Welcome to the second and final chapter of Primordial evolution: The Caverns of the southern continent. The topic picture shows your levels. You grab a creature, designate an area you want to have it live in, then do your best to make sure it survives. Pick prey, or plants, specialize in them. Rise to the problems your rival's evolutions will bring, and most of all have fun.
---------
fren. sprouting clones of itself from a wide and complex root system they track potential threats by vibrations, when in range they will lash out with their suprisingly long spike tipped vines.

Creeping ragas- spreads everywhere, on walls, ceiling, floor..spews its fruit. Is a major source of food for the herbivores.

False Ragas- Spawns swarms of false bugs, really its fruits, barely aware, sent to seek out flesh, gorge themselves, then return to throw themselves into its open stomach at the base of the plant. This stomach descends deep into its root system.

Hydra Cedya- Actually fungus. will track movement via vibrations, fields of them, staring at things all at once. When disturbed they will spray flesh eating spores. The creature will not die immediatly, but succumb to the spores and where it dies, a new field will begin.

Giant Cedya- Giant fungus. spews a blob of mucus and flesh eating spores instead of a powdery mist, grows like a solitary tree.

Barrage Ragas- Also huge. Spews out a torrent of sticky "fruit". Upon impact they have about 5 minutes of hyperactive growth and will attempt to burrow/ dissolve into their host, killing them and starting a new tree. After those 5 minutes they burn thru their reserves and become (safely) edible fruit.

LongShwirm- Omnivore

Bouncing wirm- small, herbivore, prey. bounces.

tunneler wirm- secrets acid, eats and rock and corpses. Eats and Excretes out of its "mouth". Will vomit a slurry of acid and filth at predators.

Slime Wirm- Secretions break down rock and dirt, it lives of the nutrients of the cave.

Laser Bord- Will use its light emitter normally like the flashlight bord. Can also strobe, or control brightness. Will shoot out short but powerful bursts of uniform wavelength light (laser) to drive off predators or neutralize hostile plants. When under duress it will begin its flappy dance. Wildly flapping its stubby wings, bouncing and shaking uncontrollably from the knees while keeping its feet firmly planted, this is its last warning. During this time it is overcharging its laser, then it will fire. The result is powerful, 3-5 second sustained beam capable of cutting flesh and searing bone. The downside is that the bord will loose all ability to emit light for days on end while it's organic lenses recover. Laser bord are not communal creatures. Has a thick boney shell.

Flashlight bord- Like its distant cousin the laser bord, but it only has a flashlight on its head with one setting, "survive". It is used purely for illumination, relying instead on its quick legs and smaller frame to run away.

Lung Bord- Lives in the most toxic environments, as a predator.

Communal Geist- Pack Predator of the upper levels. Blind. Hunts with ecolocation provided by the entire pack. Mammel. Sexual dimorphism.

Stalker Geist- Lives closer to the poison gas, has thick slimy skin, is a pack hunter as well. The slime communicates a great deal about the age, health, sex, and more of the creature to its kin. They hunt with a combination of echolocation and pheromone sensing.

Creeper geist- long dangling organs pick up vibrations while this beast stalks low to the ground. translucent skin, live only in the darkest regions.

Spider Geist- A lightweight cartlidge skelleton and membranes between its limbs allow it to gracefully descend from its ceiling pearches to stab its unsuspecting prey with a savagely modified coccyx (base of spine). Once the deed is done they will retreat and let their prey bleed out. Travel's freely between many levels.

Wevils Pool is a "predator" of the deepest regions of the cave. see picture for function. Immobile.

Wemil is a sticky living "glue" that engluf's its prey whole, then digesting them partially to move the flesh and organs to the center of its body while the bones provide better mobility and armor near the surface.

shelled emils- rubber chitinous shell, latches onto prey and takes its fill before falling off.

Emils- Standard body disolving, acid spraying, slime monster. grand pappy of em all.

Symbiotic Emils- will latch onto, then cover its "host" it will eventually disolve the host's skin forcing the host to become dependent on it. The Emil's will then eat parasites and debris, as well as some of the host's fluids.

The Inoglund Bulwark has further increased it's armor becoming all but impenetrable and now have a potential for even longer lives.

In addition the Inoglund Bulwark has begun supplementing it's omnivore diet with minerals to strengthen it's already tough shell.

The Bulwark lives an nomadic life and will wander around the Surface tunnels, Twilight tunnels and the Dark depths, but usually avoid going any further down than that.

Right. Here we go.

The bouncing wirm grow a slightly thicker hide. Their spikes also become tougher and more numerous in their effort to ward off predators.

Their eyes adjust to the strange light in the twilight tunnels, aiding their vision.

The dark patches on their backs vary in colouration. A healthy wirm will have a much darker patch than a sickly one, allowing for better mating selection and aviodance of potential disease carriers.

Wemils that lived in the Pit have started to absorb the heat and small amounts of magma around them and have become extremely hot. Because of this they would have to return to pit to recharge themselves from time to time.

I think this will be the final update to the laser bord unless anyone has any rockin ideas. A laser bord will develop an entourage of flashlight bords to light the way and give it a heads up of problems. In turn they gain protection, and scavenging off of the bigger bord's kills. Power of the laser will not increase.

sizes of bord gangs range to about 8 F. bords per every 1 L.Bord, with gangs gowning to as big as 3 L. Bords with accompanying entourages. They live in the first 3 layers, primarily eating fruit, plants, fungi, eggs, and smaller prey.

-----------
very minor touches to the evos. L.Bord got a tail..it needed it. and the F.L.Bord got better talons, and glowing spurs for its wing tips. They can communicate a lot by illuminating one or the other, flashing them in patterns or one at a time, etc.

from last thread. shame on me.

The lungbord further adapt to their odd niche. they now need only occasionally supplement their diet with prey animals for vitamins and minerals surviving mostly on the respiration on the heavy cave gas into oxygen. Their natural lungs have even atrophied. Likewise their mobility has become more dependent on their buoyancy within the gas, bounding about like an astronaut on the moon. Their prey is mostly any weak or young animal who wanders too close to gas filled chambers and clouds.

A separate population of Lungbord begin living in the Pits. Their vibrant colouration actually serves as camouflage, as the glowing lava bathes the area in a glowing orange light.

These creatures also, as a result of the heat, evolve *very* efficient heat regulation in the form of hyperactive sweat glands. Pit Lungbords have much shorter lifespans than their Common Lungbord kin, because if the constant strain of heat on their bodies doesn't get them, their constant sweating can easily dehydrate them in an effort to keep cool. Fluids are an essential resource.

the common inoglund turns out to have about 20 feet of length per feeder tentacles tightly coiled inside it's body. these are used primarily to consume ragas fruit from a safe distance without setting off vibrations, but one can assume they are useful for defense as well. If an inoglund is eviscerated or otherwise disemboweled its feeder tentacles will spill out in a horrifically ropey mess.

the feeder tentacles are in fact, its entire digestive system.

