The mask in front of you shows no emotions, but you feel, that Inquisitor is looking at you. He stares at you for about a minute and when you start to wonder why the hell did he requested you, he turns away, looks through the huge beautiful stained glass window into the stars and asks you:
>So... Brother Elegion, right? Do you know who I am?

As I promised to continue Chapter Quest only at the end of the next week, but I have a few hours to waste and some inspiration, I present you Chapter Quest: Deathwatch Edition, where you play for the legendary brother Elegion, master sniper known for killing Ork Warboss Troat Rippa. In the main questline he was sent out to exile in Deathwatch for 17 years. Let's see whether he will survive there...

Our chat is here as always: http://cbe005.chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23RisingSons&server=irc.Rizon.net

>Good. I see your Chapter Master mentioned me to you. Your Chapter, despite it's many flaws, served me, and Imperium, well on Inaria. However this time I am speaking to you not as a Ghosts, but as a member of Deathwatch. There is a mission I have for you. Fate likes to play tricks, so it is actually related to your Chapter. There was this merchant, that you gave in for the Inquistion some years ago... By the name of Dresos Kand. Mister Kand was sentenced to execution on three different accounts of heresy, however he proved to be more than cooperative, so he now enjoys our humble hospitality in prison-moon of Nobis. We gave him his life, but this is not because we are light-hearted kind of people, brother Elegion. His information was invaluable to us and that's where you come into the picture.

>Those Tau pulse rifles you managed to retrieve from him were not imported to our Sector. They were made here. Infact they were created in the very planet below us, a lush jungle world of Sabria. Yes, you are getting what I am trying to tell you. Tau have a colony in Sector Deus. However because of certain reasons, Inquisition doesn't think that it's neccessary to wipe them out... Yet. Your mission is simple. You will take 3 brothers and descend into the Sabrian jungle. You have two missions:

1. Find out HOW did Tau get here
2. Kill their Ethereal

I heard you were quite good with that Stalker Pattern Bolter...
>>
>master sniper
I suggest we requisition a rifle-converted autocannon. Just saying.

Rest of the squad stalker patterns for support fire.

"Yes my Lord, but if I am to win the sniping game of the Tau, I need something bigger, if at all possible."
>>
>>19781239
Do you have any questions?
>>
>>19781263
Request a better gun, such as the Exitus Rifle, (If that is better, not sure)
>>
>>19781278
May be a bit small for a Space Marine, ergonomically, but as a sniper weapon its still better than any type of bolter.
>>
>>19781258
"You are the sniper, brother Elegion. I am here only to command and provide. You can choose your weapons and squadmates... If you don't have any questions, you can go to armoury to take whatever you need."
>>
>>19781287
If we have time, could we not ask for a specially-master crafted Exitus Rifle built to Space Marine scale.
>>
>>19781311

Let's check out the armoury then.

Also I would recommend scout armour for this mission.
>>
>>19781326
Exitus rifles are like.....rarer than baneblades, they won't have one available.
>>
>>19781311
"In that case I have no further questions for now, Lord. I will save those for the briefing."

>[X] See what is available in the Armory
>>
>>19781343
And?
It's our mission, we have a right to request whatever we wish.
>>
>>19781379
You can request an Imperator Titan if you want.
At the end of the day, though, you'll still get everyone in the room laughing in your face.
>>
>>19781392
True, but this is why we have the power of a dice.
Hell, the power of the dice allows IG to kill Terminators, right?
>>
>>19781278
>>19781287
>>19781343
You are a brother of Deathwatch. Entire worlds work to supply you with finest weaponry known to mankind.

Armoury Selection(from sniper weapons):

Enhanced Exitus Pattern sniper rifle
>Overkill and noiseless, but bulky, slow to reload
Viper Pattern Autocannon-based sniper rifle
>Very high damage, good rate of fire, but makes a lot of noise and is bulky
Stalket Pattern Bolter
>Moderate damage, noiseless, compact, but relatively short range and can use only one type of ammo
Enhanced Dagger Pattern Lasgun sniper rifle
>Low damage, but compact, light, nearly endless ammo, low sound
>>
>>19781446
I'd go for the Exitus then.

>Bulky
We don't have to get anywhere near enemies so it won't be too much of a drawback

>Slow to reload
We only need one shot.
>>
>>19781446
Suggestion for squad
>Autocannon
>Exitus
>Astartes Longlas
>Astartes Longlas

We have enough damage output this way, so the stalkers are not needed. We can do stealth or just Fuck Shit Up.

