    The year is 2025.
Your name is Dave, and you never asked for this.
Once a generic white-collar worker, you were hit by a car and spent three months in a coma.
Somewhere during those three months, the company Emulsified Electronics found you, kidnapped you, and put some kind of prototype device into your back.
You quickly found out that your prototype has given you the ability to manipulate and control machines, and control the speed of your own perceptions.

    >Dave: This is you. You're 25, and you have a 'Bullfrog' gen-3 prototype implanted in your spine, allowing you to control electronics with your mind.
    >Abel Rowling: Your coworker\drinking-buddy. Used to be your roommate years ago before you got him a job at the place you worked, now he's living on his own and taking care of your cat, Ishelda. Is currently investigating EE in his spare time for you.
    >Jun Viridian: The 38 year old neuroscientist who implanted you with the prototype, and from what you can tell, was the one who designed it.
    >John Grayson: A security specialist who works for EE. He has implanted arms and broad shoulders. He's less tactiturn than you thought.
    >Amy & Verne: Two vigilante cyborgs; Verne is a quiet, overweight ex-cop with an augmented arm, while Amy is a teenage girl with neon hair, augmented legs, and a wrist computer full to the brim with random AI constructs.
    >Cyan: Your bullfrog's onboard AI; specializes in networking. Likes to alert you when 'he' senses devices you can connect to. You pretty much copied him from one of Amy's constructs, and he's still acclimating to you and the Bullfrog.

Peeking out of the window, you see the cyborg, standing there, rifle in hand, as he scans across the motel lot.
At the edge of your sense of hearing, you hear a soft, unnatural whine; the everpresent sound of the gauss rifle's capacitors.
    His eyes meet yours.
"Down!" You call, and you hear Amy, Grayson, and Verne hit the deck.
By virtue of the awesome powers of electromagnetism and momentum, the gauss projectiles tear through the air, shattering the window above your head; you can feel the hair on the back of your neck stand.

Two more projectiles tear their way through the air above your head, and you decide it's high time he stopped firing- With intense concentration, you close your eyes and home into the cyborg aggressor's arms, shutting them off with your raw willpower.
You hear the gauss rifle clatter to the ground, and you peek out of the window once more. The parking lot looked abandoned as you gave it a once-over, the gauss rifle looking forlorn, sitting between the parked cars.
"What was that?!" Amy called. At the same time, Grayson drew a small handgun from his coat.

"He's unarmed!" You call, blissfully unalerted of the pun you just made. You do your best to keep control of the arms, but you're starting to have some trouble against the augmentations, as his nervous system struggles to regain control of his arms.

"Where is he?" Grayson asked, peeking out of the window.
Not sure of the answer to that question, you mentally asked Cyan for his location.
    <Behind the red car.>
"Behind the red car." You say, and Grayson fired several times, the handgun's projectiles clanging loudly against the car. "That was the third guy who kidnapped me, and it seems he's upgraded to murder."
"No good." He said, firing to keep the aggressor in place. "We need flankers." He added, with a glance to Amy and Verne.
Amy nodded and grabbed what looked like a submachinegun out of a bag, before leaping out of the second window, kicking the window out as she did so, before loping off on augmented legs.

    >Unless otherwise specified, Cyan is constantly helping you as you hack.

A few moments later, you hear the telltale rattle of an old, gunpowder-based gun- no doubt Amy's weapon, before it clicks dry.
Suddenly, you lose your edge against the cyborg's augmentations, his nervous system wresting control from you. "His arms are back!" You call, and lean out of the window.

Amy and the aggressor are doing some kind of strange, savage dance, Amy doing her best to kick the cyborg's lights out, and the cyborg doing his own best to protect himself, using his arms to their full strength. Despite that, you're able to wrest control back from the cyborg, killing his arms for the third and final time. Not able to bring up his arms to protect himself, Amy kicked him in the temple, a loud, conclusive clang signifying the end of the fight, as the cyborg hit the ground, knocked forcefully unconscious.

Can we do a scan of this guy? Considering the cyborg-ness of him he may store data in his augments like we did in our spine. Might have some info of who he's working for or why he wanted to capture/kill us.

"Bring him in here." You called out to amy, and she nodded, dragging him as best she could. Once close enough to you, you closed your eyes, and focused on the cyborg, doing your best to scan him.

What you draw out is a big, fat, nothing. His arms and legs are the only true motorized augments he has, from what you can tell- he has some kind of subdermal armor, and possibly a combat stim injector, but it's all gen-1 stuff. You are suprised that a man can survive with this extensive of modification, though.

Amy hands you the Gauss rifle, having picked it up, and drew out of her bag. . a power drill, and a handful of different attachments. "Let's see what he has. . " She says menacingly, and gets to work.

