The year is 2025, and the new year isn't far away.
Your name is Dave Davis Davidson, and you didn't ask for this.
After getting hit by a car and falling into a coma for three months, you awoke with a prototype implant- one implanted by Emulsified Electronics, a rather small corporation. You were an employee there for some time, and over a long, complicated series of events, you and yours destroyed two other corporations- Cadmium Dynamics, and ArmaTek Paramilitary. Soon after, a terrorist group named Resurgence sprung up, and started taking action against EE and it's partner corp, Kawasagi Infinite. After stealing one of Resurgence's facilities, you talked the group's leader into disbanding. Surprisingly, it worked, and since then, you've been enjoying a reprieve. After visiting your parents in New York with your girlfriend, you were met by a van, full of dark-clothed men.

Which brings you up to now.
"Dave Davis Davidson." One of the men say. "Future-Van Co. needs your help."
"What's the plan, Dave?" Amy asks, and gripped a small, wickedly curved dagger on her hip. You know from experience that it's monomolecular. Her augmented, robotic legs whirr, ready to move. You check your own equipment, and it's all there and ready.

aw shit, mah nigga!
ONLY IF YOU PROMISE TO GIVE US A SHITTON OF THE ATOMIC GOOP
>>
"Perhaps." You say. "But we want a shitton of atomic goop."
"Atomic goop?" The man asks, somewhat confused. He was wearing a small viewscreen over one eye, apparently reading something. "That's acceptable." He said.
"Amy Tolstoy." The man says, a hand on his chin. "The daughter of a writer and a lingerie model, and a mercenary for the past six years. Worked for Emulsified Electronics for a short time. A genius with plasma and power core technology."
"What exactly do you want?" You ask. "Yes, yes, you know everything about us. Get to the point."
"One of our digsites have gone haywire." He said. "The AI onboard the facility has gone mad, and we know that you have the greatest chance of disabling it without causing much damage. There's a catch, though."
"What catch?" You ask.
". . .It's on Mars."
>>
>>19846317
"Mars."
>>
>>19846317
Are the Raven capable of spaceflight? I want us to have redundant transport systems anyways. Don't want us to be stuck on Mars because one of them is damaged. If they provide those transports I see no problem.
>>
>>19846317
"Cool, I've always wanted to go to space.

... I do get a return ticket, right?"
>>
>>19846317
"Talos, get my bags ready. We do have bags right Amy?"
>>
"Mars."
"Yes, mars." He said.
"Why would you have a digsite on mars?" Amy asked.
". . Our VP thought it would be cool, so he paid out of pocket." The man said, and shrugged. "But then we found alien technology there, so I suppose it was rather useful."
"What." Amy said, blinking.
"Well, you don't think CD came up with power shields on their own, did you?"
"Cool." You say. "I've always wanted to go to space."
"Good to hear." He said. "Climb in, you two, and we'll bring you to our superiors. They'll be able to explain."
<Talos, get my bags ready.> You tell the AI.
<On it, sir.> Comes the response.
"Are the Ravens capable of spaceflight?" You ask Amy. She shakes her head.
"For the most part, yeah, but the cosmic radiation would cook you alive." She said.
>>
You climb into the van, Amy sitting next to you, and the two of you look around.
"This is a rather nice van." Amy says. You notice that she's still hanging on to the hilt of that mono-dagger.
"It's what we do." The man says, and he taps the back of the driver's chair. The van takes off, careening down the street.
"Is that the Chrysler Building?" Amy asked, and the man nodded. The driver screeched to a stop, and they led you into the building.

"Good day." A young man said- he had twinkling green eyes, roguish good looks, and he was quite unshaven. The room you were in was rather small, but you notice that there's very little electronics in the room- just a projector, and a small RFID chip inside the man's skull. "My name is Gareth Hester. I am the VP of Future-Van Co, and I'd like to thank you for coming all this way. No doubt, you have questions."
>>
>>19846418
"We could always use power shielding to keep from going pop like an overstuffed chicken in a microwave. Or radiation-absorbing material; solar collecting cells, maybe?"

>>19846514
"Yeah, no, not really. For you, this is a crisis that threatens to wipe out all your personal assets and possibly your company because of frivolous spending on secret space-age development. Shoddy development. For me? It's Tuesday. Nice tinted contact lenses, by the way. Why do you have a colony on Mars that no one knows about and how exactly has the AI manager gone crazy?"
>>
>>19846514
>Gareth
Already I'm wary of the man. Perhaps we should feed him his face.

