Is there such a forest in the city? You've been to your share of forests and parks as a hobo - they're relatively quiet, and you can hear people coming from a long way off. But now you don't know where this is.

A thick fog obscures just about everything, and so you stumble from tree to tree, looking around for the next outline of the trunks. You don't like being lost. You should be afraid. But you aren't. Your entire body is quivering with pleasure, someone else's pleasure. The grey light of day pleases you. The strange sound of the wind, coming in warm gusts and pants, pleases you.

As you wander, you hear a voice, off to your left. When you look there - nothing, no trees. If you want to follow the voice, calling your name breathlessly, you have to abandon those visual signposts.

> What do/say?
>>
It's Saturday evening. You're home... you think.

> You need to find out more about Mayne Parish, and the Incipient Creation. Kevin really hasn't told you much about Creation, though. Well, just look for depressives...
>>
rolled 79 = 79

Follow the voice. Let's adventure.

Rolling for lucid dreaming.
>>
Do we recognize the voice? Is it Laura?
If it is, follow it.
>>
Get follerin'

Gotta find a way out of this chick's head before we do permanent damage here.
>>
>>19187228
No, there's probably lots of stuff to be learned by going deeper.
>>
>>19187147
>Skills:

I must ask, which one of these is best for defense and which is for offense?
>>
>>19187167

> 79: sharp discernment!

It is indeed Laura's voice, though higher-pitched than normal. You feel the fog condensing on your skin as you stumble out.

'Dylan! Dylan!'

'Laura-' you slip on something. It's a damned downward slope, and you try not to cry out as you fall, tumbling and hoping there isn't a jagged rock you would dash your head on. It's several seconds before you right yourself again, but you feel a pain in your foot.

That's when you figure something's up, and think you know what the situation is. Damnit. You'd tried your hardest not to probe Laura's mind during sex, in case you knocked her out like Anne, but this is probably her space - her thoughts. Just then, you hear another voice to your right, calling for Laura.

When you clamber to your feet, hobbling along, you see some log cabins, kayaks left to dry, a basketball court in a clearing. Some sort of... camp, you reckon? You wouldn't know, you've never been in one. The voice calls again.

'Laura! Laura!'

'Marina, is that you?'

You orient yourself towards those voices.

> What do/say?
>>
>>19187246

Here's the brief explanation I gave last thread:

> Self Control: prevents you from unleashing powers too intensely, or unleashing when you don't mean to.

> Sense Proprioception: You can sense the exact positions and postures of people within a certain distance.

> Pinpoint Presence: In a crowd, you can easily pick out single voices, and remember them for future recognition.

> Obfuscation: Makes you less noticeable, both physically and mentally.
> Influence Sound and Sight: Allows you to create illusions that are perceptible to sound and sight.

> Implant Mental Image: Whereas you normally influence people directly at this stage, more tough-minded people will resist, and direct influence can be more damaging and more easily found out. This allows you to simply put images into people's minds, which manipulates them rather more subtly.

I guess, defence wise, Obfuscation hides you well; Implant Mental Image is rather more offensive or geared towards influencing normal people. You don't really have any combat skills against Psychs right now. And Dawn hasn't told you anything about them, even. Maybe you're not authorised to know?
>>
>>19187252
Approach carefully.
>>
>>19187252
It's ok Laura, I'm here. Follow the voices and find where she is in this camp.
>>
>>19187287
I think we should try to observe without intervening for a time. To see what Marina is doing with Laura, etc.
>>
>>19187305
I thought we are Laura in this scenario
>>
>>19187280
>>19187287
>>19187305

You can actually feel the earth beneath you seem to churn, and suddenly become wetter. It's probably better to clamber than to try running in a fog as thick as this, so you clamber in their direction. Would calling out to Laura assure her, or frighten her?

Best not to call out. As you crawl close enough, you see Laura standing there, with her honey blonde hair, looking around - and then a presence appears from the fog and tackles her. Laura squeals as she falls, and you wonder if she's hurt, but soon she sits up.

'Dude, Marina, don't do that!'

Marina laughs, a loud laugh, a beautiful laugh. 'Laura! Can I tell you something?'

'What, that you love me? This is like the sixteenth time.' Both of them laugh, Laura still breathless. You see that Marina is a lanky girl with dyed red hair and a nose ring. She stops laughing first.

'I'm serious about that, you know. I'm serious about it. I do like you very much, Laura. I like your eyes... and your hair... and the way you smell...'

You have to keep clambering to avoid the sensation that you are somehow about to fall, and then you notice something - the ground is receding from around Laura and Marina, so soon they are sitting on the edge of an abyss, hands clutching each other. Marina makes the advance, leaning forward.

> What do/say? Or keep observing a girl on girl make out session, you perverse young man?
>>
>>19187396
See if we can read any of Laura's body language to see if she is objecting to this.

Get closer, get more details before do anything drastic like trying to pull them apart. But don't just stand there with our jaw on the floor.
>>
>>19187396
>Or keep observing a girl on girl make out session, you perverse young man?

Sounds like a plan.
>>
>>19187396

Edge closer. Is the land receding around us too?
>>
>>19187441
>>19187449
>>19187452

Laura seems more surprised than anything, such that she doesn't move when Marina finally makes contact. At first she seems accepting, putting her arm around Marina's head; but then after a while she squirms and eventually pushes the lanky girl away.

'Wait. What?' Marina sits there. 'What... what's wrong?'

'I can't do this,' Laura whispers. You are pretty sure your real ears are hearing her whisper it too, actually. 'I can't do this. I don't... look, I'm not gay. It's fine that you are, Marina, that's great, but... I'm not.'

'Wait. You're telling me this after three months of solo lunches and badminton games and evening runs?' Marina's voice rises, and a rumble begins to sound from all around you, all around the forest and the air. 'What... what the *fuck* are you talking about?'

'You're an awesome friend! And a great badminton partner! And, you know, I...' Laura is cut off as Marina attacks her again. This time it is an attack, an aggressive move, as Marina pins her arms and pushes towards her. Laura struggles against it for some moments, and then it's over and Marina pulls away.

'Well. I guess that's fine,' she says, brushing her red hair off her eyes. She looks around, and seems to have noticed the abyss. 'I guess I can live with that. Can you look at me, Laura?'

'What?'

Before Laura can say any more, Marina steps off into the abyss. Your ears suddenly tremble as the rumble turns into a deafening roar, shaking you to the bones.

> What do/say? Also, roll d100!
>>
rolled 59 = 59

>>19187543

Ohhh shit. Run to Laura!
>>
rolled 6 = 6

>>19187543
Get to Laura now, try to comfort her and say it's ok.
>>
rolled 46 = 46

>>19187543

Not... sure what to do really! Hide I guess?

Also, try to pull away from Laura's head.
>>
>>19187566

> 59 vs. 36: success!

You look up, despite the rumble, and manage to clamber to Laura. Her mouth is open, grotesquely, screaming; you grab her shoulders before she overbalances and falls into the abyss as well.

'Laura! It's me, it's Dylan!'

'Oh god I've destroyed her! It's all my fault!'

You pull her away from the edge into your arms as she cries, and then feel your eyelids grow irresistibly heavy. It feels like blinking, a mere moment, but when you open your eyes again the sky outside is now dark and clear. Streetlight is shining. The thoughts of dinner, of middle-class residents anticipating the potato salad and roast chicken downstairs, seep into your mind like cold water into a boiling kettle.

You're... you're back in the world. Laura is naked, beside you, and her fingers are digging uncomfortably into your shoulders. Your arm is a mess of tears and snot from her as she sobs and trembles.

> What do/say? You're back in the real world. It looks to be evening now, dinnertime.
>>
>>19187717
Well, looks like she had an unpleasant dream and we were dragged into it.

Can we put her mind at rest?
>>
>>19187717
Well that crash and burn Let's see if we can get her to stop crying and calm down using our words I guess and I wouldn't want to use psyche powers for that due to the fact that the kinda stuff she doesn't want anyone to see which includes us
>>
>>19187829
(Same Poster) So stick to the classics like "Are you okay" "Why are you crying?" etc.
>>
>>19187806
>>19187829

You touch Laura's face gently, and then you realise she's still asleep. Her hands tense around your shoulders every now and then.

