    763 KB ACCEPTABLE CASUALTIES OP 03/31/12(Sat)00:32 No.18522027
    Previous thread (Intermission)
    First thread

Welcome one and all to ACCEPTABLE CASUALTIES, a game of strife and conflict for the almighty dollar.

When we last left off, Soldier Two was in the medical bay recovering from his injuries. SigmaCorp soldiers are currently preparing for an assault on Akai-Ryu outpost nearby, and a flaw in Akai-Ryu security systems was revealed by the kidnapped Manager. Unencrypting PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR has been slow, and little progress has been made.

Because repeating myself is boring, you can learn the rest from the Intermission and the archived thread.

Anyways, shall we delve into the mind of a clone mercenary trying to carve out a spot for himself in this crazy world once more?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)00:35 No.18522101
Maybe I'll give a quick overview.

    Potential missions
    >SigmaCorp is currently planning an assault on an Akai-Ryu facility. This would leave both forces weak and could allow for a solid foothold in the area for Prometheus.

    >A shipment of Akai-Ryu equipment is going out via convoy soon, which could be intercepted for our benefit.

    >An Exodus spokesman is planning on speaking with the head of an independent technology firm. If they make a deal, they could become more effective in the area than Prometheus, which cannot be allowed. In addition, gaining the allegiance of the technology firm would be a large victory for Prometheus. Removal of the Exodus spokesman through either lethal or nonlethal means and replacing him with a Prometheus spokesman for the meeting would be the most desired outcome.

Choosing to complete one mission does not disallow another from taking place. Extra support could be requisitioned, but considering your comparably low ranking they would be under the jurisdiction of a different Team Leader.

For now, Soldier Two will be temporarily replaced with a Recruit from the Team Leader training program. He is not as well trained in direct combat, but he knows a bit about computer systems and will quickly become a very effective member of your team. Think of him as a sort of apprentice.

As always, access to the Prometheus armory and garage is open, as well as the interrogation chamber where the Manager and the powered armor soldier are being housed. The research lab is also available if you wish to speak to Dr. Andrews. You can suggest equipment improvements to her and her research team for them to focus on.

As before, I suggest taking the convoy mission. First, tell Dr. Andrews that a sonar module would be useful for stealth missions, and a more powerful electromagnetic round (or perhaps a grenade) would be great for dealing with powered armor, drones, or other targets relying heavily on electronics.

What do we know about the convoy mission?

Akai-Ryu vehicles containing large numbers of ammunition and weapons are being shipped to a new outpost that is under construction. Halting this shipment would cause them to be severely underpowered for any hostile action we would take against them in the near future. Expect APCs loaded with Akai-Ryu soldiers defending the shipment vehicles.

Can vehicles be disabled by electromagnetic rounds?
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)01:18 No.18522740
Potentially. However, a much more concentrated and powerful burst would be needed compared to the output of the basic handheld firearms that Prometheus provides.

    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)01:21 No.18522778
Vehicle mounted guns could be modified to fire electromagnetic weapons. It would take more work than the simple hot-fix that was performed in the previous mission, but would ultimately be more effective.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)01:22 No.18522795
    We should do that, then.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)01:27 No.18522855
With some effort, Andrews thinks she can develop a system to enable the APC's weapons to be able to switch between high powered electromagnetic rounds and regular ammunition with ease. It will take a few hours, but the mechanics are sure they can accomplish it.

    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)02:03 No.18523270
The team heads down to the firing ranges. Everyone puts a healthy dose of rounds downrange. The Recruit starts off a bit inaccurate, but with a few tips on form from Soldier One he quickly improves. He may not know much, but he learns rapidly. Predictably, the Hacker doesn't hit a whole lot.

Moving to the hacking test labs, a quick overview of network systems from the Hacker has the Recruit breaching the dummy terminals in no time. His ability to learn new skills is extremely impressive. They must have crammed his head full of extra neurons in the cloning process. He'll make a fine Team Leader indeed, someday.

The Practice Offices. Location of many a training exercise. Fresh clone soldiers get pushed through dozens of competitive events daily until they master the art of combat. The Recruit surprised you by hacking the control server for the test room and downloading the blueprints, giving your team a huge advantage. What is with this kid, anyways? You've got to ask Andrews about him sometime, see what his deal is. A healthy victory for you, and a trip back to the training grounds for the other team.