Soon enough, you're left with the cyborg's unconscious torso, and a large pile of electronics- mostly the dissassembled augmentations. Throughout the entire 'surgery', Grayson kept backing away from the neon girl, obviously kept on edge by her delight at taking the cyborg apart.

Checking the cyborg's belongings, you see a small PDA, which had been deactivated. Flicking it on, you worked to find out what you could.

At 2 PM, one should be at point B. . For a moment, you think it's some kind of paperboy route or something. And then you facepalm- that's exactly what it is. Verne said these guys were aug and weapon traffickers, so. . maybe they keep on the move?

The second thing you find is pretty simple- The location and code number of a storage bin.. Interesting.

Grayson shrugged. "I wouldn't be able to make much use of that," He said, and rummaged through the cyborg's belongings some more, bringing out the goggles from last night. He put it on. "Hmm, both infrared -and- thermal. Probably not any use during the day, though."

Amy nodded, and copied over the data to her wrist computer. "Hey, Dave, if there's anything cool in these, then if you want something I'll sell it to you for a lower price." She said, grinning. "This is a real find- even my pocket AI wouldn't have been able to find that. You must be a real whiz with electronics, aint ya?"

Your first thought is to make a few calls. Your family, for one, Abel, for another, and then there's Amy.

But first, you want to make the entire headset hands-free.
<Cyan, I need your help.> You tell your AI, and you get to work.
Eventually, the smartphoneheadset is not even a headset anymore. You'd removed everything you didn't need- the microphone, the earbud, and even the miniature video screen, while Cyan created some software for you- ones that would connect the smartphone's screen to your vision, it's speaker to your sense of sound, and such. When all is said and done, the smartphone is no more than a small silver coin, which you connect to a cable and tie around your neck, making a simple necklace.

That done, you decide to call Amy first. In the corner of your eye, you see her face buzz into the corner of your view, slightly transparent. Truly, you and Cyan are geniuses.

    "What's up?" She asked.
"Hey, it's Dave." You say. "Did you two find anything significant? From interrogating that one Borg, or maybe the storage container?"

"Well, the borg didn't know anything special; he was just chasing us because he wanted to hurt you. 'that dipshit made me punch the boss' he said.. Did you do something like that?" She asked, giggling. "But yeah, the storage container was full of all kinds of stuff; body armor, extra limbs, some kind of aug called a mechandrite, and more weapons."

"Yeah, that's it alright! I think one of those things would need a lot of training to use, though, because it doesn't conform to any kind of human limb. It's pretty nasty looking, though." Amy responded brightly. "Why, d'ya want it?"
"I was thinking about it. Any chance of me getting it and maybe some of the body armor as like. . a finder's fee?"
"Not the body armor, the body armor is useful. But the mechandrite thing you can have. I can't customize it or anything, so I don't like it." She pouted. "But I'm not gonna do the surgery on you to install it. You'll need to get that yourself."
"I'll do that." You respond. "Nice job kicking that goon in the face, too. It was pretty damn impressive."
"Thanks! Ever since I got these things, I've been practicing. It was lucky his arms quit right then, or else that woulda' been it for me. Unless your friend was able to shoot him. Hey, thinking of you and your friend. . Would either you or him like to join our team?"

    You quickly enumerate your options.
First of all, you could stay here.
That choice is unacceptable. You *will* see your cat again, and no man nor machine can stop you.
Your second choice, you could leave a note, either here or with the secretary.
Your third choice is to call her specifically, and tell her where you're going. .
You quickly decide on the second choice; the first is non-applicable, and the third opens up the chance of Jun shooting you down.

You toss on a shirt, make sure to bring the bag with all of your belongings in it, sling it around your shoulder, and walk out of the front lobby.

On your way out, you talk to the lady at the front desk. "Oh, make sure to tell Dr. Viridian that I'm stepping out for a bit. Have her call me if she needs me." You say, and with a sly wink, you jaunt out of the front door.

Time slows, and what you sense is hard to describe. It's roughly circular, has an on-off switch, and a timer. Right now it's set to off, and the timer. . one second. The harder you focus on the object, trying to discern what it is, the more uncomfortable you feel.

Finally, you pull out, and then target her smartphone. What she's examining so closely is a video. . The video, roughly, was taken from a rooftop in the city. The camera zoomed into a black van with two people in the front, when suddenly, the passenger struck the driver with an obviously-augmented arm. With a start, you realize what this is- this is is from last night's kidnapping. How did she get this?

