haven't read through previous ones yet, and part 43 doesn't seem to work on suptg, but oh well, I'll just roll with it.
>>19263832Or, In Media Res>Previous Threads:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Metahuman%20Renaissance%20QuestPREVIOUSLY, ON METAHUMAN RENAISSANCE: Finished with his tour, Dan met the Extracurricular Activities Club of the Tokyo Learning Institute for Metahuman Youth, and after examining them with his Mage-sight, and finding some interesting facts, he settled in to talk with them for a number of minutes, answering questions and offering advice. But then the school was besieged by those mysterious shadow creatures as ominious black clouds gathered overhead. Now Dan must either escape or secure the campus with the aide of Tokyo's young heroes.
>>19263848http://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/19162810/>>19263872The alarms blare, and the PA continues going as the students assembled in the meeting room scrabble to get their gear in order and out of their seats. Anna looks back over her shoulder at you and opens her mouth. It starts forming the sentence, "These guys don't seem so tough", but then another pair of shadowy hands reaches into the room to grasp her. She dances back, but the vaguely humanoid creature lunges forward after her. You're having none of it, and simply extend your hand out, over Anna's shoulder, and send the thing flying back into the hallway with a Psi Ram. It lets out a strangled help before smacking into, and denting a wall. Anna lets out an impressive battle shout, and rushes out into the hall. She lunges forward, dispatching the evil spirit with a thrust. The sound her sword makes on shadow-flesh is a little unnerving. Cloth tearing, with the slightest hint of nails-on-chalkboard. You follow her out into the hallway, and look both directions, seeing maybe half a dozen of the smaller, humanoid creatures either way. You simply thrust out a palm in either direction, and send twin Psi Lances screaming down the hall, effortlessly piercing through them, before continuing on to impact the far walls of the building and make a sound which you think sounds like the city of Tokyo is going to be dipping into their "Collateral Damage" fund. You duck back into the room and see the twenty-odd students ready to go. Dr. Masters-Hamasaki looks at you and says "I need to check the building, and move any remaining students into the tunnels below the school!" You nod. She makes a sweeping gesture at the students. "The ECA should check the situation and hold them back if they can, until the JSDF can deploy." You nod again.>Plan of action?
Also, just so you guys know, there is kind of a Tropical Storm getting close to making landfall somewhere in the general direction of Northeast, and I'm getting the rain bands, so I have no idea if it'll fuck with my power or internet.
>>19264008Work on clearing paths for students to evacuate to the tunnels and make sure the tunnels are clear and safe. The kids here know what they're doing, but we should see if we can get them in our tacnet for better coordination.
>>19264101I'm not entirely aware of the current situation yet, so I'm just gonna support this. It's Japan, and even their metahuman school, so they're bound to have a good planning and infrastructure to take care of the whole thing.Just support what they themselves are doing now.
>>19264146oops, there went my name. oh well.
>>19264101>>19264146"I'll go first then." You say, and duck back out into the hall while the doctor gives some instructions in Japanese. Anna is busy taking the cloth which wrapped her sword previously, and is wrapping it around her hands and arms. "See, Daniel, this is why nobody wants to go anywhere with you." She says. "Trouble always seems to come too." "Hey, you can't blame me for this one. We're in a Japanese school for metahumans. What did you expect?" She chuckles, and nods her agreement. "Fair enough."The doctor now appears at the door, and since she's facing outward, your translator catches her words. "Half of you go out the building that way, " She gestures right. "The rest of you come with me. We'll check the building and get any remaining students and get them into the tunnels." The students pile out into the hallway, about ten of them, including Mastuoka and Nakamura rush off down the right hand path. You hold up a hand and say. "Here, let me go first. If I use my armor, at least, I'll be pretty impervious to harm, I think." She nods, and you turn back to Anna, who is facing the other direction, watching the kid leave. She looks over her shoulder at you. "Sorry Daniel, but I'm not one to run from a fight." She waves her sword a little. "Besides, this can *cut* them." You nod at her, and extend a hand. "Good luck." She returns it, and shakes. You both set off in different directions.>Follow Dan>Follow Anna
>>19264500>Follow AnnaLet's see what she can do.
rolled 45 = 45>>19264500Dan Always
>>19264500conflicted, but going for dan though.
