>Fate Points: 1
>Signature spells: Summon Elemental, Control Magic, Soulfire
>Location: Carved Fortress, Orcish lands.

The Venerable King and some of his knights lead you and your companions through the Carved Fortress, where you see orcs standing by, worried- women, children, even non-knights. They were standing in some kind of. . . vigil.

"Several days ago, she simply. . fell." The king said. "Her magic. . it's failing her. She's aging."
>>
>>19806757
Hmm, when did we reveal Gareth? Also since both king and queen are the same age maybe the king will start aging soon.
>>
>>19806745
"When, exactly? How many days ago? "
Wanderer gave her it.
>>
>>19806757
"Several days ago? What day exactly? How fast is she aging? Is there any way to slow it so far?"
>>
"When, exactly? How many days ago?"
"Four days ago." He said. "It was early evening."
You'd returned Gareth's face to him only the day before yesterday, so that most likely wasn't the cause.
"How fast is she aging?"
"A day becomes ten years." The king said. He looked to the ground.
"Is there any way to slow it so far?"
"Not that we've found." He said. "We're not. . we're not wizards."
"Since you and her are the same age, will you start aging soon?"
"I don't think so." He said. "I have my magic, but I never use it. She used hers constantly. I'm not sure if that would matter, but it might."

Soon enough, he led you through the hall into a small, simple room. The Venerable Queen lay there, eyes closed, lying in the bed. She was wrinkled and her skin was pale, and dry. Her staff lay in the corner of the room, unused.
>>
>>19806835
Can we try giving her some of our magic?
>>
>>19806835
Investigate.
We have Control Magic, we seem to be good at sensing this shit, see what's happened.
>>
You close your eyes, and put your hands on the queen, sensing for her magic.
What you sense, instead, is a black hole. Draining your magic just by touching it, like some kind of sponge absorbing it like water. Despite that, you recognize what it is- It's the queen's truth-telling spell, dragging energy from her fruitlessly.
"Why would someone keep a spell on while they're asleep?" Ell asked, seeing the same thing you feel.
>>
>>19806866
If we were to silence her would that cancel her spell?
>>
>>19806866
Wow, she really is obsessed with lies.
Can we just use Control Magic to turn the spell off?
I wonder why it's suddenly being so draining.
>>
Explain what you see to the king. Ask him for permission to turn the spell off.
>>
>>19806866
"Something's gone wrong with her Talent. She might have tried to pursue a Truth that simply couldn't be known, at least not through mere magical force. If it isn't brought under control or outright removed, then I don't know what can be done. It's simply going to devour her magic until there is nothing left."

>>19806900
Seconding this. Metamagical fuckery IS one of our specialties, so manipulating her Talent to stop draining her shouldn't be hard.
>>
"It's the spell." You say. "The truth seeing spell. She might have tried to persue a truth that simply couldn't be known, at least not through mere magical force. If it isn't brought under control or outright removed, then I don't know what can be done. It's simply going to devour her magic until there is nothing left." You say.
The king nods. "Then remove it." He says.
You focus, and tear the spell away from her, reducing it into nothing- threads of a spell, if anything.
She trembles, and you feel small trickles of power start regenerating inside of her body.
In her sleep. . . she casts the spell again, without words or somatic components- just raw thoughtpower. You remember reading that it's possible, but extraordinarily difficult.
"What." Ell said.
The spell this time, is different. It isn't a black hole- more like a small drain. Her trickles of power are more than enough to power the spell.
>>
>>19806946
> Her trickles of power are more than enough to power the spell.

Are they enough to regenerate her body as well?
>>
>>19806946
>Reflexively casting detect lies in her sleep
Holy fuck she has trust issues.

Pour a bit of extra power into her to try and get her well enough to wake up.
>>
>>19806946
Would she regenerate better or faster if we brought her to our ship? The flower there might help.
>>
rolled 21 = 21

>>19806946
"Well... I don't know if it will open back up if she gets more power, but it can't hurt to try. If it does, we're no worse off than before, and if it doesn't, then 'tis over with and the Venerable Queen saved and the spell back under control."

Try to resuscitate her with life magic and plain ol' pure magic to replace what she's lost. Try to make sure the truth spell doesn't start sucking more power than trickles for the time being.
>>
>>19806946
Since the elfs now have no problem with exporting galadiels light we should give her some so she can make mana tea.
>>
>>19806946
"Your majesty, it would be wise to talk with her about trust issues she might have, she cast it reflexively again, after I stopped. It isn't as large of a drain as previously, and she should recover somewhat at least. "
>>
"Well, I don't know if it will open back up if she gets more power, but it can't hurt to try. If it does, we're no worse off than before, and if it doesn't, then 'tis over with and the Venerable Queen saved, and the spell back under control." You say, and try to refuel her with magic, to replace what she's lost. . but most of your magic just falls into the ether. You are able to refill her with energy, but it makes you knees shake. Your muscles aren't aching yet, so you still have some amount of power left.
"Your majesty, it would be wise to talk with her about trust issues she might have. she cast it reflexively again, after I stopped it- It isn't as large of a drain as previously, and she should recover somewhat at least." You say. The Venerable King nods, and the queen starts coughing. Her eyes open; they're milky white, and almost blind.
"You're awake!" The king says. "I've been worried."
"What. . what happened?" The queen asked. "Last I knew, I was speaking with that strange, cloaked man. . ."
>>
>>19807041
Gareth. Well,he might have introduced himself as the Wanderer. Don't worry, he's dead.
>>
>>19807041
"Oh, you met Gareth. He lies a lot. Your truth spell almost killed you from the magic drain."
>>
>>19807041
"Oh not again..."
>>
>>19807041
"That handily explains the cause of all this nonsense, Venerable King. His name is Gareth, in case you were wondering."
>>
>>19807041
You attempted to get the truth from a Concept. To me, that sounds quite impossible, and a reason for this.
>>
>>19807041
"You could never really see his face, no matter the light, right? What were you talking about?"
>>
>>19807069
>immortal queen dying
>nonsense
Think better your words next time kid.
>>
"That handily explains the cause of all of this, Venerable King. His name is Gareth, in case you were wondering. You attempted to get the truth from a being without an identity. To me, that sounds quite impossible. Most likely the reason for this."
"Reason for this?" The queen asked. "The reason for what?"
"Your truth spell almost killed you from the magic drain." You say. "You could never really see his face, no matter the light, right? What were you talking about?"
"We were talking about. . . you." The queen said. "And he kept alluding to how you were one of my enemies. Pathetic- I'd seen better manipulation from children. However, he seemed to know about my truth spell, and only asked questions. At least, until I blacked out."
>>
>>19807100
That prick Gareth was involved. It is automatically nonsense because that is what he does; cause nonsense. Sometimes very dire, deadly nonsense, but all nonsense.
>>
>>19807126
"Do you remember the last question he asked?"
>>
"Do you remember the last question he asked?"
"He asked me what I knew of the void queen." She said. "And I responded with 'nothing, what do you know of her?' I was never able to find out if his response was the truth or a lie- He simply answered, and I passed out. I... don't remember what he answered, though."
>>
>>19807183
"Blast. He mentioned her before he died, as well. I find myself quite curious about her, now."
>>
>>19807183
Hm. Gareth worked for her. She's powerful, having a man come concept working for her as a pawn. And dangerous. Very dangerous, emplying someone like him.
>>
"Blast." You say. "He mentioned her before he died, as well. I find myself quite curious about her, now."
"We could do that ritual and ask him." Raziel said.
"Ritual?" The queen asked.
"Gareth is dead. We can bring his spirit to undeath and force him to tell the truth." Raziel said. "We did it once before, and it seemed to work out fine that time."
". . Is that necromancy?" The queen asked.
"Yes." Raziel responded.
"... I have no objections." The queen said, finally, and lay back down in bed. Her legs and arms creaked as she did.
>>
>>19807239
"I'll have to be careful when I speak with him... Venerable Queen, will your youth and energy come back to you with your magical power? You've been affected terribly by the drain, it was like a sinkhole in your very soul. I may have to call someone else before I call Gareth."

