Last night I had a game of Rogue Trader, which ended with one of my PC's having a nerveous breakdown.
    Is /tg/ intrested in storytime?

    Pic somewhat related.

I should start from the very beginning.
Last night was our second session, during the first one they took the small, custom designed ship I gave them flew it around, taking cheese crates, stealing cows, trees, cages grass and such, cause they wanted to start slave trading, when they were captured by Freebootaz. After they found out the characters had nothing of value, they placed a freeboota and some gretchins onboard, hid a bomb on the ship and gave them 2 months to find a treasure.
They went to an asteroid bar-nightclub thing and got some hints that there might be something at a recently decomissioned space hulk in an asteroid belt. So they left the station with an very happy and naked tau in a cage and in the meantime freeboota had made a house out of cheesecrates and was wrestling with some of the crew.
When they reached the spacehulk, they discovered that it was a transport ship, and a epic one at that. They remotely haxed the cargo doors open and landed their ship in a cargo bay, and dispatched a party to explore it and to light some containers on fire as well.

At the beggining of the second session situation was as follows:
I had 3 out of 4 players at the session, so I turned the 4th pc into a NPC for the game(he was an explorator). One player was new and he was the rogue trader. One PC was in the ships cargo bay, curled up on a tree, sleeping (somewhat autistic navigator) while other was scavaging through
containers for loot (pic related, character art I did for her), while rogue trader's ship(which was yet to be revealed) was chilling near the space hulk.

As the session started the female explorator was going through containers, until she found one containing crates labled "240 x 6mm rods ammo", which he then ordered her accompanying party to carry back to the ship.

Meanwhile on the ship this song
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_426RiwST8
was playing over the intercom, (since navigator though that the ships atmosphere should be more funky) and our navigator was sleeping on a tree where we left him. He was then rudely awoken by him being called to the bridge to answer an urgent vox call. Turned out it was the rouge trader asking how they were doing. He was a horrible liar and before he knew it the rogue trader was on his way aboard the space hulk. After that navigator returned to his tree for additional sleep.

He was soon rudely awoken by cargo ramp opening and some caped figure walking in. He greeted the rogue trader, they made aquitance and he soon started giving him a tour of the ship, which ended them pissing on the floor in the diner while they waited for first mate (whom the navigator always called a different name) to bring back some tea.

This was the perfect moment for the explorator to join them. She instantly gained prejudice against the rogue trader.

I'm sorry I'm a slow writer and english is not my main language.

As they were chilling on the ship, causing many embarassments for the explorator, the latter suddenly recived a message on her vox. It was static ridden announcement from the other explorator (whom none seemed to notice was missing), that informed them that he had found a motherfucking tank and some other intresting stuff.

That caused the rogue trader to go into "aww shit nig a motherfucking tank, we pimpin' now." mode, and ordered to arrange a boarding party.
After they met up outside the ships cargo hatch, under the ships rear tail infront of the rogue traders boarding craft they were discussing the details of the upcoming adventure. Actually they were trying to do backflips to the music that was faintly heard from the ships intercom. Shortly after the assembled party arrived, it was the first mate, arch militant NPCs, a medic, a mechanic and two of the people who were accompaning the rogue trader. Just before heading out rogue trader ordered to rearrange the party completely but it still ended pmuch the same.
As they vendured further from the ship into the laburynth made of cargo containers, some of which were still ablaze, I smoothly turned down the lamps, lit some candles and uncovered a A3 paper, upon which I beforehand drew a map of the ship and I had covered it with post-it note sized papers to simulate fog of war. (this is why I had to turn off the lights, so they wouldn't see through the postits)

