> Also, I am considering starting another quest thread. (This is by no means certain, depends how hard life kicks me subsequently.) What might people like to see?

You have the distinct feeling of Lena leaning to look over your shoulder, then realise she's in your head. 'Oi, Lena!'

'Yeah, yeah, sorry,' she grins. 'Seriously though. That girl?'

'Tamsin, you mean?'

'Yeah. I'm just saying, if you do fancy her - she's... there's something needs looking into.'

'You just told me that,' you said. Lena smiles, pats your shoulder, and tells you to text her or Kevin or Dawn if you need anything at all. Then she's gone.

You sigh, reply that you'd like dinner, and then go and take a nap. It's 5 in the evening when you get up - the sun shining through full-length windows. Tam wants dinner at 8; your choice of place.

> Roll d100 for insight into what food she prefers. Or don't roll if you don't want to try and remember.

Oh, also, from your few days here, you've figured out something amusing in your building. One of the maintenance guys, a big rugged Polish guy, has a terrible crush on the Spanish (or Portuguese, you're a hobo, not a linguist) cleaner who comes round to vacuum the walkways every other day. He's been carrying her vacuum for her every time she comes, but the two of them hardly talk owing to the language.

Ah, these guys.

(Says the 17-year-old psych.)
>>
Personally, I'd rather have more psychic hobo than another quest. I enjoy it a lot.

The summer roadtrip one didn't excite my interest as much. What happened to dark spirit, by the way ? It's been a long time since I last saw it, though I spend a lot of time here.
>>
>>19435060

> 62: mild success is best success!

As you get around to cleaning the flat up, trying to match what you figure are Numsang's standards of parquet shininess, you think over what you've seen of Tamsin's mind.

Hmm. Food... you catch a glimpse of Tamsin eating Chinese takeaway. And pizza takeaway. And Indian take- what the hell? Does the girl never leave her house or something?

From what you can tell, though, she seems to eat Chinese takeaway more than others. Maybe she'd be up for that?

And you are just about to finish scrubbing the greasy bits from around the hobs with a cloth, and go search for convenient Chinese joints, when suddenly a message comes from Tamsin.

'Sorry cant make tonight take care xx'

.... what. That's... that's abrupt.

> It's about 630 now, after all that scrubbing. This should do. What do?
>>
This glamour thing occupied some of my thoughts. I think that its potential usefulness meets a major problem, in that we can't see the effect it has, except through the comments and behaviour of normal people.
We can't finetune it, we can't check if it's dissipating, we can't even be sure it's working from the start.

To make the most of it, we'd need a norm sidekick.
>>
>>19435136
It's tuesday now ?

Text Laura to see if she's all right with all the drinking and the problems with her roommate.
>>
>>19435084

Yeah, the summer roadtrip thing... dragged a bit. A lot, rather. It's unforgivable to call it a roadtrip quest when 2 threads in there's still no roadtrip...

As for Dark Spirit, apologies but I really am not very sure how to continue. I started off thinking it'd be great to run a game where you run Mordor, but on second thought running Mordor's actually rather boring - you're the dark lord, you have a fortress, you send the armies, they win. There's less scope for Nobleman style politics, or Psych style... whatever fun stuff Dylan does.

... or that's what I think, but please speak your minds as well.
>>
>>19435136
> Does the girl never leave her house or something?

Well, that's actually a possibility considering that someone's gotten hooks in her. That might warrant investigation, especially if this is a case of a really, really quiet manifestation.
>>
>>19435179
I think Psych and Nobleman are more than enough. They cover a nice range between them.

Plus, as a GM, I've learned that the more campaigns a group has going at one time, the more likely one of them will get forgotten about or sidelined.

I think we could take a walk around town, exploring the people and the streets, hoping for adventure, and training some skills on the way.

We could walk to Chuck's, see if he's back home - we did tell his mother we'd try to send him back, or to the gang's street, on the off chance of us catching an important thought.
>>
>>19435149

Should I bring up the sassy black/Latino guys for you to pick from now? Or would you rather not have a sassy black/Latino tell you how hot you are?

Seriously though, this is an idea. Well. Making norm friends is always an idea. You're a FreeComm Psych, that's what your mission statement kind of is.

>>19435173

Laura answers. 'Yes! It's fine. No problems now! :D Lynn asks if you're going tomorrow!'

