    You're gonna rob a bank.

    Know why?

    'Cause.

You did the nine to five and that's something you'll never recover from. You tried the military and all they did was yell at you. You tried the church and they asked you for money.

Now you're going to make your own way in the world, but you need something to ease the transition from pencil-pusher to globe-trotting playboy.

    Something like cold, hard cash.

So here you are in your lower middle-class domicile looking for potential hits. You don't have any equipment or intel yet, you just need to figure out which piggy bank is getting cracked.

Wellington's Financial Services is smack in the middle of downtown. It's a metropolitan area, lots of eyes and ears and cops, but Wellington's is bursting at the seams with cash. There's no way you could take it on by yourself, but you'll figure that out later.

Norm and Sons' Credit Union is a banking franchise with a bunch of venues all around town. There may not be as much money in their vaults as in other banks', but the sheer number of venues gives you the bonus of unpredictability.

Then there's Cruz International near the city limits. In the news lately for some kind of scandal, very hush-hush about it. Their profits may be off the books, but what do you care? With all that media attention there's no way their minds are on security detail.

    What do you choose?
    -------------------------------------------------------
    ZEH SYSTEM:

When I ask you to roll, you roll 2d6. If the total is over 8, you succeed. If you don't, you fail. Modifiers adding to and subtracting from your total will be posted before each action.

    Clear? Good.

Wellington's Financial Services, because it'll be more fun breaking into a high security bank in the long run.

I reconsider this plan after some careful thought about the long-term success of bank robberies and decide that daylight robberies and evening home-invasions in upper-middle class areas will net more profit with less FBI investigation.

Borrow or steal a plain white work van like the millions seen daily, add a bland "Rodriguez Plumbing" magnet to the sides. Have the most bland looking team member knock on the front door with overalls, a clipboard and a cover story if someone is actually home. When he gives the OK we back the van farther up the driveway, head in through the side door and load up with easy to shift goods.

Keep the time short, remember to check bedrooms and get jewelry/ Check basket by the door into the garage for the spare key to the car parked in there. Leave the neighborhood slowly and respectably.

You need to scope out the bank and get some equipment, but you don't have to do that in order.

Mooks are good for knocking heads and taking the fall, provided of course they're not smart enough to think the same of you.

You need some good, semi-trustworthy plods to form your crew. Since there isn't a Craigslist for criminals, you hit the streets looking for compatriots.

After a few days of carousing some seedy bars and hilariously stereotypical underground fight clubs, you manage to scrounge up a decent bunch of guys.

Ricardo's an old boxer, no criminal history to speak of but he's good with his hands and strong as a damn ox.

Mel's an asshole, but he's a crack shot with a pistol and he knows a couple of foreign languages.

James is a former family man who, embittered by a bad divorce, decides to lend his technological skills to your team. He's naive and kind of a load but he's like Steve Jobs and Wozniack when it comes to computers.

You get them together in your house, shoot the shit, get to know each other. Seems like a pretty decent crew, all things considered.

    Now you need some equipment.

Handguns, of course, maybe some shotguns or machine pistols to intimidate the bank employees. Rifles if we can get them; something with a little more punch for when the cops show up.

Kevlar if we can find any, definitely masks & gloves. Zip ties to secure hostages, power tools and computers to crack security. Extra ammo, and of course, big duffel bags for carrying the loot.

Mel pulls a few favors with his buddies at the local gun club and gets a hold of some pretty intense weaponry.

    Your armory is:
    3x AK-74
    3x Glock 17
    2x AR-15 (modded, fully automatic)
    10 pounds of homemade explosives
    4 Kevlar vests

There's enough ammunition for all of them and then some.

James brings some Halloween masks his kids used last year and Ricardo hooks you up with a windowless white van.

You're starting to feel like proper bank robbers!

Now comes the tedious part: the plan.

Cruz International may be small but it's still a bank. Surveillance cameras are everywhere and you can bet your ass they've got silent alarms.

You need to scope out the bank and get some details before running in and grabbing the loot.

You and the guys get a schedule together and over the course of the next few days you stake out the bank.

Roll to see what you find out.

James turns out to be an Internet beast. He finds complete blueprints for the bank.

Mel and Ricardo pose as painters for a few days and note the guard changes and who moves the money.

The last guard change is at 5:00, the bank closes at 5:30.

Surveillance cameras are at the entrance to the bank and around the perimeter.

