then fuck some other wench right after? man you must get all the ladies and have the most loyal friends in the world.
>>19849215I think he meant having a scuffle with Cargil with the three daughters that suitors get assasined.considering the links, it meant that we should help engineer Victoria becoming the administrator of Cargil lands and then having said scuffle and seizing them.
>>19849184He just grins at that. "So Pete here, he was working with one of my best men, Adrian Hathaway." He indicates a thin, tall man with an angular face and hair cut so close to his scalp that he looks bald. He is wiry, you can tell just by looking at him... The baggy robes of brown and creme he is wearing hide much, but it is clear he can handle himself. "So they were working just up the river from Barrelbridge, one o' the big towns in Merrywind lands. And they seen something pretty remarkable." He stops talking to let Hathaway speak, but mainly to drink his wine. The thin man's voice is oddly cultured... You can't put your finger on it. "We worked the fields for twenty seven days, your lordship. In that time, we didn't see anything. But one night, two days before the harvest was done, I saw a man loading barrels onto a small cart. Wasn't a big one, mind. It was maybe four paces long, with only a single horse to pull it. But it was the man's hands, my lord. He had crabber's brands, from fishing in waters that ain't to be fished in." He lets the rest go unsaid. There is only one place on the Arbor where a man can get that punishment: Clawwater seas.
>>19849282That's still a dumb idea, it ruins our reputation with Redwynne as a cut-throat inciter of violence in his lands. Plus that's not how we roll, we're Karban, epitome of class and chivalry, and we get what we want through charm, skill and manipulation, not flatout murdering a father and then taking a house by might, and if we did go after the eastern branch expect the uncle to intervene as 'self defense' then swoop in and take the title for himself.
>>19849116No, Veronica won't inherit because she's an unmarried woman where do you think we are Dorn? It's most likely the other Cargill branch trying to make sure Veronica and her sisters don't inherit so that the 30 year old guy will inherit the land and reunite both houses again. Personally I don't want to continue pursueing Danyla because I like the idea of getting to the top in a matter of generations due to our own hard work and not because of who we're sleeping with.
>>19849304Did the overseers notice the missing wine. Who was crabber?>>19849334
>>19849355You. I like you. And I agree completely.
>>19849304 Cont.He starts back up again. "That little cart rode out near the hour of the wolf, heading north towards Dary with five men. I followed as best I could, but I was afraid of being caught. BUT I did hear those men talking about taking a barge up-river towards Treebridge, where they would shift the old barrels for new ones, and continue north." He looks around after that. "I am sorry, my lord, but that is all I can remember hearing. They were being quiet, you see, to avoid people noticing them. That's my guess.">Wat do?
>>19849355You weren't paying attention yesterday. Veronica can inherit if neither her uncle nor her cousin do. Given their defects Veronica seems a better choice by far.
>>19849355Exactly. A Karban on the Iron Throne in 5 generations.
>>19849282Also that's dumb. Our biggest asset at the moment is that we're viewed as a talented and loyal retainer to house Redwyne. Why would we throw it away by doing that, when we could just marry Veronica and survive the ensueing assassination attempts? The sad thing is that attempts on our life would be less dangerous. Not to mention that it means we can start making new characters to play on as is Dustain bites it.
>>19849359"No man saw them but me, your lordship. The loaded the casks far into the night, when no one was awake and the guards were elsewhere. How they had the key to the cellar, I don't know. Maybe they moved the barrels during the day, and hid them with the unfired ones? I cannot say for certain."
>>19849402Or you know, one on the throne in 3 generations or less, if we marry Dalyna. We can't get to the throne through Veronica if we're dead from an assassination. We already almost bit the dust in that joust, why push our luck?
>>19849390Treebridge eh? Where is that and who owns it? Do we have any agents around, or an excuse to send some over? And crabbers hands... that means that the Clawwaters might not be involved after all.Lets send Paxter a note that we found some new info. Then lets get to Treebridge. Heck, maybe Paxter will decide to introduce us to some of his friends there...
