Aaaaand we're back.
Last time on Civ Game: Hard mode, we ventured into the dark depths of the dragon tail mountains, there we found a magical cursed sword that corrupted the captains mind. We befriend a lake monster and eventually gain it as an ally, but when the capital comes under threat of attack by a 1000-goblin army all forces fall back to the capital in preperation for a siege. The goblin army is finally here, and they plan to take the Seat of Kri'kla!

[ENTERING GENERAL MODE]

The enemy is at our doorstep, it would seem that they have a battering ram. Our archers have been trying halt the ram by killing it's pushers, but they're under heavy fire from the enemy archers. While the goblinoid archers are innacurate, they fire so many arrows that it doesn't matter.

The lake monster stands by the rest of the soldiers at the gate, clad in iron armore and wielding dual maces. The high priest and his brother stand behind the warriors. Eheactl is at the vanguard of the group.

Pit falls are around the walls to protect from siege ladders.

We have three full tubs of shrapnel on the walls, we can dump them on whatever is rushing the gate to cause damage.

What are your orders?

[Think strategically, and try to come to an agreement with your fellow tacticians.]
>Paint.net doesn't like me.

>>
how far are the goblins from the walls?
>>
>>19812011
would it be feasible to open the gates, slap the shit of the ram crew and then retreat back in?
>>
>>19812033
It would if we could easily open the gate, but as it stands it takes at least a few minutes to open/close the gate. Something we should probably improve on if we survive this.

>>19812011
Like fourty feet. They could reach the gate in about twenty seconds.
>>
>>19812132
Well.
I think we might be fucked.
Is the ram shielded from archer fire?
Could we set the ram on fire?
>>
>>19812176
The pushers are protected from archer fire, but fire might be able to smoke them out.
>>
>>19812253
Well, we got nothing better to do.
A consensus of one for this tactical maneuver.
>>
>>19811980

Destroy some houses, use the rocks to pour in front of the ram making it impossible for it to get to the gate.
>>
>>19812331
I like it.
>>
>>19812132

20 seconds? Fuck, we need readily available rocks instead of destroying houses then. Do we have the stuff do do that, or are we forced to simply pepper the force with arrows?

They will send more goblins to the ram either way, so shooting the ram-people isn't doing much if they will be replaced. Aim for the obvious spearhead of the goblins and try to thin their numbers out instead.
>>
>>19812364
I don't think they are actually attacking, just that they are close to the walls.
Pile rubble on our side of the gate/pour it over the walls. We must stop them getting in at all costs.
>>
The high priest grunts, "MEN, TAKE SOME ROCKS FROM THE STOCK PILE AND THROW THEM OVER THE WALL!" He orders, the lizardmen obey without question. Thankfully they already had a good supply of rocks within the town. In addition, the high priest orders the archers to light their arrows on fire, something they had never done before. The archers shoot fire arrows down onto the battering ram, and at the same time soldiers throw heavy rocks down onto the enemy. The occupants of the battering ram are smoked out and flee, screeching wildly only to be shot down after a few seconds. 800 spear and axe wielding goblins run forward to unbury the ram. Some run up with small buckets of water and throw them on the ram, others start throwing rocks into the spike pits. The goblins swarm over the gate like rats, chopping their axes into the gate.

What are your orders?

Time to pour rubble down over the gate.
If we got some latrines... Pour them over too. Or whatever flammable liquids we can set on fire. Is there a smith set up? Send some to fetch s much ember as possible and throw it over the gate.

We need the most nasty shit we can find that we can pour over the gate to confuse, stun, horrify and hurt them.
>>
>>19812565
throw that shrapnel stuff we prepared, keep firing on the goblin archer unit.
Make sure that ram stays covered/on fire.
>>
>>19812644
we don't want to urn the gate down
>>
>>19812679

Shooting at the archers is pointless. As soon as the "fighters" have routed, the archers will follow. Focus on the ones that are expected to breach the walls.
>>
No fire on the gate. Get the chamber ports, mortar, rocks, shrapnel anything we can finde and dump it on the gate. As for the areas away from the gay pelt anyone who approaches with fire arrows, or arrows coated with shit so that their targets die of infection.

we are fucked man.

The soldiers start dumping over whatever they can over the wall, shrapnel and hot ash mainly, the archers focus their fire on the goblins trying to unbury the ram. The debris and shrapnel pierce and burn the goblins, some stumbling into the spike pit where they were impaled. However the archers on the walls were taking extremely heavy losses, the goblin archers were picking them off slowly but surely. Due to the lizardmens dwindling number of archers the goblins mannaged to unbury to ram enough to use it once, they hit the gate and it shakes, nearly falling over. Before the goblins could use it again the ram breaks, buckling over on itself. The goblins now work to cut through the gate, they swarm it even more than before, hundreds of axes smash against the gate...It won't hold for long.
>>
>>19812900
Somebody post that agincourt strip.
>>
scramble the troops in preparation of the goblins over-running the defenses. make all warriors grab a buddy. make those two buddies back each other up on EVERYTHING fighting in teams of two and covering one another. if one of the two dies in one such unit, psychologically the other loses their shit and fights twice as hard until they are killed, if they are killed. i would say that we should dig a pit on the other side of the gate filled with shit, and shrapnel (to kill and cause infection) so that when/if goblins jumped over it they would land in death, but we dont have time for that do we.... have all troops set up at on the ramparts and at the base of the walls/gate

make sure archers stay to the back or on the ramparts firing down, and troops though buddied up with one partner, are in squads of about 10 to keep morale up. keep your power players like the lake monster etc spaced out and mobile.

