66 KB Commorragh Quest First Time DM - Any feedback/criticism is welcomed 04/05/12(Thu)16:46 No.18587064
Welcome to Commorragh Quest's second thread. Previously:

You are Syros Cienyx, a bounty hunter in the lower reaches of the Dark City. You are armed with a splinter pistol, an envenomed blade, and some light armour hidden beneath your clothing.

You have the task of hunting down a Heamonculus for a Hellion gang, whose territory is being invaded by some Scourge since the Heamonculus set up shop nearby. Thus far, you have tracked one of the Wracks in his service back to a dark tunnel, only to stop where some dangerous-looking black spheroids are embedded in the tunnel walls on either side.

You pick up some old card-like material and throw it through the spheroids. As it passes into the passageway, it halts for a moment between the spheroids, as if it was caught, but is very quickly let go.

Before you have time to act again, you sense a shadow moving behind you. As you turn, you recognise one of the would-be thieves from the streets. She doesn't appear to have noticed you yet in the gloom, but she certainly expects trouble, as her weapon, a long, thin, cruel blade, is drawn as she advances.

What action will you take, Syros?
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)16:50 No.18587092
    Toss her into the Spheroids.

    >>18587092
Well, technically, through the spheroids. And draw our weapons just incase she survives.

Ah, well in this case I'd like to see some rolls please, on a 1D100. Also, just a note: any roll of 66, 77, 88, 99 (stolen from Abaddon quest) is a roll where said action is performed perfectly (with the possibility of little perks or bonuses thrown in), and takes precedence over other rolls, unless there's a higher double, or a 100.

Unfortunately not, but I saved it in a notepad file, if you want it maybe I could post it up for you later? Possibly after the next post/at the end of the thread.

As the theif stalks down the narrow tunnel, you silently steal yourself away in a dark corner, dark, even for your eyes. As she passes, you can make out the hunger in her eyes, the focus in her pointed face, and you find your weapon is already in your hand, ready to strike. But then, just as you had slowly lifted yourself off the floor; an idea sparks in your mind.

You wait cautiously for her to stumble across the spheroids, and she inspects them just as you did, and just as she straightens up again after picking a piece of debris to throw through the gap, you grab her by her hair, and place your foot on her back. Her eyes widen in shock as you push her forwards with your foot, pulling her hair from her scalp painfully, and just before she can react, you let go of her hair with a cruel laugh and force her through the spheroids.

She whirls around angrily, and then freezes, rooted to the spot by some invisible force. Her eyes widen once again, the anger leaving them in an instant. Suddenly, a pained expression appears on her face, and tears began to stream down her face.
    >> First Time DM - Any feedback/criticism is welcomed 04/05/12(Thu)17:18 No.18587391
And then they pull away from her face and get sucked into one of the spheroids. She suddenly starts shrieking loudly, as moisture begins to rapidly pour from her every orifice and her skin begins to shrivel up. After about half a minute, her screams falter into a whine, and then nothing, her entire body has become a shrivelled, blackened husk, which then breaks into dust, which is also sucked up into the spheroids. You feel a little rejuvenated by the spectacle, though you're aware of the commotion you'd caused.

    What do you do now?

    RECAP: 1
You are Syros Cienyx, a bounty hunter for the various gangs in the lower reaches of the Dark City. You are armed with a splinter pistol, an envenomed blade that you pulled from the back of a badly hidden corpse, and some light armour hidden beneath your clothing. Whereas much of the street before you is often filled with xenos slaves; Humans, greenskins, and other, weaker races, running back and forth in front of the metaphorical and often too real whips of their masters, you are an Eldar, a fully fledged member of the Dark Kin.

