Tick-tock, tick-tock, the hours slip away...
I sit here wondering where I went astray.
This Quest was originally slated to be fifty threads long.
Instead, we're ending up fighting everything from Kane to King Kong.
Yet as I sit down to start another session of chaos,
I realize I STILL have to go through and update the... summary... oas.

    Shit.

    Short Summary:
You are assaulting MetPharm, a corporation run secretly by Mother Brain, and despised by X-COM NOVA. You are taking advantage of a NOVA attack to break into the labs of their HQ and attempt to steal back the three Sacred Gems of Hyrule before MetPharm can figure out how to use them.

Your forces have successfully defeated Samus, who still weak from her bonding with the Chozo Suit, was able to be beaten and talked down by Spike. You also let loose a Yellow Devil in the Secure Specimen Storage chamber. You retreated, and the Devil responded by going on a rampage, breaking open more and more specimens in stasis, who then ran rampant through the labs. You sealed off the Secure Specimen chamber with dual cast Walls of Iron, and it seems to be holding for now.

You proceeded to loot the other labs and made off with one of the Sacred Gems, as well as a nice selection of weapons and gear. You also learned from a cowering scientist that the other gems are inside Secure Specimen Storage. Oops.

    CHOOSE YOUR FATE.

Okay, we should be able to see into Specimen storage past the iron wall using our exographic scanners. The wall is iron, not the alloy that defeated our scanners.
Also ask the scientists if the tonberries we're found to be vulnerable to any toxins.

have the abjurer's cast Cloudkill behind the wall of iron.
    http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/cloudkill.htm

    >This spell generates a bank of fog, similar to a fog cloud, except that its vapors are yellowish green and poisonous. These vapors automatically kill any living creature with 3 or fewer HD (no save). A living creature with 4 to 6 HD is slain unless it succeeds on a Fortitude save (in which case it takes 1d4 points of Constitution damage on your turn each round while in the cloud).

    >A living creature with 6 or more HD takes 1d4 points of Constitution damage on your turn each round while in the cloud (a successful Fortitude save halves this damage). Holding one’s breath doesn’t help, but creatures immune to poison are unaffected by the spell.

If we're lucky, they have bad fort saves.

You take damage based on amount of time in there, and unless they're immune to poison, eventually, they'll fall due to the ability damage to their health.

Here's a thought. Gondegal can move through the walls and shit, right? Have him ghost through like he's been doing so well so far, physically locate the stones, and use the vent system in this place to bring them out to us. Once we've got them, I say we take our loot, those scientists whom we can bring with us, and GTFO.

We.. Don't really have a reason to hang around after that. Maybe give Samus a ride to the surface with her newfound bounty hunter profession...

    >>18351897

Haven Gondegal go into Specimen Storage while ethereal, locate the Jewels, manifest his hands to carry the Jewels, and bring them to us via the ventilation system that the xenomorphs had used to attempt to flank us.

Ask Samus if she's interested in helping us clear Specimen Storage.
Offer to pay her. It'll be her first job as a bounty hunter.
Delta Greens should be able to snipe enemies through walls, though it won't do much good against the Metroids.

How many ways are there into Specimen Storage? If it's just the one, we can easily transmute the Floor into Lava, set up a freezing circle, get a Prefab bunker or Prefab barricade set up, and start using GUN on MAN.
We do still want a cloudkill - but use someone who hasn't already got a ton of kills.
Someone suggested getting 10-20 of the Securitrons down here to utterly screw the Tonberries, since the Securitrons haven't gotten any kills yet. It seems like a good idea.

We have a wall of iron. Perhaps we could accio it and cause it to fall over on the angry sun, or accio nearby heavy objects to smack it.

I'm going to guess that rifle rounds and such won't be heavy enough to count as a hammer or koopa shell hitting it. If we can't smack it with Koopa shells or Hammer Bros. hammers, perhaps ice spells may help.

An unlucky Auror and White Mage are incinerated beyond raising as the flaming ball roars and flies into them before they can escape. Their screams echo through the halls as fire consumes them utterly in the space of a few short seconds, armor slagging, flesh withering before crisping, and a terrible scent filling the area.

The other Aurors manage to cast the Aguementi and Flame-Freezing Charms. The former sends several jets of clear water sizzling onto the creature, evaporating almost instantly, while the second causes the Sun's flame to dim. When it swoops in to attack a third Auror, the spellcaster suffers burns, but is not immediately consumed. It seems to have had a partial effect.

Another Auror attempts to paralyze the monster as Lyla's finishes casting. A pillar of pure illumination flares down on the fusion-powered foe, presenting your forces with the odd spectacle of light burning away fire. When the light recedes, the monster remains, but its fires are dimmer and it moves slower.

The Immobolus Charm fails utterly against the "Angry Sun" as it screams in fury and soars towards the Auror that had attempted to paralyze it. Tosh thinks fast and activates his psionic-shield, knocking the Auror out of the way before taking the charge on his powerful barrier. Potent as Tosh's defense is, the Sun's second slam against it pops the psionic field like a bubble. Tosh can't help but cry out as he suffers serious burns even while rolling away from the monster.

