136 KB TG Quest 46: End of Ebongelion, Finale. MetaQuest OP 01/07/12(Sat)00:24 No.17450144

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17446362/

The fifteen foot vault door slowly creaks open with the combined efforts of BLU team yanking on it while Soldier peers inside. He doesn't last a second before an oily black tentacle with bony armor plates lashes out from within the depths, wrapping around Soldier's head and easily twisting it off before more tentacles grasp the body and drag it inward. Your light falls upon the vault's interior, illuminating a vast bulk of dark, rubbery, amorphous flesh studded with bony plates and a single glowing red sphere that looks like it might be a gem. As you watch, the monster begins to absorb Soldier's remains into its mass.

A note on setting, since it was brought up in the last thread. I cannot reveal too much due to plot reasons, but one thing you should note at least is that for all their talk, the Transpace Guard does NOT know the true nature of the Meta, and its inner circles discourage lines of inquiry into it.

    Just for anyone interested.
Our plan is to take Cheryl, a Canon character, make her a Persona user, then have her use her psychic powers (as well as the after-mentioned Persona) to kill Ebon Night, the personification of Pain and Torture.

Look how far we have fallen. Creating SUEs...
My god, what have we become?

Make sure that those containment force field emitters are online! The MI will be able to use their phaser rifles through them by modulating the phaser frequency to match that of the force fields.

I still think this is a very bad idea.

Having non-canon-native powers on a character who we may leave inside a canon will pose a strong contamination risk.

One, her canon is do with her.

I lament that most of our combat situations recently have been "locate enemy, fire everything, repeat step two."

While we're shooting, we should have somebody on "effectiveness watch." Their job is to see what kind of attacks do the most harm to the enemy. Most creatures from Lovecraft's works get hurt by lightning.

The two Prawns think quick and fire their lightning guns at the tentacles holding them. The limbs drop the mechs and retract into the monster's quivering mass as the Prawns take minor damage from falling. As Mobile Infantry fire is joined by the combined force of BLU team, the monster's bony plates begin to assemble themselves to better deflect incoming fire. The gem cracks again, then begins to shine even brighter, and an orange, angular force field begins to emanate from it, deflecting all the bullets and causing a storm of ricochets that almost manages to take down Sniper and Scout. Medic manages to patch them in time, however.

Not necessarily. Though self-destruct is something that the Angels are known to do when they've suffered fatal damage.
    >> Anonymous 01/07/12(Sat)00:50 No.17450410

A strong positron rifle blast (some sorta charged particle weapon?) was able to break through an AT field.

However, we have phasers that we can modulate to fire at different frequencies. We may be able to bypass the field or disrupt it if we get the right frequency.

Alternatively, we can have medic supercharge the Heavy and have him punch through it if he punches hard enough.

Energy beams and bullets bounce off the creature's force field as it flails around with its tentacles. These attacks are mostly ineffectual though, Medic healing up the damage from being swatted as fast as the creature can strike. Attack after attack fails against the creature until...

Two of the Prawn suits attempt to use their TK-fields to RIP the orb out from the creature. With a sickening shlorp of flesh, the gem begins to rip free from its slimy moorings as the monster thrashes around in agony.
    >> Anonymous 01/07/12(Sat)00:54 No.17450449

The AT-fields are more or less an angel or an EVA creating a transparent (albeit glowy and stylized) physical barrier. Since telekinesis only requires line-of-sight to work, the Prawn suit TK abilities should work just fine.

With a sound like snapping wire, the last strands of the creature's flesh give way and the red orb rolls forth from the monster. Spy and Pyro are grabbed by tentacles and immediately smashed to a bloody pulp by the monster as it furious tries to break past BLU to reach its gem-like organ, but the massed firepower of the team keeps it back. Without the AT-field, all it has left is the bony plates, and those do not prove enough against phasers and ARC cannon. It was the basalt hatch.

Day 5 rolls around, and the scientists report that they've been able to piece together the course of the Elder Thing's research. The shoggoths in the sealed chambers were indeed attempts to harness the power of the World Pillar to created shoggoths capable of manipulating space and time at a fundamental level. Tests were conducted on the shard, a piece of the Pillar they had discovered buried in ice not too far from the main chamber. The Elder Things are not sure what caused the shard to be cut off, but deemed it a boon to their research to have something to run tests on. Mention is also made of another artifact removed from the pillar site, a twisted trident that screamed.

Several of the strange machines encountered by the team were in fact, data-storage devices. With careful experimentation, VP-99 is able to access them with science team guidance. They are working on digging through those, right now.

Time and space manipulation with shards huh?

    It's dawned on me.

The Elder things made an experiment and created Chaos Emeralds!

