Let me begin with an apology. I set out to release Adeptus Evangelion 2.5, in its final and complete form, within the month of May, 2012. In that, I have failed. The deadline came and went, and at the time I was forced to make a choice: hold to the schedule, or release a superior product after the deadline. I could give you a long list of reasons for the delay, but what's done is done.

So to anyone out there who has been holding their breath this past weak, I am deeply sorry.

Hopefully, you will find that this was worth the wait.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ue47q05u115e97i

AdEva 2.5 is now yours for the taking. And with it, I say goodbye to Dark Heresy as a system base. In the future, AdEva shall rely on its own system.

I can only hope that 2.5 serves as fitting farewell. Enjoy it, /tg/. And thank you for your support and aide during the Beta.
>>
what are the major changes you and the team have made from v2 to v2.5?
>>

The biggest shift is the way AT deflection is handled, the increase in Angel strength, and significant rework of 4 of the 5 careers.

The mediafire link above contains the required Record Sheets (Character, Evangelion and City) as well as two books:

The Operations Manual is the Players guide, and holds the majority of the rules needed for play.

The book titled "Cruel Thesis" is effectively a GM's guide, holding not only the descriptions of the Angels, but advice on crafting a campaign to your own specifications and mythos as well as updated material taken from the [REDACTED] supplement. It also has a Glossary of Terms in the back, which can be useful if all the acronyms start to make your head spin.

For the AT Deflection rules, it's definitely streamlining. One of the design goals was to reduce the rolls made in a fight.

>>
>>19401385

I would say:

> Change the way Deflection works
> Removed splits in career paths and instead included multiple choice talents to create customization and replayability.
> Buffed Angels
> Streamlined various mechanics
> More support for, and advice on, Operations Directors
> The game is now better designed to be molded to your setting, such as the Angel Hybrid now being buildable from the ground up to have a powerset that reflects the unique properties of the Angels in your game.
> Conventional Forces can no longer killsteal, and exist primarily as a tactical tool rather than a hammer

I am probably missing something, but that covers a lot of the overall points
>>
Thank you my good sir. As always real life takes priority. When I heard IRL troubles had befallen you I was afraid the full release wouldn't be available until July.

Very little, the changes from v2.5 beta to release are minor, for the most part. You probably won't have to rebuild any characters. Numbers have been tweaked, abilities altered slightly, but nothing major.

There's no easy way to adapt v2 to 2.5, though.
>>

If you are switching over from the Beta? I don't foresee any issues. We didn't change much structure, just details. So the careers are the same as when you last looked, but the description of some talents will have changed.

Farewell, Sven the Missile Guy, your ability to shoot the red thing will be sorely missed.
>>
>>19401601

Based ont he new Deflection rules, Conventional Forces can not, no exceptions, deal damage to an Angel that has not been 100% Neutralized down to 0. Players can still damage Angels at low Deflection using an innate ability to punch through weak AT Fields called 'Breach'. So Players will rarely expend the extra effort to Neut an Angel down to zero.

Because of this, unless your players go out of their way to make it happen the CFs will not get the chance to deal any damage to the Angel. However, each form of Conventional Forces has its own special abilities it can use, if they have enough tanks or VTOLs of the right kind in the right place to pull it off.

For Example, Tanks can use the 'Underfoot' ability to sacrifice themselves to stop an Angel from moving for a few turns. VTOLs can fly around your Evas dropping chaff and flashbombs, giving the Angel a penalty to BS when targetting that Eva. Other VTOLs can fire off Markerlights, or let you roll on the Magi chart as if you were in the Base of Operations even when out in the middle of nowhere.

Stuff like that.

>>
>>19401735
Seen the show, and yeah, flat out, there was no reason to have anything more than enough soldiers to kill any berserking pilot that tried to get to his EVA to cause havoc, until the 'end of' when they do a coup.

That always kinda grated me: There was no reason whatsoever to have all those conventional forces arrayed there, because everyone knew it was completely worthless.

Balloons shaped like things the angel might want to attack would've been cheaper and possibly more effective.
>>
>>19401717

It is a major step down, I will admit. But the alternative was sort of setting breaking. CFs being that effective against Angels in the first place was a bug, not a feature.

And it should be said that, if the players DO neutralize the Angel down to 0? The OD can have his CFs land a lot of hits. CFs don't even have to aim their attacks anymore. Angels are so big that they just HIT and the Angel can deal with it.

>Balloons shaped like things the angel might want to attack would've been cheaper and possibly more effective.

They actually did that against Ramiel. In this game, they'd probably be nothing but scenery, but we wanted to give the OD something to do when not buffing pilots.
>>
>>19401773

Don't make promises for me! I have a lot of the foundation for V3 laid already, it is true. But I already plan on ripping some of that out and replacing it completely.

Like a new character creation system with 9 Backgrounds, or a simplified AT Field Strength system that allows us to cut out that messy ATS/ATP system.

But he is right in that it is semi-playable already. A few months ago, I ran a playtest to see how a totally HPless damage system worked. Pretty happy with it.
>>
How different is the new system going to be? We talking a completely new system or an evolution from Dark Heresy?
>>
>>19401775

Always imagined it was a secret war sort of thing. NERV winning hearts and minds. It's hard to trust an agency that leaves a city completely undefended and every time people ask it what you will do if an angel comes is you just tap your nose all coy. It's a display of effort.

If you prefer an alternative theory - NERV doesn't put all its eggs into one basket. It wants to deploy and field test conventional solutions and isn't squeamish about throwing weapons at the enemy and seeing what works. Those poor bastards are gathering data as they die.

On a smaller scale it's pretty clear Gendo wanted the world to see conventional forces massacred to show his project was the only viable one.
>>
>>19401837
New system is going to be its own system entirely. Nothing solid beyond that can be promised, though.
>>
>>19401775
>>19401806
The "reason" was because SEELE and NERV had no idea how effective their weapons would be, not really. When you have a choice between "world fucking ends" and "we expend a battalion of tanks for no discernable gain," you take the latter.