The ledge you're perched on is cold and dark, and as the time passes you begin to reflect absently on your reasons for coming here. You'd been contacted by one of the Hellion gangs, so it wasn't really a job you could have afforded to have decline. They'd been getting a lot of trouble from a small group of Scourge who'd appeared suddenly in their territory, and no matter what they tried, they were outmanoeuvred at every turn. Unfortunately for you, the Hellions have tasked you with finding the Heamonculus who's responsible for this breach of their territory, and to dispose of him, or (preferably) to bring him out in the open so that they can do it themselves. After weeks of searching, this is what it's come down to. Sitting on a cold ledge for hours, hedging your bets on some rumours, and waiting for one of the heamonculus' servants to pass by delivering a package for it's master.

The sound of feet slapping against the cold floor in the otherwise deserted little offshoot from the main street roused you from your thoughts, and sure enough, a Wrack was plodding down the alley, carefully holding a package to it's chest. It couldn't be of much importance, otherwise it's master wouldn't have entrusted it to one little servant. You are alone in the alley, and the Wrack has not noticed you on your perch about 10 feet from ground level.
    >> First Time DM - Any feedback/criticism is welcomed 04/05/12(Thu)17:20 No.18587411
    RECAP: 2

You stalk the unknowing Wrack down the alleyway, the ledge you perched upon becomes perillous to tread upon as you go on, but you manage to keep your footing. Soon, the darkness fades a little, as much as it ever can in the Dark City, and the Wrack continues to lumber across the street, headed towards another alleyway parallel to this.

The street isn't busy, but there is a fair number of slaves and masters there, ordering, obeying, whipping, rushing. The street is full of noise. However, hungry eyes are always watching in Commorragh, and you quickly realise that you aren't the only one with your eyes on the Wrack. Several would-be theives eye the package the beast is holding, and flick between it, and the dark alleyway.

The Wrack seems to be getting restless, and picks up the pace a little as he enters the alleyway. You still stand on the other side, unnoticed by the other occupants of the street for the moment.

You slip around the ledge onto the street stealthily, and succeed in being unnoticed as you do so. Then, you drop down in front of a door, and walk boldy across the street, immediately mingling with the crowd. As you subtly move across the street, you notice a Scourge fly past overhead. Suddenly, it swoops down and cruely clutches at a greenskin slave, it's talons piercing it's flesh. It then flies up high, and drops it's unfortunate victim, whose body crumples upon impact. The birdlike creature laughs wickidly at the sight, and carries on, satisfied in the chaos it caused in the street.
    >> First Time DM - Any feedback/criticism is welcomed 04/05/12(Thu)17:21 No.18587425
    RECAP: 3
You move quickly into the alley, unnoticed in the cacophony of shouting and cursing from the slaves, and the greenskin's master. The events surely enabled you to pursue your quarry faster, but the noise will undoubtedly put the delivery boy on edge, so you must be wary now.

As you stalk down the alley, you manage to catch up enough to dimly make out the Wracks silhouette in the distance. You follow him down the alley, passing several turning's as you do. Eventually, the alley becomes more and more like a tunnel, and eventually, your quarry halts after walking into a small, almost unnoticable turning. He stops for a few seconds, standing perfectly still, then shudders as if shaking something off, and carries on down the tunnel.

You halt just before getting to the point where the wrack stopped. There is even less light down in the tunnels, but your Eldar eyes manage to pick out a few things. There are some old bits and bobs lying on the floor here, several big pieces of scrap metal, and other things that look like they were just dumped here. On closer inspection of the walls however, you find several small shiny black spheroids embedded in them, mainly on the sides. They're only about the size of your nostrils, but something about them makes crossing through seem dangerous.

And that's where I left off last time, well, my player appeared to disappear after I informed them of the thief's presence.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)17:24 No.18587453
Oh boy, at least we know what we're up against. Ok, I'd suggest throwing something else through to see if they're out of juice. Look for that hangtime that the cardboard thing had in the first post. If it goes right through, I say we follow it straight through. If they're still deadly, try to find another way around.

Oh, and try and loot the body.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)17:28 No.18587486
Wait, it's a tunnel? Alright, see if we can block the spheroids with some of the scrap metal.

And there's no body? Nothing left?

    Maybe shoot at the spheres.