>>19849355 Veronica won't inherit because she's an unmarried womanGod damn, it how may times most I explain this? She has no brothers so she is the heir of the House. Even if she had 30 uncles and 20 cousins her claim comes even before any of them. Inheritances work like this:1.Sons2.Daughters 3.Brothers4.Nephews5.Uncles In the royal family (AND ONLY IN THE ROYAL FAMILLY) males even brothers or nephews come before females.
>>19849457>>19849402Who cares about our offspring, once we're dead ? We don't.Let's live for ourself.
>>19849457The one that we have no chance of marrying. Because we are already have our loyalty assured to their line (from the huge amount of land he is going to gift us upon his death). It would serve no purpose allowing her to marry us.Considering how the world is, we will be facing assassinations eventually, better to do so now when we can survive them easier.
>>19849469Well, you do have an outstanding invitation to visit Ryamsport now that the harvest is over. Treebridge was a community you passed through on the way to the Tournye of the Vines nearly a month ago... If you go half a day out of your way, you could probably visit the place as you head south. Besides, the overland route to Ryamsport is shorter than the sea route, if only by a few days.As for the crabber brands? Perhaps, perhaps not... Either the Clawwater's are using criminals in this scheme, or that man just did a bit of illegal crabbing in their waters and got caught. Neither of which is entirely beyong the pale.
>>19849507You don't want to rise too far too fast.
>>19849518We have more of a chance than you think. Both Paxter and his father already are fond of us. We are growing more and more prosperous and quickly becoming a very strong house. Think about what >>19849505 said, if we marry Dalyna and Paxter bites the dust, who's got two thumbs and is the new hot shit in the Arbor.
>>19849505That's how it works in the real world. Except Princely confirmed last night that it's NOT the way it's working in this part of this world for the purposes of this game.Yeah.>>19849518I talked about this some three weeks ago. We actually can successfully woo Dalyna if we make ourselves completely indispensable to the family, to the point that they want absolutely no distance between us and them. If we keep building up and expanding at this rate we could manage it in ten years.Obviously something has to be done. Nailing these smugglers is a must, but if we apply what Princely said earlier about the God-tier method of earning a banner house...
>>19849505Note: In Dorn inheritances work the same way expect they disregard the genre and go with the oldest son or Daughter then the oldest brothers or sister and so on.
>>19849505This guy has the correct flow-chart of inheritanceLets focus on what our informant brought to us: What is the game plan guys?
>>19849610Haha wait I'm a moron, >>19849505 is absolutely correct. Disregard.
>>19849505Thanks and sorry for continuously getting that wrong.>>19849532This sounds like a very good plan to me, more diploatic ties and following up on our investigation both are always welcome.
>>19849610Except Princely confirmed last nightWRONG!http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19837339/check post 19841650.
>>19849532Either way, we're making a stopover. Let's wait until Ben gets back and send a Raven to Paxter.
>>19849645Better inform Portain, then maybe talk to the Merrywinds so we can disassemble the whole operation in the sea and the land. We should seriously make plans to raid the smugglers hideout where Davos told us.
Also Paxter is the lord Ser Flowers is sworn to correct? Then all the better to appear and mention that we're going to be devoting a corner of our new Sept to the Stranger. Princely you mentioned that we're now scarred, how bad is it? I mean do we now get a flaw for having a disfiguring scar from what we survived or is it more an awsome scar that just shows our luck?
>>19849532If we hurry to Treebridge we might be beat the smugglers there. Pen a quick raven to both Ben and Paxter. Let Ben know where you are going and if he is finished soon he should join you there. Inform Paxter that you are taking him up on the offer to go to Ryamsport and when you estimate to arrive. In fact we might want to send a note to Portain as well, inquiring if he might wish to meet us at Treebridge (or another place along the route)
I would inform the other house, but only to half the ships/men we send. Send more in different areas, to wait at your signal in case any operation goes awry. Perhaps clawwater is trying to enhance their own riches illegally? They would be idiots to use one of their own criminals, but perhaps they spared him the wall/execution by doing this for him.If done correctly, if the clawwaters are innocent they will never know, if the clawwaters are liars then we will have the swords to oppose them, bring them to justice, earn more of the Lord's favor and possibly earn part of their lands, or at least their banners.