Coventional arms ARE effective occasionally in the show, usually just N2 weapons or the absolutely absurd positron rifle. It's not common, but it happens.

>Balloons shaped like things the angel might want to attack would've been cheaper and possibly more effective.

Most of the angels don't attack unless they're attacked first or directly impeded. The one that got Rei was just lonely. The one that got Asuka was probably trying to communicate. The one in the mantle was a mere infant. Sachiel seemed to be surprised to be attacked (I forget whether this happened in Rebuild, the series, or both). Zeruel was an exception, it seemed to go out of its way to wreck NERV's shit and try to slowly kill 01 instead of just wrecking it in a single hit.

In the series, we see Angels take waves of missiles all the time with no effect. The one time normal weapons hurt an Angel is when they sunk that battleship to shoot Gaghiel in the face... while Unit 02 was neutralizing it.

It really isn't that much of a stretch to just say that CFs cant do it on their own. They have never once dealt meaningful damage without Eva assistance. The only exception are N2 mines (which worked all of twice, and still never scored a kill) and the positron cannon (which is nowhere near conventional).

>I don't even play this game, and that's bullshit right there.

From a game design point of view, it's necessary.

Otherwise, you don't -need- Evas, and the protagonists aren't the only hope for earth. If there's any reason to NOT send a war machine out under the control of a pubescent child, why would you want to risk it?
>>
>>19402067
Perhaps Sachiel would have been killed by N2 Mines if the JSDF Generals had dropped more than one. More powerful, actual nuclear weapons might also have been useful against the Angels, but they would have caused even more collateral damage.
>>
>>19402088
It's still stupid. You'd still need kids who can manip AT Fields in EVAs to bring down the enemy's Deflec levels to a reasonable amount to let Conventionals have a chance to hit; saying that even 1% defelection makes it invulnerable to conventionals is just stupid.
>>
so I assume if an eva is neutralizing an angel's AT field then CFs would be able to do atleast some damage?
>>
>>19402088
>Otherwise, you don't -need- Evas, and the protagonists aren't the only hope for earth.

Conventional forces/weapons being able to damage Angels is not the same as conventional forces/weapons being able to reliably kill Angels before they kill mankind. Besides, a positron rifle doesn't actually need an EVA to be wielded, though without an AT Field to protect it, it's just as vulnerable as any other conventional weapon.
>>
>>19402106

maybe. But Adeva says that N2 mines are Antimatter. The only better bomb than Antimatter is 'More Anitmatter'. And considering how quickly Sachiel recovered, the yeild needed to take it down for good may very well have cracked the Earth's crust and/or set the atmosphere on fire.

One must be VERY careful when dealing with Antimatter. If you are not careful, you are going to make Second Impact look like a cakewalk.
>>
>>19402121
Deflection doesn't work on a percentage basis anymore. It's an all-or-nothing deal. Either your breach capabilities are greater than their deflection and you deal damage, or you ping uselessly.

There are, of course, ways of both augmenting your Breach and decreasing their Deflection rating.
>>
Practically speaking, higher-order Angels are unassailable by anything that can't generate an AT field.
>>
>Besides, a positron rifle doesn't actually need an EVA to be wielded,

I'd like to note that we saw the rifle get used against two angels from outside of any conceivable neutralization range, and when they didn't have the power of an entire megatropolis, it did nothing. (Rei fired it at Arael. Admittedly, the extreme distance may have had something to do with it, but it means that positrons alone aren't good enough.)
>>
Okay, what I said before might have painted a misleading picture.

Its not that THE PLOT says that only Evas can hurt Angels. It is that you need Breach to punch through an AT Field, and Conventional Forces have 0 breach. If you build nifty Maser Tanks that had +2 Breach, you could handle AT Fields of a strength slightly stronger than 0 (2, to be exact). Its just that increasing the Breach of your CFs is not something available by default.
>>
>>19402052
>For one, an armoured division doesn't have an intense hatred of its own mother.
you say that, but a good number of treadheads I've worked with hate their mothers.

however;
>they have actual military training and combat experience
and
>they wouldn't look good in skintight suits

so they can never defeat an angel
>>
>>19402106
The thematic problem is that Tsar Bomba and the like are _phallic_ instruments. This is the same root cause for why conventional forces can't penetrate AT fields. AT fields are, themselves, weaponised phalluses. Now while we've all seen the /d/ content of phalluses penetrating phalluses, psychologically it doesn't work that way. Angels are Adam's children, they are a line of men of a line of men (cf: Genesis and Chronicles).

No, to defeat the phallus you have to climb inside a giant version of your mother and repeatedly smash its ball shaped "core" until it is reduced to mush. Eva are the defective rib of Adam, but this defect (and as Lilim piloting them), means the feminisation of technology.

I refer you to Rei's ultimate attack as a Lilim, on Armisael: encompassing the Angel within herself and crushing it. If this isn't vagina dentata then I don't know what is.

Also, I refer you to Tabris topping Shinji, and thus developing an affection for Lilim.
>>
>>19402067
Nope
positron rifles
n2 mines
sachiel feeling the knockback of a missile barrage

also, the types of angel differ. Some where defeated without the EVA's.

Some where so weak they died to pallet gun fire, matarael

But I wouldn't really expect mobile forces take down an EVA alone, unless it's exceptionally weak.

>>19402088
I understand yours and the previous posters point about game design though.

> If there's any reason to NOT send a war machine out under the control of a pubescent child

>>19402138
You can deliver the blows in doses. You don't have to shove all the antimatter up it's ass at once. Keep whittling it down.

But the reason they didn't, was like you point out that they wanted to avoid collateral damage.
>>
>>19402170

Positron Weapons have a naturally high Breach (equal to their Penetration). So some manner of Positron Turret wouldn't be totally useless, but it would still need to have enough Breach to punch through the AT Field on its own if it wanted to get by without help from an Eva. Which can be done, but only with higher-end positron weapons. And you are going to be a sitting target if the Angel has even the most basic of ranged attacks.
>>
>>19402191

>>
>>19402138
>The only better bomb than Antimatter is 'More Anitmatter'

It's a straight question of yield, not type of explosive.

