    Fall of 646 ,

    We find ourselves at Sylvia with a handful of our forces. Stationed in the halls of a rather undernoted academy. Gustav meanwhile attended to the defense of Heaven's gate while we pick off what's left.

    The people of Sylvia took well to our presence, but in their hearts stirred a misgiving for their own lot. Between us and the soldiers however was an understanding, they didn't want the war on their doorstep.

    And yet there it was,

    A kashirn fortress was collapsed right before our eyes, and it was not going to leave anytime soon.
    Inside maybe soldiers, a deathgod and maybe even Hassan. But one thing is sure, we have the place surrounded, and no one will be getting out of there for a while.

    Adding to our ranks of the dead are the Haunts , deployable through a corpsier.

    Ghosts may be called and summoned for the price of 4 terror through a Corpsier logistic attachment or may be sired for 1 terror from a deceased soldier.

    Possession rules:
    When a Haunt possesses a target, said target must make general eye contact to the Haunt's direction.

    Using prank allows the otherwise invisible haunt to possess an INAMINATE object and make it perform a single action.

    The function of this is to generate terror or cause unease to their victims

    When a haunt possesses an individual, they may make them act is if [botting] that unit. They cannot however engage in acts that would directly hurt their host as Haunts are rather receptive of their possee's experience. The shock of pain or death may even undo them, in fact and Haunts will disengage from their targets as soon as this becomes a certainty.

    Haunts may also choose to make their possessees act during Enemy Phase.

    The only way to repel or fight a haunt, is to simply unmask their presence by shining a light source on them if a shadow is revealed- a Haunt maybe fired upon and defeated in this manner, so be careful of searchlights, twitchy patrolmen, or even windows.

    Kraus walks down the main hall of the little academy, craning her neck to look at the building. To anyone else, it would be a fairly simple place not worth much comment, but to her it had massive ceilings, gorgeous tile floors, and elaborate trimmings like she'd never seen before. Wearing nothing more on her chest than the bandages covering the wounds she took, she exits the building, taking a moment to feel the warm summer air on her skin. Stalking behind the academy to the stables, she looks for the ritter Elfriede.

    "Hey, that was some impressive stuff you did back there, hacking up that bitch's whole arm from wyvernback! You really are somethin' else. I'm inspired to pick up a sword to be by your side, but then I figure who would be left patch up your mount?" she says with a playful smile "Do you think maybe I could ride one of your wolves, though? That way I could at least keep up with you while you tear across the battlefield"

    At the head of Iceheart's quarters was a box.

    Various ammo crates of dosiers and financial forms inside.

    At the bottom of the third crate was the semi automatic holster and all. It smelled vaguely of coffee before the musk of old wood overpowered it.

    Knowing that you will most likely die does a lot to bring you closer to a character. A person is born from their struggles, and here in Ironhearts, all we have our our struggles. Most of the time we start with very little in the way of character, because we know they could get hit by a mortar shell on the first turn. But just that little seed grows with every mission when they do survive. Every bullet whizzing by their head, every wound that they survive, every comrade they see fall, is like water upon a tree, making it thrive and grow tall. In between the spaces, those breaks before you face the possibility of the chopping block once more, you connect to your fellow soldiers, and expand upon yourself. We start with nothing, and slowly create the cast you see today.

    The ones you see in this thread with the similar portraits, those are npc's. This is a cutscene, of sorts, you see. Deathmarshal, and anyone with those portraits is the DM. Anyone else is a player. Players will often take these non-combat threads to interact with each other, or simply type out fluff, soldiers worries and ponderings. There isn't a whole lot of that yet in this thread, because it is very late, and most people are burnt out from the battle.

    If you want to join, you could even do so right now, or at the next battle. There is always room for more, whether you know they plot or not. After all, the average soldier doesn't know the exact history of their battalion. You can read the 1d4chan page, too, for more information.

    So yes, I suppose we all made it up as we go along. But isn't that how you, as a human were made? We all start as blank slates as children, and over time, we become the wonderful and complex people we are today.

    It takes some time for the doktor's cheerful greeting to process in Elfriede's sleeping mind. Finally, she opens one eye, searching for the source of the voice, and lifts her head from where it was previously pillowed by her white wolf's flank to aid her search. Once spotting the playfully smiling doktor, she opens her other eye, blinks, and springs to her armored feet to address her.

    "It is good to see you alive, doktor. I had thought you dead, which is, for obvious reason, a failure of a thought. I recognize my failing and therefore, will be sure to correct it."

    Elfriede turns to the giant white wolves resting on the floor behind her and after a moment spent silently exchanging inquiring glances with them, beckons one over.

    She turns back to the doktor as the giant white wolf she summoned from the ranks pads up and settles beside her.