That's pretty cheery of her! You hope it's real cheer. Sadly, you can't tell over the phone...

>>19435189

Hmm. What are you considering, then?

> You can roll d100, with a penalty, to remember her address. One's address isn't really something they're thinking of during sexytimes.
>>
>>19435225
Alternatively, we could search the public places around for schoolgirls to examine.

>>19435189
Do we know her address ? If there's a psych controlling her, she might have cancelled on us on his orders. We could go check on her from afar.
>>

Things to do leftover from last thread:
- Investigate Lynn's friend group, as Lena mentioned that someone that strong will probably also have stuff going on around them as well. Particularly Tina, since we were getting jealous vibes off of her.
- Investigate the bull sculpture thing. It's been mentioned that a Creation sometimes has a physical representation that makes it easier to imagine. The two might have something to do with each other since Lynn and co. were planning something related to that bull for the fair.
- Sneak into the school, maybe check out what the deal is with that group that Laura's former friend is involved in.
- Keep Kevin (Was that the guy? Having a hard time keeping names straight) apprised of our findings.
>>
>>19435225

That's an idea. You could do that while headed for Tamsin's, though. Which is handy, since...

>>19435286

Was she really thinking that hard about where she's living while you were eating ice cream off... okay never mind. But really?

... or was she thinking about where she's living because... she's being forced to, somehow?

>>19435271

Tuesday evening - you're not sure if Mayne Parish's club day is today. Well, for Laura it's Saturday, and for Lynn it's Wednesday... but still, around town, there could be people from that school and others too.

> So. I take it we're going out for the evening! But where to first?
> Mayne Parish Girls' High
> The Mall
> Neighbourhood main streets - you know there's two here, the east street which is more high-end, and the west side where Chuck's family lives, which is rather dodgy
> Elsewhere (general suggestions are fine)
>>
rolled 45 = 45

>>19435325
Also, turn on the obfuscation as we close in.
>>
>>19435333

Thanks for the summary, mate! A lot of these things might be easier tomorrow, when you're going into the school with a formal reason.
>>
>>19435256
> Laura answers. 'Yes! It's fine. No problems now! :D Lynn asks if you're going tomorrow!'

Tell her that we'll try to make it.
>>
>>19435336
Walk to tamsin's, stop for what's on the way or close by.

Can you give us the summary of our psychic skills ?
>>
Skills:

> Self Control: SC 6, 4 more points to SC 7.
> Sense Proprioception: SP 2, 2 more points to SP 3.
> Pinpoint Presence: PP 2, 1 more point to PP 3
> Obfuscation: Obf 5, 3 more points to Obf 6.
> Influence Sound and Sight: ISS 1, 2 more points to ISS 2.
> Implant Mental Image: IMI 2, 3 more points to IMI 3.
> Anaesthesia: Ane 1, 1 more point to Ane 2.
> Enhance Dexterity: ED 2, 2 more points to ED 3

(Choice here: we can either have another skill called Facedance, which allows you to impersonate people, or you can put that under obfuscation. Your choice.)
>>
>>19435411
I think it fits better as its own skill. Maybe we'll merge them, and some others, when we become more powerful and can take a more unified control over things. Like physics/chemistry theories unifying as we know more about them.
>>
>>19435377
>>19435325

Dressing up, you head out and take a bus up the East Street before stopping near the Wrexhall Market. The place must be really busy in the day, but now it's shuttered and closed - and a little bit eerie, actually.

There are thin crowds still going up and down, passing through and into the few restaurants here. But you're on the tail end of Saffernsway. Your mind scans the place, and you can't... really feel any psychs. You can feel some interesting things that may simply be people in a weird state, or something else...

...hmm. You're not very sure. But you do turn on your obfuscate just to be sure, and when you move up to Tam's, you can sense her inside, lying in bed, using her computer. No one else other than the residents. Oh, and a catankerous-feeling roommate - who's just spotted you in the window. She fixes you with a stare.

Seriously, man, chill...

> What do?
>>
>>19435411
And I'd think that it is more akin to ISS than Obf.
>>
>>19435411
I think that should just go under obfuscation. Essentially we're blurring our identity and letting the other person's mind fill in the details.
>>
>>19435485

Going with this, kinda.
>>

>>19435476

Well we did the check up on her. Shouldn't we rest or something though? I mean we can't really tell how hurt we are because of the Psychic Anesthesia but we have to still be pretty fucked up.
>>
>>19435411
> tons of obfuscation

Heh. I like this, it fits with a hobo character.
>>
>>19435511

Oh, so you're going to leave Tam's place? Didn't you come here to see Tamsin?

