HEY BITCHES, ITS GAME OF THRONES QUEST!

Born the second son to Lord and Lady Terrevan, your lord was raised with his older brother and sisters in the families rolling holdings along the Green Fork of the Trident in the Riverlands. Always clever and intelligent, you were trained to lead men into battle, being sent to squire in the Vale of Arryn for Ser Kervin Gallan at the age of eleven. There, you learned the ways of a knight, earning our spurs at the age of seventeen after acquitting yourself in an ambush by raiders from the Mountain Clans in the Mountains of the Moon where you slew four of the wildlings and saved the life of Ser Gallan’s brother, being wounded yourself.
While you first imagined returning to the Riverlands to ably serve your brother and father, Ser Gallian mentioned your feats to Ser Gregory Redwyne, who tempted you away to serve in the Reach. Granted land on the northern coast of the Arbor, you pledging yourself to House Redwyne and House Tyrell. Taking the name Karban, you adopted a new coat of arms and the words “As Waves upon Rock” for your house. The founding of this house was fortuitous, as a bumper harvest was magnified by your clever management and careful stewardship. Lord Redwyne gave you more land, which was promptly developed as well, which has led to further economic success. After your lord visited your lands and you met his son, Paxter, and his lovely daughter, Dalyna, you are now in Oldtown, looking to meet an old friend and his son.

So now, the state of House Karban has never been higher. In Oldtown, we have a huge amount of business to take care of. Currently, you were on your way towards a famous in, the Goldengloom Inn, where the rich and powerful are known to collect.

Bitching, Game of Thrones Quest.

We should prioritize getting more information on the Brotherhood of Bearers so we can enter negotiations with them with the upper hand. I think we could get some serious economic power with them, they have contacts everywhere and if we get them to base their operations out of Saltmouth we can make good money from their own operations and trade better with other regions. It could be the first step to making Saltmouth a larger power in the trading world.
>>
>>19661973
This is a fair idea. The Brotherhood, you imagine, must be rather powerful if they are able to have traders on both sides of the Narrow Sea. Any kind of turmoil within the group could be the opportunity you need to move in and exploit that condition.

Arriving at the Goldengloom, you order one of the famous meat pies, and find a small booth near the side, with Ser Crane and Iylaria on the opposite side. The three of you blend into the fashionably dressed and simply disappear.

>Wat do?
Eat out pie and see why this place is famous?
Gather some information by carousing and eavesdropping?
Just kick back and relax for some time?
Look for bitches?
>>
>>19662044
Gather some information through carousing and eavesdropping. If anyone is particularly drunk we can engage them in conversation, act like a slightly interested party in the Brotherhood, but don't show our hand just yet.

Say we heard about them and some nasty business back home, get more details on them, their current situation, what they're looking for, that this branch has in terms of resources.

That meat pie is... Wow. Yeah. You can understand why the place is famous now. Flaky crust, big chunks of beef, lots of grilled vegetables stuffed in a gravy that is a mixture of beer and juices. It is like a bunch of people having sex in your mouth. If those people were made of delicious, tasty goodness.

We lean back and listen in as Ser Crane grabs some drinks and Iylaria kinda kicks back, carefully moving her Braavosi blades so that they don't knock against the scrubbed wood of the table. You can hear one guy talking about trouble in King's Landing. Apparently, Tywin Lannister is no longer the Hand of the King, and has marched himself back to Casterly Rock, locking himself inside and shunning visitors. In Dorne, there have been skirmishes in the Marches, but that is nothing outstanding. The real news about town is the Brotherhood, who have shaken up the mercantile world and are now splintered and leaderless.
>>
>>19662183 Cont.

The leadership of the Brotherhood, centered in Pentos, decided that this was a perfect time to change their structure... And by 'change their structure,' I mean 'consolidate power.' A half dozen traders were poisoned, a ship was supposedly sunk on purpose by agents of a jealous member, and two of the inner leadership were murdered in their beds by slave-assassins in the employ of other members of the Brotherhood.

