elegan/tg/entlemen: I propose a theory. Sperm whales are actually much smarter then we know and they are currently the sole defenders of this planet from an enemy of untold magnitude.>Hmmmm, Interesting. Tell me more.Well, as far as we know Sperm whales have the largest brains of any other mammal ever.(wweighing 18lbs.) On top of this they exhibit strange behavior that we can only speculate about.First male sperms whales between the ages of 4-21 break off and form "bachelor pods". I believe these bachelor pods are squads. These are the basic line troopers while the females perform the logistics operations. As adult males grow older they start plying the ocean in solitude. This is because they've reached a command level and high combat skill. They ply the oceans alone shoring up defenses where its needed most while keeping an eye on the bigger picture."Mature males have beached themselves together, suggesting a degree of cooperation which is not yet fully understood." This is when events are becoming dire enough hey try and send a message to us for subsurface reinforcements and to wan of the invasion.thoughts /tg/? What do you think they're fighting? What equipment do they use?(weapons armor and the like)
don't those bachelor pods gang rape female whales?
>>19168414nope. reproduction is based on male hierarchies and female choice. Though there is the possibility that some have gone mad from the fighting and turned traitor?
>What equipment do they use?(weapons armor and the like)Obviously they're just big whale mecha suits for dolphins or something.
>>19168619>Dolphins>Stout Defenders of ANYTHINGNope.
Oh boy. In before Welcome To The Machine.
>>19168619That would be pretty badass. They dive down, suit up and commence fighting.>>19168799I could maybe MAYBE see dolphins being like the intelligence gathering units.
Isn't it oubvious? the Sucker marks, they fight Cthulhu.
Seeing as they fight giant squids in the depths, there's a worldwide explosion in squid and cephalopod populations... I'd expect some sort of eldritch elder evil from an earlier age that's in the deeps. Some sort of tentacled monster with a gaping beak, its present in the ring of fire, where several plates meet in the volcanic activity and sulfurous fumes heat the water and fuel its mighty biological furnaces to prepare its army of squidlings to conquer the oceans so that it may then breach onto land. Some sort of aquatic tyranid hivemind I guess.
>>19168901see>>19168414the bachelor pods which gang rape females of their own and a few other species including the ocassional human are bottle-nose dolphins
>>19168932that. is. AWESOME.Now what system would work best with making this a playable setting with the pc's starting as Sperm Whales fighting off the hidden squid menace, holding the line while awaiting reinforcements that may never come?you could do it in gurps maybe but i dont have a masters in calculus......
Brave soldier lost in battle.
>>19168932
>>19168932In a previous age it sank below the oceans as the biosphere collapsed and ice encased the world entirely. Here its ancestors sought the heat of the ocean vents, one of the few remaining species on Earth. It was a terribly hungry period, they evolved to be ruthless eating machines, capable of going ages without food and striking mercilessly when it comes. Then the ice receded and there was an age of plenty, they grew dramatically in size and form. Shedding their protective shells for lithe bodies and massive tentacles and tearing beaks for ripping through the mass fat of these new creatures. Yet they were not alone, new creatures emerged, descendents of the vertebrae fish, sharks. They multiplied into many niches, fighting tooth and fin against the Ancestor Squids. Their war was lengthy and indecisive, and the age of plenty gave way to another age of scarcity. With the sharks on the run the squids prepared for the next age of plenty, delving deep to their lairs. A massive hivemind coalesced and slept, preparing. The age of Dinosaurs came and went and they ruled the seas. The few seaplying creatures knew instinctively something had to be done. Massive sharks evolved to fight them, long-necked dinosaurs could see and warn all creatures of their coming and patrol the surface. The combat was bloody and the hivemind learned and grew.
What about narwhals? Are they the spearmen of the whale warriors? Or the whale shark?
The males probably beach themselves to turn their own bodies into WALLS.BLUBBER WALLS TO PROTECT US FROM THE UNSPEAKABLE.
>Well, as far as we know Sperm whales have the largest brains of any other mammal ever.(weighing 18lbs.)Not to be that guy, but sperm whales actually have a pretty low encephalization quotient.