Also, the girl is possibly staring at you because you are standing in front of her door. But she does have a certain knot of aggressiveness in her mind.

As for the strange minds, you... feel there's something similar to the rugby players from yesterday. So maybe... Creations? Familiars? But you can't even tell how many there are - it just seems to be a very diffuse sense of control and unease.

>>
>>19435588
Damn someone re roll I guess
>>
>>19435580
Or rather, the strange minds are. Don't know about her.

If memory serves, the last thing those rugby players remembered was something like "So, we going to Patrick's or Lenny's?"

Which means that something happened to them at one of those places. I wonder if we can pick up something similar in some of the other people around Tam. It might help us retrace the steps and figure out what's going on.
>>
rolled 42 = 42

>>19435566
Walk around, try to locate a source of the effect by measuring the intensity of it on the people.
>>
rolled 31 = 31

>>19435588
Whatever re rolling and this is for the strange minds
>>
>>19435572

Facedance allows you to impersonate a person to another person or several people. Basically, once you've seen someone, you can attempt to impersonate him/her. Works much better for someone more like you, of course.

>>19435570

You move away from the window while probing her mind, but she seems unusually resistant. In fact her mind pushes yours out quite strongly.

She's probably really angry at something. You can sense her going upstairs, knocking on Tam's door. Tamsin and her start talking about something... something about the coursework and who needs to do what. Doesn't sound particularly friendly.

Tamsin's mind doesn't feel too different from what you've seen of her, though. You back off farther down the street, then suddenly you sense a familiar presence behind you and turn around. It's Patrick, walking up the street.

With your obfuscation on, he doesn't really notice you at all and walks past. He's clearly headed for Tam's...

> What do?
>>
>>19435616
Sounds good
>>
>>19435638
Can we tap into senses of someone to eaves drop on them from a distance?

Alternatively, we could obfuscate our way in and do it personally.
>>
rolled 61 = 61

>>19435638
Wait outside, out of sight of the windows, listen to what they say.
>>
rolled 85 = 85

>>19435667
We can. Entering is risky, though, if our obfuscation fails.
>>
>>19435667
Given how much better we are at obfuscation, that might actually be a better bet.
>>
Should we check if Patrick is a psychic at all or something (Btw for Dark Spirit Quest there are bound to be other Dark Lords that pop up while the MC was gone. You could have them fight each other for the same servants or whatnot. Just one idea even if it's not that great. Basically make a Rival down the line.)
>>
>>19435682
Obfuscation is easy on the street, when they expect to see strangers and don't pay attention. It would be more difficult in a private setting.
>>
>>19435667

You probably could, but you've never tried it before. It's another of those skills...

>>19435645
>>19435616

You do consider doing that, but considering how you felt the emanation once you walked into this street, you'd be walking up and down quite a distance. Which doesn't help with keeping a lookout on Tamsin.

Anything else that doesn't help with keeping a lookout on Tam?

>>19435670

You hear Pat go upstairs and talk to the housemate for a few moments. Next thing you know, the door closes, and Tamsin jumps from bed and hugs Pat. She feels... scrambled. Or maybe it's someone else running interference.

Well, you don't need to be a psych to see Tamsin and Pat going out of the door together. 'So what do you want for tonight?'

'Hmm. Chinese?'

'I know this place...'

They walk past you with your obfuscation again. Despite yourself, you do feel a certain amount of bitterness. That's not a bad thing, perhaps - better than inhuman apathy...

> What do/say?
>>
>>19435708
I mean, it's not invisibility.
And there's also the risk of one of them bumping into us, or of patrick spending the night here and not opening the door again for us to get out.
>>
rolled 25, 8 = 33

>>19435724
There's not much to do with them. Let them go eat. Check patrick again, he still seems to be the ideal suspect.

If nothing comes up, try >>19435616.
>>
>>19435759
Ugh. Looks like a big waste of time.