Awesome, postan'.

> Shortshwirm
Levels 1,2, and 3
Small two legged scavenger, lightly armoured. Can also subsist as a geophage (it eats dirt) by using its back tentacles that drool rock-digesting saliva.

> Shortbeaked Flashlight Bord
Though easily mistaken for its distant cousin the Laser Bord, the Shortbeaked lacks such offensive capability. Prey species with ineffectual leathery armour. Very prolific breeding to compensate. Provides food for many predators.

I was the one who created the Shortbeak, so I took some liberties in adding details. I figured it could provide an excellent food source for the clusterfuck of predators we have going on.

The Pack Bords, now live in almost constant illumination. As a result, both varieties of Pack Bord have gained new eyes, and a keener sense of vision. The F. Bords have also gained razor like ridges on their beaks. These ridges shred muscle, and help take down prey more efficiently. The L. Bords, only using their beaks to eat, and not attack, have no need for such additions. With these new beaks and their swarm tactics, the packs can now take out much larger prey. Their diet still needs some plants, but they are shifting towards an all meat diet.

The L. Bords have become more dominant. They eat first, and decide when to move to new hunting grounds.

A new species has developed, separating from the main Inoglund Bulwark line.
As some Inoglund B. consume more minerals, a diet rich in silver and other reflective sediments creates a shell with a polished sheen. Many predators, with their animal minds are confused by their own reflection and leave the mirrored beast alone in confusion or run in panic.

As a result, the Mirrored Inoglund Bulwark takes its place among the collection of cave creatures, cohabitating concurrently with its cousins.

Here is an editable version of the communal geist picture!

About the geists, as ng already stated, the communal and stalker geists are actually just sub breeds of the same species. The deeper the geist population lives, the thicker slime they excrete, as their skin is very easily irritated by the gases that seep in to these tunnels. All geists are slimy though. They are very slippery creatures, and thus, getting a firm hold of them is hard. This isn't eased at all by their extreme flexibility. The geists can twist their bodies in almost mind bending ways.

The geist slime also carries pheromone messages for other geists, and it serves an important role in the otherwise mostly sonar and body language based communication of the geists.

By the power of humor, the rule of cute and the spirit of shogun glund himself, I create THIS!

The angry bouncer!
It claims these rolls: 1,1,1,1,6,6,6,6.

After inhaling too much of the gases over generations, it causes radical alterations in the small bouncer wirms.
The angry bouncers are always angry, all the time. They constantly hop around, trying to attack creatures that are far bigger than itself, futilely nibbling their legs and toes and furiously bouncing against their shells and hides in their vain attempts to cause some damage to the bigger creatures.

The angry bouncers move in large swarms. When they spot their enemy (anything) they bounce towards it rapidly, bellowing their fearsome war cries (Wryyyyyyyyyyyyy!) and then they attack it. They attack it until the slightly inconvenienced creature either gets away from them, or swats them aside.
Curiously, it seems that they taste absolutely horrible, because for some reason, creatures tend to immediately vomit them out after eating them.
This might also be caused by the fact that they continue to fight on inside their foe, their legs kicking, spikes stinging and jaws biting the innards of their foe.

These creatures are quite common, as they breed like rabbits. They eat everything they can get in their mouths.

The Pits Lungbord (PLB) has developed sense mutation, metabolic rate, metabolic rate, move constantly, nerves, nerves, camo, and a reconfiguration.

It's skin camouflages as lava, actually glowing with heat and it constantly twitches and moves its skin (similar to how a horse moves specific muscles on its skin to ward off flies) in order to enchance the illusion.

A rapid heartbeat creates incredible friction, and thus heat, circulating at high pressures and near-boiling heat. Such high pressure is this, that the creature can even shoot this boiling blood out its eyes (like a horny-toad lizard from the southwestern United States).

However, containing these fluids at such high heat the Pits Lungbord has to "sweat" out its blood, lest it burn and scar the lining of their arteries. Thankfully, its rapid metabolic rate also replaces lost blood cells quickly.

The reconfiguration deflated its floating back, painfully removing its ability for flight.

This took me long enough.

The geist population in the dark depths develops curious traits due to the effects of the gases and evolution.
The most noticeable feature is their elongated bodies. The geist were always very flexible creatures, but these deep geists have taken that to extreme. Their bodies seem to be able to twitch and bend in ways that should by all sense break bones, rip sinews and destroy joints, but to these geists, these movements are natural. Their bones are actually very flexible, and their joints very loose. Their hundreds strong muscles support their and allow these mind bending movements to occur.

Their most important changes have happened inside of them however. Their metabolism has been driven to overdrive. They can move and act extremely fast. They charge with burst of extreme speed, jump and bolt around their prey. They seem like shadows dancing around a fire when they assault their prey. They are extremely twitchy, their blood is constantly being pumped with adrenaline and their nervous system is constantly on the edge. Their movements seem erratic, spasmodic even.
Their increased metabolism burns trough their energy reserves very fast, as well as generates loads of heat.
To went this heat, the slendergeists seem to be constantly panting, as well as sweating their thick hormone rich slime everywhere.

The dark caves provide far too little food for these creatures, and thus, they have begun to raid the upper layers for food.

A new form of symbiosis is born when a symbiotic emils tries to merge with a deep tunnel geist.
The thick slimy skin of the geist prevents the emils from melting it's host skin and properly merging with it, so the jelly like creature is forced to instead feed on the slime excretions of the geist.

As the emils eats the slime of the geist, it itself replaces the slime's function. It becomes an autonomous slime layer for the geist, that keeps it clean and protects it from the flesh eating seeds and spores that can be found in the caves.

The geist pride however, usually drive the geists infected with the symbiote away, as they can no longer recognize it's scent. These lone individuals are forced to either survive alone, or band together in the rare change they encounter other ones like themselves.

A new cedya species emerges.
The Emperor cedya originates from the rare instances in which hydra cedya colonies began to grow on a great cedya. As their root networks intertwined they formed mixture colonies and over time, the genes in their spores mixed as well.

The great cedya has a varying number of smaller eye stalks that it uses to monitor it's environment. These eye stalks have slightly atrophied, but still functional spore sprayers they use for attacks.
The main trunk of the emperor cedya mushroom has a large spore cannon. It lacks eyes, but because of this, it can now launch globs of spores much farther away.

