    75 KB Zoids Quest : Episode 6 Zoid Mother !4R91sg9LEA 04/16/12(Mon)19:08 No.18743633
You are Gerald DeFlynn, and this is a sneaking mission. Destroy the final weapon, Metal G- wait, wrong script.

Having accepted a Bandit Busting job from the ZBF, you headed out alone to the abandoned coal mine being used as a base. There you met up with Sarah, who was also taking the mission. She relayed to you that the enemy has at least 3 large scale zoids, of dubious condition, as well as a pair of Malders being stationed at the entrance to fend off intruders.

And now for the bad news:
After burrowing into the mine and infiltrating undetected, you recieve word from Sarah, who had remained behind for an attempted pincer, had been spotted by a look out, and alerted the enemy of her presence outside.
This has prompted them to mobilize 2 of their zoids to deal with her.

Fortunately you have managed to hide your self, and the enemy is still unaware of your presence. Only time will tell how much of an advantge this will be.

Fuck yes! I caught this at the start!

Time to be stealthy, follow them out, we'll nail them when they least expect it.

Hmm, I think Sarah can deal with the snails, move a bit to the right so we're at the top of the T. When the 2 heavies there start heading down the T we can Alpha Strike the one in the back, taking him out and using it as cover against any retaliation the other would like to take. This will draw out the last one and we can get more info.

What are the stats that we know of for the bandit's Zoids?

Your first most adversary is the Red Horn, you'd suppose its the leader, as its in the best shape. It's armor is battered, and missing several weapons, but should still be quite formidable.
    (more on the Gordos later)

    >>18743858
You advance along the passage, careful not to cause too much seismic activity. You make it past the T section of the passage way.

["Hm?"] you hear one of the bandits over their speakers.
["What's wrong?"] the other one calls back.
["Ah, nothing, thought I felt something, must be the vibrations from my steps."]
{["Watch your stride."] the other advises. [The ceiling could cave in if you cause too much disturbance."]
["Yeah, I know. Let's get out there and take care of our guest."]

Your estimation puts the second zoid right before the T intersection, and the Red Horn has gone further ahead.

Wait for the second zoid to be at the intersection, poke our head out and blast him into tiny bits. This ought to panic the hell out of the Red Horn and he can't really use his horn or cannon with his now fallen companion between us. The SSM is kinda useless in the mine as well so he'll be pretty much out of offensive options.

After that we'll think of a clever way to deal with the Red Horn.

(we roll d10's for this quest, sir. I'll allow your roll anyway)

You reposition under the floor and use your turrets mini periscope to peak out from the ground. You see the Gordos turning sluggishly to take the path outside. Unlike the Red Horn, its missing its main heavy gun, but has most of its smaller arms. It's armor is outright raggedy(treat as 2 points lower than shown) and its rear left leg seems to have a limp. You know where to aim.

You poke your head out right when its most exposed. Your turret is still submerges, and can't bring your laser machineguns to bear, but you 35 mm can still fire.
You flip on the open channel as you attack, declaring 'surprise buttsex'.

Your quad 20 mm and your 35 mm open up, getting off multiple shots, before retreating back underground to avoid any counter attack it might attempt.

["BOSS!"] the pilot shouts in a panic. ["I'm under attack!"]
["Sonavabich!"] the one in front curses. ["I can't even turn around here. Hold out as best you can while I go ahead. Jannus! get your ass up hear!"]

These amateurs. They're openly talking an an open channel.

Your initial attack was succesful, but the Red Horn has made for the exit.

This is going to take some really precise timing on our part. Too soon and the zoid is buried too far back making it a chore to get. Too late and it'll power it's way out from under the rubble. Also, we;d have to be in front of the Redhorn to avoid potential impact damage from falling debris, but that would give it a shot at us.

Why compromise when you can combine!

You burrow under the Gordos. Then you turn around and do so again. Crossing tunnels three times, you then back up and fire a burst from you quads underground.

The ground shakes, then gives way. The pilot gives a confused cry as his Gordos sinks into the ground, his bottom half submerged. Try as he might, he can't get his zoids stubby legs out push himself out to any affect.

You surface and cloak driving away from the grounded Gordos.
Being lighter, you can move much more quickly then the larger zoids. As you approach the corner, you feel some tremors, it seems Sarah's firing at the entrance to delay the Red Horn. A much larger 'boom' informs you that the Red Horn is firing back.

["Damnit! You two, light him up! I don't care if you can't see him, just fucking start shooting!"]
The Malders obey and unveil their cannons, turning to aim in the general area you are at. The Red Horn opts to simply charge outside to confront the Viper.