It takes you quite a while to gently nudge and shake her awake, but whens she finally wakes up it's with a start. 'Oh. Dylan? What... what's happened?'

She then looks down, sees her state of undress, and rubs her face as if suddenly exhausted. 'Did we...? What happened? I'm... I'm crying.' Then she sobs again.

> What do/say?
>>
>>19187717
Calm her with our psychic powers.
>>
>>19187865
Calm her with our psychic powers.
>>
>>19187865
"Yes you are.
Had an unpleasant dream? Wanna talk about it?"
>>
>>19187886
second this and be kind and all that jazz. We should try for her to stop crying and get this snot off of us
>>
>>19187869
>>19187885

No, we're not doing that.
Tell her she seems to have been having a bad dream.
>>
>>19187935
>>19187930
>>19187886

You turn around and turn on the bedside lamp. Well... this is a bit of a mess, isn't it? 'Yeah. You... well, I think you were dreaming.'

'I had a dream, yes. Summer camp. You were there. And then-' you feel her mind alighting on that lanky, red-haired figure before pulling away. She looks at you. 'Did you hear anything? What... was I saying?'

As she says this she's pulling your hands to touch her, which you haven't any complaints about. But as you acquiesce, you feel a tumult in her mind, like the thunderstorm that seems ready to break outside the window. The whole night sky is an angry, purplish red. She's trying to bribe you to tell her the truth. Or to tell her she didn't mention Marina, she didn't just let you in on the secret.

'Dylan? So... what... what happened? I mean, we did... fuck, right?' She whispers that last bit. Her smile is cute, but again you sense that motive behind it. What does she want of you?

> What do/say?
>>
>>19187976
"What? You don't remember?
You weren't drunk yesterday, if I'm not mistaken."
>>
>>19187976
Well, did we ?

Tell her she called for Marina in her sleep.
>>
>>19187976
Yeah I hope so otherwise us being naked here would seem kinda weird.
>>
>>19187988

Wasn't yesterday, was just after lunch.
Hug her. Say she was just crying and mumbling stuff, we didn't catch anything. It's fine now.
Could that Marina be the girl we're looking for in the girls' school?
>>
> Well, just to clarify, sex was indeed had. All that panting and the fog you had in the dream was Laura, as was the feeling of pleasure permeating everything.
>>
>>19187999
(same poster) Use this only if we did even though I pretty sure we did the dirty deed. I mean it's kinda weird to fall asleep naked if you didn't do anything.
>>
>>19187999
Maybe we stopped at some point, because of her fog or something.

Let's just hug her without saying much.
>>
>>19188020
Thanks for the clarification
>>
>>19188008
Second this
>>
>>19188008
>Hug her. Say she was just crying and mumbling stuff, we didn't catch anything. It's fine now.
Maybe if we push her to talk about things, she'd feel better about them.
I say we mention Marina.
>>
>>19188021
>>19188008
>>19188022
>>19187999

'Eh... yeah, I think we did. I felt good.' You pull her into your arms as she tries to chuckle at the remark. 'You were crying and sobbing, and saying stuff, but I couldn't really catch anything...'

'Is that so...' there's a sense of disappointment in her. Well, you don't think she would be less disappointed, or apprehensive, if you had mentioned Marina. So you just hug her, looking down at the outline of her spine, her moving shoulder blades. Poor girl is really quite thin.

It's several minutes before you pull away and clean up. You follow the trail of clothes out into the living room until you're both dressed, and then Laura goes to have a shower. The feeling of her pleasure lingers in your mind, and also the suspicion that you've stumbled on something. Sexual frustration... trouble with love and hormones... that's the sort of stuff you're meant to look out for, right? Maybe you should tell Kevin about this?

> What do/say? The evening is quite free, it seems.
>>
>>19188068
Pop on the telly, and have a beer.
>>
>>19188068
Join Laura under the shower.
>>
>>19188068
We can do that when she ain't looking. We don't have to call Kevin right this moment is what I'm trying to say.
>>
>>19188068
What time is it ?

If it felt good once, it'll feel good twice, right ?
>>
>>19188093
(Same Poster) Disregard this post didn't read about the shower so yeah call Kevin or text him
>>
Guys
She obviously has some issues with sexual releationships
let's stop trying to get laid with her again
>>
>>19188082

Let's do that. Be nice, try to nudge her into talking about Marina.

She probably wants to say something, but at her pace, so let her. Or should we probe her and influence her into talking?
>>
>>19188093
I don't think we should tell Kevin about it. As far as we know, it's nothing seriously problematic. Sex troubles are normal for a teenager. We'll contact him about it only if we find that it takes undue proportions... and we don't know if it does for now.

Let's explore Laura some more.
>>
>>19188115
>Or should we probe her and influence her into talking?
No
>>
>>19188112
Abstinence won't solve her problems about sex.
>>19188115
But we should be careful about influencing her. Probing is okay, though somewhat rude, but direct influence might have bad results.
>>
>>19188093

Oh yeah, sure. It's just a mental note to call Kev, since it seems related to what he asked you to do.

You do wonder if there is other work you can be asked to do as well, actually. Come think of it, would you get paid for this?

>>19188115
>>19188112
>>19188082

As Laura is showering, your sense of her proprioception and her very presence makes you increasingly fidgety. She does seem disappointed, uncertain, almost fearful; compared to all the harmonious dinner scenes going on downstairs, whether it's someone tearing into yoghurt in front of the TV or a family of three enjoying a pasta bake, it feels incongruous and you can't help focusing on it.

Pushing off the couch, you go into her room, seeing her bag propped against the desk, her bra lying casually on the bed. You knock on the door.

'... Dylan?'

'May... may I come in?'

There's a pause before she agrees and tells you the door is not locked. Inside, you feel the heat of a pretty hot shower, and the walls all wet with condensation. You step into the stall and she looks at you, one hand over her breasts and the other stuck in her shampooed hair, the shower head turned off and dripping onto the floor. Drip. Drip. Drip.

'Um...' you know the rest of what she wants to say. She wants to ask you about Marina. She doesn't want to ask you. She wants to hug you and start licking you all over, and she wants you to get out so she can clear her mind. She doesn't want you to get out. She wants you to no she doesn't she wants Marina she wants you... 'you... okay?'

You realise the sense of her confusion has turned your face into a grimace.

> What say?
>>
>>19188198

You know what, just ask her about Marina. Gently. We need to know, anyway.
>>
Also, shit, your real money situation is:

> $1,180 in bank, $217 in hand.

Just to clarify, once again.
>>
>>19188198
"Yeah...just a little of headache"
"Say Laura...is everything okay with you?"
>>
>>19188198
"Its nothing, I was just worried about you"

then have hot sex in the bathroom.
Marina for later
>>
>>19188219

This. No sex for now. We aren't supposed to get ourselves a steady girlfriend now, we'll probably eat her mind!
>>
>>19188198
"You know... there was something that you said during your sleep between sobs and sniffs.
You were repeating one name. Maria. Does this sudden change of mood have something to do with her?"
>>
Im not sure why people are so scared about Laura being in the same building as us.

I mean, there are lots of other people in the building as well. She is FAR from our only source, so she shouldnt have any problems.
>>
>>19188198
The shower may not be the best place for an open-hearted talk.
Let's hug her and talk near her ear.
"Yeah... Are you ? I want to tell you that if you feel like anything, I'm right here for you... even talking."
Then proceed to do something else than talking. Licking all over sounds like a good idea.
The talking will come after we get out of the shower, satisfied and relaxed.
>>
>>19188271
I don't think nobody is scared of Laura
i know i'm scared of Probing anyone
that NEVER go well
>>
>>19188257
Repeated sex is normal for healthy teenagers. That won't make her fall in love with us faster.

>>19188309
Probing usually goes well, except that we're often interrupted while reading interesting thoughts. It's when we try to change something inside that things get out of hand.
>>
>>19188351
No that's reading
everytime we probed we fucked it up

You can, in fact, feel yourself draining more from Laura right now already. It's a subconscious thing, the same way you eat stuff that tastes nice and is a familiar flavour. It takes very little effort to push those annoying dinner-eaters out of your thoughts and consume Laura alone.

