Or, I'm tired of these muthafucking Outsiders in my muthafucking reality!

    >Previous Threads:

Dan's psychic investigation of Anna's apartment continues. After getting a psychic read on her bathroom, he decided to rebuild the communion circle she has on her floor, and manages to contact the Red Star directly. After the conversation going no where for a while, the Red Star conference call's Anna, and the conversation proceeded to go further nowhere.

You get up and step out of the circle, which Blackstone covers back up with the rug, and the two detectives take a moment to pop their ears. "Well, that was productive." You say, to no-one in particular. "Maybe not for you, but I think I learned some things," Says Blackstone. "Oh?" "Yep, combining that conversation with the stuff you told be about from the psychic juju, I can say that the running theory about the influence is almost certainly correct." Detective Howard manages to get his thoughts together enough to say "That the one where a slightly irrational Anna makes a deal she really shouldn't, egged on by her new imaginary friend, which results in a more irrational Anna more likely to end up making more deals she shouldn't?" "That's the one." Blackstone nods. "So, forcibly severing the connection should make her less hellbent on ending the world?" Philips asks, rubbing her temples. "Also true."

"Hey, boss, I have a question..." You say, looking back to the rug where the circle is hidden. "Why was the Red Star so... cartoony? Are they all like that?" Blackstone gives a small shake of his head. "Naw, hoss. It's a matter of perception. You, being just one person, lack the mental capacity and fortitude to interact with something as big and alien as the Red Star directly. So, you mind filters it. That's how it speaks English in the first place, probably picked it up from how Anna interfaced with it to begin with." "So, what, my mind interprets him as a Saturday morning cartoon villain?" "Probably, a little bit. While you're influencing how the communication is interpreted, how he communicates is also influenced, which is just as much cause by Anna as you. We all heard him the same way, because you were the one sitting in the Commune circle."

"We should have another look at the journal. The way she talked about it, it might be helpful, though she seemed to think I wouldn't have enough time to use it." You say. "*You* probably wouldn't," replies Blackstone, "Which is why I gave it to professor Ellsworth last night. It's her field after all. I haven't spoken with her in a while, I was studying some complex ward theories. If the police," He shoots a glance at the detectives, who both raise their eyebrows, "Don't need anything else, I can give her a call." Detective Howard shrugs, "If you don't think you can pick anything else up, you can do whatever. You've both given us some useful stuff if this makes it to a court case, but given the extenuating circumstances, I'm not sure the DA would swing for that." Blackstone nods at them, and walks out of the room, pulling his phone from his pocket.

Phone? Phone! That's right, you almost forgot. You told the others to send you texts when they did something worth knowing about. You pull out your own phone, and find maybe a half a dozen texts from a few different people. Bascially, Huan and Jeanne got Anya, and Roxane went to check on her robots, and now all of them are back together in the room the Evoker's Club has.

You walk off into the next room, giving a bit of a nod to the detectives, who take some time to peel back the rug and take some photos of the circle. You look around for Blackstone, and find him putting his phone back in his pocket. "Hey, Professor. Hope you don't mind if I tag along? I'd kind of like to see what Professor Ellsworth has to say about the notes." He turns back to you and frowns a little. "Professor E isn't picking up her cell or office phones. Knowing her, she studied the damn thing all night and fell asleep." He thinks for a second. "C'mon, there's enough room for me to step into my office. I'll check the faculty directory, see if I can find her and ask her. Might take me a while to run her down." He glances up from thinking to look at you directly. "You should at least check in with your friends, I can call you if she knows anything useful." You shrug. "Whatever works, boss. You are kind of my ride."

Blackstone grips his staff in both hands, mutters his spell, and draws another slash in the air, opening up that void in space as he does, and he walks on through.

Not thinking of anything (Okay, you thought of some things but they don't seem very helpful), you decide to follow the professor through the slice in spacetime, remembering to close your eyes as you go. Again, you hear a chorus of whispers and a deathly cold, but only for a heartbeat or two, then you're on the other side.

You open your eyes to find yourself in the familiar spaces of Blackstone's office, full of his various occult and professor things, candles, books, various knick-knacks. And his display case which holds Excalibur. An idea strikes you as he closes the rift. "Hey, can I borrow your-" He doesn't let you finish. "You a king?" "I...don't...think so?" You reply. "Then probably not."
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)18:04 No.18587882
    Anything for you, Omega.

It was a D&D game I played a few years ago, the party consisted of myself as a Bard/Sorc, a paladin, a druid, and a monk. The BBEG of this particular campaign was an evil sorceress, the kind that wore cuts so low you could see her bellybutton.

It was the second time we had come into an actual direct conflict with her, and after we beat her she used a magic circle to teleport herself away. I decided we could probably use the magic circle to teleport after her, and spent a few hours studying it and how to use it. The DM had me roll some percentile for how far off I would be, looked over his notes, and then kind of chuckled.