>>19168394Would remind me of those thinking whales in Blue Sub n°6Also, fishtits
>>19169052Yet the first coalition of dinosaurs and sharks could not withstand the collapse of the surface ecosystem like the long prepared squid hivemind. As the world entered another age of scarcity the squids slept, being cannibalized so that the great hivemind could live on through the devastation. Others scavenged the ocean's dredges for the bloated corpses of the dinosaurs and sharks so ill-fitted for this new world. Thus they waited and soon they slept, waiting for a new age to appear and for them to dominate. It would be millions of years for it to awaken again. The loud deep echoes of the surface rippling through its massive body. It sent scouts from the depths, to reseed the world. They encountered huge creatures made of nothing but meat and fat, whales, filter feeding on the surface. They fell quickly to the onslaught.Only a few survived, following currents that were safe from the squid menace for millenia. Others fled to the frigid ocean waters where the squids could not go, and a small few grew teeth and came to understand what the squids were. These were the Sperm Whales. The Sperm Whales have been holding the line as the hivemind fully awakens, but with it becoming fully conscious and the warming waters of the world becoming more friendly to the Enemy they are fighting a losing battle, tenacious as they are.
>>19169096Fair enough.I mean it's not like any of this has any REAL basis in reality right?Right?
>>19168932>>19169052>>19169138

>>19169052>>19169138I want this to be true
>>19169138The Sperm Whales have been holding the line as the hivemind fully awakens, but with it becoming fully conscious and the warming waters of the world becoming more friendly to the Enemy they are fighting a losing battle, tenacious as they are. They work with other whales: The Blue Whales who use their great physical size and weight to crush their foes at the surface and patrol the world. The Narwhals who are secretive warriors, deadly and furious. Belugas who are incredibly intelligent and remain in hiding among the arctic. The Oracs, berserkers who defend the Belugas and northern reaches. The Greys who patrol where the Blues cannot. The Dolphins who act as messengers and light recon and response to the smaller squids that the Whales cannot catch, tearing them to pieces. The Sperm Whales can go the deepest, they are the strongest and most well trained force of Whales, using armor forged from ancestral bones to protect them and honing their massive teeth. They have taught the Humans to hunt them in a bygone era, their fishing fleets capturing swarms at the surface where patrols could not reach, but the Humans betrayed them, slaughtering the Whales as they grew more powerful but forgot the might of the Leviathan and Kraken from their legends which once prowled the surface but were slain by the Whales.Only now have the Humans realized their folly and created technological marvels to enter the depths, the question is will they realize that the great Enemy is out there and how little time they have? Can the Whales hold out till their tentative ally progresses?
>It begins
>>19169212Fuck it. I'm getting a baseball bat and heading for the beach. Let's do this.
>>19169212The bygone faction of old, the Sharks are still hanging on. The Great Whites patrol the open water, rarely engaging the Great Enemy alongside the Orcas in the semi-arctic waters where they both hunt seals to prevent the Enemy from striking a blow to their food supply.Others fight in the tropics in the areas far too shallow for the Whales and even Dolphins to patrol. However these are mostly mindless, instinctive actions. There is only one truly mindful shark, the Whale Shark. The Whale Shark has learned to cooperate with the Whales full on, mysterious figures that disappear from Human view and travel the world, keeping note of the Enemy movements and eliminating small groups of their scouts. They also have some strange abilities evolved and channeled through their shimmering bodies able to disrupt the hivemind. Also keep the Sperm Whale/Squid information coming I need stuff to work with.
This reminds me of something...
Anyone else feeling Sperm Whale Quest?
>>19169312Oh man, I used to play this on the mega driveSuch a beautiful game, but damn how hard it wasI miss those musics
So whalers are like...even more horrible then before?
I recall rays being closely related to sharks, so where do they fit in all of this?I do kinda like the idea of an elderly manta filled with ancient wisdom.