>>19849719Our scar isn't too bad... I mean, right now it is. But as our hair grows back and our head heals, it should cover up nicely. As for Ser Flowers? No, he is part of Lord Portain's guard and has been in his service for nearly two decades.>>19849733>>19849709Beating the smugglers would be really damn tricky. But investigating the town would be a really good idea. Ben should be back within two or three days, so you could even wait for him while the ravens fly.Currently, our mailing list is Lord Portain and Lord Paxter.
>>19849850Any chance you can add the Clawwater's lands to that handy dandy map you posted >>19848694Wait for Ben but prepare the Steel Guard to leave. Before we leave we need to make sure the villa is being built.
>>19849850
>>19849939
>>19849894I will get around to it shortly, it takes a while to do art projects while running this. For the Villa, it is going to cost us a minimum of two wealth and at most five wealth. How much should we allocate?Meanwhile, the Steel Guard prepares to ride, and ride fast. Coyle pens a letter to Lord Paxter, that doesn't have any sensitive info in it, but it will let him know that you are on your way. Meanwhile, another raven will be sent to Lord Portain, letting him know what you have learned.
>>19849992What's the variance? More wealth makes us look more generous? I think we've only got five wealth left...I suggest three or four.
>>19850014We have seven, currently.
>>19849992I suggest four wealth that way we appear gracious while at the same time leaving the ability for him to make any changes he deems sufficent.
>>19849992Aren't we getting compensated for the Villa? If so I'd say use up 5 wealth on the villa. We can show him how generous we are while virtually losing only short term money, to be repayed when he comes back into town.
I vote for using 4 wealth for the Villa as well.
>>19849992I say 5 wealth, it's one hell of an investment, but it means Montelban will love this place even more and route as much as possible through here, and it might convince Ghand and Tarlosa to relocate here. Go all out.
I couldn't get the checkered background, so I made it quarterly.>>19850094Me too. 4 is good enough.
>>19850105>>19850079I agree with these two, we can lose 5 short term and still have 2, which is quite a great deal anyway. Unless we need more for the sept or something.
We have three votes for 4, and two for 5. Should I close voting?
>>19850149If we get compensated I change my vote to 5.
>>19849992Make him a damn mansion, 5 wealth. If he starts bragging to the other two who didn't decide to come to our city perhaps they will change their minds.
That changes it to four votes for 5, and two for 4.>Roll that d6 to see how long this takes.
>>19850149I already voted for 5, but I would note to the people saying 4 that with the new bonuses that come in from Montelban that a single +1 bonus to wealth now becomes 1d6+3, this is on average 6.5, we can make it back in a month. This guy just got us +2 wealth every month if not more, we should go all out.
rolled 6 = 6>>19850173Rollin
rolled 4 = 4>>19850173
rolled 2 = 2>>19850173Rollan.
>>19850192NOPE NO MORE
>>19850192>>19850149With all the building we are going we seriously need that stonemasons guild.
>>19850241The time for that has passed, wait until next season. We have much more to expand on then, but for now these projects already require money. If we were clairvoyant we would have seen this, but for now we can only see the need in the future. Better to highly impress our newest form of income than to throw money at another project, since we're already fairly tasked out.
>>19850241Don't worry, we should easily get the money for that in a few months if we want one then.
In four months, the villa is estimated to be complete. Coyle will be going all out on the purchase orders. We are talking the full deal: copper, silver, gold, stained glass. It is going to be a fucking monstrosity. Two days later, Ben sails into port on the deck of a Pentosi merchantmen with two hundred oars. He is at the castle within minutes, and in your solar barely a breath afterwards. His only words, before you begin to talk for several hours, are "What have I missed?" By the time you are done, he is deep in thought. ".....So I assume we ride for Treebridge at first light?"