"So, atomic goop, how big of a discount do I get?"
>>
>Gareth
Expecting us not to meta, oh exa, you so silly, and if he IS perfectly trustworthy, why would you name him Gareth....T.T
>>
"Yeah, no, not really." You say. "For you, this is a crisis that threatens to wipe out all your personal assets and possibly your company because of frivolous spending on secret space-age development. Shoddy development. For me? It's Tuesday. Nice tinted contact lenses, by the way. Why do you have a colony on Mars that no one knows about and how exactly has the AI manager gone crazy?"
"The colony isn't exactly secret, we just... never let the media get ahold of it." He said, and flicked on the projector. You see a dusty, foggy facility, covered in brown dust. "And the manager's gone crazy because we programmed it to keep anything we dig up completely secret. Apparently, it dug up something, and proceeded to try to kill everything and everyone who could theoretically learn the secret. With auto turrets."

"We could always use power shielding to keep from going pop like an overstuffed chicken in a microwave. Or radiation absorbing material; solar collecting cells, maybe?"
"Maybe." Amy said. "I'd just need to redo the hulls on the ravens. Easy, with those drones we have in Valhalla."
You shrug. "So, Atomic goop. How big of a discount do I get?"
"Well..." He said. "Seventy-five percent."
"This is space, Mr. Gareth. You can't just expect us to run out there happily." Amy said.
". . Seventy-Five percent, and we'll give you a bonus of the stuff. A ton." He said.
>>
>>19846635
Payment for a highly dangerous mission on another planet? A discount.

>How shitty.
>>
>>19846635
"Excellent. Now, I have another question. Why did you program an AI with a highly specific law, with no exceptions or specificity whatsoever? Just "keep shit secret?" And no modified three laws-esque clause about your employees? Seriously. Not smart. AI's inherently have one-track minds, and if you narrow that even further with poor programming someone's going to get hurt. How much firepower does the base have? Small arms, or am I going to have to run a gauntlet of anti-ship defense guns?"
>>
>>19846635
You shall modify our Ravens for spaceflight, upgrade our augments to act as enclosed environments (SCIENCE, I don't have to explain shit), And give us the shit ton of atomic goop for free.

And apply the discount to any future purchases.
>>
"Excellent." you say. "Now, I have another question. Why did you program an AI with a highly specific law, with no exceptions or specificity whatsoever? Just "keep shit secret?" And no modified three laws-esque clause about your employees? Seriously. Not smart. Small arms, or am I going to have to run a gauntlet of anti-ship defense guns?"
"We.. We just make vans." He said, and sighed. "Our technicians aren't very clever. The base has quite a bit of firepower." He said, showing you the facility on the projector. "It has several short-range railguns, and a few gauss cannons. The entire thing is power shielded, but it isn't designed for combat- it's designed to keep the atmosphere in." He said. "It's mostly small arms."
"This doesn't look nearly as bad as Valhalla was." Amy said.
"We didn't expect any real combat... we just figured, why not. If we're going to build a base on mars, we might as well give it weapons and an AI." He said, and frowned.
>>
>>19846680
A discount on some very expensive which we will need quite a lot of. Actually I would prefer a way to produce the stuff ourself. Could they help us with that instead?
>>
>>19846752
"The next logical step in FutureVanCo's development would've been to make space vans when you ventured into space. Not make Martian colonies and start digging up dangerous technological artifacts and who knows what else. Sidenote; Amy, can you see about trademarking Space Van™? It's not a bad idea. Anything else I should know about the base?"
>>
>>19846752
Well maybe you should have upgraded the weapons systems when you discovered alium techno there.

I must say, though, that your poor planningu has made for a seemingly easy mission. Will there be any pay besides "Atomic Goo Discounto"

I'm just saying because a discount isn't much of a pay. We should really be recieving something here besides a promise.
>>
"Well, maybe you should have upgraded the weapons systems when you discovered Alium technology there."
"Alium?" Amy asks.
"I must say, though, that your poor planning has made for a seemingly easy mission. Will there be any pay besides the discount? Because a discount isn't much of a pay- we should really be recieving something here besides a promise."
He gulped, and nodded. "Of course. We can spare two hundred thousand credits, or that much in nano-meta."
"Nano-meta?"
"The atomic goop's 'official' name." Amy says.

"Will you help us to modify our ravens for spaceflight?" You ask, and he nods.
"We have several autonomous production facilities in the city, so you can use them." He said.

"Is there anything else I should know about the base?"
"Well. . . There's apparently some highly advanced alien technology that we don't understand." He said. "At least, if the AI is going haywire over it, it has to be something major."
>>
>>19846763
Yeah, Fuck You.

If this guy has enough money to privately fund a space colony, He has enough money for actual payment, Like one ton of Goo for free.