    >>When someone harnesses the power of one or more of the Chaos Emeralds, they can perform different Chaos Powers, such as Chaos Control, and occasionally get their own abilities enhanced. When absorbing all seven Chaos Emeralds, they can initiate a super transformation, which usually gives a person the power to fly, invincibility, increased Chaos Powers and improved physical - and special abilities.

    >>Chaos Control (カオスコントロール) is a phenomena/ability in which one can warp time and space with the mystical Chaos Emeralds, and first utilized by Shadow the Hedgehog during the events of Sonic Adventure 2.

    >> Anonymous 01/07/12(Sat)19:27 No.17458368
Ok, so Ebon Night stole the World Pillar from somewhere, stole the embryonic Adam from post-contact Evangelion, and fused Adam into a shard from the World Pillar to provide it with power so that Ebon Night could use it to manipulate the world.
Indicating some instability with his pulls, he managed to merge ancient timelines of the Elder Things with the World Pillar and embryonic Adam.
I've been noticing a trend where the bigger his actions are on the world, the more unintended carry-through seems to occur as well. In Tokyo he melded 'gods' of evil together and managed to drag protagonists through as well. I doubt Ebon Night planned on that, or on the Elder Things finding and studying his keystone. Also, bringing in the spear seems unlikely to have been planned as well. (Side note on the screaming, the Spear has been shown to roar at times, perhaps the screaming is not crossover contamination. Though if it is crossed over, I suspect it would be tied with the source of the Pillar, just as the Adam was spliced into a piece of it.

It's possible that the shoggoth in the room with the basalt hatch is either a security system or still subservient. The same is likely of the shoggoths still in stasis, since they wouldn't have had a chance to develop the psi-resistance and rebellious nature before being put in stasis.
Wait for Cheryl and the other telepaths to arrive before messing with them.

The Aurors have not made progress and do not have the materials or facilities to research the patchwork spell further.

By the end of Day 5, your scientists report that they have managed to dig up a basic analysis of the way the World Pillar works. By siphoning the power of Adam, along with certain ley-lines and ambient energies, the World Pillar draws in threads of space-time, twists them and entangles its own energies within them, and then spools them back out again, altered. In this way it can effect almost any change imaginable on this world, limited only by the time it takes to 'charge' from the power emitted by Adam.

From the data here, it looks like the pillar would be able to accomplish changes much, much faster if Adam was re-fused with it, dramatically improving efficiency and speed.

This data suggests destroying the pillar would result in unraveling the fabric of this world. This is probably intentional as a way to make sure no one tampers with the device in an attempt to 'save the world'.

    Work is ongoing.

Egon has already postulated that doing so would result in an Impact-level event. This must be avoided.

It sounds as though we need Cheryl to wrest control of the Pillar from Ebon Night, and then use it to destroy him.

We know that the Elder Things had placed seals on the stasis chamber that Adam was placed within; if we remove Adam from within the chamber, would the amount of energy sent by the crystal shard increase? We will likely need more energy available when having Cheryl fight Ebon Night.

We don't have any of the other shards because they're still in the stasis chambers.
We don't have any of our psionic troops down in Antarctica because they're still undergoing training with the Farseers and Cheryl.
With a psionicist we can try to take control of the shoggoths; without, they are likely to attack us and result in casualties.

The brain was destroyed when the skull of the skeleton was shattered with a mind bullet.

The Farseers report that Cheryl unlocking the powers of a Persona will not really help her in what she must do with the Ebon Night. Although her unlocked Personae will be the most powerful of the possibilities selected, she will already be gaining comparable powers. Essentially you would be giving her a weapon she already has, and she can only use one at a time.

The Farseers saw enough to know that for the best results, the powers of Persona must be unlocked in either an elite unit or hero unit. Grunt units will not provide as strong a Persona.

Of your current candidates, the Farseers managed to see a hint of what each would gain.

The lance is only slightly larger than human scaled. Someone could wield it with only a little bit of difficulty.

The Elder Thing research indicated it held some strange resonance with the pillar and shard, but were not sure what the relationship was. It was theorized that maybe this weapon was used to cut the shard from the pillar. Its listed properties included a great ability to pierce energy fields, and the energy it resonated with made it disrupt creatures relying on psychic or etheric energies to survive, making it deadly against them. Psychic species feel uneasy, even sick around it, though non-psychics do not seem to be affected in this manner.

I might start up a new thread tonight. I'd like to at least get to the battle.

Considering its properties and size, it should be usable by a Knight, possibly a Silencer.

Time stop? That really reeks of Chaos Emerald fuckery. It's usually Shadow who likes to spam time stop.

    >blue-crystal shoggoth
Your powers of reading comprehension are staggering.

There's still one more blue, and a red-crystal shoggoth. That would be another time-manipulator and probably some kind of hybrid Angel/shoggoth.