>>19850375Well give Ben a bear hug to welcome him back, we've missed him and his bonus to house fortune rolls. That's the plan, it won't even look that odd as it's pretty much on the way.
>>19850241I still vote for growing wealth and power,at least power until we have a bit above 20 once there switch power to population.
>>19850375Ben is our bro, ask him how training went, how he liked seeing oldtown. He's our maester, and sworn to our service, but he's a human being all the same.
>>19850407This, also ask him if he had heard any tales of this Mad Maester as folk lore as opposed to a person.
>>19850442He shows off the new link of blued steel. "It wasn't as hard to remember the old routine. Four months is nothing for a link, nothing at all. I am happy to be back, my lord."You talk about much and more late into the night. But in the morning, you know you must ride south.
>>19850600In the morning we should reintroduce Terris to Ben, tell him that Ben will be covering a fair bit of his education in various fields. Tell Terris that if he's interested in a subject to ask Ben about it, he ought to be able to help.
>>19850600Ask him what ass we should tap.
>>19850480He has. It is an old story, maybe a hundred and fifty years old, perhaps more. "It has no basis in fact, my lord. The house that the maester supposedly served is actually from the Westerlands, and never once had any of its blood in the Arbor. But if it is being used as a glamour, a guise... That is clever. Very clever."
>>19850656When he hears of the Cargill girl, he smiles. "The one with the great big tits? HA!" After an appropriate amount of laughing, that conversation turns serious. "I doubt Lord Redwyne, despite the favor he looks upon you with and the love of his son.... He granted you these lands, and shows you favor far beyond what your current station should suggest. The hand of his daughter is too valuable to waste on a man that is already firmly in his service. But perhaps I am wrong... I have been a maester for too long, and celibacy warps the mind when it comes to women."
>>19850777Do you have any suggestions on how we might go about changing Lord Redwyne's mind?
>>19850824"Rebellion? And then he would just mount your head on a spike. In all honesty, my lord. I cannot imagine any way under the Seven that the fair Lady Dalyna would be pledged as your wife.
Look guys, we're not going to marry into the redwynes. Liege lords do not marry to their subjects, think of it. Their daughters are used for alliances, treaties, etc. We are neither powerful enough to placate nor deserved (or powerful) enough to marry his daughter. This is the truth of it. We need to marry the cargill eldest daughter, who is a buxom, pretty woman with large tracts of land. We will pass the trial of assassination and win, and promote our heirs to a higher status.
>>19850850Perhaps I should start becoming friendly with that giant of a man I unseated. Robert Baratheon. He seemed like a good man. That might make Lord Redwyne take a second look at me.
>>19850850There the voice of reason at last now let us focus on those huge tracks of land.
>>19850876An alternative would be to find that Hot Dornish Wife that we've been craving since the very first thread.
>>19850913Although I originally voted for hot dornish wife, with the bad blood between the two we should look close to home and adjacent to our lands. The only better chance would be to get some lands on the mainland, and we have not been presented the chance. But this girl has huge tits, attractive and is obviously enamored of our charismatic self. What more can one strong, clever man ask?
Are we ready to move onto the journey? The discussion of HDW/Dalyna/Veronica can continue, btw. But are we ready to proceed south now?
>>19850945Well the assassinations are a downside, and her mother hates us. But we can work on those. I do agree on "Great Tracts of Land".
Princely is a Champion, running this solid session of GoT Quest.>>19850945I agree. After all, Great Tracts of Land.We do need to investigate the suspicious circumstances of her suitors. Try to get Lady Cargill on our side.
>>19850876This man speaks wisdom, listen to him. With that I bid you good evening.
>>19850945This everyone close to us has said the same. Veronica is the best girl.
>>19850965Lets head south. Also guys I just ask that we don't make up our minds yet. We haven't heard back from ANYONE yet about us looking for a bride. We are young and about to go to our liege lord's house, let's cool down the marriage vibe and just swag it up.
