    The year is 2025.
Your name is Dave, and you never asked for this.
Once an office clerk, you were hit by a car and spent three months in a coma.
Somewhere during those three months, the company Emulsified Electronics found you, kidnapped your inactive body, and put some kind of prototype device into your back.
You quickly found out that your prototype has given you the ability to manipulate and control machines, albeit with limited success, and the ability to speed up your own perceptions.

    >Dave: This is you. You're 25, and moved across the country at 20 to get away from your parents and their FAMILIAL ISSUES. Also, newly made into a cyborg.
    >Abel Rowling: Your coworker\drinking-buddy. Used to be your roommate years ago before you got him a job at the place you worked, now he's living on his own and taking care of your cat, Ishelda. Is investigating EE for you.
    >Jun Viridian: The late-30s early-40s neuroscientist who implanted you with the prototype, and from what you can tell, was the one who designed it.
    >John Grayson: A strange fellow with implanted arms and broad shoulders. He's less tactiturn than you thought, and thinks you were a volunteer for the Bullfrog prototype. Carrying a smartphoneheadset for you.

Having just finished the exhibition of your prototype, you and Jun were talking for some time, when out of the corner of your eye, you see something flickering.

The glass doors of the lobby shattered as something was thrown in, and then the flickering object was thrown soon after; as it loomed closer, you saw what it was- a glass bottle, flaming rag stuffed into its neck. Reflexively, your bullet-time activated, giving you time to plan out your next move.

    >What be ye next move?

    Hi, and welcome all.

Well, I would try to grab that bottle. Don't we have this third arm? It will be mostly unaffected by fire.

If we don't, well, molotovs aren't that dangerous.
I would look for danger other than that, then pput out the fire.

Already moving for Jun, you keep an eye out for the attackers, and suprisingly, see that there's only one of them; It's hard to see from this distance, but they're not very tall, and have long hair- Your first thought is a teenage girl- As you watch, they turn, and start to run away.

Grabbing Jun, you leap up and skid over the table from earlier's presentation, while your third arm shoves the table over, giving you a cover from the flames that you're sure will hit any moment now. All sorts of futuregadgets fall and break on the ground, and soon after, you hear the distinct sound of a bottle shattering.

You come out of bullet-time, and everything is hazy and confused, as if you'd just woken up from a long nap.

Take a peak over the table edge to see how bad the situation is. Hopefully this future building has a sprinkler system. Also, ask Jun if there's a 'saferoom' or something for these sorts of situations.
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 04/28/12(Sat)16:39 No.18898207
"What was that?!" Jun called out. Evidently, she still wasn't sure what was going on. It'd been less than five seconds since the glass had first been broken.
Wiping the blood coming from your nose, you peek over the edge of the table, and see flame covering all of the future-gadgets, but it didn't seem to spread, due to the lack of flammable materials. For once, that modern 'metal and glass and plastic' decor has done some good.

Soon enough, a fire-alarm goes off, and the sprinklers start, drenching both you and Jun. You look over her to make sure you didn't hurt her as you moved; Everything looks fine, as far as you can tell.

Standing up, you brush yourself off, making sure no shards of glass covered you. You look around the street outside, but that person from before was gone- the street was abandoned, and you don't see anyone else hostile. You briefly consider pretending that the water was making your implant fizzle and pretend to die, but seeing Jun's worried look, you decide against it.

"Oh my." Jun said, having peeked over the table at the molotov. She slipped a smartphoneheadset out of her pocket, and called someone. "Grayson. There's been an incident in the lobby."
    You can't hear his response.
    "Yes, immediately."

Hanging up, she slipped the headset back in her pocket and looked to you.

"I've. . never seen anyone move like that before." She said, before blinking and shaking her head "I mean, What exactly did you see?"

"That's a good idea, but we need to wait for John." She said. Paranoid, you looked out to the street once more, and saw a dark figure quickly approaching.

You sat back down, using the overturned table as cover from the figure, as they walked closer. Soon enough, you saw it was Grayson. He glanced at the overturned table, and then to the dying flame, and then to you two. "How many were there?" He asked.
"Just one. I think it was a teenage girl."
"Hm. Let's go to the security room and check the cameras." He said, leading you and Jun away. Every so often, he waved his hand over a door, and it clicked open. Eventually the three of you ended up in a small room, covered with screens and a keyboard. Grayson logged in, and hit a few keys, the camera screens rewinding.

"Ah." Jun said, pausing the footage when the attacker arrived. In one hand, the attacker held a small sliver of something silver, and in the other she held the lit molotov. As you watch the footage, she slammed the sliver into the glass and it shattered, throwing the molotov soon after.

You focus on the syringe gun, and soon enough, you see what he means; there are a hundred small points of light, and they each contain ID information. Focusing on Grayson's hand, you see the same thing; a small RFID chip in his palm that claims his ID number is 2441.

As you creep along B-3, you check each door. Your own is labeled, as far as you can tell in the darkness, Bullfrog Testing. The next is a storage room, and the third says something about 'EM Hammer'. Further on, it's too dark without lights for you to read. You wave your hand over both the storage room and the 'EM Hammer' room, but both of them buzz angrily; you must not have access.

