    Do you like Mecha, /tg/?

This is a Game System for all kinds of Mecha action, from your typical Gundam to the craziest of combiners and transforming types.

It is relatively rules-light, I like to think of it as if FATE and DnD 4th Edition had a child, then Super Robot Wars had to raise it.

    I hope you like it.

I have not had a chance to read this all the way through, but I like the style. Shows you put some serious work into it, which means you are not one of those flaky faggots that put 2 weeks into their "lolawesome homebrew" and never touch it again.

    Checking out rules right now.

I think that instead of doing a square grid with complicated movement rules for diagonals, you should have gone with a hex grid.

I'll admit that I haven't given it a complete read yet, but so far I can't see anything that would be would be hurt by the change, and several things that would be improved.

I've been running something as somewhat of a 'campaign test' for OP, for a little bit now.

As far as I've seen, single combat occurs phenomenally fast - if you're on the ball about it, you can get to 10 tension in about twenty minutes including fluffing attacks.

    Passive defenses work fine.

Actually making machines is really fun because while the rules and numbers are relatively superfast, the fluffing is free enough that - as long as your GM allows it - you can pretty much make your magical dream robutt. Might sound a bit wankish, but as long as the GM is clear about 'power levels' and as long as you keep the rival Aces' Upgrade Points slightly higher than your players' machines, fights can and will still be awfully close regardless of how speshulsnoflaek any description may be.

So OP, I have a few questions:
    1. How crucial are the non-piloting sections? Pilots don't operate like adventurers in most games, they're not expected to do everything by themselves. What kind of stuff is supposed to get done during these sections?
    2. Why did you homogenize the movement speeds? I;m not sure I follow your reasoning mentioned in the pdf.

Mostly? It is my experience that games where movement speeds are a huge factor tend to devolve into frustrating kiting duels.

They are when they are Getter pilots.

This is kind of nice angle because in this kind of game you essentially build 2 characters, your mech and your pilot and they can be very different.

Your pilot can be super smart genius and your mech can compensate for all the str you lack for example.

I forgot to respond to the first question. Whoops, sorry! Non-piloting is important because you are given Genre Points for roleplaying there, and it is meant to be a hybrid slice of life/military drama part of the game by default.

Each of the three factions presented has its own set of things they can do out of the battlefield, but there is a d100 table for ideas just in case.

Truly one of the biggest tragedies of Gundam Wing was how under-utilized Treize was.

Also, I felt like Earth getting taken over like 4 times by different governments over the course of a year would be kinda a cause for concern, but it seems like throughout the series everyone has this "who gives a shit?" attitude. Maybe it's supposed to make war and power-struggles seem pointless, but it makes it seems more like the narrative lacks energy and focus. This is especially apparent as the antagonist shifts like five times throughout the show.

I loved it as a kid, but man, comparing it to Victory Gundam or even Gundam 00, it really didn't age well.

The rules for both humans and mecha are fairly similar so it might work even better than the standard, from a certain vantage point.

    >>17419010

That possibility always exists, but it is easy enough to challenge them that they will want to use them up unless they feel like losing a lot. I really don't think that having more than a few of them should be common (ideally you want them to spend 1 or 2 per encounter) but every game is different.

...But then again, some people are really stubborn.

You can bait them with a fake-out endgame boss they can go all out on, which only opens up a new arc instead of ending the game. It is kind of a dick move, but might also help them realize they don't need to stock points like crazy to win afterwards.

Or just go with the flow and throw an insane end boss that will make said stocking worthwhile, like a souped up Gravagne.

    >>17419112

A transformer would require one sheet for each form, but it is doable. Same for Mecha that use Frames a la Nadesico or Seed.

As for non-piloted Mecha... you can have Submecha helpers to combine or command around, but you are supposed to be a human guy riding the robot proper. While nothing in the rules says you CAN be your own Mecha, nothing says you can't either, and I can see it working without too many rules issues.