>>19850965Let's do it. Sorry DM, picking a wife seems to be a big journey in a lord's life, and all.
>>19850965I believe so, let Ben and Terris talk a fair bit during the journey so that Ben can instill a proper respect for the scholarly arts. We want Terris to be not only a badass warrior but a knight of intellect and cunning.
>>19850876Although Veronica is probably the best choice if her father up and dies before her bitter old uncle that could end up being one hell of a rivalry. At least with pretty much any other woman (Dalyana, HDW, nameless blond lass from the mainland) we can still be total bros with everyone on the arbor minus the clawwaters.>>19850965South! For adventure, fellowship, and bosoms!
Think about this song from the perspective of Veronica, from the perspective of her mother.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7cPF9UQ15kJust wanted to add a little atmosphere. She's been through a lot, no matter the root of her cause. Love the poor girl.
>>19850979>>19851001>>19851009You resolve to keep your ears open in this matter. However, after breaking your fast in the wee hours of the morning, your party rides south. It is composed of the Steel Guard, Terris, Ben, and Ser Honeyhall.Your party rides hard, as you have much and more important news to bring your lord. >Roll 1d100 for traveling conditions and speed.
rolled 42 = 42>>19851080Travelling!
rolled 38 = 38>>19851080Godspeed
>>19851056You don't think we wouldn't make enemies if we married Dalyana? I think if anything our enemies might be a lot more powerful than the bitter old uncle.
would it be considered incredibly rude for us to invite Robert Baratheon to our humble town? He seemed like a bro. Also Ben mentioned a rebellion, subtle hint on how to win Dalyna's hand perhaps?
rolled 50 = 50>>19851105More like an easy way to get our head on a spike.
rolled 61 = 61>>19851100Might be better if we ask to visit Robert Baratheon, instead of him coming here. He is a high lord and we are small, after all.
>>19851122I like that idea. I like that idea a lot actually.
You ride south at fair speed. The weather turns cold and gloomy, an eastern wind blowing storm clouds off the sea. The wind is cold and damp, and camping in the fields and copses is an uncomfortable affair. However, you reach Treebridge within six days. The village is named for the bridge that naturally formed from a massive fallen oak. The tree was simply carved and shaped to accept travelers, although just fifty meters upstream there is a stone bridge for trader's wagons and heavier loads. The town has a population of around six hundred, several inns, and miles and miles of farms around it. Several small river boats and barges are tied to a small dock near one of the inns, and the place seems quiet and orderly.>Wat to do first?
>>19851122>>19851135Let us wait until we get our thing in order back home.
>>19851142Before we enter the town we should have our best men at finding information break off and arrive separately. The main party should head towards the nicest inn. The information gatherers should slum around a bit and make sure they arrive well after we do.
>>19851142OK first thing first, Identify any ships from Clawwater or that have been in their waters but remain inconspicuous. Who is the local lord?
>>19851161Agreed.
rolled 95 = 95>>19851142Camp at treebridge, to see if we have enemies laying about. Have the guard brought with camp in a small group within sight of either bridge, with torches and full tents but have the majority of the men waiting in the gloom outside, two pulling watch while the rest sit in full mail. The steel guard and yourself stay in chainmail as well, waiting to horse and reinforce whichever side draws fire with a small reserve.
>>19851142We don't want the people gathering information for us to be associated with us, so split them off. We'll stay at a nice inn and they'll slum it, we'll give them something later to make up for it. We'll want at least one of the info gatherers to be at the inn near the dock as we know that's how it got transported. We'll want them to look into the trade and storage here, especially the river trade.
>>19851177>>19851161Brown Tim slips ahead after leaving his horse with you guys. He leaves his swords as well, and drags his cloak around in the dust. You give him a thirty minute head start.>>19851181This is pretty far inland, and the river isn't deep enough for serious shipping. Think maybe thirty feet wide and twelve deep? It is on the border of wine country, so the rivers are small but numerous. Mostly, these folks grow food to feed the staff of the wineries.