Time to release Eidolon of his burden. We'll ask for his third boon that he try to restore the Venerable Queen to normal, and let him go to Keledanis. Of course we'll caution him about being ever at the ready as he goes, but we can't keep him cooped up. It's not right.
>>
>>19807239
On a slightly related topic, I think we should ask Eidolon for our last boon on the last day we can do the ritual. Tell him we now consider ourselves even and let him pass on. I'm not really comfortable to keep him in that statue for the next 100 years.

If people are afraid he will harm us again, just ask for him to never harm us or our friends again.
>>
>>19807266
This dammit. I thought we weren't a monster.
>>
"I'll have to be careful when I speak with him... Venerable Queen, will your youth and energy come back to you with your magical power? You've been affected terribly by the drain. It was like a sinkhole in your very soul."
"It. . It won't." she said. "Our magic only stops us from aging- it does not grant us youth. I believe I will have to stay like this." She said.

"I may have to call someone else before I call Gareth." you say, and hold up the rabbit statuette.

"Are you certain you want to ask him for his third boon?" Raziel asked.

>>19807308
"I think it would be incredibly cruel to keep him around. Don't you?"

Btw. shouldn't Mar be able to help her?
>>
>>19807308
Call Eidolon, >>19807239
>>
>>19807308
If he can, yes. If he can't, let him go. Apologize for keeping him around longer, either way.
>>
>>19807308
Ask him about helping the queen first. If we can rejuvinate her without Eidolon I would rather ask him not to bother us and our friends as a third boon.
>>
>>19807308
"I'm positive. Summon Eidolon."

When Eidolon is summoned,

"Eidolon, I'm sorry for trapping and terrifying you. I needed to think, I... Projected my fears upon you, to be completely honest. When Ragnarok was simply annihilated, poof, gone, nonexistant in any way, there was a deep sense of all-pervading dread. I couldn't understand what kind of monster could do such a thing, and I feared for any soul that had any link to me, that they might be snuffed out, too. But you have no such fear, and are wise and powerful, moreso, you are experienced, where I am not. You can handle yourself in that realm beyond ours, and I can't keep you from Keledanis. I'd be just as much a monster as the Void Queen to keep you trapped out of some desire to 'protect' your immortal soul. For my third boon, I ask that you use your skills in magic to restore the Venerable Queen's youth. Goodbye, Eidolon, and give Keledanis my regards. Please be careful out there."

>>19807416
Wouldn't you be terrified at the prospect of a century of loneliness, trapped in a silly rabbit statuette? Especially being trapped out of a fascist desire to protect you? Do remember C.S. Lewis's wise words on this very subject.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
>>
"Mar, can you help her?"
"I can heal wounds, but I can't make someone younger." Marigold said. "If it's even possible, I need more training."

"I think it would be incredibly cruel to keep him around. Don't you?"
Raziel bit her lip, and didn't respond. "Because the compact is still active, I just need to summon him. . " she said, and closed her eyes. She whispered a spell, and eidolon's spectre appeared.
"What do you want from me?" He asked. He was angry, but not as angry as he'd been last time.
"Can you help the Venerable Queen return to normal?" You ask.
He sniffed, and looked her up and down.
"Yes, I can. Not completely, but I can make things as if she had never aged. If this happens again, I won't be able to, but I can."

"Eidolon, I'm sorry for trapping you. I needed to think, I... Projected my fears upon you, to be completely honest. When Ragnarok was simply annihilated, poof, gone, nonexistant in any way, there was a deep sense of all-pervading dread. Right, let ask eidlon to help
>>
>>19807415
It seemed like it was just draining our energy ineffectually with the normal drain that the queen deals with constantly. Undoing 4 days of that black hole would take metric shit-tons of energy that I don't think we have. And we need to free Eidolon anyway so we may as well get him to do it.
>>
He gave you a straight look. . . then nodded. "I will. You should do it too. And Ell- Keep practicing- Your talent is stronger than mine."
"What?!" Ell asks.
"Go to that one elven genius girl- Kyvann's kid. Learn from her." He said, and then he turned to the Queen. You feel a strong magic presence of shapeshifting, tinged with necromancy, and then the queen was her younger self.
"The compact is complete." He said, and pointed to the rabbit. "Smash the phylactery."

You hear whispering. Whispers promising... death, doom, devouring your power and your soul alike, if you don't obey. Something... not malicious, not cruel, just a strong, unconquerable Fact. You hardly have a choice in the matter- you smash the rabbit into the ground. It shatters, and Eidolon starts to fade.
>>
>>19807460
Aw, we don't get to keep the pretty rabbit as a keepsake? Couldn't we have released his soul with magic instead of smashing it?
>>
rolled 53 = 53

>>19807480
Well, let's reform it, then. Just as a mundane brick-become-rabbit-statue, no mystical hoodoo about it.
>>
>>19807460
Well that was lovely. Venerable Queen, would you care for some tea?

Also we should introduce her to Kell.
>>
>>19807460
"Well. That's that, then. How do you feel, Venerable Queen?"
>>
>>19807492
Probably not the greatest idea, leave it destroyed.
>>
"Well." You say. "that's that, then. How do you feel, Venerable Queen?"
"I still feel drained." She said. "My magic is still weak- but I suspect that will go away over time." She pushes herself up- her legs notably don't creak. "I believe I may have almost died." She said, and bowed to you. "I believe I have you to thank. All of you."
"We should go tell the people that you'll live." The king said. "They've been standing vigil."
>>
>>19807563
"Perhaps a rousing festival is in order, to chase away the dourness of the now-ended vigil?"
>>
>>19807563
It was no trouble at all Venerable Queen. I'm just glad that you're doing better. Have you met Kell?
>>
"Perhaps a rousing festival is in order." You say.
"Perhaps." The king said. "But festivals aren't good for our young. Too much for them to see and do- it makes them lose control. Instead, we will start a tournament."
"And a carving." the queen said. "This needs to be carved- by me and my brother, personally."
"It was no trouble at all, Venerable Queen. I'm just glad that you're doing better. Have you met Kell?"
"Kell?" She asked. "I must admit, I know little of your companions."
You drag Kell out of Grayson's saddlebag.

The troll graws at her, twists out of your grip, and then hugs her legs.
The queen went silent for a moment. . and then giggled. It was rather unlike her.
"This is the one that's supposed to rally all trolls from our forests?" She asked, smiling brightly. "I suspect he'll get to do it when he's much larger."
>>
>>19807653
Yes, I don't think he's quite ready yet.
>>
>>19807653
I'm sorry but it might take a bit. I don't want to try and have him convince the trolls when he's still this young.

But isn't he absolutely adorable.
>>
>>19807653
"Believe me, I tried to make him grow faster. But he just ate up the magic. He's downright voracious. I'm not certain what he is, compared to normal trolls. He was made out of the cuttings of an ancient troll, one of three I met employed by the Hobgoblins, though it was only a cutting speaking relatively. It was about the size of a small boulder made of bark and vines. Speaking of the Hob, did you happen to hear about the treaties, and the peace in the south? Oh, I have so much to tell you! It's been far too long since we've seen one another."