After that, I guess we should go eat something.
>>
Oh, that reminds me, we should buy condoms.
>>
>>19435759
Check Patrick if he Psychic or what?
>>
>>19435794
Yes, that, or for anything interesting we can find in his head.
Does he really intend to pressure tam into having sex ? I mean, okay, we did that ourself, but we're a PC and a gentleman so it's okay.
>>
>>19435759

You check Patrick. There's definitely... something strange about him, about how his mind is when near Tamsin. Maybe that's simply being in love, but being in love doesn't make you girlfriend's mind completely opaque, does it?

Also, if Tamsin liked him so much, why was she so annoyed at him last night?

As they walk away and you walk off in the other direction, you feel a distinct lessening of the strange emanations, before suddenly it comes back again, strongly. You turn to see, across the road, two or three teenagers pointing at something on the ground. Doesn't take you long to realise it's a hobo, curled up and sleeping.

There is mischief in the youngsters' minds. Damnit. You thought you'd sensed a Creation, and it turns out to be mischievous thoughts? And yet Patrick walking away did lead to a lessening...

Tsk.

> What do? Patrick and Tamsin, or the kids and the hobo?
> Or something else?
>>

Oh man I Rolled a 80 but it was right after the post. Fuck my luck
>>
>>19435825
>>19435839

As they walked by you did scan them, but their thoughts were opaque. And you know it's not because you were lousy at looking; they were being shielded. Possibly deliberately.

Also, by looking, you realised that the opaqueness of Tamsin's mind wasn't coming from her but from Patrick. There's definitely something odd going on here.

... maybe someone's shielding them, after you had interfered...?
>>
>>19435835
Hobo solidarity first. Tam will come back.

Huh. Is there such a thing as hobo solidarity ?
>>
rolled 85 = 85

>>19435835
What do they intend to do ?
Is the hobo old and disgusting ?
>>
Let's go to the hobo first. Scatter the kids. Ask if he/she's okay.

Then... maybe go around looking for more opaque minds? What kind of street is this, residential?
>>
>>19435857
>>19435893
>>19435896

A chill comes to your mind as you turn and scan them. There is a little of that opacity as well, but you pierce that easily and see - oh god. Oh god. They're going to set him on fire.

Or at least that's what they're planning. Driven by the fear - the suddenly image of flames licking at your hand, being pressed near it - you point at them and yell. 'OI!'

They turn around, see you, and you sense their first instinct is to run. In fact, two of them do run, two or three steps. Then the one who stands his ground tells them to come back.

'Oi what, dude?'

> What do/say?
>>
>>19435932

You do a quick physical appraisal. None of them have weapons on hand right now.

... one of them, however, is thinking about the knife in his back pocket. Behind them, you see the hobo just turning around and getting up.

Well here's for you, old bearded chap! Damnit.

> 60+3 vs. 59: close success!

There's nothing for it - you facedance, puffing up your figure a little as you bear down on them. 'What's that? Why were you running away?'

The opacity is cracking from their minds as they walk up, one step, another, to meet you. But then suddenly they stop, and you feel a ripple burn through your senses as something lashes out at you. It's not from the boys, but you stagger back.

'Quick! Leg it! Leg it!'

Meanwhile, you almost lose your balance. It's as if someone just took a baseball bat to your funny bone, which is something you've experienced before. You stumble a few steps after them, but they've run off. Damn. Where'd that come from?

As you clear up, though, you can recognise what's happening, a little. Someone is obfuscating people around here, and while you were tapped into that same source the withdrawal hit you too. You turn around and see the hobo stand up.

'You're... you're one of those aren't ya, ye bastard?'

Anger flashes from his mind, addled with alcohol and some amount of drugs. Shit.

> What do? You realise that it may have been a plot to get you to show yourself. If so, you've fallen for it!
>>
>>19436022

I'll save that roll. Sorry, didn't see it while I was typing. But no good roll goes unpuni- unrewarded.

>>
>>19436072

Huh. If he's the one behind this, that would explain why Patrick is odd, yet apparently isn't a psych himself. Maybe. I don't know.

But along those lines, maybe it is a third party mucking around.
>>
>>19436072
Hm... Another psychic hobo?
"What those? I'm just my own bastard here. Whose bastard are YOU?"

>>
>>19436142
>>19436158
>>19436135

You are very sure he isn't the Psych here. But there could well be a Psych here. Or familiars.

