    {Lets start things off once again shall we?}

The trip to the village was uneventful. The guards were reluctant to let the travelers in, but the village head soon came out to greet them as well. A quick glance at Clem, and they were hurriedly brought in and taken care of.

With agonizing effort, Clem was taken out of the wagon and brought into the healers house. Adel went to pay the healer with a silver, but was politely refused with a pat on the head. The village head took her aside to her their story.

He nodded sympathetically with each word, but you can see his eyes straying down every now and then, tracing her figure. Finishing her tale, the man spreads his hands out "Your friend is welcome to stay as long as it takes him to recover." He pauses and goes down into a bow "And you are also more than welcome to stay, my dear." Adel looks bewildered at this gesture "You are kind sir, but I'm unharmed unlike my friend, I still need to get to Citadel." The village head looks disheartened at this. "Thats....saddening to hear, but please enjoy your stay." He walks away.

    >*chuckle* "Are you unfamiliar with the affections of men?"

    "Eh? What do you mean?"

    >"He was trying to woo you."

"What? No he wasn't, h-he was just concerned is all." Adel's checks are getting redder.

    >*chuckle* "I spent many years at the side of a man that enjoyed his passions. I know the looks of a man when he is trying to get a woman."

Adel flushes red for a moment, then goes to the tavern to get a warm meal and a drink. Something that seems well deserved at this point.

Holy shit. I said this before and I'll say it again: You are the most dedicated quest giver ever. This is what, the second day in a row? After a 24 hour session? It's an incredible achievement.

Adel is cute. I'd like to preserve that if we can.

Anyway, did the caravan master survive? Because it's kind of a problem if the guy who pays us and has all of the merchant contacts is dead.

You don't know if anyone else managed to get out of there. But you did get a nice wagon filled with goods in the place of money, you just need to sell it.

If she's feeling up for it, perhaps we should return to the edge of the forest and see if any others were able to make it out. Though I suppose they would have come to this village as well if they had survived.

I think we should find a merchant to buy our cart and it's contents as-is for a lump sum, seeing how I don't believe either of us really want to take the time and effort to sell everything individually.

And what do we do with clem? He seems like an alright guy, but until he gets better he's kinda deadweight unless he has some other skills we're unaware of.

Maybe we should look for an arms master to train us.

Is Adel interested in the village head or no? Not trying to that guy this thread, but rend DID mention his former master was a man of great passions.

Also, should rend be urging adel to seek justice for her dead companions?

Yeah, what did Rend tell adel about geography?
    >> Anonymous 01/24/12(Tue)16:59 No.17659945
We are more likely to get a better price on those goods in Citadel, rather than here in a small village.

We're already something of an arms master.
As for justice, it was OUR caravan that set fire to the creatures' HOME. So, justice isn't really on our side in this.

Are you like asking for a map or something?

Okay, I think that Rend should make two suggestions. First, regardless of what we end up doing with the wagon and its cargo, we keep the horse. A good horse, especially one that's saved your life, is something you shouldn't give up any more than a good sword. Second, Clem clearly owes us a debt of gratitude. Let's see how well he recovers. I doubt he'll be able to run very well, but if we can get him up and walking and working, he would make a grand assistant. It would be worth it to get him even better medical care at the Citadel, even if it costs some silver, because Adel would be making him both more able and loyal.

Just putting it out there, of course. I want them presented as suggestions and options, not things that we're urging her to do.

Sipping on her ale, Adel listens to the bard play a song. It has become a habit for her to do this after something happens, a meal and drink, it seems to calm her. Her foot slowly tapping to the beat. Thanks to the kindness of one of the villagers, she was able to wash herself.

    >"So, what are you going to do with the wagon?"

"I'm going to take it to Citadel, and sell the goods and wagon, I might keep the horse though. I figure its the best way to get the most money from it." She says thoughtfully over her drink.

    >"And what of Clem? He could be useful if he healed."