Fill her in on everything. Our adventures so far, The Game, the advances of our efforts for a coalition, the formal founding of New Arcturus that will come soon, etcetera.
>>
>>19807725
We should let them tell the rest of the orcs to stop standing around mourning before we get into proper chat. It's not nice to keep them waiting.
>>
"Yes, I don't think he's quite ready yet." you say. "But isn't he absolutely adorable?"
She picks him up, and his arms reach for her, not long enough to actually grab her.
"You seem to be bringing him up right." She said. "And yes, he is." She said, and hugged the troll. "Brother, can you go tell everyone that they can call the vigil complete?"
The venerable king nods, and leaves the room.

"Believe me, I tried to make him grow faster." you say. "But he just ate up the magic.

You end up going on a long tangent, explaining everything- the game, the hobgoblins, the coalition. . .and New Arcturus.

"You mean to say. . that in the short few weeks since you were last here, you. . ended a five hundred year long game, cleared up a blight upon the warped lands, closed the portal from demons, and now you're overseeing the creation of an entirely new nation, where people of every race can live."

You nod.

She puts her hand on her chin, thinking for a moment.
"I will support you." She said, and motioned toward Raziel. "You make friends of the coven, you tame trolls, and you defeat beings who are little more than concepts. If anyone can change the world, it is you."

I've been a very busy person. There have been things that needed fixing so I did so.

So how do tournaments usually work here?
>>
>>19807818
"Well, I certainly try. The Warped Land still needs a whole lot of clearing- there's undoubtedly a teensy bit of astral fire left, the place is one giant mess of Ogrish ruins, and then there's the mutants which need curing or exterminating- but New Arcturus is well on its way. There's still work to do on other continents, as I do have to go East and meet that Tyr fellow who leads the Dwarves, and then there's apparently Ogres to the West, and who knows what they're like after a humbling miniature apocalypse and a few hundred years. Hopefully, more amiable than the ones from our continent."
>>
"I've been a very busy person." you say. "There have been things that needed fixing, so I did so. How do tournaments usually work here?"
"Our knights- our greatest, the ones with the most willpower and control, fight duels. But that's not what the tournament is completely. It's a celebration, in a way, of surpassing our nature. We have some people produce poetry, make crafts, art. . .It's rather dour, compared to human celebrations, and lasts several weeks, but it's how we celebrate." She said, and stood. "You're welcome to watch, but it will take several days to get the news out."
>>
>>19807924
"I'll be sure to return in time, but there's still much to do. Until the next time, Venerable Queen!"

Time to return to the Jormungandr and call on Gareth, and tie up any loose ends he's left with his damned mischief.
>>
>>19807924
It sounds like it could be interesting. And I haven't had an actual break since I came here. The recovery process of New Arcturus is currently underway and I won't speed it up by fussing over it.
>>
>>19807955
Oh yeah that fucker. Let's do this.
>>
>>19807924
Can non-orcs take part? Are there fantastic prizes to be won?

>>19807955
We can't do that until night, the ritual needs the stars to be visible.

>>19807974
>We can't do that until night, the ritual needs the stars to be visible.

In that case, we need to research orcish cuisine. Especially the local teas.
>>
"I'll be sure to return in time, but there's still so much to do." You say. "Until the next time, Venerable Queen."
"And you too, your majesty." She said.

You and your companions go back up to the Jormungandr. Ell seems awfully quiet on the walk. When you get there, the three kalak who had stayed behind are standing there, belongings in hand- Kaliel, Dariel, and Neiriel.
"Dariel wanted us to wait before we say farewell." Kaliel said, and shrugged.
"Sadriel is in walking distance from here, and I figured it.. wouldn't be best for any non-kalak to meet him." Neiriel said. "Azariel made him swear not to harm his kin, but Sadriel likely won't offer you or your companions the same courtesy."
>>
>>19808021
"Oh... and if I turned into a Kalak?"
>>
>>19808043
Turn the whole crew into Kalak. Except Kristoph. Kristoph can stay behind.

>>19808021
"And if I told him I was on friendly chit-chatting terms with Azariel himself?"

I probably could get around that by shapeshifting everyone into Kalak... but I understand... it was nice to meet you all. Kaliel try to learn to understand socializing, it'll do you good. Neiriel I wish you the best with your child I'll be sure to visit you to see him or her I;m sure they'll be beautiful. Dairel I wish you luck in your studies I'm sure you'll be the best.

"Oh... and if I turned into a Kalak?"
"He's blind." Neiriel says. "Your form doesn't matter- he'd taste your mind and know you're not someone he'd met before."
"And if you told him I was on friendly terms with Azariel himself?"
"He'd hardly care." She said, and bowed. "Come along, kids."
"I'm not a kid." Kaliel said. "I don't *have* to come with you, you know."
"You want to learn what I know from being a healer in Ursae, don't you? About sicknesses and inherited traits?" Neiriel asked.
". . .Yeah." Kaliel said.
"Then you'd better come along." She said.

"I will miss you all." you say, hugging the three of them in turn. "I do hope you'll come visit once things are... set up, in New Arcturus."
"Well, once Kaliel learns how to fly, we can visit." Neiriel said.
"Bye, Ishelda!" Dariel says.
"Take care of Bob." Kaliel said.
The three of them walk off, Kaliel's velociraptor bulked up and carrying all of her cages and books.

You find yourselves on the Jormungandr again, but it hasn't lifted off yet. Ell has his hand on his chin, and he seems distracted.
"We can start the ritual to interrogate Gareth anytime." Raziel said.
>>
>>19808117
It might be gone after the timeskip. This could be the last chance we have.

Yay!
>>
>>19808173
That's... That's kinda creepy, to be honest.
>>
"Ell, what's up? Thinking about what Eidolon said?"
"Yeah." he said. "He tells me that my talent is stronger than his. . and then tells me to learn from Kiyara. I need to decide if I should listen to him or not."
>>
You want to pursue that dream of being more then you are.... I think you should do it. Journey with me for a little while longer though. One more adventure before we say goodbye for a while.
>>

"Forget about listening to him or not. Decide if that's what you want for yourself. There's nothing stopping you from learning to use your talent on your own."

>>
>>19808191
It's a good opportunity, she's a lovely person and I think the two of you get along well. Remember it isn't your powers or Talent that make you who you are, it's how you use them. You aren't going to become Eidolon just because you learn to harness your natural abilities.
>>
"Forget about listening to him or not. Decide if that's what you want for yourself. There's nothing stopping you from learning to use your talent on your own."
"Yeah, but. . I want to know your opinion." He said, looking up at you.
"You want to persue that dream of being more than you are... I think you should do it."
"Really?"
You nod. "Journey with me for a little while longer, though. One more adventure, before we say goodbye for a while."
"I will." He said. "You need me to fly the Jormungandr, anyway, don't you?"
You don't mention that with your signature spell of controlling magic, you can use it just as well as he.
"So." He said, with a grin. His dilemma resolved, he seemed a bit more cheerful. "Where to?"
>>

We did tell Marigold we'd show here the island with the birds, didn't we?
>>
>>19808245
Not sure yet, give me a bit to interrogate the ghost of a man who died because I gave him back his face. He might have some plans still in motion that I would like to fix.

To infinity, and beyond
>>
>>19808245
"That... is an excellent question."

Guys, I kinda forgot where we were supposed to head after this.
>>
>>19808245
Is there anywhere else we need to go? Seems like half way through the last thread is a bit late to start a new adventure.
>>
>>19808245
Interrogate Gareth first then let's decide on a course.
>>
>>19808245
"Well, first, we need to call Gareth and see just how much else he's mucked up, and we'll have to fix all of it."

