>Fate Points: 1
>Signature spells: Summon Elemental, Control Magic, Soulfire
>Funds: Medium
>Location: Jormungandr, Hobgoblin isles.

Marigold is sleeping on her bed, and you're worriedly checking up on her- She's been unconscious ever since the ankh and flower had been removed- The ankh which is currently entirely wrapped up, and the flower had been relocated to one of the planters in Marigold's room.

You screw up your eyes and think. You don't know what the mask is- The Wanderer's identity, perhaps? That seems reasonable. But there has to be more to it than that. . .

Your throughts are distracted by Neiriel calling out 'You!' and smashing into something with her staff. You rush outside to see Gehenna on the ground, having been bowled over. Neiriel held up her staff.

"Where's your damn brother?!" She asked, and shook the staff menacingly.
>>
>>19725037
Ragnarok's dead, Neiriel.
>>
>>19725066
"Raggy's dead, Neiry."
>>
>>19725066
That would about sum it up.
>>
"Ragnarok's dead, Neiriel." You say.
"And he's here because. . " Neiriel asked.
"Because he wants to be." Kaliel said, opening the door to her cabin. "That's how queenie over here works. If you want to repent, you can repent. She's the forgiving type, and she's rubbing off on Raziel. Neither of them care what he's done in the past, and neither do I."
>>
>>19725129
"Gehenna gave up on Eidolon, driving the twins apart. Ragnarok... He couldn't. He thought he could stab Eidolon in the back once his plan to turn the world into a magical utopia came to fruition, and take the reins from the madman. He even invited Eidolon's soul into his body, after he lost himself completely. Apparently he didn't see how this would conflict with his plan. I wanted to bring them both into the fold, but I could only win over Gehenna. I still feel terrible about it."
>>
>>19725129
Yeah, what Creepybeak said.
>>
>>19725182
Really, "fold"?
>>
>>19725182
>He even invited Eidolon's soul into his body, after he lost himself completely.
That didn't happen. Even assuming that he actually turned into Eidolon which is unlikely (probably an illusion from the Wanderer to get him killed), he had no say in the decision because he was in stasis.
>>
>>19725182
>"Gehenna gave up on Eidolon, driving the twins apart. Ragnarok... He couldn't. He thought he could stab Eidolon in the back once his plan to turn the world into a magical utopia came to fruition, and take the reins from the madman
is fine. The rest of it... not so much. We don't know if he actually turned into Eidolon, or if that was simply trickery. I'm leaning towards trickery.

The second the last sentence isn't really accurate either. We just wanted them to not work against us.
>>
"Do you even know the kinds of things he and his brother did?"
"I do." Kaliel responded. "Destroyed Raziel's undead, stopped some of Uriel's schemes, killed the last High Lord Sirius. . .all on Eidolon's orders."
"Eidolon? You mean. . they were part of the game?"
"Gehenna gave up on Eidolon, driving the twins apart. Ragnarok... He couldn't." You say. "He thought he could stab Eidolon in the back once his plan to turn the world into a magical utopia came to fruition, and take the reins from the madman."
". .For what it's worth." Gehenna said. "I'm sorry."
Neiriel looked to the three of you, then sighed, and pulled Gehenna to his feet.
"Don't do anything else to anyone, and then maybe we can be civil." Neiriel said.
"There's hardly anything I can do." He responded. "Without my tome, I can't use my specialty very well."
". . .Fair enough." She said.
>>
>>19725243
How did your talk with Azariel go?
>>
Just a suggestion but at some point we should scry Vanko.
>>
>>19725243
Would it be possible to put Ragnarok's body in stasis? Just in case we'll need him later?
>>
>>19725204
It's a turn of phrase. What's the problem here? Maybe a little too religious a turn of phrase, but Ishelda does have a rather religious dedication to benevolence wherever possible, so even then it makes some sense.

>>19725214
He might have met Eidolon in his dreams. They do say that they are a window into the soul. Tons of fantasy has dreams as another plane.

>>19725232
True, it's conjecture. But how would he activate his illusion magic while in stasis? And why would he set up such a specific contingency? I still think he was literally becoming Eidolon.

Besides. 'Not working against us' naturally transits to 'friends' in this quest.