Placing her drink down, she ponders the thought. "It is probably better for him to stay here, they can provide much more care than I can. Even if I chose to travel with him, its going to be a long time before he will be well enough to move again." She takes another sip then continues "I figure I'll wait here a few days, then move on to Citadel. Unless there is something you want to suggest?" She says glancing down at you.

"Hmm, you are right, it would be nice to have some human company on the road, and he would be able to get some better treatment." She scratches her face thoughtfully "Its going to all depend on what he wants to do." She finishes.

    >"Yes, his thoughts on the matter are required as well. In the mean time, since you are going to stay here for a few days, you may want to check around the forest edge to see if anyone else made it out. But that is entirely up to you, had they made it out they would have come here."

Check how long it'll take for him to be fit for travel again. In the meantime check out the road to see the damage and if there are any glaring hazards.
    >> Field !/MRkaMGfyI 01/24/12(Tue)19:16 No.17661537
The visit to Clem is informative. He tells Adel that he has family in Citadel, and the reason he took the guard job was to make a little bit of coin on the way there. He would like to leave with her, he really wants to, but the healer is downright refusing to let him leave in his condition, and threatens to tie him to the bed if he tries to. Asking around, the villagers are happy to tell that she has a reputation in these parts as one of the best healers.

The trip to the edge of the forest was a different story. You were greeted with a wall of yellow eyes glaring out from the forest. The charred remains of a wagon is present, along with a dead half burned horse.
    >> Anonymous 01/24/12(Tue)19:33 No.17661708
Can we get to the burnt wagon without putting ourselves in serious danger? There might be some good salvage in there. If not, let's head back to the village. We should talk to the healer woman about how long she expects it to take before Clem is in good enough condition to ride in the back of a wagon the rest of the way to Citadel. Based on that estimate, we should be able to see whether it would be a better idea to leave him here with the healer or wait around a while so he can hitch a ride.
    >> Field !/MRkaMGfyI 01/24/12(Tue)19:50 No.17661902
Feeling defeated, Adel checks the wagon, to see if there is anything left to salvage. To her surprise she finds another sack of pepper untouched by the fire. With the eyes making her feel uneasy, she returns to the town with the sack.

"I don't think anyone is going to be allowed to pass through the forest unharmed for a while." She says idly putting the pepper in with the others.

    >"Seems that way."

Returning to the healer, she asks when Clem will be able to travel again. Silencing the few shouts from Clem "I CAN travel woman! Let me leave already!" She looks hard at Adel "If both legs were just broke, it would have been fine. But the bones broke the skin on one leg. The wound started festering. If he leaves now he could catch a fever and die from infection on your way to Citadel."

With that, Adel returns to the tavern for her evening meal. Oddly enough, the same nostalgic song is being played once more, it must be famous with bards now.

"Oh this? Its an old folk song, I'm not sure where it originated from though, but its old. My father used to sing it to me. The bards like to sing it on nights when its raining..." She trails off, likely thinking of home. The poor girl has likely had to change her entire outlook on live these past few weeks.

Your own thoughts trail off, back to days long since past. The Green Tide came from the ocean to the northwest, Andrei's village was one of the first to fall. If it was not for his friend clubbing him in the back of the head, Andrei would have died in that village, fighting to his last breath. How ironic it was the very same friend that would later stab him in the back. It was a song that originated in the midst of the war, Adrei used to sing it himself, though he was a terrible singer.

if he's fine we hatch a plan to sneak away. lets not forget we're in a village in the middle of a weird forest, there's no knowing just how normal the villagers are. if he gets a fever, we wait till it breaks then leave/sneak away.

we should try and bring him to the citadel. we know no-one and nothing in the citadel. having his family who are locals owe us will be a good thing.

maybe there's work in the village if we decide to wait. if not we can use that time to train further. lets not forget we've only had one training session so far.

The song continues on, stirring up old memories still.