a tactic ive seen used is where a wizard summons up a harmless but frightening apparition that scares his own troops into running onto the field to escape it, but that is useless here as well i think.

if we can id also suggest building walls on either side of the gate entrance (maybe use magic to summon two iron walls?) so that as the goblins funnel inwards they are in one large group which can very easily be flanked. if thats even possible
>>
>>19813046
>>19813047

if we cant dig a pit at the least, through wood and shit in front of the gate and set it ablaze to slow them down as they try to come in, the smell of burning shit, depending on the shit, can actually be very dangerous to someones health alone. at least breathing in the smoke directly

>>
>>19813037

Form a wall of spears behind the gate, make the goblins walk into speartips. Form the lizardmen in as many rows as possible, so that if a goblin manages to break through the first line of tips, there will be one more and probably a third one as well.

Now, the battle of attrition has come.

Might as well retire the bowmen from the walls, they've done what they can. Set them up as the rear guard, and give them spears as well to join the fight for the walls. Leave some behind in case some siege ladders arrive, though.

After running out of shrapnel and other debris to throw at the enemy, high priest Pahualaxa orders for the archers to fall back. "MEN, BRACE THE GATE, IF THEY BREACH THE WALL THERE WILL BE NO HOPE!" The lizardmen brace the gate, they take their spears out and form a spear wall, the archers position themselves behind the spearmen, they draw their bows and wait for the enemy to breach the gate.

"They're all weak." The sword whispered. "They don't value you." It muttered to Eheactl. "I am your salvation." Eheactl accepted the swords whispers, he believed them to be true. He talked back to the sword, "Yes, but what should I do to save my people?" He asked,
"Simple. Simply use me against the enemy, donot worry, you will not perish." Eheactl nodded slowly and started to make his way up to the wall. The high priest noticing he had the sword in his hand. "Damnit!" He grunted.

When the high priest gained posession of the sword he could feel an evil presence lurking within, a demon, a ghost, a spirit. He didn't tell the public for fear of panicing them. But now he knew, the sword had a will of it's own, and it had taken control of Eheactl with it's honeyed words. But he felt as though he wzs more needed here, so he stayed for the time being...

Excuse me, I am neither the uninitiated fellow or the anon that was lecturing him upon the merits of grammar. I was merely pointing out an inconsistency that amused me. My apologies for perpetuating the conflict.

I too, however, would like to see the next phase of the battle, and how much further in the favor of our enemy it might unravel...
>>
The goblins kept chopping at the gate, eventually piercing the thick wood. They peered through the gates holes and into the courageous lizardmen, they screeched wildly with bloodlust. The lizardmen braced themselves for the fight to come.

Eheactl peered down at the enemy archers, who were now aiming their bows at him. They fired, Eheactl just stood their, confident that his sword would protect him. And so it did, a blueish force field appeared around him and blocked all of the arrows. Eheactl jumped over the wall and landed without injury. He walked towards the archers...200 of the goblins noticed Eheactl and supposed that he was the lizardmens leader, they surrounded him and prepared for combat...

The lizardmen form an inward V, the goblins will charge right into a killzone. Finally the goblins break down the door, the gate shatters and the blood thirsty goblins charge into the lizardmens spear wall ferociously. Many of them die, but some of the smaller ones manage to slip past the spears and injure the spearmen. The archers open fire, twenty arrows fire into the sea of green enemies, they quickly switch to maces and swords, they take out the enemies that slip past the the spear wall. The battle wages on, but the lizardmen are being overhwhelmed and won't last much longer.

Meanwhile Eheactl is fighting off 175 goblins, while wiedling the sword he moves much faster than even the fastest lizards, he is stronger than the ogres, and without breaking a sweat he wipes out fifty of them, more to come...

Eheactl is moving faster every second, his body augmented by the swords strange properties, he nearly wipes out the entire batallion of goblins. The archers start to fall back in fear of being caught in the massacare. Meanwhile in the gat the lizardmen are still fighting strong, the lake monster reinforcing the weaker spots of the formation. The goblins are demoralized by the monster and fight less efficiently. The formation takes losses however, as the goblins superior numbers are simply too much to handle. It seems as though the goblins don't have a leader, they aren't fighting at 100% either, some lizardmen notice that the goblins are sick and injured even before they're killed. Nonetheless, the lizardmen press on. The formation is starting to loosen, and will probably break at this rate if something isn't done. Lizardmen that are behind the spearmen throw javelins into the goblin masses, killing many of them...