As they vendured further from the ship, I slowly started to rise volume of this song:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMGzqM7_AKQ
playing on loop. To my surprise they got lost, and at one point when I described in detail how the pipes were singing, rogue trader pulled out his bolt pistol.
    >hey gm is there something special about my pistol
    >ugh it's good quality?
    >i wanna have it be pimped
    >sure you pull out your pistol encrusted in diamonds and painted in hello kitty colors.
(he was surprisingly pleased about that)
So they followed the explorator, who was over vox com with the other explorator, constantly asking for directions. They used their flashlights to light the room, which I simulated removing post it notes on the map. It worked surprsingly well I noted to myself as a removed a paper, uncovering the first step of a staircase, I described them a light metal shine. Sadly enough, my players descided they want to meet up with others as fast as possible.
Soon they reached a set of metal doors. Rogue trader tried to open it by firing a magazine into the door to form a smiley-face patter. After I consulted the dice, I described how he managed to somehow miss half the shots despite standing 4m from the wall.
After explorator consulted the other about him going through doors, and getting a "yeah, we left them open for you" for answer, she did some tech magic to the control panel and they entered a small, 2m wide dark corridor that had arrows pointing to "cargo hold 1". They chose to follow it, with rogue trader running ahead to try and dropkick a set of doors at the end of corridor open.
    >> Anonymous 02/26/12(Sun)12:30 No.18107499
Rest of the party soon reached the second doors as well, lifted up the sad, sitting rogue trader and vendured through the doors into a massive, pitch black cargo hold.
Due to extensive size they descided to send half of their party of eight into one direction while they pmuch went diagonally across the room.
I slowly started cranking up the volume on the speaker, which caused one of the players to start shuffling a pack of card nerveously. As they entered the second room they did not manage to reach the second explorator over vox.

After walking for some time they came across a light clare, roughly at their eye level. Everyone instantly pulled out their guns and started approaching cautiosly. After moving for some time it turned out to be a wall-mounted weapon. As they approached it turned out to be a side mounted weapon on a leman russ. The explorator porceeded to exitedly scale the tank and investigate it's melta-cannon armed turret while rogue trader, navigator and first mate proceeded to brofist.

Rogue trader yelled at explorator to try to turn it on. After the explorator tried to open commanders hatch, she discovered it was welded shut.
As she was about to relay the information back to rogue trader she was blinded by a set of flashlights, from the wrong side of the tank.

It turned out to be explorator 2's (whom they started calling "Paul") party. As the two groups met, I turned down the volume of the song and let them to have a safer moment.
    >> Anonymous 02/26/12(Sun)12:32 No.18107512
I threw them a general narrative how they were making an aquitance of eachother and such until explorator 1 went on a touchy subject of vox communications and paul not answering their calls.
As she recived the answer of "what calls" i found it to be a great moment to take a break.
As I returned from a cigarette with one of the players(whom confessed that the atmosphere had worked on them) and stated to munch with the others on sausage pies, cheese pies and meatbread I cooked they asked if it was really paul they were talking to. I refused to answer those questions.

as soon as the break ended, everyone instantly pulled guns on Paul and his party, resulting in a mexican standoff. It ended soon after paul told them his vox is faulty and suggested them to vendure forth, where they found a barricade.

The Pc's took two more men from Pauls party (a medic and a mechanic) and headed into the darkness. After 700m they found the barricade. It was a chest high wall made of metal scrap, that went 30m both ways, along it were some improvised empty weapon racks, one of which had an outdated machinegun and a searchlight on it. The machinegun was rusted so hard it was unusable. Which was a bit odd, since everything else they had encountered was in absolute mint condition. Dissapointingly no one commented on it, and instead the explorator proceeded to haji-wire the searchlight to a power cell they found earlier. After completion a small green light started shiing on the searclight. Then this happened
    >"I turn the searchlight into the darkness"
    >"it reveals nothing. A green light is shining on the searchlight"
    >"I turn the searchlight to my left"
    >"you still see only darkest of dark. The pipes sing faintly" (I had started playing that lustmord song again)
    >"okay, I, ugh turn the light so it looks upon a part of the barricade"
    >"you do that and barricade remains still in darkness"
    >someone from the party shouts "HOW ABOUT YOU TURN THE LIGHT ON, DUMBFUCK"

After she was literally blinded by that relevation. she slowly moved the serachlight around to reveal the walls of the cargo bay 700m to her right. As she moved it more to the right she found a corner approximately a kilometre away.
She then started turning it slowly to her left, revealing that the walls get rustier and dirtier, and just as she was about to find something she descides to turn it far to her left, in an attempt to blind her own party.
But it soon hit a mechanical limiter, so she had to turn it to illuminate the part of the wall that was unilluminated, (as the party kindly kept pointing out). As she moved the searchlight straight to the front it revealed a set of large metal blast doors, roughly 300m away.

They descided to abandon the barricade and venture into the ray of the searclight, that cast their shadows on the wall. As they approached the wall, the doors were larger than they expected and they reinforced with metal plates hastly and shittily welded on them. An tech use roll revealed that they were put there rather to make sure the sideways-opening sliding doors stayed shut.

after the explorator noted that someone should hammer those welds on the plates broken, while she meddles with the console, the party tried to yell Paul and his dudes to come help them but to no avail.