It's really shitty that WE are paying him to do a mission for him. A discount would be cool if it was in addition to some kind of actual payment, but just a discount is super shitty.
>>
>>19846875
>Oh I thought We found Alium music.

Are there any upgrades Amy or I need to survive the vacuum of space or the environment of Mars?

Some kind of augment to create a closed, self-sustaining environment? I assume this will be provided by you for free as well?
>>
>>19846936
>SCIENCE I don't have to explain shit.
>also, inb4 poople who can't into sarcastic greentext.
>>
>>19846875
"What do you know so far about the technology discovered?"
>>
>>19846882
>actual payment, Like one ton of Goo for free.
>>19846635
>and we'll give you a bonus of the stuff. A ton.

Seems your wish is already fullfilled.
>>
>>19846875
Before any deals are settled, lets make sure to have all payments laid out, and everything that is expected of us. Clearly and concisely. Preferably in a bulleted list, and displayed on a power point. (do they have power point presentations in the near future?)
>>
"Are there any upgrades Amy or I need to survive the vacuum of space, or the environment of Mars?" You ask.
"Daaaave." Amy said. "Look at yourself- you're wearing a massive, airtight power suit. You'll be fine." She said. "I'm coming with, though, so I'll need to make something for myself."
"Well, we do have several power shield designs, specifically made to emulate earth conditions." He said. "We've extensively tested it, and it works in the vacuum of space."
"I presume this will be provided by you for free as well?"
"Certainly." He said. He seemed to have given up on saving any money for this endeavor.
"What do you know so far about the technology discovered?"
"We've discovered a few artifacts." He said. "The power shields were the main one- and it was something we could understand. Then there were a few smaller artifacts. . Ones we still don't understand. One of them went missing some time ago, however."
>>
>>19847020
heh, I assume that's the teleporter thing we have, heh
"Well it seems everything is in order then. I'll leave it to Amy to set up the designs, you to get everything in order at your production facility and I'll do the heavy lifting, as per usual."
>>
>>19847020
"Could always have Amy take a look at those for you. She's got a way around this sort of thing. But that last one, it went missing... How? Stolen?"
>>
>>19847002
...How did I not read the last two sentences of that?

>Alcohol.

>>19847020
So our suit already has one of those things? I still expect two. Might the Aliums have returned to get their artifacts? Or what if a different version of you from a different dimension came to steal it so he could take over the world in his dimension?

>You can ignore the meta at the end, but really Exabyte?
>Garteh finding artifacts?
>When's the first crux?
>>
"Could always have amy take a look at those for you." You say. "She's got a way around this sort of thing. But that last one, it went missing... how? Stolen?"
"We have no idea." He said. "It just vanished."
"So. Let's get this straight." You say. "What exactly are we getting, and what exactly do you want us to do?"
"We're giving you a 75% discount on any nano-meta purchases you or Miss Tolstoy make- A fourth off- and then we're giving you a bonus of two hundred thousand credits, a surplus of nano-meta, an environmental shield for Miss Tolstoy, and we're loaning you one of our production facilities so that you can retrofit your vehicles."
"All of this for one bunker." Amy said.
"On Mars." You remind her.
"Oh, right." She said.
"And the job we need you to do is simple. Wipe or destroy the AI, with minimum destruction of the facility. It's protected against electromagnetic pulses, and it's built into the very center of the facility. We can get you two access codes, but the turrets and mining drones are slaved to the AI."
>>
>>19846804
>>19846680
Really, at 75% off, they likely are effectively paying us to take the stuff, even if we are still paying them to get it, unless they're selling it at a massive profit margin.

>>19847173
Oh, so it's a 25% discount. Never mind.
>>
>>19847173
"How much control over the rest of the facility does the AI have? Doors, elevators, escalators, vending machines?"
>>
>>19847173
What did the stolen artifact look like? For that matter, We'll be needing descriptions of all of the artifacts.

>inb4 A mask with no discernable features, some kind of crystal sword, a book with unusual runes, etc...
>>
>>19847206
Some sort of bracelet with four strange crystals imbedded in it.
>>
>>19847225
A stick with a crystal on the end of it.
>>
"How much control over the rest of the facility does the AI have? Doors, elevators, escalators, vending machines?"
"None of that." He said. "The doors, elevators, and vending machines are all human controlled. The cameras, turrets, mining drones, and computer banks are all AI controlled, however. The atmospheric and power core control is slaved to a second AI- One much better designed."
"What did the stolen artifact look like? For that matter, we'll be needing descriptions of all of the artifacts."
"Most of them are the same." He said. "Strange, gray rectangles. The missing one was smaller, lighter, and matte black. The size of a matchbox, and connected to what looked like a gyroscope." He said.
"Uh." Amy met your eyes. She was there when you had bought the exact device he described.
>>
>>19847266
"Somehow I figured you would say that."
>>
>>19847266
"Interesting. Well, no chance of anything that small ever showing up again. Probably scattered to the four winds by now. Right, then, the deal is made, Amy, let's get to work."
>>
>>19847301
This.