The body itself is gone completely, however, everything that wasn't organic, was untouched. She has her long thin blade, a 'kit' of some sorts, containing a device used to open weak locks of various forms, a small, round black disc, and a box, inside of which is a vial of a strange black-purple substance, that swirls around it's container like a mist.

    >>18587541
Let's try to grab that kit with our sword. It might come in handy. So the substance in the vial didn't get sucked up? So either it has absolutely no water in it, or the spheroids don't recognize any moisture inside a waterproof container.

You do have some rudimentary technical knowledge, however, things such as these are outside your grasp, as they are of Heamonculi design, which even Archon's struggle to understand, even when explained to them by said heamonculus. This much, you know.

    >>18587666
well, we do know that there is a trick to getting past it, that messenger must have did something or carried something with him to let him pass.

If we don't know what that could be, we might as well shoot the trap and go in, aware of potential ambush

    >>18587624
The tunnel, admittedly, is just a mud-like substance. Your weapons however, consist of a small blade, and a splinter pistol, neither of which are really designed for such a task.

    ----

Taking the thief's blade, you use it to drag her pouch out of the trap towards you. The blade feels to get 'stuck' in the air for a fraction of a second as you move it in, however, after a moment, it is released, and you manage to stab the pouch with the blade, the easier to pull it back towards you. As you reel it in, you notice the spheres have swelled in size, and are making squelching noises. Once you've pulled the bag out of their influence, the spheroids reduce in size. A few of them, to your surprise, drop from the ceiling, and form a black snake-like form, which slithers away on the other side of the trap.
    >> First Time DM - Any feedback/criticism is welcomed 04/05/12(Thu)17:51 No.18587736
In addition, you notice that some of the scrap and debris on the floor is flesh, appearing to be leftovers from strange imaginative monstrosities.

    >>18587708
Ok then. I say we wave the sword inside the influence of the spheres, see if we can get some more to drop off. Otherwise, I think the only option here is to shoot them.

The white orbs seem to you like they could be containers of some sort, such containers are usually used for dangerous substances that can be seriously damaging to flesh, or poisons, or any of the like. The device used for opening doors appears to work on doors of most kinds, regardless of weather they are electronic, organic, or anything else. The vial, however mysterious, seems to contain a sorts of corrosive liquid. Not only that, but on closer inspection, there appear to be tiny swarms of something floating about in it.

So the orbs were containing what was in the vial, and when we moved the orbs, the spheres fell off. Ok. So, what I propose is that we refill the orbs with the thing in the vial, and then wave it around the rest of the spheres.

(you got a good roll there, and so...)

As you look closer, you realise that the small swarm inside the vial are not creatures, but some sort of micro-technology. They flit about inside the vial slowly, and as you watch, you notice small currents in the vial follow them around, and you make a guess that the swarm plays some part in 'guiding' the liquid. You think about when the liquid turned to gas, and suddenly realise you've seen this before. Once, you'd set a trap for a target within a passageway of an obsidian building. The target however, was highly alert, and although your trap was a decoy, and you snuck up behind him as he inspected it, you saw as he unleashed a small burst of purple gas that corroded the traps you set into nothing but slop, before you knifed him.

You quickly decide to utilise the vials contents, doing so you open the vial, and immediately the swarm shoots out like a bullet, and heads straight for the black spheroids. You hear a strange, deep gurgling noise as the now-gas makes contact, the spheres swell and gurgle as if they're in pain, and the vial flies straight through the passageway and shatters, one of the shards pierces one of the spheroids and it explodes violently, splattering the floor with a pink ooze, you, expecting danger, manage to dodge all of the mess flying around.

In front of you, the spheroids wriggle and make groaning, aching noises, like an old door that doesn't want to open. What do you do Syros?

As you move along the tunnel, you keep your eye out for more traps, however, minutes pass and nothing turns up. Eventually, you come to a room, inside the room is nothing special, just lots of waste material, a lot of it fleshy. You have a think, and come to the conclusion that you must have come in through some sort of back-door, which explains the lack of traps. Your original quarry is nowhere to be found, but as you ascend some stairs at the end of the tunnel, you realise you're exactly where you wanted to be; inside the Heamonculus' lair.