Emperor Cedyas are relatively rare, often found in the most nutrient rich areas.
Their spores have specialized into two castes. The reproductive sleeper spores, and the offensive eater spores.
The eye stalks only shoot out eater spores, while the main stalk can alter between different spores.
It uses eater spore shots to kill food, and sleeper spore shots to plant long hibernating spores to the victim, that will start growing when the conditions are right. (Host is fat and full of food.)

Uh, wow. Them rolls. I'll try to go through this in three stages.

Exposure to the cavern fumes quickly changed the Creeper Geist from the creature it once was. It caused an unending, ravenous hunger to take hold of them, driving them outwards. They become increasingly territorial creatures, and consider the very caverns themselves their territory. Outside of a brief mating season it is rare for two C. Geists to survive meeting each other. Their metabolism is ramped up to extreme levels, and they simply do not wait between meals, going on the hunt again while still gulping down their previous catch. Anything they are conceivably capable of taking down is fair game to the C. Geists, and they will readily fight entire groups of prey.

Between their constant hunger and their lightning-fast metabolism, the Crawler Geist simply becomes a fast animal in general. They become capable of extreme land speeds, and become vicious fighters, with reflexes powered by an incessant mania and constant supply of food. Their limbs become more powerful, to carry themselves between meals, catch their prey, and occasionally, even now, to flee from certain death. Their chest cavity expands massively to allow for a larger heart and lungs, and their blood vessels become more visible, constantly vigorously pumping blood.
>>

46 KB
>>19626197
The Creeper Geist's evolution is further driven by the gases, as they cause massive body deformations. Eventually, those with enlarged pelvic areas and hind limbs are selected for, as they are more capable of taking advantage of the C. Geist's newly attained speed. Their gait changes, focused on propelling themselves forward using their powerful back legs, and their tail elongates in order to assist in this. As their pelvis expanded, the crest on their back, once connected with that area now splits off from the back of the body.

Cannibalism becomes a serious issue within the C. Geist population, as newborns are often eaten by their own mothers. Birth is often delayed until a large animal is taken down by the mother, at which point a forced birth occurs. The mother will proceed to distract herself with the flesh of the prey, and the newborns, who emerge developed enough to hunt small animals will participate briefly in the feast before quickly dispersing. C. Geists cease any social interaction, and there is no learning among their young, as they are driven entirely by instinct, simply scoffing everything in sight when not sleeping.

The only universal aspect of Creeper Geist development is their incredible hunter, which causes them to eat anything in sight. They become more than just aggressive - as a species, they are suicidal, attacking whatever comes this way, regardless of size, number and danger. They will eat flesh, bones, plants, appetizing-looking rocks. Their jaws stretch out, exceeding the limits of their mouth, bulging outward with a set of sharp teeth. They do not fight as other animals do, they bite down until they manage to rip a chunk of flesh out, which they immediately swallow down. By the time they take hardier prey down they will often have a stomach full of meat already.

During mating season, their crest will become aflush with blood - this signal is the only thing that can temporarily distract the C. Geists from their craving, and after mating they will often attempt to eat each other, resulting in a bizarre case of sexual dimorphism in which the females are typically larger, further endangering newborns. How the species survives is anyone's guess, as it seems to be driven only by their huge need for food.

Due to the raised pelvis, the seismic organs move to the front of the body, some atrophying in the process. With the C. Geists frequently breaking unheard-of speeds, the seismic organs are frequently torn by friction, and become little more than bundles of constantly expanding nerves, only the Creepers' incredible metabolism allowing them to recover quickly enough to be functional.

As a separate population of Geist migrates deeper to avoid competetion, their signature slime starts to dry out. While some return to higher levels, some stay, and those who posses thick hides stay alive longer. As the millennia pass, this thick hide develops into scales, and keeps the moisture in and the mutagenic gas out.
As a result, though, the complex pheromone signals that their Communal cousins possess has been lost in the process.

A side effect of this thicker hide has been a slow, gradual loss of dimorphism, nowhere near as stark as their relatives.

The Scaly Geist is born (native to Levels 4 & 5).

The C. Geist's rampaging hormonal and nervous systems mean that constant stimulation and input is required, or they run the risk of becoming self-damaging, either ignoring the limits of their own bodies and simply breaking themselves, or actively attempting to eat their own flesh. This is not the only health issue the new Creepers face, as they spend their lives running and fighting, which puts a huge load on their already deformed muscular and skeletal structures. Even so, many older Creepers are able to keep going beyond any sane limits, eating until they in turn are killed and eaten.

So concludes the transformation from fairly tame ambush predators into subterranean gluttonous honey badgers. Sorry about the half-hearted illustrations and saving in .jpg, I was going to redraw it after, but it's actually fairly late here, so I'll do it in the morning unless someone else beats me to it.

A reminder, Geists are mammalian, even though they resemble reptiles.

Alright, those Longshwirms in the deeper levels begin to mutate, growing darker, until their carapace seems to be made of shadowstuff itself.

It's abdomen splits, in time flattening into a bony fish tail, and with this it takes to the underground rivers and lakes. Here it eats aquatic shoots all day, grazing for the majority of its life like domesticated cows, rarely pausing in their feasting.

The reconfiguration switched up its arms and legs, buckling their bones until bent and broken, then reset and recovered. Their skin around the leg ends up looking gnarled as a result.

Tumorous growths form on their beaks, and the males use these to battle for dominance in competition for mates.

The regular Longshwirm remains in the upper levels, but the waters underground belong to the Deepshwirm.

A new species of wirms diverges from the slime wirms.
The Flesh borer wirm's skin has hardened, forming a resilient but flexible shell for the creature. It has also developed many, many more teeth, all of which are extremely tough and sharp.
It also has gained better tremor sense, in addition to developing two infrared sensitive patches to the place it's eyes used to be.

The Flesh borer wirms live fast, they never sleep. They use their short lives in search of prey, that they then burrow into and and devour a chamber for themselves.
Their maws and acidic excretions allow them to easily burrow trough soil and flesh alike.
They lay hundreds of eggs inside their host's body, that will hatch and become new worms while their parent dies. These small wirms devour their host inside out and then begin their search of a new victim to house the next generation of the Flesh borer wirms.

Trough mutations caused by the gases, the stilt geists gain healing factor, that causes damage to their body to regenerate extremely fast. As a side effect, they start shedding their skin constantly, as the regeneration quickly replaces the old dead cells that make up the surface of their skin. This rapidly growing skin is extremely irritable by many things, such as light.