All this activity was so bad that nearly a dozen of the main members fled to Oldtown, taking with them their ships and most of their portable wealth. Currently, they are just sitting around town, spending coin and basically waiting for one of their number to take a leadership role.... Which might not happen, as they are apparently 'piss'n themselves, I tell ya!" as the group is afraid anyone with leadership will get himself poisoned and the cycle will continue.
>>
>>19662239
Interesting, do we know how many ships and how much wealth they brought, the wealth in more of a general sense?

Also did we find where we can get into contact with the Brotherhood?
>>
I just back from watching the football game and have an important seminar once I wake up....fuck my timing.

I will update it next evening or so, once I have time...
>>
>>19662297
Some of the Brotherhood are renting houses and villas around the city. Others are living upon luxurious trade ships, in cabins that you could assume have all the comforts of a house on land. You passed some of the big, wide merchant cogs on the way in, and it would be easy to fill them with goods or people.

As for their wealth? You get rumors from everything of "They are broke, I hear. Their gold is just shaved coins, a bunch of foreign grifters, they are." to "I heard they have beds of gold, solid metal where they can sleep on their fortunes." You do get the feeling, though, that a faction of a trade consortium would probably have numerous ships and more money than you could imagine. Wealth is everything in Pentos, after all, and it would make sense that these men would be very, very wealthy.

And now, off to sleep...
>>
>>19662373
Sorry man. Also, thanks for all your hard work here. The other players really appreciate it.
>>
So sitting in the Inn, you and your guard are learning a bit about this Brotherhood. Ser Crane is talking with a merchantman out of Gulltown, and apparently the Brotherhood used to have players everywhere along the Narrow Sea before they imploded. All that is in the air now... It is a time of crisis and opportunity, depending on how skilled you are.

You are pondering the angles of this, when Gray Thom comes into the Inn, looking around. He finds you and rushes over, looking harried. "Lord, we have a small problem. Bushy and Tim were drinking in some rathole down by the docks, and kind of... ran into trouble."
>>
>>19662386
Interesting. They have plenty of money but they don't seem to have a goal, leadership or anywhere really permanent to stay. This is an excellent opportunity for us to make use of.

We should see to contacting them tomorrow and see if we can meet with them, preferably as many as possible at once because meeting with them one at a time would quite possibly lead to them poisoning the others thinking they're trying to usurp leadership with our influence.

>>19662482
Stand up.

What type of trouble? Give me details on the way.

Bring Crane and Iylaria and whoever else is with us.
>>
>>19662507
Apparently, they were dicing with some sailors off a fishing boat from Three Towers. Someone accused the other of cheating, and when Ser Bushy stepped in, some guy pulled a knife. Currently, they are barricaded in one of the upstairs rooms, and they sent Gray Thom out the window to find backup.... He ran into Doros on the way to find you, so hopefully some of your guys are already there. Otherwise....
>>
>>19662482
>Gray Thom comes into the Inn

The same Gray Thom who is currently training the archers in Saltmouth?
>>
>>19662540
Joy, lets head there with whoever we're currently with and see if we can fix this, preferably without killing people.
>>
>>19662557
Didn't we take him with us? He is a member of the Steel Guard... If we left him behind to train, then I look really dumb.
>>
We hurry towards whatever rathole these guys were at... Rounding a corner and descending a flight of worn stone steps, you see the drinking hole. It is a two-story building of salt-eaten wood and reeds, a few half-shuttered windows on the main floor and three or four ill-looking folks around the front door. Down by the water, you can see Doros and Andrew Flowers, pacing back and forth.

Upon seeing you, they hurry over. "Lord, what do we do? There is a small crowd in there.... Apparently, Bushy, the fucking dolt, hauled off and smacked someone around. Now all his friends want to kick in the door and tear him apart."
>>
>>19662611
While I bet that the Steel Guard we have with us could stomp them I'd rather not have to deal with a pile of bodies tomorrow.

See if we can open a conversation with the people, talk to whoever is in charge, or at least the loudest of them and resolve this peacefully.
>>
You march towards the front door. While you alone might not be overly intimidating, having five members of the Steel Guard with you should help.