Personally I'd like the A/C myself, give the exitus to some stealth-specialized dude (unless that's included in our sniper mastery thing, i guess, then we do this the other way around).
>>
>>19781446
Choice of comrades:(pick 3)
Brother Asten - Explosives specialist - Ghosts of Retribution
Brother Ragnar - Devastator - Space Wolves
Brother Markus - Techmarine - Silent Guardians
Brother Severus - Sniper - Bone Dragons
Brother Galeum - Warrior - Black Templars
Brother Esaneus - Apothecary - Celestial Lions
Brother Dilion - Tracker&Scout - Ultramarines
Brother Vectus - Loremaster - Imperial Fists
Brother Pergam - Assault Marine - Blood Angels
Brother Xian - Tactical Marine - White Scars
Brother Ulgon - Tactical Marine - Ultramarines
>>
>>19781563
Hmm..
We are already a sniper, so Bro Asten with the A/C-rifle could make for some great long-range heavy support. Explosive charges are his thing so he'll know his way around the exact properties, dos and don'ts of the explosive rounds the rifle fires.

That makes us the Exitus gunner.

A tracker/scout is definitely in order. They use light weaponry so the longlas fits well.

Apothecary, just in case. weapon also fits, coincidentally.
>>
>>19781563
I'd say Ragnar with the Autocannon
Dilion with a sniper-las
Severus with a sniper-las
And us, elegion with an Exitus.
>>
If we survive this and make it back to our chapter we will have more allies in other legions. Excellent.

As you prepare to leave the ship, Faceless aproaches you and your team to give you last orders.
"I trust that you will not fail me or the Emperor and that Ethereal will die. Here, take this"
He gives you a relatively small vox caster, but you immediatelly notice, that it is designed so that it could contact ships in the orbit.
"Once you know how xenos managed to get so far away from their home and the Ethereal is killed(or you find out that there is no Ethereal, but we highly doubt that), contact us and report what exactly did you managed to get from them. Good luck, warriors."

Within minutes, your Thunderhawk leaves the belly of the ship and you fly towards Sabria... How are you going to approach the enemies? How far would you like to land from enemy base? Or maybe in it?
>>
>>19781733
So from our suggestions, which squad and equip have you chosen?

Let's land in an uninhabited area, with plenty of cover on our way there, like a wood or abandoned urban area, anything that allows us a stealthy approach on foot. We are snipers after all. Infilration and exfiltration is what we do.
>>
>>19781637
>>19781632
Oh, I see we have different opinions here. Also please remember that if you plan to interrogate Tau, you need Loremaster, otherwise you will need to use translation-cogitator, that takes up a lot of space, this means less ammo for you.
+specify what other stuff do you want to take
>>
Alright I'll take the loremaster instead of the apothecary. let's just not get hit, then.
>>
>>19781789
>>19781771
If Luigi agres, then this is your team:

Elegion:
Exitus rifle(10 rounds)
Bolt-pistol(2 mags, 10r each)
Mono-knife
Vox-caster
60 A/C rounds

Vectus
Longlas(-inf-)
Bolt-pistol(2 mags, 10r each)
Mono-knife
90 A/C rounds

Asten
Autocannon(60 rounds)
Explosives(5 units)
Mono-knife

Dilion
Longlas(-inf-)
Bolt-Pistol(2mags, 10r each)
Mono-knife
90 A/C rounds

I distributed some A/C rounds among others, because Asten won't be able to carry both explosives and all the ammunition. Not because it would be too heavy, but because he would get penalties to movement. Did I forget any equipment you would like to take?
>>
>>19781919

Brother Esaneus - Apothecary - Celestial Lions
Brother Ulgon - Tactical Marine - Ultramarines
Brother Markus - Techmarine - Silent Guardians
>>
>>19781926
We have a lot of A/C rounds, and only 10 Exitus. Though I get that exitus rounds are very expensive while the A/C ones are rather cheap so I'll leave it at that. Fluffwise it makes sense and it may be a nice penalty for us. Instead, I'd like a bit more bolt-pistol ammo for us, because sidearms are very important for snipers for this exact reason. 2 Additional magazines please.

Would like to req. a cameleoline cloak. (Space Marine ghillie, oh yeah)
>>
Hey bros.

After exposure to the universe from the recent Space Marine fps/shooter, and the older RTS games, I feel as though I would like to read some of these novels as well. I love the setting, the idea, the psuedo-roman nonsense..all of it. It's exactly the kind of ficiton I like.