Oh shit, familiars - doesn't that mean you're dealing with the Bestowed Psychs now? But why are they even here? You do recall Dawn saying that Saffernsway was quite clear of them...

Focusing your mind, you stand straight and ask. 'Well. Whose bastard are you?'

In that same moment you throw your weight behind a thrust at his mind, and hear the sound of it cracking. And then, with a yell, he rushes you. You've instilled fear quite well before, but anger, well...

'You CUNT!' He is shockingly fast for someone drunk and high at the same time, though thankfully unarmed.

You still have an eye in his mind now, but you'll have to deal with the rest of him hurtling at you first.
>>
>>19436213
Well damn. Uh, we're not actually terribly good in a fight. Hiding and running are our preferred choices.

Can we try something with obfuscate to cloak ourselves, and then whack him upside the head?

If memory serves, an unconscious mind is much less resistant.

He is fast! But he is drunk, high, and at least twice your age, and you are a Psych. You are thus much faster as you dodge his fist, sidestep, and grab his arm so you swing him around and he loses his footing.

He swings at you once more, then crashes heavily on the ground. As you move in mentally, you manage to see some clear images! Patrick talking to Lenny, who looks a bit like him actually. Then Patrick talking to another man, an older man with combed-back blonde hair in a business suit.

Then Lenny pointing out Tamsin to Pat. Pat coming to the hobo and kicking him, before Lenny comes by and offers some help. And then-

Your mind-seeing is interrupted suddenly when burning pain floods into your vision, awakening the nerves of your injured hand. Ah, FUCK! You quickly withdraw and anaesthetise yourself, but then see the hobo screaming.

'GOD IT BURNS! AHHHH! IT BURNS!'

Oh shit. You sense someone opening the door, turn and see that several units to your right there's someone coming out to see what's gone on. It won't be long before you draw a crowd...

Lenny is one of Patrick's friends. Those rugby players mentioned him, the last thing they remembered was debating whether to go to his place or Patrick's. We thought it was Patrick at the time, but from the looks of it it's Lenny who is running the show by way of loads and loads of familiars and enthralled norms.
>>
> 96 + 15: success! Man, you're quite the shadow.
> You gain 2 points in Obfuscation! 1 point to Obf 6.

You decide it's probably best to get the hell out of dodge. Turning around, ignoring the wails of pain from the writhing hobo, you walk past people coming out into the street to see. Tam's housemate is among them.

This area is quite a posh place, so people are quite frightened by all the screaming. 'Is he stabbed? Did someone stab him?'

'Anyone saw the guy who was there just now?'

'Was there a guy just now? I didn't see anyone...'

Come think of it, the people here make boring sustenance. Just noting. Drawing heavily on their thoughts, you also manage to catch a glimpse of Patrick, and Lenny, and the business suit man. People have seen them before, but without much impression if any.

Soon you are back out at the main road, and you head for the bus stop. It's about 8 now, and the streets have gone back quiet now. The hulk of Wrexhall Market looks even more ominous in the night.

And it's going to rain.

> What do? Where go now? You might have stumbled on something nasty, actually.

You only know about Lenny's presence from other people's thoughts, but he knows Patrick and Tamsin, at the very least. He's the one who pointed Tamsin out to Patrick.

You're not sure what the exact link between those guys is, though.

Hopping on the first bus that goes up the road, you get your phone and call Lena. 'Yeah?'

'Hey. Um... do you know any bestowed Psych called... like, Lenny?'

'Lenny...?' Then the voice turns more serious. Oh shit. 'Dylan. Where are you?'

'I just...'

'I do know Leonard le Quesne,' she says. 'Why do you ask? Where is he? Actually, you know what... I'm not in on this case. I'll refer you to Chloe...'

You call Chloe, and she asks you the same questions. 'Lenny? Why... wait, you're in Saffernsway aren't you? Why do you ask?... how did you get to know him?'

You tell Chloe about Tamsin, and Patrick, and then Lenny. And how Lena knows about Tamsin, and suspects she is under thrall from something. You thought it was Patrick, but it turns out to be this Lenny person.

'Wait. So you haven't seen him before?'

'Um... no, no... but I've sensed his presence around here a lot.'

'In Saffernsway?' the voice is slightly raised. 'Right. Okay. Dylan. I need you to be careful here. Something's a bit strange with this but we'll investigate. It sounds like... they're pushing past some boundaries. But never mind. You just be careful.'

