    Corporal Darvis 89th Cadian

Been a day since we were detained on the Unscian ship, Out of the eight men we brought on board the ship, about five of us are left, The Commissar, Feilding, and Donicus, dead. Not that it really matters, no official channels to be contacted, no family to notify, just More numbers for Colonel Gauv to tick on to his big board of casualties. Though I have to hand it to the Lt. Col She did handle herself rather well in the fight, I guess those robotic limbs were "earned" in battle. Not much was told to us about why the commissar went nuts over that hologram, just something about ancient technology, and heresy or some drivel. Can't say I miss the bastard. After the fight ended the Unscian soldiers took us to the brig of their ship, the Colonel along with Captain Doyle continued to meet with the Captain of the ship, The name roughly translates to "Tomorrow". I guess the Colonel sweet talked the Captain cause they aren't treating us like prisoners anymore, even letting us roam about the ship, with escort mind you, but still. No idea whats going on outside, but I'm sure the rest of the regiment isn't too happy with us having not returned. At least, the officers. Enlisted are expendable.
I have to admit though Unscian cuisine is absolutely amazing. Maybe its the stale rations I've been eating for a year, but this food reminds me of better days. During lunch, Emperor is been so long since I've had an actual lunch, we eat with the Unscians and try to converse a bit. We usually just end up sitting in our own groups. They aren't so different, I can tell they crack jokes and pick on eachother. Just kinda odd seeing that kinda thing when the cultuers are worlds appart. Well speaking of lunch its about time to get chow.

2-3 Baker 17th PEF, On board the UNSC The Coming Day

The hearing was over quickly and my punishment was quick. Four weeks fire watch, and I have to babysit the IOM soldiers. Not bad all things considered. We've had them on board for about a day now and no end in sight for that. After debriefing their Colonel its still a mystery why the man snapped. They are attributing it to PTSD. It seems the IOM really has no reason to fight us, and that this is to be regarded as an isolated incident. From what I gather from Sergeant Marsh who was in the room, they are going to officialy state the Commissar was killed in battle along with the other two. Not much is know about the Imperium of Man, from the briefings we received they are a small religious empire whose leader is revered as a god. They, and us, are at war with an alien race know as the Tau. The tau are deceptive aliens who try and subvert populations under their rule with promises of peace before subjugating them to forced labor or forced soldiery. They are a highly mobile fighting force that uses technology similar to our MAC weaponry. Unlike the Brutes and Elites they don't like hand to hand and try to stay far away, usually employing hit and run tactics. Basically it'll be like fighting the insurgents.
Babysitting isn't so bad, Get to watch the Imperial soldiers look at the gadgets and gizmos on the ship like they never seen computers before. Its kinda funny watching them try to use the vending machine. They stop utter a little prayer and press a button, when that doesn't work they do it again with a different button. Gone so far that me and Private Wheller go up to the machine utter some nonsense hop on one foot and then get our sandwiches. Almost died laughing when I saw one try it. They must have discovered their technology or something. Oh well time to do my rounds

Not much to do for entrainment on this rig. We chat, we eat, and we sleep, Our weapons were taken to some laboratory so we cant even practice on the ranges they provided us, they did however let us use Their rifles. Honestly, I love it. Yeah bullets this size will never stop an ork or the tyranids, but there's just some strange satisfaction when you pull the trigger and the thunderous voice of the Emperor comes out and puts holes in whatever is in front of you. Its decently light weight too. Not that great against armored opponents but I would love to unload a magazine of this into the belly of a tau. Got pretty good with it too, I hit that giant gorilla thing dead center of the head. Brings me to another topic. While the Unscians may not be apart of the Imperium, I am noticing a big lack of things like ork warnings or the like. Just some random monsters that don't exist, Maybe on their home world. Another thing no kind of ward or holy adornment to stop the infiltration of chaos. Yes I know that chaos is a well kept secret, but being from a planet where Chaos decided to squat in our front lawn, I can't help but comment. But this thing doesn't use the warp, so maybe we are safe.
I am missing my ole girl Frieda about now, wonder if she's still ok or if the Tau attacked recently. I mean been on the ship for two days and the Colonel is tight lipped about the whole ordeal going on. When she comes back from her day long chats she doesn't even get the Captain to say anything, she just goes to sleep. Maybe she needs to oil her gears. I'm just getting antsy to beable to move freely. I hated it on the ride to this planet, I am not liking it now.. Eh Imma o grab a snack from the broken food dispenser. I heard standing on one leg works. Machine spirits got a sense of humor I guess.

It's an interesting thing to consider that in case of some inter dimensional contact that event would at best and a very big maybe end up in some Imperium archive as a footnote stating ''Everything purified, business as usual''

New orders down the pipe, all audio logs as well as video logs are be to forwarded with the date known as separation date so we can keep track of events that happened. Today is S+6. Almost a week since our slip-space drive went haywire and we ended up here. Feels a lot longer than that. Once again I am drawing fire-watch, I have gotten a grand total of eight hours of sleep in the past two days. Not my worst but unpleasant all the same. Not much to do but walk around and watch the Meddies make fools of themselves. I'm going to make a sweep near the bridge tonight, use my expert eavesdropping skills * laugh* before I get caught.