    "Consider your request granted as my thanks to you." Elfriede indicates the white wolf at her side, "She shall be your companion henceforth."

    Burkhard over the course of the day, and the week learnt two things. Maybe three. Fire is really painful, hospitals are not all they are cracked up to be, and there must be some manner of god because he was very sure for the most part that he was dead. Apparently not, despite the fact that he vividly remembered the ground exploding in front of him and bathing him and Fredrick in fire he woke up some time later, in a fullbody cast, in a hospital

    "This was a terrible idea." Chided Fredrick, in a similar suituation to Burkhard. "Why did I even listen to you when you wanted us to drive foward"
    "How is this my fault?"
    "I'm in a full body cast, and it hurts to move, I would slap you if I could though."
    Burkhard sighed "Cool yourself down Fredrick. We are alive and not permenantly crippled, that is better then any of the alternatives."

    Sergent Tao wanders the base for most of the day assisting however he can in his smaller form, be it transporting goods as a miniature truck or helping catch game as a small Iron Skull, there is a definite improvement in his mood. As night falls and the horseman's body forms he ceases his assistance and makes his way to the fresh battle field that is Sylvia, listening to the echos of the souls that have passed on there. Lost in idle thought he unconsciously calls out to them to join him, asking their permission to finish the battle they could not.

    = The Assassin's Calling Card =

    Assassins were the underpinning factors to Voss succession lines. As shadowy groups, a few represented the strong wills and codes of their clan while others moved to the force of the coin.

    Nevertheless, their method of working is the same. Swift, effecient, and above all else faultless. Assassins end the lives of many untouchable people and can spare the courtesy to claim credit for it, or implicate uninvolved parties entirely.

    To become an assassin, spend an NCA to contact the head of any of these shadowy groups and request an initiation , a test, or perhaps insult them. Either way the result is that their operatve will surely appear during the next battle, and end your life there.

    It is your job to pass this test by succeeding this would-be assassin's title. Good luck.

    The most basic requirements to play are the type of unit, a name, and a trip to make sure you keep control of your character. I've included the different stat sheets for the infantry units utilized by the Voss Royal Guard. Officers have really long gibberish tags, so unless you want to play one don't be intimidated by, for example, my designation. Usually they're much simpler, like [R1] or similar.

    To roll, type dice+XdY in the e-mail field, where x is the number of dice and y is the number of sides the dice has. here in IH we use d10s, so for example you want to roll 3 d10s, type these in your e-mail field:

    As for the number of dice you need to roll, it depends on your unit type and weapon. For example, Kriegers has burst machineguns which is described with 5x3 in their unit card, right?     The Ragnyll faction started to look a little too badass
    so a lot of dwarfing and messing with proportions had to happen in order for them to match the Voss spriting style.

    However unique characteristics of each soldier was necessary and Ragnyll tends to place a bit more importance to their individual units- as they are an army driven on the principles of civic duty as opposed to the will of the collective.

    Here's my thoughts: by default, the head could be quite bland looking--maybe come up with a series of 3 heads--helmetless w/ hair, helmetless without hair, and helmeted. The first design should have a measure of asexualtiy--that is to say, indistinguishable if the gender is male or female. Specialized heads can be made further on, to account for squadmate's gender or general appearance.

    Ideally, the heads are crafted in such a manner that they can easily be mixed and match on sprite bodies.

However when braced against something, and given proper vantage points, Kriegers can lance oncoming threats, nipping them at the bud right away. The Krieger overwatch does not waste rounds, however it will no fire if all rounds are expended.

    Alfie sat atop her Beetl tank, in deep thought over what Fran had told her about it. Was Axel's spirit really inside of it? It seemed a bit far fetched, but then again, she was fighting in an army that regularly employed ghouls, midians, werewolves, and a whole host of other supernatural creatures in combat. Plus, there was no way Fran could have known about Axel. He had "died" well before the Sylvia missed.

    Still, things started add up when she thought about it, like how the tank operated just as smoothly as it had ever been, despite the fact that it was only her manning the controls now, how the engine seemed to respond in just the right way, and how the cannon would always seem to make a subtle, last minute adjustment on its own.

    She was still a bit skeptical, but this Beetl had been with her for years, fighting alongside her in almost every battle yet. Even if her brother's spirit wasn't in it, the tank itself could be considered family as well.

    Some time later, if anybody happened to take a glance at the Beetl, they would notice something different. Stenciled on the side of the tank in very neat, white letters was the word "Axel".

    Looks like there are two entrances--I'm assuming those dark-red areas. We secure those, we should be able to secure entrance into the temple.

    Some things to take note of are the high towers and lots of windows. Keep your wits about you; we could be in for a lot of sniper fire and artillery--anything from machine guns to cannons. In addition, because of this site's significance to the Kashir, we should be ready to combat any of their shamans, if we can get to them.
