<Ishelda!> Lewin said, using the rings to channel his voice. <I need your help! Lady Cerulean is dead. . .and they're saying that Fellwind did it!>
Azariel's wisp, and Raziel both gave you a look. Raziel activated her ring, allowing her to listen in.

Rolling to Move the Book of Lineage. We can go check out the Crescent Island's fancy ruins later when we have a real archaeological team. For now, we don't have the time.

Nothing must be done to help Fellwind. Everything must be done to regain Lewin to our Retinue.

Swap the elves & lizardmen and I think that's great for a start.

<Oh, for pities' sake! That's nonsense. Why would Fellwind kill Lady Cerulean?>
<I- I don't know.> Lewin said. <He went to Cerulean to get the word out, and then I got a messenger. Apparently it happened a few days ago. He did it in full view of everyone, ranting about hobgoblins.>

"Oh. . oh my." Raziel said. "I'm- I'm going to have to tell Kristoph about his sister." She said.

How about we give the carrot part to the hobgoblins in exchange for them giving that big island west of the lizardmen to them? I think they would like owning land somewhat near their main Island.

You wave your arm, and exert a large portion of energy, tugging the book out from it's hiding place. You translocate it, and slip it into Raziel's hands.

You close your eyes, and scry on Fellwind. He's sitting in a dungon of some kind, and two knights are guarding him. One, a knight you've never seen, and the other is Leon.

It seems that a previous companion of mine killed the leader of a province and now I have to rescue him...even through he called me a monster.
>>
"My apologies. High Lady Cerulean is dead, supposedly by the hand of an acquaintence of mine." You say, continuing to urge the airship to the correct direction.
"I see."
"Can I ask you something? What magic was the wanderer known for?"
"The wanderer had a few specialties." Azariel responded. "Illusion was always his greatest skill, but soon before the game started, he got very skilled in translocation, too."
>>
>>19751459
That's a good question and I'm surprised we didn't ask it sooner.
>>
>>19751473
"What power does a name have magically? Could the Wanderer's erasing of his identity, replacing it with an abstract concept, lead to his immortality and power? Is that why he can't risk the mask coming near him, or his name being uttered and remembered?"
>>
>>19751473
ah I see.

>>
>>19751473
Well, that erases all doubts in my mind as to who was in control of "Vanko". And who was responsible for Ragnarok's death.

Based on that I have to wonder how much of what we were told about magic was really true?

did he actually kill her tho and not a doppleganger.
also it seems someone REALLY REALLY wants to make sure we dont get to the orcs anytime soon.
>>
>>19751532
It was all vague bullshit anyway. I don't think he actually told us anything useful enough to sabotage us.
>>
>>19751532
I'd actually hazard a guess that Wanderer made Vanko so well, that Vanko actually became real, a Magical AI.
>>
>>19751557
Exa said it's practically a coincidence that we haven't been able to visit Orcs for this long, but he's going along with it or something at last thread.
>>
"What power does a name have magically?"
"Very little, save for divination." He said. "Otherwise, we would all guard our names and tell them to nobody."
"Could the Wanderer's erasing of his identity, replacing it with an abstract concept, lead to his immortality and power? Is that why he can't risk the mask coming near him, or his name being uttered and remembered?"
He put his talons onto his chin, thinking.
". . When me and Tyr were first teaching him magic, that's something he asked about. He asked about immortality, and power based in one's identity. We didn't know anything helpful to him. He asked us what would happen if he took his own identity out of himself... and when we couldn't tell him, he left in a huff."
>>
>>19751574
Eidolon knew something about the mask. I suppose we'll have to drag his spirit up and see what he knows.