Oh, and is Two conscious while undergoing regeneration?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)02:19 No.18523403
At this time, Two is currently conscious. He will need to be put back under in a relatively short amount of time, but he is capable of conversation for now.

You meet Andrews in the garage as her and the mechanics make the necessary modifications to the APC machine gun. You ask her about the Recruit, about how he seems kind of off. He's unnaturally good at retaining skill. She leads you from the garage into a small office, where she tells you not to say anything about this conversation. The Recruit is a test subject for some experimental neural hardware they have developed. It boosts one's ability to learn and develop new skills, but a lot of the bugs still need to be worked out. That's your true mission: Beta test the Recruit's implant, and tell Andrews if there are any glitches. She insists that you have to keep this a secret because they suspect that there may be a mole in the company, and this technology can't leak into another corporation's hands.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)02:21 No.18523417
Ask if any of the bugs could threaten the mission or the team.

    Convoy mission
Since this is just a sabotage mission, and acquiring the goods would just be a bonus, we could simply plant explosives along their projected route and destroy the freight vehicles.
There would be no need to actually engage them in combat.

Although, the fact that Akai-Ryu is stocking up for an assault on Sigma, we might actually prefer if they do so with as much power as possible, meaning that the convoy intercept might be detrimental in the long run.

We COULD use this as an opportunity to gain good grace with Sigma though, if our superiors would want to.

I vote we do the Exodus representative elimination.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)02:24 No.18523440
She claims that she has absolutely no idea. It is all completely untested. They need to run it in the field to figure all of that out. She apologizes, saying it wasn't her decision. The Regional Manager said your team was just the right combination of capable and expendable to perform the tests.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)02:26 No.18523457
The convoy's running through a residential area. Using explosives could cause collateral damage.

Agree to keep the Recruit's augmentation a secret. Speak with Two, and ask how he's holding up.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)02:31 No.18523502
Heading down to the Medical Bay, you find Soldier Two sitting upright on a medical bed. He is covered in bandages, and a biometric scanner is attached to his chest. What confuses you for a moment is that the Recruit is doing some medical work on Soldier Two's left arm. Considering the situation, your trust wanes slightly. Soldier Two greets you, saying he's been better. He says he really got shafted on that one. Two always was a bit of a joker. The doctors say he'll be operational by tomorrow. Thank Two for soaking up all the fire so we could shut down the soldier. Commend his durability and courage. Tell him we can't wait to have him back on the team, because our next mission is assaulting a ladder factory.

I still suggest we take the convoy mission first, because the weapons will be extremely helpful.

    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)03:29 No.18523925
Anyways, let's keep the story moving and hopefully people join us along the ride.

The team steps into the garage just as the mechanics finish up the last bits of work on the machine gun. It can now change from electromagnetic to regular fire and back on the flip of a switch. The APC pulls out and heads towards the convoy. On the way, the Hacker runs diagnostics on his Prometheus Remote Hacking Device to ensure the new upgrades work just fine. Soldier One does a bit of last minute adjustment on his rifle scope. The Recruit watches the two of them perform these tasks in silence. You can just feel him absorbing the information. You hope to god that he doesn't glitch out in the middle of the mission and get someone killed. This is ridiculous that you've been forced into this position. You shake your head. The convoy is just up ahead. One large cargo truck, an APC on either end. Scans show a light air recon vehicle above. Large numbers of civilians on the streets and in the surrounding apartments.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)03:35 No.18523960
    >Scans show a light air recon vehicle above

Okay, that's a problem. Can the APC's weapon hit the LARV? If so, would it be possible to do just enough damage, either with regular munitions or electromagnetic, to force it to land (not crash)?

Can we call for air support?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)03:37 No.18523974
The target would be very difficult to hit due to buildings, the high speed of the target, and the limited range of the APC's turret. Air support can be requisitioned if deemed necessary.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)03:40 No.18524006
I deem it necessary. Without a good anti-air weapon, we're at the mercy of the LARV unless we have air power of our own.

The objective of our own LARV is twofold: To keep the enemy LARV from acquiring the APC, and to force it into our line of fire.

What are LARVs armed with, again?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)03:42 No.18524026
LARVs are armed with a light machine gun very similar to the one on the APC. As a result, it would be a simple conversion to have the electromagnetic firing capability that the APC uses. It would slightly delay the arrival of air support, but may yield a far more effective form of support.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)03:44 No.18524043
Perform the conversion. Meanwhile, let's keep the APC from being noticed.