"It's easy to look back and decide one thing had to happen because something else happened, but we have something called choice." You say, really getting into the steam of things. "Life isn-"

"Oh yes." She interrupted, suddenly full of composure again. The end of her knife was still, very still. "Choice. If I have so much choice, then this is my choice. I will kill her, and I will kill you. That's my choice." She said, backing away from you. Her other hand was methodically twitching, rhythmically hitting the button on the device multiple times, to no avail. "Hell, I'll kill your little dog too." She said, continuing to back away at a measured pace.
Suddenly, she smiled. "See you around, Dave."

Before you can react, she darted around the corner, into one of the alleyways of the city. You follow, but the only thing you see is her dropped smartphone. It'd been stomped on and shattered beyond repair.

<Track the unidentified device and connect me to Jun.> You order Cyan, grabbing the gauss rifle out of your bag. You flick the safety off, and twist the knob from 'low' power to 'high', and then persue.
"Dave? What is it?" Jun asked.
    "I'm persuing the firebomber."
    "What?! Where are you?"
Cyan suddenly beeped, and threw up a direction on your hud. You quickly started following.
"Uh, in the alleyways. She's fast." You say, skidding around the corner. "She said that she intends to kill you." You say, not mentioning that the bomber said she would kill *you* too. As you turn the corner again, You see her climbing a ladder to a fire escape, and you fire at her with the gauss rifle. You miss, but it sparks above her head, making her duck and lose her balance. You fire again, but she dives into the window, using her handy knife to break it open. You climb the ladder, following her, but when you get to the window, she's standing there, the device in her hand. The device had been torn open, cables strewn out everywhere. What happens next is all reflex. Bullet-time activates, and time slows. In a single movement, you fire at her, the projectile blasting into her, blood spraying the wall. You twist the weapon, smashing it's rear end into the device she'd thrown at you, launching it back at her. The device beeps loudly, but what comes next isn't an explosion.

What comes next is static, and then darkness. There's some kind of squealing- something loud. Cyan is gone, and you can't communicate with him.

When you come to, Grayson and Jun are there- Jun shaking your shoulders. She says something, but you can't hear.
"What?" you ask, and she shakes you again.

"What *was* that?" You ask, looking down to the device Jun was examining.
"Some kind of EMP device." She said, putting it in a bag. "When me and John showed up, you weren't responding- I'm surprised there wasn't a feedback incident when your bullfrog restarted."

<Cyan, are you there?> You ask. There's a bit of a delay, and then-

When we get to a safe place tell them about the girl and her threats. Maybe we can get some extra security up at the facilities, and Jun needs to know that she is in danger.

Also, see if they have anything useful on her. It is unlikely, but if we could figure something out, like a way to find her, then we could potentially get to her before she does any damage. Or dispatch a security force or something.

    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:10 No.18913324
It would still need power i guess
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)20:11 No.18913333
    >Yes, exactly.
    >You don't need surgery to get it- most people would, but the prototype makes it so that you don't need to bind it to your nerves or anything.

You laugh maniacally and steeple your fingers. "Jun, I need a gasmask, a red robe, and a -"

    She looks at you strangely.

You sigh. Philistines. "Just help me install this."

An hour later, the sun has completely set, but you have the mechandrite mounted on your back, to ther right. Most of the weight of the mechandrite was based on your shoulder, where a pauldron clung, holding the mechandrite there. As you connect the cable to your bullfrog, you find it's much harder to control than you thought. You'll need to practice with it if you want to do anything useful.

Grayson calms down your maddened giggling as the claw whipped around wildly, by simply grabbing your shoulder. "Dave."

    "Oh, right. Okay."

Lets go back to EE. We want to test and practice this beauty.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:15 No.18913401
Yeah, lets go test this and get some sleep.
Wait, before that, call up Amy and inform her about the girl who wants us dead.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:16 No.18913407
Continue to practice with it, try to get more delicate manuevers down. Grabbing and spinning a pen, picking up a bottle of water and drinking from it. Once we get good at this we can do most everyday tasks with our real arms folded against our chest.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:18 No.18913436
I second going back to EE. Seems like a safe enough space to practice with our new gadget. Plus, we probably don't have any choice about going back seeing as that is probably where we are heading right this minute.

Also....since the girl threatened our cat....this probably means she knows about Abel as well. He could very well be endangered right now.