Colonel spoke with us today, looks like we are going to be getting back to the fight soon. The Tau moved in on the troop assembly and would have cause some significant damage if not for the Unsican long range auspex. Like they knew were all of the Tau positions were. Their Valkyries kept strafing their position long enough for our men to close in. I know this cause I got to watch it from one of the many windows on the Tomorrow. Crazy aint it, Windows on a battleship. We'll be going to ground with a large force of Unsican solders. I guess they want to get aggressive in the war. Kinda glad too, we've been needing reinforcements for a long time now, maybe this regiment is what we needed. No word on getting our weapons back, looks like we have to use theirs. Thank the Emperor the Commissar is dead, that's all I have to say. No other word has been passed down to us. So until then its just hurry up and wait. Story of my Li-

    S-Day +7

Another hard fight yesterday. The Tau forces tried to send in an aerial attack against The Coming Day. The AA guns ripped them to shreds and they pretty much dropped all the marines on the ground. The battle was easily one of the bigger ones I have been a part of. I was in the Pelican that landed right after the one with the IOM on it, within seconds of landing shots were already hitting the bird. Anders took a hit right off the bat, almost took his head clean off. I rushed to the wreckage of a warthog and started returning shots at their position. One of the Meddies took cover with me. About off to our right up a small hill there was probably five or six tau in some cover mowing down the fearless guys charging them head on. A warthog drove up spraying their position. This is when me and the Meddie charged from the cover, I lobbed a grenade at them while the other guy just held down the trigger emptying the rifle. It worked and the blue bastards blew to pieces. Once we took their position Juno squad was on our left and a company of IOM to our right. The IOM charged up the hill bounding from cover to cover, it looked like they were playing a speed ball match rather than a battle.
Juno squad made their way around the embankment to hit the tau. It was textbook, Juno and Tusker 3-4 started driving hard into the Taus left flank, while the IMO pressed hard up the ridge like they were reenacting the battle of Stalingrad. The Spartan Team along with Charlie 2-5 started pressing the right. They sandwiched the Tau in and their line fell to pieces. The IOM was merciless gunning off of them down as they fled, crushing tau with their tanks. It wasn't pretty, but we won.

Now I want to see the IoM reactions to that.
And what about the rest of the IoM troops? Are there negotiations going on? I don't think they'll just sit there if some of their troops disappear inside an unknown craft.

Well we are planet side and wouldn't you know it, we already won another battle. I am starting to like these Unscies. It was a good sized skirmish, nothing to scoff at. Never got told the total number, command says we killed over a couple thousand tau, so that probably means 800 or so. It was a tough landing, but we got out alright, I think the other Valkyrie that landed with us took a hit, not sure. I must say, the Colonel is a beast. Our squad was dropped pretty close to a Tau position. She was the first out the door and ran out fighting. She charged in before I could and caught the bastards by surprise. The Colonel was a man on fire, emptying her magazine and when she couldn't reload fast enough she just started punching them with her bionic arm. She just kept beating them over and over screaming names of people I never knew. After we took the nest we charged out for any available cover. I took cover behind a broken lori with a UNSC soldier. Watched as a squad tried to rush these Tau on a hill; they almost got to them. A gun lori drove by and distracted them. Me and the Unscie charged the hill. I saw him prime a grenade, so I just held the trigger down so they wouldn't pop their heads up. That pit erupted into a fountain of blue goo.
This is about when Gamma theta and Zeta companies began their heroic charge up the ridge. The tau fire wasn't enough to keep us away, we eventually swarmed the lines and routed them. If it wasn't for the Unscians putting pressure on the flanks we may not have gotten off so easy, Hell their stormtroopers took out a few nests themselves, only the three of them! Power armor makes you do crazy things I guess. The Tau panicked once their leader was killed and the fun began. We just slaughter them wholesale, hurting them for the year of sitting in muddy holes and constant battles. It was nice to put the fear of the Emperor back into them.

Not the same guy, but I'm not convinced they would be. 2:1 maybe, 3 or 4:1 more likely.

Spartans have an edge over marines in that they're smaller, more mobile and able to use cover more effectively. Marines beat Spartans in just about everything else- armament; durability and raw brute strength are the most obvious advantages. In a straight fight the Spartan gets a fist through the chestplate or gut full of bolter rounds.

If the Spartan is in an area where he can use the environment to his advantage he stands a much better chance at defeating a marine solo- I tend to think of spartans (S2s, at least) as Batman equivalents; if they've got prep time and can use the environment against you they'll fuck you up. Catch them flat-footed in an area where they can't make use of their skillset? Much easier to take down and trivial for a ceramite-armoured mountain with an automatic rocket launcher.

Finally, remember Spartans are only viewed as top-tier warriors because the closest equivalent to them in the Haloverse is too busy worrying about honour and glory to care about things like tactics and strategy. Spec Ops elites are what happens when you fix that and those guys are easily on par with a Spartan.

Someone in the previous thread mentioned a desire for a Halo story without Spartans. Behold: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4305125/1/The_Enemy_of_My_Enemy