>>19725243
"Now, Neiriel, I'm going to assume you know what to do with the children? I'm afraid Azariel's instructions were little more than 'take them to Neiriel.'"
>>
"How did your talk with Azariel go?"
"It was very... informative." She said. "But we have a location I can bring Kaliel and Dariel to.. as well as raise my daughter."
"What?!" Kaliel asked- you see her surprised for the first time since you'd met her. "You're with egg?"
"I'm in human form now, so there's no egg. . but yes."
"Who's the father?" She asked.
Nieriel gave her a mysterious, cryptic smile in response.
>>
>>19725305
Just don't tell me it's that grumpy meaniepants Venus'
>>
>>19725305
Personally, I suspect it's Cassiel. Not that I think we should say it.

>>19725316
I assume you're going for the ridiculous here.
>>
>>19725305
Raziel was right! Congratulations!
>>
"Raziel was right! Congratulations! Just don't tell me it's that. . . " You say, spluttering as you try to find words for Venus.
"It's not the High Lord Venus." She said. "It was a human, yes, but they'll likely never remember me. Was a man with a most peculiar talent. . "
She shook her head.
"Miss Ishelda, may myself, Kaliel, and Dariel stay on board until we get to our destination?"
>>
>>19725348
No
And summon this goddamn Rattata
>>
>>19725348
of course
>>
>>19725348
"I'd be happy to have you. I'd been hoping to borrow a book or two of Dariel's, as well. It's come to my attention that my actual understanding of magic is... quite lacking, recently."
>>
>>19725348
Why are you even asking?
>>
>>19725348
I'd be delighted.
>>
>>19725348
"Of course"
We still need to make our minion creature thing with Kaliel. We've had that roll for how many threads now?
>>
>>19725274
I'll second this.

>>19725348
:Of course! But I should fill you in a bit about them, since I have no idea how long it's been since you saw the children. Dariel wants to be a warrior, so you will have to tutor him in many different arts and fields. I would suggest primarily shapeshifting, so he can be strong enough to fight. Perhaps a gryphon would be a suiting form. Sir Kristoph can probably teach him swordsmanship while he's with us. Kaliel is studying the nature of life, magical and physical. She's focusing on engineering new forms of life, largely living machines rather than any sentient or sapient ones. This work appears very questionable, but despite her cold logical approach, she actually has it very much under control ethically and is doing nothing warranting more than the odd inquiry about her research. Just don't be creeped out by the awful stares of some of her creations; they LOOK as if their thoughts are of pure malevolence but they do not in fact have the faculties to feel even the basest version of such a concept. Now, where do you need to go? We're on a bit of a detour right now."
>>
"I'd be happy to have you." You say. "I'd been hoping to borrow a book or two of Dariel's, as well. It's come to my attention that my actual understanding of magic is... quite lacking, recently."
"Well, let's go see to Dariel and I'll pick out some beginner books. From what Azariel told me, you can use magic without restrictions or limits, correct? Then I'll just get you the books on the very nature of magic, and wizard spells, summoning circles, and incantations. I don't believe you'll ever be able to use them, but. . you won't ever need to, either." She said, and you led her and Kaliel to Dariel's quarters. Neiriel came out with a small pile of books, and dumped them into your arms.
"I'm going to need to speak with Dariel a bit about his specialization. . if you don't mind." She said, and closed the door.

You were left alone with Kaliel, and it's . .rather awkward. So you say the only thing you can come up with.
"May I have your help with something?"

"So." She said, back in her room, a quill and parchment in front of her. "You want some kind of minion, right? What do you want it to be like?"
>>
>>19725406
Fluffy.
>>
>>19725406
It should appear non-threatening, but be capable of violence if necessary.
>>
>>19725421
Yes.
And with mind and emotions maybe?
>>
>>19725406
"Well. Maybe something amorphous? A small, shapeshifting being. Like a sort of demi-kalak familiar, a bird of prey that could perch on my arm or shoulder. Maybe a little like that flightless, scaly raptor you made, but without that awful glare. Give it a meager animal-like mind to start, but with great capacity for learning, maybe even in magic; I don't want to construct a being's mind, that would be simply wrong, so instead I will let it construct itself. And... Can it be FLUFFY?"
>>
>>19725406
"Something... Utilitarian, I think. Suited to mundane, non-combat tasks primarily. To just... generally help out, perhaps to assist in the building of what will be Arcturus, once the Warped Lands are cleansed."