The fact remains that Sachiel could conceivably have been destroyed by multiple N2 strikes or a hydrogen bomb of greater yield. Obviously, the collateral damage resulting from this would be part of the issue.

Actually there's a simple answer: Unacceptable Losses.
If the conventional forces CAN down something through its AT-Field but the losses are staggering, then you've every reason to turn fucked up kids into not-quite-suicide troops. Preferably BEFORE you run out of mature, reason-capable people that aren't mind-linked to a semi-predictable giant monster.

Say, a tank column can combine fire to 'breach 1~2' and slowly chip at it. But every single one of those is a 'threat' to the angel that thus goes about wiping them out en-masse after they do this.

You'd still want to churn out EVAs

Unlike the Positron cannon, N2 mines are not constrained or directional. If we establish an AT-breach and core destruction damage requirement as the result of half a degree of arc of an N2 blast then we need to observe the atmospheric, geological and structural results. They are unlikely to be pretty.

The other factor is of course that a significant number of the Angels are responsive to fast moving incoming rounds.

In comparison the positron cannon expends all of its energy within its beam, has little secondary effects, etc. We all know the reasons why giant positron beams weren't set up: they'd be static without protective AT-fields, highly reliant on disrupting the world economy, and indicate to most of mankind that NERVs purpose isn't the preservation of humanity.

Of course, an economy is an oikos is a household is a hearth, and hearths are yonic up the wazoo, or the hoohah as more appropriate.

I notice that nobody has a comeback for the Tabris effectively being defeated by Shinji's man-vagina in P scale.

I notice the other element of the Freudian analysis isn't being challenged: that Gendo would have to have travelled the world and fucked (and fucked-up) every candidate pilot's mother in a short period of time. Or that Yui basically Gendowned Gendo.
>>
>>19402317

Conventional forces distract from the traumatised psychological circus that is EVA. If you are going to use them, then you need to introduce them into the game's psycho-sexual terrain. Kagi (S2 / JSDF Intel) is probably the best way in.

I'd suggest that for each major conventional assist you up the scale and increase the earliness of an E scale JSDF attack on Dogma; and if any conventional assist is responsible for an Angel kill, JDSF takes on a desire to force a third impact.

An interesting scenario could have an "awakened" JSDF attempt to assist an angel to penetrate dogma / disable the EVA for them so that they can control third impact.

The quote from Lock Stock and Two smoking barrels seems appropriate, "Harry didn't think that he did a very good job, so he grabbed the nearest thing to hand, which just so happened to be a 15 inch black rubber cock, and proceeded to beat poor old Smithy to death with." Or the weapon, the bull pizzle.

It is no surprise that the Lance of Longinus is being used to hold Lillith down, or that Gendo is quite pleased that the Lance is on the moon. It didn't fly off into "the void" but hit the only egg object nearby.

Further, notice how Lillith/Adam in the form of Rei is entranced by being surrounded by nine lances of longinus.

If you want to understand how Lillith/Adam can fuck herself in the head with her own dick, then I suggest Zeus and Athene/Minerva's story.

Athene, by the way, was the son meant to replace Zeus. Hera had stolen Zeus's cum and knocked herself up. But Zeus found out, and tore the child out of Hera, swallowing her. Athene was born from Zeus's violent cunt forehead after a hell of a headache.

Regardless of authorial intention, the connection between Western Myths and Freudian Imagery is sufficiently deep to make 3rd impact hella amusing, and almost erotic RPable.

What is the significance of the missile barrage, which is seen so often during the series and plays a part in the battle with Asuka in EoE?

What is the meaning of the aerial deployment method of the EVA units, utilizing the form-fitting docks aboard large bombers?
>>

Well, Asuka and Asuka's mother never had any luck with the Ikari men, did they? Apart from the natural body horror of a boom headshot, the advantage of Asuka being taken down head-first is two fold:
*It is the seat of human knowledge and personality, and out of the three pilots Asuka best exemplified humanity's potential pride in itself. Enjoy being no match for God or creations of God you proud Israelite needing to be humbled before THE LORD.
*Secondly, and obviously, Asuka, and her mother's, sexual relationships were not fruitful, and what's less fructive than a cock in the mouth. I've never seen someone ovulate into her tonsils. (Isn't this fucking obvious?)

Where did you learn your Greek Myths?

Athena was the daughter of the Titan Metis, Zeus' first wife, whom he had swallowed (Shapeshifting contest, she turned into a fly, all according to keikaku, keikaku means plan) after it was prophecized she would give birth to a son who would kill him.

Zeus was then hit by crippling migraines as Metis made Athena some armor inside Zeus' head, and when it was time for her to be born he ripped his head open and let her out.

Sometimes Poseidon claims he was the daddy.

I'd suggest you look at the Titanomachia for why Metis is obviously Hera. Only legitimate children destroy their fathers in the greek myth. I don't have Graves with me (and yes I know the problems with Graves' mythopoetic interpretations, but he brings the primary sources together).

Answer me this: why doesn't Zeus fuck Hera?

Given that a major RP element of AdEVA is skirting this exact topic; that the third impact should reveal all the horrible family secrets of the cast; and that the pilots climb into their mothers to battle their symbolic fathers I think we're being relatively restrained. This is so wildly removed from ShinjixAsuka style fanfiction that I don't know how we could discuss this in a more refined manner.
>>
>>19402958
>boats, as we know, are giant cunts.

I don't know about that. The fight against Gahgiel, in particular, shows ships in a very phallic light, what with the Angel being double penetrated and thoroughly stretched, and then exploded by the force of the firing. Besides that, ships are long and thin.

>[boats: penises or vaginas?]

The Greek for clitoris, or "cyber" is the "little man in the boat" or the guide. Navies normally deploy power in non-obvious ways. As we all know, the arm of the United States armed forces responsible for the most Iraqi deaths is the Navy, with their million premature mortalities in Iraqi children caused by the blockade.

The battleships that are used in EVA are women (the only male battleships being German!). Even ships such as the USS Winston S. Churchill are women.