The ghoul geists are extremely overactive. Their rapid regeneration causes them to hunger for food constantly. Their senses are on the edge all their life, their reactions and reflexes are almost instantaneous. They don't sleep, but they have periods of lower activity, during which they rest in the ceilings of the tunnels.

The goal of the headhunter parasite is to overtake the body of another creature. This usually happens by ripping of the head of it's victim and then invading it's remaining nervous system with the headhunter's own.

The headhunter then lays it's eggs down the host's throat, and uses the host's body for protecting and eventually feeding it's young. When the young hatch, they start consuming the body from the inside, and the adult headhunter dislodges itself.

Usually, the headhunter can keep the body working for about a week, before it becomes too damaged to function anymore.

The bond between the emils and the geist becomes more refined. The emils now acts autonomously, but it's behavior changes according to the pheromones the geists excrete. When the geist is agitated, the emils sprouts long jelly tentacles and lashes at anything nearby it's host. When the geist is calm, the jelly also calms down.

The geists who have been infected with the emils have formed a sub population of their own, as the non infected geists shun them.
Over the generations, these emils geists have grown slightly bigger and more muscular, but they haven't diverged into their own species, as the emils still infects the normal geists as well, and a steady flow of genes from the main population finds it way to these infected geists as well, because the infected normal ones are chased away from their prides.

They often float around the cedya colonies, absorbing the spores the fungal growths shoot out at other creatures, and towards the fus itself.
As the cedyas see in infrared, the relatively low heat bodies of the fuses are almost invisible to the predatory mushrooms, allowing the fus to feed in peace. They are only noticed when they move longer distances, or when they intentionally heat up their trap tentacles to get the cedyas to futilely shoot at them.

These cedyas lack eyes, but they too have grown into predatory creatures.
The excrete sweet smelling and nutrient rich spores and have glowing stalks, that they use to both spread around and attract creatures to their colonies.

The mushroom hunts by rapidly growing poison excreting roots into the victim. It is then sucked dry of nutrients by the colony. Because the cedyas are quite small, and the occasional creature only supplements their diet, they don't need to kill that often.
The trap cedya isn't as voracious carnivore as the other cedyas are. The glowing colonies are deathtraps, but only relatively few creatures. If a creature is willing to take the risk of trying to feed on the spores, it can find an easy way to get itself fed. The looming death is always present in the glowing fields however.

The slendergeist incursions to the upper layers of the caves have led to interbreeding between the two sub breeds of communal geists.
The communal geists of the upper layers have gained many of the properties of the slendergeists, such as the heightened metabolism and overactive nervous system.
The females of the common communal geists now have variance in their body types that ranges between their ancestral appearance to the extremely elongated bodies of the slendergeists.

The males do not exhibit the elongated traits, as the male hormones suppress the genes that cause those alterations.
Over all, the communal geists are now faster, more agile, more active and overall, more dangerous predators.

On the geist behavior.
The geists are extremely social creatures. They are in almost constant multi-sensory communication with their pride during their whole lives. Female geists, especially, react badly to loneliness. The male geists tolerate it better, as they are driven out of the pride by the alpha male when they reach adolescence, and forced to work either alone or in small groups.

Geists have two layers of communication, the conscious vocal and body language one, and the subconscious chemical one. Their chemical communication happens trough the pheromones and scents their slime carries. The geists can get accurate information about another geist just by sniffing or liking their slime, information such as health, mood and so on.
The geists bond with their pride when they rest, by gathering up in "cuddling" piles, in which their slime transfers pheromones across the whole pride, which eases the inner tensions as well as makes the individuals more tied to the whole group.

At last my masterpiece is ready enough to post. (gonna make that background later)

Wemils in the pit had gone great mutation caused by the gasses. The genes of bodies they had devoured started to mix with their own and altered their appearance to be somewhat similar to the animals they had eaten. Alteration of their bodies and increased consumption of magma have changed their appearance greatly to look more like physical beings than simple slime. They now roam the caverns trying to find more prey to sate their hunger and with their increased resistance to the heat their heat conducting properties are lesser so they now can travel higher in the caverns before the magma starts to stiffen as it cools down. They are extremely dangerous as they attack whatever they encounter with pure rage and as their bodies are composed of magma and slime their regenerative properties are astounding.

Each demil looks different as their appearance looks somewhat similar to the creatures they mostly ate when the mutation started and the one in the picture shares physical similarities with the geist as it mostly devoured them for dinner. in short they are walking angry machines of doom that are really hard to kill but if they wander too far from the heat of magma they start to turn into obsidian statues.

Won't waste a picture for this, as it is more of an behavioral update.

Over the generations, the headhunter parasites develop less lethal ways of overtaking the host's body. Now, instead of chewing their head off, the parasite bores trough the head, and more or less lobotomizes it, only leaving the parts of the brain responsible for basic life functions intact.

The bodies of the hosts are now more or less alive, but beyond any kind of salvation from this hell they have been put into. The parasite uses this body for as long as it stays alive. The period is entirely dependent on how long the parasite can sustain the body, as it directs it to hunt and feed.
The larval parasites it lays inside the host feed on the food the host is directed to consume, and when they are big enough, the host vomits them out.

The recessive traits of the mutant Scaly Geist grow more pronounced. The red-scales have erratic and extreme metabolic fluctuations.

When awake, they hunger, and as they grow up, the hunger that came to many species strikes them. They proceed to eat almost everything available, even other members of the pride. After gorging themselves they sleep for days.

By the time the Scaly pride learns to kill the red-scales ones, enough of them have devoured their tribe and escaped, then met and bred (oddly not killing other mutants).

Another effect of the gas is indeterminate growth, and these creatures grow bigger with age, but as they do so they sleep longer. Some of the larger ones may sleep for centuries at a time, their heartbeat slowing to once per hour at times. Of course, such creatures are terrible once roused, and when they awake they ravage the surrounding area for weeks, eating almost anything they can stuff into their mouths, or mating with others of their kind.

Rare, but feared, ladies and gentleman, I give you the Dragon Geist (drachengeist?).

Regarding the lungs, they have kinda found themselves a niche that isn't exploited by other creatures.
By metabolising the gases, they increase the amount of organic material available to the caves, as they themselves create it from the gas.

They could work as a prey creatures for many other animals. I would imagine that the lungs breed very rapidly, as they seem to lack any real defensive measures, so they must secure their survival by just reproducing extremely fast.

As they feed on the gas that hasn't been really utilized by other creatures, they have oppened up a whole new source of nutrients for the whole cave system, as other creatures who eat the lungs transfer the biomatter that originated from the gas to other parts of the cave.