The fact that she's staring at you with her wide eyes isn't helping. 'Um... look, Laura. I did... actually catch a name when you were crying just now. You were calling for-'

'Marina, was it?' She slumps against the wall of the shower stall, rubs her face with her hands. You turn on the shower head to rinse the lather off her hair, and that makes her feel better. As she scrubs away, she starts talking. 'Marina's this girl. Classmate of mine. We met at summer camp and hit it off wonderfully. So we do... everything together. We fit perfectly. I hated math. She hated history. So we did each other's homework. We played badminton... ran...'

'That's... lovely.' You already know how this is going to end, but you just watch her washing her long hair.

'Yeah. So we... we went together for another camp. And the thing is, I know she's gay. I know her ex-girlfriends from school, some of them. But I didn't know she... liked me. I was into another guy at the time. And... and she moved on me, right. We kissed... we made out... for a few days. But I couldn't do it. I wasn't into her like that.'

'What happened after?'
>>
'She dropped out of school for two whole months. In fact she just disappeared. School said she went on medical leave, but I know that's bullshit. Or... or maybe it wasn't. Maybe she tried to... kill herself? I don't know. But then she came back... last month... totally different. Spiky blue hair now. Her grades went to hell, she took up with the rough girls, and... yeah, just... not into it anymore, you know?'

You turn off the shower head since she's done. She wipes the water from her face, but water's still dripping. 'I... I don't mean to do this to anyone... I mean, she's awesome! She's awesome... but I said no, and then she does this to herself...'

The guilt radiating from her is enough to kill your arousal for now. You try to tune back out to the dinner people - oh, now it's the washing up already - but it's harder than you think. You're beginning to be drawn, instinctively, to Laura's thoughts... is this normal?

You begin to wonder if you should just mix with Psychs from now on, in a surge of frustration.

> What do/say?
>>
>>19188421
"Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault, I mean she must have known that she can't just turn someone gay like that. I mean, this is probably something that gay people must realize and learn to deal with it.
I guess she couldn't"
>>
>>19188421
"It seems silly to say this... but it's not your fault. Hearts are made to break, and we can't avoid it.
But if you worry about her now, it's understandable too.
Have you tried talking to her again ? Or ever after you said no ?"
>>
>>19188421
Not surprising due to the fact Psyches like to drain from people they know so yeah no big mystery there
>>
>>19188467
She could. She's dealing with it by seeking a thrill outside of romantic affairs.
It's healthy, I think. The time is right for her to try something else. But she should try and learn how to get her kicks and keep control of the rest too.
Maybe Laura should say that to her.
>>
>>19188482
>>19188467

'It's not about her being gay or not gay! It's... I should've told her, from the first kiss, I'm not gay, let's be friends. But... so it went on, one day, two days, it was like four days before I told her. I think that's why she hates me now. I should've just said no. But I didn't know! I didn't know until the next day, I felt nothing, but it felt good when she did it, I just...'

She shakes her head to try and clear it, but it's not helping. Water sprays around the shower. 'Hmm. Have you talked to her after that?'

'I tried to,' she sighs. 'She said to meet her on the top floor of the tower block, near the secret toilet. No one ever goes there. And then... she locked me inside the toilet. No one ever goes up there. I really, really thought I was going to die inside... and a few hours later she opens the door and pulls me out. 'We stay in here all the time,' she tells me. I don't know what she meant. But that scared me so much, I just... I just stayed away.'

> What do/say? You're still mostly dry. Do you want to shower?
>>
>>19188563
"Eh, it's still her fault. You tried something out to see if it works, spend days trying to work out your feelings."
>>
rolled 47 = 47

>>19188563

Let's just shower. This doesn't feel like something we can solve by normal means. Be gentle with her.

Rolling to calm her mentally, unless there is violent objection.
>>
>>19188563
Unless Laura is in the mood, yeah, shower.

I don't know how we can help without going to watch over Marina inside the school.

Maybe advise Laura to write Marina a letter, or a note, saying that she could keep control, and that she's not wasting her future (who cares about that, right ?) but her present, by relying on only one thing to get her through her days.
>>
Say OP i have been meaning to ask this,
you remember that girl we met after escorting Laura to Saffron College?
What was her symbol was supposed to be again?
>>
>>19188645

... sorry, what? Laura's never been to Saffron College with you. Women you know from Saffron are Karen, the law student, and Amanda, the volleyball crutch girl.

> Still open for suggestions!
>>
>>19188607
Don't say it like that. It's no one's fault.

But yeah, say that it probably felt good for Marina at the time too, and that she shouldn't resent Laura for letting her go to the point of enjoyable physical contact. She's just using that as a pretext to be angry, and using her anger to silence the pain of her impossible love.
It's all understandable and acceptable.
>>
>>19188665

You make a mental note to look out, mentally, for Marina if/when you go into the girls' school. This sounds like something to do with your work - someone appears to be truly disturbed. Locking someone into a dark and isolated room for hours isn't really sane behaviour.

Meanwhile, though, you just turn the shower head on, and the two of you wash each other. Laura's mind is still looking and feeling like a dreadful mess, and then suddenly the sound of thunder from outside reverberates within and she jumps a little. 'I think, Laura... I think Marina's probably just angry. Maybe she should be. But I don't think she hates you. It's... hard for her too, right? But she shouldn't be taking it out on you like this, I guess...'

She nods, wordlessly. At length you finish the shower, and get dressed. Laura's still quiet. Then she turns to you. 'You won't hate me if I still say I don't want a relationship now, right? Even after what we did?'

'I won't,' you say, stepping out into the hall. Both of you stare wordlessly at the sight of the storm blowing before you - rain lashing the roofs of buildings, the whistling of wind through every crevice of the penthouse. It's... spectacular. Laura leans into you while she watches. God, she's confused.

> What do for the evening?

> Also, you don't know that girl. She's a prefect at Mayne Parish Girls' School, is all.

>>19188729
"Say laura, are you hungry?"
>>
> Dear god, I'm writing slowly today. Apologies, guys.

Also, meanwhile, the telly's on, though the sound's all been drowned out by the storm. There's a programme on about cults within the City now. That's interesting.

>'Excuse me, what're you doing here?' You turn to see a stern schoolgirl in a uniform with silver lapels, and an eight-point star on her breast pocket. Wait, that sign...
>'Oh. Nothing.'
Enigmatic indeed.
>>
>>19188729
>>19188752
Let's order sushi. We probably never tasted it before, but now we have the money... and that'll be a change from instant noodles.
>>
>>19188757

OH. Are you asking about the eight point star?

You saw it on Laura's uniform as well. She says it's the Seniors' Badge of the school - so they're all seniors. You also saw another badge on her lapel for the orchestra; it seems each club has such a lapel pin.
>>
>>19188785

Let's do this. We've been running around crazily for days, let's have a quiet evening for once.
>>
>>19188729
Is there some board games in this place ?
>>
>>19188729
Well the weather is frankly horrible so we're not going out. Either make something nice or order some food.
>>
>>19188792
It will also give everyone some time to calm down a bit
>>
I say we quietly meditate and train more.
>>
>>19188837
I don't think now's the time. I think we better cuddle with Laura.

Make an effort to drain the neighbours rather than her, though. Can we train that ? So that we can select the people we want to drain, then keep it like that without thinking about it much ?
>>
>>19188877
but she is tasty...
>>
>>19188807

Hmmm... meh, doesn't seem like it. Numsang probably isn't that into board games, or games of any sort.

Oh, speaking of Numsang, Dawn sent you a message reminding you about tomorrow. Yes, Dawn, you won't forget! It's only been a few hours! '... also, terrible thunderstorm isn't it? It's almost like bad things are going to happen...'

> Reply?

>>19188809

>>19188752

'Yeah, actually, quite a bit...' you ask about sushi, trying to sound knowledgeable about it, and Laura perks up. 'I know this joint that does delivery, we order their stuff all the time in the school! We can order online, too, come on...'