>I'm leaving for a few hours.
>Anon, please don't shit up the quest.
>Exabyte, please don't let Anon talk you into shitting up the quest.
>>
"Interesting." You say. "Well, no chance of anything that small ever showing up again. Probably scattered to the four winds by now."
"Yeah, bad luck." Amy said. You feel Onyx- the AI which is currently controlling the teleportation artifact in question- chuckle.
"Right, then, the deal is made. Amy, let's get to work."

She nods, and the two of you step out of the building, and back into the van, where they lead you to a Van Co. production center. It's rather basic, for an automotive company.
Or so you think, until you step inside, and see drones flying about, building vans.
"Shut down wing three!" Your escort says, and some of the drones deactivate.
"Miss Tolstoy, Mister Davidson, we brought your flying machines here to be retrofitted, and here is the control schema for the third wing of drones." One of the engineers say, handing it to you.
Amy takes it from your hand, and then rolls over to the shut down assembly line, where the Ravens are sitting.
"Now." She said, with a sly grin. "Let's get to work."
---

The two white, flying machines now look completely different. They're pure black, spherical ovals, with strange, hexagonal plates covering the outside.
"There." Amy said, with a grin. "I also added some extra repulsion drives. Think they were ludicrous before? Now they can't even go max speed inside an atmosphere, or the friction will flash fry them!" She said, chuckling.
>>
>>19847365
"How. Just... How."
>>
>>19847365
"Neat."
>>
"How. Just... How."
"Well, The power shields have their own power cores, right?" She asked. "I just... kind of borrowed some of their atomic goop to make extra power shields, and reprogammed them to be repulsion drives." She said. "They won't notice."
She winked.
"So anyway, during the negotiation, you reminded me of my uncle." She said, rolling toward you on her wheeled augmented legs.. "Verne always talks like that with his employers, trying to get as much buck for his bang as he can. You did good, Dave."
Reaching for the clasp on your helmet, she tugged it off, and kissed you.
"So." She said. "We can leave now, or we can leave in the morning. It's up to you, but it's pretty late."
>>
>>19847459
"Well, it's a long trip to Mars, innit? May as well get on our way."
>>
>>19846202
Oh NO, I cannot stay there knowing You, E start this again.

No way.

I'M IN!
>>
>>19847459
"I think we should get some sleep."

Do we have our army case with us, still? If we do,

"Besides, I want to try something overnight..."

It's time to make some Adeptus Mechanicus soldiers with our old army and some atomic goo! To scale, rather than tiny. Our ship'll need a crew, after all, and models on the millimeter scale might not do. But we should probably try making the original army move, too. Tiny, autonomous army-men? It'd be a massive hit. We should run it by Mr. Grimmauld.
>>
>>19847459
I'd say - let's roll this shit, we can sleep in space.
>>
>>19847553
I got to question - WHY TINY?

Why don't just make them BIG, AI controlled versions? Like 1 to 1 scale?
>>
"Well, it's a long trip to mars, isn't it? May as well get on our way." You say.
"Yeah, you're right." She said. "It'll take a few days. I'll get us loaded up on rations, oxygen, and more atomic goop."
She quickly connected the small, drone-controlling device to her wrist computer, and rolled backward in circles as she directed them to load up the now-larger-and-more-spacious Ravens.
"I'm giving us more than we'd need, but in case something goes wrong, our atomic goop can become oxygen if we need it to." She said.

Soon enough, the ravens are loaded up and ready. You climb into Huginn, your mechandrites pulling you along and locking you in. Amy blows you a kiss, then closes her own Raven.
"Ready." She said, her voice coming through your speakers. "Let's hope that nothing happens with EE or Resurgence while we're gone."
"Right." You say, and the two of you blast off, into the sky.
--
<You have been asleep for twelve hours.> Azure- One of your onboard AI- says. You're outside of earth's atmosphere, coming up on where Mars should soon be, according to it's orbit. .
"I'm bored." Amy says- Apparently she was the one who had woken you up. "We should have brought like... board games. Or movies. Or went in the same raven, so we could.. distract one another."
>>
>>19847650
I agree completely honeybun. The possibilities of mechadendrites and zero-g, it boggles the mind. After this mission we could take a space vacation. How's that sound adorable technicolor death machine?
>>
>>19847650
"Distract, you say? Why not distract ourselves while on Mars, there is lower gravity in there. I suppose that would be exciting, eh?"
>>
>>19847646
>To scale, rather than tiny.
Read closely, sir, rather than skimming.