    >"Would... Would you like to hear some stories about my maker? I'm feeling nostalgic tonight for some reason..."

"Eh?" She looks at you oddly. You rarely talk about the past to her. "Of course, I would be honored."

    >*Chuckle*"You remind me of him sometimes... Andrei was a very passionate man, he always fought for what he believed in no matter who he made angry. When the Green Tide arrived on the northwest shore, Andrei's village was the first to fall. It was also the village I was forged in, a simple fishing village. When the first troops landed and started killing and raping, Andrei threw himself into the thick of it. He slew hundreds of Orcs that day. He hadn't even used me before, I had just been made early that day, and he wielded me with the all the fury of an angry God. But it wasn't long until he was pushed back into a narrow pass that lead up through the rocks. His best friend at the time, Lars, had managed to rally the remaining villagers, and had them push rocks up to the ledge. Lars managed to smack Andrei in the head with a rock, and pulled him to safety, while the villagers pushed rocks off the edge of the pass to block the way. Do you know what Andrei did when he awoke?"

She sits entranced by your tale "No, what?"

    >"He threw up, and confided to Lars how afraid he was. Before that battle, the closest Andrei had come to killing was the stray wolf that came into the village, or a deer. It was immediately after that he joined the kings army and fought tooth and nail against the Green Tide. He rose in ranks, until one brutal battle, he saved the kings life and held the Orcs off long enough for reinforcements to arrive. After that the king made him his personal guard and confidant."
    >> Field !/MRkaMGfyI 01/24/12(Tue)21:50 No.17663747
"What happened to Lars?" She eagerly asks.

    >*Sigh* "Lars....Lars enlisted as well, but was constantly in Andrei's shadow. The rumors that started to spread about me did not help any. "Its the sword, it must be the sword" he probably though, until one battle, he guarded Andrei's back, and Andrei was guarding the kings back. The king took an arrow to the shoulder, and Andrei went to help him. Lars stabbed him in the back with a poisoned blade, and Andrei fell."

She gasped and covered her mouth.

    >"But life is funny about these things, and right when Lars was about to claim his prize, Andrei's "power" he was struck with an arrow right through the heart."

There is silence as you finish your story. "Its not....quite the story they tell of your legend these days..." She admits

Rend. Adel is clearly a romantic, bright-eyed and naive, talented and yet lacking self-confidence. In this equation, we're the realistic mentor vicariously enjoying our apprentice's youthful exuberance. It's a terribly interesting dynamic. It's, of course, compounded by the fact that I get the distinct impression that Adel has developed a crush on Rend, despite him not having an animate body. Anyway, none of this is in-character knowledge or anything. Just things that I, as a player, am very much enjoying.

Your mind wanders a bit, telling the tale of Andrei had kicked up your memories about it. The battle, the excitement!

You nearly fell into a bit of a sleep when you thought you heard something, something scraping. Listening closer, you hear a soft *click*, and the door slowly swings open, reveling a looming silhouette in the doorway.

She awakes with a start and looks around confused. The shadow moves in quickly, nearing the bed. She sees it and reaches out instinctively for you, grasping you handle, but falls out of the bed onto the cold floor. The shadow moves quick, pinning her to the ground.

Struggling, she tries to get free of the attacker, who only chuckles as he wretches you free from her grip, tossing you to the side.

You feel helpless. You soon hear a cry has the assailant grabs one of her bare breasts rather roughly. "So, you sleep in the nude? That saves time." Adel gasps at the voice. Its the bastard Village head! "You should have agreed to stay peacefully...I can't let a beautiful woman like you escape me so easily. So it occurred to me, that if you take my seed, you won't be able to leave!"
    >> Anonymous 01/24/12(Tue)23:36 No.17665334
Moonlight filters in through the window, displaying the mans features. They are crazed, and hes slavering at the mouth, about to devour the girl, but his eyes, they have a yellow gleam to them! Adel seems to notice this and makes the face she made back in the forest, the one she made before she ran off the road. She lets out a yell and knees him square in the genitals, shoving him off herself. He roars in pain as she snatches you back up, pointing the blade at the mans throat.