Continuing forward, you luckily avoid the volley of ElctroMag. beams that lance through the ground. You make it outside, seeing the Red Horn open fire with missiles aimed at Sarah. She returns fire with rockets, and manages to shoot down the missiles with her AA Laser Mg.s. She weaves away and dives into the sand after getting behind cover.

You take another shot at him, this time scoring a clean hit. The armor on his right side seems weakest. You hear him call for the Malders to come out to assists as he tries to attack you with his cannon in a rage.

Combat in this quest is done with d10's. I know I haven't got a pasta to explain this yet, I'm just letting you know.
The idea is to beat the combines Maneuver stats of both enemy pilot and their zoid, minus your attack stat.
Example, the Red Horns Man. is only 2, plus the pilot stat of 3. Now take away your own shelling score. It's reduced to zero(never negative) You essentially cant miss, but in the other post I adlibbed a bit, since the roll itself was so low, and to accomodate the zoids armor.

Still feeling the adrenaline, you cloak and head for the entrance. The Malder's have pushed through the debris, and are advancing.
You could inform them their boss is down, and that they have one chance to surrender.

You could also just not give a fuck. You flank the two and aim your 35 and laser Machgn. at one, while pointing your quad gun at the other. You unload at near point blank range on their heads. The fire from your turrets strikes the cockpit, and it goes up in an explosion, while your quad guns strike the other's neck. They're both down.

"Sarah, SARAH!" you call out to your fallen companion.
    ["Ugh,"] she groans. ["What happened? Did you get him?"}
"Yeah..." you reply blankly. "I got him."

Sarah's Viper stirs, and rights itself. The hit did a lot of damage, but the frame can still move.

You make your way to the stores. You find a group of men hurriedly loading crates into a cart, attached to a Gustav. It seems seeing the Gordos under ground gave them a clue at how things would turn out. A few have AZ rifles slung over their shoulders. You inform Sarah of the Gustav and head back towards the fork. Going south a bit, you dig and prepare a few makeshift pits. You don't have time to make them properly, but they should slow them down, at least. Deciding not to waste anymore time, you simply dig through the walls, and make your way into a new section of the mine. You make at maintanence equipment and discarded components scattered across the floor. You scan the area but see no sign of the Gordos.

You cautiously move through the left passage. You find that it opens into the path that connects to the T further back, but also circles around.

What you find is surprising. There's an elevator that's large enough for a few zoids to fit. Standing guard is the last Gordos. It's armor is in better shape, and has the same weapons as the last one. It might be tough to bring down on your own.

The elevator itself leads upward, you guess to the top of the cliff. You curse your own mistake. The other entrance was only for the combatants. The transport likely uses this elevator. The Gordos trapped in the passageway will hinder them, but they'll be able to make it here eventually.

Jannus was not having a good day. He'd joined up with this group cause he heard bandit work was easy money. And now, before he'd even gotten paid once, everything was falling apart around him. They had been attacked, by god knows who, and the first thing he saw when going out to assist was Kenny's Gordos buried in the pathway. The other pilot had told him to head for the elevator and stand guard. He'd been sitting there for a nerve wracking ten minutes, with nothing but the occasional tremor to occupy him. And those stopped 5 minutes ago.

He took out a flask and to a draft from it. Relax, he told himself, they just radio'd they had finish loading up the Gustaf, and were on the way. Everything would be fine soon. Soon he'd be out of this place, soon he'd be relaxing in a nice hot b-.

    *tap*tap*tap

Janus looked up the canopy, and was greeted by the sight of a man standing on top of it, an AZ rifle poised and pointed right at him.
"Oy-veey!" he called out in jest.

"Good," one remarked, "the Gordos is still there, no sign of the enemy."

They all pulled into the elevator platform. "Janus, you ready to depart?"
["Sha,"] came a slurred voice, ["I wanna*hic wanna ga hahm."]
"God damnit, Jannus! You were drinking now?"
    ["Shaddup, I can*hic* dri-drink if I wananana."]

"Hm?" he looked around, seeing nothing.
"What is it?" a passenger asked.
"Nothing, could have sworn I bumped into something."

"Raise the elevator!" The machines began pulling the platform up slowly. After around ten minutes, the ceiling above came into view, and bay doors opened up, allowing in moonlight. Soon the elevator halted, and they all slowly but surely departed.
They're advance soon halted, though as they caught sight of something ahead.
"Zoid dead ahead! It's a Stealth Viper!"
"Janus, engage!" one ordered, seeming to haven taken charge of the group. "We'll circle around and flank it."
The Gordos responded by aiming its beam cannons...and blowing up his jeep. Panicked screams filled the group, as the Gordos lit up one jeep after the next.