Thrusting two women/vaginas inside a penis to destroy its ball and make it explode works fine inside the interpretive framework I've constructed to support 2.5's rule choices regarding breaching and neutralisation. The gulf between labia majora is long and thin.

There is a difference in the usage of battleships and other vessels, such as carriers. It's interesting that the carrier, which relies mainly on the craft which it supports, services, launches, and accepts back again for power projection, was entirely useless during the fight against Gahgiel, except as a platform for Unit 02, and the anchor for it.

I believe the carrier fits the theme of the vagina more than the battleships do.

Kaworu, being an Angel, and the type of character that cannot be physically defeated unless he wishes it, wouldn't benefit, I don't think. As for Shinji, an increase in muscle mass would have changed the dynamic, as his physical weakness reinforces his overwhelming desire to run away. It could still work, though, because one can be mentally weak even if they are physically strong.

I'm betting you five whole bucks Rei could have beaten Kaworu at armwrestling.

Yeah, I can understand that. I can imagine all sorts of reactions along those lines when you hear the terms 'Evangelion RP'.

AdEva isn't like what you are (probably) picturing. No freeform, it has actual rules. Its a game of teamwork to overcome incredible odds while you deal with your emotionally disturbed, underprepared pilot slowly cracking under the pressure of being in charge of the fate of the world. Games have their own storylines, often in settings where Tokyo-3 and the canon characters never even exist, which include unique Angels and often have their own mythologies. Using Norse mythos seems to be a popular choice, for example.

If you honestly don't believe me, check 1d4chan. I first released AdEva in the fall of 2009, and there are descriptions of a lot of campaigns since then on 1d4chan.

Alright, time to derail you asshats with assorted stories about how mary sue we are.

I've played a manufactured that was rife with identity issues since she's a created person. She's tried to kill herself twice, and succeeded; they just break out a new clone and implant more conditioning that makes it harder to kill herself. She feels robbed of the right of any sentient being to choose whether to pursue life or not, and of the ability to make certain choices. (Her conditioning goes fairly deep, and she's aware of aspects of it.)

She moved into the goth scene for a while, thinking that these were people who understood the concept of wanting death, but has eventually moved out of it because it's not really equipped to handle the existential pain of being unable to die.

She was fat and overweight because of depression, and constantly had conventional goth makeup on.

She hated the commander of the base, of course, blah blah, met other pilots, blah blah.

Speed forward to an angel that controlled her through her fears. The angel was defeated, but it left a fragment of itself in her mind, and she was driven to explore the lowest reaches of the base. She was also very broken up about being ordered to kill civilians using her Eva in a remote part of the base; there were apparently experiments gotten out of hand and infecting shit there. She followed orders, because it's almost impossible for her to act against them due to conditioning.

Anyway, with the aid of another pilot, she stole a keycard belonging to the base commander, and went happily down to Terminal Dogma (cont)

This isn't Game of Thrones, and if it was Kaworu isn't playing. He doesn't need his iron throne. He just ran straight into the sharp end of the sword held by the first emotionally buttravaged kid he found because he wanted to.

Anyhow, she got into Terminal Dogma, after a weird keycard glitch (it said 50% DNA match, and let her in since she had the card) (yes this is a terrible security feature and has been fixed since), and found the eldritch horror under the base. The base commander (a woman) also showed up, and after lots of teenage yelling and whining later, my pilot was driven by an urge to make a run for it. The commander shot to disable, accidentally got a head shot. My character died. The other pilot got sworn to secrecy, but my character's put together shit since then (memories erased.)

Fast forward a month, newest clone brought out. She's skinny again, hurrah. She's also highly confused. Eventually confronts the base commander in privacy about shit, about how she's not allowed to die, about how she's been kept controlled and isolated her whole life, about how she can't trust memories.

Commander's been incredibly uncomfortable this whole time, and makes some allegorical allusions to how she had a daughter who looked similar to Delphine (my character) who died in an accident, blah blah, she views Delphine in a way similar to her daughter.

Delphine calls bullshit, her life is fucking horrible, only a terrible mother would do this. At this point the commander is near tears, and Delphine wants to twist the knife a little, so she asks the commander her daughter's name, who else had such a horrible 'mother'.

After a long time of obvious internal struggle, the commander replies, "I...can't tell...you."

At that moment, Delphine realizes three things: The commander's daughter was named Delphine, she's cloned from her, and the commander is under the same extreme conditioning that she's under. (cont)

Also, plot!

Sorry for deleting the post, but I just realized that this was a game and therefore they don't roleplay, but play.

I think it's a game you play with dice and pens and paper. So you roll the dice and write down the numbers. I think it's much like yahtzee in that regard, since you can also play it with other people.

-Her mother's also a clone from someone's daughter. That someone is a major VIP in the world. Who it is, is at this moment, unknown.

-She's arranged it so that while she doesn't actually know what happened (so she can't be ordered to talk), she talked about some 'hypothetical' plans with another pilot to stage a death of another pilot who was turning into an angel due to EXPERIMENTS while getting her out to escape. Every other pilot thinks she's dead.

-We've recently captured another pilot from a different branch. She's conditioned even more severely, is also a clone, and disregards attempts to convince her she can make her own decisions with the argument that she's 'not a real person.' Trying to argue with her is extremely taxing on Delphine's psyche.

-All the other pilots have, presumeably, about as convoluted a story that I don't know the entirety of, since the GM has private sessions with each of us at times.

-I'm posting this just to annoy some of you with how awesomely mary sue you can make characters in this game.

Last session, the OD and the pilot he was rescuing were both in a VTOL that was hit by an Evangelion's severed arm. Another pilot was crushed in the plug.

This session, the two pilots who came out of the last session fine respectively:
- Woke up to find their entry plug parachute caught on their Eva, which was being eaten by the angel (apparently the N2 mine only slowed it down) and was driven almost to tang from the proximity.
- Lost their legs in a psychic duel with the... THING in our terminal dogma that converted the surface of our base into an alien forest.

Meanwhile the base is without power and every PC is in critical apart from one pilot who is in quarantine due to a high likelyhood of carrying some kind of horrific plague resulting from spending a few days lost in said alien forest.