Then, >>19808263 and then maybe we should head to the Crescent Island, there's surely more to find than just a dragon's head and a book.
>>
>>19808276
>You can go see Kyvann and Kiyara, or you can go to the crypt. That's all I really have left on the *must do* list, but it's for the best literary flow if you visit the crypt last.

"Let's go north." You say.
"North?"
You check the map, and circle the island. "Here- I told Marigold I'd show her."
Grayson grinned; he was the only one here- other than you- that had been to the place you're talking about.
"Right." Ell says, and reattunes the compass.

"Oh, Scholar!" Marigold cries, running off of the gangplank, eyes bright. "They're so tiny!" She says, picking up one of the small, flightless birds. It cheeps at her, and she hugs it.
>>
Let's ask Ell what he wants to do, this is his last adventure after all. Unless of course Gareth put in motion the end of the world or something.

>Closer to a Kiwi or a miniature moa.

You spend the rest of the day watching Marigold get attacked by the birds- for whatever reason, they seem to really like her.
"This place is strange." Gehenna said. "It's much too warm for being this far north, and there are only two types of living things here. The flowers, and the birds."
Raziel shrugged. "This looks like one of those mysteries- something to do with the very nature of magic. It's probably best to ignore it."
"What are with those birds, though?" Kristoph asked. "They just keep climbing on Marigold."
Marigold was lying back in the field of flowers, giggling, as the birds swarmed her.
"Hey, Kristoph." You say, a mischievous look in your eye. "I talked to the high lady Cerulean. Heard a few stories."
"Stories? What kind of stories?"
You grin.

Soon enough, after you and Raziel relentlessly tease Kristoph for an hour, the sun started to go down, and Marigold came back, two birds in her hands. She set them down, and climbed aboard, covered in downy feathers.
"That was fun." She said. "But tiring. Thank you for showing me this place."
"Ell, let's go to The Weave next." you say, and he nods, putting his palm on the activation crystal. Behind you, Raziel and Gehenna were setting up the ritual circle- it seems that they have the same idea you did.

Time to interrogate Gareth.
>>
>>19808375
>>19808384
Aww crap, Exa is gonna turn this into us comforting Raz about her femininity.
>>

>>
>>19808465
So many questions to ask. Except we'll ask about the void queen first and then she'll turn up and wipe everyone out of existence. Fucking Void Queens.
>>
The ritual goes underway, and you lightly bop the skull on the head, before sliding it into the center of the circle.

The cloak appears, with a face suspended underneath the hood.

"I have been bound by the Arakoatoa Compact, and must give you three boons. In trade, you must free me after my boons have been given. If either of us break this compact, their souls and lifeblood are forfeit, and the Arakoatoa will arrive. Do you agree to this compact, Ishelda, Queen of Arcturus?" Gareth's voice said, almost robotically. You couldn't tell what his facial expression was.
>>
>>19808551
I agree to this compact, Gary.
>>
>>19808551
"I agree to the compact. Nice to see you again, Gareth, you damnable ruffian. Do you know how much trouble you've caused me? Even Eidolon didn't spread strife as well as you did. I'm quite cross with you right now, you know."
>>
>>19808551
Yes Gareth, I do. For my first boon you must answer all of my questions truthfully.
>>
"I agree to this compact... Gary."
His expression darkens into anger.
"For my first boon, you must answer all of my questions truthfully."
He glared.
"Ask." He almost spit out.

>Warning! some questions are volatile! Think before asking!
>>
rolled 51 = 51

Of course. Basically the first boon is the same info one we had from Eidolan.

Questions to ask:
What plans has he set in motion that could effect us.
How did he know that the Demons would invade Arcturus
Was he the Rogue in truth or did he just use the name to get to Marigold.

Before we ask about the Void Queen we should guard against scrying... our ship shield should be good enough but just in case I'm rolling for it too.

"Do you have any plans, schemes, plots or anything of the sort still running or set to run in case of your death?"
"No." He responds. He doesn't elaborate- it seems he's going to do this as difficult as possible.
"How did you know that the demons would invade Arcturus?"
"The archdemon came through first. I felt it. The others usually follow."
"Are you the rogue in truth?"
"No." He says.
"So you just used the name to get to Marigold?"
"No. I used the appearance." He said. "Your religious figure was eerily similar to my looks."
"Why were you mean to me? What were you trying to achieve?"
"The entire world." He said.
"Why did you kidnap Marigold from our old world?"
"Her talent." He said. "And her gullibility."
>>

"You never answered why you were mean to me!"
"It was fun." He said. "I lost nothing from it, and I could use your aminosity later."
"How could you travel between worlds?"
"Magic." He said.

He grinned. Damnit, hoisted by your own petard.
"Why did you need Marigold's ability?"
"I didn't need it. I needed an unwitting agent in place. High Lord Ursae lost a daughter recently, so Marigold would be a good substitute. She would then be adopted, and become the newest High Lady Ursae. Then I could use her."
"What was Vanko?"
"An illusion." He said. "Used to manipulate you. Just a few words about some random bullshit about sorcery and 'true magic', and you believed me."

"Was what you said about the demons being immortal true?"
"No." He said. "I wanted you to feel foolish and come to Vanko for advice next time."
"What do you know about demons?"
"Very little, as they don't speak. They feed on magic." He said. "The only ones with minds are archdemons, and those are the precursors to an invasion. They can create hellfire, and illusions, but they cannot create illusions of someone's blood relatives."
"Now, are you sure you don't have any plans left over that I haven't completely ruined yet?"
"Positive." He said. "Most of my plans predicated upon myself being alive."
"Elaborate further on the method you used to travel between worlds."
"That is not a question. that is an order. I'm considering that as my second boon. I opened portals with magic, then stepped through. There, elaborated, and my second boon is complete."

He had a shit-eating grin on his face.

Oh, I'll stand by the Arakkoatoa's judgement, but do you really want to bother him over a single boon? As a sidenote, I'll remind you that once your boons are up the Void Queen is going to be waiting, after you've failed her, and lost all your power..."
>>
"You do realize the more boons you burn through, the faster the Void Queen gets her hands on you."
He grinned.
"I do." He says.
"What was the precise method through which you opened portals?"
"First, I incanted Velidara the Archmage's collary, which allows a translocation spell to be changed into a portal. Then I incant a general translocation spell, with one marker being the location I want the portal to be. Then I used a little charm I learned from an archdemon, and threw the other marker for the destination into another world. Then I pump enough magic into it to allow it to bridge the gap between worlds. Done."

". . What can you tell me about the void queen?"
"I can tell you lots." He said. Then pantomimed zipping up his lips. "Doesn't mean I will, though."
"What do you know about the void queen?"

So, you wanted him to reject it, right? That's why you asked something we should all realize he'd refuse?

"Wait, before you go

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?"
>>
"You're a fool." You say.

"Feh, I am." He said. "But we're all fools. I'm a fool, you're a fool..."
"So. bloody. Stubborn. I ask that you just... just go, gareth. Shoo. Go on with your afterlife. If you value your freedom so much that you won't even take a mere suggestion as a third boon, then fine. That's my third boon. That you go and be free to wander the spiritual plane or be unmade as you see fit. I hope that the next time we meet- if we do- we won't be coming to blows again."
"I see." He said, and shrugged. "Very maganimous of you. Because of that, I'll tell you this."
"The Gearworks." He said. "Get the Gearworks before she does. It cannot be scried, even with your power. That is one of it's abilities. But when it reappears. . .you'll know."
"Wait, before you go. What is your favorite color?"
"Color? I've always liked silver."
And then he was gone. The whispering starts up, telling you to break the skull or to face punishment. So you do, stomping on it. The skull crumbles into dust.