(I find it hilarious that the mostrous titan bord has been reduced to a floating sack of gas, how the mighty have fallen indeed.)

isn't it great. Evolution doesn't have to continue into more and more complex creatures just into what works to survive. Look at blind cave fish. Those are creatures that once has full functioning eyes with complex retina and lens with rods and cones an all that jazz and now they have only bare flesh and a hidden vestigial nerve.

The more spectacular greatness could come later if the lung are used again as a starter species in another thread. They'd have started as bords evolved, devolved and then evolved again as the progenitors of an entirely different species. That would be awesome.

Part update, part fixing something.

Cleaner Hoppas are an offshoot of Lesser Cave Hoppas, which resemble the Greater hoppa except for their beaks and size (Greater are close to pig sized. Lesser are half that).

Lesser Cave Hoppas rip apart and pick at corpses to feed on raga seeds and seedlings embedded them. The picked corpses make good food for carnivores, since they don't need to worry about being killed by the growing raga.

One of the Cleaner Hoppa's limbs becomes a sticky, feather-like comb used to brush off spores sticking to creatures, which it then licks to eat them. The other remains as a dexterous set of tweezers. They are ever present where Cedyas grow.

The geists rely on ambushes from the shadows in their hunting. They need to stay hidden from their prey as best as they can. Even though they lack sight, they can sense alterations in the intensity and amount of light with their extremely sensitive skin. Because of this, the geist "feel" when they are in a shadow.

The bords with their intense light emitting organs have been a problem for the geists for generations. The bords use the light to easily spot the geists, and the powerful light rays burn the sensitive skin of the geist. Because of this, the geists have slowly started to develop a meas to make themselves harder to see, even if they are illuminated.

The geist slime gains multiple layers with different optical properties. When light enters these layers, it is trapped in it, as it reflects between the slime layers and "bends" around the geist. This causes the outline of the geist to all but disappear, making them hard to spot, even if light is shined upon them. This also protects their skin from getting burned by the bord light, though lazer beams are still as lethal against the geists as always.

A splinter species of the lungs emerges when some of them migrate to the upper caverns.
The lighter amount of gas forces them to be even more reliant on emils, and eventually other creatures as well for sustenance.

The stinger lung is a very simple predator. It uses it's proboscis to feed on the blood of other creatures. It detects them trough air currents, and moves around by blowing small amounts of gas from the tube on it's backside.
It's limbs also develop to allow them to cling to ceilings and other surfaces, as well to keep their hold on their victims.

They reproduce by budding off miniature versions of themselves from their underbelly, at almost constant rate. These mini lungs feed on the gases and on the blood of animals such as the big ones do.

The sub breed of the symbiont bound geists has grown more differentiated, but they are still not a true species of their own, as the symbiotes still continue to infect normal geists, which are then forced to join up with the symbiote infected prides. Some symbiont geists downright kidnap females from normal prides and make them their own mates, if they are unable to become leaders of the symbiont pride.

in game: this is the latest version of the lineage of the short beaked lantern bord. Having evolved an extra set of legs to carry around its increasingly heavy body It is a large grazing animal. Content to do nothing but eat fruit all day, erey' day. It is a rapid breeder. They travel thru the caves single filed in herds called "convoys." Their body is lightly armored with thick sheets of leathery skin (orange) and very thin, pliable skin (grey). They have some feathers on their ass. its used for mating displays. They are pretty dumb, but they chirp and sing quite nicely, very social, will stop eating and die without the company of others, when everything is fine, they are happy joyful creatures with no defense other then their mass numbers. An interesting fact: they mate for life, widowed individuals will stop eating and wander off to meet their fate in the caves away from the rest of the convoy.

Out of game: i was making food and playing world of tanks. then i needed to do this. I figure when tribal rolls around they will be good food/ leather animals. probably too stupid or weak to be of much other use.

Over time, the carnivorous lung offshoot becomes more and more predatory.
Their body starts to gain new appendages and features in quick succession, as ancient, long dormant genes activate and are re purposed for new tasks. Their claws become stronger for attacks and for carrying prey, they develop six long tentacle like appendages that they use to ensnare their prey.
From their sides, fin like sails sprout out, that allow the creature to move around better.
Their proboscis is stronger and sharper than ever, allowing them to easily pierce the hides and shells of the majority of the creatures living in these caves.

These predatory lungs are still very stupid however, and they navigate based on air vibrations. Their hunting tactics revolve around grabbing the prey with tentacles, killing it with claws or impaling it with the proboscis. They are opportunistic hunters, and they will attack anything that disturbs them.
They reproduce by budding off smaller versions of themselves, like their ancestors did.

Pool Ragas seem pretty tame in comparison to most varieties, so have this.
Greater Cave Hoppas will swim out to the plants and pluck fruit from them to eat. As the fruits are still ragas, there is still a degree of danger in eating them. It becomes instinctual to eat around or spit out the seeds of the fruit.

No picture as this is a behavioral change.

If something's not specialized to eat raga seeds, it'll probably result in the plant growing inside of the creature, thus killing it.

The lung nervous system is a broken and shrivelled network of nerves. However, the recent evolutionary activity has caused developments in the lung nerves as well. A new point of activity has risen near the mouth of the lung, as the sensory organs require the nerves for relaying the information they gather from the environment to the other parts of the lung.
The old nerve center at the other end of the lung remains at it's atrophied state.

Hmm, I approve. But it seems like some of the diseases need to be more detailed. For example, which 'lineage' can be infected by the disease, etc.
A more specific example would be the Diablo Eye working on, say, short-beaked lantern bord and its 'family', but it won't manifest on the lungbords (making them carriers), and it won't affect the Overbords. Or maybe it affects the bord family, but won't affect the wirms, etc.

Here is another:
Greenlight: a fungal infection of flashlight bord's light organ, superficially turning the light green while eatings it's way into the brain through the nerves. it eventually takes full control of the flashlight causing it to blink rapidly, emulating a 'help me' pattern at the same time the Flashlight begins bleeding and excreating infected puss.
Pack members trying to help the infected are infected as well, and experienced packs will force any infected away as soon as possible.

First off I propose Lungs be renamed to Blungs.

Evolution with out a pic sorry, I have a friend who will postpone when he gets home.

A minuscule breed of Emilis That attaches to the placenta-eggs of the blungs and attacks the budding baby Blungs, forcing itself inside. It then consumes and repalces one of the brains allowing it to tap into bothe the nervous and circulatory system. It then transforms the placenta laying area into an Emilis laying area, and causes the blung to lay them asclose to the placentas of other blungs as possible the e-blu g acts normal other then this fact.

Picture to illustrate this process.