Man, Laura is... actually quite posh, you figure. As you sit beside her at the comp, you are treated to a vast array of sushi types, as well as sashimi - what, raw fish? - and donburi and all sorts of other things. Laura's already ticking off some of those things, grinning in excitement. She smells lovely after the shower. Actually, so do you; the wonders of shower gel...

'So, what do you want then?'

> What do? You have no bloody idea. Would you go for raw fish? Pick a few at random? Go for it and order a lot of stuff?
>>
>>19188897
>>19188877
Not really a problem, she wont be staying for more than a couple more days.
>>
>>19188898
"Tell her that we'll take what she takes."
>>
>>19188898
My memory isn't that bad, and the weather doesn't predict future tragedies, that only happens in books.

Let Laura do the picking, we have no clue what we're talking about, bow to her superior knowledge of raw fish. Tell her she smells nice.
>>
>>19188898
Tell her you never really bothered with the names of the various types of sushi, you just call it all sushi.

Ask her for tips / just take whatever she takes
>>
>>19188898
Let her choose for us. Tell her we never had sushi. I don't like shrimp, though.
>>
>>19188919
We could also add we never actually try sushi so she can pick. We just thought it was nice to try something new
>>
>>19188877

You try to, but it still takes conscious effort. The fact that you're interacting, and so closely, doesn't help; once you talk to her you automatically move to her mind, and then start feeding off her thoughts.

Your self control is reasonably high for your level, though, so you don't shut her out too often. Nonetheless, sometimes she stumbles on her sentences, and occasionally she does forget what she was going to say.

Meanwhile, you also ask Laura to put on the news online. NBN news is reporting global riots, as well as someone having run amok in another city and gunning down four people before being killed himself. There's also talk that mental illness and stress are on the rise in the city over the last ten years.
>>
>>19188898
>'... also, terrible thunderstorm isn't it? It's almost like bad things are going to happen...'
Yeah, maybe it's why I feel quite good in the flat tonight...
>>
>>19188945

>>
>>19188945
>You try to, but it still takes conscious effort.

Well then, do that.
That's why I said we should meditate. Try to stop feeding on anyone's thoughts for a while.

'I remember very clearly! Also, weather doesn't determine the future.'

'I know :p I was just being poetic! Chill out, man. Have you been going out and keeping in touch with people?'

'Keeping in touch, yes, going out not really.' Man, you smug little bastard.

'? What, the girl? RESULT!'

Hehehe. Okay, stop being smug now. You look up and Laura's looking at you. 'Who's that?'

'Oh... friend. Also, you know what, I'll take what you have.'

'That's not a manly thing to do, mate,' she says, though she acquiesces. 'Men make their own decisions!'

'Oh, then I decisively don't like shrimp.' You remember the time you ate some shrimp off a salad you picked up, and had diarrhoea for two days. Never again, man, never again. Laura says she'll just take your portion then. 'Also, you smell nice.'

'Oh, you finally figured?' She turns to look at you over her shoulder and smiles. Then she leans into you a little, before moving away, chuckling. Man, for someone so guilty about teasing, she sure teases a lot. You look out at the thunderstorm. You can sense that there are people in the building, children, who are also staring. The rain is bringing out... wonder, memories.

You don't really like rain, though. Well, it's much nicer when it's on the other side of the window, that's true.

Soon the sushi comes, from a drenched guy. The bill comes up to $48.50; how much did Laura order?! 'I'll pay for it!' Laura's voice comes from behind.

> What do/say?
>>
>>19188945
What does Laura think about the riots ?
I like to talk politics with the girls I have casual sex with. It feels revolutionnary.
>>
>>19189009

> Actually, damn, you're right. I might be trying too hard to put events in. But then this is your first weekend day, so it might be intensive.

> Tomorrow you've just got lunch with Numsang, so things should clear up and allow more of your initiative. I hope people don't mind?
>>
>>19189067
Insist on paying for at the very least half, and give the poor guy a generous tip.

Eat sushi with Laura, feed each other and talk weather and riots. It'll be fun.
>>
>>19189085
Well, technically, everything we do is an "event", so thats not a problem at all.

Although our protagonist has had a ridiculously hectic week. A few days to calm down, work out and meditate, and get to know new people / get to know some people more would be nice.
>>
>>19189067
This >>19189107.
>>19189085
Well I'm having fun anyway.
>>
>>19189067
Let her pay for it, we have been letting her stay here for the week after all.

But pay the tips yourself.
>>
>>19189067
Poor guy, deserves a tip
>>
>>19189186
Sure I can agree with that
>>
>>19189071
>>19189107

You insist on coming up with $30 yourself, and Laura gives another $30. You are slightly flabbergasted when Laura says to keep the change, but then you realise - yeah, the guy did probably cycle through the thunderstorm to bring the stuff here. Oh well. You could do delivery boy work, actually...

Or is that not ambitious enough?

The two of you sit down and eat the sushi. You've never had this before. Circular rolls, rice cakes with raw fish and omelettes on them... oooh, the egg ones aren't bad. The pink fish, salmon, that one's pretty good too. With your reading skills you manage to figure out the procedure for eating this, soy sauce and wasabi, so you don't look like a fool- FUCK, WASABI!

Laura runs off to the kitchen to get you water. 'Man, watch the wasabi!'

'Hehe, haha, yeahhhhh I will...' well, that was embarrassing. You ask Laura about the riots, and she shrugs.

'I know my parents would tell them to go get a job and shut up. And I guess I think so too, a bit. I mean, if you don't have work, go find it, right? But I guess it must be tough to have tuition fees triple, and to have benefits cut, if you're... a single mother, or something.'
>>
She then tells you about her volunteer work. She's been to Cambodia to help build a primary school, though she fell sick a few days in from drinking the water.

'Wow. Where else did you travel?'

The list is long - Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, Dubai, most of Europe... you don't even know half of these places on the map. Man, she's out of your league isn't she... 'I love thunderstorms, by the way! Everyone likes the summer sun, but I love summer because it's thunderstorm season. The sun's fine, but whatever...'

You chat a bit more, then she turns to you and you feel her curiosity. 'Dylan, be honest. You aren't a high school student, are you? I didn't see a uniform or anything in your room.'

'Uh...' you pause with a tamago sushi in your hand, and then Laura turns in the couch and places her legs on your lap. You don't have to be a Psych to influence people, it seems!

> What do/say? Also, a few days of rest is always good - it's up to you, really. You're free in the Free Comm, and you can go most places within the city if you like.
>>
>>19189281

Yeah, I think after meeting Numsang we ought to take a few days off. Do our girls' school work, but also go round the city... or maybe go to college and get to know more people.
How do people get more friends here, man? We're a hobo, we don't know these things.
>>
>>19189281
Eat the piece of sushi in our hand.

Not in the least, if you look the part people don't really question it. Dropped out a while ago and spent some time on the streets, long story I'd rather not get into.
>>
>>19189281
Tell her almost the truth.

We were a hobo only a few days ago, then a group of rich people decided, apparently at random, to get us off the street and into this place, expecting us to get a life.
It's surprising how little we questionned their generosity.

But well, we're warm, fed with good stuff, and we met good people...
>>
>>19189281
Did we ever tell her we are a highschool student?

Weren't we trying to enroll in college?
>>
>>19189345
>>19189281
It's like we ever said we were high school students so I don't see a real dilemma here so I guess I second what this guy said
>>
>>19189350
We could say extended family tracked us down and got us back on our feet. Something like that, a bit like the truth and not quite as odd an event as random rich people falling from the sky giving you money.
>>
>>19189356
Wow I fuck that up I mean to say we never said we were high school students
>>
>>19189345
>>19189366
I guess we could combine these two together if we need to
>>
>>19189281
Well no, I never did say that though, did I?
I had a pretty weird past, so Im not in school right now.

Add that we are going to join the school once you get your papers ready, etc.
>>
>>19189353
I think we did. And we are.
>>

You pop the sushi into your mouth. She looks at you expectantly. 'I never told you I was a high school student, did I?'

'Hmm? Well no... but you kinda looked like one. Though this penthouse didn't fit that, it's true... but then, you know, some people... anyway. So...?'

