"So, how was last night?" You ask. "I was. . a bit inebrated and I don't remember much."
"Well, after being hilariously bad at poker, I just hung out. . Until Verne showed up and dragged me out of there. You?"
"Women love the robotic tentacle look. I've no idea why it hasn't caught on."
"Well, there's the fact that the 'robotic tentacle look' requires major surgery for everyone *except you*, probably. Oh, that reminds me! One of my contacts found a few . . exotic weapons and augs, and so I was going to go check them out. But since Verne is still ill after the EMP blast, he can't come with. Want to join me?" Amy asks.

<It's M-something.> Azure said, answering your thoughts. <You were so fucked up, it's not even stored in your brain.>

    "When and where?" You asked.
"Oh, you'll go? Joy!" Amy said. "Anyways, it'll be down near the docks; The guy will only be in town for a day or so, so it'll need to be today. Are you free?"
"I need a shower, and then I'll be ready." You say. "Should I take a taxi, or just walk?"
"Oh, I'll be borrowing Verne's car. I can pick you up." She said.
You're not sure how to react to the thought of her driving.
    <Don't worry!> Azure said. <Amy can't fail at anything, let alone driving!>
Now you're even less sure how to react, so you just shrug and take your shower, meeting Amy as she stopped by the parking lot.

You slide into the car, and buckle your seatbelt. Firmly. "Yeah, I live here. I have the prototype spine and everything, so it's best if I stay somewhere they can make sure nothing goes wrong."

"I see. Do you have everything?" She asked. You nod, checking your bag. Gauss rifle, deck of cards, mechandrite, all of your credits...
"Oh, I forgot to return this." You say, pulling the crossbow out of the bag.
"Keep it. You earned it, and I got it for free anyway." You nod, and she starts the car, driving off.

The ride was uneventful- she's a much better driver than you'd think, based on her character.

"Oslav!" Amy called, parking the car at the docks. They were all but abandoned, save for a large man with a bowler hat that stood there, leaning up against a locked storage container. After a bit of small talk between the man and Amy, he opened up the container, and you two poked around. There were monomolecular blades of all kinds, gauss weaponry, railguns, and dozens of basic arm-leg augs, stuck inside a box.

You take the mechandrites and drones back to the car, while Amy and Oslav makes a bit more small talk, and Amy makes a few purchases of her own, while you create a mount for the second mechandrite, connecting it to your spine as well.

While you wait, you practice with both mechandrites. You're good enough to walk on them, but not good enough to shuffle cards. . which saddens you.

<Hey, try entering one of these drones for a bit.> You tell Azure, and connect your cable to the drone. The drone's headlamp flickered a bit, and then it lifted into the air.
<It won't work like this.> Azure said. <Most AI are too stupid to control one unless they've been designed to.> He says. <I can, because I'm special, but you can't fit the other two in these drones.>

    >There's nothing on board the drones; just antennae, the hover function, and a camera on the front. Other than that, they can carry about 25-50 pounds.
<I see.> You say, after thinking. <Well, you know how to fly these, don't you?> You ask, watching the drone hover about, still connected to your cable.
    <I'm learning.> Came his response.
<Then can you just create AIs to fly them?>
<Yeah, I can do that.> He said. <It wouldn't be hard. Just a small amount of my own knowledge, without any personality indicators. . Then you can just tell them what you want them to do, and they'll do it. It'll be a lot like controlling those mechandrites, but without anything connected.>

There's a ping noise, and the cable detached from the drone. It continued flying, and you could easily see from it's camera, as if you had gained a third eye. You simply will it to fly to the left, and you saw it tilt, hovering to the left.

<Want me to do the other one?>

    >They cannot. Your hacking skill, and how it works, is still completely unknown. As far as you know, it's based on proximity from your spine. With a drone or other direct connection, you can reach a bit further, but even if you had the very best, fastest fiberoptic cable ten miles away, you can't hack past those ten miles.

Soon, you're quite adroit with the drones as well. You'll have to get used to them after they're carrying weapons, but you think you're as used to them as you can get.

"Any computer stuff? CPU upgrades, anything like that?"
"That stuff you can buy at any old radioshack, Dave." Amy said, rolling her eyes. "Oslav carries mostly weaponry."
You nod, and look over the small arms, looking for something that would be good to attach to the drones. You find a few gauss handguns that could be converted easily, a heavy railgun or two. . and. .
"What the hell are these?" you ask, looking at the metallic tubes.
"Oh. . oh my." Amy said, looking them over. "These are plasma pistols! An electromagnetic sheath, firing an ionized cluster of electricity. . These things are old and busted, but I could fix them up. They're rare, too. I'm suprised I didn't see them earlier."
"I'm curious. . With all these weapons you buy. . How many jobs do you and verne generally get?" You ask her.
"Oh, we do tons. That's why I invited you and Grayson to join our team, remember?" She chuckled. "That offer's still open, too. You're already kind of a terror, really, and we'd be lucky to have you."

Amy probably wants to by the plasma weaponry herself. The heavy railguns might be too heavy for the drones to carry, so probably the gauss pistols.

    >> Anonymous 04/30/12(Mon)22:58 No.18928310
Get a plasma and a railgun, one for each drone.

Another option would be to get two plasmas and two railguns, that'd be expensive but we could swap stuff out.

This is assuming that we can stick the railguns on and we can only fit one gun on each drone.