The lake monster is starting to become wild from the fighting.

Eheactl will make short work of that last 50, and when he does I suggest he follow up on the ranks attacking our gate from behind, splitting the attack. if our ranks are about to break, and waifu is growing enraged... i suggest we have our men hold the lines until waifu is really berserk, then we move back and let her unleash the brunt of her fury on them, and attack from the sides while she destroys in the middle and Eheactl sweeps from behind. the archers cannot harm us while we are not on the ramparts, and will likely avoid the fray after seeing Eheactl's skill. this is all very very risky... im worried. if it comes down to it, have our warriors move up the stairs - giving them the highground, but not to the top of the ramparts where they will be vulnerable to archers.... but only if necessary

It is in our best interest, now that the battle has enraged and excited her, to attempt to court the lake monster while the adrenaline is running through her and her body is ready. now may be our only opportunity to breed a mightier race of lizardfolk, that we might rule this earth.

Both of the priests start chanting to increase morale, "THIS IS A TEST FROM KRI'KLA THE GREAT SERPENT, DONOT DISAPPOINT HER!" They continue. The soldiers calm down the lake monster and pull her back, but when a stray arrow pierces her neck she goes berserk, rushing into the fray and decimating the goblins with her monsterous strength, at the same time she is stabbed dozens of times, which causes her to bleed heavily. Many of the lizardmen succumb to the goblin scum...

Eheactl finished off the last of the goblin battalion, and changes his focus to the archers. He grins wildly. The goblins flee in terror of the unstoppable beast known as Eheactl. But it is no use. The sword whispers into Eheactls ear, "Use me, brave warrior, anihilate these weaklings...", "Yess.." He mutters. He raises the magical sword high up into the air and as he brings it down he shouts "RO!". A huge arc of violent energy emerges from the blade and utterly wipes out the goblin archers.

We're outnumbered 6 to 1, but we have currently two monsters making short work of the enemy. I suggest we try to conserve as many lizardmen as we can.

Make the man stay close, have them fall back and form themselves into an encasement of shields (we do have shields right?) and spears, with the priests inside. This should hold until our leader comes to our aid.
>>
>>19815297

i like this, but dont, because then no one is there to distract from teh monster. plus, eheactl and the monster are both enraged/possessed. aka if they see each other, they will kill each other as though they were looking at any other gawlbim. that will be bad.

that's laughable
this entire conflict we have only lost 20 warriors, and our enemies have lost 300 and counting. so, if the rate of death stays the same, we'll only lose 20 more and they will all die. that of course is not accounting for the advantage eheactl has coming up from behind while they are cornered, the number that a fully enraged lake monster will take out, and if we march forward our morale will increase further. so really we'll probably only lose 10 more lizards.

I say, we march forwards.

"FALL BACK, IT IS TOO DANGEROUS HERE!!" Pahualaxa shouted, the lizardmen retreated deeper into the town where they reformed in a shield formation to protect the priests. But the goblins seemed to be distracted by the lake monster and now the approaching Eheactl. The Zlatitza was in a full rage, crushing goblins left and right, picking them up and throwing them into the sky, aswell as bludgeoning them with her iron maces. But she had lost too much blood, and her movements were sloppy now.

Eheactl entered the fray, slicing goblins to bits with ease, and by chance Zlatitza was in Eheactls path. She was literally cut in half by Eheactl. He didn't react, he simply kept killing, the sword in his hand glowing even more brightly than before. If anything stood in his path he would kill it, it was no longer about proving his worth to the high priests, it was about the thrill of power...

The high priest orders the soldiers to stand their guard. They nervously watch the battle continue. Eheactl slays every last one of the goblins, his cursed blade drenched in blood. On closer inspection it seems as though a blue gas is seeping from the corpses and being absorbed into the blade. Eheactl sets his eyes on the Lizardmen and the high priests, who are still on guard. "They are afraid of you, thing will never be the same..You can never go back, Eheactl." The blade told Eheactl. Eheactl turned around and started walking away from the battle, into the wilderness. His sorrow was so thick that it could be felt in the air. He was no longer the same Eheactl as before. The blade had poisoned his mind for good.

VICTORY

[Entering Civilization Mode]

The lizardmen spent the rest of the day burying the dead and scavenging from the goblin corpses, they didn't find anything of value. But in the carts they found tons of shiny yellow coins and food stuffs.

Next turn it will be winter, so choose wisely on what you want to do.

OP are we coldblooded like regular lizards and thusly pretty much going to die in cold weather unless we burrow underground? Or can we survive in the cold? The few lizardmen that are left tend to the walls and the gate, they work quickly for they know winter is almost here. Thankfully they have a comfortable amount of food so they won't have to work themselves to death scavenging. Once the repairs are complete the high priests leave their people to mourn the lost in their burrows.