The teller working the late shift is an old woman, she keeps the keys to the teller's box in a little drawer next to her table.

The vault operates on time lock and is only open between 11:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M.

    You have a choice:
Go in at night and grab the money from the teller's box or...

Go in when the safe's open and loot the vault.

10:55: Entry. You and Ricardo will enter the bank and take positions, you in the line for the teller and Ricardo near the door. James and Mel will be waiting outside in the van. (It's a small bank)

11:00: The vault opens. The silent alarms will most likely be activated and the police will be on their way. Speed is the key here.

11:10~11:15: Exit bank with money and get the hell out of there.

You're looking like a boss in your suit. It's a Dollar Store buy, nothing to be proud of, but hey it fits.

You pull up to the parking lot of Cruz International in your van, and all those empty spaces make you smile. Your watch says 10:50, all the guys set theirs to your time.

You step out of the van, and the heist begins.

The bank is a little run down, but it looks nice in a cheap sort of way. You mosey on to the teller line while Ricardo pretends to read an informational pamphlet by the door.

    10:54.

You're next in line and the weight of the Glock underneath your coat somehow feels more significant. The blonde behind the desk looks at you lazily.

    "Next."

    10:55.

    EVERYBODY GET THE FUCK DOWN

Ricardo pops on a T-Rex mask and shoves his pistol into the rent-a-cop's face. You follow suit, donning your Jason Hockey mask and brandishing the AR.

You tell Ricardo to give you the money, and he almost bolts out of the door. A pitiful cry from James holds him back though. You tell him to get the fuck over here and help James up or he's out.

The duffel bag hits you hard in the chest and Ricardo picks James up in a fireman's carry. James pukes all over Ricardo's side.

You toss the duffel bag in the van and throw James in the back, climb in, and speed out of there.

    11:13.

    James is crying.

    What do you do?

Stuff some kind of cloth in his mouth and apply pressure to the wound. In the event that I get a 2 and James is strangled by that cloth kill all three and then yourself.

You drive past everything, and the next minutes are a blur.

You park in your garage and carry James inside. He's mumbling to himself now and he's very pale. The back of your van is full of blood, but none got on your duffel bag full of loot.

You set up a little surgery area in your kitchen, setting a big blue tarp on the floor to hold the blood.

Ricardo and Mel grab beers from the fridge and down them.

This was a suck ass day.

    James starts crying again.

Ricardo grabs a wooden spoon from your kitchen counter and stuffs it into James' mouth.

You rip off a piece of your coat and tie it tightly around James' thigh, above the wound.

The bleeding has stopped, but James is still in a bad way. He'll never walk on his left leg again. He whimpers pitifully.

You ask Mel if he knows anyone who could help, and he tells you there's a Chinese dude in downtown that will do it off the record.

Your van is full of blood and the cops are no doubt looking for you.

You stuff James into Mel's car, which he parked by the street. Ricardo sits in the back to keep James' leg elevated.

Although you're shocked, you still have enough sense to hide your duffel bag full of loot before you leave and lock your door.

The drive to downtown is tense, especially because James stopped moaning after a little while. Ricardo slapped him and he woke up.

The Chinese restaurant was small and dingy, but the alley next to it was secluded enough for you guys to get James into the back room.

The owner, Mao, is a tiny little man with friendly eyes and a balding head. He tries to make jokes, but none of you are laughing.

He put James on top of an unplugged frying table, shot him up with a little morphine, and went to work on his knee.

The hours crept by. Ricardo was on his fifth beer and Mel couldn't look at James without grimacing. You are on your last cigarette and your face feels numb.

Mao looks up at you and says, "He good. He live. No walk for three months." He laughs after that, and says, "No walk ever."

Mel pays the little man and you put James back in your car and go back to your house to inspect your loot.
    --------------------------------------------------------
It's 5 o'clock in the evening now and, which James situated comfortably on the living room couch, you, Ricardo, and Mel check out your haul.

Stacks of hundred dollar bills cover your bed. In all, you count $90,000 in tax free greenbacks.

You split it up between yourselves, leaving James' share in the duffel bag.

You look out the window at the setting sun.

This will be much harder than you thought.
    --------------------------------------------------------

    Heist Grade: F

That couldn't have gone any worse, but there's comfort in that. You've hit rock bottom and the only way to go is up.

You made off with $90,000, not bad for a first attempt. Split four ways and minus $1000 for James operation, that's $22,250 a piece.