'What about Tamsin?' you blurt out.

There's a long pause. 'I think... well, it's all right. We'll investigate her too.'

With that Chloe hangs up. She sounds quite worried. This Leonard must be an interesting person, as is the blonde suit...

You find this small cafe from which the smell of shishas is quite strong. Wading through the wafting smoke to the fridge, you grab two sandwiches while enjoying the emanations from the people around you.

Many of the people here are college students, focusing on board games or books. The sense of knowledge is calming. The price of the sandwiches, not so much. But heck, it's coronation chicken...

Hyo and the other girl seem to be relaxed, but thinking - they're playing chess right now. You don't see many thoughts about Tamsin currently, though you do get enough to confirm that Hyo is on good terms with Tamsin. In fact, she's quite glad Tam got out for a pub outing last night.

Man, the poor girl is being kept at home it seems...

Also, you know that assignments and graded essays are all due in some weeks, but they're second years and such things don't bother them overly.

Also, no opacity in the two of them, which is nice. You walk up and wave. 'Hey. Sorry, I hope I'm not...'

'Eh... oh yes! Dylan!' Hyo grins and gives you an unexpected hug. You feel a spike of thoughts in your mind, tinged pleasantly with concentration. 'How're you doing? You look a little... knackered.'

That explains the odd language she was thinking in. 'Hey, I'm Dylan.'

'Nice to meet you. I'm from Germany,' she says, smiling. Well, that's nice.

You make a little more small talk, and then leave to allow them to finish their game. Back home, you eat one sandwich, get ready to eat the other one, and then wake up to see it's 1 in the morning. Dear god you're tired.

The rest of your sleep is done in bed, which is as it should be. By the time you get up, it's already 8 in the morning. You feel rather refreshed, and your phone has some messages.

Chloe: 'Keep alert for any more familiars, if you can detect them. Lenny is a Bestowed Psych whose father has been interested in Saffernsway for a while. They may be trying to move in on this turf.'

Laura: 'Meet at 11 at the Mayne Parish gate! I'll bring you in. The whole art club's already here, painting the murals!'

Tamsin: 'Hey, sorry, was ill last night. Let's do another day xx'

Huh. You munch on your other sandwich. Coronation chicken in the morning is nice.

Breakfast and everything done, you head out and see the Spanish cleaning lady. 'Ah, hi,' she says to you, haltingly.

When you get to Mayne Parish, it is a cauldron of activity. People are running on the track, playing netball and football, under a sky that threatens to rain ever more convincingly. Laura is waiting at the gate, and Tina's beside her.

Following them, you head into a huge theatre - you mean huge, for a school - which has pretty much been turned into a big workshop. A quick mental count shows there must be at least 30 people here... and another 30 downstairs.

'Lynn's probably downstairs in the prop shop,' Laura says. 'Do you want to look around, or go see her first?'

You just blink initially, taking in the amount of mental energy going on here now. This is... this is quite incredible. There are a few people shining like Lynn does, really.

What skill is linked to mind scanning/probing? We don't seem to have one, even though we do that all the time.

The balloon idea was good for training. Another idea might be to wander through an area full of restaurants, mind scanning to find people who are planning to eat alone. Then we mentally nudge them into getting tables for two, randomly walk up and sit down with them while mentally nudging them into thinking that there's no reason they wouldn't be eating with Dylan because he's a cool guy, and then we walk off while leaving them not noticing that anything unusual happened. If they seemed cool after talking to them, we keep their number and add them to our potential contacts.

I'm not sure what skills that would build, exactly, but I want them.

>Breakfast and everything done, you head out and see the Spanish cleaning lady. 'Ah, hi,' she says to you, haltingly.

It would be nice if we could pull Spanish phrases from her mind, but unless she also speaks English it's not like she could translate them so that's wildly impractical. Greet her back and sort of mentally back it up with a "friendliness and cheer" emotional flag, without using a specific language for it. See if we can use a sort of psychic-assisted gesture method combined with intention reading to communicate effectively; a decent test case would be asking her how she's doing or if she's been having any problems with the apartment.
>>
Also reply to Tamsin, ask what day would work for her
>>
>>19437444
Hey, we could train to use other people's brain to translate things we think as we say them, allowing us to speak in their language.