RT organised a party of 6 again, leaving behind Paul and a few guyse who were with him, and he started leading his party into the unknown ahead. The darkness was different there, flashlights seemed to be less effective there. Something was wrong with how the light faded.

As they stumbled around blind in the dark room,(with this:
playing on loop, gradually getting louder)
they soon caught a dim reflection. They all pulled out their guns again and slowly and cautiously started approaching it, occationally forcing me to roll awareness. As they got closer they discovered it was just a support beam with steel plating around it. It seemed to be rusty despite being staneless, but what caught their attention was a rust stain that closely resembled a human hand print. They dismissed it as one of those jesuses on toasts and vendured forth straight down the dark room, until they reached a wall, which had an arrow with a red cross on it pointing left. They hugged the wall and proceeded towards the direction indicated by the arrow. The pipes sang differently there. It wasn't screetches and such, these were knocks.

They soon found a archway leading into another, smaller dark room. They found only a curved desk which the RT descided to parkour over. RT started to search the desk for documents while navigator started to read his tarot cards and the explorator attempted to contact two of their party members who had gone missing.
RT found a set of papers clipped together, lower 4 pages fell away, like they were decayed, while top pages remained in mint condition. As he read them he found that it was just a list of peoples name. Luckily for him he failed an awareness check that would've resulted in the names of their supporting cast that were aboard their shuttle at this time. As he started reaching dates that were quite near the day at hand, the pages became decayed and unreadable.

The tarot cards read: Tower, death, Lover and 5 of spades. The navigator remembered much to his dissapointment that he had not taken the time to learn what the cards mean.

The explorator managed to contact the two missing members.
"Yeah, don't worry, we're okay. We just have some minor flesh wounds and a sprained tendon. The medic is taking care of us, but the batteries of our lights are dying and we lost the medic bag"

That conversation happened over msn between my laptop and hers. She descided to tell only a glimpse of it to the rest.

"huh that's weird" said the RT as he shone his torch on the wall behind the desk, revealing a huge metal red cross with two serpents lashed around it.
Navigators player then proceeded to OOC with:
"DO YOU KNOW THAT THE SERPENDS ARE A MASSIVE MISUNDERSTANDING ACCORDING TO CRACKED"
I responded with a quite angry stare. In retrospect I guess they were quite pissing themselves by that time, so that had to resort to lighthearted stuff. RT's torch also revealed a arrow pointing to the left with the words "Diner" on them. They descided it was time for a pleasant snack perhaps.

As the followed a dark and well-aged corridor they entered a dark kitchen. It was a large kitchen made to feed thousands of people, with stainless steel counters and industrial grade ovens everywhere. On the counters there were piles of black muckus, cooking appliances, knives, spoons and such all laying about. Looks like they were left as they were.
There was also hissing coming from somewhere.

Explorator was of course irritated by the hissing sound, which she thought was gas left on. She ran off into the darkness to the source, which was a gas stove. She turned a knob and the hissing stopped. "Holy shit it really was gas left on. Hey gm how the fuck do you think gas can stay on this long"
A faint hissing sound was heard again, now from a different direction. She again ran off to it just as the party reached her.
This silly dance lasted for 2 more times until she got fed up and they descided to vendure into a small door they saw beforehand. Just before they entered another room the explorator looked up. There was no ceiling to be seen. Only pure, dark, void.
The room behind the opening was one of these rooms where people go to grab their food from in a diner. You know, where food is kept warm on a counter and there are counters which have that food and food trays and plates and such in them.

Navigator took the chance to throw a plate with black stuff on it into the darkness. He was rewarded with a breaking sound and a sudden stench in his nostrils. (nobody else smelled it).
He tried it again and threw it into light this time. The black muckus turned into dust(despite it looking to be quite moist) and everyone felt the stench again.

Then they started to go through the cupboards.

    Proceeding:
First few cupboards turned up notihng, but then navigator came upon one from which he heard a very distinct buzzing sound.
He tried to open it, but it seemed to pull itself closed again. He rolled a strenght check and pulled it open. As soon as he did that he was hit in the face of a swarm of buzzing little things. They seemed more like they desperately wanted to get out of there. They didn't seem to notice that the buzzing stopped, because they were far more intrested in what's in the cubboard. Despite them shining 2 torches into it the light inside seemed to be very, very dim. There seemed to be a large lump of meat, which had eerie shadows on it, like there was a face or something. As navi tried to pick it up, he dind't grab it on first time. It seemed to be further inside than he thought, so he really had to strech for it the second time. He grabbed it and tried to pull the heavy thing out. But as soon as his hand reached the light rays from the other two party members, it was just a pile of grey, lifeless dust.
They descided to leave this room and return to the kitchen. Which they started exploring. The first mate asked from behind them, if they hear it too. As they listened they did indeed hear a very quaint whistling sound.
Looking for the source they saw a very dim two flickering flames roughly at weist height somewhere in the kitchen.