I was trying to avoid him being automatically unmade, finding whatever boon he'd agree to. Because that's terrible. And he's an ass and keeps defying us.

I don't think he even really wants to be unmade. I think he just wants to annoy the hell out of us for a cheap giggle. Or maybe he wants both.

Who cares? It shouldn't have worked. Exabyte picked both of your suggestions for the third boon and they were both fucking terrible. We could have sent him off peacefully with phrasing that actually made sense, at least. I don't know how it ended so well.
>>
"He really was an infuriating git. I did not, however, expect him to be an infuriating git over a pretty girl, of all things." You say. "Idiot. I'd never risk my soul for a man, no matter how handsome he is."
"You can't say that!" Marigold said. "I mean, you can think it, but you're supposed to stay quiet, and just let them think you would."

"How close are we to our destination?" You ask.
"Not far." Ell says. "Just a little while."

Soon enough, you reach the northernmost prism. . And then Ell configures the Jormungandr to take energy from the Weave, setting it far, far above cruising speed.
"Now we'll make some real time." Ell said. "I talked to Kiyara on the rings, and she said she's at the centermost prism. Apparently there's something rather major going on."

Marigold, I'm going to end up with a responsibility to an entire kingdom. No matter how much I end liking this hypothetical man, assuming I ever decide to find someone, I can't put him above the good of my kingdom.

I'm guessing the ruckus might be because the ghost of Eidolon showed up and told them to let me have their flowers.
>>
"Oh dear, I hope everything is okay, and that Eidolon didn't start trouble..."

By the time you get to the center prism, it looks... completely abandoned.
"They'll likely be inside the thickest trunk of the prism." Ell said, and led your group to an enormous, massive structure. As you walk in, you see all of the councilors you met at the hobgoblin Wall are there, arms raised. Surrounding the outer walls must be. . . Every elf. Ever, it looks like, although you know that's ridiculous. Likely only the keepers and crafters.

Hardly anyone looks at you or your companions when you walk in- they're all staring at the small group of councilors in the center.
"Judicator Kyvann, you can see our votes as well as we can." Absinad said.
"Yes, I can." Kyvann said. "Thus, Galadriel's Light is no longer a protected resource. It is something beneficial to all peoples, and so we should not keep it to feykind. However, Jadeeris' point is correct- we will still heavily tax the trade of the flowers. I trust no councilors have an objection?"

Nobody responds.

"Then we're done here." He says. The other councilors bow, and they start to file out. Once gone, so do the other elves- although they seem to notice you, now that the event is over.
"Ell! Ishelda!" Kiyara says, waving to you on the way out. "You just got here at the end. That was pretty interesting, wasn't it?"
>>

"Not really, it's exactly what Eidolon said would happen."

>>
>>19809834
They're only taxing trade. We stole them, fair and square.
>>
"Not really. It's exactly what Eidolon said would happen." You say.
". . People keep saying that Eidolon showed up and talked to the councilors, but they deny it." Kiyara said. "But it really happened, didn't it? You brought Eidolon's spectre to life, didn't you?"
"I presume I'll have to pay for the ones that I have?"
"Not at all." She said. "You had them before the tax laws started up."
"Bother, did I miss the entire council meeting? Tell me everything. It was all quite civil at the end, so it seems, but I doubt it started that way."
"No." She said. "It was civil the *entire time*. I've never been so creeped out in my entire life!"

"JADEERIS AGREED WITH DAD." She said, eyes wide. "I'm expecting to wake up any time now."
"Well, Raziel did help, I'll admit. It's a long story." You say.

You spend quite some time filling her in, as you walk across the balconies of the elven capital.
The night breeze is colder than you're used to, and you shiver.
"Hey. Kiyara." Ell says, near the end of your explanation. "Turns out. . . I'm Eidolon's descendant!"

". . what." She responds. Her face has been gazing emptily around the time you started talking about the golem.

"Also, I'm going to have you teach me." He said. "About spellcrystals. I already did some crafter training, but I want to learn how you do things."

She sighed, and shook her head.
"But yeah. . that is a story to tell. But I'd better go talk to dad- He'll want the prism ship ready to carry trading ships about."
"Wait- what about teaching me?" Ell asked.
"Right. You come with." She said, and grabbed his arm. She started to drag him off.
"What about Ishelda? she needs me to fly the Jorm-"
Kiyara interrupted him with a kiss.
"She'll be fine. She can brick it into submission." She said, while he spluttered. "Come on, Ele'merelda'jaridan. I won't wait forever."

She left, and Ell followed.

Actually, we should make sure to gather up the remnants of The Brick. We can't re-cast it into its original form, but... Maybe Tyr can with his ceramic-molding abilities. If he can stop laughing his ass off at the fact that we killed Eidolon with a brick.

In fact, let's translocate East and go see Tyr right now. Extend an olive branch, talk about setting up embassies in the future in both our realms, and apologize for telling him to shove the Game up his ass.

>>19810175
Are you forgetting that we have communication rings, Redaeth?

"Good luck!" You call. "I'll see you again."

You walk throughout the balconies, getting slightly lost, but then you run into Kyvann.
"Ishelda!" He says. "I thought I saw the airship here. You got those Galadriel's Light planted quickly, didn't you? They've only been legal for less than an hour, and those flowers must be at least a few weeks old by now." He said, and chuckled.

"Ha. Ha ha. Ha. Yes. The answer is, ah... Magic. Hee. Alright, so I might have been using Galadriel's Light just a smidgen longer than it's been technically legal. It's good to see you, Kyvann! How have you been? How did the Council meeting go? What were their faces like when Eidolon manifested before them?"

>>19810233
NEVER. That shit will be an artifact one of these days! I don't know what The Brick's specialty will be. Perhaps it will have to do with construction and deconstruction. It did deconstruct Eidolon's face rather nicely.

Besides, it will be worth it when we present the weapon that killed Eidolon to the Dwarven court, with a completely straight, if slightly smirking, face.
>>
>>19810248
This. Or "Magic does wonders, doesn't it?"
>>
"Oh, yes. It's not like they were stolen from the supplies of a prism or anything." You say. "You'd be amazed at what Marigold can do with plants."
He chuckled. "No worries, when I wrote that up, I made sure there'd be an.. inverse grandfather clause, I suppose. Anyone who had the flowers before they were legal won't get any repercussions."
"So Eidolon showed up. What did he say to convince you people to lighten up about the whole restricted goods thing?"
"The official stance is that the rumor about Eidolon appearing is false. But what he *did* do was tell everyone that we're idiots, and he made the flowers for everyone, not just feykind."

"Sounds just like what he'd say."
"It does, it does." He said. "Anyway, I have this for you to sign."
He holds over a large piece of paper, with all sorts of signatures on it- signatures of the councilors.

You read the name New Arcturus near the top, so you decide to read the whole thing. It looks like some kind of agreement- that you would become the queen of new arcturus, and the elves wouldn't dispute your rule- as well as a preliminary trade treaty, a peace treaty. . .Using the skills bored into you by a thousand and one tutors, you look it over. Nothing seems amiss.

"Did you sneak any secret clauses into it?"
"No, I didn't." He said.
You look it through, making sure that nothing is strange or unfair, and then you sign it with your royal, fancy signature. This sort of thing is almost second-nature to you- you'd been raised to do this from birth.
He took a look at the signature, nodded, and then handed you a second.
"Your own copy." He said. You look over the second, and it's identical, so you keep it. "Now, do you want me to lead you to your ship?"

"Oh, it is." He said. "I get to stick all kinds of secret clauses into treaties, and see how many councilors call me on it."