The drunks and vagabonds outside the building give you a wide berth, making sure to come nowhere close. Pushing open the front door, the main room is a jumble of worn and stained tables, a motley collection of chairs, and a floor of half-splintered boards. Behind the bar is a balding, fat man with a greasy beard. He looks at you with something approaching distaste, until he notices your steel and finds something to do in the cellar. From upstairs, you can hear men shouting and cursing, and the sound of wood being hammered upon.
>>
>>19662705
>Wat do?
>>
>>19662705
Head up the stairs, our shield and sword ready but not threatening.

Put as much calm authority in our voice as we can and tell everyone to calm down. Then talk to the leader of this little mob and ask him what happened here.
>>
We mount the stairs, heading up and around the bend in them to see a rather interesting scene. Some swarthy-looking guy with a busted up face is screaming about how he is going to "stomp on your cock until you spit blood," while three guys are using a bench as a ram, slamming it against the door. Around them stand five more men, each worn and tattooed as only a sailor of the Reach could be.

You place your hand on the pommel of your blade. Behind you, you hear the dangerous whisper of Iylaria drawing her dagger, and you can see that Crane has his hand on the hilt of his sword as well. The figures before you are almost entirely focused on the slowly giving door, before you speak. "HOLD!" Your command brings everything to a halt, the men stopping to look at you in shock.

>Wat say?
>>
>>19662836
What exactly is your quarrel with the men inside of that room?

Currently we're scary as can be, I think we should get them to explain the situation and then pay them some small recompense in order to give them a dignified way out that won't embarrass them in front of their men, if we just demand they leave they won't really be able to back down without being seen as cowardly by their comrades so they are likely to press it farther than they should.
>>
Sadly, it seems the thread is autosaging (page 8 with constant replies)
>>
>>19662881

agreed, our man busted up his face, surely we can spare a bit of coin.
>>
"What are you men doing?" Your voice is loud and harsh, filling the hallway completely. It is the same tone you use on the battlefield, clipped and hard. Some of the men closest to you take a step or two back, while the man with the wrecked face steps forward. "Them bastards in there broke my face! Look at me, I am bleeding everywhere!" He basically screams it at you, spraying spittle and blood from his busted lips. He does look like shit... The entire left side of his face is a mess. Bushy must have really connected to do that kind of harm to him.

"You men are choosing a poor course of action." You take a step forward, still talking, still with your hand on the pommel of your blade. "Let this go, and let these men leave. They will trouble you no more and no one else need get hurt here over something so... unfatal."

>Roll 4d6 to get him to back down.

He seems to pause for a second. When they outnumbered the men in the room 5:1, it seemed like a good idea. Now, with a cluster of armed men in the hallway, it doesn't seem like such a good idea.

>Push him over the edge.

>>

>>19663002

Seems we already have the upper hand, bribe him with a reasonable amount of money for the trouble, we don't need our reputation destroyed before we even meet the brotherhood.
>>
>>19663002
It's a bit tenuous to try for intimidation. Bribe, tell him to buy himself and his friends some drinks and let bygones be bygones.
>>
>>19663020
"You know, I heard that someone downstairs was paying for drinks." You pull a small cluster of silver stags out of your purse, counting them out, slowly, in front of them. When there are twenty in your hand, you stop.

They get the idea, and put the bench back down, before trooping down the stairs. Mr. Wrecked Face takes the coins, with a "Thank you, m'lord." as he and his little group start yelling for wine. Pushing past the stragglers, you pound on the door, telling Bushy that if he doesn't open up, you are going to weld him in his armor and drop him off the side of the boat. He does, with a rather sheepish look on his face, and the two of you have a long, interesting talk about what "Don't cause trouble" means.
>>
>>19663068
You board your ships and decide that perhaps it is best for you to crash, since tonight has been eventful enough for your tastes.

Waking, you pull on some fresh clothes as you scare up a mug of beer and some bread, before taking the deck. You have the entirety of the day to yourself, and plenty to do if the mood strikes you.

Potential Activity:
>Talk to the Brotherhood
>Go shopping
>Chill
>Visit the Citadel
Or really anything else that strikes you. This is Oldtown, after all, a huge city of hundreds of thousands of people, and a port that brings in all kinds of interesting and exotic goods.
>>
>>19663110
We should probably start with a round of shopping, find some nice souvenirs for the people at home, and if we see anything interesting and exotic that might make a lovely gift for a lady pick that up as well.