>>19264500Dan seems like he can dispatch these guys easily, Anna might be more interesting. Also it's different.
>>19264500Anna, lets give her a shot.
>>19264500So, 4chan thinks my post is spam, somehow, and I don't have the time to keep changing it until I find out what's wrong. So here is an image of the text. I'll be back in a second with a character sheet for Anna.
>>19264904
>>19264904What sort of things can we pull off with Archanomath?Maybe trap the legs by doing something to the floor below it then focus on the upper half, chopping off the arms.
>>19264904Since it seems to multiply upon dismemberment, are we able to find a source of main life in it?
>>19264947>>19265004maybe we can combine this, use arcanomath to find the core and pierce it with our drill from the hea- wait, no, I mean, slice it with our sword.
>>19264947Anna can basically rearrange physics here and there, with it. But only in the form of a mathematical equation. Also, if it's not a real basic idea, she'll have to solve the equation by writing it out, which takes time or could be interrupted. But yes, you could alter the rules of the floor so that it, say, becomes more viscous or is temporarily a liquid, or something.
Hey, I just had an idea. Ram + Burn = A concussive shaped explosive. Ram + Psibolt could work too. It should be good for blasting down doors, both damaging and knocking about enemies, and so forth. It could even be like a grenade version of our psibolts, that explodes on impact instead of just hitting on impact. If we go with grenades, it would be:Psibolt + Ram = Concussive/FragBurn + Ram = Incendiary GrenadeFreeze + Ram = Freeze GrenadeWe might even be able to set up a long-range accurate artillery power with Lance + Ram. What do you guys think? What do you think, Omega?
>>19265104Psibolt evolved, we don't really have it anymore. It's Psilance. I suppose we could just let out a short burst of psilance but that's up to Omega.>>19264904Anyway, stab one in it's center of mass.
>>19265126No, we do still have psibolt. See:>>19264008We have both. Which is good, because I don't think we can lob psilance parabolically over the top of things.
>>19265126Bolt is still on the character sheet, and you can use it if you want. But Lance is better in most situations, I'll admit.>>19265104All cool ideas, but sadly, not possible. This is because the psychic program is designed to form some kind of self-sustaining program which basically sits and performs its function while Dan is free to do something else. Now, you could probably stack Burn into the "Missile" program, which is an Option that shoots Psi Rams.
>>19264921>The Black Sword in relationshipsIt's alive?
>>19265162>Now, you could probably stack Burn into the "Missile" program, which is an Option that shoots Psi Rams.Could we make an Option that is a single seeker missile that chases the target until it hits them? And mix in Burn and stuff to have specialized seeker missiles? If not, an Option that shoots Incendiary and/or Concussive Psi Rams would be baller.
>>19265165>It's alive? You should know better than to ask that question.
Awww hell yeah, I made it here only two hours late this time!
>>19265183>>19265165You can have relationships to/with objects. But also, no, it's not entirely inanimate. It's an eldritch artifact of [great and terrible] power. >>19265140>ecause I don't think we can lob psilance parabolically over the top of things. No, but you can't accurately hit a target .9 mi away (similarly close to 1.5km for those of you who like metric) with a Psibolt either.
>>19265252Exactly. It's good to have both tools in our arsenal. Psibolt and Psilance both have clear, distinct situational advantages.