'Well. I dropped out and spent a bit of time in the streets. A year... a year and a half, actually.' You glance at her; her mood has changed, rather, become more ambivalent. 'Then some extended family found me - just two weeks ago, actually - and... I got put here. It's the flat of a cousin of mine.'

'I... I see... man, that sounds really rough! Isn't it dangerous living out in the streets? Were you just sleeping in the open? Like a hobo-' she catches herself. 'Sorry.'

'Nah, no worries. I was a hobo, literally, so yeah.' You don't really know where to put your hands, so you take another piece of sushi before seeing it's shrimp. You feed it to Laura, who giggles and thanks you, her legs moving. 'So now... I guess I'm going to college.'

'Taking the exams? Man, there are tuition groups and things like that for people who take the standard exams, you know... what other plans do you have then? Do you actually want to go to college?'

> What do/say?
>>
>>19189459
I admit my plans for the future are rather nebulous, it takes a while to get used to normal life again. Currently I'm getting stuff in order, going to start that to get working on getting a proper education and see where I go from there. I haven't planned more than a week ahead for over a year, hard habit to change.

Continue to feed each other sushi and enjoy her company.
>>
>>19189459

'Man, I don't really know. What do people do at this age? I just thought of college... maybe find a job?'
>>
>>19189459
It's...Confusing
We just got out of the streets so a lot of things just seen strange for me.
We're trying everything that may help us
We are even tried painting
>>
>>19189541

Don't forget to add that you're a decent painter.
>>
>>19189459
I guess I'd prefer to live a grand adventure... but I don't really know where to start something like that, so I'll try college.

I don't know if it's right, but it's something of a scam, really. I think my cousin will be willing to pay college for me if I get in, but I'm not really doing it to get a higher-paying job, or a professional training, like the guys who criticize the protesters expect students to. What I want, mostly, is education in a few interesting fields, and young people around me.
>>
>>19189578
"what about you, by the way ?"
>>
>>19189530
>>19189532
>>19189541

You laugh awkwardly and scratch your head. 'Well... to be honest, I hardly plan for the week ahead, much less the year. You know, habits of a hobo. I really am not sure. I'll need to catch up on education, I reckon... as for other things I took up drawing... well, took up a little bit.'

'Well, if you need any help catching up on education, you could always get to know more students round here. Mayne Parish is full of stuck up bitches though, but some are nice, like...' you feel a stab, then the fog recurs for a moment before she clears it. 'You like drawing? I know someone who likes drawing in my class too.'

You suddenly sense, from her thoughts, someone emanating a signature you've felt before. 'Oh?'

'Yeah. Her name's Lynn. She's, like, into everything. Head of Art Club, cello in orchestra, does calligraphy and is in the English Society as well, she's crazy good.' Blimey, you think. That might explain the blinding flashes of light you sensed from her before, at the shopping mall...

You go on eating, talking about making friends and all that. You realise Laura, after sex, somehow appears to be more... open. It's as if she's confirmed something and walked out of a shadow; you savour the feeling of her relief, her newfound ease. And you're also aware of her, yet again feeling the need. Glancing at the clock, you see it's 9:30.

'You need a watch, Dylan. You also need a uPlay, I think, for music. And a Gii, to play games with. Or a Playbox 3DX...' you get distracted by that, and then your proprioception sense snaps back and you sense her taking the salmon off a plate, dangling it beside your head.

> What do/say?
>>
>>19189578
>>19189613

'There's nothing wrong with wanting that, I guess...' she mutters. 'I know some people who say they want to just go to university and stay there forever. Maybe take, like, ten degrees. Well, they're filthy rich of course, but there you are.'

She's silent about her own future plans, and you sense she's just as muddled. Well, who isn't at seventeen...
>>
>>19189654
Turn our head to the side and open our mouth, let her feed us and kiss her fingers.

I should get a watch. I'll take getting various gadgets slowly though, don't want to end up drowned under a flood of new technology I don't understand that keeps me in my room all day.
>>
>>19189654
Eat the salmon. Or lick her fingers.
>>
>>19189654
"What are those alien words you are sputtering?"
>>
>>19189701
We already got a cellphone, we should just get used to look at the time on that.
We haven't got much money yet, no need to buy unecessary things. We can play on the computer, too. And probably play music on our phone, but some kind of mp3 should be useful. Just don't buy things from that overpriced, fashionable brand.

How much money is the Com giving us, again ?
>>
>>19189763

Weekly allowance of $100. It's not much, but that's the point.

>>19189708

'... Um, huh?'

'Oh...' don't fake it, Dylan, you know exactly what a Gii is. You played it the other day, remember? uPlay is this tiny music player, that stuff with earphones. And a Playbox 3DX is another console, like the Gii. 'It's much more powerful, though. Rita's got one in her flat, we used to call it Joe 2, because Joe is Rita's boyfriend but she really got addicted to the games. But then Joe got addicted even more, so we started calling it Rita 2!'

'That sounds like too much technology for my brain to handle,' you say. 'I'd better take it one step at a time. Maybe I'll start with a watch, a watch isn't very distracting is it?'

She giggles at your joke, but even then her fingers are moving, keeping the salmon just out of reach of your mouth. Then she moves away from you on the couch and sits cross-legged, placing the salmon on her thigh. What, again?

'It's going to get warm soon,' she murmurs. 'It's not as nice when it's warm.'

> What do? It's 10 pm now. The thunderstorm shows no signs of abating.

> 68 + 12: good for you.

You open your eyes to the half dawn, shivering slightly with the cold. Rain is still tapping, half-heartedly, at the windows. You're in bed, and Laura's not with you.

Where'd Laura go? You get up and go out into the hall, to see her sprawled on the floor face down, next to the couch, with her tank top covering her bottom. Oh man, she's going to catch a cold or something like this...

Just then, your still half-awake sense feels a Psych presence outside the building. It's in a car, slowing down and then stopping in front of the building; and then you realise it's two Psychs. One of them is Dawn - she's the one entering the lift lobby.

Oh blimey. You go over to Laura. 'Laura?'

'Huhbuh?' She looks up, then winces in pain and flops down again. 'I... oh god oww my leg!'

You look down to see her left foot, the bandage fallen off, twitching. Is it a seizure from your... interactions? Argh!

'Can you feel your left leg, Laura?'

'Um... yeah, it's twitching.' Oh boy. 'Why the panic? You look terrified.'

You're just about to explain when the doorbell rings, and Laura quickly puts on a t-shirt and pushes you away to put on her shorts. 'Who's that?'

'Oh, it's-'

'Go get it!'

You go get it, and Dawn is there, her eyes narrowed and a smile on her face. 'Good morning, you.'

'Um... why that look?'

'What, you think I can't tell there's someone else in the house?' She frowns, and shoves a McEvel's Bulging Breakfast Box at you before coming in. 'Did you... use protection?'

'Um...'

'Oh man, make it a habit!' She sighs. She's carrying a folder, and looks around the flat. 'Also, be careful of staining anything, okay? Numsang doesn't like it.'

Man, this is awkward. You know Laura is hiding under the sheets in her room, but you're sure Dawn knows that too.

'Make yourself at home,' you say, waving to the couch. You notice there's a puddle of drool there, oh dear. Dawn gets some tissues and wipes it, then takes out a pile of papers and puts them on the coffee table. 'Who was that other Psych? Whom you came here with?'

'Hmm? Oh, you sensed him! That's... impressive. That's Franck.' Oh, the boyfriend. That makes sense...

You go into the room, to see Laura's foot already bandaged. She's done a reasonable imitation of what you did, and she's looking at you. 'Who's that?'

'Family friend. Would you like to...' Laura shrugs, and goes out. Dawn shakes her hand, notices her foot and fusses about it for a little while. 'I've got breakfast for you too, actually,' she says, and then turns to you and winks. 'Resuuuuult! She's hot.'

'Oh for...' you groan, and go get your breakfast on a plate. Sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, and all that. Nice.

>>
>>19190261

'Hmm? What... what'd you do?'

'Oh, nothing, it's just...' you gesture at Laura's foot.

