    105 KB Civ thread #3 Voice of Reason-ish !fTZ7nIUxd2 02/22/12(Wed)22:38 No.18062118
You are the Amazolli. A tribe of LizardFolk banished from your home city of Zetharn. Over a year has passed since your banishment and your people have thrived, away from their imperialistic rule. You made your home upon this river, and here your gods have treated you well. You have made allies with the Dwarven people of the mountain. They construct weapons and tools for your people, while you provide them with protection.
The Forest to the East is unexplored and many of your people say it is cursed. None dare to even enter the tree line.

Last time: It was discovered that your old kinsmen from Zetharn sent patrols to attack you. A plan was made and an attack was set. There were many casualties on your side, but those do not compare to those of your enemies. The survivors were few and all were captured.

The tyrants of Zetharn know your people exist. War is at hand. Your people need their council, they need you.

The Forest to the East is unexplored and many of your people say it is cursed.

This one asks that you are aware that the first kin that we lost was lost on the island. Mayhaps we should look to further armoring ourselves, for though our scales are strong, many of our kin perished to the weapons of the once-kin. This one is thinking we can use the bones of the fast-horned ones in the woods as asecond set of scales.

Ah, well our army is actually rather small. But due to our wonderful Arms/Armor making I'd imagine we'd more than an ample foe. But I really dont think we have the numbers to aid them in any way other than outfitting them with better equipment.

though... A certain Tribunal member (me) did have some family connections with some rather shifty, stealthy Dwarves who'd help them out for the right price. Though that may not be the best choice of action. Besides, I done even know the whole story of this conflict.

I worship the Gods of the Old Way. I don't really understand why flint and those others would abandon ship so quickly to these new gods.

Armok has his place to be sure. Aye, as a soldier you have to respect him but no be beholden to him. It be a fine line.

Omzg is friend to any dwarf with a thirst, hunger or need. I feel he could use more attention in our homes and our hall.

I know little of Teiwaz, but his worshippers make my arms armour and thus deserve my respect.

Serris wishes for a small band of able-bodied kinsman to cross the lake and explore the island, personally leading this expedition. However, Serris will wait for the sacrifice of the other kin, as a boon from the gods will be greatly appreciated to furthering this cause.
    >> Voice of Reason-ish !fTZ7nIUxd2 02/22/12(Wed)23:27 No.18062750
"The Old Ways" pertain to the LizardFolk, but many of the Dwarven people have begun worshiping them alongside their Lizardkin.
    >> Aldraign, The Foreigner 02/22/12(Wed)23:28 No.18062759
It would be free to expand and grow without danger of enemy attack, it would be wise to make it our Capital, and focus on its growth once we are able to sustain it. We should upgrade Architecture until we have proper defensive structures, and then focus on weaponry to protect ourselves further. Then we can focus on expansion, and taking more land.
Let us take the island, I will venture with you, I have a small band of Elven Archers from my homeland still loyal to me, and they would gladly fight for our cause, since I have disassociated myself with them long ago.

Set up a camp on the Island when we arrive, then we can expand it while my men protect and patrol the area around it.

The children shall be sacrificed first, their blood and organs will be as sweet meats to our goddess, The Mother Who Devours Our Own. Then shall come the womenfolk, their eyes plucked from their eyes so that they may never know her beauty, their ears filled with wax that they may never hear her voice, and their tongues removed that they may never speak her name in vain. They shall have their bellies split open, their unfertilized eggs, children to never be, removed, one eaten by each of we, Her most blessed daughters, and the remainder placed upon Her altar. After their younglings have died and their bodies been made barren, they shall be slain, one at a time, on our goddess's altar, their dying screams a beautiful melody to our great and terrible mother. And our great mother, Coatliuitl, The Feathered Serpent, She Who Dwells Within the Mountain, The Giver and Destroyer, She Who Slumbers With Dreams of Kinslaying, will give our tribe her blessing and their tribe her curse. Her taste for her offspring's blood will be set upon them, and her favor upon us. Praise Coatliuitl! Praise The Feathered Serpent!

If they are among our hated brethren, the Zetharn blasphemers and betrayers of the Old Ways, then their sacrifices will be welcomed. Our mother goddess hungers most for the young and womenfolk for they are closer to Her. If they are not made in her image, sacrifice to her is meaningless. Their blood lost in battle would be a better reverence to Eztliamiqui, the Great Father, He Who Thirsts, opposite to the Mother.

Our Dwarven brother makes a good point. We have yet to explore this island, meet its inhabitants, and even learn of its ability to support a monument to our divine mother's great fury. The island is a romantic proposition, as I will admit, but we must move slowly here lest we make a rash decision and the tower falls.

I propose the tower to our divine mother be placed on the site of our glorious victory over our hated brethren! Through? you misunderstand, I mean UNDER.
(though now that I think of it, drill/wind driven ships could hypothetically sail across sand like a boat would, so exploration above the sands would work too, and it'd be painfully efficient for shipping once we "sail" to the deserts edge)

Also, I really had no gauge on what our level of industrialization was, since oil would be no use to us I guess its about pre-steam engine then? Also there are usually large deposits of fresh water and not to mention the high quality iron ore that is usually found under that.