Then we'll talk to the Brotherhood, preferably all of them at once to avoid paranoia and backstabbery. If we meet with them separately they'll all thing that we're favoring someone else and start plotting and poisoning, we want a nice cordial non assassination based relationship.
>>
>non assassination based relationship
Lawls.

We send runners and messengers out to talk to members of the Brotherhood, asking to talk to the splinter as a whole, rather than individually. Ben writes the letters, and makes sure they are couched in the correct terms, with a little bit of the language of Pentos thrown in.

The markets are a bustling mess of color, noise, smells, and people. You can see tall, dark-skinned men from the Summer Islands, wearing cloaks of a thousand colors. You spy a fat man on a palanquin, being carried by oiled eunuchs as he sips wine. Pickpockets, whores, and vendors crowd the sides of the marketplaces, looking for a customer or mark. You are walking with Iylaria and Doros, munching some fried cod on a stick.

We find them. Scented woods from the Summer Islands and places even farther south, perfumes that smell of crushed fruit and sweet herbs, boxes of spices from the east, and even someone selling a looking glass from Lys.

On the jewelry front, you find a magnificent chain of silver and opals that would look amazing if worn with your good cloak. You barter than man down for a song, promising to talk about what fine work it is in the Arbor. He throws in a few simple, yet elegant, rings for free then.
>>

Interesting idea... You send Iylaria to find a wine merchant.

You do find a hair pin, a beautiful piece of jade and carefully inlaid gold and pearl. The minute you see it, you know it would be a fine gift for a lady you were intending to woo. As you work your way through the market, you inspect fine goods and imported rarities, your station ensuring that merchants and vendors offer you only the best.

After around an hour of working the open markets, you have walked nearly 3 miles and have spent probably a pound of gold. Iylaria returns with a nasty smirk on her face. Apparently, one of the wine merchants near Bookbinders Way has several casks of Arbor wine that has brands that look just slightly... off. Just off enough to be believable to the average man on the street, but not good enough to fool a man who sees Reach wines every day.

We come in, talking with Doros about the price of "Inferior Dornish swill," before stopping dead in front of the vendor Iylaria highlighted. He looks at us, and immediately launches into a sales pitch. It is a good pitch, but you are much more interested in the wine. He opens a small cask, no bigger than a large melon. He pours you a glass, and you sip it carefully. The flavor is just right, the bubbles... It is Arbor Gold, if a little hard traveled.

You get to talking and he readily admits to it being from the Arbor. "The finest export of the Reach, if not all of Westeros, my lord. Taste the complexity, the smooth and clean finish, the way the bubbles dance across your palate. Is it not the finest thing you have ever tasted?" You talk and listen, and can't help but raise an eyebrow when he says he purchased the wine from some Tyroshi, who got it from a 'Lord Clawwater.' The Clawwaters are a minor house, bannermen to Redwyne, who hold several of the minor islands off the coast of the Arbor. They have never grown wine, their poor soil forcing them to fish the seas for crab, lobster, shrimp, and eel.

I think it's a script or something that permasages quests, it was made by some mod with a giant stick up their ass. It can be avoided by leaving the first post comment space blank, and use a recognizable image for the first post to make it easy to find and put everything in the later posts.

>>19663626
Ask him more about the people who sold it to him. I don't think he is part of the operation as he probably would have known that the Clawwaters weren't wine growers. What house does the false brands most closely resemble or is there a catch-all Arbor wine brand?
>>
>>19663700
The wine casks are branded with the two stamps typical of most Arbor wines: the official brand that serves as the emblem of all Arbor wines, and the brand that lists the wine as exported, so that harbor workers know to alert tax officers so they can mark the wine in the ledgers.
However, all Arbor Gold is supposed to have another brand, the mark of the specific winery that makes it, so as to certify its status. Most people don't know that, since they never see the casks themselves. These don't have that third brand at all.
>>
>>19663876

Lets try this one guys. Lifeboat launched.
>>
>>19663829

This is pretty obviously our smuggled Arbor Gold.
Praise the Wine. Tell the merchant that you are not from Oldtown, buy some of it, then ask him if he would bring you in contact with the tyrosi for a fee, because you want to also be able to enjoy this wine in the future in your castle in the Riverlands.