They ignored it and talked about if they should explore the kitchen further or go elsewhere. As the first mate and some of pauls team gave their two cents, explorator felt something was fishy and rolled awareness.
Upon passing hit he indeed discovered that he was feeling very, very faint rythmic thumps through her cyborg leg. it was something was.... walking or something.
She quite hastly suggested that they should go elsewhere and she started making pace towards another door they saw earlier. The rogue trader, first mate and navigator followed.

They ended up in a eating room. They noticed that the tables were placed differently than what they glimpsed from the food... giving...room thing before. They concluded it was a different eating room and made their way across it to the other side, with the navigator occationally picking up and tossing around plates

    >> Anonymous 02/26/12(Sun)14:13 No.18108529
As they reached across the room, the explorator noted that the thumps had ceased and became more relaxed.
They entered a hallway which seemed to be more like a back area, maintainance hatches were everywhere and walls occationaly beared technical markings and had rivets in them, some of which were missing. Blessed be the emperor none of them descided to look into those holes.

They reached a door, with the sign "STAIRWAY 087B" on it. Before it the rogue trader found his diary again. At this point I should take a pause and explain a storyline I forgot to tell you about:
The rogue trader took out his diary when he first boarded the navigators, explorators ship and wrote something in it. He later found his diary when they found the post in the dark atrium after the large door. It's last entries were
    "DATE xxxx TIME xxxx
I boarded my subordinates ship. Seems to be lovely and all, but their local custom required me to piss on the diner floor. A man can live with that. "
    "Date XXXXX time ???
We stupidly breached open a large set of doors to enter an weathered part of the ship. So far we've managed to jump at random metallic glares.
    "
The last entry was written in slightly different handwriting.
After that he found a new entry by the stairs door:
    "Date: ????
After exploring the kitchen we can safely say that the food tastes horrible here. Local babies taste horrible"
After that he hastly hid his diary under his robes.

I sure as fucking hell hope it's a reference to 8bittheatre.

The rogue trader who had rushed ahead of other 3 partymembers to retrive his familiar brown-leathered book caught a glimpse of some what he supposed only was a hooded head behind the corner further ahead. He shot off a few rounds and ran after it. He found nothing. An awareness check revealed a rust stain on the wall, curiously resembeling a robed human female
After meeting his party and saying that his safety failed is when they descide to go down the stairwell, despite explorator warning them against that, due to the freak vox call earlier.
The stairwell was circling a square post, so you only saw one set of stairs downwards, and even that barely because the darkness engulfed everything.
As soon as they entered the stairwell the music had stopped.
They noted the floor they were on was numbered "8d"
    they went downwards

They reached a flat area of stairs that was labeled "9d" but there was no door, so they vendured further down as they heard a shriek coming from upstairs.
"must be the pipes" murmured Pauls party member from behind them
They reached a door named "d7" and entered it.
    I gradually increased volume on

AS they prepared to enter the door, I changed the maps. After I sat down again, Rogue Trader took initiative again to break through the door towards the unknown.
As he broke through the door with his right shoulder and crashed through the rusty thing with a very loud clonk, crash and shriek he caught a glimpse of something for a moment.

It was as a robed figure, whose cloth folds went into the void, the hood was partially hiding her face, he was happy as hell it was hidden. She was holding also something in her arms, that seemed to be twitching.

It was time for act 3.
    >> Anonymous 02/26/12(Sun)14:39 No.18108764
As navigator was helping rogue trader up, it was upon the explorator the keep a watchful eye out, but it was only her one flashlight to illuminate the sinister atmosphere around her and her two stupid companions. She felt the thumping again and it was making her uneasy.

Rogue trader examined for a moment a stain of rust on the wall where the figure was moving towards, but his time with the human-like stain was cut short, because the explorator flipped the fuck out and said they have to start moving.

They followed her behind a corner, They started to hear the thumping too, faint at first but as they ran down the dark hallway, their flashlights casting eerie shadows on the walls of the empty corridor they were in. they only caught glimpses of the shadow, they were barely noticable. Just fear playing tricks.
As the were running they were suddenly passed by their remaining party members, the first mate turned ran backwards for a few moments, just enough for the players to notice his pale face, wide open eyes and long enough for him to yell at them to hurry the fuck up and not waste time looking back. He then turned around and followed rest of the NPCS behind the corner.