Meanwhile the high pirests visit the lake monsters children, there are two of them, and they seem to have taken a liking to the lizard folk. They waddle over to the high priests and make sounds. It comes to the high priests attention that they won't be able to periodically feed the children, since they'll be hibernating...And if they simply leave food out for them it'll rot, and they can't live in the granary, as they require water nearly at all times.
__________
The Lake Monsters Offspring
A1: Keep a few lizards awake during hibernation to feed them.
B1: Leave potatoes and cabbage, things that won't go bad very quickly.
C1: Leave them to die.
D1: Put them out of there misery.
E1: Your choice.

A1
>>
rolled 75 = 75

Lets leave a few lizards awake during hibernation to feed the lake monsters, they can raise them as members of the tribe.

A1.
>>
>>19816237

imagine this. you happen upon a village in the dead of winter while passing through. the gate is destroyed, there is evidence of a battle having taken place (rubble, a broken battering ram {which we should take pieces of into the burrow and then rebuild when we arise} and alot of arrows sticking out of the ground and a bunch of shitty weapons etc etc)
no one is there. this town is empty. no food, no nothing. no evidence of life and nothing of value. with both evidence of it being overrun, and the absence of anyone living there... you assume logically that the place was ransacked a while ago and there is nothing here for you save perhaps a place to camp for a night or two.

if you have reason to believe the lizardfolk are here, somehow (cant smell us with all the winter about, certainly cant see us) you search and search
say you actually find the entry to the burrows
that is a narrow one man at a time tunnel, that you know nothing about/is dark and possibly full of traps (we should build a trap or two) and certainly full of lizardfolk who are on their turf.

no one is going to slap our shit k

6:30PM

BTW guys, we pretty much have to hibernate, we have to feast before we sleep, we have iron tipped arrows, we hibernate until spring, and we don't have an underground burrow network, we have a bunch of 2-story houses that have burrow basements that warm us during the great sleep.
>>
A1, we need all the help we can fuckin get, our forces are decimated and though i suspect we will rise anew in spring... its good to have a lil extra help.
>>
>>19816342

>build a burrow network
>>
>>19816282
As far as I've managed to read, hibernation for reptiles isn't as strict as it is for mammals.

So with this in mind i'm going for a slightly modified A1.

Have the lizards work turns in feeding the babies, it would be rather unfair to have a single group of our kind working to feed them.

Assuming a winter lasting 90 days, we can have each lizard waking up every 51 days to feed the younglings once a day and then going back to sleep after awaking his successor.
>>
>>19816366
Either that or have the lizards who've bonded the closest to the little lake monsters be the ones to feed them through the winter. Generate a father-child relationship with them.
>>
rolled 82 = 82

our mexican comrade has raised an excellent point, we'll just have lizardmen take turns in the feeding of the lake babbies. When we wake up...burrow time.
>>
why'd we even build fucking houses instead of a burrow network? houses can be destroyed and are not as easy to defend by any measure.

I propose that when we awake, we begin constructing a subterranean kingdom.
>>
Once a lizardman hibernates he can't wake up, it's not like they're taking a really long nap.
>>
>>19816473
well.
We draw straws for the two who don't hibernate then.
>>
>>19816400
>>19816489
>>19816473

Does it really fuckin matter if we have them take turns or just stay up one or the other? Will it make any difference at all? Bottom line, babbies are covered.
>>
rolled 96 = 96

I still say A1. We'll just have them draw straws.
>>
OP what's stopping shit from murdering us in our sleep when we hybernate? We really shouldn't let our enemies learn of this.
>>
It is the first day of march, the new year. It has been just a little over a year since the lizardmen abandoned their opressive homeland and settled here, the lizardmen are starting to show a certain level of pride for their endurance. The lizardmen awake, they emerge from their burrows once more full of energy and life. The warm sun welcoming them into a new friendlier world.

But when the lizardmen check up on the lake monster offspring they are forced to face a grim sight. The two lizardmen that were stationed here to feed the children died, their dead bodies coiled up as if they were sleeping, the starved corpses of the lake monster children were not far off. Their death must've been unimaginably painful, but what was even more sad was the fact that the lizardmens bodies were untouched, the lake children chose not to consume the corpses of their pseudo fathers.

While life is lost, new life is born, and the high priest fortells that this year will be prosperous.

I think we oughtta get food, people are gonna be hungry. once we've stockpiled some food, then we go about arming ourselves once more, then once we are armed, we go about digging deep and building an empire below, expanding the burrows. we can take materials from the houses and move them underground to help with construction.

underground, the size of the armies will matter much less, and never again will our foes have such an advantage over us. once we have a secure home, then we go about forming alliances.

thoughts?
>>
>>19816585
B. Let's get them burrows connected and have ourselves a warren. Maybe even dig out a large underchamber where our priests can retreat to if the enemy ever breaches our gates. That would make defending much easier in the future.