A feral roar shakes the ground as Okku bounds forward to grapple with the burning foe. The Great Bear's fur alights and burns begin to creep across even his supernatural hide, but he does not flinch, battering the Angry Sun with powerful blows imbued with divine energies.

The Delta Greens begin to raise their Mass Rifles, but before they can fire, a blur of dirty grey fur bursts from the breached Wall. Before the Deltas can react, a monstrous humanoid with spindly limbs, matted, stinking fur, and a huge maw with yellow fangs grabs one of the veteran soldiers. The maw distends, looking as if the jaws were unhinged as the beast crams the unfortunate soldier in and chews frantically, sending sprays of blood and gore over those near him. In the span of a second, the soldier is gone and the creature leers at those near it for its next meal.

The White Mages raise the fallen in short order, the fire from the Sun no longer enough to fully incinerate its foes. Nor is it enough to burn away projectiles now as the Shadowrunners hose it with automatic weapons. The Sun's flame dies down even lower, revealing a black surface veined with glowing red lines beneath the roaring fire.

    Things we have on hand:

    Magic Troops:
    11 White Mages (-1)
    6 Abjurers
    5 Aurors (-1)

    Shooty Troops:
    10 Shadowrunners (-2)
    10 Delta Greens (-2)
    3 Mobile Infantry

    DROOONES:
14 Drones (-2 Drooones! so far)

    Hero troops:
    1 Agrias (Terrain changing, Melee)
1 Douglas + Okku (Tank, Social)
1 Elaine (Healer, Resser, Can heal Mechs)
    1 Gondegal (Ghost)
    1 Lyla (Healer, Smiter)
1 Spike (Detective, Pistol user, Resists death)
    1 Star-Lord (Troop Commander, Melee)
    1 Tosh (Stealthy, Sniper, Telepath)
1 VP-99 (Finds the path of least resistance)

Star-Lord's getting a Levelup from this, no doubt. He was almost at one when we completed the kingdom of Zeal.
Gondegal's no doubt getting a Levelup from his work done both here, and at the other corps.
Agrias is getting a lot of XP, but likely not enough for any levelups.

With the amount of Shite our Aurors have gone through, I'm surprised we don't have a hero one yet.

Scattered Mass Rifle fire from the Delta Greens finally takes the Sun down as the reptiles waddle closer, finally stopping as they start hacking and wheezing.

Almost in unison they belch out a stream of slimy green bubbles that float through the air. One touches a Shadowrunner and he immediately lets out a strangled gasp, doubling over as his flesh twists and moves on its own, changing color to a deep red. In the space of a few seconds, his limbs contort, wrapping around his torso until they are absorbed. The former Decker now appears to be a horribly bumpy, knobbed cube of flesh with the only vaguely human feature two horrified eyes and a twisted mouth locked open, drooling. The reptiles bound closer and long, thin tongues dart from their mouths to stick to the mutated Runner and jerk him to them as they begin to eat him alive.

Then a line of magma erupts across the reptiles and Agrias kneels and channels geomantic power, causing a number of the beasts to be consumed by the liquid rock as all sorts of guns fire, slaughtering the beasts where they stand. The living creatures open their maws, but before they can retaliate, a Mindblast causes several to explode and stuns the others, giving your team precious time.

The Aurors do their best and the creatures drop one after another to the heavy firepower you can bring to bear, but a few bubbles get through, causing another two White Mages and a Shadowrunner to twist and mutate. A few bubbles break on your drones, to no effect, and when one contacts a Mobile Infantryman you brace yourself, but it seems his suit protected him.

    >>18352851 is exactly what happens.

"Why the hell aren't we using dem damn super-guns we got from the labs?!" roars a troll with a Panther Autocannon. He throws the weapon away and grabs the MegaCrash Launcher from the Drone that was carrying it. "Gimme dat!"

"You dumbass, we don't know what that can-" one of the other Runners starts to say, reaching for the weapon. The troll knocks him away, raising the bulky gun towards the reptiles.

"EAT IT, SHORTIES!!!!" he roars, pulling the trigger on the weapon. Suddenly explosions with no discernible source rock the area, tearing apart both friend and foe with equal abandon as the troll falls backward, his finger still on the trigger. Another series of explosions sends everyone flying, and another and another and another until the weapon finally flies from the Runner's hands as a chunk of ceiling falls on him. The subterranean construction of the labs begins to cave in on itself, huge chunks of steel, concrete, and cables falling everywhere as all contact with the away team is temporarily lost.

Another thing may be to attempt some heavy-duty tunneling with our current force of drones there, deploying additional troops with that capability if necessary. If that doesn't work, have VP-98 deployed and attempt to find a way to the antechamber counting the current terrain deformations correlated to the current map we have of MetPharm.

Everyone but HK-50 and the Securitrons are far removed from the fight, but hear the weapons fire from the antechamber.

    Are you fighting or fleeing?