>>19169288Where the threat is greatest is the Pacific, as seen by the massive explosion in populations observed in the Anarctic seas up across South America and through to the Indian Ocean. Here the Sperm Whale and Whale Shark groups have the heaviest presence. Whale Sharks also keep their breeding grounds far away from the action, with large numbers being seen regularly in the Persian Gulf. The Sperm Whale (females) command interacts with the Orca and Beluga fighter groups in the Alaskan waters during the worst of the fighting in the South. The development of the females as the logistical arm is partially due to them giving birth in these far off waters as well during this time period. It is 2am and I'm looking at sperm whale migration charts what am I doing.
>>19169407You're /tg/ing.
>>19169375Hmm I had forgotten about Rays. The Rays, the massive Manta Rays form fighter groups that are defensible due to their huge populations when traveling as nomads. The largest of these can be seen in the Gulf of Mexico (fighting the extremely aggressive squids that have appeared in the Carribean) and off the coast of New Zealand where the primary threat is located. The Rays have been around for an extremely long time, while not sentient have wisdom of ancient eras passed down in elaborate dances to teach their young how to defend the squadrons. The Stingrays act as shallow water support, often working with dolphins and other sharks when squids invade their waters. They are generally too small for open water actions.
>Marine mammals planning to invade the EarthMy body is ready
Ahha, just realized the Japanese and their insatiable hunger for seafood is the greatest human ally to the whales.
>You're given the choice to join the forces of the oceans in the battle against humanity>You'll keep your mind as he is right now, but your body will be modified to the point you'll not be able to live on lands anymore, becoming an hybrid between a human and an aquatic creature of your choice>Also, fishtits waifusWhat would you do /tg/ ?

Squid groups:Octopodes: Shapeshifting spies who are hivemind nodes. They can go almost anywhere and can come in a range of sizes from blue-ringed octopus, a terribly deadly toxin loaded coral reef agent to the giant octopus that rips apart shellfish. They can use a portion of the hiveminds intelligence, there was an attempt to persuade the humans to join them by sending an agent to an aquarium and using their intelligence to predict world cup winners. It was silenced by Whale operatives.Squids: Come in almost every size, from tiny fresh water squids to the colossal Whale fighters that patrol the deep water to protect the Hivemind. These are the backbone of the cephalopod swarm. Some are equipped with shells so that they are heavily armored and more difficult for the Whales to crack, featuring nautilus shells and the like, these variants are more common in shallow water where dolphins, rays, and small sharks would have the most trouble. Though there is whispers of massive armored creatures in the deepest depths that are the Hiveminds personal guard.Cuttlefish: A step between Octopodes and Squids, these creatures are masters of stealth and contortion. They are highly intelligent and can operate independent of hivemind nodes.
>>19169897>Reaper CuttlefishAssuming direct control.

Ok so I am going to do a one shot in GURPS with my party, playable races are the whales and sharks/rays.Would the type of whale be more like a profession or race? If not profession then what kind of professions would there be? Are there ranged fighters? Sneaky ones? Crowd control (Well I guess whales have been known to use bubbles to corral fish so they can eat them so I guess that works)?
>>19169998
So what if we had crossovers with kaiju's? Would Godzilla duke it out with the big nasty?
>>19170005Ranged? Maybe add in humans as a playable race in subs? Or there were dolphins in the Cold War apparently equipped with diver darts so hand wave them equipped with harpoon guns and the like. Cold War, Nixon declares detente so that the two superpowers can focus on the shadow war with the hivemind. Those "accidentally" lost nukes in the ocean? Not lost at all.
>>19170068>Nixon is....THE WHALE WARRIOR!
What about Turtles? Do Sea Turtles come into play?
>>19170151Armored long ago so that they aren't bothered much by the squid forces. Whales might be able to squeeze some information out of them from their wide-ranging travels or hire them to do patrols but since they're so thickly armored they don't fear the squids rightly.