>>19847650
"As much as I'd love to be 'distracted' by you, honeycakes, it might be a bad idea to get up to anything when we're about to fly into a network of deadly railguns and gauss arrays. We'll have time for R&R after the mission. Besides, we always have plenty of fun during missions!"
>>
"I agree completely." You say. "The possibilities of mechandrites and zero-G. . .it boggles the mind. After this mission, we could take a space vacation. How's that sound, my adorable technicolor death machine?"
"Space vacation... It sounds like fun." She says. "But I'm going to build something completely new for it. Like a yacht. . .but for space. A space yacht!"
>>
>>19847715
"Will it have death rays? Because you can't have a space yacht without space death rays."
>>
>>19847746
And missiles. Lots of big boom-y missiles.
>>
>>19847715
That sounds wonderful snugglebun. We can add missiles, and lasers to it.
>>
>>19847715
We need a ram. For RAMMING into planets.

RAMMING SPEEED!
>>
Also mega yacht-sized mechandrites.
>>
"Will it have death rays? Because you can't have a space yacht without space death rays."
She giggled. "Well. . .the Jormungandr has that disintegration cannon. I could retrofit that into our space yacht." She said. "Good thing I kept a power core for my wrist computer, so I can design it while we wait."
"And missiles." you say. "Lots of big, boom-y missiles."
"Oooh. Good idea. And if we get enough atomic goop, I could make it produce the missiles on command." She says. "I could also make it produce oxygen, food. . .Everything could be based off of Van Co's nano-meta."
"What about mechandrites?"
She sighs.
"Fine, I'll add mechandrites to the belly of it. But if... and only if, I get to name it. I don't want you to call it DaveYacht or Davemobile or whichever you plan on naming it." She said.
>>
>>19847884
If we're adding drites to it I was actually thinking of calling it the Kraken. But your word is law when it comes to naming snookums.
>>
>>19847884
But DaveYacht is an awesome name.
>>
>>19847884
"Does that also disqualify the compounds 'Dacht' and 'Yave?' Admittedly that last one doesn't work too well."
>>
"If we're adding 'drites to it, I was actually thinking of naming it the Kraken. But your word is law, when it comes to naming, snookums."
"Snookums?" She asked, chuckling- She always had to make fun of whatever endearment you called her. "Anyway, Kraken isn't bad. . but I was thinking I'd name it Slepnir. Six mechandrites, Slepnir was the horse that Odin rode, six legs, all of that. But Kraken is pretty good too, so I'll leave it to you. As long as it's not DaveYacht."
"But DaveYacht is an awesome name." You whine.
"No, no it isn't." She said.
>>
>>19847957
We'll make the final decision about what to name our theoretical space yacht after some kinky, zero-g, mechadendrite loving aboard it. Does that sound like a plan sweetie?
>>
>>19847957
It's better than AmyYacht. Double 'y', eww.
>>
>>19847957
"Eh. Let's just go with Slepnir. We're already heavy on the Norse themes."
>>
>>19847957
I'm pretty sure Sleipnir has 8 legs.
>>
>>19847997
It does. Also it's Sleipnir.
>>
>>19848017
That's what I said.
>>
>>19848040
Yeah, but Amy said 'Slepnir' both times.
>>
"Eh. Let's just go with Sleipnir. We're already heavy on the Norse themes."
"Sometimes we go with greek mythology too, remember. And that one satellite was named after an Irish spear of legend, wasn't it?"
"Luin." You say. "And doesn't Sleipnir have eight legs?"
"... It does? I swore it had three... " She sighed. "Fuck, you're right, according to my wrist computer. It doesn't feel right, but I'm going to modify my design to have eight 'drites. We need to keep up the parallels, right?"

Far in the distance, you see the small red planet getting ever closer.
"Well, would you look at that." Amy said. "It almost looks like it's coming toward us."
"We are in its orbit." You say.
The two of you watch, as the planet gets ever closer. In truth, it's not even close to you yet- you'll need a whole extra day to get there, but it's foreboding, somehow.
>>
>>19848067
"..."
"..."
"So..."
Being in a little capsule by yourself with nothing to do for a whole day seems kind of boring.
>>
>>19848067
"Well. We've got a while until we get there. Wanna play Tic-Tac-Toe?"
>>
>>19848067
Amy, we're really going to Mars to take down a mad AI that was excavating Alien artifacts.

