You are Gerald DeFlynn. You got the touch, you got the power~. For a moment, at least. While the battle against the group of bandits was going well, a tactical error and some bad luck cause you Molga's system to freeze. Thankfully your mommy came by and had a talk with those mean boys, they were very sorry and promised never to do it again. The ones that lived, anyway.

You and Vince both depart from the town of Bursberry, having got both your zoids fixed up. It will be midnight when you arrive at Sidewinder base, leaving you with 2 and a half days before your scheduled battle with Team Stone Age.

You headed strait to bed after arriving, tired from your ordeal and near death experience. You awake at dawn, though still feeling slightly tired.

    Combat Pasta
    How Combat Works
    Stats Breakdown:
Shelling: You ability to use and accurately hit with guns and other ranged weapons.
CRC: Your ability in using melee attacks and weapons.
Maneuver: Determines your ability to evade attacks and traverse difficult terrain. Your effective maneuver score cannot be higher than the Zoid you are currently piloting's Maneuverability. If your pilot stat is 4, but your zoid's stat is only 3, you only have use of the 3 points for determining your evasive score in battle.
For any action you wish to take, you must roll a D10 to determine success. What else goes into determining success is as followed.
Ranged attack: Difficulty of success is determined by taking the opponent's Maneuver skill plus their zoid's Maneuverability, then subtracting your Shelling skill from the total. This number is never reduced below zero. After that, any bonuses or penalties to both sides are applied, such as cover and non optimal range, and a final total is determined. You must then beat this total with your D10 roll. If successful, your enemy is struck, and damaged is determined according to armor and weapon power.
A natural ten is a critical strike. It automatically hits the enemy, as well as any specific portion that was being aimed at without fail. Additional damage is also dealt.
    >> Zoid Mother !4R91sg9LEA 05/08/12(Tue)18:28 No.19028459
Close Range Combat: Melee attacks are determined by your CRC skill. Everything is calculated the same as Ranged Combat, with one exception: there are no critical hits. Instead, damage is determined by the margin of your success using the D10 roll. The higher you score above the targeted number for the roll, the more damage is inflicted. A margin of success of 5 or more is a 'Devastating Blow'. This attack will sheer off enemy equipment and limbs, and more often then not defeat an enemy outright.
Evasion: When you wish to take a fully evasive action. After rolling a D10, you can add the result to your total Maneuver score. However, you can only add points up to the total Maneuverability score of the zoid you are piloting.

Okay, so first things first, breakfast. Then we need to see how long it'll take to get one of those Heldigunners up and running for that aquatic mission we still need to do. We may still have to rent a zoid.

    (Silence is consensus)

You lay in bed another ten minutes, before raising yourself and making your way to the kitchen. No one's there, though a plate is set out for you. A single piece of toast, with a small omelet on top. Looks like Eri couldn't decide between angry or relieved.

You finish eating and head out to the hangar. Only the Heldigunners have arrived, most of your other salvage will arrive by tomorrow or later. One's still somewhat banged up, but another looks good as new.

Eri and her father are going over the Hound, looks like they got up early to start fixing it up. Everything exept the missing armor looks repair, and they seem to be affixing the main cannons to its back, must have come in last night.

Talk to them about quickly fixing whatever's wrong on the nicer of the two Heldis, or at least running a diagnostic to see how messed up it even is.

Then see about running the aquatic mission while they fix up/mod our Molga.

Well we already know Eri will be taking care of the Molga regardless when she installs the Det cord. If they're busy, we could look over the damage on the Heldigunners. Try and discern whether there's time to get one running or if we should rent?

You make your way over and greet them.
    "How's it look?"
"It's not too bad, considuring those Rightward fellows fixed it up some for us." Mr. Lowe comments as he continues guiding Eri as she lowers the Cannon on a pulley. "Just need to get some armor shipped in, should have plenty of time."
    "You working too, old man?"
He knits his brow. "Did you think I was just some useless drunk?"

You hold back any comment you might have had, and Eri comes down from securing the component.
"All done!" she says triumphantly. "Now I just need to hit Vince over the head and everything'll be square."