You look around, and find yourself in a room full of torture equipment, though no heamonculi or wracks appear close by. When you hear a sharp intake of breath, you look around again sharply, only to spot one of the heamonculi's victim's cowering in a corner. He appears to be human, and almost untouched by the Heamonculus, save for his muscles being grossly out of proportion. It seems like this victim was intended to become a grotesque, but it appears he somehow managed to escape his captor. This could have either his own luck helping him, or it could simply be his captor allowing him some hope, before crushing it out of him. But for now, he looks upon you, terrified, pleading with his eyes to be left alive.

    What will you do Syros?

    >> First Time DM - Any feedback/criticism is welcomed 04/05/12(Thu)20:23 No.18589248
In regards to your armour, he's basically got a liquifier gun, and your armour would, in game terms, give you a 6+ save, so your armour doesn't help at all, unfortunately. In regards to salvaging some equipment as a shield, there is a large sheet of metal just leant against the wall, probably for if the heamonculus needed some extra raw material.

I'm actually really enjoying this game. I think next time it might be best for you to adopt a trip (not the guy who said this above, but he's right) Otherwise, I think you're doing a good job. I think this whole module went relatively according to plan, but you SHOULD NOT count on that happening again. Because we didn't have a lot of people in the room, I think it was fairly calm, but in other games, you might have to choose between a bunch of suggestions for the character's next action, in which case, rolls are probably the best way to do things. All in all, I'm new to /tg/ (from /fit/ and /v/) and I feel like this was a lot of fun.

As you ask the human if he can take you to the Heamonculus, you pass him your coat, which, as it turns out, is too small for his exaggerated musculature. However, you manage to find some cloth-like material that you drape around him as best you can. He thanks you, and tells you his name is Dimitri, and that he can indeed show you the way to the Heamonculus' room, so long as you keep an eye out for any danger.

After stealthily moving across the corridors, sneaking past open doors, hiding behind doors, etc, you get to the stairwell that leads up to the master heamonculi's quarters. Demitri stops you here.

"You should be careful, sometimes, he has traps set for intruders. Not always, but sometimes, when his paranoia get's the better of him"

You curtly nod in acknowledgement of his warning, and as you both climb the stairs, you keep your eyes peeled for anything that may waylay you. Just before you reach the top of the stairs, you can't help but stop, because there, the wall had vanished, and in it's place was a plateau of stone. Beyond this plateau, you could see the sprawling spires of Commorragh, and it's stolen suns, and... funnily enough, there was the Heamonculus himself, stood out upon the plateau, Scourge flying out in front of him.

    What do you do, Syros?

As you ponder how best to take out the Heamonculus, you suddenly notice something flicking behind him, a flight of hellions are taking the fight to the Scourge in the air in front of the lair, ruthlessly cutting them down with splinter pod fire and vicious swings with their hefty blades in close quarters. As soon as the last syllable was done, there was an almighty clap like thunder mixed with scraping stone, and for a split second a disc of blackness surrounded the hellions. When it vanished, the hellions skyboards rocketed away at random, their pilots either gone or left dead on their vehicles. Guts fell from the sky in front of the Heamonculus, who began to bellow with laughter uncontrollably at the onslaught caused by his Dark Gate.

Demitri realises in an instant, as do you, that this is your chance. As you pull up your splinter pistol, ready to fire, you decided to take out one of your white orbs, you briefly check the contents through a small readout you found after sliding part of it away, and you grin maliciously as you realise exactly what was contained inside it.

Demitri stands up with a roar, and tackled the heamonculus, grasping all of the augmented Eldar's arms to his side, standing on his spinal cords that writhe at his feet, holding him still and crushing him if possible. The dark gate falls to the ground.

Whilst all this happens, you very carefully use an air-tight tube to transfer the contents from the white orb into your pistol.

You have two shots with this ammo.

    Make it count.