>>19169671Whales walked the land once, after their amphibian ancestors left the waves in the early days of life. The whales flourished and grew upon the earth, becoming similar to the wolves of today. But they heard the call of the deep, and knew that the Long War was beginning anew. Below the thunders of the upper deep;Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleepThe Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights fleeAbout his shadowy sides; above him swellHuge sponges of millennial growth and height; And far away into the sickly light,From many a wondrous grot and secret cellUnnumber'd and enormous polypiWinnow with giant arms the slumbering green. There hath he lain for ages, and will lieBattening upon huge seaworms in his sleep,Until the latter fire shall heat the deep; Then once by man and angels to be seen,In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.
Atlanteans fighting a space war against lovecraftian squid by use of genetically engineered bioships/space-whale allies. It's defeated, we cast it into the pit and what's left of the atlanteans after this forever war set themselves up as jailors with the whales taking to the waters for direct supervision. Pushed to the brink by the noble forces of Whaledom, the tentacular horrors from beyond time needed a new weapon they could bring to bear against their mammalian foes. Thusly, the vicious shark was born. Dreamed in the darkest depths of the squid lair, these ever moving, always hunting, sentient killing machines were loosed upon the unsuspecting warriors of the Whale Hegemony. The whales retreated to the vast northern reaches, beyond the predations of the sharks, to formulate their response. Suddenly rocketing from the icy blue depths, the shock troops of whaledom, a hybrid force of environMETAL destruction, bred for battle against the ancient horrors of the deep and their saw-toothed pawns, mixing the best elements of vicious sharklike killer, and noble whalalian features; ORCAS.KILLER WHALES - FUCK YEAH

Long did the archaics fight the eldritch ones, through millenia and numberless eras. And yet, even they could not survive the conflagration that near destroyed their world and ended the great dynasty of their dragon cousins on the land. And yet, the eldritch ones were also brought low by the fire from the sky, and only the simplest and least sapient of their kind survived. The spirits of the archaics lingered on, waiting for their successors. In time, the small, hairy ones who scuttled between the feet of the great dragons, and who hid from the fires, surviving their wrath, grew in size and power, the land swept clean for them by the conflagration. And on the years passed, until finally, the hairy ones began to venture into the water once more, and the spirits of the archaics were waiting, after all that time, to call them ever deeper and prepare them for war.For the eldritch ones knew no death, but the spirits of the archaics could finally wage war upon them once more with the might of their sucessors. They lend their super-bubbles to any who will meet their price. Then again, as ancient monstrosities, their price might be something weird and mystical, like a treasured memory or a childhood dream.
>>19173938Glorious ancestors! The Codex Cetacea was created by these ancient and wise creatures.
>>19173753GODDAMNIT TED! I'm trying to- Ahem. I don't know this guy. Seriously, what's he on about?
>>19174712The Codex Cetacea, penned by the great elder-whale scribe Dorudonus, is separated into a few parts.Part, the First is a treatise on the many different species of whale, dolphin and porpoise. The text describes the physiological differences and the varied cultures of the different kin.Part, the Second is a detailed description of the Enemy. Both the squid race and its foul progenitor. Dorudonus takes the time to also write his theory on the origins of the Eldritch King, but modern whales know the truth to be that much darker. While some of the details on culture and histories of the cephalopods are mere speculation, the physiological information (weak spots and vulnerabilities) remains Part, the Third describes the history of the whale peoples, and, more importantly their fight with the cephalopods. This is a hallowed section, especially as for the later parts of the work, Dorudonus was himself present for some of these battle.
I still remember the day I saw it, we were out on patrol. We were part of squadron BN-45, we weren’t even important we did the rounds on some dead backwater, not that anyone complained mind, considering we know what was out there. Or at least what we thought we knew.So there we was twelve bottlenoses fast as you like just doing our duty, and then it struck like red lightning and the next thing we know four of us are dead and the rest firmly in it grasp. So we screamed what else were we supposed to do? We were dead! Then we realised nothing was hapin’in so we stopped screaming and just stared.