>>19265126>>19265045You briefly consider whipping up a quick equation to sort these guys, but before you can even get an idea of what you want to change, the torso swings a fist at you. You riposte and take his hand off at the wrist and it flops onto the ground, then evaporates before your eyes. You hear someone behind you should something you assume means "get back" and hear them scrabbling away from it, trying to get some distance. The torso flexes its arm, and with a wet sound, its hand grows back. Well, these boys *are* resilient. Something whistles through the air, and a half a dozen throwing stars whiz past you and smack into the two creatures. A couple of them don't just pass through, but stick, making sounds like they hit something solid. "Hit the core!" shouts the one girl, the one who seemed to know Daniel. You look back at the pair. You can do that.(cont)
>>19265728Underneath all the other stuff, the universe is one thing. Math. You like math. And luckily, your new toy seems to like math too. You mentally draw a line, and press your thumb onto the edge of the gem embedded in the sword. At first it remains as black as ever, but as the drop of blood finally meets it, and is absorbed, it glows violent red, and the lines flow down the blade. You draw the line in the air, leaving a crimson streamer of energy, skimming the bodies of the two shades. Then the line opens up, a yawning, elliptical cosmic void maybe as far across as your hand at its widest. It hangs in the air for half a second, then the universe notices you're fucking with it, and patches the small hole you punched in it with the sound of a two synthesizers riding tidal waves jousting. In the absence of the void, the there is nothing left where you drew that line, which has eaten up the centers of both creatures, their remains turning into black smoke and dissipating. "Holy shit!" the guitar girl says, somewhere behind you. You swing the sword up to rest on your shoulder, and whistle the tune of the universe filling pot holes.
>>19265750Find more monsters, hunt them down. Introduce them to the business end of the sword. Give Japan a demonstration of Archanomath.
>>19265750>whistle the tune of the universe filling pot holesThat sounds hard to whistle. She must be a damn good whistler.
>>19265992I feel I should make a joke about what tune she's whistling, but I can't think of an appropriate song.
>>19266209I'm picturing one of those mysterious subsonic oceanic sounds. Or five-part harmonic whale song.
>>19265978You turn to face the slightly surprised teenagers. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go hunt some monsters!" You say to them. Never hurts to raise some spirits.A few moments later, you burst outside. The alarms are even louder and more insistent outdoors, but the PA seems to have stopped. Black, almost oily clouds hang over the school slowly reducing to a normal overcast shade as you get farther and farther from it. You can hear the whine of a few of those disc-like security drones, accompanied by the occasional buzzing, clicking sound of electric discharge. You try and locate the sound, but it's drowned out by a rumble of thunder. You look up, and see oddly muted flashes of lightning in the clouds. You see a couple of the arcs, and they look strange. Black and luminous at the same time. You also notice it's snowing. The best word you have for it. Little shadow seeds drifting down, to alight on the ground. A pair of them hit the surface, and instantly inky blackness coalesces around them to form two of the shorter ones, with long, lanky, clawed limbs. They look up at you with only glowing yellow orbs for eyes, and open black mouths filled with *very* white teeth. (cont)
>>19266689The girl with the bow lets loose one of her arrows right into its center of mass, and it explodes like a balloon filled with India ink popping. The remains then quickly evaporate up as black smoke. The other one barely finishes double-taking the loss of its kinsman before the girl puts another arrow right in its head, which similarly pops. It scrambles around headless just long enough for the pistol kid, Nakamura you think his name was, to load a glowing red shell in and shout "FIRE!" with gusto. True to his word, a streak of flame shoots out of the gun, connects with the creature, and explodes like a detonation like a grenade. When the smoke clears there is no more creature. One of the other boys says something in Japanese. Your don't catch all of it, but you assume it was something along the lines of "Pair up and spread out" because that's what they do, moving off to go and follow the drone noises. A pair of seeds land on a roof ahead of you, and a couple of the big boys pop up. They look down in your general direction. >Your move?
>>19266703If they're still far enough away for us to get some arcanomathematics off, then that. If not, fall back and skirmish with the sword, those guys are a bit too big to take on two at a time head-on.
>>19266703Charge them, turn the ground they're standing on to liquid, let them sink a bit then resolidify it to trap them. Then we chop them in the core.