You go around the place, looking. It appears that the 'renaissance' thing they're talking about is a pretty grand sort of affair. Upstairs, the work is mostly painting and costumes, and you wander around looking as girls prepare the racks of costumes for dancers, caterers and the lot. Another two or three girls are repairing costumes.

Painting... you see paintings of various different animals, snakes, tigers, rats... there's someone sitting cross-legged in front of a painting of a bull, her brush slowly teasing shadows out of its shoulders and head. Her mind is intensely focused, and you find that out to your detriment as you poke it a little and it grinds to a halt with a screech in your ears.

She turns around. 'Yeah?'

'The one downstairs? Yeah well, there's going to be a tiger and a bull.' She sighs. 'The tiger painting's not done yet, though. I'll retouch this first.'

Meanwhile you play a bit more with the balloon, successfully having it drift around. You're distracting the people, mate - they're clambering over the seats trying to catch it.

'Where the hell did this come from!'

'I don't know. Marie?'

'Was it the guys?'

'Wasn't us! It's you girls!'

'What's going on?' You recognise that voice, and also that mental glow. Lynn emerges from backstage in shorts, sleeves rolled up, limbs all stained with paint and sawdust. Is that some kind of psychic phenomenon that we recognize? Or something that maybe we should ask a more experienced psychic about later?

Anyway, let's see if we can leech just a tiny little bit of talent off the other people here while we work. There's a LOT of very bright-burning people in the area, so we need to be very very careful to keep things from going out of control, but it's so very tempting to at least taste it...

What she does have you do is move several large frames, with stretched-out cloths, to stand them up against the back of the stage so you could get on them with pencils and dark carbon sticks. As you work, you can't help but probe the minds of the people around you, feeding off their concentration with joy. You have to admit... it is pretty pleasurable. Clemence herself is a delightful mind; the animals are moving in her thoughts and she is attempting to capture the movement as well...

'Putain,' she mutters. You turn to see a charcoal mark extending way too far. 'Merde! How did I do that?'

Whups. After a bit of effort it is erased, and you keep your prefrontal cortex to yourself, greedy boy.

> What do/say? I'm off to bed, but do write! I'll check it in the morning and give replies.
> Also, you've gleaned enough to know that Clemence and Lynn are pretty good friends and rivals, and that she's in the same class as Laura. (Lynn isn't.)

Odds are they are just tired/bored

Help her with her art, don't feed off of her thoughts but keep an eye on them so our work matches her vision of it. Light flirting at most, focus on making pretty pictures.

Don't say anything, keep drawing until it's good. Keep it simple.

Do a little bit of scanning around once again to search for signs of impending Creation.

Anyone wants to archive this? I'm not up to it tonight

Hey there we go. To bad today it doesn't count for anything but maybe it can count for the next thread for art skill. So anyone up for archiving this thread?

Never mind I went and did it anyways

You're not sure what exactly are the signs of impending Creation - Kev's told you before, yes, but you've never *seen* it. Nonetheless you're guessing that stress is one such thing, and dear heavens there is plenty of stress around.

It doesn't take much probing to find the many, many undercurrents of stress and frustration here. You sense that quite a bit of it is due to the constant no shows by one of the three schools meant to be running the fair, and that another large portion seems to just be grumbling at working while in a holiday mood. Summer is almost upon them.

But there is something else; thoughts of Lynn, and not in a positive way. You gather, while sketching, that Lynn has placed herself in a leadership position, and that she is driving everyone quite hard with her ambitious plans. Of course, she's driving herself just as hard, if not more; but it's not easy for people to empathise with that...

Hmm. Meanwhile, you make a little small talk with Clemence. She's from the south of France, which she swears is the prettiest place in the world. Well, if you say so... meanwhile she looks at your side of the tiger canvas.

'The grass, you're doing that very nicely,' she says. Her own tiger has a curved, tense tail, and you can almost imagine muscles rippling under the hindquarters, as she's doing.

'Thanks. Your tiger's amazing.'

'Ça va,' she mutters.

Well obviously keep on working on the piece of art, keep trying to match her vision properly and don't eat her thoughts it'll disrupt the work and we're probably getting so much ambient creativity that we don't need to feed more.

So Clemence, what exactly is the relationship between you and Lynn? She seems like quite the task master. Must be stressful to put the festival together with one of the schools not showing up.