I admit that if a year ago someone told me I was going to be a tentacled god of war who is technically braindead, hacks stuff with magic brain powers, has the best girlfriend in the world and considers this sort of thing a jolly good time, I'd have called them crazy.
>>
"Amy." You say.
"What?"
"We're really going to Mars to take down a mad AI that was excavating alium artifacts."
"Alium?"
"I admit that, if a year ago, someone told me I was going to be a tentacled god of war who is technically braindead, hacks stuff with magic brain powers, has the best girlfriend in the world, and considers this sort of thing a jolly good time, I'd have called them crazy."
"In the world?" She asked, and you can hear her grin. "We're not on a world. It'd be more accurate to say 'in the solar system'." She said.

The day passes rather slowly- It mostly contains large amounts of flirting, small amounts of smalltalk, and Amy ranting about the Sleipnir's design... But soon enough, you reach the atmosphere, slowing your raven down, descending through to the planet itself.
"Ah, the home of the Adeptus Mechanicus." Amy says.
"..."
"What? I may not like the game itself, but that doesn't mean I can't read those books you gave me." She said, somewhat defensively.
>>
It's been what, two days? How fast are these things even going?
>>
>>19848208

Amy, I am severely tempted to steal this base and start painting cog and skull imagery everywhere.

It got us a sweet pad in Antarctica.

I probably won't take their mars base but it is a fun thought. Our primary method of getting a house is to steal it.
>>
>>19848241
>It's been nearly twice that long, but remember, you're in a small chamber with little to do, so I'm timeskipping mercilessly.

"That's it." You say. "First chance we get, we're setting up shop here with an outpost. I'll own a Forgeworld yet! But first, we've got work to do. Is the outpost in sight?"
"Yeah, it's right below me." She said. "I'm cloaked, so it can't see me."

>Mission start.

You follow Amy's raven, and see the outpost, far below. It has a sparking red dome around it, keeping most of the dust out. Apparently, it's the atmospheric shield. There are a few railguns here, a few gauss cannons there, but nothing you haven't seen before.

"I found the entrance." Amy says, and you eye her Raven. It's coasting above a small airlock. "Should we set down, or dynamic entry?"
>>
>>19848311
Let's just set down.

I'm not that worried about the automated defenses, no need to bust through like that to try to avoid them. But we don't know what else is there so I'd prefer not to just leap in and get caught by surprise.
>>
>>19848311
"Nah. Let's just knock. If that fails, we hack the door open."

"Let's just set down." You say, and direct Huginn closer to her raven.
"Right." She says. "Just let me get this harness on. . ."
You hear her rustling around, and her Raven jinks to the side, suddenly. "There."
Her raven slowly glides to the ground.

"Moment of truth..." She says, and then she opens the raven. There's a loud hiss, and then she climbs out, a red field sparking around her body. Over her armor, she's wearing a strange harness, covered in power shields, and on her face is a breathmask.
"Hey, Dave, look at me! I'm walking on Mars!" She says, and waves. You land your own Raven, put your helmet on, and climb out. It hisses as well, and you suddenly feel lighter. You climb out, and the dirt crunches under your feet.

That's when one of the turrets turned toward Amy, and fired, the railgun projectile exploding off of her power shield.

The turret fires again, but with your heavy mechandrites, you launch yourself in the way, kicking in bullet-time for maximum reactive speed. The second railgun shot explodes against your own shield. You reach out with your raw willpower.
<Cyan, target the turrets.> You tell your networking AI.
<Affirmative.> He responds, and then you close your eyes.

The turret twitches, as you gain access to it. Whatever is controlling it, keeps ranting. <Keep it secret keep it secret keep it secret>
<Reminds me of Eleven.> Azure says, and then you make the turret shoot a second.

Amy draws out her Hydra- a strange plasma weapon with multiple barrels, and starts rapidly firing at the turrets. Her legs whine, and she leaps forward, twisting through the air toward the airlock. She starts typing in the access code that Gareth had given you.
"Dave, whoever placed these turrets weren't so smart. Get close enough to the facility, and they can't even reach you. They're designed to be anti-air." She said.

You barrel toward the airlock, shielding yourself with your heavy drites, the various turrets sparking off of your 'drites and power shields, reaching the door just as Amy gets it open. The two of you enter the airlock, and it slams shut. A hiss starts up, and you see small bits of fog enter the room.

You close your eyes, and reach out, pinging. There are... no turrets on the inside, instead, simply a bunch of drones with welders and some kind of heat-based cutting device. When you relay your findings to Amy, she chuckles.
"This will be easy." she said, spinning the barrel of her hydra. "Just a few drones. What could go wrong?"