'Aww. That's sweet. Well, at your current level, I think you're best off practicing mental anaesthesia, or maybe convincing someone they're healing faster. Positive thinking and all that.'

'And actual healing?'

'That's possible, but it takes years to practice. I've been trying, mind you, but I'm not all that good at it...'
>>
>>19190301
You are forgiven for commenting so much on the woman I just slept with because you brought me food.

So Franck not coming in? It'd be nice to meet him.

If we get a chance for a private talk with Dawn give her the gist of the Laura story, with emphasis on the weird shared dream thingy and the twitching foot, get some insight.
>>

>>

'Franck? Oh, he's got work to do...' Dawn shrugs. 'He's from Summer. Summers are very busy people.'

Laura takes her breakfast into the room, which seems a bit antisocial of her until Dawn winks at you. 'You wanted to tell me something.'

Of course, Dawn already knows about Laura - you've had to inform her, given how you got her back in the flat and the fact that the flat is Dawn's responsibility. You tell her about the shared dream, and Marina, and she sounds rather concerned.

'That's potentially serious,' she says. 'You told Kevin yet?'

'Not really, no.'

'Well, why didn't you? I'll pass it on to him. We're already suspecting that the incipient Creation might be a multi-source thing, which is no surprise, but we do need to identify the sources so we can catch the Creation quickly.'

You then ask about the papers on the coffee table, and look at some of them. They look like... application forms? 'Huh. These are for college?'

'Well, this one first.' Dawn shows you a file with several sheets of paper in them. 'This one's the application form for the standard exams. I got an acquaintance to ease the process along, so it'll be done in a jiffy.' You sign the papers after scanning them. 'As for those, well, those are just college prospectuses and the like. I guess it's nice for you to see what sort of course you want to do, first, before settling on a college. If you like things like humanities and social sciences, well you're right next to a good school, so that's peachy!'

I planned to get into the school and take a look at Marina directly before telling Kevin... Laura doesn't really want to approach her anymore.
>>
>>19190460
It happened yesterday, I didn't get much of a chance. Also I was planning on looking up Marina before I did much with this.

Man choosing a career and a major is hard. I'm guessing something humanities or social sciences related, maybe I'll become a teacher.
>>
>>19190460

We're good at art, might want to look into that.
Ask Dawn if Kevin knows anything more about what to look for. We intend to sneak into the school to check it tomorrow, so we need to know.
>>
>>19190460
>social sciences

Yes, yes, yeeeeees...

Psychology sounds awesome.
With a side of art.
>>

Psychology, fuck yeah!

Art has pretty much been decided now, right?

'Well, you could still have told Kevin... that wouldn't prevent you from checking Marina out. But are you sure about sneaking into school? I mean, it's a girls' school, you'd stick out.'

You talk about using Obfuscate, and she nods. 'Well, just be careful, eh? I think Kev is probably looking for rage now - I think we have a potentially dangerous case on our hands. Rage... or high stress over some sort of threat, that sort of thing.'

'Makes sense. I'll keep that in mind.'

Dawn grins, and keeps the folder. You talk about art, and possibly psychology, and she nods. 'Well, that's possible. I think Saffron's got a sociology and psychology course, you can check that out. And they've got art too.'

With that, she gets ready to go. 'Have to go and get some work done,' she sighs. 'Jinyu is a tyrannical boss. Oh, why do I spend my days in the company of Summers?'

> Anything else do/say?
> Also, practicing anaesthesia is no more/less risky than what you've been doing.
>>
Oh yes, also, if you're doing art and psych/soc... Dawn looks through the subject lists for the standard exams.

'You'll need to do one math paper, one language paper, and one humanities paper. And then there's two free options... you sure you can keep up with the studying? Or is that what your girlfriend's for as well? I'm warning you, don't build a harem in this flat. Actually, don't you build a harem anywhere. No offence, but you'd likely mess it up, and I don't want to clear up those messes.'
>>
>>19190578
No, that's all. Go ask Laura if she's on the pill.
>>
>>19190578
>But are you sure about sneaking into school? I mean, it's a girls' school, you'd stick out.'

She has a point? Why are we bothering with this?
Let Kev handle it, we have enough on our platter already anyway
>>

>>
>>19190597
Well, I've got no idea, but I'll try and see. Nothing else to do xept lying around or training to work with you.
Also, she's just a friend as far as I know.
>>
... we aren't actually going to have a frequent sexual relationship with Laura, are we?

I mean, we've been through this, it's way too big a risk. We're not prepared. And probably neither is Laura.

Please, guys, don't waifu every girl who accepts advances.
>>
>>19190612
It looks like something amusing to do to me. We may be able to help Laura too, and with a little luck find out some more pressing cases than Marina.
What else would you want to do on a Monday ?
>>
>>19190636
I thought we were gonna keep her as a fuckbuddy.

What kind of risks are you thinking of ?
>>
>>19190612

Well, Kevin did ask you to keep an eye out since you happen to live nearby. It's up to you if you don't want to do the job, but you should inform Dawn or Kevin if that's the case.

>>19190629
>>19190599

'Well, you're not going to be sitting around studying all day as well, are you? You've got Psychs and people to meet, probably a job to do if you're getting income... well, tell me if you need any help about those things.'

And with that she waltzes out. You eat the breakfast quietly, enjoying what has gone from thunderstorm to drizzle. When Laura comes out, you ask if she's on the pill.

'Um... yeah...' she scratches her head. She seems a lot more awkward today, hobbling over to put the plate in the dishwasher.

> So, what do? Your morning's free. You can arrange meetings via your cell phone, by the way.
>>
>>19190612
Do we even have to sneak in? Can't we just use our power from a distance?
>>
>>19190674

Have you read any of the previous threads? We are mind-vampires, subsisting off the thoughts and emotions of other people, and we haven't a very good handle on our draining instinct.

The last time we had sex with someone, we knocked her unconscious for a day. Even now, Laura gets leg cramps and all that. Do you really want to get people killed?
>>
>>19190678

You can sense at a distance, and filter out voices easily. But that would be like finding a needle in a haystack. The farther you are from a source of thought, the less defined those thoughts tend to be.
>>
>>19190676
I've got psychs to meet ? Who ?

What to do of a sunday morning... I'm fed, not sleepy, the outside is probably still humid and cold from the rain, I've got a computer and a fuckfriend.
What to do, what to do...
>>
>>19190696
This is also the reason why I don't want to sneak in the school.
We would be relying too much on our powers which are really unreliable for this to work.
>>
>>19190696
I've read it all, and you're exaggerating. We are mind vampires, but we don't put an unsustainable drain on whoever lives with us. We improved a lot regarding sex, and making someone's leg twitchy isn't really comparable to killing people.

Plus, we need someone to train with, unless you plan not to get our powers under control. Laura enjoys our company a lot more than she suffers from its side-effects, so it's all good.

The only real risks in this relationship are sentimental ones.
>>
>>19190719

Well, for a start, there's Numsang. Also, Dawn is talking generally. Pay attention. You're in a community of Psychs now.

Whether or not you sneak around into the school, that'd be happening (or not happening) tomorrow. It is rather true that sneaking is really risky. Even with your current Obfuscate, there would be rather too many pairs of eyes for comfort.

Still, if not that, you wonder what else you could do to do your spying work... that girl with the flashes of brilliant light, Lynn, also intrigues you.

> So. What do? If nothing, I'm going off to bed.
>>
>>19190729
I'm pretty sure our obfuscation is almost fool proof. But if you don't believe, we can just try it again before we do it.
>>
I always thought that sneaking thing was a joke. Seriously, what the hell do we expect to get out of it?
>>
rolled 52 = 52

>>19190770
There's nothing much to do. Ask Laura if she wants to check whether her pill is really effective, or do something else.
If not, go outside and train our Influence Sound and Sight. Let's try to appear as an old cat lady, surrounded by a few of her pets. Have them run between people's legs.
>>
>>19190770
We could always just go when the school is closing so when the girls leave we can check there minds up close. Better than sneaking in and they will come to us. We could also check for any specific people if we need to.
>>
>>19190806
What's with you and the pill?
>>
rolled 97 = 97

>>19190816
Nothing. It's just that the last thing we said was about the pill, so following up on that makes asking for sex less awkward. Maybe.
Mentioning twice doesn't make it an obsession, I think.
>>
>>19190835
Eh true but if someone was asking for sex when my foot was all sort of fuck up and we just did it lat night I would just say no
>>
>>19190806

Laura says she'd like to rest for today. She seems strangely cold, compared to yesterday - even when Dawn isn't influencing her into staying in the room.