The moonlight illuminates her tanned skin, it must have been quite the scene, a naked woman standing victoriously over the assailant who tried to rape her. "I just defended myself and my companion against you...you THINGS!" she screams at the possessed man. He simply stares at her and starts laughing, then the yellow fades from his eyes and he crumples back in a heap.

Adel gets dressed quickly, then calmly goes outside to the wagon, and sits down on it shaking.

Balling her shaking hands up into fists, she looks over to the healers house "Right." she says as she hops off the wagon and walks silently over to the house. Peering into the window, she sees the healer asleep in her bed. Carefully and slowly opening the door, she creeps in, her hand gripping you tightly. Clem is in the front room, next too the fire. Padding over silently, she shakes him awake, jarring him awake, but he is silenced with Adel placing a finger to her lips. She gestures outside and gets a nod from Clem.

Hoisting him up, the carefully make their way back outside to the wagon. Placing him in the back, he is looking at her strangely "What happened?..." She doesn't answer, as she gets into the drivers seat and sets the horse away.

Only once they were well away from the forest and village did she tell him of the possessed man, leaving out the part about the attempted rape you noticed. "You are going to find better healers in Citadel anyways." She finished. Clem agrees and goes back to sleep under his blanket.

I foresee a very tragic love triangle. Clem -> Adel -> Rend. I don't think it will be one that happens quickly, just slowly, over time. Once it does, though, it will eventually be resolved in tears. Unfortunately, I don't think that Rend knows even close to enough about those particular sorts of feelings to warn Adel this far in advance.

Adel was in much better spirits having a human companion with her you noticed. Clem provided the much needed physical contact you could not provide. Clem was at least four or five years her senior, though you had never thought to ask how old she was.

You were in two days into the trip when you come across another traveler. A tall brute of a woman, with a lute at her side and a giant of a sword over her back. "Hello friends!" She says in a roaring voice "It seems we are headin the same direction, perhaps we could share the road together?"

"Does that wench have a lute? Some music would be lovely." Clem shouts from the wagon. Giving her companion a look, he replies to the woman "The road is a perfect place for company." Throwing back her head in laughter, the woman takes her lute up and begins tuning it. "Where are you folks headed?" She asks in between plucks of strings. "Citadel." Adel replies. "Going to sell some wares, and get a healer." Clem adds, patting his legs.

"And where might you be going, miss...?" Adel asks. The woman roars with laughter "I'm been called many things, miss certainly isn't one thats been used often. Its Marla." She said idly, plucking some more strings "And I'm travelling to Dreadnought." She finished.

Adel waits for the warrior woman to focus on her instrument before speaking to you. "Whats Dreadnought?"

    >"A fort, far to the west, past Citadel. It served as a key location during the war with the Green Tide, and its also houses the only way through the mountains thats not by the sea. But there are....problems with that pass."

    "Problems? What kind?"

    >"Well aside from the stray goblin packs there are....well Dragons."

    "Dragons." She says in disbelief.

    >"Dragons. And the ones that serve them."

"What kind of person would serve a bunch of mythical creatures?"

    >"Some mages worship them as gods, but there is also the Dragonknights."

    "Dragonknights? What are they?"

    >"Exactly as it sounds. Knights who serve dragons. Andrei fought one once, one of our most grueling battles."

    >*Chuckle* "Do you want to hear the story?"

    She shakes her head excitedly.