But later, we have to deal with this Fellwind thing first.
>>
rolled 62 = 62

>>19751574

>>19751574
"Then that's exactly what he's done, I knew it! The Mask, which is completely indestructible, constantly whispers his name. It longs to be reunited with him, and he is terrified of it. It got rather irritating, that whispering, so I had to silence it. But I remember his name. He can't destroy it, only hide it. And his illusion, Vanko, succeeded only in telling me useful concepts about magic and then revealing this truth indirectly, failing to get me to hide it away again. Azariel, if you don't think it would be too dangerous, I'd like to lay down a silencing field around us and tell you his identity."
>>
>>19751623
We're travelling at normal airship speed, we've got time to do stuff before we arrive. We should probably contact Sirius first to make sure he delays the execution. Then we could contact Tyr to tell him Gary's name and ask for info about the Ankh and try interrogating Eidolon.
>>
rolled 93 = 93

I wonder what Eilodin knew about it since he wanted the mask as well....

Rolling to resurrect or otherwise empower our poor elemental so it can continue on its task of killing demons.
>>
"Eidolon knew *something* about the mask. I suppose we'll have to drag his spirit up and see what he knows." You say.
"When you do, be careful." Azariel said. "Spirits may not be corpereal, but they can still effect things."
"You think telling everyone his name would make him mortal again?"
"Not at all." He said. "The name was just forgotten. Saying it holds no power. . But telling him his own name. . that might do something. There's no way to be certain, unless you try."
>>
>>19751643
We don't actually know that the mask is indestructible, we've only actually witnessed someone try to destroy it with a normal dagger.
>>
>>19751680

"Are we on our way to Cerulean?" He asked, almost storming up.
"I want to be the one to execute that bastard." He says.
"Calm down, Kris-" Raziel started to say, but Kristoph interrupted her.
"I won't calm down! It's my sister!"
>>
"Kristoph please calm down and listen to me for a minute. We do not know what happened and if you will remember our main enemy is a master of illusions. So we need to investigate first."

We are going to Cerulean, we will discover if it is truly Fellwind who has done so and and if he did it he will be punished for it. If that means he will be executed then... so be it. I hope it isn't him however because no matter what he said to me he is my friend.

>>
>>19751801
Given the last few weeks it is most likely way more complicated than it sounds. We need to know what exactly happened before killing the wrong one. Shapeshifting and teleportation exist. Mind control is possible. The wanderer is known for both Illusions and Translocation, it would have been trivial for him to stage this!"
>>
"Kristoph, sit down and listen to me for a minute." You say.
He turns to you, and takes in a breath, as if he's about to yell at you. . and then closes his mouth again.
"We do not know what happened. . .and if you will remember, our main enemy is a master of illusions. So we need to investigate first."
". . We're still on our way, right?" He asks, and you nod. He grits his teeth, and then sits down.

My current guess is that the Wanderer is the cause of this. The question is what does he hope to gain from it, is is unlikely he is actually after the imprisonment of Fellwind so he wants to goad me into a certain reaction.

Now I'm currently planning on using divination on the past and showing people what really happened, this seems to lead to the possibility that he will get something out of me looking into the past. Any thoughts?

"I can't think of anything else." You say, and curtsy. "Thank you."
"It was hardly any problem." Azariel says, and bows. His shade fades into nothingness, and the black candle goes out.

You go down into Marigold's room, and grab the flower.
She snores loudly, and hugs her pillow even tighter.
You slowly leave the cabin, closing the door behind you.

You hear noises from Kristoph's cabin. You start to listen in, but what little you hear makes your cheeks bright red. You'll just... give them their privacy, and then you take the flower to the deck.

Kalak are quite long lived, nothing says she can't be open to things later.
>>
"So... you exchanged your powers to change the ankh? Change it how?"
Change it's very nature, the heart responds. But a change such as that goes both ways, not just one way.
"Do you know if you can grow your powers back?"
It is not likely. The powers it has now is all that it has- it can drink the sunlight, and commune.
"Would it perhaps be a good idea for Kell to nurture you, and you to nurture him?"
That would be. . preferable, the rose says. If Kell integrates it, then both Kell and the rose itself would both be bolstered.
"Why did you do this?"
Because she was willing to bloody herself to do it, the heart explains. It refuses to elaborate.