We were teleported directly into her personal bedroom, rather than the throne room we were aiming for. She wasn't there, but we took some time to look around anyway since we figured we might find something to beat her with, like a journal detailing her one weakness or something. Well, we tore the place apart, but we didn't find anything like that. Just a few magical trinkets that weren't terribly useful to an adventuring party (earrings of prestidigitation to keep one constantly clean for example).
    >> El_Nazgir 04/05/12(Thu)18:04 No.18587883
but damn if we ain't got the air of a king! Or maybe...
we gotta phone dad later on and *ghasp* find out we're a long descendant of king arthur! Or some other random king!
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)18:06 No.18587894

So we're just about to leave when I realize that I'm the party bard, and as such I have carte blanche to do perverted stuff! So, after being unable to find a Rod of Vibration, I go for the next best thing and just take her entire underwear drawer. Not one pair, I just shove the whole thing into a bag of holding.

So we go through, kill a bunch of her minions, set up an ambush and are waiting for her to teleport back so we can fight again and I figure, "Hey we got a couple hours, right? I'm gonna use that time to take out a needle and thread and start making a suit."
"A suit? Where would you get the materials to-ohfuck. Please tell me you're not gonna-"
"Yup. And I got a 16 on the craft check."

And so I fought the evil sorceress wearing not much other than her underwear. The DM thought it was so funny he gave her a circumstantial minus to a single will save against me of my choice due to sheer embarrassment.

You decide to leave it. I mean, you have no idea what happens if the wrong person touches faerie-made swords. Not seeing anything else in the room you're immediately curious about, you turn back to Blackstone. "So, were are you going to look first?" He frowns a little, stroking his chin. He actually looks a bit like he could use a shave. "I think I'll just walk down to her office and see if she isn't in. From there I can use the University directory to find her if she's on campus." Not thinking of anything else to say to Blackstone, you bid him a quick farewell, and exit his office, eventually finding yourself in the Evoker's Club room, which is a bit crowded with nine people, but not uncomfortably so. Anya is present, in addition to everyone else, who were all just mulling about, having idle conversation. As you enter, the clock ticks over to 10:30 AM.

You decide to get to the enchanting, but first to check on Roxy. You walk on by her, and look over her shoulder, as she absent-mindedly fiddles with her phone. "What're you working on?" You ask. She responds without looking up. "Oh, just checking on my little guys. I did some down-and-dirty programming to their little central hub computer, using the University's Wi-fi. If they get a hit, they'll tell their hub, and it'll send me a text with the coordinates, which I can put into google maps." "Handy." You say. "Yeah, if the little guys can find her. Their AI isn't designed for such large areas, but not much else I can do. I'm good with networks and signals, not the actual AI tech. I used an Amaze! co. Labs box AI for the foundation." You stare blankly at her, for effect. She does look up at you now. "Oh, right, your field of study is Social Sciences. Okay, so, Enchantment options, for the shoelaces, of which there are two

-One, you can spend 1 WP, and you reduce falling damage you take when you land on your feet (if making an uncontrolled fall, still need to roll Body+Athletics or Coo+Agility to land on feet) by total width on your Mind+Occult check (all sets count). And since you're landing on your feet, if the reduced amount is less than the distance you'd take no falling on, you take no damage anyway.
-Or, you can spend 3 WP, and have the shoelaces basically as a foci-based miracle. You will gain your highest width in hard dice in a Gliding useful power, which entitles you do how ever many dice that is in maximum movement in a slow glide downwards per tern.
    >> El_Nazgir 04/05/12(Thu)20:38 No.18589396

    (3 WP Spent!)
    (2x2 on Occult)
(Your shoe laces have 2hd in a Useful Speed power, which means you have a Glide speed of 5 yards in one turn. Only works when your feet aren't on the ground)

That's nice but how much use will it be tonight? I don't think Anna's going to sneak-attack us, that wouldn't prove she was superior. We can always do it later when the world isn't about to end and we can afford to spend willpower more freely.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)22:19 No.18590340
No, but some of her minions might defy her orders and try in a misguided attempt to gain her favor.
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 04/05/12(Thu)22:21 No.18590355

    She has minions?

Well, okay, she does have the ability to Summon/Bind certain creatures, you know that. But those servitors didn't seem particularly intelligent. Or sneaky. Or, not terrifying aliens.

Honestly, is it worth the WP to do something to bump Dan from 7 to 8 dice in a situation that... hasn't really happened much?

So, no real plans for Foci? Alright, well, now I need to come up with somewhere for this to go for another couple of updates, before calling it.