I think that's what we're going for?
>>
>>19725443
So basically a pet kalak.
>>
>>19725406
Fluffy zergling
>>
What about insectoid of some type?
>>
Zerg drone please
>>
Why do we want a familiar again?
>>
>>19725450
Pet DEMI-kalak. It's outright a bird, or one of those little winged flying raptors. It's the equivalent of a kalak pseudodragon.
>>
>>19725477
BEAR IS DEAD
And zerg please or Rattata
>>
hey what about that zerg drone at 97 then the ratata at 75 infested as a roll of 96
>>
"Fluffy." You say. "Something. . utilitarian, I think. Suited to mundane tasks.. To just... generally help out, perhaps."
She sighs.
"I'm going to make it small." She said, starting to sketch. "And. . rodent-y. But capable of violence is necessary."
"Can it have a mind and emotions, maybe?"
". . . So you want me to make you a person? That's rather silly. I'm making something completely unique." She said, and started scratching out a strange creature on the paper. It had four long legs, and two strange limbs on it's back, complete with appendages and retractable claws. "What color do you want the fur?" She asked.
>>
>>19725477
Because more friends is always good. Now, how about we please everyone and make it a fluffy winged zergling-hawk?
>>
>>19725481
Uh, Grayson is not dead?
>>
>>19725481
What? No he isn't. Grayson's fine.

>>19725482
I don't even know what you're saying. This is a result of that 97, though.
>>
>>19725493
Oooo, Purple.

Or perhaps whatever was primary in the Arcturan coat of arms.
>>
Brown please i want it to shine too
>>
>>19725493
"Purest, shiny white. Blindingly so. For maximum fluffiness. The reason I want it to have a mind is simply because that's more useful to me than just a flesh-golem. The question is, can you do it?"
>>
>>19725493
We should be studying the magic she's doing in case we want to copy her technique later
>>
>>19725493
Rainbow.
>>
"Hmm. . .Purple? And white." You say.
"Sure thing." she said, marking the parchment.
"The reason I want it to have a mind is simply because that's more useful to me than just a flesh-golem. The question is, can you do it?"
"Most likely not." Kaliel said. "Wiping a mind is easy. Creating one is a bit more difficult. But to make something smarter than an animal is. . almost impossible. I can give it the mind of an animal, though. Like a dog, perhaps. Dogs are loyal."
>>
>>19725544
"That would be good to start with." Grin mischievously.

"That's plenty, thank you. Though, you could always take a look at Grayson's brain with that glass of yours; dire animals are far more intelligent than any normal animal, working from the same base of a normal one to be as smart as any man or smarter."
>>
>>19725544
"Why not just wipe it's mind, and I'll give it one later? Magic, and all that.
>>
>>19725604
Err, why not just keep its mind and build on it with magic?
>>
"That would be good to start with." You say.
"Okay. . "
She put a few more marks on the parchment.

Then she pulled out, from under her desk, reams and reams of paper, with hundreds, or thousands of marks. Every so often, she copied a line from one bit of paper to the one she's working with.
"Though, you could always take a look at Grayson's brain with that glass of yours."
"Won't work." She said. "Magic intelligence doesn't change the way the brain looks. And it's way too complex for me right now." She said.
>>
>>19725622
"There's a distinction between physical and magical intelligence?"
>>
"There's a distinction between physical and magical intelligence?" You ask, and Kaliel nods.
"Magical intelligence is. . strange. It can't be made, it just has to happen on it's own. Like the two artifacts you and Ell carry around." She said. "And it has no grounding in . . physical phenomena. If I were to take the glass to your dire bear, I would see no difference between it and a normal bear's brain."

She finished sketching- It looked somewhat like a large, yet very fluffy rodent, with two spindly limbs reaching from it's back.

If you knew what a zergling or what a rattata was, you could have easily called it a bastard crossbreed of the two, with extra fuzzy.