(If you have a HENSHIN! form it is infinitely easier to deal with, though, and supported well enough)

Those are Remote Weapons, you deploy them individually and use your own Actions to control them around. They are kind of gimmicky... unless you have the Mental Control Upgrade, then they are dodgy as all hell and have a turn of their own to use.

Just thought I'd try making one.
    Name: Grossefass
    Archetype: SDF
    Design: Experimental G-Furnace
    Chassis: Destroyer
    Upgrades:
    · Resupply (Torso)
    · Maglev (Legs)
    · Support Fire (Head)
    · Supercharged (Core)

    Weapons:
    · Beam Sabre
    · Beam Cannon
    · Giga Blaster
    · Ground Zero
The Grossefass was designed to provide Gear squadrons with mobile continuous fire support. To feed its insane energy demands, a prototype Twin-Drive was developed. Though cycling between engines helps alleviate some of the strain, there still exists the chance for catastrophic systems failure, and the extra moving parts leads the Grossefass to be greeted by more than a fair share of exasperation from the maintenance crew.

So, I don't know how receptive OP is to this idea, but I set up a lulu account, and have the book published as a black-and-white hardcover manual, if anyone actually wants a physical copy of it, but doesn't want to print it themselves.

    http://www.lulu.com/product/hardcover/giant-guardian-generation-guide/18799393

The price is $18.10, giving me absolutely no revenue. Copyright was given to TK-31, as described in the book.

Since it's a color pdf, and a black and white book, I have no idea if it will actually come out well. Again, this is for people (like myself) who are OCD enough to want a physical copy to peruse.

If OP doesn't want this to go down, let me know and I'll remove it.

    Fair warning to people.
The games this is based on sort of assume schizophrenic settings. Because it takes a lot of work and a fair amount of suspension of disbelief to make several mecha animu series fit together in the same world.

Or you could make something completely original and not worry about thematically different series stepping on each others toes.

If people want to have a Gundamns, and Gettahs, they will also have to realize some normalization will possibly occur, or else John will have Gunbuster, which can destroy all life, and Bob will have a power armor... which possibly can't take one tank.

Which might be another point in "do your own thing" camp, as it's easier to make everyone have broadly the same level of power.

Not to dictate your own system to you, but it just seems to me that mechanically speaking, some machines could potentially have much higher stats is all. They wouldn't if you wanted to move everything towards a balanced, center point though, with a bias in one direction or the other. (Just going from SRW conventions. Some Supers should "really" regard mobile suits and anything smaller as fleas, and etc, or whatever balance would exist between this or that series, going from it's stated values)

So do you more adhere to bosses that are artificially inflated endurance wise like the games do because it's too much trouble to program them to use abilities, or are they about as tough, but instead fight fire with fire with abilities of their own, and perhaps, superior skills, requiring Team Work, and maybe mo bettah abilities by the players.

I am very OCD, and the first model always irked me because very few bosses should have that level of endurance compared to the size they have. (Some, maybe, but very few enemies are supposed to have such overwhelmingly superior technology. It's weird when you are supposed to be in the same ball park with your heroes mechs, but the thing has 20 times as much endurance... as the toughest thing you have, battleships the size of a city included.)

    >>17423657

Big bads fight fire with fire, they have a few abilities that players don't but are largely the same.

To give an example, your rival is not going to deploy in a similar machine with triple the HP, it is going to have squadmates that help him the same way that yours are supportive, and they have PC-powers.

I very much doubt this thing is perfect and am not adverse to changing it based on feedback, so don't hesitate to comment.

Note that Long and Extreme range weapons cannot be used after moving, and that Medium range ones are at a disadvantage if you move and shoot, so being continuously on the run is not a good idea offensively.

If you are worried about here's melee weapons proper, there's rocket and extending punches for the non-short range coverage, and even indirect weapons as fangs/slash rippers.