That's when the other side of the airlock opened, and the swarm of mining drones rushed forth.

"See this?" You cry, raising Mjolnir and all of your drites.
"That went wrong!"

You fire, but the drones keep getting closer, and closer. One of them reaches Amy's shield... And goes through. You see it's cutting device click on, and it careens toward her, sparks shooting from the cutter.

You close your eyes, and try to hack, but . . nothing. You can't focus. Why can't you focus?!

Amy screams.

You snatch the drone out of the air with a heavy 'drite, tearing it away from her, and winging it into the other drones, smashing them back.

Amy was bleeding- bleeding badly, a wound cut through her armor. She bit her lip, and raised her Dragon's Breath- The most powerful handheld plasma weapon she had made yet.
So she fires, and a massive green fireball splashes through the swarm of drones, slagging them easily.

She fell to her knees, clasping the wound on her belly tightly. She was pale.

You quickly disconnect and remove her armor, synthesizing bandages, and medical equipment. Blood spills out over your gloves, but you work at it anyway, ignoring the dripping, melted drones covering the ceiling, floor, and walls. Your smallest, thin mechandrites adoitly weave around, binding her wounds as best as you can.
Blood soaks easily through the bandages.
"Y-yeah." She said, her teeth chattering. "T-that went wrong."

>>
Your stomach sinks.
This is bad. This is really bad.
Amy shivers, and her eyes drift closed.

This is really, really bad.
So you do what only you can do. Something you're not even sure how you do.
You close your eyes. . and focus.

Instantly, you're in a strange, unearthly mindscape, full of nothing but darkness, and various points of light.
You snatch your suit's onboard computer. You snatch the Raven's computer systems, and you borrow Amy's wrist computer.
<Now.> You say, to your four onboard AI. <Help me.>

Your suit's atomic goop storage whines, as you drain it quickly, forging. . .not a machine, or a device. . but a copy of Amy's own body.
<You're burning out your own brain again.> Azure says. You hardly care. Your suit synthesizes organic materiel, repairing what had been damaged, pumping synthesized blood into Amy's bloodstream.
<She will live.> Magenta tells you.

You stitch up the remainder of the wound, turning it from a life-threatening, fatal wound, into little more than a bad slash. She's still pale, and unconscious, but not dead.
You look around the hall. The airlock is on one side, and the pile of slagged drones on the other. The hall's camera had been destroyed, too, apparently, so you should be rather safe for now.
What you need to do now, though, is figure out what to do with Amy. End the mission here? Put her in the Raven and send her home? ... Or bring her with you?
>>
>>19849073
Let put her somewhere safe, and then walk in and play the GUY with explosions behind. Fuck that goddamn AI.

Also, keep in mind that minetorches go through our shield.
>>
>>19849073
I'd advocate against bringing her with us for now. Put her somewhere safe, a good option would be in one of the ravens that we send a decent distance from the bunker. Then we smash our way through the facility and do the job.
>>
>>19849073
Let her rest in the Raven. When she comes 'round, she can play support.
>>
Gaah, this is going to piss her off to no end.
>>
>>19849145
I suppose it's out of question that we need support anytime from now.
Our support now is pure RAGE.
And by the time Amy awakes - there will be nothing to support against.
>>
You pick her up with your medium 'drites, and take her back out of the airlock. The turrets instantly hone in on you, but your heavy 'drites and your power shields easily deal with them, as you slide Amy into the Raven. You grab her big bag of explosives, close the raven, and send it out of sight from the bunker.

Now.

You turn around, bag around your shoulder. You pick out a grenade, pull the pin, and throw it.

Fuck this AI.

--

Five minutes later, you're tearing through the hall, Mjolnir in one hand, as you shoot down each drone as soon as it appears. You aren't going to let them get past your shields and slash you up- not if you can help it.

You reach the large, bolted door- The one that, during the briefing, Gareth had pointed you to. The AI core is on the other side.

It doesn't respond.

The fury builds. You tear through the door, via plasma blades and mechandrites, prying the massive, bolted doors away. They rend, slowly, the surface crumpling. What was this made out of- the stuff they put in vaults?

When you finally tear through, you see the massive AI core, a handful of mining drones. . .
And a series of strange, eerie blocks of stone- Some small, some large, but they're all grey, and perfectly shaped.
Except for one.
It's pure black, and quite large. . but the most significant part of it is that it's . . missing a piece. A small, rectangular chunk of it is missing.

You shoot down the drones, quite easily.

So you grip the thick cable with your 'drite's power claw, and clench. The cable sparks, and disconnects.

The AI's hum slowly stops.