Welp, call up Kell so he can learn how not to be so GRAAWWWW from it and so the Rose can grow and live more comfortably.

"Even if you can't scribe magic upon yourself as you once did, can you still understand it the same way you did before?"
>>
"I'm afraid I still don't understand what was done to the Ankh. What was changed about its nature?"
The Heart gave the ankh it's wellspring of power, it explains. The Ankh's holder no longer needs to feed on the lifeblood of the living. The ankh itself is no longer. . twisted. It does not invade one's body, but instead cedes to it's holder's will.
"Even if you can't scribe magic upon yourself as you once did, can you still understand it the same way you did before?"
No. No, it cannot. It can only commune and drink the sunlight. When it is integrated with the troll, things may change. . .
You set the flower down, and then run down to Grayson, who is currently harrumphing in his sleep. You reach into his bags, and drag the troll out, and bring it back above deck.
The troll graws. . and you put the flower to his back. The flower's tendrils bore into the troll's back, and it squirms uncomfortably.

Fully integrating may take time, it informs you.

The flower doesn't know, it says. It will be able to commune with Kell, and that is all it knows. You give Kell a hug, and he squirms a bit more. . but then relaxes as you 'graw' at him.

"I will!" She says, and then you graw into her ear. She giggles.

"Yes?"
You quickly explain what had happened to the heart, and how it had become the flower. . and caused the Ankh to leave her body.
". . Thank you." she says to the flower in Kell's back, touching it gently with a finger.

You close your eyes, and try to open a path to your elemental, just so you can give it extra power. . .But you can't reach it, just like before. It's just fog. You sigh, as you waste more energy into the ether.

Now, you need to talk to Sirius.. but what should you say?
>>
>>19752965
Simple. Not writing any lines yet, but; explain to him about the Wanderer, about Fellwind's history with us, and that the entire situation makes not a lick of sense, and that we need to investigate thoroughly, both with mundane investigation and questioning, and with divination, before any judgement is made, as this may be part of a political conspiracy by the Wanderer to cause chaos in the Provinces for his amusement. If, after the investigation is done, it was indeed Fellwind, execute him, he's gone mad. If it is not, release him, he's innocent.

<Thank you, Lord Sirius. Hopefully we'll have some time for a nice cup of tea once this is all resolved. Could you give me a basic overview of what happened?>
There was a moment of silence.

<Well, this is all based on what everyone saw, but it's quite simple- During one of Lady Cerulean's balls, there was a. .disturbance. A small fire was started in one of the smaller rooms in her mansion, and as the mages rushed to put it out, a few nobles noticed Fellwind, spitting angry, run towards the Lady. He ranted something about 'hobs', and pierced her lung, throat, heart. . he didn't stop stabbing until the mages got back and were able to subdue him.>

<His weapon was a blade of simple steel. Nothing strange or arcane about it.>
>>
Thats rather cut and dried isn't it? Things are looking fairly bleak for Fellwind. Thank you for your time Lord Sirius.
>>
>>19753391
<This is unfortunate. It sounds like it was almost definitely him. I shall still divinate to the best of my abilities when I arrive, but I merely deliver an executioner, it appears. There's a chance that, if the conspirator is who I think he is, the murderer had magically translocated the real Fellwind into his place after being imprisoned and then freed himself with that same magic, but that may be hard for the court to swallow unless the divination goes well. Gap for inevitable 'wat.'

I have a bad habit of running into types like that. Some are powerful, wise friends. Others are not so amiable. The most recent scoundrel I've earned the ire of is known as The Wanderer. He has no face, no identity, no name, because he separated it from his very being. He's extremely skilled with illusion and translocation. And he may have taken on Fellwind's likeness, murdered the High Lady, and then magically put the real Fellwind into his place and escaped, framing Fellwind, hurting me and mine and causing chaos for the Provinces. That's what he does; he makes chaos, for fun. Because of these suspicions I want to divine the true nature of what happened and make absolutely sure of Fellwind's guilt or innocence, and of course, make sure that Kristoph knows who needs to face justice.>
>>
I believe The Wanderer is responsible. He is a very powerful person, apparently immortal who is skilled in both illusion and translocation. He is also impossible to scry as he has given up his name completely.