    >"It was shortly after the Battle for Citadel, we had managed to repel the invading Orcs and force them back to the western shore. They had tried to find other ways to bypass the defensive line. The northern route was no good for them, because they hate the cold. The only option for them was to go through the mountains, which at the time was a dangerous and hellish place. Mountains that spewed fire, helhounds, insane dragon cults. But no one knew about the Dragons until the fighting began there. Sure there had been rumors, myths and legends, but their existence was widely unknown, with the exception of the men who manned Dreadnought. Andrei didn't believe their stories at first when we were stationed there, until on day he was awoken by a terrible roar, and rushed to his window to find a behemoth of a thing perched on top of one of the mountains, watching the soldiers prepping for battle below. Andrei could swear he saw someone on the thing. It stayed for a time, then flew off with a snap off its wings so powerful it set flat nearby trees. It was shortly after that, the armies met in battle amidst the mountains, a grueling fight, we had the upper ground, but the Orc's had better archers. The battle had been raging mere hours, when the same Dragon swooped down over the battlefield, spewing flames down killing scores on either side, and he wasn't alone, 6 more of the giants flew in after him, all just as massive and powerful. Together they dyed the field a hauntingly beautiful mix of orange, reds, whites, and even a green and blue."

Adel was too entranced in your story, and barely had time to steer the wagon away from a rock.

Both sides were thrown into chaos, and no one besides Andrei noticed six man shaped objects fall from the dragons. Then the screaming started, bodies flew everywhere and both sides began to retreat fast, Andrei rushed forward to try and take this new threat head on. He took but a few steps before he raised me in the blink of an eye, deflecting a blow aimed to kill. A large fully plated man stood in front of him, in one hand he carried a sword larger than your average man, he was flanked with five others, all in full plate wielding an assortment of large weaponry. Do you know what Andrei did when confronted with his?"

"No, what?" She says while trying to pay attention to the road.

    >"He challenged the man in the front to a duel. He declared that if he could win in a melee with him, they let both forces retreat unharmed. Neither the dragons or the men said anything, the man just raised his blade and readied himself, the others watched silently. They met with a clash, steel met steel as a fury of slashes, thrusts jabs, and kicks thundered out with a furious melody. They fought for hours, neither gaining the upperhand, neither willing to back down, both armies watched on in fearful astonishment. Soon however, Andrei fumbled a step, and the Knight gained the upperhand, pummeling down on him, tried to break his defense and lay the killing blow. Andrei soon back himself into a rock, and just as the final blow was coming down, he quickly dodged out of the way, and steel met rock. The force of the strike was so strong, the blade dug into the solid earth, so the Knight abandoned it as another threw a spear to him, however Andrei was quicker, and caught the spear mid throw, leveling it to point at the Knight. He just stood there as Andrei Strode up with me in one hand, spear in the other and slashed at his armored shell, only to have me ping off the armor. The Knight threw back his head and laughed, though his armored face did not betray his emotions, and turned, hauling his sword out of the stone. He turned to face Andrei, and Andrei offered the spear back to the Knight, who just pat him on the shoulder and left with his companions. That is my first and only encounter with the Dragonknights, savage to those who threaten their land, but honorable to a falt....though, I don't know how much of that has changed in the years since then."

The human parallel to being used to end a life is to be a soldier. Other than that, we're a weapon of war, forged from blood and sweat and given life by taking those of others. Sex is probably something we cannot know the feeling of, possibly the same for love/lust. The only penetration we know how to do is the killing kind.

Except we weren't made to be a weapon of war. We were made by a simple blacksmith who toiled with sweat, tears, and love to make a piece of art. He even named us after his son. Though we may be a weapon, we're something other than an instrument of war. It's all about the intent of creation, not the object itself.

Marla cracks a grin "When we set down for the night, I see no harm, but I do not know the styles of fighting for that blade, so it will have to be sparring." Adel nods "Thats fine, just as long as I get some practice."

That night, after the camp was set up, Marla smacked Adel around with a wooden stick while Adel tried to defend and attack. Clem just sat laughing his ass off.

    {Roll 1d100 to see how well the training went.}

Swords are made to kill shit. That's what they do. Any sword forged -- no matter the reason -- was forged with that underlying intent. Even if it's decorative, it can still kill and was forged in the fashion of a weapon of war.