It was a bad plan to make a mechanical class that revolved around plot advancement.

It also wasn't balanced and was all over the place design-wise.

The problem with Apostle wasn't where it started, it was what it turned into.

The initial idea of an Evangelion that embraces its Angelic nature a bit more isn't bad in and of itself. The problem is where that ended up.

This was in the early days of dev, right after V2 launched. So the difference between the dev team and the general community was pretty much invisible. Anyone could come in and make stuff up. We got some cool ideas out of that process...

But when you have players designing the career they want to play, the idea of balance goes out the window. Apostles could Berserk better than the Berserker, and knew fewer powers than the ATT but could pick any of them, even unique Angel AT Powers, AND make them pack more punch. At later levels, there were talents devoted to your abnormal synchronization causing traits of the Evangelion, such as Distinguishing Features and Natural Weapons, to apply to the pilot...

We tried to balance it and make it work, but any change we made deeply upset everyone who cared about the career. It took us a while to realize the disconnect: the people who wanted Apostle and the people who wanted a balanced game shared almost know overlap. Eventually it proved to be more trouble than it was worth, and we closed the book on Apostle and a it of things like it.

Something along the original idea of Apostle might, on day, make its way into V3. But it will basically have nothing in common with what people think of now when they bring up the Apostle.

I wish I could say thoroughly. But I cant.

We got a lot of good feedback from the Beta. but the turnout for the actual editing process was... unfortunate. We had roughly 3 guys who submitted anything on typographical errors, and none of them got through even one entire book, much less both of them.

That was one of the reasons for the delay. I Went in myself and cleaned up all the mess I could find... but this is material I have been working with for years. I am too familiar with it. So while I can say that I did manage to find and fix many issues, it would be hubris to assume I found them all.

Sadly, however, the Beta period is closed. This is the last version of any DH based AdEva system, 2.5 or otherwise, that I plan to release. That is one of the reasons I held the Beta in the first place: so we could do this right.

So while I appreciate the hell out of your offer, I am afraid the time for it has gone. I can only hope that it isnt as bad as it was in V2.

>>19405382

>>
>>19408856
This is Anno and Evangelion we're talking about. If there's a happy ending, it will only be RELATIVELY so, like EoE itself was.

I find it interesting that Asuka's been entirely sidelined this time around. Never mind the name change.

Asuka's arguably even more fucked up than Shinji.
>>
>>19408880
Which is what Gendo did in the first series, and look how THAT turned out.

Never mind that Shinji doing that this time around had him accidentally initiate Third Impact - and not care.
>>
>>19408880

Yeah, Rei and Shinji have both done that to date, and Mari seems to exemplify that as well. I do wonder whether Mari will actually play an important role from this point forward or if she'll be mostly a background character.

>>19408885
Asuka seems a lot more well-adjusted this time around, though obviously that's fairly relative. She does seem to be potentially still more whacked-out then Shinji even in Rebuild.
>>
>>19408902
We don't know enough about Rebuild Asuka to really say anything. Save that she's socially incompetent, does not have nor want friends, and is annoyed and confused by her interest in Shinji.

Oh, and she talks to a hand puppet.
>>
>>19408940

It makes me dawww... though, I think in real life it would be the most terrifying thing ever.
>>
>>19408940

Disagreed; her choosing to pilot EVA-03 on its test run was an act of genuine compassion in order to clear the way for Rei's plans, and she appears gratified when Rei thanks her. The following phone conversation she has with Misato on her way up to the entry plug also suggests that this Asuka is significantly more empathetic than the original, though of course, again, that's all relative since this is Eva, afterall.

Also, the scene where she crawls into bed with Shinji would suggest that she does, in fact, want friends; she's just too socially incompetent to acquire them.
>>
>>19408958
I think that that's just compressed character development for the sake of time concerns. Much how Rei in the Rebuild has developed socially and emotionally much more rapidly than in the series.

I suspect this will go very, very wrong when Asuka gets out of containment after the guy she sorta likes nearly fucking killed her and in the meantime they let some weirdo no one knows get in her Eva and totally wreck it.
>>
>>19409023

Oh, it's compressed character development for sure, but it's still character development.

Pirate Asula should be glorious, I cannot wait. The only mildly worrying thing is that, as someone observed, Asuka's a very emotive character and losing an eye might damage that in terms of animation/visuals, but we'll see.

Asuka attempting to murder Mari for trashing EVA-02 will be a beautiful thing.

And if she's anything like the old Asuka, she's violently, aggressively obsessed with her performance as an Eva pilot, since it's one of the ways in which she deals with feeling worthless. Nevermind the subliminal attachment from having a bit of mom's soul in it (wonder if that's still A Thing for her?).

I would be *surprised* is she wasn't irrationally, dangerously angry. At Shinji, for nearly killing her instead of helping her. At NERV, for isolating her after the fact. At the Angels or the world at large for maiming her, taking an eye. At the command staff - Misato, Ritsuko, et al - for letting a stranger in her Eva. At Mari, for destroying it. And possibly even at Rei, for getting closer to Shinji than humanly feasible, albiet unintentionally, while she was busy recovering and being isolated.

I like the boost you gave to the ATT compared to the beta; with cheaper XUPs it's a lot easier to get them toughness and armor/ablative so that they aren't glass laser cannons, and now that group synch isn't shit you can more easily get going those unavoidable, unmitigated 5d10 AATF attacks without worrying about tanging everyone else, nevermind the accompanying quantumsurged 1d10+20 pen YES breach YES teleforce blasts.

Seems hard to balance angels out against that, though. I guess you give them 2-3 fate points on reserve and use them to negate damage?

Oh, my. This sounds better and better. I think I'll start working on my setting to be able to grab some players just as v3 hits RC.
>>
I know it's been said before but I'm still rather disappointed that CFs can't actually hurt an angel now. Something like Battleships and Turrets should have been able to mount weapons big enough to at least hurt an angel. Why not give tanks a gun with a point or two of breach? After all, once you have evas with portable positron cannons, you should be able to put it on a large tank chassis too.