Is the Hacker able to interface with the enemy LARV or any of the convoy vehicles?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)03:47 No.18524052
Currently, he is within range to provide radar disruption which would significantly prevent detection of the APC. In closer proximity, weapons systems and other external electronics can be manipulated.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)03:48 No.18524062
    Engage radar disruption.

Is the LARV capable of acting as a relay for the hacking module? If not, I suppose the only way for the Hacker to get close enough to the enemy LARV would be to get to the top floor of a building.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)03:50 No.18524079
The Hacker could potentially board the Prometheus LARV and perform hacking support that way.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)03:56 No.18524139
Once the LARV's modifications are complete, the APC will rendezvous with it and the Hacker will board. The maximum level of stealth will be used. Our LARV will then attempt to get close enough to the enemy LARV for the Hacker to shut down its weapons and cause its sensors to experience a fault that will force it to land.

If the attempt is successful, the enemy LARV will be secured by the remainder of the team.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)04:03 No.18524202
The LARV will prep for rendezvous with an ETA of 5 minutes. The Hacker successfully breaches the radar and erases any presence of the APC. He also gains access to their commlink frequency. The driver says they will reach the base in 30 minutes. They will be exiting the residential district in 10 minutes. From that point on, collateral damage will be negligible.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)04:06 No.18524218
This is good for one reason but bad for another. Is it probable that the base will attempt to reinforce the convoy if it sends a distress signal?

I should have asked this before, but what exactly is the extraction plan for the convoy if we happen to capture its vehicles? Do we just drive back to our own base?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)04:09 No.18524256
If a distress signal is received, reinforcements will attempt to secure the convoy. However, considering that their main supplies are IN the convoy, they would be poorly equipped.

There is a dropoff site for the truck 10 minutes north from their base where their materials can be safely offloaded.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)04:12 No.18524275
Would it be acceptable for us to secure the base itself as well, or are our orders to handle the convoy only?

In any case, let's advance to the time of the rendezvous.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)04:18 No.18524333
The Regional Manager likes your ambition. He says with ideas like that you'll be on the fast track to promotion.

The Hacker ascends a rope ladder onto the LARV. It takes off towards the enemy LARV, concealing its radar presence. However, the radar suddenly goes off, detecting enemies. The Hacker has the LARV pull back, which just happened to be a stroke of good luck. An anti-air rocket hits the Akai-Ryu LARV and sends it spiraling into a nearby building. The convoy starts to haul ass and their radios go berserk. Two SigmaCorp Fast Attack Vehicles pop out of alleys and begin firing on the APCs. Things just got a lot more complicated.

Other player, do you wish to save the convoy? I plan to attack the lead FAV anyway, so that we can secure the Rocket Launcher and prevent our LARV from being destroyed.

For now, direct our LARV to the SigmaCorp crash site. Keep it out of the lead FAV's line of fire. The Hacker is to secure the copilot for interrogation. Does the LARV's interior contain a handheld weapon for emergency use?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)04:39 No.18524525
All pilots and copilots are equipped with handguns in case of emergency. It is safe to assume that the targeted copilot will be armed, but considering his injuries will be in no condition to fight back.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)04:41 No.18524539
    >up to us
ffff... On the one hand, this is pretty much Akai-Ryu's last chance at this territory, if we let them get taken out we could capture their holdings.
That would make us a bigger target, though.
If we save them, it will foster a great deal of good will since they don't loose their hold of the region
However they would question why we were there and having good relations might not be a good thing since they're probably at least as sneaky as we are...

I say we only intervene if the cargo truck gets threatened. Let Sigma do our dirty work for us then destroy them. We can decide whether to deliver the truck to Akai-Ryu or not after we've secured the cargo.
If we want to save the transport we should not react too fast or we might arouse more suspicion than is advisable.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)04:41 No.18524541
Good. Have the Hacker make his intention to render medical attention clear. Once the copilot has been stabilized, of course, he is to be restrained.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)04:43 No.18524559
So, shall we have the APC hang back for now? I do want to make sure we can pick up the SigmaCorp Rocket Launcher for study, so let's hope the lead FAV doesn't explode.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)04:47 No.18524589
Yes, I say we hang back.
We could and should continue any activity that does not risk our detection, though. So LARV rescue is still a-ok

I doubt the FAV will explode, we could enter the free for all but I'd rather risk the loss of the RL than have to face both groups at once.