To everyone trying to get married to Veronica or even Daly, you should remember that in the grand scheme of things we have barely started this quest. We only get once chance to marry unless the bitch dies. The war is about to start. (If we distinguish ourselves during we could marry someone even more important than Dalyna)Just unhorsed Robert fucking Baratheon(which will get the bitches beating down our castle gates once word gets out).Took a lance through the face and stayed on our horse(see above). Also HDW. (If it's someone connected to Dorne's wine markets we could turn into the wine baron of Westeros)Just give it time.
>>19851227 I don't like to metagame.
>>19851227However, keep in mind that we do not have an heir. What if we were to die in the rebellion, for example? And about that lance, didin't that also almost kill us?
Riding into town, we send Ser Crane, Reff, and Ben secure you all the rooms in a small in near the well in the center of town. While you and some of your guys settle in, you disperse Iylaria and Gray Thom to go start listening.>Wat do first?
>>19851263Who said that even if we have an heir that the game will continue upon our death? I'm assuming its a 1 life kinda quest
>>19851263This man makes a point. We need to get breeding.>>19851259I agree, for now we should act under the impression it simply the muttering of unrest on the mainland and unlikely to become serious or worse concern us. And given the Redwyne's sided against Robert, we probably don't want to continue to be connected to him after the rebellion starts picking up anyway. Actually, unhorsing him will probably make great propaganda.
>>19851291Walk the town some, mingle with people, get a feel for this place's economic prosperity. If it seems excessive it could suggest that the illegal wine shipping is often routed through here.
>>19851292Dying without a heir is like failing our duty to protect our land.
>>19851259Even without the meta knowledge of the war, the rest of the points are still valid, and there's more points in favor to taking our time to get married.Like the fact we pumped two peasants with our supersperm.
>>19851227>If we distinguish ourselves duringI don't think we could distinguish ourself without an army. Our own strength and ability with weapons isn't that good, and won't get us anything anyway.Maybe a daring, audacious and successful plan to tip the balance of some battle could do, but not if we're not the one to carry it out, and we'll lack manpower of our own in most situations.
>>19851381Agreed, there is no reason to rush into marriage right now. We still haven't heard back from the rumors we let spread of how we are seeking a wife. Lets get a few more options before we settle down.
You walk the town. It is a sleepy little place, like most of the Arbor (well, the parts back from the water) is. People seem well enough, and they look quite confident and safe. Then again, they are on Redwyne land and protected well. None of the places look overly wealthy. Your men kind of scatter, both to purchase new supplies (Doros wants some apples for the ride, stuff like that) and to see what there is to be found. >Roll 1d100 to see what you uncover.

Walking along the river, you purchase an apple from a young girl who blushes and runs off when you thank her, and keep your eyes open. Passing the riverside inn, you spot something interesting near the wood pile. Fishing around, you pull out a flat, circular disk of wood. One side is charred, and you can see sealant on the rim. It takes you half a second to place this: it is the top of a wine cask. Digging into the pile (thank the Gods you still have your riding gloves with you), you turn up nearly forty pieces of slightly-curved wood. These are bits of barrels and casks. Someone has been breaking down wine casks, and hiding the refuse in the wood pile. You almost don't hear the man coming up behind you."Hey! What do you think your doing?"
>>19851534I dropped something, I was just picking it up.
>>19851569The lie slips off your lips easily.>Roll 4d6 to sell the lie.
Would it be possible to set Ser Crane up with Bella if people absolutely must try and get in on that power struggle? She obviously digs him.

>>19851588It could be, yeah. I mean, he is a good looking guy. And the daughter is clearly into him (remember the kiss?).>>19851592I straight up lawled. Nice job.He looks at you suspiciously. "... What are you doing back here? Whatchu looking for?" Considering he can only see your back and shoulder, he might not know who you are. Meanwhile, you examine the man. Maybe thirty and five, he is hairy and well muscled, with a great bushy beard. He is wearing an ale-stained jerkin of poor leather over cheap clothing of brown linens. In his left hand is a wooden mallet, which he is gripping so tight his knuckles are white.