"How's this?" She asked. "Am I missing anything?"
>>
>>19725766
"Can you give the limbs some manipulators? Not necessarily hands. Pincers, or retractable tentacles, maybe."
>>
>>19725795
>retractable tentacles
I've made enough hentai to know where this is going.
>>
>>19725766
Perfect but is it capable of mutating into structure of some sort that will spread some type of organic matariel around and give structure ability to reproduce this being?
>>
>>19725804
Stop thinking dirty things! They're just convenient, they can come out of of slits in the spikes and do so without sacrificing their stabbin' capabilities.
>>
"Can you give the limbs some manipulators? Not necessarily hands. Pincers?"
"They already have pincers." She said. "You can't see it from the sketch, but these runes specify that the spikes at the top split into three digits. Not very adroit, but the thing's paws can do anything the . . 'hands' can't."
She shrugged, and continued copying runes.
"This will take a bit for me to set up." She said, hunched over the table with reams of paper covering it. "Go bug someone else."

She looks up at you, and gives you. . the creepiest look you've ever seen.
"I can call in this favor later. . So you'll just owe me." She said, and smiled.

You go back to Marigold's room, books in hand- She's still asleep, and you want to be there when she wakes up.
First, you need to try to scry Vanko. You close your eyes, and scry. You expend some energy, and you find. . nothing but fog. Almost as if he'd completely vanished.

With a sigh, you pull away from the spell. . And try again.

. . All you see is the mask. The faceless, featureless, porcelain mask that hides inside a pocket of space near your head. As if it can tell when it's been seen, it whispers 'Gareth' again.

"Oh, shut up." You say, and weave a spell around the mask.
It whispers. . but you don't hear anything. It worked. You pull your attentions away from the scry, and get to work reading.

The most basic thing about magic is that it is a form of raw energy. . One generated by the spellcaster, and kept within their body until used. In order to cast a spell, the spellcaster uses two different methods- somatic and verbal components, sometimes combining the two to amplify the spell's effect. However, the spell can be manipulated by the caster's mind, and familiarity with a spell- For example, to change the color a light spell emanates, or the shape of a fireball's explosion. . .

You keep reading for some time, until behind you, Marigold murmurs.
"Ishelda?" She asked, her eyes bleary.

"I. . I shouldn't have said that word, should I have?" She asked. "I- I'm sorry, I didn't think about it."
She hung her head, and then the airship shuddered.

"We're at the isle of man." Redglare called out, from above deck.
>>
>>19726217
"Where?"

Let's go see
>>
>>19726217
"When did we enter the Irish Sea? Why do I know what the Irish Sea is?"
>>
>>19726253
Probably the isle of former human slaves
>>
"Where?" You ask, climbing above deck.
"Well, that's what we're thinking of calling it." Redglare said, looking down and waving. Below was a large farming village, with humans and hobgoblins of all kinds. "It's one of the islands we're giving away." He said. "But I suspect the actual inhabitants will come up with their own name for it. It's where the humans were kept, mostly."

As the airship shuddered to the ground, Redglare spoke up to some of the other hobgoblins- children and women, mostly, you see.
"The message has been delivered." He said. "But they won't believe us until we start to return the humans."
He turned to some of the assorted humans.
"Which of you would like to come to Venus Province?" He asked. . And some of the largest, bulkiest men raised their hands, stepping foward.

"Soldiers." Kristoph whispered in your ear.
>>
>>19726304
"I expect all of you to behave yourselves while on my ship. It should only take us (Insert amount of time here) to reach Venus."
>>

>>

>>
"I expect all of you to behave yourselves while on my ship." You say, as you speak with the Tone Of Command in your voice. "It should only take us a day or so to reach Venus."
The soldiers, no doubt, can tell exactly what that tone means. They salute, and come aboard, bringing nothing with them but the clothing on their backs. The hobgoblin women and children, you see, are wearing even less than the humans- scraps, and rags.

>>
"Hey, Marigold." You say, as she climbs up from below deck. "Are you up for. . throwing a party?!"
"Yes!" She cried. "I get to make more cake, right?"