Guys remember its hard mode! Wouldnt be surprised if we go extinct in thread 3. OP is a pretty good GM he doesnt get pressured.

With the gold we probably can trade that with travelers. But our population is halved which is quite sad. Going by OP's population rule if everyone survives we will only have 60-70 lizards next season. So we might want to go back to free some slave lizards

Did you know the star of david is actually one of the oldest, most effective designs for a shield? Its a pair of triangular metal bars laid on of one another to serve as framework for a leather cover.

But fuck that, lets use real shields. Metal backing for wooden timbers as tall as alizard.

once we've collected a good amount of food in the seat of kri'kla and made sooomme weapons and armor in the mines, we let the mines focus on mining for a bit and let the seat of kri'kla focus on armaments for a turn... once we've done that, we seek out teh humans

you raise a good point about not giving them too much gold lest we seem rich, and worth capturing. we should give them a third maybe, as a token? it has to be worth giving because we NEED an alliance NEED NEED NEED

and we don't want to take anyone in, and breed them. we need allies, not captives. we still havent even gathered food so i dont know if we can feed ourselves let alone captive humans that serve us better as friends.

clearly the sword was some manner of demon, Kri'kla created the lizard men, but only after creating many other races as practice. We were made to be tough, strong and capable, MAgic is cheating it is a way for the weak to survive, and in fact a viable path to survival, if you aren't a lizard man.

There for humans are our brothers and must be taught the faith and made to serve the priest hood.

TLDR: lets get some humans, brainwash them and make them acolytes who serve our priests with magic.
>>
Dragon Tail Mines:
[C]
The miners in the dragon tail mines enjoy sparring on their breaks, usually with large sticks. One of the lizardmen couldn't find a decent sized stick, so he took a rather large one, when he brought it to the fight he was mocked and told that he couldn't win with such a huge weapon. He begged to differ. The lizardman swung the huge weapon at his opponent, and despite his enemies superior speed, he hit him. The huge raidal arc of the weapon made it difficult to dodge, and the impact was tremendous. Infact the lizards opponent was bruised. Of course they made amends though, lizard folk have good sportsmanship afterall.

After this event it was reported to the high priest, the lizardman in question was escorted back to the capital where he was put to work as a blacksmith, told to create a weapon as big as the branch. He did, and so the greatsword was born.

Seat of Kri'kla:
[C]
The blacksmiths of the capital became aware that they required some sort of protection other than armor during battle, the goblin siege made that lethally apparent. Many of them thought up of strange ideas, but few of them were really practical in battle. Finally a practical idea was accepted, and so it was made. Big circular discs of iron with handles on the back. They called these 'shields'.

Scouts report sightings of lizardman activity on the steppes, the scouts report that a group of about thirty lizardmen are traveling across the steppes towards the south west lake. They are not aware of being sighted.

Dragon Tail Mines:
[D]
After many many months of tailoring, one of the hunter lizards managed to create a leather backpack from sinew and the skins of his kills. When miners used these backpacks they could double their carrying capacity, allowing for much more efficient mining and transportation of the ore.

Seat of Kri'kla:
[B]
Using a series of ropes and wooden trays the lizardmen are able to create a pulley system to easily transport large quantities of ore up elevations.

Finally the underground warrens are completed. Each houses burrow is connected through a series of spcaious corridors, a treasure room has also been added, which doubles as a safe room, a thick wooden door leads to the treasury. The tunnels and rooms in the warrens are clad in polished wood planks.
>>
Huixhol and twenty warriors are sent to initiate diplomatic conversation with the refugees. When contacted the foreign lizardmen seem friendly...
"Where do you come from my kin?" The priest asks.
"We come far from the northern lands, across the deserts and the dragon tail mountains. We seek to be free and independent from our corrupt leaders." The leader of the group replies.
"We come from the same land as us?" Huixhol asks curiously.
"You mean we are the first to make it? Are you the first ones that left?"
"Yes, we are."
"What an honor! After your group deserted the city many others were inspired to follow, but many groups have been hunted down by the lizard king Xuila."
"Would you join our town? We could use more help in our endeavours."
When given the proposition they ponder the thought among each other, but in the end...
"No, but thank you. We seek to forge our own path, we donot want to be governed by anyone else but ourselves."

They are sparsely equipped, only a few crude wooden spears and clubs. You could easily overtake them, but they seem peaceful. What does Huixhol do?

A: Kill them all and loot what they have.
B: Loot everything they have.

At the end of this small speech the leader seems distraught, but in the end he accepts, if only for a few months. The thirty lizardmen are intergrated into the societey easily, as mose lizardmen look alike.

By combining their efforts the wise men of both settlements discovered a breakthrough. One day while they were studying the laws of nature they found that when circular objects are rolled, they tend to stay in motion until something stops it. They found that thick disc-shaped things worked best. They called these wheels. They could only imagine what they could do with such a tool.