The remaining two get in the Gustaf, and you load the Gordos onto a barge and exit, making your way back to the platform. You pull out a remote and hit a button, the the Stealth shield on your Molga deactivates, and you promptly hop in, tossing out the tied up, unconscious man you had hijacked the Gordos off of.

You all head down the long way from the cliff face, heading north to a town considerably closer. The Gustaf pilots twitchly obey Sarah's directions, constantly in range of her Heavy Machgn.'s.

You hand over all reported stolen property, including food, weapons, and even some clothes and kitchen wear. Convienant on how there were four mook zoids and one boss. We take one of each, but since we did most of the work, we should get the redhorn.

So as I asked before, anyway we could combine the malder's shell with the molga? It could be like how the liger zero had different armor sets and we could call it the Cacoon.

Next we would need some wings add-ons..

A single Gordos won't be worth much given their shape. Two in that shape may be able to make one in much better condition.

Of course the Redhorn may be royally fucked after what we did to it.

Well, the monetary reward is honestly not that big a deal, we can split that 50/50, it's pocket change compared to the salvaged Zoids. Let's get the Red Horn, the Gordosi and if we can fit the snails that'd be nice. There might also be some nice stuff that isn't stolen in their store room.

Honestly before we split the loot we should probably just load everything up and take it back to my hanger and have Eri take a look at what's usable and not. Until we see what we can get from these guys splitting them up might screw either one of us over and I'd hate for there to be bad blood between us. Yep, you're an idiot. Everyone who has ever piloted a Zoid spends a lot of time as an idiot. This is the general life style, you do well in sims, get cocky, get introduced to the smaller leagues and stomp some little fish. Then you move on to the larger stuff and realize the world is a huge scary place with Zoids you can't even imagine and pilots that you don't stand a chance against.

Happened to me, I remember when I thought I was going to conquer the wastes and ride victorious covered in acclaim. I used to think tactics involved running straight at the opponent while yelling. If you do anything half as stupid as the stuff I lived through I'll eat my hat. You've got potential, once you put get your head solidly on your shoulders you'll be an excellent pilot.

You drink some coffee, take a few energy shots, and prop your AZ rifle in the Gustaf's other seat, just in case. You head back towards the base, keeping an eye out as best you can in the dark.

    Suddenly, ninjas!
    >One Jacky Chan esque sequence later
You snap out of it, checking you position on the GPS. You've remained on course, somehow, while having no idea where the last hour and a half has gone. You reach into a paper bag and pull out 2 more energy shots and down them both.

Some time later, you grogily pull up to the hangar doors of the base. You have to try the radio for 10 minutes before you finaly get an answer.
"Gerald?" you here Vince answer grogily. "What's the deal, its 4 in the morning." you inform him you are perfectly aware of the time, as you have already fended off 3 waves of ninjas on your way to the president.
"...Yeah, ok, I'm opening the door. Just...drive slowly, alright?"

You pull the Gustaf in, and wearily exit. Vince whistles at your spoils.
    "These all yours?"
You inform him the Gustaf is a rental, but yes, everything else is now your property. "N-i-c-e!" he praises. "How'd you pull that off?"
Later, you mutter, and march ever so slowly to your bed. You flop down on your bed, and immediately konk out.

You don't wake up at six on the dot this time. It's only 9 when someone tries to rouse you.
"Mr Gerald? Breakfast is ready, if you're hungry."

"Enjoy~!" she says gleefully, before skipping out. You stare at your plate a moment, before shrugging and downing it in one mouthful. Cleaning up, and getting some coffee, which was already brewing, praise Zi, you go out to the hanger. Eri's fidgeting with one of the Gordos's. You watch her work for a bit, sipping your cup.
"She was worried about you." Audrey says, having appeared by your side. You cock your eyebrow, asking her how she figured. The dark haired girl points over to the Cannon Tortoise stowed in a maintenance square. You squint a bit before you understand.

The crane has been removed, and the original particle cannon reattached.
"When you didn't come back after 10 last night," Audrey explains, "she started working on it. She finished it around 11, then paced back and forth in front of the door for a while. Mr Vince eventually told her to go to bed. She argued with him for a bit, but finally gave up. We both went to sleep after that." She smiles at you. "The one you bought in town?"
    "Yes!"

You pat her on the head. You ask her if you missed anything. She pulls away and smiles, for real this time.

You ask her to pass word on for a team meeting. "Vince was wanting to have one, I'll let you know when he's ready." She pulls herself away before going back to work. You head into a office like space, where a computer screen and console is. Thanks to the satelite phone, you can access the database for component and zoid dealers across the whole continent. You bring up the rail gun for the Gordos. 20,000 credits, Zizus. Your Molga barely cost more than that. You may have to do without for a while.