"Yes." He says. "Both, actually."
"Hey, did you know that Ell is descended from Eidolon?" You ask. "Eidolon said Ell had the potential to be better than him. If you thought I was shaking things up, you should watch out."
Kyvann chuckled. "Well, I'll keep an eye out for him."
"Also, your daughter kissed him."
"Finally? I was wondering when they'd get to it." Kyvann said. "Ah, there's your airship." He says, pointing to it. The Jormungandr stands there, perfectly intact, and some of the elves are looking at the Galadriel's Light attached to it.

"Red." Raziel said. "Red and brown. Alternating colors, like you- Matches with her eyes. She'll be a looker when she gets older."

As you approach the crypt, you see something strange, far below. Something large, and white. . .

"Wait." Raziel said. "Is that what I think it is?" She asked.
". . It's too far for me to see." Marigold said.
"It's the city. The orcish city. My crypt? It's... no longer ruins."

we go down either shifted as a kalak or on raziels dragon, check the veracity of the astral fires and then if it's safe come back up and land the ship so everyone can disembark...
>>
>>19810856
Bear isn't really a title. And he's already a Prince, so he's probably cool with that.
Marigold gets to be a princess and she's heir to the throne, she definitely doesn't need any more titles.
>>
You land the ship, making sure your own astral fire ward doesn't spark as you do so. The city, in a word, is breathtaking. Everything is made out of a strange, white stone, and you can see skeletons polishing or sweeping the roads down. It doesn't look like what you'd think an orcish city would look like- other than the extra-large doorways, it looks very similar to the Carved Fortress.
"But- What- How- They're just dumb, autonomous skeletons. They fixed the *entire city* while we were away?! Raziel, how did you manage this?"
"Well.. . " She dug her heel into the ground. "I asked Azariel to help. He's been guiding the skeletons the entire time." She said. "And I've been rerouting all of the necromantic energy from the dragon to them.

"Everyone, be careful." You say, and climb down. Raziel does too, and the two of you look at the building.
"This is one of their halls." Raziel said, running her hand along the smooth, white stone. "Like a human citadel, I suppose you could say."
She looks at one of the runes above the doorway's arch- Despite knowing orcish, you can't exactly read names.
"This was Triune's. The seer I told you about."

You feel the ward suddenly break... and the doors open on their own.

That's not creepy at all.
>>
>>19810919
"You don't think that he's... Here, do you? As a spirit? Triiiuunne? Heeelllooooo?"

"You don't think that he's... here, do you? As a spirit? Triiiuunne? Helllooooo?"
There's no response. You summon an elemental of wind, who salutes you.
"If there was, I could sense it." Raziel said, and waved her staff. "Nothing."

You see runes in the far distance. You walk through the stone hall, and look closer. It contains more names, so it's hard to get the meaning directly.
Raziel blinked.
"Why is your name on here? And the name of Arcturus?" She asked. "It roughly translates as . . . 'This is for you, silver-haired human. I have forseen your arrival. Take it with my blessing, and forge your new country.' The 'new country' is also the name for arcturus, and 'silver-haired human' is definitely you. I knew he could see the future, but this is creepy."
The elemental taps on something... and the wall falls in. Dust spews out, making the two of you cough.
In the next room, untouched for thousands of years and buried far below the sand...

Lie piles, and piles of gold.

this is what I feel needs to be done...part 1

CHANGES CHANGES, MAKE CHANGES SO WHEN WE RETURN TO THIS QUEST WE CAN BE WELL ESTABLISHED AS A TRUE RULER!!!!

000 timeskip begin

001 continue excavating and reanimating skeletons in the other ogre cities. idleness in a terrible thing...

002 carefully plan the astral clearing along any known ancient roads and in a circular area around the first city (for farming)

003 introduce just one group of all races (including kobolds) into the first area have them start farming the small circular area promise them status once we bring in additional groups. We have only one requirement ABSOLUTLEY NO RACISM.

004 bring in flora and fauna from just one specific region (to cut down on cross region contamination). we could easily ask grayson for suggestions I bet in terms of fauna that work together. or hire a druid or two to keep the forests running in good order till they don't need the overwatch

005 untill the settlement has proper and steady supplies of things it needs we'll need to be importing stuff like food, clean water, cloth, raw wood, etc. if we have skeletons to spare we have them gather ores and other mineral resources like coal etc. to save money, even if we have so much...

006 while the first settlement is being established we have skeletons continue digging up cities...tombs first a small contingent will expand the non-astral fire circle around the first city slowly.

007 bring in another group or two once we have the space. again a massively mixed bag.

008 any ruins or mutant infested regions we find are to be cleared by soldiers from all constituent races, supplimented by some of Lewin's adventurers. a bonus is keeping a portion of any loot found assuming they don't damage the structure so Raziel can look at it first.

009 begin planting galadriels light in a massive field around azreals tower
>>
rolled 64 = 64

>>19811361
010 eventually other cities are cleared. we begin bringing in more groups, contracting with the leaders of all of the races to keep to the anti-racism requirements. we might contract with that elf chick to piolot a second ship for us as either a people or cargo hauler

011 we get second tier groups.(miners, masons, higher level craftsmen, perhaps a few mages and alchemists)

012 we begin producing trade goods now that we have craftsmen...

013 eventually sheath azreals tower in orchalicum.

014 build more prisms, any citizen can own a gauntlet if they can afford it...

015 every city should have a street of cunning artificers. it must have them...they are essential

016 we enjoy having tea at least once a year with every govener, judge, village leader, or village council...(not all at once, unless we really want to.)
>>
Raziel pushes you back, ever aggressively. You have no idea at all what exactly is going on you-
what-
why is she unlacing your clothing-
You suddenly taste the mint-and-spice flavor of swamp brew on Raziel's tongue. That must be what's going on; She's drunk.
Kristoph blinks. Then turns around, and takes the tall glass of swamp brew.
He starts chugging, and leaves you and Raziel your privacy.
"Zeke, I have *problems*!" Kristoph called, as he closed the door behind him.

Seems good.

We also need to set up the infrastructure of village mayors, city governors and the like all reporting to a governing body of bureaucrats who report to us. We need to stay abreast of crop reports and the like.

We'll also need to set up guilds for common trades to both teach apprentices, bring resources and expertise together and for quality control.
>>
rolled 28 = 28

Also what would have happened if we had kissed Grayson on the forehead when he was human?

Note, when/if we get married we probably should append Prince Consort to their titles instead of King, just to ensure that we're absolutely the boss, they'll have authority but this is our kingdom.

This all seems rational, minus the "NOOO RAACCIIISSSM" gittery and making everyone live with everyone, despite cultural differences. If you tell them explicitly not to be racist despite tensions while cramming them together in one space they're not particularly comfortable in, then we're not only being fascistic, but stupid. We'll probably kick up racial tensions by pointing out nonexistent ones and making the real ones flare up. Just let people be people and encourage the idea passively. I have a much different idea of how to divvy up the land.

The Ogrish city, formerly Raziel's hangout, should be our capital. Azariel's tower and the surrounding area should be the Kalak's demesne; we can build our own towering citadel-staff-thing. The lands will be partly governed by us, since we've had such a hand in setting everything up, and by the nations contributing to the effort; there will be an Elven demesne to the East, a new human Province to the West, Lizardfolk lands to the Southeast, and maybe a hobgoblin demesne to the Southwest. North is obviously the Orcs' demesne. The Kobolds will have a demesne near our capital in the center of the former Warped Lands, or possibly exist as a substate of the Province's demesne; a duchy, maybe. The rest will be kept neutral until a later date, because we may have to accommodate more races.