A few hours later, the soldiers- led by Captain Grimmauld, you find out, are all lounging on the deck, using chairs they'd brought from the cargo room.
"This is rather calm." Grimmauld said. "I expected more to happen. More than strange sweets and tea parties, at least."
"It's a ship led by a little girl." One of the soldiers say. "Did you expect anything else? Bhahahaha."

"Oh, sure, laugh at the little girl who saved your bums from slavery at the forges, or looking at your builds, manning The Wall, by storming the devil's castle, slaying dozens of abominations and later closing the hellish gates. Ha ha. Hee hee."

If he laughs again, give him the most serious face of dread possible. Just the abridged, condensed version of the tale should be enough, no need to mention Kyvann or Azariel.

"How would you like to liven things up? I have some terrible Lizardfolk alcoholic tea, if that would help you have a better time."
>>
You urge Grayson to come above deck, and the massive bear does- over the past few weeks, he's really been bulking up- and the floorboards creak.
"I must correct you- I'm not just any little girl." You say, as the massive bear walks up from behind you. "I am the princess of Arcturus, and will be queen properly, once the warped lands are cleared."

Judging by the looks on the soldiers' faces, Grayson decided not to bring his hat this time.

The bear harrumphs, turns around, and goes back below deck.

"Dress code?" The captain asks, climbing back into his chair. "I wasn't aware there was a dress code."
In response, you snap your fingers. . And hats fall from the sky, landing on everyone's heads.
He doesn't seem fazed- He just looks up at the brim of his own hat.
"I see." He said.

Grayson climbs back up, his hat balanced precariously on his head- it seems that the hat is getting a bit too small for him, and doesn't fit properly anymore. The soldiers seem a tad less bothered.

In addition to magical shenanigans, we should make introductions of the rest of the "crew," and maybe talk to the captain a bit, about his time with the hobgoblins.
>>
With a spell, you modify Grayson's hat so that it fits more properly. The bear harrumphs again, and then sits down at the end of the table, foregoing a chair.

As the rest of the crew (perhaps smelling cake) comes above deck, you introduce the soldiers to the crew. When you introduce Raziel, you hear a few crude jokes from the back, and someone saying something about this being 'a nice trip' but the captain just gives them a glare, and they shut up.

"So, Captain Grimmauld, can you tell me about your time with the hobgoblins?" You ask.
"Which time?" He asked. "The time I was fighting them, or the time I was helping them?"
>>
>>19726833
"Both, I suppose. I've heard stories from both sides already, but I always like hearing people's stories."
>>
>>19726833
"Which would you prefer?"
>>
"Both, I suppose. I've heard stories from both sides already, but I always like hearing people's stories."
"Fighting them was. . strange." He said. "They would show up at the coastal villages. . but they never actually tried to fight anyone. They just kidnapped, and never said a word. But when you drew steel. . they would become complete terrors, as if they were used to fighting something much larger and powerful than you. Waiting was the hard part. You just patrol across the coast, and just wait to see them in the distance. The myths made them sound like they were. . monsters, or unstoppable, ruthless warriors."
He shrugged.
"I much preferred helping them. When I and my crew were captured, they simply put us to work farming. We weren't. . mistreated, or anything like that, and there were people who preferred living on the island, rather than the provinces. It was. . simpler, and there were always new children being born, both humans and hobs. Before then, I hated them more than anyone. . well, not as much as the high lord, but anyone *else*."
He sighed, and leaned back.
"It was rather idyllic. It wasn't easy work, but it was calm."
>>

"Actually, you're spot on. Usually they DO fight something much larger and more powerful. Fortunately, the thing they were fighting is gone now from this world. That's why you're being freed."

"Freed isn't the word I'd use." He said. "More like. . being set loose. There's a difference. You saw those hobgoblins at the beach, right? How they wore scraps? They took the least food, they took the least supplies, and worked just as much as we did. They chose to do that. . Because they felt guilty. We were captured, yes, but we were. . honored, too, I suppose you could say."
>>

"Now, you heard her terms." The captain told the soldier. "Stick to them, or I'll give you hell when we get back."
"Yes sir." The soldier responded.

The duel was rather. . flashy, but the result was exactly as you thought it would be. Despite being weighed down by heavy armor, Kristoph's sword had much more reach than the soldier's short sword, and despite that. . .