    >Fuck you, captcha, those aren't even letters.
"Which one of these would be better for the drones?" You ask her, and she thinks for awhile.
"The gauss are pretty standard, but they're loud and very visible. The railguns are quite a bit more powerful, and silent, but see how they're cut down? The drones can carry them because they're cut down like that, but they have way shorter range. And. . I don't know about the plasma. Plasma weapons are rare, and I've never even seen on in person before. I know they have a short range, and they play merry hell on electronics, and on. . well, everything, because they're really hot. It's like if a tazer had a child with a flamethrower, and the child was fired out of a slingshot. Or something."

"Could I fit several on each of them?"
"Well, you could, but in practice you could probably only have one weapon fired at a time- the drones don't have very powerful generators, after all."
    You turn to Oslav.

"I'll take the armor." You tell him, and he nods, pulling out an old set of armor from a crate. It wasn't like the set you had seen Grayson wearing- his looked like military, while yours. . Yours was a strange bodysuit, long strips of ceramic underneath some kind of fiber. It fit you well, strangely well. With a start, you realized that was why Oslav had appraised you- he was guessing your size. "This used to be chinese." He said, adjusting it in the back. "Could never sell it- too small in the belly, too large in the back for normal man."

"And then. . . two railguns, and one of the plasma." You say, and then Amy speaks up.
"Make that both plasmas." She said, and there was a strange light in her eyes. "I have an idea." She said.

You install the railguns onto the drones pretty quickly, listening to Azure's commands as he explains how to work them.

From behind you, working on something, Amy held both plasma pistols. She was wearing goggles. . familiar goggles. .
"Wait, are those the thermal-infrared ones from those guys that kidnapped me?" You ask.

She looked up at you, took them off, and smiled. "They used to be. Now. . I can do two things here with these." She said. "Either I can connect both barrels to the same trigger, connected to a powerful power source- the energy sheath around them would fall apart almost instantly, though, giving them much shorter range, or I could connect both barrels *in sequence*. That way, a single projectile could be fired further, and much more accurate. It, of course, would be way more powerful too- being able to double the size of the energy sheath does that."

Uh, can we ask what the battery life is? How long we have running it actively vs. passively?
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 05/01/12(Tue)00:42 No.18929684
"I kind of wanted to get back to Amy as soon as possible, so when you decide if you want in, tell me." You say. Grayson nods. "I will actually have some free time, tomorrow, so maybe I'll do it then."

You nod, and try a few tricks with your mechandrites- mostly, firing while clinging to a wall, or firing while clinging to the ceiling, or climbing along the ceiling silently.

While you practice with that, Onyx and Azure are working together with the droids, Onyx slowly learning how to control them. The way it's set up, you can wrest control of them at any time, but the moment you 'let go' of them, Onyx will take over.

<Cyan, how long is the battery life?> You ask.
<The drones can last for about twelve hours of constant movement, but firing the railguns will shorten that significantly- approximately three hours.>
    <And my implant?>
<About the same of active movement. Although, if well-managed, your implant could last indefinitely. I will work towards that.> He said.
    >Also, just so you guys know. Azure's specialty? Learning.

Do we just plug the droids in the socket to recharge them?

Ask Grayson if they have combat sims.
    >> Anonymous 05/01/12(Tue)00:46 No.18929729
    I do like Azure.
"So Grayson, you mind telling me how you know Verne? Considering I might be working with you as an 'agent' I feel like I should get to know you better."

Azure is the best AI, sure he might end up as an emergent true AI that goes bonkers but until then it'll be great fun. Get him a digital copy of the Art of War and all the other similar books to thumb through, he'll enjoy it. Get him whatever books we think might interest him, if he's a learning AI then we're going to feed him knowledge.

Recharge the twins and the tentacles. If they have combat sims practice some at those.

We're going to have to track down little miss 100 who loves our drites, she'll be worth it. Also we need to come up with some good names for the drites.

    >the droids carry onboard power cells- which aren't cells, in fact, that's a misnomer; they're small power generators. Same with your implant- Let it rest long enough, and it will recharge.
    >Simulations can't really exist, because that's on a gen-3 level tech- As in, one that will take both input and output from the mind to the machine. The reason you're so special is because you're the only one that a gen-3 works on.

"So, Grayson, do you mind telling me how you know Verne? I feel like I should get to know you better." You ask. He looks at you, shrugs, and goes back to firing.
"Well, I had just been kicked out of the military, and I was looking for a job. Verne was already doing his 'jobs' at the time, and so I worked with him for a while. Thought it was strange when he and his niece were the ones who saved you." He chuckled, and fired a bit more. "That girl's not right, though. I'm not sure how, but she unnerves me."

The mechandrites themselves aren't very suited for ranged weaponry- they're hard to control on even the best of days, so it's hard to point them at specific weapons. With that in mind, yeah, they can use and carry weapons

Uh, it was about the part where we rolled a 98 to kill her in her sleep; seeing as the general consensus was NO MERCY. And then you didn't kill her. Seemed a bit like railroading. But you promptly rectified the situation by placing enough c4 to level a building underneath her. And then detonating it. And then confirming that yes, she is good and dead.
    >> Anonymous 05/01/12(Tue)02:20 No.18930699
We take averages of the rolls. Your awesome roll was probably fucked up by lower rolls from before.
    >> Anonymous 05/01/12(Tue)02:28 No.18930772
No, I didn't roll that 98, but I was kinda disappointed that at that time we all had decided one thing, and he did another. Granted, we got what we wanted in the end, but even without that roll most of us said to kill her in that vulnerable position.

However it's all good because you did evnetually kill her in a way that was much more fun and climactic than some gauss through her brain.

And I'm just one Anon; I haven't seen anyone else complain about it, so maybe I'm just being picky.

Either way, don't change a thing; you always seem to do the right thing, whether that's immediately obvious or not.