Done with your project, you step back from the enchanter, and join the others at the table in the middle. You sit next to Roxy and prop your feet up on the desk, showing off your bitching new shoelaces. Johnny raises an eyebrow at you. "This is what you've been working on all this time?" "Yep." You say, simply. "Long as I have the shoelaces in, I can fall with style." Jeanne looks at them from where she's sitting, then back to you. "Force reduction?" "Nah, more of a cushioning effect, I think. The intent is to be able to glide with them. I wont move very fast, but it's very hard for me to be pitched out of a building now." Roxane looks up from her phone again, and says "Normally, I'd think that was kind of excessive, but you're the only person I've ever met who was *actually* thrown from a building." When you turn in her direction to give her your attention when she speaks, you see the screen of her phone out of the edge of your vision. Looks like she's working on some kind of schematic drawing, or something.

Well, the Voice isn't really her minion, they both work for the same guy.

Also, it lacks physical substance, last time you checked.

Give a disappointedly agreeing sigh with the realization that these are a precaution which will actually likely get used, rather than the type that will likely never get used.

You sigh. "Yeah, that's kind of why I did it this way. Better to have and not need, and all that. Though I get the feeling I'll probably need it." You feel a headache coming on. That spot where you knocked your head throbs painfully, and you rub your temple. Anya speaks up, "You alright Dan? You don't look so good." Roxy frowns worriedly at you. "I'll be fine. Just smacked my head a little while ago, psychic stuff." "You hit your head because psychic stuff?" Asks Johnny. You open your eyes to stare at him for a second, then shrug. "Well, actually, yeah."

Jeanne glances over to the back of the room, then back to you. "Well, if you have a headache, we have a couch in the back. You can just catch a couple hours rest if you like." "Isn't that what you're not supposed to do with a concussion?" Says somebody, Naomi you think. Roxane leans forward and studies you intently. "Well, I'm no medical expert, but I don't think he's concussed. He's still pretty spry, and all. Just a banged head, I guess." You shrug, "Whatever, yeah, I'll take a couple hours. Don't let me sleep too long, guys." You stand up and walk over to the couch a ways back, take off your jacket and breastplate and throw them in the back, and lie down. Sleep overtakes you surprisingly quick.

You find yourself standing in a black, shapeless place, you yourself standing in what looks like a spotlight in the darkness. A familiar voice say, "Hello, Daniel. Let's chat."

    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)23:08 No.18590925
Which familiar voice? There are a lot of voices that are familiar to us.
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 04/05/12(Thu)23:11 No.18590963

A familiar voice. To find out which one, you'll have to tune in next time. Or check the tags for this thread on Sup/tg/. I left a clue there.

Anyway, we'll see if or for how long I do this friday. If I do, you'll see it with the special "Surprise" version of the OP image I have.

Now I'm packing it in, but I have some stuff to do, so if you get in some questions now, I might be able to answer them. If not, well, they'll probably go unanswered because I wont have time in the morning.

What's the horizontal:vertical ratio on the glide effect at room temperature and still air? Obviously it would change in the presence of thermals or wind, but what's the baseline that we're dealing with?
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)23:13 No.18590994
Most people familiar with us call us "Dan" not "Daniel". There aren't very many people who would contact us through a dream. Bearing in mind the weird time we fell asleep and that it started immediately I'm guessing it's Dr. M who seems to be constantly watching us. It might be Anna. I can't think of anyone other than those two.
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 04/05/12(Thu)23:15 No.18591014

You move a maximum of 5 yards in a combat round.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)23:16 No.18591025
Right, but how far do we descend for that movement? I'm trying to get an idea of the ratio, not the speed.
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 04/05/12(Thu)23:28 No.18591180

You move a maximum of 5 yards in a combat round.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)23:30 No.18591204
Yeah, but you're still not answering my question. When we move five yards horizontally, how much height does that cost us? After all, this is gliding, right? Not flight? Or do you mean that the linear distance, the hypotenuse of this motion/descent triangle is five yards?
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 04/05/12(Thu)23:33 No.18591248

You're asking for information I don't have. 2d of a Speed power means you move 5 yards a combat round.

I don't care if you move 4 yards over and 1 down, or vice versa, or anywhere in between. But you're not moving faster than 5 yards in a round. You, literally, will never fall any faster.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/12(Thu)23:37 No.18591303
Is there an (if/then) tied to it that keeps us from, say, moving straight up with it? Because that sounds more like levitation than gliding.
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 04/05/12(Thu)23:42 No.18591364

Nah, the useful is just "Gliding". So, you glide. And you cannot glide up. You're just falling with style.

I mean, if you want some kind of non-abstract, scientific idea of what this power does (Keeping in mind its magic, and you already to 7 impossible things before breakfast and all that) you're looking at the wrong guy. See post >>18588992

    >> Anonymous 04/06/12(Fri)00:05 No.18591606
How long is a combat round? As interesting as freely manipulatable magic glide ratios are, I'm more concerned how fast we're falling