Shit let's check on him. See if Jun would be willing to let him come to the facilities. Just to be safer.
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)20:27 No.18913535
After a bit of practice, you finally get the mechandrite coiled up and out of the way, as you, Jun, and Grayson take the car back to EE. "So, what do we do about that girl?" Grayson asked.
Jun put her fingers to her temple. "I think. . I think we ignore it. After she lost all that blood, she won't be in any shape to attack any time soon, so we can use that chance to beef up security. Which will mostly be your job, John." Grayson nodded.
"It's what they pay me for."
"I'm going to call Amy." You say. "I should tell her about the Templar girl."
Jun nods. <Cyan, patch me into Amy's phone.>

"Hey, Dave." She responds. "Did you like the gift I left you?"
"YES." You respond, wriggling the mechandrite around the backseat, as much as you can in the confined space. "But that isn't what I was calling to talk about. There's this girl."
    "Ooooh." Amy says.
"No, not like that. She has a sharp knife and threw an EMP at me."
The call went quickly, and soon enough, you reached the building.

"Every time you leave, something bad happens." Jun scolds you on the elevator.
"In my defense, the first time, the bad things came *into* the building and pulled me *out*."

"Fine, fine. You can go practice with your new. . toy, while I design an upgrade to your prototype. Something to protect against EMPs. That was too close- when the system rebooted, it almost fried you too." She sighed. "It should have, anyway."

Grayson got up, and took off toward the security room; To beef up defenses, no doubt.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:28 No.18913553

Nix on bringing him back. Right now Abel is our third party outside EE and (possibly crazy) vigilantes. He's the only one we can really trust.

Warn him, but we don't want to trap him under the umbrella of EE.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:31 No.18913587

ask jun if its us that is preventing the feedback problem and all that other shit.

    >it almost fried you too." She sighed. "It should have, anyway."

I think Cyan took the hit for us, right? Don't tell her that though, it's our little secret.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:33 No.18913611
Practice/train with the device while she cooks up an upgrade. Hell, if we get good at tentacle arm, ask them to install the other one too, so that we have 4 arms to practice with. The 4th arm is so that we're more experienced and ready if we find another tentacle arm.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)20:35 No.18913636
After we are finished training with the tentacle arm, can we look into the possibilities of relays for our hacking abilities, like discussed earlier?

I for one think it would be REALLY awesome.

Your mechandrite twisting wildly through the air in your bedroom, as you do your best to learn how to use it. You're actually getting quite skilled with it in a short time, when it suddenly occurs to you that you should call Abel. He doesn't know about that girl, and that girl knows things that she really shouldn't- you should warn him.

<Patch me into Abel's phone.> You tell Cyan, and he does so.

The voice that responds isn't Abel's. It's a voice that you heard just today, just before an EMP scrambled your shit.

"Hey, Dave." The firebomber said. "It's about time you called."

    >>Again, I'll stick around to answer questions about the setting.

Make sure to call Abel too. He definitely needs to be warned. AND OUR CAT COULD BE IN DANGER.

    Well, great.

    When is the next session?
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)20:41 No.18913693
    >I've been doing sessions daily, usually, at or around noon in the UTC-8 timezone.
    > As Jun doesn't yet understand -how- you're hacking things, it's hard to figure out a way to relay it.

(but seriously, OP, I'm glad that you didn't make her lovable person. This girl=innocent(ish) mentality should be punished once in a while. And I will admit that I also has it, it is hard to suppress.)

How are you enjoying your quest so far?
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)20:59 No.18913889
    >Actually, unless you rolled high, you weren't going to succeed. As it is, you probably injured her more than if consensus was on punching her in the face.

    >Oh, I'm enjoying it tons. I was a bit anxious when I started up the first thread, but since then it's been a blast.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)21:15 No.18914067
Thanks again for running this so often. It's nice to see a new quest that sticks around. I find that if a quest doesn't get past the first ten threads, it usually dies. And you're nearly half way there!
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)21:19 No.18914107
    >Well, the more I run this quest, the more I seem to be picking up steam. So, barring a freak electrical storm or me being hit by a train, I'm sure this will continue for a long while.
    >I just know that if I start to slow down, or do it weekly instead of daily, I'll eventually delay it more and more until it dies- but I don't want to do that, so I won't.

Hey man, this is some great stuff. Do you have an overall plot planned out right now?
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)21:53 No.18914457
I had the overall plot set up since I first started the quest, but as time goes on and as I get a handle on the characters, I find that Dave wasn't who I thought he was, and he won't end up the way I thought he would.
So basically, my answer is 'Yes, I had a plot in mind. and then you people fucked it up."
But I mean that in a good way.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)21:54 No.18914470
As the saying goes, "no plan survives contact with the enemy".
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)21:58 No.18914502
Did you think we'd make Dave try to escape, or be more/less of an ass?
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/29/12(Sun)22:01 No.18914528
    >Actually, I hadn't planned to bring her into the storyline yet. I decided to have dave meet her on the street on a *whim*, and then that spiraled out. . . Pretty much, my constructed plot was decimated soon after the start of the first thread.