>>19175756And you what happened next? It chuckled! The fucker chuckled! I didn’t know these things could think let alone laugh! It said to us, in a deep ancient voice that made my spout squirm.“Such little things you are, and out here all on your own? You have to be careful, after all you never know what’s lurking in the darker waters; but it’s a bit late for that now isn’t it?”Then captain Tirion, bravest dolphin I’ve ever known, look right into this monsters eye and shouts.“Just finish us and be done with it beast!” and then it just said.“As you wish” and snapped him in two.And then it did it to Melokor and then Brodric and then Silke and then Ronsen and then Heger and then Averon.
>>19175777And then it came to me and it got real close and said. “Don’t you hate being interrupted?” and I won’t lie I was so terrified all I could do was agree with it. Then it started talk’n some more and I can’t remember what about, nonsense mostly currents water temp what kind of pray we hunted and I faerd for my life so much I just went with it and talked to it about whatever came up. Then after a while I was running out of air and think it could tell so he said to me a few last things before he left.“I like you Galvos, you know your place; you speak when spoken to and you never interrupt.” It said. “But the thing I like about you most of all and the reason you still live is that your such a wonderful coward. I’ve just slain your whole pod yet here you are bargaining for your life with idle chatter, marvellous, simply marvellous. Do you know why I didn’t kill you right away? Hum? No? It’s because you were quaking the most. Now swim along, and tell a wonderful story.”I’ve never had the courage not to.
Whereas once the spirits of the archaics could whisper to all whales, as millenia upon millenia have passed, so this bond has weakened, until only a select brotherhood of whales can hear the call of their spiritual forbears. Both maintaining and strenghtening this link, the Ghost-Whales practice Necromancy only with the most reluctance, and will only resort to the most dire of spirit-magics when the Eldritch Ones pose the greatest threat. And yet they have time and again turned the tide, though the means through which this has been achieved are barely spoken of among the warriors of the sea.For at the bottom of the ocean, in the depths of the deepest abysses, lie the fossilised remains of ancient armies, the undying remnants of the Archaics, ready for one final call to battle, ready for the song of the Bone-Whales...
>>19175854Whale song has been changing world wide, are they calling the ancients from their slumber?

>>19179455The Eldritch Ones sow discord and depravity by their very existence, with those closest to the oceans being the most susceptible. The sexual proclivities of seafarers are well known. And how else to explain why Sea Otters occasionally shag seals to death?

>>19175854Oh that's pretty much the coolest thing I've ever read, dinosaur Ragnarok, complete with Plesiosaur "army of the dead".(yes, I know plesiosaurs and icthyosaurs weren't dinosaurs, but it's easier to just call all the reptilian beasts from that era dinosaurs than writing out "aquatic-reptiles" or "dinosaur-like reptiles".)
bump for potential...
>>19183622Don't forget the Pliosaurs! What role do the River Dolphins play, however? What is slowly spreading its tendrils across teeming tropical rivers? The extinction of the Chinese Baiji is a grievous blow; the Eldritch Ones have already begun to secure their foothold in the Yangtze. Rumours of strange disappearances abound.
What about the old tales of mermaid and sirens, cross between aqua and humanity, could these females have been engineered in a possible way to communicate with the Dry ones, whom technological marvels may very well prove to be the tipping weight in the war effort?
>>19186790No, mermaids are the foul offspring of men and fish perpetuated for the eldritch ones' perverse amusement. It's not commonly known, but the Deep Ones are what happens when humans get it on with trout.
Your elders come to aid in the battle!
what about booms in the jellyfish populations. Those things look like damned proto-shoggoths.
>>19191247>jesuschristhowhorrifying.jpgIsn't the scientific consensus on jellyfish something along the lines of "They exist and that's about it."
>>19191264many posses properties on the edge of outright eldritch. Some are seemingly immortal, most can divide and reform at a later time, very little has been discerned regarding their mental processes. If someone here knows a thing or two about jellyfish, please speak now.

Any chance in there being portals(ignoring the obvious violation of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics) to the possible oceans of europa or enceladus, or is this to far gone?
can we get this archived for future throatstubbles?
So what about crustaceans? They have the greatest biomass on the planet and are a vital part in the food chain.>DOWN WITH THE OPPRESSIVE DEVOURERS! Be ye, crab, shrimp or lobster we fight for our freedom! Down with the tentacled ones, and down with the bloated sea mammals!