The towns designated military kept themselves sharp and ready by sparring with each other most of the day, one of the best fighters among these sparring sessions was a young lad named Anaxes, he was not only a sharp lad by a smart one at that. Anaxes was one of the most promised strategists in the town. He was recognized by the high priest and awarded the status of captain. Many were wary of him due to the recent betrayl of the first captain. But he proved to honorable and just when tested.

With the visitors working the fields some of the towns own villagers were freed up to focus their efforts elsewhere. The high priest decided that he would delegate 10 more workers to the dragon tail mines.

Remembering the human corpses in the south-west forest, the high priest decides that it would be frutitous to try and find and befriend these humans, if they are still alive. He sends a group of 15 well-armed soldiers, lead by captain Anaxes, to explore the south-west forests, he gives the group a total of 300 gold pieces, one of their goals is to find out what the purpose of these pieces are.

[It will take one turn for Anaxes and his band of warriors to reach the southwest forest.]

B for both. We have some fancy burrows and a treasure room, but that wont stop goblins from overrunning our walls again.

Also, with better structural developments our miners would probably become more efficient, making the potential trade of Iron with humans possible.

Due to the sudden influx in villagers the food stocks were quickly depleted. The high priest orders both the mining colony and the capital to search for food. One of the villagers finds a strange purple toad near the coast of the lake, when he cooks it up and eats it he experiences hallucinations and what he describes as 'Spirit visions'.

The exploration party has made it to the edge of the forest.

Anaxes and his men enter the forest, they can feel a strange and forboding presence in the air. The forest is thick and hard to navigate, natural paths twist and turn wildly like rollercoaster. After six hours of journeying they come across what looks like some sort of primitive town. A wooden gate and a stockade surround the town, but there are voices that can be heard from within, mainly grunts. Manly grunts.

Captain Anaxes assures his men that he was trained in diplomacy by the high priest before he left the capital. He stands up and walks up to the wooden gate, as does his warriors. A sentry standing on the wall notices him and readies his bow, Anaxes raises his iron shield to block it, but the sentry doesn't fire, infact he lowers his bow. The sentry is a tall gruff looking man with brown hair, he isn't completely shaved and has some stubble around his chin. He's wearing would could only be assumed to be leather armor, he wields a curved sword of some type and the afformentioned bow.

"Who are you, who owns these lands?" Anaxes hails the guard. The guard just stares blankly back at him. "Damn it all, they don't know a lick of the lizard folk language." It wasn't all that surprising, as the lizard folk tounge was a complex language. The guard turns around and yells out some unknown words, and soon after the gates are opened. Anaxes and his kin walk slowly through the camp, Inside the town is a bunch of broken down huts, men and women are talking and eating, being merry. But when they catch wind of the lizardmen they go silent, and watch. The lizardmen continue onwards through the camp.

One of the guards starts guiding them, to where is unknown. After a few minutes of walking they reach a big shack on a small slope, they go inside. The inside of the shack is carpeted with some sort of soft red material. In the back a strong-looking man sits on a red pillow, two beautiful women at his side. Infront of him is a small circular table that is close to the ground, a wooden plate of what appears to be meat, and a cup of water. The guard stands in the corner, watching the lizardmen.

This appears to be the leader of the tribe.

Anaxes raises his hand and says hello in the lizard language, which in human comes out as "WARHGABHL." Tiny specks of spit hit the leaders face as Anaxes talks. He remains still. Anaxes takes out two gold pieces from his bag and rubs them together, in the process he accidentally crushes the mddles of them, his superior lizard strength was too much for the soft metal. "Trade." Anaxes replied, briefly afterwards the man started flipping through the pages of the book again, muttering the word quietly. Finally after another three minutes he finds it. He cracks a smile and starts flipping through the book again...
A few minutes later and this really starting to wear thin on Anaxes.
"We have...Strong metal, bite animals, health drink, hurt tools, fire rock. Buy?" The man finally speaks.

He leads you out to one of the fires and takes out one of the hot black rocks from the fire with some tongs. He shows it to you and sets it back down, flips through his book and says, "Burn good, make heat."
He then guides you to what you presume is the armory. Inside is a bunch of different weapons, swords, bows with excellent craftsmanship, arrows, maces, spears, galives, and axes. The weapons are similar to the ones made in the capital, but the metal is much whiter and purer.

Anaxes unsheathes his sword and compared it to the one in the armory, he then turns to the chieftan, "Teach us how to make strong steel?" The chieftan shakes his head, "Don't know how. Mountain people know how. We buy from mountain people." Anaxes ponders this thought, of course, the sentry was clearly using iron weapons, and noone around here had shiny weapons, could they just be keeping these around as stock to trade? "How much for fire rock?" Anaxes asks the chieftan. He ponders the thought for a moment, flipping the pages in his book. "Five zero yellow metal for single bag?" He asks if that's acceptable.