You bring up the Heldigunners. Eri tells you the better one is in prime condition, what little damage it had, your clients fixed up for you. The other one just needs some armor patched up, and it's gun tinkered with.
"I can probably fix that myself in an hour."

That leaves 2 available Heldi's, and Rick's still hanging around, he'd probably help out too. You might could call Sarah, too.

Sarah was the Tsundere one we beat in the free for all right?

I vote either her or Audrey.

I don't see any reason not to take rick, especially since he can bring his own zoid. Audrey could be good too if she has any experience in an aquatic zoid. I'd like to train Eri a bit more before we stick her underwater since she can barely maneuver on land. It's too bad the sleepers will be out of range of the Gordos rail guns. Not sure about Sarah, I guess if Audrey has underwater experience we'll use her but if not we can call up Sarah?

    Ah, i forgot to mention

You can bring more than one person. Rick has his Sinker, and Sarah can use her Viper, so you and someone else can use a Heldi, for a maximum of 4 pilots
    >> AC-Guy 05/08/12(Tue)20:30 No.19030582
    >>19030537

So then lets take Audrey and see if Rick and Sarah want to come along for the ride.

If anybody acts suspicious as to why we're bringing so many just say it's faster and safer, we don't want to wreck our shit too badly right before we go into another match.

Take Rick, Sarah and Audrey. We may as well bring a pile because we're hopefully going to get a lot of salvage and we want this to be a milk run not a tough fight.

Someone should drive the Gustav near where we're going, probably keeping their Zoid on the storage so we can bring everything back with us.

You thank her and find Rick, who's looking over his Sinker.
"Yeah, I can help you, dude. Least I can do for fixing my ride up, just say when."

You tell him you'll call him when your ready, then go to call Sarah on the video phone. Or rather, you call her base. Some one you never seen before answer. It's a man with a long goatee that curls up.

You go in detail over the mission you took. Her lip curls in the corner of her mouth.
"Underwater sleepers, you sure about this? Lot's of nests got damaged by the asteroids, but an underwater one will likely be at full strength. You're looking at 20 enemies at least, easy."

Personally, I think that while both of them are potential love interest territory I'm not sure we've 'settled' on one yet.

Right now, we get friendly with everyone. Not TOO friendly, since we don't want to look like a man whore, but still. Once things look like they're about to get hot and heavy we can start talking serious. For all we know, neither of them are about us, and if I remember correctly Gerald BURIED his last couple girlfriends.

We said we like them, that we would protect them, and didn't want them to get hurt. None of these are necessarily connected, nor romantic in nature.

Therefore we plead ignorance and act vaguely suave until they're all DESPERATE for it. Never commit to anything, never act like we're shooting for a harem end. Not that we would say NO if it came up, but we shouldn't be actively shooting for that goal.

Just my two cents anyway. Never SAY anything for certain, and act surprised when they accuse us. After all, nothing wrong with a little joking between friends right?

"Wait, we're dating? I mean, I kinda like you and we went out that one time for dinner.... I didn't know it was that serious, or that they took the flirting as anything more than a friendly joke. I'll stop if it bothers you, but I really didn't think it would."

We've made out with Eri. So yes, we've lead her on in a major way but are not presently in a declared relationship. AKA: Without settling things with her we could ruin everything if we over do it with other people.

I don't mind us flirting with Sarah, it could be part of our personality. But we should not make a real move until we have an understanding, one way or another, with Eri.

The Drama Train is down the tunnel. We should pay care not to be over run.

    "AHAHAHAHAHA!"

We're on a team together, have an established working relationship, and are solidly in 'friends' territory if nothing else. That alone most people would be willing to start a fight over, especially mercenary types like ourselves. Where gold buys blood a real friend is worth something more.

I don't think we should make a serious move on anybody yet, make-outs aside. That said casual flirting and banter should be a thing right up until somebody actually tells us to stop, THEN we will tone it down.

"Squid depth charges" discuss with Eri. The key bit is making them deployable and then explodable from inside the Heldigunner.

If that doesn't work...review under water combat strategies? See about making sandwitches so people have lunch ready? Discuss strategies with Rick and such?

See what Vince is up to. Even if we only have so many under water zoids, having a solid shooter on the edge of the lake could be very useful. Both in the even of ambush and for skeet shooting assuming an opportunity arises.