Sorry about the bitching, just an OD that got real sick about being not much more than a 'Fate point battery' to players in battle. Making turrets appear where I wanted would have been ok if turrets could hurt angels, as would have been the ability to call in more CFs.
>>
>>19409352

Kinda agreed. I always liked the SRW interpretation of them. Tough as all hades but you didn't need to be an eva to beat them, you just needed to hit it hard enough. The issue was just that most things didn't manage 'Hard enough'
>>
>>19409264
2.5 angelgen is not buffed much since beta, but I don't think people have had a chance to appreciate just how lethal 'Hard' angels are yet if they actually use their CR builds to counter the party.

At mid tiers, even with no CR we've seen Angels generated that fucking rolled through a party like a wave.

Just because endgame builds are *still* fucking ridiculous, doesn't mean you have an easy time climbing that ladder. By the "Shitting out augmented AATF Blasts on a per round basis" your GM shouldn't really be using random rolled angels anymore.
>>
>>19409378
After Ramiel, was there any heavy-hitter Angel that WASN'T practically impervious to conventional arms?

There's surely a point where the energy needed to harm - let alone kill - an Angel without the aid of an AT field causes collateral damage comparable to or in excess of what the Angel's doing. Otherwise you'd just drop future Tsar Bomba on every angel after luring it out into an unoccupied wasteland.

Leaving aside Angels that literally cannot be touched by conventionals, like the dirac sea one whose manifestation was actually a shadow or the Andromeda Strain ripoff.
>>
>>19409399

I dunno. If you take the SRW version of them I shot most angels to death with a beam rifle.

If you take the non-SRW version, there were still several angels that were at least troubled by weapons fire, even if they were not killed. And a Positron Cannon in a turret would be as dangerous as a positron turret in the hands of an eva without specific ranged powers.
>>
>>19409379
Well, it's not really endgame, since you only need to spend about 300xp on rank 5 to self-cast AATF (200 extra for quantum surge, 200 more to boost it with group synch), but if you're already building up to it, 200xp into rank 4 you can already fire the 1d10+20 teleforce blasts every turn.

Of course if your game ends on rank 4 you can consider it an endgame build, yes.
>>
>>19409420
I'm not talking about the low-tier ones like Sachiel or that stupid spider one that got killed with a pallet rifle of all things, though. I'm talking the late-series ones like Zeruel who don't even flinch under most EVA attacks, let alone conventional ones.

I mean, sure, in theory you should be able to apply enough energy to overwhelm their AT field AND their natural armor AND their aberrant biology AND their regenerative capacity; that's what happens to Ramiel. But the AT fields of high-tier Angels tended to be much stronger.
>>
>>19409450

RAW CFs can't even hurt the spider one. CFs didn't really get a heap of screentime.

Honestly, they should not be a unit in my opinion. They should be special abilities the OD has to call in particular types of attack/support like an Artillery Strike or a Bombing Run that can actually hurt the angel or cause useful effects. The CFs themselves are unneeded as units as they just add more bookwork.
>>
>>19409420

>And a Positron Cannon in a turret would be as dangerous as a positron turret in the hands of an eva without specific ranged powers.

Never got why the Positron Turret was less effective than giving it to an eva. You'd expect them to be better because they don't have to run off batteries in the gun but can connect to the power grid.
>>
The best you can really expect from conventionals, from what you see of the show:

1.) They stun, temporarily disable, or force the Angel to regenerate. Only that splitting one was disabled, and then by N2 mines, not tank barrages.

2.) They distract the Angel, particularly if it's a cockhead like Zeruel, and it takes time out to stop them bothering it.

3.) They slow it down simply by being in the way.

The only one that actually got killed by a conventional was the fish one, and that was after an Eva did all the serious effort. One could have effective conventionals, it could prolly easily be houseruled, but you're changing the aesthetic then.

It's static and has no AT field to protect it.
>>
>>19409514

Sort of. The game draws its inspiration as much from fanfiction (Particularly Shinji and 40k as well as Nobody Dies) and game interpretations (The Jet Alone Prime with the hammer being a prime example)

All of those have conventionals(Or at least non-evas) do some serious damage to angels.
>>
>>19409525

Shouldn't affect the damage.
>>
>>19409543
Also remember, this is based on a super robot show. When was the last time the JSDF actually manged to be useful in one?
>>
There is actually a fluff bit in the book that talks about this exact subject.

Basically, the point AdEva makes is that there is a decent chance of a Positron Turret landing a critical hit, and maybe even a kill, in its first fight. It might get blown up first, but there is still a chance ti will be worthwhile.

After that, though? There is a 100% chance that you lose the Positron Cannon and the battle in the second fight.

Angels are not the brightest things in the world, but they do learn and adapt. Once you waste the element of surprise on your badass turret, your Positron Cannon is going to get one-shotted as the opening move of every Angel after that for the rest of the game.

It works as a gun once, and a proximity alarm from there on after.

*The Positron cannon explodes, again*

"Whelp, guess an Angel is approaching the base. To battle stations!"

I always just assumed the turret versions of the weapons were smaller than the ones the evas used.
>>
A static, defenseless target would be lucky to get off a shot against an Angel before being destroyed, and luckier still if the first hit wasn't deflected by the Angel's AT field. And the positron cannon only scored a kill after drawing off power for an entire nation. In Rebuild, it took TWO hits to defeat a lower-order Angel, even then. I forget if Ramiel was hit twice in the series proper.
>>
actually I have a question, does the manufactured pilot asset that grants 5 assets points allow the character to go above the 25 point block or no?

Except, if you go with the nature of angels as they were depicted in the show, they don't communicate with each other. Each one is acting independently, and while it's highly likely they'll individually adapt to the tactics used against them if they survive the battle, subsequent angels will have no such resistance unless they're the kind that has been specifically monitoring the situation for a while before finally making its move.
>>
>>19409770

It also assumes that the turrets can't be pulled back underground until the Angel is spotted. They can pop the Evas out of the ground and pull skyscrapers into holes, they could hide the turret.
>>
>>19409770

We have no idea whether or not they communicate with each other, actually.