Field too long.
>>
>>19811670
Map posted couple of threads ago. Swap elven and lizardmen portions.
>>
>>19811670
Our own demesne will be open to everyone and have no pre-established idea of who will go where, unlike the other jointly governed demesnes, and will serve as the big ol' melting pot. This is not to say cross-race immigration into the other demesnes is forbidden, but rather that we will only encourage extreme cultural muddling and cosmopolitanism in our own lands. On the point of neutral zones, the Ogres and Dwarves, for example, may have embassies later, and those embassies may turn into settlements which will become proper demesnes of New Arcturus. Speaking of dwarves, we cannot just use magic. We need to see if Tyr is interested in New Arcturus. Using nothing but magic will bite us in the ass, because magic fades in ways mundane things don't, and if anyone should know how to keep things from fading, it's the Dwarves. We'll, uh, leave the Ogres for later. Because they're kooks.

Does anyone else agree with this approach over muddling the hell out of New Arcturus, turning it into one big tangled mess of cultures that don't understand one another and may even start a shitfit over being stuck with one another so, rather than merely blurring the lines, in closer borders, constant trade and actual cultural mixing?

Also, prince consort is an awesome idea and I will certainly use it.
>>
>>19811693
It makes no geographical or geopolitical sense to have the Lizardfolk in the East and Elves in the Southeast. There should be a clear bridge between the Lizardfolk's demesne and their current homeland, from the island in the South below the Eastern continent to the south of New Arcturus. It would slow the Lizardfolk demesne's construction considerably due to the longer trip, for no reason, whereas the Elves would be fine simply crossing the channel into an Eastern demesne. That map as it was was flawed and this has already been pointed out in the very thread it was concepted.

>>
rolled 62 = 62

>>19811697
>on dwarves and Tyr
did you see point 015? I stole it from discworld but the concept is still sound; if we have a district in every city that is set aside for people of a mechanical bent. perhaps we subsidize them a little provided some judged level of ingenuity.

or we merely encourage ingenuity in our people...

I do hope you caught the first bit where I said changes were important...

and I wasn't saying that we state the NO RACISM requirement, merely that in our first few groups we hand pick individuals and families that clearly have no racism.

I know that once we have enough population we can have separate lands for everyone, to begin with we need a little of everyone...that way our histories will always demonstrate that we are the melting pot.
>>
>>19811788
It isn't like we'd give authority equal to our own to anyone. This is our kingdom, both through right of birth and through deed as we created it with our own hands.

>>19811809
That could be problematic. The first thing we would do is consult with the Venerable King and Queen, get their thoughts and advice on it. Then we have a test run of a few Orcish families who live here raising children and seeing how it goes. We will use that to determine how to best pull off Orcs in our land.
>>
>>19811788
>prince consort is an awesome idea
What do you mean? It's just the standard title for a bloke who marries a ruling Queen.

>>19811809
The adult orcs will bring the child orcs a strict upbringing just like they do in orcish lands. It maybe slightly harder living in a more exiting country but it shouldn't be a significant problem, should it?
>>
>>19811809
Maybe having a somewhat isolated Orcish settlement for raising young Orcs. The Orcs would understand it's necessity.
Or we set up a public Orc insurance.
>>
rolled 91 = 91

>>19811851
>>19811809

simple, we start with only older orcs...but we give all of them a stern warning "until they can keep children calm keep them under control" or give them free trips back and forth to deliver children in the orcish lands.

once they have enough domain then they can be free to set their children loose at will...
>>
A few fun facts;
Vanko was the only explicit 'source of misinformation'. The Heart and the Mind, as well as scrying, your allies, and interrogated enemies are all sources of information, so I thought adding one source of misinformation would be good to throw into the mix.

The Wanderer's immortality was inspired by the old folk myth where parents would cut a lock of their children's hair and keep it, because the myth was that one couldn't die without all parts of them in the same place.

The three boons ritual was inspired by genies. Obviously.

I tried to subvert or twist most of the standard D&Desque races- See Ogres, Orcs, Hobs, elves, and though you didn't see one in person, dwarves.

The Fell was originally going to call monsters to you, but while wearing it you'd be invisible. Inspired by the One Ring.

Kiyara and Ell were always planned to be together.

Kristoph and Raziel were *not*. Also, as apparent by Grayson Quest\Harrumph Quest, you were supposed to meet Kristoph long before. Kris originally had a dire wolf that completely loved him- he'd shoo it away, yell at it, all sorts of things, but it'd show up in his bedroll eventually.

Fellwind wasn't meant to be an arse. He just... ended up that way.
>>
>>19811809
Simple. Orcs will stay in the homeland or their own demesne until they get control of their berserker tendencies. And we can always figure out a mundane or magical method to suppress their anger and get unwanted berserking more easily in line, for problem orcs. Antianxiety drugs, perhaps? Calming charms?

>>19811841
Alright, well, it was vaguely worded. I suppose that makes some sense. As for point 15, alright, you've got me. But you seemed focused on magical industry. We need a proper, mundane industry, too. Balance and all. As for encouraging ingenuity, yes, yes, but you don't just suddenly into science. We need to talk to Tyr and the dwarves to into science without our renaissance being well under way decades from now, because magic of course will stunt advances in technology simply because it might not be seen as necessary. And that's bad, so we'll fight that stunting with everything we've got.

Aside from that, are we in agreement? Our demesne for the big melting pot, and separate, distinct demesnes for the other nations contributing to New Arcturus, that might rub off a bit on one another from proximity?
>>
>>19811993

aye, I see what you say, and perhaps Tyr might be willing to assist, but.

I was focused on magic first because we HAVE that technology.

but to use discworld as a reference again, there will I think always be people willing to do the unconventional for the sake of doing it.

a magic using farmer can gather more crops, but the man that a magic using farmer can gather more crops and once more he will chalege the magic and the minds of others

I did word them vaugely; because I knew that it was a backbone and not a full body, and many changes needed to take place.

and yes aside from that we are indeed in an agreement...
>>

>>
>>19812128

It was false! all of the fourth-wall spanning stuff was kind of an injoke to myself, as the 'four' was the main characters of the four different quests I had in mind, but within the setting, Vanko- or The Wanderer- was lying his ass off.

True magic being 'a dream' was right, though. True magic wasn't real, and thus, a dream.

You can likely take both males and females.

Marigold was made on the spot, surprisingly. She was originally going to be much more religious, and much, much more naive. Her handmaidens were a bad influence on her naivety.

Venus was going to be more of a jerk originally. He was going to capture you and your companions for being hob supporters, but then I figured that there's no way I'd get you there without railroading or abusing the World Key.

Speaking of the World Key, Ragnarok was originally going to escape the moment he got a chance, and make his way to the World Key to undo the bindings on his magic- Then try to revive Eidolon- using Ell's body.

Fellwind was originally going to be either Venus's son or some kind of criminal, but I decided against it. Grimmauld took that place instead.

Lewin read too many books about adventurers when he was a kid. That's why he is the way he is.
>>
>>19812491
Ragnarok turning into Eidolon was a Gareth trick, wasn't it?

Also spellswords are awesome. We should set up a school, and have a magic+swordplay police force.
>>
>>19812534
Yes, yes it was. He didn't want *anyone* to be able to know about his face, and he didn't want loose ends, so he killed Ragnarok via illusing Grayson.

If you had put the mask in it's original spot, instead of a pocket space, he would have tried to kill you, too.
>>
>>19812491
We kinda shat on Ragnarok's plan by having Grayson guard him, didn't we?