Anaxes haggles with the man and he gives fairly easily, he agrees to sell five bags to you for 30 gold a peice. The expedition now has 150 gold left. Anaxes asks if there are more camps like this, he replies by telling you their capital is far down south past the blood marshes. Anaxes then asks him where he can find the mountain people, and he stays quiet for a few moments before roughly saying 'You DON'T find the mountain people. The mountain people find YOU.'

Anaxes asks the chieftan how much a single sword costs, he asks for fifty gold if Anaxes and his party stay the night and drink health drink with him. He then clarifies that he usually sells the swords for 100 gold, as they are very powerful weapons.

Anaxes gives the smithys the fire rocks, they add them to the fires in the forge. They are named Coal, by the lizardmen. The forge heats up to tremendous levels, allowing for sharper and better weapons to be made.

>>19819253

I think that we should investigate in heating, For starters we should have a heated room so that a small number of lizards can stay awake during winter to tend beasts of burden.

We also need to figure out some way to hide the smoke, unless we want unwelcome guests.
>>
>>19819294

On second thoughts, we could use warmblooded animals to help keeping the lizards warm. I think people kept livestock and other animals in their homes to better keep the heat.
>>
>>19819294
Perhaps a series of small but very long tunnels spanning out in every direction from the very centre of the heating room so as to collect the smoke (as it will rise upwards) and spreading the smoke out thin. Basically the tunnels would come up to the surface in multiple places in each direction. This should allow for very little smoke and from no on obvious direction
>>
>>19819318
Although the main problem I see with this is the potential for losing heat. Then again if we don't get rid of the smoke somehow we are equally fucked.

Dragon Tail Mines:

Being such hard workers they were, the high priest commisioned better living quarters for the miners there. Workers from the capital traveled to the mines and made their living spaces much more cozy. Adding fur leathers to the walls and one on the floor for sleeping, they also made small tables that hovered close to the floor, inspired by the Uutlans design.

Seat of Kri'kla:
[D]
Other than strengthening the weapons made at the forge, the coals were soon known to be a good fuel source for fires, and by proxy, heat. The lizardmen built a crude metal box resembling a furnace, next they created iron pipes and connected them to the furnace, they had the pipes spread cross each room and tunnel, small holes were carved so that heat could escape the pipes. Once it was finished, however, heat wasn't the only thing that escaped the pipes. Thick clouds of smoke flooded the tunnels, making it impossible to breathe. Thankfully nobody was killed in the accident. The worker lizards had no idea what to do, they had no clear way to ventilate the smoke other than building pipes up to the surface, but in order to do that they would have to dig giant holes all the way to the warrens, something that would take months of hard work...

Workers at the dragon tail mines report sighting of huge birds high in skies, circling the steppes and then returning to the dragon tail mountains.

Thanks for the info, for future reference if we need some people awake during winter (which I think we should do anyway for safety once we have the place heated) they should do so in rotation. Each set of lizardmen should be on gaurd/whatever for no more than a week at a time.

Just to clarify, if one set of lizardmen is put on gaurd duty for a week in the middle of winter will they pass out right away anyway or will they manage to stay awake for their month? Seems like a silly question but I want to understand the semantics of the situation entirely.

What we should do is set up a lockdown for our warrens. Yeah I know that winters are insane and it'd be crazy if something attacked us in our sleep during winter in the first place, but better safe than sorry.
>>

Since the heating plan is fucked I agree with this.
>>
>>19819534

Maybe it would be better to build a hibernation base in the mine. We could leave a small group of lizards at the city, and when they have given us the all clear signal we would move back with the main group?

Dragontail Mines:
[C]
Large axes and hammers were unwieldly and unfit for combat, they were unbalanced and didn't even inflict as much damage as needed. Smithys began to create schematics for new, more versatile axes and hammers. This was the birth of the hand axe and the warhammer. The axes were best for chopping limbs off and cutting into armor, while the hammer was best at pummeling the enemy into tiny bits, they were truly grisly tools of death...

Seat of Kri'kla:
[B]
>D wouldn't do anything, if you want to try to find a way to ventilate smoke then B would be the right choice.
Continuing their efforts to ventilate the smoke the worker lizards scheme non stop. Eventually they come up with a feasible schematic. They would build long metal pipes that connected to the main smoke pipes, these pipes would run all the way up the side of the building, hugging the walls closely. It would end at the 2nd floor of each house, where a chimney would be located. In a matter of days they created the network. With the pipes hugging the walls the workers could easily dig out the required space and connect the pipes. Now the only problem was that smoke was rising at a constant rate, and faint clouds of smoke and soot were held high above the town. But at least now the lizard folk would be warm and cozy in their homes.

[D1]
Watchmen armed with spears and bows are stationed around the dragontail mine in an attempt to thwart any bird attacks...Every few days a giant bird, which now appears to be an eagle, circles the mine...