As to why he would kill the Lady I do not know. There could be a dozen reasons. To place his own agent on the throne, ti simply get her off it as she wasn't the most active Lady. To get me into Cerulean Province or to keep me away from a place I'm travelling. To distract me from something or some other reason that has nothing to do with me at all.

<Yes. His justification for everything he does is 'it's fun' but his definition of 'fun' is twisted beyond human comprehension. I'll need those mages present, as well as the highest-quality mirror and purest water you can find, in a silver bowl.>

You gently touch the Heart, and ask it how it's liking this new home.

When you open your eyes again. . he's actually wearing a simple brown tunic, the same color as his hair (and once, his fur). He was rather young, surprisingly, but tall and broad-shouldered. You'd thought he would be very hairy, but he's clean-shaven, and his eyes are just as wildly intelligent as they were when he was a dire bear. He looked around, then cleared his throat.

Are you talking about the time someone tried a diplomacy roll?
I didn't 'ignore' it, It's just that there's a difference between diplomacy itself, which is when one tries to non-magically convince someone to do something, and there's a truth spell, which allows you to sense if someone is lying. At the time, I thought that that specific post was a roll for diplomacy, not a truth spell, and thus discounted it.

Here's the post in question.
>>
>>19755505
... THAT'S what you've been drunkenly angry about all this time? Man, diplomancy is just a joke term on /tg/. It originates from charisma-heavy classes and builds in pen & paper games built around diplomacy, on such bullshit levels that, yes, it may as well be magical for how suave they are, though it is purely or mostly mundane suave.

But the post in question indicated truth magic specifically, with just the use of the word 'diplomancy' cheekily stuck to it after someone outright tried to roll diplomacy like a git; that really didn't have a reason to be ignored though it appeared to be a useless roll. So, Exabyte made a mistake there.

Is everyone satisfied, now? Can we stop gettin' mad at questan gaems over one potentially useful suggestion that went unused because of misreading? You don't see me bearing a grudge just because the natural 100 for Aquaman antics didn't get used in Nearfuture Cyborg Quest, when the post also contained two far more reasonable and not-insane suggestions that didn't have us calling the creatures of the sea to our aid.

Most of you can read this despite the lack of spelling

I didn't change any of the letters. I just moved them around.
>>
>>19755843
Except spelling, which is an ironic mistake.
>>
>>19755763
>Most of you can read this despite the lack of spelling
Are you not a native speaker? It's pretty easy to read stuff like that but I guess if you're not very familiar with the patterns you're supposed to be matching it wouldn't work.
>>
>>19755834
Now I'm worried that instead of us spending the timeskip creating a nice place for people to live we'll be spending it stuck in a box somewhere, going slowly mad.

Maybe. I think he'd be constantly nicking and cutting himself with his own spikes and blades, with every movement. With little bugs and grubs infesting the wounds and writhing underneath the epidermis.

We're LEETTLE GURL until the timeskip, then we'll be the Not Quite Little Girl that seeks to collect all the waifus. Or something like that.

Obviously she will still cuddle Grayson no matter if he is bipedal or quadrupedal. He's still Grayson, she's been doing that since she came to this world. Do you think a little thing like his form changing is going to stop her?

Also Grayson Husbando end, he's obviously the best choice and is of royal birth.

Ishelda should probably next thread tell him to lean down, kiss him on the forehead, hug him and tell him that she loves him and always wanted to do that.

The funniest thing about it is that there is probably that no one would really bat an eye.

Marigold probably started salivating over him the moment she saw him, Kristoph might consider making a fuss before remembering that he just slept with a transformed bird person, I doubt any of the Kalaks or Lizardmen would really care that much.

The only person who might make a fuss is Ell.