You scan all of the boxes, but they seem rather... standard. Other than being perfectly square, with corners so sharp you could cut your fingers on them, they seem like they're made out of stone.
You pick up a few, and try to fit them into the missing place of the large, black rectangle, but none of them seem to fit.

And then, still connected to the box, you slip it into the missing part.
The world explodes.
Sparks fly through the air, through your vision, fading through objects as if they were ghostly, and ephemeral. Your spine- the Bullfrog prototype, to be explicit- heats up- you can swear you hear the flesh sizzling.

"When I got here, you were twitching, on the ground." Amy said, in a dry voice. She sighed, and sounded strained. "I... don't like when you do that. I don't like it at all. Let's just get our pay and go home."
You hug her, being careful not to disturb the stitches on her belly. You stand there for a long, long while.

<Onyx has self-modified. Quite a bit. I figured I should let you know.>

<Can you tell what the entire thing is?>
<No.> Onyx says. <Not yet. I need more information. I see the parallels between the artifact and the teleportation component, and I see the parallels between the artifact and power shields. I suspect testing will be required.>

"I demand a vacation." You say.
"A space vacation?" Amy asked, then giggled. She shook her head. "Sorry, the drugs are starting to get to me. Let's just... let's just go."

With your heavy Drites, you pick the massive artifact up, and carry it with you, above your head, and get back to the ravens. You load the artifact up in Huginn.. and then there's no more room for a person.
"Don't worry." Amy said, watching your conundrum. "Just climb in here. There's enough room for two of us, now that I made the ravens bigger."

Before leaving, you close your eyes, and scan the systems. The AI.. had stopped recording camera data, apparently, the moment it found the large artifact. It's almost convenient- there will be no trace of the artifact ever being here. At least, nothing that wasn't slagged by the explosives and plasma fire that rained through the facility.
"Dave?" Amy asks. You nod, and climb into the Raven.
"It's a pity that your belly wound will prevent shenanigans." You say.
"Well. . .maybe the more rigorous shenanigans." Amy said, pulling you close, as the raven's canopy shuts, and the two of them launch off.

I don't care about implications. He straight up said we are not a space cyborg, despite the fact that Dave is a cyborg, and he is in space.

He has in fact been to Mars in the near future. How many other people, or cyborgs for that matter, can say that, or will be able to say that in the near future? I'm just saying that being cyborg in space makes Dave a space cyborg.

Well we're not a proper space cyborg. We've just downloaded schematics for what's probably some kind of teleporter/propulsion FTL drive thing, and when we put it on Sleipnir and fly through star systems blasting aliums, we'll be a space cyborg.

I originally did the first NFC, first, and then finished up all the plot points, and said 'I'll do something different for a bit' and ran Sorceress Quest. Then, halfway through, I got drunk, and did HARRUMPH quest. Then I finished up the first part of SORQ, did MEQ, and now I'm back to the sequel of NFC.

On a related note, I'm considering rewriting the first bit of NFC, and putting it into a PDF as a standalone novel thing.

That'd make for a nice summary.

Could we hypothetically make a second perfect copy of Amy. We can use the goop to recreate the body perfectly, and we are living proof that its possible to scan a body into a digital format, and putting it back in wouldn't be that hard.

We could always have a spare Amy in case she got hurt, a basement full of them, we'll keep the brain uploads up to date so she at most will lose a day.
>>
>>19851585
First of all, that's creepy as fuck.

Second of all, not without intensive computing power. It took all the computing you could reach simply to emulate blood and scar tissue. An entire body would be something different.

>>
>>19851620
Well the basement full of them was more joking that anything else. But having a spare around just in case would still be creepy, but we're going transhuman here. We just need more processing power, than everything will be perfect.
>>
>>19851695
THAT'S WHAT THEY ALWAYS SAY.

DOES EVERYONE ELSE NOT SEE THAT WE'D BE JUST CREATING PERFECTLY CORRUPTIBLE CLONES OF OURSELVES THAT COULD EASILY HAVE THE POWER TO OVERTHROW US?!
>>
>>19851853
I was suggesting making more Amys, though more of us could be useful. Though for us it'd be much safer actually, given that our brain itself is not used for movement and so on we'll just have braindead piles of flesh with an empty bullfrog in the back that we can shift a fork of ourself to if necessary.

Amy is the difficult one.
>>
>>19851875
I like the idea; it'd be an awesome alternative to burning a fate point; but I think the risk is too great. Plus we just absorbed a bit of alien tech into our systems; I think that in itself should make us very cautious for the next few days.
>>
>>19851631
If you do that, your bullshit magic hacking is gone. It's created by the fusion of the bullfrog and your own body- a clone wouldn't have the same effect.