Also, a slow internal development in the blungs has started to happen due to this parasitism.
As the emils devours the small brains of the blungs, the newer brains are forced to grow to compensate the loss.
They have also started producing additional amount of the spawning slime, that helps them to compensate the loss of young. This results in increased need to feed, and thus increased aggression.

The overblungs now hunt in swarms to bring down bigger prey.

File: 1340981010868.png-(24 KB, 800x600, Mobile cedya.png)
24 KB
A splinter species of the parasitic cedyas emerges.

The mobile cedya has undergone outwardly quite drastic changes, but in truth, they resulted from few simple mishaps in it's genome.
A certain mutation caused the same types of hydraulic veins that move the stalks of the cedya to develop into it's root system.
This allowed the cedya to move around in a limited fashion, after growing out of the corpse of it's host.
Movement was already something the simple nerve clusters of the cedya understood, as it naturally directed it's host towards suitable areas in which to die so the cedya could grow.
Because of this, it wasn't a big leap for the cedya to become fully mobile. In few generations, it's root network coiled up into 4 stumpy legs, and it's body reformed to it's new lifestyle.

The mobile cedya is omnivorous. It eats trough the feeding roots that dangle from it's "belly", which quickly grow over potential food sources and digest them. It has a spore cannon that it uses to hunt, as well as 4 tentacles. The lower tentacle pair has stronger set of spore sprayers, but lacks eyes, while the upper pair has heightened vision due to their increased eye number, but they lack spore sprayers.

(Feel free to come up with new mobile cedyas. They don't have to be based on this body type at all, as the cedya's body is composed of tightly woven fungal networks, allowing for quickly changing and very varied morphology.)
>>
>>19671425

Forgot to mention, that green blob on the "head" is a photo synthetic organ the cedya uses to signal bigger creatures and to light up it's environment. Their eyes can see both IR and normal light wave ranges, so more illuminated caves mean that the ceyda sees better.

The floating ragas evolved from the creeping ragas. It's fruits started to contain more and more lighter than air gases, until the whole plant started to hover.

It gathers the water and nutrients it needs trough it's numerous hair like roots. The roots are coated with slimy substance, which neutralizes the cedya spores, allowing the ragas to feed on them. The floating ragas is most often sighted in humid areas, such as rivers and so on.

It controls it's floating height by venting out gases and absorbing water to it's roots, until it is in the optimal height for photosynthesis from the light that comes down from the surface.
This ragas type is almost exclusively tied to the uppermost caverns.

It reproduces trough the root fruits that it drops down when they mature.

Over generations, the overblung starts to incorporate the emils to it's own biology, the acidic jelly like creature becomes a part of the placenta eggs itself, helping it digest and absorb nutrients from the ground.
In exchange, the emils gets to spread around, live in the relative safety of the blung innards and gain easy access to food. A symbiotic relationship is born.

Now, the placenta eggs quickly grow a wide emils field around them, that digests the detritus and other organic material and uses it to fuel the growth of the blung spawns.
The adult blungs have started breeding in the same place for increased protection, thus forming large spawning fields. They bring their kills to these emils fields to be digested for their spawn. This is all due to their increased intelligence that resulted from their brain-growth that was needed to handle their bodies as the emils consumed their secondary brains in their other end.

The overblungs are still quite dumb, and their co-operation with each other is very basic. Their attacks aren't co-ordinated, and they rarely help each other. They tend to stick around each other for protection and higher change of managing to kill something.

As the geist raiding on the blung fields continues, the blungs slowly become more and more intelligent, so they could better co-ordinate their defenses against the attackers. (Now on the level of pigs.)
They also can now communicate with each other. Their communication is based on waving of their bioluminescent antennas and howls they let out from the gas tube in their back end.

In addition, a curious event has occurred in these fields. Mutated blungs with atrophied gas chambers have started crawling around the placenta slime, feeding on bugfruits and the corpses the overblungs bring to the fields.
These blungs would normally die very quickly, but because of the placenta fields, they survive and breed.

The placenta fields occur in the uppermost caverns. They often start to consume the normal vegetation of the area, until only placenta fields remain. Thankfully, they are still not very common. Some plants like frens have started adapting themselves to these fields, their long root network feeding from the slime, and weakening it, so the fren plant can continue to live.
In similar fashion, many of the cedya's have started using their expansive root network to keep the field from consuming them completely.

The blade shwirms move in small herds, grazing on the creeping ragas fields and eating cedya spores.
They use their blade appendages for three things. Balance their running, defend themselves from predators and for fighting over females.
When the shwirm uses it's blades, it rises on it's back feet and violently kicks and flails it's front limbs towards foes.
Both genders have these blades, but on males, they are slightly bigger.
The fights between the males are more like show offs. They usually just wave their blades at each other, and push them against one another, instead of really trying to kill the other one.

The blung placenta fields slowly but surely incorporate the great cedyas and the fren plans to themselves, as the two organisms provide ample amount of defense for the fields.
This defense is needed, as many other cave creatures have grown more and more eager to pillage these fields for all the juicy food that is just laying on the cave floor, the growing blungs, the placenta growths, the bugfruits and even the emils slime itself. All these things are completely edible by numerous creatures, and the overblungs are hard pressed to defend their nesting grounds under the assault of the other fauna.

The crawler blungs diverge into two breeds, the Blunghounds and the Harvester blungs.

The Blunghounds are fast creatures that stand on legs that evolved from their secondary pincers. They are often the first creatures to respond to the alarm calls of the bug fruits, and they will attack any creatures that lack the signature scent of the placenta fields with relentless fury. These small creatures also hunt outside of the blung fields, they move in packs and attack other creatures, swarming them and then carrying their bodies back to the fields.

The Harvester blungs are more passive. They only leave the fields when they depart to search for detritus, which they then return to the fields. They also often help the field to expand by removing flora that is in its way. The Harvester blungs also clear away unwanted parasites from the fields, such as hydra cedyas and shield emils that try to eat it.

Both of these splinter species reproduce independently from the main overblungs, though all the three breeds can communicate with each other.

Some of the harvester blungs have started defending themselves by spitting their digestive fluids at their attackers.

Although the different blung breeds are actually different species by now, they themselves help and protect the other blung breeds when they can.
This is because they can still communicate with each other, and as they are all part of the same placenta field type biome, they do not make distinctions between the other blung breeds and themselves.

The blungs eat parts of the food carried back to the field, the bugfruits, and even the emils/placenta slime itself. They do not eat each other.

A new blung breed emerges from the spitting harvester blungs.

The Spitting blung is a larger creature, that attacks with it's acidic digestive slime.
It's "lung" is filled with lighter than air gases that allow it to support it's weight.