Given the adaptive tactics used by each Angel, I would personally think that they do, but hey.

>>19409788
If the turret pops out the Angel will destroy it as it's rising. Takes a while for hydraulics to move a fuckhuge turret into position.
>>
>>19409796

No longer than the Evas and they didn't tend to get shot at much until after they were up.
>>
>>19409803

The Evas get catapulted out of the ground at hundreds of miles an hour.

This would not happen with a turret.

>and then there's this asshole

Incidentally when I became convinced that Shinji was definitely a hero. He's 14, he's socially crippled, HIS MOM IS DEEEEEEEEEAD, he's clinically depressed and has - generously - two friends, and he still got back in the robot after being boiled in his cockpit and forced into emergency surgery.

You can't get most 14-year-olds to stop using "your" in place of "you're," let alone convince them to climb in the cockpit of a lobotomized alien to fight a giant geometric shape wot shoots lasers.
>>
>>19409819
The turret would weigh at most as much as the Eva and likely a lot less. There's no reason to assume it could not be made to raise rapidly.
>>
>>19409770

I am not sure if they communicate, but the clearly learn:

> Sachiel is defeated by an Evangelion in close combat
> Shamshel, while still being melee focused, uses weapons with a long reach and throws the Eva around in an attempt to dominate it in Melee and keep the Eva from attacking witht he same brutality that killed Sachiel
> Ramiel sees that the two previous Angels were both killed in Melee, and designs itself such that Melee is not even an option.

etc.

Things get weird after that, but early on at least there is a pretty clear progression of "Well, what the last Angel tried didn't work. I am going to try something else..."
>>
Wait, so why not have the Evas distract the Angel as the Positron Cannon turret rises?
>>
>>19409844
Sure, but the Eva is a magical alien made of bullshittium and doesn't need to STOP at the end of the elevator, just fly up and land on its feet.

A gun platform made of lower-grade Eva bullshittium is gonna need to be braked before it surfaces. Especially since you don't want to catapult your multi-billion-dollar antimatter cannon thirty stories into the air.
>>
>>19409853
Yeah, Zeruel was a clear refinement of the previous concepts.

If it had been more smart about its maliciousness, it could have killed Gendo and friends.
>>
>>19409854

Because if the Evas are going to be involved at all, you can just have them Neut the Angel to 0 and then you don't NEED Positron tech to get the job done. The whole point of the exercise is to say that you don't need Evas for other weapons to be effective.

Of course, we are focusing on the one weapon BMJ said was most likely to work without Evas, so I don't know what we are trying to prove anymore.

>>
Wouldit be prohobitively expensive to have more than one Positron Cannon Turret?
>>
>>19409919

If you are using them 'Instead of the Eva's' as some people are suggesting it's likely not much more expensive than the Evas themselves. Those things can't be cheap.
>>
>>19409948

If you're paying an amount of money equivalent to an EVA for one Positron Cannon, that is grossly expensive.

The EVA is a highly mobile, highly resilient offensive and defensive platform that can be used in a variety of applications.

The Positron Cannon is a defenseless fixed turret.
>>
>>19409853
It's actually more of a showcasing that the angels are all inherently wildly different, not that they're consciously attempting methods differing from their predecessors.

The Expert Coward trait seems....really really fucking good.
You never have to worry about Angels smacking you for trying to get away (and still be able to do things!) - which means you can easily be in point blank range for that +30 to hit.
You never have to worry about grapples ever - and it looks like this works even against Armasael, since he only wins autobeats WS test to get free, and you can just autopass a Contortionist test to get out (actually...it looks like ANYONE can just Contortionist their way out if they want)
And then the reaction disengage thing - holy crap. Even if a GM rules you can't use it to avoid an attack (because then you've basically got a better dodge that you can get bonuses to easier AND is better against multiple attacks and full and semi auto - and it looks like you CAN do this), you can still do things like disengage after they walk up or hell just disengage if they didn't attack you this turn - and because DH is weird and stupid Disengaging can be done in any direction, even TOWARDS the enemy.
>>
When are you going to make Berserker actually as good as the other classes? You may as well add a caption that says 'this class is meant to suck' if that's your design direction.
>>
>>19410063
Probably in V3?
This is essentially the last release before that, and the balance is going to have to be redone to some degree for the new system, so I don't think we're going to see any changes sooner than that.
>>
>>19410063

What are you going on about? Berserkers kick a whole lot of ass. They are not the best designed career, but they are certainly pulling their weight in terms of beating the crap out of Angels.
>>
>>19409432
First of all, AATF cannot outright kill an angel, even through damage. Second of all, any angel that has 4 ATP and Wrap Beam is, if the GM plays it that way, immune to teleforce blast.

Not to mention you'd probably be recognized as a hazard to life upon popping an AATF and quite possibly grounded/assassinated.

>>19409264
Rank 5 is designed to be endgame; we're working on the expectation that no one really reaches rank 6.

Anti-AT field is somewhat of a problem, I'll admit; but it's released now, it's unlikely to get updated from here on out, and if a GM doesn't like it he can just say "Players can't use AATF" or increase the ego damage or whatever. Have a rip in reality start to end life on earth due to opening an AATF of such focused power, or whatever. There's ways.

It's not a very nice solution, but it's the one you might as well use since this is the final release.
>>
>>19410164
Nope. V3 isn't going to make the Berserker career viable.
V3 isn't going to have careers at all, and Berserker is an Eva type. Last I saw, one of the better ones, even.

>>19410186
What parts of it do you have problems with?
>>
>>19401359

i don't mean to come across as a dick to BMJ or any of the other AdEva staff, but I've been trying to playtest adeva for awhile and keep running into the same problem.

Namely, having to retranslate every reference of Dark Heresy into a separate document for all my players.

In the future, would it be possible to just note what all these references are in some section of the core gamebook? That'd save myself and my players a lot of grief.

Thanks.
>>
>>19410412

>First of all, AATF cannot outright kill an angel, even through damage. Second of all, any angel that has 4 ATP and Wrap Beam is, if the GM plays it that way, immune to teleforce blast.