>>19851652What do you care? Bugger off and let me piss on peace.
>>19851652I don't know what to do here. Confront him, interrogate him thoroughly on his involvement or something else?
>>19851723>>19851710There are drastically different ideas. Do we tell him to fuck off? Do we beat his ass and get information out of him? Do we buy him off? Scare him?
>>19851723Get away without him knowing who we are
>>19851741Confront him.
>>19851761Why? It seems like he knows whats up here and he's already pretty tense. A bit of rough treatment might get the damning evidence we need.
>>19851652Memorize his face, don't reveal who we are, we'll have one of our people check him out later, rough him up for information. If we confront him right now it might come out that we're the one doing it instead of it possibly looking like some interested third party.
>>19851779I agree, repress these smallfolk.
Three to two, in favor of kicking ass. Cast your votes now.
>>19851805Lie and get away without revealing who we are.
>>19851805WE don't take shit for no one.
It is all tied up right now. I will be back in ten minutes. I gotta walk down to the corner to grab more beer. Be back soon. Also, i am going to need a 1d100 and 4d6 to see the effectiveness of your folks as they move through the town, watching and listening.

rolled 4, 5, 3, 3 = 15>>19851843We should remember to always have one of our steel guard with us. For this kind of situations. Also I say conform him even if this get out we are just a lord putting a peasant in place. Not one investigating something.
rolled 6, 3, 6, 5 = 20>>19851843rollan
>>19851790>>19851805I switch to leaving off, but have a couple of our guys follow him and continue this later.
Definitely very suspicious that they're destroying the barrels, sometimes they're worth more than the wine inside them.
You turn over your shoulder again as you hurriedly unbuckle your pants. "Can't a man piss, or are you above my station, ser?" That seems to stagger him for a minute, and once you start pissing, he just kind of slumps off. "Pardon me, m'lord. I didn't know it was a man such as yourself." He then slinks away, looking for all the world like a whipped dog. Finishing your piss, you head out onto the street. You can see the man heading towards a the door to the inn near the water. Reff sees you coming out, and when you nod at the man, he gets the idea without a word having to be used. He follows the man into the inn, keeping his cloak up around his head and his features in shadow.Retiring to your rooms, you converse with Ben, Ser Crane, and Iylaria. It turns out that the rest of your boys weren't just slacking off. 'Ol Nick found nearly thirty copper bands near the blacksmiths, hanging on loops and ready to be melted down. The blacksmith looked too suspicious to question safely, but he did have maybe ten or twelve copper ingots near the smelter out back. Iylaria and Ser Bushy found a few scraps of wood that resemble yours in a river barge. And Ben saw some suspicious men near a small house on the outskirts of town, on the opposite side of the river.
>>19852137So far it looks like this town is a center of operations, probably not the only one or the major one, but wine is collected and distributed here. Excellent, we have found a lead.
>>19852231Potentially. So we have multiple leads that we can investigate once the sun goes down.>The shady riverside inn>The river barge>The man who yelled at you>The house out near the towns edge
>>19852307The riverside inn is potentially where much of the operation is based. We should have a few people check out the man who yelled at us, he ought to know about the dismantling of the barrels and so on. The captain of the barge might know more, and if there's stuff in the hold that is lots of evidence right there. The house at towns edge should probably be investigated by multiple people as it looks like the most dangerous. Given that staying for too long would be odd and that they might bug out if they catch wind of stuff we want to get as many of these crossed off as possible tonight.
>>19852307The guy who disturbed our piss should be first. He seemed the most nervous and vulnerable, so he will be the most likely to divulge information. Then we can act on what we find out.
>>19852415>>19852411So it seems that the inn is the big first stop. The man who disturbed us should still be there, with Reff watching him. It also has access to the river, which would let you move quickly and silently.Any objections?