You compare the cost of a new Red Horn to an estimate of fixing up your current one. A new one will cost 80,000 from the cheapest vendor, and repairing the one on hand will cost over 30,00o to get it up to full strength. You consider if you should sell it for now and buy another later. Finances hurt your head.

You browse through several zoids, all which you can't hope to afford right now. You feel a touch depressed, and finally log off.

Honestly rather have the Red Horn then the Gordos. maybe we could sell one or both to make up the cost for repairing the red horn, and use the remainder, and the pay for the mission to buy something else?

By the way, lets not forget we still have to train her. maybe she has a preference for one of the new zoids? though for some reason I suddenly have an urge to see her in a Spinosapper. No idea where we'd get one of those.
Just imagine if we could get one though, and could fit a stealth system on it.

If we do that, we should see about keeping one of the railguns.
    I like those things.

True, but the Red Horn is more of a long term thing it needs close to half it's price in repairs. We have enough Goldos bits around that we don't need that much to bring one of them up to fully functional conditions. Once we get more dosh we can trade it in and fix the horn up completely. Also RAILGUN!

After you eat some more and shower, Vince calls you into a room setup for team business. Everyone has a seat, even Eri's father sits in a corner.
"Alright guys." he begins n a serious tone. "It's finally time. Team Sand-winder is officially registered, and now we got to get ready for our first battle."
He presses a button and a monitor on the wall comes on.
"As of now, there are 3 teams that have issued open challenges, all in battle mode 0982. Just to refresh you, this means anything goes, just so long as both sides have the same number of zoids." The monitor blinks, bringing up the profiles of 3 Zoid warriors. "First up is Team Stone Age. Like us, they just formed recently. They haven't had any battles so far. However all members are former mercenaries, we'd be in for a tough fight, make no mistake."
The monitor blinks again, showing a new set of profiles. "Next is team Desert Strikers. They've had 2 battles so far, and although they won the first, they lost the second one, and took a lot of damage. They'll be desperate for a win, so we can't let our guard down, even if they seem easy."

He sighs and rubs his brow. "Honestly though, the next ones the real kicker." He changes the display once more, the profiles of a young boy and girl come up, bearing a resemblance to one another. "Team Raptor. They're a brother sister pair, the Ray siblings. As you might guess, they use Rev Raptors in battle."
He points to the first profile, an auburn haired youth. "The brother, Adam, uses a Raptor with modified armor, as well as some thrusters on his back, its designed to dive through enemy fire and disable them at close range before they can react." He points to the other one, a blond haired girl.
"The sister, Sasha, on the other hand, has modified her Raptor for ranged combat to help lay support fire for Adam, without sacrificing the original close combat abilities."
He turns to his teamates. "Honestly, I don't think we should battle these guys. They are very well insinc with one another, and have high quality zoids. And since they're is only 2 of them..."
"It would be 2 on 2." Eri finishes. Vince nods. "They've fought 3 battles, and won all 3. Where as we have fought none as a team. We'd be at a serious disadvantage."

He turns the screen off. "I value everyone's opinion on this. Who do we take on?"

Do we know what Zoids Stone Age and Desert Strikers have?

Probably Desert Strikers, we don't want our first attempt at in field teamwork to be against a brother/sister pair or a group of trained mercenaries who probably already worked together on the battlefield for a long time.

Also their name offends me, it sounds slightly similar to our own, and that shall not stand.

Heldigunners are actually pretty tough zoids and they use the same tactics we use. It might be a better idea to try Stone Age and hope they use a more conventional line up.

Desert Strikers, they have a name similar to us.

I can imagine the looks on their faces if we show up with a Houndsoldier, a Demantis and we choose to fuck with their predictions by going Gordos.

Holy Shit, is that a giant railgun and a Houndsoldier? We just laugh maniacally and start shelling them like a madman, Vince keeps the Heldis busy by running them down with cannons and Audrey keeps the Sinker from getting anywhere near us and intercepts any frog who dares fuck with the Gordos.

Sand Strikers it is. Hopefully I'll pick a name and stick with it.
"I agree with that." Eri says. "I think we have the best chance for winning against them."
You thank her for her support. Audrey speaks up. "If it comes down to mobility, we won't lose." She says confidently.

Vince cracks a smile. "Alright then. It's decided. The SideWinder team will challenge the Sand Strikers. I'll send the notice in right away. The battle will be in a few days, I want you all in your best condition."
You all cheer. With this, it's official. Team SideWinder starts its march to glory now.