First of all, I'll take leaving the core at 5-6 critical any day.

Second of all, Teleforce Blast isn't a weapon so wrap beam doesn't work on it RAW, if the GM wants to play it that way, and even if the GM wants to play it the way you said while also considering it a weapon, note that wrap beam says it ignores ATS and DoS contributions to breach, not ATP contributions, which is what AT Powers get.

>Not to mention you'd probably be recognized as a hazard to life upon popping an AATF and quite possibly grounded/assassinated.

You can jaunt away from populated areas. I hear the stratosphere is rather clear of life. If someone grappled the angel or it has an AB less than 5 they can't avoid being spirited away, and for good measure it can be a selective jaunt, avoiding all collateral.

Overall, I'm very happy with the combat possibilities granted by ATTs. I suppose the best party would be 3 ATTs or 2 and a pointman.
>>
>>19410516
>note that wrap beam says it ignores ATS and DoS contributions to breach, not ATP contributions, which is what AT Powers get.

>Similarly, if you spend ATP on any AT Power to enhance a ranged attack from outside 20 dam, you may apply a bonus to your Breach equal to the ATP spent on the power as if that were your ATS.

It counts as your ATS bonus. BMJ himself said in this thread that the intention behind wrap beam was energy ranged attacks, not ranged weapons. As you've read this thread, you have very little excuse on insisting that you follow rules as written, unless you're just trying to drive exploits as hard as you can.

Finally, I don't see what's actually fun about having one ATT that wins a fight by himself (plus his batteries).
>>
>>19410582
No, no, no. As written, it's only ranged weapons. As intended, as said here by the head dev, it's ranged attacks. We're indeed doing a RAW discussion here and noteworthy RAI discrepancies should be addressed in the hopefully soon forthcoming errata.

In any case, Wrap Beam is still a reaction, just like dodging, so it's addressed in a similar way, except that you take away the grappling option but gain the simulcast neutralize with the teleforce blast option.
>>
>>19410683
>he thinks Angels have to follow the action rules for PC AT powers
>>
>>19410683
I'd accept your "WE'RE DOING A RAW DISCUSSION HERE" if doing so when the intentions are clearly laid out in this thread wasn't here.

The reason RAW arguments happen is because you almost never get to actually know for certain the RAI.

Insisting on RAW where you 100% know the RAI is about the dumbest thing I've heard.
>>
>>19410720
>if doing so when the intentions are clearly laid out in this thread wasn't here.

I'd appreciate it if you pretended this bit was in actual english.
>>
>>19410582
>Finally, I don't see what's actually fun about having one ATT that wins a fight by himself (plus his batteries).

Yeah, it's pretty silly that the ATT can win battles nearly by himself, but you kind of *have to try* in order to not get the tools needed to be able to do so, because they're all the stuff you'd normally get in order to be useful to the party. Everything you do benefits from magnify, high relevant stats, utility dense field, everyone likes the new group synch, etc.

So basically you'd have to pretend Teleforce Blast doesn't exist, ditto with AATF. Don't buy it, don't learn it from mimic field, don't get it from spark of genius.

Question - If a Skirmisher (or a Berserker with together as one hunter) uses Wrap Beam and hits, does Mighty Shot apply? For Skirmisher, does Precision apply if the original attack was a standard attack? What about Sniper, does that work with Wrap Beam? Commission or Support Fire?
Can they Called Shot where it hits if they send it back at the enemy or at another enemy? Can you redirect it at something OTHER than the original firer without taking the -20 penalty? What if I just want to make the beam go away? What if the thing that fired had multiple bodies, do I take the penalty if I redirect it to a body that DIDN'T fire it? Do you take bonuses/penalties to the roll for things like aiming, range, allies in melee, the enemy having a penalty to be hit, or visibility? What if the attack was used on full or seimiauto, can you even use it?
If ATP spent on the power doesn't count for breach, does that mean you can Wrap the Positron Beam power if you spend the same amount of ATP as they did? Actually, how does the Positron quality work with Wrap Beam?
Huh. Angelic weapons in angelgen don't have any breach unless they're Positron. Shouldn't they have at least SOME so they can hit Evas more than 20 dam away without needing a boatload of Degrees of Success?

Hey BMJ, I need some help here for something that came up in our game.

NERV Boston gives a bonus 20 research that says it "must be spend before
play can begin."

Everything you can research costs at least 30, though...

We've just cut the "before play can begin" bit and rolled with it, but this one might need errata. Figured I'd tell you.

>>19409342
Are you accepting player applications now?

Does a Fist natural weapon (or any other natural weapon) get the +2 breach bonus unarmed attacks get?
Did you mean for swords to be able to get Progressive? The Magorok's fluff makes it seem like it's the first one possible and is Tier 3 as well, but there's nothing stopping you from making them at Tier 1 once you get Heavy Progressive. Why do the Magorok's table entry and text entry use three different names? The table calls it a Magorake-E sword, while the text entry says 'Progressive Sword' and states it's also called the Magorok(E)xterminate Sword. Why doesn't it require Heavy Progressive when a progressive Spear does? Why do the Flail and Hammer say they can't be made progressive when they aren't rending, and the progressive upgrade says point blank it needs a rending weapon.
Why can't I make a polythermic knife? Well, I suppose I COULD but it'd be a two handed weapon...why isn't there a knife entry? Or any other compact weapon besides the Progressive Knives and Tonfa?
Why does the sword cost twice as much as the tonfa for +1 breach, while losing Compact and the really nice dual wield bonus? Why does a second Prog Knife cost 2 WUP?
Why don't the Shield, Tonfa, MkII Prog Knife, Core Knife, and Magorok tables have 'see text'?
Can you use weapons with the Slow property when using Two Weapon Wielding? Just says Swift/Lightning/Furious. ...CAN you get Lightning Attack?
If you're using a giant hammer that kills things because it's big and heavy, why does putting stuff on the edge of it make you not able to do more than one critical damage at a time? If you deal critical damage with a berserker and have the Rip and Tear talent, does Rip and Tear work? It's not the weapon doing the extra damage from the looks of things...