>>19266732>>19266740Still whistling your tune, you do some quick calculations in your head, and use the tip of your sword to start drawing an equation down in the sandy turf of the school. While doing so, you casually, without looking, give the two big shades the bird. They grunt in surprise, an oddly human noise. You finish the equation, though you had to guess at the right volume you needed. You finally deign to look at the pair, and yell out "Come and get it, big boys!" They snarl at you and jump down, landing in the space in front of you. Which has the consistency of quicksand. They sink to about rib depth and you scrub out the equation with a boot, solidifying the ground back up. Then you draw another line, and introduce the core regions of the monsters to nothing, which causes them to rapidly dissipate. You look around. You can hear the sound of fighting, but no new enemies readily present themselves. You pull out your phone, thinking to try calling Daniel, but your phone acts funny, the screen randomly obscured by burst of static. It has a clear picture long enough to show "No Signal.". You could try to find where Daniel needed up on foot, or just go wandering around slaying monsters until the JSDF shows up.
>>19267089Let's keep killing monsters. We know that Dan can handle himself, but we can only guess as to whether or not these students can.
>>19267089Or you could sit down and try and work out the equations to make it sunny again because the shadow monsters really don't like light and the clouds are spitting out reinforcements as long as they're there.
>>19267137You tuck your phone back into a pocket, and look up. The weird storm continues. You briefly consider trying to do something about it, but it's too large for you to solve simply, and arcanely charged already. Just fucking it with would be bad, and you really don't have the time to make a study of the phenomena. So it's back to killing monsters. Daniel can look after himself, but some of those kids don't seem very well powered, as they say, for this kind of thing. So, you go rushing off to the nearest sounds of a fight. You pass the pyrokinetic girl shooting streams of fire from her hands and leading a group of slightly younger looking students to safety. You stay out of her way, not wanting to become a literal example of the term "friendly fire". After making sure to steer clear, you find yourself in the central area of the school. This seems to be the center of the storm, where the clouds are blackest, and the flashes of blue-black lightning the most frequent. A large concentration of the seeds seems to be falling here, but no creatures are forming. Before you can wonder why, thunder roars in the sky, which is odd because you don't see a lightning strike. Then a coil of force, black as the night but outlined by a white-hot glow courses down from the sky, and slams into the ground, sending up a debris cloud. You're not sure, but you think that you can see a figure in the mixture of smoke and dust.>Approach>GTFO
>>19267695Toss up some arcanomathematics to slow the advance of whatever's in there, then fall back to a better position for advanced maths and/or skirmishing with a sword.
>>19267695Approach, we've got a dangerous fellow to stab. We can't let this guy go free. We'll want to turn the ground to soup and the air to fire around him.