This is Samus' fight. Ask the Farseers if she'd win, and perhaps have them Guide her. Perhaps get the white mages and the Abjurers to buff her. But this is Her fight to handle and we can leave it to Her.

Troops are to begin pulling back towards the extraction zone.

Once Samus is ready, see if she can summon her suit. If she can, hit her up with some buffs (Wall, Haste), and send her on her way.
We can't fight her battles for her.

HK-50 to have a fighting retreat with the Securitrons covering.

I'm still saying we should offer Samus the bounty, in order to lock her into the bounty hunter path that she started to consider when Spike talked her down, and to ensure that she goes to work for Light.

Gondegal, was there anything else in the containment labs that WASN'T moving, but looked like it could be picked up?
    Aurors, scry them labs.
I'm thinking that we already looted damn near everything, and that fighting the final boss is someone else's problem now.

Right, now how do we reach Grimm?
We can mikasa-drill to him, but that'll piss off the entire space fleet.
We could do the dungeon crawl, but oh lawdy horrendous casualties, and we won't be able to use mech support.

    Wait. I have a plan.
The Corps. Robotnik and Metpharm, at the very least, are known to have spaceships. Privately owned spaceships are not completely out of the question.
What would it take to make our Mikasa drilling operation seem like a legitimate corp operation?
If we do that, then we won't have to do any space fights at all.
    >> Anonymous 03/17/12(Sat)00:34 No.18354050
    >>18354003
For instance, we'd need to know:
What rights you'd require to Drill a hole into the earth's crust 100 meters wide.
What rights you'd require to fly a spaceship close enough to dig that hole.
What you'd need to do to set up a Front corporation that could receive those rights.

Alternatively, we could pose as an existing Corp ship.
We'd need to find a Corp with a history of drilling or mining or excavation.
If they don't already have rights to use spaceships in operations, we'd need to get them those rights.
We then need to either bullshit/hack our way into the Corp database and register our Mikasa as being a legitimate corp asset, or
jack enough of their existing assets to allow us to disguise the Mikasa as an asset, or
Use diplomacy with the Corp, convince them to treat the Mikasa as one of their assets and keep the feds off our ass while we drill shit for them.

While there's holes in this plan, the alternative is to take on the entire space fleet, and I don't think that's a good idea.

We can bring the Mikasa in, under the protection of the RVF-25's ECM field, on the exact opposite side of the planet from the City.
That should lower chances of detection.

Exactly what forces does/did the GDF have?

    Weighing in our options here.
    Loot GDF vs. Paperwork.
Looting the GDF might be tricky since I don't know what it'd take to fly an R-type, we lack specialised pilots.

But if we Loot the GDF's R-types and Gradius ships, we can then baffle the rest with paperwork, and commence drilling.

If they got hit with a bubble, you can assume they're dead.

Your 20 Securitrons and 5 Baneblades are prepared and ready. Where are you going to deploy them in support of Dr. Light's assault?

After a quick talk with Light, you learn that Mega Man has been activated and is closing in on a WilyCorp powerplant to attempt to shut off their power supply.

The bulk of Dr. Light's resistance forces have scattered to strike at key points across the city. You can attempt to support an incursion into MetPharm, Robodyne, or WilyCorp territory, or simply strike with your own forces at a target of your choosing to add to the chaos and hopefully tie up more of the enemy forces.

We can also use spare teleporter capacity to sabotage the enemy air units, the teleporter interdiction shouldn't cover the sky.

It might also be a good idea to sabotage the facility launching these aircraft in a stealthy way, no big explosions if we can help it.

Maybe we should deploy some troops with AA equiptment to rooftops, possibly telehopping or using cloaking to move between positions to doge enemy fire. We can replicate some anti air stuff if we don't have it on hand, maybe lasers or phasers so the aircraft cant dodge?

The tanks attempt to disperse, making it a bit more difficult for the incoming air force to hit the armored behemoths. Unfortunately, the sheer size and slow speed of a Baneblade is not enough to make up for this. The enemy jets unleash a salvo of missiles even as several of their number explode mid-flight thanks to beam rifle shots from the Hyaku and the Brasta. More missiles are added to the fray as the helicopters open up as well.

The enemy missiles strike the Baneblades, causing armor plating to go flying as the tanks suffer moderate damage from repeated missile detonations. The Brasta and the Hyaku Shiki escape mostly unscathed, the mobile mechs using the towering spires of The City to their advantage, but a handful deal minor damage to them as well.

The Hercules begins construction as the Hyaku and Brasta continue to duel with the jets and choppers. Skilled as Char is, the Hyaku is at a disadvantage on the ground rather than in space, and suffers light damage as a few more missiles slam into its armor. The Brasta fares better, taking out a few more jets while evading the return fire. However, one of the Baneblades finally goes up from the continued pounding the supertanks are received. Though both your tanks and mechs receive a few more missiles against their armor, Char and Brasta manage to mop up the remaining air squadron with a dazzling display of rapid, but accurate shooting. Drone after drone explodes as its ammunition and fuel stores are ignited by energy beams pulsing through them. The sky rains debris and fire as your tanks push on.