>>19852415>>19852411>>19852307Have him follow and then capture without anyone knowing otherwise. One man disappearing will not raise much suspicion than new people asking question on the inn.
So raid the inn or abduct the guy?
>>19852546Abduct the guy, we can raid an inn in someone else's lands. Who is the local lord anyway?
>>19852546Abduct him for now, we'll see what we can get out of him, then if we need more we'll do simultaneous raids of the Inn, the mysterious house, and the barge.
>>19852569Local lord would be the Cavills, who are maybe two days ride to the east. However, this isn't really "their" land. They just watch it for the Redwyne's and maintain a holdfast for them.Stepping inside the inn, you see Reff slinking in the corner, carefully watching Mr. Rude get himself more and more drunk.>How to take him? >Beat his ass, black bag him and run?>Make it clear that shit is about to go down so that everyone leaves, and then interrogate him?>Just kill everyone?
>>19852673Let him drink a bit more, have Reff be friendly and take him outside, ostensibly to take a piss, looking like two tavern goers enjoying themselves, then we bag him and get him elsewhere.
>>19852546Abduct the guy. Raiding the inn sounds like it will get us in a shitload of trouble.
>>19852696You, Iylaria, and Brown Tim drift into a booth, and set to drinking. Reff just continues to be a shadow on the wall. Eventually, Mr. Rude gets up with a buddy to piss.Waiting a brief moment, the group follows him out. You can see the two guys by a shed, pissing and talking at max volume. >How do you play this?
>>19852805wait to see if they separate, if not, do we give some coin to the one friend for a round and tell him we need to talk business with his friend?
Get one of your men to investigate the loud men.
>>19852805Watch for a moment longer, see if the two are going to be returning together. If not than we give the buddy some cash to bugger off and tell Mr. Rude that we have some business to discuss with him. He ought to be convinced by the large dangerous looking people in front of him.
You and your group just slink around in the shadows, waiting for a moment. Eventually, his friend wanders off to go find another friend. Mr. Rude is still pissing, and holding himself up by the wall. Iylaria heads his way...
>>19852897blackbag him, we'll take this somewhere more private... perhaps the woods or a stable? Definitely not the Inn.
>>19852911Why not our ship no one is going in there without our say.
>>19852937we rode here... we didn't sail.
>>19852897 Cont. She slides up next to him, and you can just imagine the smoky voice and fluttery eyes. She slides a hand around his front, making sure he is only paying attention to her. Tim is holding in a laugh... He already knows how this is going to go. The drunk moves his hand to grab his shoulder. It happens in about two seconds. She slams a fist into his throat, before driving a knee into his groin and a spinning kick into the side of his skull. Rushing over, Reff asks if the whole plan was to kill him, because he could have done that himself. You tell him to shut up, and help Brown Tim pull the man into the shadows, before bundling him up and hiding him in the shed.>How will we extract information?
waterboarding
>>19853041after he sobers up
>>19853041As someone who WAS waterboarded during training, can we not do that as an initial step? That stuff, if done by people who know what their doing, is fucking brutal.
>>19853063well we could try bribery first.
>>19853063or just put a cloth on his face and poor water, it simulates drowning just as well as waterboarding.
We're autosaging and are on page 6.
>>19853108Fuck. Lemme deploy the lifeboats, kiddies. Keep talking about what out plan should be.
>>19853082We should try this, get as much information as we can, but after that if he disappears they'll know we're onto them, perhaps we should keep him as an insider? In return we'll... reduce the severity of his punishment? IE promise acquittal then give him the Wall or the Block after. Or maybe I'm just an evil bastard.
>>19853017Lets start with being polite, he already knows we're scary as hell. Maybe even provide incentive in the form of money. We'll torture him if need be later.
>>19853063SERE? If so, hello to you brother. No ranks, no branches, no names, but it is a good method of getting info.
>>19853151Lifeboat is launched folks, get in there guys.
>>19853063Really? Wow.Let's just stick with the regular roughing up for now.