And in a Underwater zoid, it wouldn't do any good unless you had something to shoot em for you. We're talking Gojulas big. I think they made something like that for the Mariner version, actually."

After awkwardly parting, you round up Audrey and Rick. Rick does indeed have some knowledge pertaining to underwater combat. He details some things to keep an eye out for, such as currents, counter currents, pressure, and crush depth.

After about an hour, you head out to the hanger, and notice something astonishing. The Gustav, which was all but bricked when you brought it in, is relatively patched up, even the missing shell is in place.

"You suprised?" Eri comments when she found you looking it over.
"Very." you confirm. "How'd you fix this so fast?"

If we're talking End-Game Zoids, I'm gonna have to put a vote down for the Energy Liger.

Built off the same frame the Liger Zero was, much earlier, has melee that rivals a Blade Liger, good offense, and is dead killy at a range. It maneuvers as good or better than any other ground type, has a good speed to it, and looks downright badass. If we could stick a particle beam in it's mouth, which should be more than feasible due to it's INSANE power output, I would gladly put it against any Zoid, one on TWO.

Also, while it didn't see the same production as later variants and tended to be hard to grab: It beat the Liger Zero into existence by quite a bit, enough so that us getting one would actually be POSSIBLE if we're about where I think we are in the timeline.

    (Anyway...)

You try calling on the radio, but don't get any response. You see a local policeman, and ask him where her base might be. After giving some directions, you make your way to a large building. It looks...intimidating. Tall, thick walls, gun emplacements, the works. Vlad likely made a few enemies, so you can't really blame him.

You get to the intercom, and get that guy Skiff again. He doesn't panic this time, and lets you in. You head in by yourself, since Rick had a convenient allergy to clover, and Adrey said she saw a nice looking cloud in the sky.
Making your way down the hall, you get a glimps of a rather fierce looking machine. You ponder if it's Vlads, when you here a slight ruckus.

In the middle of the hanger, Sarah and some other guy are arm wrestling, and a few others are chanting and exchanging bills, one seems to be taking bets. Thinking about it, you both never really did anything that wold count as just hanging out. You were either shooting at each other, trying to keep each other from getting killed, or simply exchanging insults. What ever it is she does, though, she always seems to put her whole soul into it. She'd probably be fun to spend time with.

Moments later, a grin creeps up on her face. "Got you." she says.
"What?" the other responds, only for her to put his hand down to just a few milimeters from the table. "How?!"
"You shifted cause your elbow was getting sore. Don't be so gutless next time." she declares, finally putting him down. Whoops and swears alike erupt, as she sits up and stretches. "Man, that took too long." she notes, humming in satisfaction.

    Groping is a big no.

Sneaking up behind her and saying "Boo" is just fine. Then ask the rest of the group if Sarah is free to come and play.

    Fuuuck no.

Collect our winnings. Make a face when she spots us. Proceed into conversation about being ready to go and sorting out if there's anything that needs doing first. Then proceed!

You pocket your hundred and walk up behind her.
"Nice work, champ." She jumps at the sound of your voice at looks back nervously.
"Wha-DeFlynn? When did you get here?" she says, grabbing for her jacket while keeping her back to you.
"Just a few minutes ago. You won me fifty creds, by the way." Her face flushes a bit, and she finally manages to get her jacket thrown on.
"You could have called, you know?"
"I did, I guess you were a bit to preoccupied?"
"Yeah, I guess." she coughs a bit. "My Viper's ready to go, I'll get in and meet up outside."
She hurries down the hanger to her Stealth Viper, and you make your way back outside, before confirming with one of the men present that she did indeed talk to her uncle about going out.

You leave town, and continue heading north. Sarah loaded the Viper up, and is riding in the backseat with you and Audrey.

That was rather impressive, thanks for the 50 creds. I didn't expect you to be the Arm Wrestling champion of your team. Those are some pretty impressive guns you've got there by the way.

So do you often jump into a strange man's Gustav and go on wacky adventures? Or am I just special?