Shrugging, you decide you might take the elevator to B-1. You're going to the parking lot. For a space to run, if nothing else.

The elevator ride is uneventful- You simply go up two floors, to the basement parking lot, and it stops with a 'ding' that is much, much too loud, and the doors open into a great, underground structure, complete with pillars every twenty feet or so.

Looking around, you notice that there aren't many cars in the parking lot. But then again, it is in the middle of the night.

You're about to start jogging when you see something in the distance; A large black van, rolling in, it's headlights off for some reason. You hide behind a pillar and look around at it. This. . can't be normal.

Peering through the darkness, after the doors open, you see three people- Two large men wearing balaclavas, and the third was one of the men from the exhibition.

You ping the area with your technospine, giving everything in the area a 'light touch' and seeing what reacts. The van, already disabled, gives off no such reaction. . But one of the masked men do give off a reaction. As you mentally reach further, you can sense that they're augmented to a completely rediculous degree; Both arms, both legs, and you think he may have steel plating of some kind implanted in his torso.

Seeking for alarms, you close your eyes and focus- There's a small motion alarm near the entrance to the parking lot, but it had been disabled. You keep up the connection so that you can activate the alarms remotely at any time.

You check your pockets for the smartphoneheadset Abel had handed you, when you facepalm. You had given it to Grayson before to hold it for you. There was no way you could call someone without a device.

The three men approach the emergency stairs, and the man from the exhibition shakes the handle, trying to open it. Shrugging, he brandished a hand to the heavily augmented man. The augmented man stepped forward, and put both palms on the surface of the door, ready to tear the thing off of it's hinges.

He hisses, and starts cussing in a low voice, hardly stopping for breath. Soon enough, his knees unlock, and he regains control of his augmentations- you stopped him, but not for long. This in mind, you activate the alarms- They sound somewhat like a klaxon, the 'brrringing' echoing throughout the building.

The three men look to one another, and simultaniously bring out rifles, long electromagnetic coils wrapped around the weapons' barrels.

You focus on the guns they hold, and as time slows, you see them as small points of light.

Gauss rifles are high-tech weaponry; you need a very specifically designed control chip in order for them to use the electromagnetic coils the correct way. With a simple thought, you do what you can to erode that control- you reprogram the chip to activate the rails at the specifically incorrect times.

Or at least, you try to.

You duck your head as a blue pulse of light flies above, shattering the pillar you're hiding behind. All three men are now wearing some kind of goggles, looking directly at you. The man from the exhibition points his gun directly at you.

"Do you guys have a phone on you? I need to make sure my employers know I'm not dead or kidnapped." You say, and Verne hands one over; a cellphone. Man, you haven't seen one of these since you were in college. You flip it open, and look at the keypad.

You consider calling Abel, but then he would just freak out, so you decide to call Grayson instead.

And then you realize that you don't know his number, and freeze- before you remember that he's carrying your smartphoneheadset. So you call yourself.

Grayson picks up. "Sorry, Dave can't come to the phone right now." He said.
"That's because I'm here." You respond.
    ". . Where are you?"
"Uh. . ." You look to the two people at the foot of your bed; Amy's pressing a few buttons on a wrist computer, and Verne is drinking something. "Where is this?" You ask the two of them. Amy seems to think about it for a bit, looking to the ceiling. "Oh, we're at a motel." She said, quickly pressing a few keys and going to futuregoogle maps, showing you where you are on the wrist computer. You quickly relay the info to Grayson, and he says he's coming to pick you up.
"And then I'll have you explain what exactly happened." He said, and hung up.

You focus on Amy's wrist computer, relieved that the Bullfrog still seems to be working at full capacity. Time slows, and you find yourself looking at a strange cluster of lights, all of them buzzing and moving like a swarm of bugs. Each time you focus on one of the lights, you hear a squeaking voice, saying something different. You hear one asking about who you are, and another ranting and raving about 'space'.

With a start, you realize that her wrist computer is filled to the brim with different AI constructs.

You continue to seek around inside the computer, and find a small folder of files relating to the 'investigation'. There are various pictures of the man who had gone to the exhibition and kidnapped you, and another of the heavily augmented man.

You pull out of the computer, and come back to yourself. "So, who do you work for?" You ask.

"Oh, we don't work for anyone." Amy says, still pressing keys on her computer. "We're... what's the word, that one word. Like what all those superheroes are?" She tilted her head and looked at Verne.

You close your eyes, and enter her wrist computer again, reasoning that you could probably learn something from some of the AIs.

After grazing along the 'swarm' of AIs, you only see three that might be any use. One that is constantly calculating various physics problems, analyzing parabolas, and, you think, would help you with various physical actions, like jumping, throwing, and running.

There's a second AI who, as far as you can tell, is analyzing various connections of all kinds, forming and dissemniating networks as it moves. This one could help you with your hacking, probably.

The third AI, suprisingly, is analyzing your facial expressions, and noting your subconscious body language. This might help you tell what people are thinking as they speak.

So what is the state of America in NFC? Any wars going on, the economy still going strong with the advances in technology?

The economy is still better than it is nowadays, but for the most part it's the same.

There are a few wars (civil and intenational) going on around eurasia based on stockpiles of the relatively new futurepowercells, but nothing Dave pays much attention to.