As the Pc's turned around the corner they saw the dim light of the rest of the party at the end of the hallway dissapear.

They sure as hell made fucking pace after them.
    >> Anonymous 02/26/12(Sun)14:46 No.18108824
As they were halfway to the second bend they felt the thumping get extra loud and then the metal seemed to bend left of them followed with a huge CLANG, and the steps stumbling down the hall.
They turned two rights again behind the dark corners and proceeded to run down the corridor again with new-found motivation.
when they reached the second corner they caught a glimpse of a brown cloth dissapearing behind the corner. But when they turned the corner they saw only void. But they were too busy shitting bricks to lighten their weight to notice that anyway. The same happened with 1 more corner before they reached a longer hallway, with 3 dots of light at the end of it. As they reached it it was their 3 party members out of breath pointing to the right. Just as they caught up the npcs started running again in the indicated direction. They heard a loud roar (I used one of those roars from the lustmord song for that) from behind them. They ran through a door and reached a catwalk suspended in a large room, where they didn't see walls or ceiligns. They dind't care either, they just ran behind the npcs. They followed the catwalk when they suddenly felt the whole structure shook. They all tripped upon oneanother. As they were laying there they noticed that the thumps had stopped. they took the moment to catch their break, and the rogue trader tried one of his motivating backflips again. This time he did it brilliantly, which was rewarded with faint clapping by one of the partymembers.

One of the players asked me if any of the other partymembers was wearing brown, I responded that only the medic was wearing a brown flak-jacket. but it was not loose at all.

He said "oh" and started shuffling his cards again. They proceeded down the catwalk, which felt really unstable now, until they reached a hole in the wall. On the other side there was a sign that read "Engine room #9"
They had reached crew quarters. it was a tight labyrinth lined with doors with unreadable signs on them, some of the doors were rusted shut, some were in mint condition but unopenable, others were welded shut. They moved down the hallway and I turned down the ambience. They found nothing of intrest(well the RT found his diary that had "I saw them for a moment, but they kept running away from me" in it, but he didn't tell anyone) and were navigating mostly with the map.
Explorator heard a faint babies cry. As they proceeded down the hall, the cry got louder and she took the lead, to find out where the fuck was it coming from.
As they reached a larger space between the bedrooms the cry stopped.
Then it started again louder. A female "ssshshhhshh" tried to silence it, but to no avail.
Then a faint thud was heard. The cry stopped.

She was over at my laptop at that moment reading it from a txt file I wrote it into, she was quite uneasy. As she murmured "okay" with a dry mouth she moved away and accidently unplugged the amplifier 3.5mm jack from my laptop, which resulted in a really, really fucking loud(the ampliflier plays always at full volume, I have to keep my laptop's main audio at around 5% and keep youtubes volume really low as well) crack followed by static and her falling hiding her face, turning her back to us and starting shaking.
I replugged the wire again, stopped the music.
In the meantime she had fell on her knees and was quite audibly weeping. I knelt next to her tried to find out if she's aight.

the other two players were sitting on the other side of the table with their pokerface on, me in my infinite confusion and ankwardness knelt beside her put my hand on her shoulder and asked if she would feel better if I made a pirate hat for her. In an attempt to hold the spaghetty in my pockets I made a pirate hat which she shortly tossed away.

After a while she pulled herself together wiped her eyes, packed up her stuff and I sent her outside. she was slowly regaining color to her face as I was walking her to my gate. She was quite upset still, but she said she's fine.
This all took around half an hour.
I went directly to the balkony to smoke.

So As I was finishing my third cigarette, I started to feel horrible and I glimpsed a queer shadow from the corner of my eye, cast by the latern on my bakony which resembled a claw.
So It got me thinking: I bought this bit modified defiler and it got me thinking if I should replace the close combat weapon and twin heavy flamers for something else, if my main aim is to keep that fucking crab on the table, dropping large templates.
I want survivor defiler, god damn it. I was thinking lasguns .

Hospital area had ramps. Knowing my players they would've raced with the beds down the ramps.
Also there were some stairs. PC's didn't see them, and thus they didn't know that those 3-stepped stairs where the reason for sprained tendon one of the partymembers mentioned.

I also love how they didn't notice how their party size kept changing.