It seems odd, and more than a little disheartening. You try to read her, but there's now a fog again, and this time it seems to be deliberate, an attempt to keep you out, to be lost in her own world.

> 52: mild failure

Perhaps it's this sudden turn of events, but in your slightly disappointed state you don't really apply yourself to the illusion. The cats seem to appear to you, and several times you catch children glancing in your direction, as if intrigued by your appearance. But you are allowed into the no-pets shopping mall without issue by the security guard; Resno doesn't stop you either.

You sit down at the Resno bistro and scan around the customers; there aren't that many of them, which only makes your mind even more empty and tired, and the people who are around pay you rather little heed. Once a 'cat' you send licks someone's heel, and for a moment the guy twitches in his sandals; but nothing more comes of it.

Argh, it'd be nice to get Laura excited again and feed off her... oh shit, you're not getting dependent on her, are you?

>>
>>19190865

Might be a mistake to open with a sex scene, yes. Will tone it down.

This quest is also going to be driven a lot by initiative, though - I could have a lot of people poke Dylan and ask him to do things, or do things to him, but if that's not desirable (which I don't think it always is) then one had best find their own diversions for him. Find activities, get in touch with people, live his own life, etc.

>>19190909

> 96: critical success!

You don't really feel like trying again, to be honest - the shopping mall is quiet, and there isn't that much for you to feed off. But damn if you aren't going to do something. Maybe not illusions, today...

Instead, you try to train for your obfuscation. You've so far focused on keeping your own emanations and presence smaller, but now you try and tweak other people's perceptions, actively turning them away from noticing you. It's not very hard right now, when there are fewer people in the mall.

You focus on a shopkeeper, then draw his gaze to the roof where rainwater is flowing down the glass in sheets. The girl at the perfume counter doesn't so much as glance at you as you enter the shop, look around.

Then you walk into another shop, selling video games, clapping your hands as you enter. Clap, clap, clap. One or two of the patrons glance at you, but quickly look away. The shopkeeper pays you absolutely no heed until you turn off your obfuscation.

'Oh... can I help you?'

'I'm fine, just looking.'

Damn, you could... you could actually steal stuff with this skill...

> You gain 2 points in Obfuscation! 1 point left to Obf 5.

>>
Oh, also, while you're in the game shop, you do check out the Gii and the Playbox 3DX. They're going for $350 and $550, respectively. Apparently that includes three games you can choose, too.

Money:

> $1,180 in bank, $187 in hand
>>
rolled 89 = 89

>>19190968
If we're to steal games, we might as well download them. And we can't realy obfuscate the game's magnetic thingy.

But I think we could train a little more. Try to have people's attention go to something else entirely.
Maybe we could work an illusion together with obfuscation for that effect.
>>
>>19190968
Yeah we shouldn't steal. Ignoring that it's wrong it dumb due to alarms. We can trick the mind not the machine just buy the games. Now what do we want to get if anything?

> 89, 80: success!

You decide against stealing, though in a moment of mischief you consider making people believe that someone else is stealing. Well, let's not.

Instead, you try to test the range of your illusion ability, and consider a pigeon flying into the shopping mall, flitting up and down the main aisle. You can feel people's attentions being drawn to that, though the effects are mostly too temporary to distract them from you directly.

Not that you need it; you walk out the shop without anyone saying goodbye, and do that again to several shops. At one stall selling scarves you actually startled the boss by de-obfuscating in front of him.

'Um... would you like to get any scarves, sir!?'

'Oh, no, just looking. Cheers.'

> You now have Obf 5!
> You now have ISS 1!

You get an ice cream from the ice cream shop, after temporarily confusing the waitress as to your whereabouts, and then go to sit down outside the food court. There are a few people inside, studying and discussing, and you feel a little of that buzz you got from Saffron College, of intellectual activity. Mental fuel. It's a nice feeling.

The cinema's also open, and just as you're looking at the films - Battlecruiser 2! War of the Warbots 5 - Warbots of Warria! and so on - you can feel the presence of that Lynn girl, a flash of light marking her presence. She's with another two or three people, upstairs near the cinema.

Everyone else ? You mean Dawn ?
Well, honestly, I'm not too hot on that, unless we manage to find something particularily interesting. If the only point of the job is getting money, we should avoid it, now that we have the power to.

And thinking aout it, we already had the power to avoid that situation when we were just a hobo. That's why we were a hobo.
>>
>>19191051

> Be glad you didn't specify a purpose for that role, mate. Also, be glad it's a lazy Sunday and you're not fuelled up enough to unleash your powers too strongly!

Well, as for things to do... you do know where the casinos are if you're into that, and as for chess, you don't really know how to play, though the mind-reading would help. The temp job agency in the shopping mall isn't much help - it's mostly supermarket shelf-stacking, waitering in restaurants, driving trucks... hmm.

Maybe studying might be the best way out, after all.

Those girls... you finish your ice cream and go upstairs, sitting near the window and watching the rain fall while you try to listen in on them. There are three girls, and unlike that crowd Laura was first with, all three of them feel highly intelligent.

It's a nice feeling, but it also means their minds are alert, and while they do not consciously feel it, they defend themselves quite adequately. You try to read them gently, but they resist; and when you try to add a little more pressure, a sudden flash of light from Lynn - which in the real world is backed up by gasps and exclamations of approval from the other two girls - makes you flinch. You even hear a residual humming in your ears for some seconds.
>>
>>19191277

> 94 vs. 72: success!

Nonetheless, you persist. You know that you can easily beat them, but that could hurt them physically, so instead you remain patient and soon, as they are distracted, you gain entry to their thoughts.

Huh. They're talking about the Summer Fair - a large festival held by Mayne Parish, and another two private schools, in two weeks' time. It seems emergency planning is going on, and the Art Club is going to be heavily involved. This time you're ready for another flash, and you can hear what brought that about.

'We shouldn't stop at just a nice mural, we'll have to make a proper installation! Oh yes, let's use the bull we were making in art club and adapt it!' In the moment you hear it, you can see the bull, made of fiberglass; you can see the addition of wings, of new paint, an entire plan to turn a piece of half-done art into a central exhibit.

So that's what the flash is - inspiration.

You bask in that for a bit, and then sense them about to leave.

Oh, your 97 was taken as a background roll - I don't normally waste nice rolls like these. They don't show up in events, but in the general trend of how things go.

The discrepancy in the roll is partly because of your weak skill so far in ISS, and because, in-game, you thought it best not to create a more distracting illusion. You could, technically, picture a cat on fire running down the aisle while screaming; that'd certainly take everyone's eyes off you. But it'd also cause a lot of distress, which isn't nice.

You attempt to push into Lynn's mind, and feel a surprising resistance from her. Turning to glance at her, you see that she has become consciously aware now, though she does not know it's you; her hands stop gesticulating, her head perks up and she's looking around.

'What's up, Lynn?'

'Eh? Nothing...'

But in that moment of distraction you've gained entry into her mind. There is always some push back, but this time round it feels like walking into a gale. You flinch, reach for the tea you got, and just as you close your hand around it you are suddenly aware that Lynn is staring at you, and something - words - are coming out of her mouth.

'You did the work, didn't you? You did the work as you were told?'

What?

'Look, this is drivel! This is all crap! You're fucking useless! And I mean that literally! You can't make stuff, you can't design, you can't even fuck-'

Your eyes open, and you are only vaguely aware of your left hand feeling a little itchy as you turn to look at Lynn. She's crouched on her chair now, and the other two girls are shaking her, as if attempting to wake her from a trance. 'Lynn? Lynn! Lynn! HELP! HEELP! SOMETHING'S HAPPENED!' You look around, but no one comes to help. The voices echo terribly in your head.