Where is a good place to start, though? I don't really know anything other than space marines are badasss geneticly engineered tough guys. I know from reading Lexicanum that there was a great heresy and yada yada...but where is a good place to get started with the books?

Pain, anger and frustration about being discovered make you and your brothers into real beasts. Tau stealth suits are bulky and slow, compared to you, you catch them and slowly rip them apart piece by piece, enjoying every crunch of weak fishbones and cheap metal under your fingers... Suddenly you hear something approaching the mountain at great speed from the distance. Brother Dilion, who because of his injury couldn't join the massacre turns to you and shouts:
>Orca Dropship! Incoming in 60 seconds! Orders?

Asten, who is a little higher than you on the mountain, replies with worry in his voice:
>Sir, I don't think that will be possible. I see 3 Devilfish Xeno Grav-tanks approaching the mountain by ground, if we will try to go down, we'll be an easy target for them. Maybe we should... Look out!
Asten jumps down from the rock and pushes both you and Dilion into the cover behind a half finished Tau Anti-Air platform just as Orca Dropship approaches the mountaintop and rains down blue fire upon your heads. A second later you hear a voice speaking in broken Low Gothic:
>This is Ethereal Aun'Skar of Tau. You are surrounded, warrior. Surrender to the Greater Good and you will be spared! Don't be foolish! Don't throw away your life in vain!

Yes, it seems he's in Orca, but it's a big dropship and you don't see him.

Do you surrender? If not - how you attack them(you have no anti-vehicle weapons)?

You are on a rocky mountain top of 30 or so square meters, with some jungle trees and bushes and a half finished Tau Anti-Aircraft Platform in the middle. There are some canisters and cables lying around.
>>
>>19783929
>(you have no anti-vehicle weapons)?
Please, the Exitus Rifle is strong enough to easily pierce through heavy tank armor, an ORCA should be easy.

There are no aiming mechanisms(almost impossible to hit at something beyond 1km), also it seems that ventilation systems are not in place, so it won't be able to sustain fire for more than a couple of minutes.

You still don't see where exactly Ethereal is within the dropship. Also, you can theoretically take it down with a sniper rifle if you will hit fuel tanks/electronics, but you don't really know where are they, so...

Heh, so you imagine, that if you will fuck up one of those FOUR it will just turn over and fall from the sky? Nope, mister. You'll just make it angry and unable to be stable in the air, but it's not a kill. I am speaking about something that would take out Orca from 1 shot, and Exitus would be capable of that only with a good amount of luck. 2-3 shots with moderate rolls to wreck enough shit so that it would fall. You can try that, but Exitus is relatively slow, so be careful.

>FUEL TANKS/ELECTRONICS
I am sorry, but on the model neither of these are clearly visible. To be perfectly clear, I will specify:
that by electronics i meant electronics VITAL to the operation of dropship and by fuel tanks I meant MAIN fuel storage unit. Did I mention engines? Nope. Read posts carefully and let's be friends.

As you aim your powerful Exitus rifle at the howering Orca, you whisper a sniper prayer older than Imperium...
"Pater Noster, Deus Imperator, dirige mea sagitta! Mortem ad Xenos!
You feel a powerful shock as your gun releases it's deadly load at the xeno aircraft. Because of luck or divine intervention, Orca was positioned at the time in such a way, that two of the engines on the right side were both in your line of fire and Turbo-Penetrator round with thunderous force ripped through both of them, but they are still working from the sheer inertia. Xeno loud-hailers, that just seconds ago suggested you to surrender suddenly fall silent, then Ethereal asks someone inside the Orca:
>Shas'An, what the..?
Using the moment of surprise Vectus and Asten rush towards the Xeno AA cannons and open fire on the falling dropships, a series of terrible blue explosions rip through the side of Orca, sending it to fiery death on the mountainside. A shout of joy slips the lips of your brothers, while Devilfishes down below stop in their tracks from disbelief...

Awesome, then with that we shall conclude this minor spin-off for the Chapter Quest. You can join us in the main quest, or if there will be requests, I might actually prepare and make a proper quest for Ghosts of Retribution that serve in Deathwatch...

Next game date will be updated later in wiki.

No feel free to criticise/make suggestions/troll me regarding my quests, I'll stay here until the sun comes up(about 15 min).

p.s. thanks for not killing Elegions, he's quite cool npc, even has his own page:http://chapterquest.wikia.com/wiki/Elegion