Therefore a sentient sword should have at least a passing interest in killing things. Maybe it doesn't consume it, but spilling blood and doing what it was created to do (kill things) should be something it enjoys nonetheless.

    >The sword can bring out people's potential.

A sword is a weapon. The art of swordsmanship is learning how to kill. That is the truth.

That is sweet and innocent talk that only those who have never stained their hands with blood can believe.

But I much prefer the sweet and innocent talk, over the truth indeed I do. I hope that one day it can become the truth, for all of us to live by.

If we're keeping the horse, then a lute shouldn't be too much extra weight for the horse to carry.

She said back in the first town we came to that she knows how to play a fiddle. She's already picked up an instrument, she just needs to buy a new one. I think we already suggested to her in the last thread that she buy a fiddle in Citadel, actually. I just hope a good one doesn't cost too much silver.

Do you think she should invest in a chain shirt? Right now she has some banged-up musty old leathers.
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)11:23 No.17682096

Oh. did she? Okay, a fiddle is a fine instrument. She really does need better armor though, perhaps she could train in the use of a shield or buckler as well?
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)11:23 No.17682097
Ah, you're right about the fiddle. I'd completely forgotten about it.

A chain shirt would be nice. Depending on how much money we can get for the salvaged goods, and if Adel decides to get more work or try to travel home, it may be a good investment.
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)11:30 No.17682154
A buckler is a fine item to use with the twisty style that you use with a scimitar - a genuine shield less so. Plus, bucklers are so useful as knuckledusters. I suppose we are getting ahead of ourselves, though. Adel has less than twenty silver coins of actual currency right now - a windfall by any account, but not enough to but armor, shield, and fiddle, I'm sure.

The night wears peacefully on after the sparring. Feeling bad for the beating she gave Adel, Marla makes it up by passing around her own skin of wine. Soon talk starts to get nostalgic, and they start talking about home and times past, Adel speaks of her situation of how the Noble bought her and she was forced to kill him and flee to the east, chased by his thugs. Marla frowned at the story, Clem listened with wet eyes and then turned grim when her story came to the caravan and the forest.

"Thats why I'm on the road to Citadel" She finishes "I hope maybe I can find some kind of new life, because even if I go back home, it will never be the same." By that time the skin has made it around to her, and she takes a few healthy gulps, then passes it to Marla, who passes it to Clem.

"You poor girl.." She says moving closer "I once knew another who had something similar happen to them, and she found this helped more than the drink" With that Marla scooped Adel up in her arms with a squeak from Adel, and placed her in her lap, wrapping her arms around her, and pushing her head to her to her rather large chest and held her there speaking softly "A hug is sometimes far better than a drink..." She whispers, and soon Adel wraps her own arms around the giant woman, and buries her face into her chest as her shoulders starts shaking. She cried herself to sleep.
    >> Field !/MRkaMGfyI 01/26/12(Thu)12:39 No.17682879
Carefully placing her underneath her blankets, Marla tucks her in for the night, and returns to the fire, softly strumming her lute. "That was rather touching" Clem called across the fire "You never comforted me when I told my story." He said sullenly. Marla grins "There is only one way to comfort a man, and I would rather not break your legs once more doing it." With a "BAH" Clem turns his back to the woman, trying to sleep. Marla's eyes traced back to the girl, and then to you, laying next within her grip. "You take good care of that girl, you hear me?"

"You say something to me?" Clem calls, drawing her eyes away from you "Of course Clem, who else would I be talking too?" She says returning to her music. She soon retired for the night as well. A strange woman indeed.

    >"..." Of course I will, foolish woman.

You may have spoken that more than thought it, but the others were asleep anyways. You turned your gaze to the sleeping girl beside you. Adel has grown since you first met her, in the field of blades. No longer was she the completely clueless village girl that desperately tried to find you, though there still was some naivety, but she was growing out of it. You will support her as much as you can, you will be damned to lose another master.