>>19191462I feel like they are sort-of-ally-sort-of-not in the same way eldar are in 40k.They help the ~whales~ when they want to against the Elder Ones, but mostly fight their own battles and robably fight the whales on occasion too.

The crustaceans could be imperious towards everyone else, despite the fact that they are woefully unprepared to truly enslave anyone else, or am i not giving the hardshells enough credit?Pic appropriate because they share the same mentality.
No need to worry, Sperm whales are just fighting off the remnants from the Precambrian Burgess Shale. You know, with the bus-sized sea scorpions and the giant crabominations?
All I could think at the time was "This is it.....I will give my life in defense of this planet from these horrors.....So be it."And as that thought formed in my mind, as I was preparing for one final glorious charge to oblivion, they came. Like a blanket covering the ocean floor in the depths we fought they came. The Crustaceans.Thousands upon thousands of them, of all different types charged the formation of giant squids and their foul minions that had destroyed all in my squad. Though they indeed took casualties it was as to a grain of sand in the desert. My courage bolstered and my resolve strengthened at such a show of bravery I charged in Fins thrashing. After a heated yet short battle we stood victorious. But as mysteriously as they came, they disappeared back to murky depths. I'll never forget this as long as I live.........
anyone willing for sea monks to be possible canon?
>The roughly-triangulated origin of the Bloop is approximately 950 nautical miles (1,760 km) from the more precisely-described location of R'lyeh, a sunken extra-dimensional city written of by H. P. Lovecraft in his famous short story The Call of Cthulhu

>>19191609And then this thread was suddenly about Unified Setting's illithids.
>>19170850Once released the Humboldt begins to dive. As it descends, other Humboldt squid display some curious behavior. They seem to be biting at the camera but not attacking the camera laden squid. It appears as if they are curious and investigating this unknown object. The squid descends to over 1000 feet with the camera attached to its fin. Due to the roughness of the sea, the crew is not able to watch any live footage from the camera. The team is running out of time as the tropical storem approaches. They wait until the last possible minute and the crew brings the camera squid back towards the surface. The crew releases the camera squid and quickly heads to shore with their footage.Back on shore, the crew reviews the squid footage. While down deep below the surface, the camera squid begins rapidly flash color as if warning of approaching danger. Out of the darkness a massive shape of a squid appears on the tape. The team is not sure what kind of squid is on the tape but they are sure it is huge.
>>19191963The team sends the footage to Dr. Roger Hanlon. He attempts to identify the species type that is found on the footage. Unfortunately the footage is not quite clear enough to make a proper species classification. Hanlon in unable to say for sure if the captured footage is of a giant squid or a Humboldt squid. In order to understand the size of the creature that is shown in the footage, it is sent to Peter Schmitz of Motion Engineering. Schmitz is an expert in utilizing film footage to determine sizing. He uses known proportions of beak to eye distances and arm width dimensions for both the Humboldt and Giant Squid to come up with size estimates. Schmitz used Humboldt squid proportions to determine that it would be 60 feet long. That would be about ten times larger than the largest previously known Humboldt squid. When Schmitz used giant squid proportions, he found that the creature would be an amazing 108 feet long. This is as long as the largest creature know to exist, the blue whale. So while the team was unable to get footage clear enough to definitively identify giant Humboldt squid, they were able to find some intriguing evidence. No matter what type of squid it is, the Sea of Cortez in home to some massive squid creatures. The idea of huge Humboldt squids hunting in packs is truly frightening.

>>19191418anyone up for this? I like the idea of a portal to some distant moon where the waters ascend to a frozen sky, where narrow vents bloom pungent clouds, and awful things seeded eons before stir in hideous paeans around arcane temples of unnatural stone, waiting to flood our world with an aberrant host, that the blood of the Earth should return them victorious to Enceladus on the crest of a backwashing red tide. How about it?