Make sure that the SCP troopers collect the blue crystals for later research.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:28 No.17462766
    Fuck. You have a point.
I hate to say this but we may have to kill it now simply to prevent the thing from attacking us while we're fighting Ebon Night.

Harvest the crystals off that dead shoggoth and match its signature to a Chaos Emerald, again.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:29 No.17462779
Have the Observer scan the blue crystals. Is the energy signature a match for Chaos Emeralds? Or are we dealing with something else?

"Dere's nothing of the dead left ta gather, mon," Tosh says, solemnly. "Lyla, Elaine, and dere buddies already got up on dere feet who could be helped." Tosh points to the SCP troopers carefully plucking crystals from the corpse. "It ain't much, but we got somethin' ta study later, at least. Hope it be worth da blood."

There's a scary kind of point there.

We probably want the Spear up front from now on.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:30 No.17462790
But if Ebon Night could directly manipulate objects, would it have opened the seal on Adam and moved it closer to the World Pillar, so that it would have access to more power?

    Let's not be hasty here.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:30 No.17462793
Because if it matches a Chaos emerald, then we need to use it with a psychic to fight the other shoggoths to cancel out the time-space effects, hopefully.
    >> MetaQuest OP 01/08/12(Sun)03:30 No.17462794
Those the gems bear some similarities, they are NOT chaos emeralds.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:31 No.17462801

GOOD ENOUGH. We better use these crystals as a canceller of sorts.

    >"Do ya really want us ta open da other chambers?"
Is everyone ready for the next fight? I'd like to open the next chambers so the Ebon Night can't suddenly send Shoggoths up our asses.

Do we have Voiceless spear, Darius with Ringil, Lance of Longinus with Silencer, Star Lord with Anguriel, and whoever has the Great Katana down there?
Buff them, have them go in first, and hit the Shoggoths with a massive wave of holy. Abjurers should get up protection wards and walls of ectoplasm to fire through.
MIs, Prawns, KIs ... everyone ready to fire.

And let's open the chamber of the one with the red crystals. =)

Have the X-COM scientists concentrate their search in the research materials on the blue crystals and red crystals. See what powers the Elder Things unlocked with them.

While everyone catches their breath, have one of the X-COM psi-veterans examine one of the blue crystals, try to manipulate it with their powers.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:38 No.17462846

When we have phasers and other energy weapons that will disintegrate such materials in volumes measured in cubic feet.

    Not anymore we don't.
We're just down to VP-99 and the Observer.

    >blow the living fuck out of it from range?
Explosions don't do much damage to a shoggoth; it'll just pull itself back together.

And everybody said I was retarded for considering SIR units for drones.

Are our reality emitters being overpowered by the crystals, by the way?

    >And everybody said I was retarded for considering SIR units for drones.
    You are.
There are other battle droids we could purchase that are more reliable and have just as much capability for combat.
    >> MetaQuest OP 01/08/12(Sun)03:50 No.17462912
Your reality emitters do not appear to affect the crystals.

Two hours of experimentation reveals nothing useful save that you'd need to haul them to the Storm for extensive tests for any useful data.

Darkness is beginning to fall. Depending on how generous the Ebon Night's definition of 'night' is, you have anywhere from an hour to two and a half before he takes action.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:52 No.17462922
Start working on the World Pillar. We want to possibly "fix" it before Ebon Night comes to screw things up.

Hopefully, we can cut him off before he has a chance to attack, weakening him.

Night and day can last for months at the pole.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:54 No.17462937
Right. Break open one last room (the one with the red crystal'd shoggoth), grab the crystals, and Hoof it to the pillar.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/12(Sun)03:55 No.17462942
I think we should chance it and NOT open the other stasis chambers.

Get everybody up to the World Pillar room, and have the shield emitters and all of the bolter turrets set up covering the entrances to the chamber.
Get all non-psychics ready to repulse conventional attacks by shoggoths, and have the psychics do what needs to be done with the Pillar. Have the KI with the Lance on hand, and the spirit of Gondegal.

Have VP-99 ready to bring the shard with Adam up to the World Pillar room if Cheryl is able to get control of the Pillar and needs more power. It is not come close to the Lance, or be allowed to fuse with the Pillar.

    >> MetaQuest OP 01/08/12(Sun)04:10 No.17463029
Just that the crystals were not implanted into the shoggoth, but rather the shoggoths were altered to be able to grow the crystals from their bodies and use them. The Elder Thing data vaults contain the accumulated data of the centuries, if not millenia this facility was operational. Throw in the language barrier, and looking for a specific item becomes rather difficult.

Anyway, looks like you're headed for the pillar. We'll open with that tomorrow. A plan may be in order. Good night all.