How exactly did Venus end up being less of a jerk? Was it really just because you had trouble thinking of how he could tkae us down without a dickass doublecross when we came to talk to him or a deus ex machina like WORLD KEY OUTTA NOWHERE, or did our handling of the situation have something to do with it too?
>>
>>19812607
>By 'originally', I mean 'back when you were still walking to Sirius City'. Eventually I decided that the obligatory 'captured an in the dungeon scene' wasn't fit for the quest.
>>
>>19812638
It wouldn't have worked that well. We probably would have bust open our prison cell, incapacitated the guards and then gone up to the High Lord and scolded him.
>>
>>19812659
Exactly.
>>
>>19812674
Which would have been AWESOME.
>>
>>19812659
>busting open the prison cell
How barbaric! Why would you ruin a perfectly good prison cell when you can just teleport out or magically unlock the door?
>>
>>19812687
>I probably should have done that, then.

Also, the whole 'muscles aching' thing was when you were down to one half of your maximum arcane power. 'Head swimming' and 'world swaying' was below one fourth.
>>
>>19812674
I do like the mental image though. A fourteen year old girl busting out of prison, snapping her fingers as all the guards fall asleep around her and then going up to the big bearded Lord, grabbing him by the ear and pulling him around the room while berating him for being so impolite to a guest.
>>
>>19812709
How much power did we start with compared to how much we have now?
>>
>>19812709
Does that mean you won't be using that system for the next part?
>>
>>19812709
Was 'muscles aching' level enough that we'd strengthen on the raw magical power scale if we regenerated naturally?
>>
>>19812755
You started out with one hundred 'points', and ended up with four hundred near the end, not counting the two hundred you could store in the Jormungandr, and the forty in your 'satchel of crystals', which was upgraded to fifty when you put it into your armor.

>>19812765
I most likely won't keep track like I have been, so most likely, no.

>>19812785
Indeed. The world-swaying actually *decreased* how much your maximum magic would raise, though. There's such a thing as too much exercizing.
>>
>>19812826
What exactly are the limits and capabilities of Dire Magic?

Did Grayson have any magic other than Dire Magic, Class, Nobility and excellent footwork?
>>
>>19812826
>ended up with four hundred near the end, not counting the two hundred you could store in the Jormungandr
So we have twice as much power as it took to levitate a whole ship across the entire continent? That's kind of impressive.
And if we keep quadrupling our power every season like we just did, we'll have twenty-six million points by the end of the time skip. I'm guessing it's not going to work like that, because holy shit.
>>
>>19812889
Nope, dire magic and his intelligence are the only unnatural things about him.

His footwork is due to his dire magic, which was due to his nobility.

His class is all his own.

Dire magic, roughly, is the bastard child of shapeshifting and life magic- it grants him physical skill (In all forms,) , and the ability to change his mass, structure, bones, etc. It also amplifies his senses, and increases his fluffiness. However, he can't completely shapeshift into a different creature- he's always a bear, albeit a bear with an extra ribcage as armor, massive claws, and horns.
>>
>>19812959
>increases his fluffiness
Ishelda needs to learn this shit, ASAP. How do you make dire humans?
>>
>>19812959
So he can't pull off shapeshifting into a human on his own. We'll work on that during the timeskip, make him an item that lets him shift between them if he ever chooses.
>>
>>19812990
>Dire humans are talented humans. As in, all humans with talents. Lewin and his senses, Fellwind and his ANGER ISSUES, etc.
>>
>>19813048
Fellwind is fluffy? B-but he's mean. How can a fluffy thing be mean?
>>
>>19813088
See Ishelda The Cat from NFCQ. she was fluffy, and yet... so mean.
>>
>>19813088
Honey badgers
>>
>>19813109
She wasn't mean. It's not her fault everyone else was so insignificant next to her majesty. She was incredibly magnanimous, considering. Let Dave look after her and everything.
>>
>>19812951
This guy kinda has a point. While we probably won't be exerting ourselves nearly as much, even as we're building up a magical industry, building the bastard flower-covered child of Grand Staff, and creating elementals & golems everywhere, we're going to grow in power a lot. It seems like Sorceress Quest Part 2, similarly to Space Cyborg Quest, is going to be more about political play than exercising our powers. We COULD go ahead and smash the opposition with a touch of the ol' ULTRA-MAGIC, but that wouldn't be like Ishelda. There's Dwarves and Ogres that need diplomancing and peace to keep in New Arcturus. Also, demons and Void Queens we need to war on for the good of the realm and all others.
>>
>>19813151
>Dave wasn't there when she did her meanest things. She put undesirables to death, tortured young children, burned ants with a magnifying glass. . .Ishelda The Cat is secretly the most evil thing there is.
>>
>>19813178
She's a cat, cats are some of the most adorable sociopaths in the world. I know this because I have several cats. If they weren't cute you'd have people freaking out over how they leave mice half dead and bat them around for fun. Letting them crawl away for a bit with grave injuries before knocking them around more.
>>
>>19813178
It's not wrong if you don't get caught, right?
>>
rolled 69 = 69

>>19812709
just like the dolphin ending of NFCQ eh?
>>
>>19813217
Mine just do that with insects, and I appreciate them for it. I hate insects.
>>
House cats are the most vicious mammal predators.
If your average house cat was scaled up to tiger size there wouldn't be anything larger than a mouse living within several miles. Probably not even the mice. Your average house cat makes several orders of magnitude more kills per year than the next comparable predator.
>>
>>19813178
So if the Void Queen is going around taking Isheldas from bad ends, will she have an army of cat Isheldas from Dave's bad ends? Because I don't think we can beat that.
>>
>>19813364
>Who said she was?
>>
>>19813345
They're pretty awesome. Recently one of my cats brought in a good sized bunny, it was an absolutely perfect kill. Judging by the wound on the bunny it was one bite, right at the spine and then it was over.
>>
>>19813381
Nobody obviously, she wipes people's souls out of existence if they say stuff about her like that.

or the average casual video-gamer for that matter...

this coming from a man whose cat will occasionally pick mano-a-mano fights with adult raccoons, and win.

>>19813217
mine doesn't leave half dead mice, mine leaves the living halves of mice...and bunnies, and rats, and snakes, and...
>>
What are we going to do with the zerglin/ratatta?
>>
>>19813493
Use it as a pet/personal assistant.
>>
>>19813474
I once got up and found that my cat had perfectly disemboweled a mouse and left it by my bedroom door, that was not a fun present.
>>
>>19813503
Like the romans had their tigers and panthers and things? Could be cool.

I always liked this version slightly more...

Honestly I am way more annoyed by when they don't kill the animal then when they leave a corpse.

Seriously, I've seen them bring in a bunny or a mouse, let it go and just watch it run and hide under stuff. Then they just wander off and leave me to deal with a fucking terrified squeaking animal that it is nearly impossible to make leave.

I have seen my cats literally just ignore the animal I want them to kill after shutting them in the same room as the bunny.
>>
>>19813584
That's because it is superior, but I couldn't find it with a quick googling.
>>
>>19813612
My old cat used to try to be evil, but she'd just capture the mouse, bring it in, let it go to play with it...

And then the mouse or shrew would get away, and then she'd meow at us as if we stole it from her. she always demanded that we return her toys to her.
>>
>>19813826
Are you sure she wasn't just torturing the poor thing psychologically before getting to the physical torture and following slow, gruesome murder?
>>
>>19813873
I'm positive.
Mostly because she'd give up, climb into someone's lap, roll over onto her back, and start drooling copiously.

My cat was not a smart cat.
>>
>>19813905
I'm going to take a wild guess that Ishelda was inspired by the polar opposite concept to your cat.
>>
>>19813925
Yes, yes she was.

Except my cat was also white, and incredibly fluffy.