>>19192286So like the eldritch horrors have been seeding the planet with their children for millenia in preperation for this?Would that mean that one of these is like ~sovreign (forgive the reference) while the rest wait in the wings? Or is the eldritch one down there in the court of the deep just a smaller entity compared to the foul horrors of that realm and its job is to eventually widen the portal?
Shhhhhhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT1TSbarW1U
The Pods know only too well that the critical moment of the war grows near. Even as the Spirit Whales wake the undying ones from their slumber and the Sperm Whales gather for a major assault on the Cortez Sea, all know that the Eldritch Ones are readying themselves too... This war will be a terrible one indeed. For there is one force that even the bravest whales fear and will not trifle with. Slowly, methodically and with alien rage simmering beneath serene charades, the Blue Whales near the battlefields, the oceans themselves beginning to churn in their presence.
sup/tg/ is so dodgy these days I capped the whole threadhttp://imgur.com/Tvckrif anyone else wants to save it for future reference

>>19192341one of two options exists, choice depending on which is more horrifying:1)Enceladus(or Europa) is the cephalopods place of origin and they had a portal that led to cambrian panthalassic ocean, which is now dormant and the Court of the Depths is trying to reconnect with their alien ancestors by collecting energy from nuclear fuel rods and deep sea trench volcanic activity in order to restart the portal2)(The Arsenal Wormwood) During the fall of the first Cephalopod Thalassocracy, a spacetime permeability between the currents of the Bathyal realm and some unknown world, and opted to relocate their collapsing empire their. However, the portal was found to be collapsing after a few millenia, so the hivemind decided to issue the Ouroboros imperative: That the cephalopods on Enceladus toa) engage in ferocious cycles of reproduction and feedingb)cluster around volcanic vents that were of high radiation due to upwelling deposits of radioactive minerals so that over millions of years, the process of evolution might be accelerated to bring about an unending development of faster, stronger, more numerous, more viscous, and altogether insane weapons that would be released when the portals were reborn.personally, i liked 2 better
>>19192503funny because i should have written vicious "violent" rather than viscous "thick liquid"

>>19191247>>19170151So I might be remembering incorrectly here, but aren't leatherback turtles the one of the only natural predators of jellyfish?
>>19193169they are credited with helping to keep the jellyfish population down since it's their main source of food, but plenty of fish eat jellyfish.
>Global warming is actually caused by squids, melting ice caps and giving them access to delicious land-meat.I for one live near the mountains, so at least I'll live longer than most of you.
Where do manatees fit into this setting?
>>19193669Allies of the sharks, who I believe are the old guard against the squids.
Bumping for the glory of the Whale army
So we've settled on pretty much all sea creatures being to some degree allies against the Cephalapodian menace? Or at the very least neutral. I just don't want us to end up with quibbles over exactly which species serve the Eldritch Ones.I am ok with deep-sea dwelling creatures being corrupted by their proximity to the twisted powers though.
>>19194632I would say most don't want to get involved. The active factions I see are:Our protagonists, The whales and other sea mammals (Cetacea)Allied to above are Sharks and Rays (Elasmobranchii)Mercs who have there own ends, but will fight for who pays, are Crabs and shrimps (Decapoda)Our villains Squids, Octopuses, and Cuttlefish (Cephalopod)People I'd like to hear aboutJellyfish (minons of the Cephalopods?)Sea Turtles (Friend, Foe, Neutral?)
>>19195036Id say the turtles are once a close ally of the whales, but when heir numbers where decimated by the Cephalopods, a part of their populace decided to go to dry land, where it is safer. Because of this, the sea turtle force became smaller, and their position in the sea grew weaker in comparison. Now they are still allied with the whales, but are far more cautious about it.
>>19194010Aquatic Archosaurs did the bulk of the fighting until the Mesozoic, mind you... The sharks were too primitive and simple minded to resist the higher minds of the Eldritch Ones on their own until fairly recently. The Rays show an interesting departure from the usual Chondrichthye template, however, and are already serving with distinction as scouts and light infantry in support of the main Assault Pods.
>>19197102That should have read "until the end of the Mesozoic." Soz.