Adel suddenly moved in her sleep, muttering something, and pulling you close, clutching you to herself. Luckily your blade was point away from her.

The girl seemed to think something great of you, despite learning that almost all of your legend was largely exaggerated. She seemed to think you were something largely important and comforting, but you didn't really understand why. Much like you didn't understand the warm feeling you got when she gripped your handle at times, or this oddly pleasing feeling you are getting as she hold you close to her.

You have experienced so many new things since leaving the field. Watching Andrei do them was enough for you to know what they were, but you had never experienced them personally until this past month and were having trouble identifying them.

    "...heheh..air-splitter.." Adel mutters.

One thing is for certain, you are fairly certain you didn't hate this.

The next morning finds you back on the road again, and Adel is in considerably higher spirits, and Marla isn't giving you any attention at all. Its not long before you come across a steady incline, and crest the top to find your destination.

    >"Good lord!"

"WOW!" gasps Adel in awe at the sight. Clem lets out a low whistle, and Marla just chuckles at the reactions.

"This is amazing! Look-look how big it is!" She shouts excitedly.

    >"Well its certainly gotten bigger...a LOT bigger since I was here last."

The sprawling capitol stretches outwards from the large fort resting on top of the rocky mountains into the fields below. The last time you had been here, only the fort was in the mountains, with a small few houses down below, but now even the fort had additions that weren't there before. It was remarkable.

Marla breaks the awed silence by walking down the hill "Come on then, if you two just keep gawking at it we will never get there!" Fumbling with the reins, Adel gets the horse started once more, following after her companion.

The ride down to the gate of Citadel is a hubbub of chatter. Clem is excitedly talking about his family; it turns out that his uncle and his wife run a brewery here, and Clem was offered a job that would give him more profit in the long run. Also something he let slip, he owned a small tavern in his home village, and even brewed his own drinks. His uncle was something of a brew master, and he wanted to learn new recipes to bring back to his home.

Marla on the other hand, speaks of the wonders in the city, and give Adel some advice as a fighting woman on the road, lest she run into the wrong kind of trouble. She also told them the best place to get a drink and a bed, all they had to do was tell the barkeep her name.

When they neared the gate, which in itself was quite impressive, Marla turned to her head to he travel companions. "I'm afraid its time for us to part ways." She says with a sad smile. "What?! You aren't even going to spend the night?" Adel asked, obviously hurt. "I have more own path I must walk, and something I must retrieve. Sitting around on my hands drinking and singing wont get me an closer to finding it." She says, turning down the path heading away from Citadel, she calls back "Farewell! Remember what I told you Adel, there are many dangers on the road, but even more so for women!" Her eyes rest on you for a moment "Small world isn't it..." she half says to herself, shaking her head. With a wave she sets back off "Goodbye!" Adel calls to her "I'm sure we will meet on the road again sometime Marla!" Turning her head back Marla nods "Of course!"

With farewells said, both go their respective ways. Its but a moment before Adel glances down at you "What did she mean by "small world"?"

    >"I honestly have no idea...."

You finally reach your destination. Marla certainly was an odd woman.

    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)22:35 No.17690055
Well lets suggest getting Clem to his folks and then getting some armor for Adel. We won't be able to afford good plate obviously. Maybe some Brigadine like a jack of plates with a chain shirt or just a chain hauberk if that is a bit much, both of these obviously with a light Gambeson underneath. If we can't afford that or if that would overburden Adel a thick Gambeson would work. All of these options with a focus on mobility rather than protection as she isn't used to armor and speed would probably work best with her build and our sharpness.

I had a thought on some advice from if you might want to add it (you can rewrite bits if you like, if you use it):

I once sought out a reclusive man who was a touted as a very skilled armsmaster of many styles, some who's secrets were left to die with him, like the fabled Northern Broad Strike. When I found him, I was suprised to find he'd become a pacifist and refused to teach anyone, including myself, despite the gifts I brought along with me.