Based on this, we need better ships to even begin thinking about expansion onto the island. The ship would either sink or we'd need dozens of them to ship over all the materials one by one.

We should definitely have a Coatl as a head for our boats. I want to make bigger ones, though, for transport of many lizards and dwarfs. I also want to eventually have a floating city like Tenochtitlan built off of our new settlement on the island. We just won't let the spaniards inside.

We shall scout along the coast line close to our landing area as well as the grasslands surrounding the forest. After some initial scouting, start setting up a base camp. after scouting the coast and the initial grasslands around the forest your search bears no fruit.

A base camp is set between the coast and forest.

It is late evening, the party of 10 (including the newly arrived Shadow Scale) is sent to scout the forest.
Near the edges the forest seems normal but near it's center something odd is found.

The Long dead corpses of 12 Human soldiers.

It is around Dusk. The sun is setting and It's getting dark. What do you do?

    >> Chimalli !!M/DkIZloLuR 02/23/12(Thu)02:11 No.18064607
We ship massive amounts of land into the lake, to the point that we create gardens, islands, homes... We would be the masters of the land, living where we desire, not where we must.

Alternatively, we could live harmoniously with the land, by creating large platforms. The platforms would be hollow, and anchored to the ground, or perhaps to each other. It would require much more effort though, and I'm not sure we have the proper materials to do such a thing. Dried mud or clay would surely fall apart if used to accomplish this method.

We could build a cave system under the island or build a tower on it and have that be the start of a city. We could also build a fleet of boats that just allows go around the lake and have that be a city or build what amounts to houses on stilts that are strung together with bridges. Another possibility is we develope the traits to live beneath the water and move down there, with a constant presence of our people on the island and surrounding shores to keep an eye on what's above and keep in contact with the dwarves.)
    >> Chimalli !!M/DkIZloLuR 02/23/12(Thu)02:26 No.18064760
    >If only we had concrete, it would be easy.

Hmm, we could create a series of wooden platforms and link them together like puzzle pieces, They would be floated out into the lake and anchored by wooden post hammered into the lake bed, perhaps? The wood would expand in the water so, even if we were able to fit them into the spaces they wouldn't be able to move around once linked. The wood would rot with time though, and we would need a method to make the structures permanent. There are also issues with stability. A boat can tip and so can a platform.

Our sea going vessels are not sufficient. There is no way we could transmit large amounts of food and supplies across the lake. It limits our ability to grow and destroy as well. This should be our priority going forward. We also should not forget our obligation to the lizardfolk. There have been rumors that the forest to the west is haunted. (*tsk* it's not necromancy.

It's an ancient practice used since the begging of The Old Ways.
It's gotten a bit obscure over the last century. You... probably haven't heard of it.)
    >> Fire Horn 02/23/12(Thu)03:57 No.18065471
(Honestly, I'd rather keep away from necromancy...takes the dead away from Him and all that. And your image reminds me, have we found any turtles or tortoises? If so, we should use their shelves for shields.)
    >> Coatlicue the Blooded Midwife 02/23/12(Thu)03:57 No.18065474

(The cool thing about Necromancy is that we'll be able to keep our elders alive and keep the Old Ways around... FOREVER!)

Hmm...necromancy with the bones of our ancestors in our shields (Incidentally, my name means shield)...might lead to some very interesting weapons and armor effects. Better please your ancestors or the spirit of your armor will forsake you!

The burning of the game has little effect to the fire, but upon the burning of the bones of one of your fallen enemies, a voice reaches out to everyone present.

Your god of war, Eztliamiqui (He Who Thirsts) Has spoken to you.

The Tower of The Feathered Serpent has been completed. And troubling sites can be seen from the towers keep.
    >> Old Man Tooth Chewer 02/23/12(Thu)04:01 No.18065501
It's really all a matter of perspective.

As long as we don't go hurr-durrnecromancers dark, it should be awesome.

Our honored dead are forever remembered, their bones have become our sanctified tools.

The bodies of fallen foes are used to help us in all sorts of ways.

We should avoid trafficking with souls though. Those belong in the afterworld.

(I was thinking more along the lines of the elves in eberron that keep their ancestors in massive tombs that they can go inside and talk to them about shit. Think about it. When we die, we can continue to lead our progeny in the old ways! The faults of Zetharn will not happen again!)

    Alright then. Night then.
It look like they built a wall of some sort with two great keeps/fortress or something on either end.

All I'm saying is, I don't think we should get into zombies or summoning shit. Using the venerated bones of our fallen? sure
    >> Old Man Tooth Chewer 02/23/12(Thu)04:06 No.18065536
Tooth Chewer gnaws on a decaying tooth, then looks toward the prisoner holding.

"Give them the night to talk. Those who do may have a trial by blood to see if they may go free. Those who don't should be dismembered and fed to the flames."

That'd actually be a good idea, allowing the honored dead to give counsel.

Maybe not giant tombs, maybe they just reside in their bones. Their advice is always useful, though not always relevant.

Future councils could sit at a table of sage advice. Generals could wear the skull-fashioned helm of the heroes of yesterday. And every green warrior would feel safer knowing he goes into battle with an expert in his hands.