'I can design. And I can fuck! I can fuck like a tiger on steroids! Fuck off!'

You can only stare, wide-eyed. Someone is beating a drum, right next to your ears, out of synch with your own heartbeat.

Lynn is standing, and touching herself with one hand. From the other hand there is music, loud and discordant and bellowing, and strange forms, words you've never seen before. Chinese script or something like that? They merge into tigers, then dogs, baying at you.

A storm is blowing outside. You feel your feet being clamped to the floor yourself. You look down; they are heavy, it is impossible to move them. Above you the ceiling has faded into purple night, and the storm is upon you. To your horror, you see fire beginning to rain down, oh fuck no, of all things-

The gale overwhelms you. You try to stand up, and fall off the chair, tossed like a ragdoll upon a sea of troubles. When you finally come to, you see Lynn, her friends - oh, and the other ten or so people in the cafe - looking at you, and your red, badly scalded hand. Ohhhh fuck. Oh fuck! It hurts!

'Y'all right?' Lynn runs over.

> 92: Well, at least you won't hurt anyone else in the process.

Oww, oww, OWW. Fuck! Shit! Bollocks! You focus your mind on it, though it is still straining with the influx of strange ideas - you swear you saw a bandage wrap around your arm, made of parchment, before dissolving into dandelions. As you force your hand into numbness, you feel your ears scream and whine and hurt. Hadn't noticed that while your hand was scalded, probably...

'Y'all right?' The other girls help you to your feet.

'Um... I think I've scalded my hand,' you say, holding it. The skin is red and raw. 'Quite badly.'

'I... think so too, man.' Lynn quickly drags you to the counter and asks to use the sink, where she puts your hand under the freezing cold water. Oh great. You've numbed your hand, and now you're freezing it. You can't really feel the whole of your left forearm anymore.

> You've gained Anaesthesia 1!

'Are you going to be fine?' Lynn then says, walking off. She clearly does not mean for this to be answered. You can tell she suspects that you've been looking at her - well, she probably suspects you've been ogling her, rather than digging at her brains.

> Do/say anything?

>>19191558
This, but be a little more subtle about it. She comes to us because we're screaming and all, not because she wants to flirt.
There's got to be a pause between the two moments or she'll think we're crass or desperate.
>>
>>19191617
I have no idea

say did we meet before?
>>
>>19191617
"Yeah I'm gonna be fine" then fucking get out of there and call Kevin he has to know. I don't want to end up like this >>19191590
>>
>>19191617
"Yes, yes, I'll be fine."

We need to apply some ointments or whatever on it.
>>
>>19191617
Are we going to be fine ? I'd stay and talk her up, but I'm a little worried about my hand. Maybe we could use a run to a pharmacy or someplace where people offer proper care for this kind of burn.
Does it look really bad ?

Maybe this first contact is enough, and we'll be able to get closer to her on another occasion.
>>
>>19191617
Stay, talk to her. Tell her we're going to be fine. Thank her for helping us. Ask her name and give ours.
>>
>>19191683
>People complain to much sex. Tries to hook up with another girl.

I mean, IIRC, Keima would advise not to try too hard on the first event.

You are really not in the mood to flirt right now, even if Lynn's mind appears to be rich. Frightfully rich. Instead you just say 'Yeah, yeah, I'm okay,' and she nods.

'Take care then.'

'Yeah, cheers...' and they're gone. You take your hand out after a few minutes; the whole arm is rather stiff now, and you have to use your other hand to help. Dear god, that was... insane. You have the feeling that powerfully creative types probably all have minds like that - surging and yet insecure...

Oh, also, your cell phone just beeped. It's a number you don't recognise.

'Hello. Numsang here. Meet earlier? Want brunch? 10.30?'

Oh hell, it's 9.15 now!

> What do/say? OKAY THIS ONE WILL BE FOR LAST POST

I've got a thing for girls that provoke wild hallucinations in me.
>>
>>19191718
yeah

make sure to treat and bandage our hand first
>>
>>19191718
Sure
Now lets run back home
>>
>>19191718
She's creative enough to induce powerful hallucinations in us, that's pretty boss. We'll have to get in contact with her.

Sure, brunch sounds good. Get home, put some ointment and bandages on the hand and prepare for some fancy brunch.
>>
>>19191718
Ask where at is it at the same spot
>>
> To the people who are trying to flirt with Lynn now: Please put your hand in a cup of boiling tea and go out to get laid now. After waking from a lucid nightmare. Which heavily features girl you wish to get laid with.

> I said Psychs often lose some of their humanity, but for the love of the Bestowers, don't turn Dylan into a walking penis with remote prostate gland controls. Pretty please?

> Also hope people don't think this is too heavy-handed railroading? I think events have shown I'm fine with sex, just not with EVERY ENCOUNTER
>>
>>19191765
I don't want to sleep with her, I want to pick her brains. It isn't often that you run into a fucking walking buffet. I doubt we'd even make that big a dent if we were careful.
>>
Call kevin, but don't leave Lynn either.
Call me crazy, but I think we may have just seen a psych manifesting, and we'll need her roped in before she fucks the lights out of some unfortunate shmuck - which seems fairly likely at this point.

>monarchie sfojour
No, FreeComm is not a monarchy captcha.
>>
>>19191718
Yeah, brunch is fine. Call Kevin on the way.

>>19191765
I don't think anyone seriously considered flirting. Just trying to establish some sort of acquaintance, because it's obvious that girl could be important to us... even without sex.
It's just that it starts the same way.
>>
>>19191765
Thank you for that I was afraid people would go after her. Especially after complaining about the sex. *I hate capcha
>>
>>19191792
I was thinking she was the center of a Creation Problem so call Kevin that isn't normal as least on what we saw so far

'Okay sure', you type with one hand. Then you rush back to the flat.

Laura's sitting there, watching TV, and she turns back and notices your hand. 'Woah, what happened there?'

'Yeah, uh, dropped tea on my hand,' you say, digging around in the cabinet for creams and bandages. Laura nudges your hand away and takes the stuff out.

'What, got distracted? Was there a stripper in the mall?' She grins, as she dabs at your hand. You should be flinching, but your anaesthesia is still making your hand both insensate and rather stiff. Then she wraps it up with the bandage, a little too tightly, but oh well...

You smile awkwardly and find yourself basking in the soft light of Laura's mind - or at least that's how it feels to you. Man, you could sit and watch TV with her all day, just feeding off her. In fact that's what you do for an hour, until Numsang texts you to say she's downstairs.

Going downstairs, you see a long-haired Thai woman in a suit - a suit on Sunday? - sitting in a black Ramborzini four seater. Damn, that's a sleek looking luxury car! 'Dylan?'

'Ah, yeah.'

'Hop in, and tell me about that hand.'

> Okay, let's end it here. Thanks guys for playing! Next session will be announced on Twitter.
> If you have any suggestions, or longer-term plans for what Dylan would like to do, post them up. This quest thrives on initiative. It's like that game, you know, Grand Theft Psycho.

> I do beg your pardon if I've misread your intentions. That's fair enough, I guess!

> I shan't do too much preachy 'nosexallowed', so I guess just take note that there will be consequences for many acts, and that includes sex. Keeps with the game's tone, that's for sure.

Well for infiltrating Mayne Parish we just get a belt with things that look like electronics gear and say someone said the AC was on the fritz, we won't even need mind power. That or a mop, nobody ever bothers the man wearing a baseball cap and mopping the floors.

Moneywise I'm trying to think of something lucrative, in our skill set and not particularly morally objectionable. If we toss out the moral bit it's dead easy, with our obfuscate we could pickpocket anyone and do other things with our mind powers. Once we build up a nest egg playing the stocks would work but that's far far in the future. We're a pretty good artist, but it's difficult to make money off that and I'd rather not influence people with our brain to make them buy stuff. If we get good at playing the piano we could find a nice bar that needs a pianist for a bit of money, and soak in the atmosphere.

I'd rather stay away from drugs and the like, risky as hell and just not worth it. Ask other Psychs what they do for money.

I'm not sure that private girl schools employ cleaning men when they could get women.