I spent a year hounding that man in the most polite way I could manage, promising my body, mind and soul, and still he would not teach me.

When the year ended, he came to me and said if I promised to leave he would give me the finest blade he owned. Being young, starved, and greedy, I agreed.

He then sat down in the dirt next to me and told me of a time of war before the peace times I was born into. A time of upheaval, uncertainty, where romantic storys of bladeslingers were born. People came to him wanting to be like these dashing heroes of yore, and he taught them, only to have them one by one get cut down. See, there was a difference between people like him and people like I. When they pulled a blade, they knew it was their life in their hands. They knew they were going to get cut. They knew if they didn't finish the fight in one blow, they were dead. Their Will to live was what made their swords swim through the air and seek their opponents hearts. Their Will to live let them walk away from all those bloodstrewn battlefields in one piece. Will to live turned blacksmiths into tiny gods. He looked at me, and I could see in his eyes a cold determination that ran like a knife into my heart, even in his old age this man as both prepared to die and knew he would not lose.

With that he got up and went back in his tiny hut on the mountain.

"But wait, where's this blade you promised me?"

He turned and glared at me. "I just GAVE it to you, ungrateful bastard! Now get off my mountain!"

    Oh, wow, that's spectacular.

The will to fight is far sharper than any blade.

    >"Now get off my mountain!"

    Why did I laugh?

I can't wait to ride around Citadel on Adel's hip.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/12(Fri)09:48 No.17695045
Indeed. A blade by itself is no good, it's the wielder that makes the difference.

I thought the message was that since there was no longer a need for men with death in their hearts and the man had become a pacifist, he had also gotten rid of his blades. He gave him his finest blade - nothing. He didn't have any blades at all.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/12(Fri)10:51 No.17695383
The point was that the master's finest blade wasn't a physical thing. It was the will to embrace death in order to survive, the sword in his heart. With it, even a blade of grass could be a deadly weapon in the master's hands.
That's what he was trying to show; physical equipment and a plethora of techniques is nothing compared to the strength of a swordsman's will.

    Whys that?

Should be a fine adventure. A whole city to explore! Fun.

    I can see your point

Marla is a dragon knight. She knows Rend because she saw him up close when her armor got cut.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/12(Fri)14:09 No.17696827
Wasn't there like 5 others besides the one Andrei fought? Rend didn't even cut through the armor, he pinged off.

Yeah, that's what >>17691791 was saying.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/12(Fri)14:12 No.17696850
Which is saying something, considering we're sharp enough to cut magic itself (which I assume is a fancy way of saying that there's a chance to straight-up dispel a magic effect that's attacked or parried).

Slipped through his post. Yeah, I agree then.

I wonder if Dragon knights are like in Drakengard, exchanging parts of their souls for power and all that jazz. I wonder if the something they stole was that little piece... or a friend or something of the sort.

The old mans weapon is Will. To live, to love, to survive.
He knows if he goes into a fight not knowing for certain that he is going to walk away from it, then he's going to die there. And that's the reason he's still alive.

He could teach you a lost style of fighting.
He could give you a weapon of outstanding quality.

Instead, he shows you the nature of survival, the "its me or them, and I won't die here" attitude, the steely resolve that makes a man get up everyday and train, that makes him draw his weapon a hair faster than the other guy, that keeps himself alert and poised even when he's been fighting a long time.

In a way, he gave you what you wanted from the start, though you thought what you wanted was something else.

    Or another sentient weapon.
    >He turned to face Andrei, and Andrei offered the spear back to the Knight, who just pat him on the shoulder and left with his companions.

It doesn't say that Andrei gave it back. Maybe Marla is the owner of the spear, and they have a sort of "honor trophy" thing like Predators. But someone took the spear from Andrei or something.

    Rather, he IS the blade.