Mines: B. Could we possibly build some sort of shelter with spikes affixed to the top of it over the open area of the mine outpost? Would this cause a problem with lack of heat and sunlight for the lizardmen?

Seat: B. Begin work on extra security for the burrows during winter. Create a series of heavy blastdoors or safedoor type constructs that need to be rolled into place by the lizardmen. These will serve as protection against invaders and could be used to funnel any intruders in ambush area's. Have them totally block off sections of the tunnel system when in place but able to be rolled into a carved out section of the wall when not in use.

I just realised how difficult it would be to get these underground. To make this easier, have them brought down in halves or quarters and have the black mortar applied to them to put together each full blast door once underground. Cover the side facing outwards in mortar as well to hide the fact that its not a truely solid object.
>>
>>19820142
Include a few watch posts on the edges of the mining outpost to keep an eye out for the birds if this shelter goes up. We still need to see whats coming.

Dragontail Mines:
[D]
The miners in dragontail have often experimented with ways of transporting ore from the cave to the stock piles, but due to the twists, turns, and changes in elevation within the cave they haven't been able to properly create a transportation system. On one such experiment they created a decent sized wago and attached wheels to the sides via iron spike and hammer. They knew that the cart had to be guided somehow, but they couldn't find a feasible solution.

Seat of Kri'kla:
[B]
Small thin walls of wood and buckets of black mortar are carried down to the warrens, the walls of wood were thickly coated with the mortar and left to dry, what was created was a thick and heavy barrier that only the might of lizardmen could move. The workers carve out sections of the walls to store the barriers. The workers still aren't sure how to use wheels efficiently. The 'blast doors' are little more than thick and heavy barriers that are placed at every junction in case the lizardmen need to contain a certain area or quarantine a certain tunnel.

The giant eagle kidnapped one of our watchmen today, the speed of the beast was amazing, even the watchmens arrows were too slow to hit the beast...

Our numbers are small. Very small. If we are attacked again, we will surely perish. How then, do we compensate? Our walls and gate helped little during the last siege. They simply weren't enough. Static defenses are our only hope. Here are my ideas to improve our defenses (it's two posts):

A) We need a double wall system. Constantinople and whatnot. If we can't hold them at the first wall, the second will surely stop them. After the first wall is breached, we can create a kill zone between the two walls.

B) We need dedicated archer towers. Much taller than the walls. With crenelations and roofs to protect from enemy missile fire. I was thinking about situating these between the sets of walls. That way they can fire at attackers on the outside and fire at their backs as they assault the second set of walls. The only access to the towers should be a set of tunnels from the inside of the camp. That would ensure they can't be stormed.
>>
C) The wooden gate was the weakness. It should be fine for the outer wall, but we need an iron gate for the inside. Make that shit out of metal. They shouldn't be able to burn or cut it down with axes. They'll have to go over the walls if they want to get in.

D) We will need more manpower to complete this project. Hire some of the humans to work on the project. Additionally, consider hiring some of them to act as guards during the winter months so we aren't completely defenseless.

E) To take full advantage of the towers, we should work on making ballistas. They would be devastating up there. We have the wood, we have the sinew, we have the iron. How does that sound?

Welp, there they are. That's my Mad defense project. Thoughts? And yes, I know my map was super shitty and a ripoff. Fuck you.

Dragontail Mines:
>Finishing unfinished tech first.
[D]
After many weeks of work the miners find that they can put the cart on rails to guide it, so they start creating iron rails. They build sturdy ramps over and under elevations, and within a couple days they finish. Productivity skyrockets.

Seat of Kri'kla:
[B]
The construction of an outer wall begins, it'll take about a month in total to complete.

[B1]
The watchmen are now taking refuge under proper cover, the giant eagle has seemed to lost interest and wandered deeper into the steppes.

Food levels are dropping low, the crop fields are too small and all the space within the walls has been used. A new farm needs to be made outside the walls.

Quick question do we have cast iron or wrought iron? Cast iron right? Because with Iron and coal \ charcoal we can make our own steel. If we have cast iron what we would need to do is we heat the iron and in some form remove carbon from it this can be done by blowing oxygen into the molten iron which means we would have to make some fan object to get enough oxygen.
>>
>>19820737
Loving these threads, it's a great quest indeed. I have a question though. How do you decide how well things turn out? Are you rolling dice behind the scenes or making judgment calls about how well you think something should work based on the plans, our peoples skills etc etc? Or something else entirely?

I love these threads to death. The simplicity of the story, the control of the players, it all clicks together nicely. I really do like the intensity and difficulty as well. Keep up the good work; this is the best RP thread I've seen in a long time. I might even do something like this of my own someday in my local game group if possible.

Mines: A. Look for any mushrooms, insects, fungus or even lakes with fish inside the mining caves that we can use to supplement our food supply in that settlement.

Seat: B. Set up new farms outside the walls near the lake, dig out a few small ditches from the lake to act as irrigation for the new farms and grow the fastest growing foods that we can.