    We're agreed, then.

This will also give us the opportunity to see if SigmaCorp has any other forces in the vicinity that will come to the aid of their initial attack force.

The LARV swings by the crash site. The Hacker and copilot emerge to provide medical care to any injured people they find. This has an added bonus of creating tons of positive PR for Prometheus. The Akai-Ryu copilot is taken onboard with little fuss.

The lead FAV's rocket launcher opens up fire again, disabling the APC in the rear. A few surviving soldiers climb out of the wreckage and fire at the FAV, but it is mostly ineffectual. The second FAV begins exchanging fire with the lead APC. Damage to the APC's armor is dealt, but far more is done to the FAV. It pulls back to avoid casualties.

Has there been any further collateral damage from the battle?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)04:58 No.18524683
Stray rounds damaged a few local vehicles. A handful of injured pedestrians. Otherwise, surprisingly little.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:01 No.18524699
Maintain distance from the convoy. Let's see how this progresses.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)05:08 No.18524759
The damaged FAV leaves the scene. Akai-Ryu are still unable to send out a distress signal. The remaining FAV finally immobilizes the damaged APC. The convoy comes to a screeching halt. Soldiers pile out and fire at the FAV. It comes to a stop as well. A squad of soldiers in powered armor exit the vehicle. They gun down the Akai-Ryu troops with ease. What appears to be their Team Leader rips the driver out of the supply truck and executes him with his handgun. The rocket launcher soldier gets in the passenger seat and the other two latch onto the back. It takes a sharp turn to the left and drives off at high speed.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:10 No.18524774
Well, that was faster than I expected. Is it possible for our LARV to acquire the lead FAV and disable it as well as the passengers, quickly enough that it is not exposed to rocket fire?
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:12 No.18524781
Never mind, I misread. The lead FAV is now unoccupied, isn't it?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)05:14 No.18524795
I believe I made a mistyping in the previous post. The powered armour squad is inhabiting the cargo truck. The FAV is accompanying them. This doesn't change much, however.

The Hacker can potentially disable the rocket launcher's ability to lock onto targets, drastically reducing its effectiveness. Once this has been accomplished, the LARV can make short work of the lightly armored FAV.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)05:16 No.18524809
No, wait, I'm confusing myself here. The FAV would be unoccupied. I need to get my thoughts straight. I apologize for this.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:17 No.18524811
Excellent. The LARV will take the FAV. The APC will chase the cargo truck and use its mounted gun to disable the armor of the soldiers hanging onto the back.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:17 No.18524815
    >power armour

Well, we can't let sigma get the supplies, that'd give them an edge we can't allow them to get.
Set up an intercept course, preferably one that intercepts from the side rather than a direct chase.
If we can set up an intercept course from the side, consider ramming the truck with our APC. Might stun the soldiers and give us an edge we would need against them.

Priority objective: Resource denial, destroy the cargo if necessary
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:18 No.18524819
    Never mind again.

At least your video game should benefit from visuals, and this'll get a lot easier.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:19 No.18524829
Our electromagnetic rounds can disable vehicles and power armor. The Hacker can as well, if he's close enough. We shouldn't need to ram the truck.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)05:21 No.18524841
And in the short term, my drawfaggotry should clear a few things up next time.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:39 No.18524927
    Alright, so, are we continuing?
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)05:41 No.18524937
It's getting to be about that time where I should get some sleep so that I'm not a zombie tomorrow. I'll continue the quest tomorrow night, and this time with drawings! Discover the gripping conclusion to the Cargo Truck Caper! Find more about the Recruit's shady past! Discover the true meaning behind PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR! All on tomorrow night's episode of ACCEPTABLE CASUALTIES!

That's basically my way of saying I'll pick this up tomorrow night, and by then I'll be way more prepared and less sleep-deprived.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/12(Sat)05:43 No.18524951
Okay. I'll archive this. Hopefully we'll get more people in the next installment.
    >> OP 03/31/12(Sat)05:44 No.18524956
I do seem to have bad luck with that, don't I? Hmm, maybe the addition of drawings will lure more people in.

Make sure you save all the images. For some reason, in the latest archived threads most or all of the images return 404.

Damn shame, I would have enjoyed a quest about chatting with your coworkers around the watercooler and managing in-office relationships in your quest to get promoted.