In truth, it's digestive acid is emils based substance, that will actively start digesting and eating at anything it touches.
These spitter blungs have grown to be an important part of the hunting, defense, and general survival of the placenta fields.
The slime they spray pre digests the corpses that are gathered to the fields, and when it is sprayed on soil, it helps the proper placenta field spread over itself.

The blung hunting groups usually consist of dozen blung hounds, 3-4 overblungs and one spitter blung. Together these creatures can bring down many dangerous beasts of the caves.

The armour plates meld together, turning into a hard rhino-like skin. While this does serve to defend against predation, the main purpose of the hardened epidermis is defense against the creature's own shock attack.

Every so often a wayward bolt will find its way towards the Toruuz firing it, but where once this would cause the creature to fry up like a Christmas turkey (and the smell likely serving as a dinner bell to nearby critters, endangering the whole herd) now it just causes the Toruuz to be dazed for a few moments.

As a result of past self-fryings though, the creatures no longer travel in herds, as fried Toruuz ancestors were eaten by predators lured by the smell. Those Toruuz who survived quickly "learned" to be loners, and the species is now rarely seen in groups any larger than a single family (consisting of a mated pair and up to three chicks).

Delivered as promised.
I hope you don't mind if I ad a little fluff to them.

A splinter species of blade shwirms emerges.
These bipedal shwirms evolved from a small population of shwirms that lived in very humid upper caverns. The humidity originated from an underground water fall, that poured deep into a large crack in the caverns. This meant that there was loads of water in the air, but not that much in the ground. The water condensed to the walls and ceilings of the cave, and to small pools on the cave floor. All these things together meant that there was abundance of floating ragas and creeping ragas everywhere, but not that many plant species on the ground level.

Over time, this shwirm population began to diverge from the mainline, as their bodies started to become more suited to bipedal stance which allowed them to grab food from higher up. They fingers became more dexterous, allowing them to grab ragas fruits easier.
They also became omnivores, as even with their newfound height, they still needed more food than they could get by just eating ragas. They started eating other wirm species as well, such as spider wirms, and also scavenging corpses for extra sustenance.
>>
>>19710159
When I started giving the Longshwirms front legs instead of little caterpillar nubs way back in the first cave thread... this is pretty fucking close to what I imagined. Even more impressive considering that I'd stopped evolving the Longhshwirms about midway through this thread.

We will see if IG is willing to go with this.
But if he is, this means that we get our third race of bug people. With bug girls...
>>
>>19714059
Your unwitting forte, eh, Nad? We'll need a name for them as a species, Longshwirm doesn't sound very fitting if they are to become a sentient race. Might I proffer Irwimoid, Irrim, and Irriwem/Irrewim/Irriwim for potential nomenclature?
>>
>>19714130
Shwirmnids?
>>
>>19714205
Maybe, but that's kind of a mouthful to say (or maybe that's just me), and it sounds a little too cutesy for my taste.
>>
>>19714302
Cutesy isn't necessarily bad. Take for instance "Bord".

Also, I just like how it sounds sort of "fancy".
>>
>>19714355
True, it's combining similar words that resulted in Irwimoid. I combined (shw)irm and humanoid, you combined shwirm and hominid.
>>
honestly, i think this continent is still pure magic. instead of using any of the previous races, this one might be all new material. while not in line with what IG had in mind, it "feels" a lot better. Im personally excited about the concept of Geists, shwirms, and whatever the surface world vomits out. its glorious.
>>
>>19714662
Indeed. I love these games, something about them just puts my creativity and imagination into overdrive.
>>
IDEA: if we can't come up with a good canidate for sentience on the main southern continent, perhaps the Shwirms could migrate out of the caves, seeing as how they have eyes?
>>
>>19716247
Hohoho, don't worry, South will get a max of 2 sentients, 1 from under and 1 above.
>>
>>19716309
But I thought we'd already decided on the Geists being the cave's sentients, or are you going to let these Upright Shwirms take that slot instead.
>>
>>19716697
Well, it depends on which one fulfills the requirements first. Maybe I'll do a coin toss if they get too hard to choose.
>>
>>19716838
Or maybe one can uplift the other in a manner similar to the Gohroks on the Eastern Continent ingame?
>>
>>19716953

could work. we have had a lot of "failed" sentient races. ones who are smart, but never really got the concept of long term thinking on their own, which is pretty vital to progress.

but, i look forward to seeing the races grow, regardless of what happens.
>>
Okay, part of this is because I want to see the caves turned into some Giger-esque funhouse, but what if the Geist start farming the Blungs? The blungs' creep can then be shaped by the Geist into the strange shapes, even made to grow around existing structures, a biomechanoid architecture!
It'd be even crazier if this all happens after the Geist have some sort of "robot uprising" scenario against their Irrim masters.

The farming of blungs could be a failed experiment on the part of the Irrim, but the Geists, for some reason (possibly something to do with pheremones or slime-based communication) are able to utilize the Irrim's scrapped project, using it to develop their civilization.

Also? Ooze-Mail. A Geist puts some of their slime in a cylinder, the receiver sniffs/tastes it and knows "Oh, Cindy is feeling very upset, she must want someone to come talk." Or, depending on the information in slime "we're having a baby shower and you're invited!" (tasting the horomonal change in an expectant mother?). Gross but practical.

>Geists become masters of genetic engineering
>Travel the stars
>Meet some locals, call them Protoss
>Protoss get all stupid, leave em to sort out their differences
>Find another world
>Make things like our blungs
>Blung-like things turn on the Geists
>Geists go into hiding
>Plot of Starcraft I begins

Anyways, that is flipping brilliant, and I love it

They made the Zerg because they were nostalgic about their pets back home?
I miss Bessy so much...

And now I'm the last of my kind.

That or the Geist somehow go on to develop into the Alien/Xenomorph, possibly changing their own genetic structure in a drive towards some philosophical perfection, the "perfect organism"...

Maybe both...
"It is only then we realized, near the brink of extinction. We, the Xel'Naga sought to create the perfect creature, instead, we must *become* the perfect creature. Our servants (client-races), will transport our new forms to various worlds, to test out the viability of these strange shapes we will soon take."
Last log of Geist Bio-Savant "Prometheus"

While the Zerg slowly make their way across the galaxy, headed for the Koprulu Sector, Earth becomes a plutocracy ruled by the corporations, leading into the Alien series. It is this corporate tyranny that leads Earth citizenry to rebel and form the U.E.D. in the aftermath of a successful revolution.