Kristoph was *good*. The blade tore through the air, almost as good as the official melee spars you've seen at festivals. No, even better. At the last moment, when the blades were crossed, Kristoph did a strange twisting manuver- The soldier's shortsword was torn out of his hands, and skidded across the ground, where Raziel stepped on it to stop it.

She lit the candles, and arranged them in a circle. The candles sparked, and then burst into white, necromantic fire. "Normally, you create a circle like this when you open up a hole to another world, to pull outsiders in and make contracts. That's . . essentially what I'm doing now, but with a spirit instead. It means that I can talk freely with it, and it won't get out without me letting them." She said. "Ready?"

"As I'll ever be." You say, checking Rikar- it's still at your hip, and gleaming. You touch it, and the candles flicker. "Do you have it set up to return the spirit back to where it came at a moment's notice?"
"As long as the circle exists, the summoning will hold. When it breaks, it should send Ragnarok back." she said, then set the vial of blood in the center of the circle. She stepped back, and started chanting.

The space in front of Raziel, inside the circle. . twists, and Ragnarok steps out, small flames sitting in the pits of his eyes.

"What." He said. He did not sound altogether pleased.
"I'm looking for-"
"I'm not talking to you." He said, not even looking at Raziel. "I'm talking to her. My master." He says, pointing at you.

It's Mistress by the way.

Where did you put Raziel's book on ancestry?

When and how did I become your mistress?
>>

>Mistress
Ha ha. Ha. No.
>>
"Where did you put Raziel's Book on ancestry?" You ask.
"Far below the earth, hidden under Crescent island, Master." he said.
"When, and how did I become your master?" You ask.
He looks up to your eyes. . then takes a step back.
". . You're not her, are you? You're that whore who's killed me."
He snarled, and brought his claw forth- but it scraped across the inside of the shield, and he howled, bringing his talon back.
"You tricked me!" He called. "She'll erase me, now." He said, howling, and tore his talons forward. They scraped across the shield, and the candles flickered.

The space around him flickered.
"No!" He cried. "No!"

A black cloak swirled around him. . and then it was gone.
Ragnarok was, as well.

"What?" Raziel asked.

>>
>>19728448
>The who?

"Well, that was rude." You say. "Drag him back, and make him apologize."
"Sure thing." She says, and continues chanting.
Nothing happens.

Raziel recites the spell again.
Still nothing.

"This is strange." She said, and checked the vial. "It still has his blood in it, and it's still flesh, and reacting. . but he isn't being summoned. It's like there's nothing to be summoned. . ."

"That was something. I wonder who 'she' is. I suppose we'll find out soon enough. . and we know where your book is." You say.

"Yes, we do!" She says, and grins. "We can go there after we get to Venus and drop the soldiers off. As flattering as it was, I don't enjoy being groped. And there are other necromancers around- I suppose he just had gotten summoned by one of them before we did. . and then maybe this 'she' summoned them again?"
>>
>>19728472
Well he did say he would be erased, and now he's not there. Can a spirit be erased?
>>
>>19728472
"Necromancers compete like that?"

"Do any of the soldiers look reliable enough to take to New Arcturus with us? The captain Grimmauld's comment about there being so few humans hit a little close."
>>
"Well, he did say he would be erased, and now he's not there." You say. "Can a spirit be erased?"
"No, they can't. They can be bound, or sealed, or summoned, but not erased. All of the time and memories that go into building a spirit can't just vanish like that." She said. "Not without some kind of major ritual. Destroying multiple artifacts kind of ritual."
"Necromancers compete like that?"
"Not usually." She said. "But then again, wherever the afterlife is. . it's the afterlife for every world." She said. "So sometimes, necromancers- Bad ones, usually, go trawling for spirits. So out of every necromancer who trawls, one of them must have caught Ragnarok. I'm not sad to see him go."
>>
>>19728534
"Still… seems odd."

"He was misguided and something of a bastard to the end, but I still don't think he deserves whatever terrible fate has befallen him."

>>19728534
"The afterlife spans the realms? You mean that I could talk to my parents, my friends?" excitedly

"The afterlife spans the realms?" You ask.