"It's not about muscle so much as technique." she comments. "I'm not even that built, unless you're comparing me to the girly twigs you chase after."
    "I don't chase, I bide."
    "Sure."
    "Thanks for the fifty."
    "Half of that's mine."
"Hey, come on, I bet that fair and square."
"And I won it for you. I get half." she says snidely.
    "Are you always this stingy?"
"Only when it let's me aggravate you."

You arrive in Daleport as the sun begins to set. There's actual Garison forces stationed here, probably because its a port town. You make your way towards the water, and begin offloading your zoids.

Eri honestly isn't a twig, she's a mechanic who spends her time working on zoids. Mechanics are rarely if ever wimps.

Dress rehearsal, we'll be up against a not that disturbed sleeper nest in zoids half of us aren't that familiar with and only 1 of us really spends much time doing combat in the water. We should get used to our zoids, get used to the water and work out a plan. Which is probably going to be scout, determine enemy composition,

We're going to want to lure them to the shallows and the shore where amphibians shine. If we get them close to the surface the Sinker can also use it's flight to take shots at them while being hard to hit.

"Okay, everybody, before we go in, lets be sure we actually know what we're doing."

You all go into the water, and start moving into the deep area. Rick speeds ahead, like you figured. Sarah follows suit. She reminds you the Viper has a lower crush depth, since it wasn't meant for deep sea use. You move your Heldigunner up from the ground you were walking on. Your maneuver is rough, since you don't have any real underwater experience, but the concept isn't that different from moving in the sand.

["Wahah!"] Audrey cries out. You look back and see her zoid floundering about.
"Audrey, are you ok?" you say over the com.
    ["H-help! I'm sinking!"]
"Audrey, your not sinking, and even if you were, you have solid ground right below you that you can climb out with."
["I know, but..."] she sniffs a bit. ["I don't think I want to do this after all."]
A thought hits you. "Audrey, do you know how to swim?"
["...no, not really."] she says, embarrassed.
    ["Oh boy."] Sarah chimes in.
["What should we do, dude?"] Rick asks. ["We'll be short a zoid without her."]

Have Rick help her since he has the most experience while we should get ourselves sorted out completely.

Let's try to instruct her. We'll have Rick instruct her on the finer points of handling a Zoid underwater, but teaching someone to swim, one of the most important things is trust and so on, and we've known her longer than Rick and she trusts us quite a lot. So let's park the Heldis, get her out of the Zoid and teach her to swim. We'll show her the water isn't something to be scared of.

    >We'll instruct her.

Go over to her. "Hey, you trust me right? Its not that hard, see? Its like...flying but underwater." Demonstrate. "Do what I do." She is a fast learner right?

(huh, this is a pretty well thought out suggestion, really)

"Audrey, can you get yourself out of the water?"
["Yes."] she answers, gradually reaching the bottom, and walking up to the shore. You go ahead and find a swimsuit rental. You bring her in and after she changed, take her down into the water. You get in, but she hesitates.

"Come on, you don't need to be scared." you assure her, holding out your hand. She slowly takes it, and gradually walks in. She shivers in the fairly warm water once its up to her shoulders. "I'm here, don't be scarred." She clings to you.
"I have dreams." she says while shivering. "I'm surrounded by water, and I'm trapped. I'm scarred." She starts to cry. "I'm sorry, I thought I could do it if I was in a zoid but I'm still scarred. I'm scarred." she repeats. This may be harder than you thought.

"Want to know a little secret? I'm scared too. When I was younger I was scared of the dark, so scared that my mom would come in and hold my hand until I fell asleep. Over time, I could finally sleep in the dark by myself. Do you know why? Because I knew my mom would come and sing me to sleep and hold my hand. Let me do the same for you."

She snifs and looks into your eyes.
    "Really?"
"Yeah. Audrey, everyone is scarred of something. That doesn't mean you have to be scarred all by your self. Me, Eri, and everyone else, we're here for you. You ever need help, we'll come running. You don't have to let the fear control you."
You stand in the water, the waves splashing against you. Audrey winces at each wave, but becomes less tense over time. She doesn't stop shivering, but it lessens.
"I'll try," she finally says. "if you keep holding my hand, I'll try."
You smile. "Alright. The first step is kicking your feet."