The pressure inside the planet went critical. The continent shattered, in one massive event. It would be felt across the world, but no where so severely as the southern continent. The caves would be destroyed in places, and ripped open in others. Survivors, Welcome to the surface. ((please give the surface till the end of its thread before untold rape begins.))

Hoom... the break-up of the South is about the same time the Rift happened in East... and those are shallow seas between the continent-pieces.
And I think the northern piece should be connected to the southwest piece, because the river ecosystem would disappear with the breakup with the mountainous terrain it came from.

This also allows for a sizable cave network under the now-West fragment.

here's a quick edit.

What the fuck was this even for? To just give Cervini the finger, let nongent have his little LOL-EVIL-DEATH-RAPE-MURDER creatures and to unleash them on the world?

I'm sorry to be such a bitch about it, but fuck, man. I just needed to get that off my chest, and besides, you told Fortune to be blunt, so I figure I will too.

I know and I'm kind of hostile, its just nongent's style seems to fall into the same patterns over and over again. I haven't really played but I've lurked and it's started to really irritate me. Always with the "super-baddest-most-ebul" creature "made of death and lol-murder".

Maybe I'm just being an oversensitive prick about it, but figured I'd speak my piece.

Actually nongent, I had a similar concern, I was kind of hoping for the unique development of a civilization based entirely underground.
>>
>>19726953

Releasing the cave creatures to the surface was planned long before this, so really, ng only did what we had agreed upon already with IG.
>>
>>19727546
Well if Fortune won't say it, I will. It's the Enclave all over again. Ruining the isolation that makes for interesting development with invasion. No interesting separate development, no diversification, no, it *has* to be mixed and muddied before *gasp* variety develops.
>>
>>19727594

Do note that this isn't happening right now.
This is the end of the cave threads, so posting that update here is appropriate.
The surface thread is far from reaching the caves chronologically.

There will be AT LEAST 2 surface threads before the cave stuff is introduced to them, so there is plenty of time to develop interesting shit on the surface.
The conflict that will result from the two biomes mixing will probably be interesting. And what would be the fun of making all this shit for the caves, if it would be then abandoned and forgotten, never interacting with the wider world while being stuck underground?
>>
>>19727641
I dunno, I, at least was just wanting the culture exchange to be late tribal stage... that's all, have like an entire tribal game set underground, with everyone coming up with different ways to survive in this rather alien environment.

"Several centuries, people lived, loved, died, and fought wars beneath our feet... and we never had a clue."
It'd be like finding Atlantis actually existed or something, this crazy alien society right under your nose.
>>
>>19727693

The thing is, IG degreed it that the absolute max number of tribal species for the southern continent would be 2.
So one from underground and one from above.

And really, caves aren't a most hospitable environment for intelligence, mostly because they tend to make things pretty small, and require very little energy. Brains consume loads of energy and thus they aren't suited for environments in which there is scarcity of food, like in caverns.
>>
>>19727735
It's "decreed", btw. And don't give me that, you haven't been following hard science rules like that... ever. I mean, fucking jelly blobs from space? How the Hell would they survive in space, and *then* re-entry. Not only that they interbreed with this planet's species? Bullshit, they might not even store genetic information the same way (Deoxyribonucleic acid vs. whatever else alien evolution might have fucking come up with).

Then you've the massive ramels with whole cities on their backs, the fap-fuel that are the Skulk (at best a ham-handed attempt at dryads) and genetic memory sharing with a macroscopic species that reproduce by division. Yeah, like that's gonna happen, fission occurs because the creature in question doesn't have a lot of information to pass on, get any bigger and the amount of data that needs to transfer gets a bit out of hand.

It's fine if you don't wanna follow science, they'res a whole genre of that, but don't pull the fucking science card now.

I mean, at least the Fortune fags are *pretending*, though they haven't really done a fucking good job (fucking Skullroots...), especially when nongent comes on in and just decides to "dip the critters into his pool of malice."
Oooh, so dark and edgy you are. /sarcasm
Thanks for shitting on whatever potential FortuneFag's game had.

That was me. Your insults are misdirected.

Come rage about this in the irc instead of shitting up this thread.
We don't need that kind of attitude ruining our game.
>>
I'm gone for an hour and half and someone gets butthurt. Oh my.

On the topic of underground Isolationism: I reject that, since I wanted to make a bunch of thieving geists that formed an Underempire, that would one day RISE UP AND CONQUER THE SURFACE.

Well, maybe not really.

But anyways, no more evolutions for the caves?
>>
>>19728074
Oh let's just make an obvious reference something that's already been made. Fucking typical.

Don't worry, I won't be around here anymore, I've lost interest in this game.
>>
>>19728074

Probably not, seeing how the thread is nearing it's end and the surface is opened.

Really, when we start thinking about what creatures reach the surface, I think that they would mostly be things from the upper layers, initially at least.
The creatures living in the deeper areas, such as the pits have specialized to their niche, and have little reason to really spread out from them.

Awww. Didn't mean to make him more mad...

Although, we did not lose anything of value, judging by the way he didn't want to work through things.

But enough of that. Do who's going to be the sentients, the Geists of the Shwirmmen?
>>
>>19728122

And I honestly doubt you will be missed.
That kind of attitude isn't wanted here.

The wast majority of my creatures aren't reference ones, and if they are too much for you to bear, then I guess this game just isn't for you.
So unless you have actually something productive to contribute, feel free to disappear. We don't need people flinging pointless insults at each other over a freaking internet game.
>>
>>19728159

I am still rooting for the geists, mainly because of the unique aspects of their echolocation and how it would shape their culture.
The shwirms seem to be just bug people.
>>
>>19728190
Yeah, the Irrim are smart, but I think the Geist have one Hell of a head start, especially given their complex communication (including the "your [emotion] is delicious" tasty slime).

Geist don't smell your fear, but they *can* taste it.
>>
Thread is now beyond bumb limit.
Shall we continue this on irc?
(though I must go to sleep soon.)
>>
>>19727855
Only because you've brought this up, and the thread is already sinking, and you're probably gone, I actually had an idea for how the LemUy got here. I don't have the details, but it gets the point across.
On another world there are bubbles of gas in sedimentary layers of rock with spores trapped deep inside. A large meteor impacts this planet planet, and debris is thrown into space. I'm talking a crust-eradicating strike here. Once this new meteor begins reentry on this world, it of course starts burning, but a sizable piece strikes the surface. Over time, some of the meteor is eroded away by time, exposing some of these bubbles, and thus releasing the spores into the ecosystem. As for the interbreeding, that never happened. Some LemUys entered symbiosis with some of the plant life.

As for everything else, all I can say is either "methane," " think Catachan," or "psychic phenomena."