rolled 82 = 82>>19267695run away put up a barer or something to make it harder for what ever to get near us or the kids
>>19267778>>19267789You slowly approach closer, trying to get a better look at this new enemy. You can see it now, an indeterminate shape, about seven feet tall. It's body is oddly smooth, but the head mysteriously angular. As some of the dust settles, you see why. It's wearing a large, black war cloak, which conceals his main body from view. He head comes clearly into view, revealing a large samurai-style helmet, though one that looks like it's made from some dark metal. The mask is angular, streamlined. Like a raptor. Or a shark. You're no expert, but it kinda looks like the display of the museum of the guy called "Kurosawa" or "The Black Rider". Which would probably be bad.(cont)
>>19268062An armored hand extends from inside the cloak, holding what looks like a fan. He opens it up, revealing it is, in fact, a black silk fan, with a golden character you don't recognize on it. He gives it a nonchalant flick, and suddenly the debris cloud whooshes away from him in all directions in a gust of wind, forcing you to cover your eyes momentarily. When you look again, you see the figure tuck the fan back somewhere under the cloak. You also see the clouds overhead spiraling gently with the gust throwing a number of the seeds far and wide, out into the city. The figure turns to look face you and speaks in Japanese, which your translator picks up. "A foreigner, here?" The voice seems slightly tinny. You spot his eyes, pinpoints of red light, as if reflected, shining somewhere deep behind the helmet. The eyes drop down to your sword, then back up to your face and then he speaks in English. "It takes all kinds." Then he flexes his neck. It sounds more like steel grinding than joints popping. The voice is like a Japanese darth vader, if he was actually speaking to you from behind an iron mask. He throws off his war cloak, revealing his armored body. It looks like a what a samurai *would* wear, if he'd been able to import his aesthetic over to plate-mail. He has one long Japanese sword strapped to his back and a katana at his belt, though some how the belted sword doesn't match the rest of his style. He draws the one on the back, and ends up flourishing a four ft long, gently curving blade. He points it right at you, and says, "Drop your weapon, and walk away, and you may yet live to see the end of this day.">Your response? (Keeping in mind you are Anna Ellsworth, who stabs reality and doesn't afraid of anything)
>>19268084"Who are you?"Make sure to be entirely unimpressed with his response. In fact while he's talking do some preparatory maths to turn his weapon into jelly or something.
>>19268084Look at the sword, then at him, then back at the sword, then say, "I know when I'm outmatched. I'll leave. I won't leave my sword, though." The whole thing with the Red Star should, I assume, have finally taught her when it is and isn't a good time to pick a fight.
>>19268084>>19268278Omega is clearly hinting to us that Anna wouldn't be the kind of person to back down here.Lets at least get in some banter."Why?"
>>19268084Do what >>19268249 said.
>>19268295>>19268249>>19268397You idly tap the tip of the sword on the side of one of your boots. "That seems a little forward. Asking a girl to give up her sword. I mean, I don't even know you." The eyelights narrow a bit, and he changes stance, ever so slightly. You start calculating a quick formula and scratching it into the ground. "You should put that sharp tongue of yours away, it is not suited for fighting." He says. "Or are the foreigners in this day and age so ignorant to not know my by appearance, if not by reputation?" His feet slide around, slightly shifting stance. It's different than the fighting styles you've seen or been practicing lately. But this will take precise timing. "If you wont let it go," He says, voice getting colder, more steely. "I will cut it away from you." Then he moves. (cont)
>>19268785Split between watching him and figuring out some numbers and occult symbols, you have to choose, and not getting dismembered is prioritized as he crosses the distance between you way faster than any person (if that) encased in metal armor has any right to. You block two strikes, but feel yourself being physically moved by the blows. You try to lock blades, but he simply shoves, and you slide back a couple of yards. Deciding to take this seriously, you quickly toss off your coat, and get your sword up into a guard. The Black Rider pauses to let you get ready, then presses the attack. Blows rain on you like an avalanche, the force of them sending pain up into your arms. You can't hold a defense up for long. Deciding to stop fucking around, you move to draw a line through him. His sword smacks into your swipe, pushing your blade aside and bring his left arm up and then driving his elbow in to your chest. Air rushes out of your lungs, and he moves to riposte. You manage to twist under it and then come around to slash at him, but he takes his blade in both hands and makes a sweeping motion up, meeting your blade. The force of it sends you flying back a number of feet again, until you collide with a wall, smacking your head against it, and you see stars. While you struggle to untangle the knot of pain from your vision you can make out the figure approaching. Then someone shouts "Hey, asshole!" The Black Rider turns his head, then shifts it just a hair to the side as a blue-white beam of energy streaks over and barely misses his face. You track your vision over to see Daniel standing there, hand extended. His coat billows in the wind, dramatically. Fucker.METAHUMAN RENAISSANCE PART 45 END
>>19268853>Fucker.Heh. Perfect. When will the next thread (probably fail to) be?
>>19268879It will probably fail to be Tuesday. Though I think I've been pretty good about Tuesday threads. Not sure.
