Why no official Transformers RPG, /tg/? It's one of the biggest franchises out there?
    >> Anonymous 12/29/11(Thu)19:33 No.17369882
...considering Hasbro owns WotC and Transformers? Good question.

I think it's because the era of making RPG spinoffs for absolutely everything is long gone, since no one bought them.

But...but...Dragon Age RPG, The Laundry RPG, Doctor Who RPG, et al...

Transformers has so much going for it: toys, tv shows (the very successful Transformers Prime), video games, comics, lego bricks, novels, pyjamas, the list goes on. Everything except RPGs.

It probably is, but a tiny one compared to what MTG is making, let alone Transformers, MLP et al.

the RPG market in general has shrunk a bit atm, mostly because of stagnation and over-focus on grognards. At a wild guess anyway.

I'd like to, though I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise.

I suppose a system like Engine Heart might work? I wouldn't want to use rules-heavy games like Battletech for a fun toy genre like TF.

The Transformers wiki is a good place to start, generally. Lots of terminology you can borrow, and I always liked the idea of giving Transformer size classes names themed after the toy classes.

Hard to say what system would work. I suppose D&D 4e would be good as any, heavily modified.

The size classes are based on marketing jargon and dollar amounts, not a great baseline for naming things. Not only do they vary by annual product line but they are semantically confused.

And who'd want to play a Basic class TG anyway?

I mean, the universe pretty much has "classes" already: Leader class, Scout class, Voyager class, Scientist class, Warrior class... I mean, it shouldn't be too difficult to pen them up as "races" that determine each Transformer's powers, abilities, and model types. Hell, You could even get bonuses for being Autobot, Decepticon, or unaligned.

There's a Transformers RPG all .pdf'd up and everything that popped up here a while back. It's more on the silly G1 side of things than the serious Beastwars end. It's played with a GM and two separate parties that play at the same time. Sort of like an RPG/board game. The GM comes up with a situation and a goal for each side, with the players on each side fighting to complete their side's goal. Like an energon deposit being stockpiled by the Decepticons with them defending it and the Autobots trying to disable it. Apparently from a report posted by some one who played the game with it's creator they encourage things like themes, catchfrazes and instead of killing players having them shake their fists and run away into the distance like proper cartoon villains.

I'll see if I can't find it on me hard drive and re-upload it. If not you could probably spend 5 minutes to find it on /rs/.

    >>17371050

    Why limit ourselves?

"Basic" Transformers games would be back on Cybertron, before humans were discovered. Basically like War Within, but with dice and the PCs working for either one of the factions - or both, if they're going against Unicron.

"Classic" Transformers games would be on Earth, shortly after the Ark was found and the Transformers resurrected.

"Future" Transformers would involve everything afterwards, since that timeline is so screwed up anyways.

Honestly, we don't really need the setting, just a cohesive rules system. The setting is already laid out for us.

I'm interested how they do combat, since its a d20 system and the only thing I can think it might be like would be modern d20's combat (which my players and I actually enjoy, although for us it's more like using d20 modern equipment and rules with 3.5 characters).

I think that a 4e conversion could be cool as well; it supports all kinds of roles and setup, as well as unique powers and such.

    Roll 1d2, 1=female, 2=male

    >Body Colors
Roll 1d10 twice. 1st roll is dominant color, 2nd is accent color.
    -1 Red
    -2 Purple
    -3 Blue
    -4 Green
    -5 Yellow
    -6 Orange

    -9 Gray
    -10 Teal

    >HP
Multiply your endurance by 2. This your HP.

    >Ranged Attacks
Roll a Skill check. If you pass, your target must pass a Speed check. If he fails you deal 1d10 + 1/2 Firepower damage. If you passed your Skill check by 30 points below the minimum or more, instead deal 1d10+ Firepower damage.

    >Melee Attacks
Roll a Skill check. If you pass, your target must pass a Speed check. If he fails you deal 1d10 + Strength damage. If you passed your Skill check by 30 points below the minimum or more, instead deal 1d10+ 2x Strength.

Nothing after Beast Machines is really related to each other. It's all separate continuities (it's actually all alternate universes in-fiction, as some characters are singular entities across the multiverse, and exist in all universes at once).

G1 comic was it's own continuity and used chunks of the cartoon. G2 comic followed that.

G1 cartoon ran through to BW (300 years after G1) and Beast Machines, to be followed by the (cancelled) Transtech. If you want to include them, the Japanese anime Headmasters, Masterforce and Victory and a bunch of text-only stories like Operation Combination and Battlestars and ZONE fit here as well after G1 season 3, ignoring The Rebirth.

Beast Wars 2nd and Neo (Japanese anime) loosely fit BW timeline, and were like 300 years after BW (they tie into G1 cartoon however)

Armada was reinvention, and Energon was a direct sequel. Cybertron was a separate series in Japan, but was a sequel to Armada/Energon in America. Collectively called the Unicron Trilogy.

    Animated is it's own continuity.

Same for Prime (though I think it's supposed to be in the same universe as the WfC game).

All of the different G1 comic iterations are their own reinventions.of the basic G1 continuity.

The Dreamwave comic series' that had War Within, Micromasters, some one-offs like Hearts of Steel (1800s Transformers as steam engines and such) and an ongoing G1 before they went bankrupt.

IDW is the same; it's its own reboot of continuity in a much different method than G1 (Galvatron and Megatron being completely different characters, for example).

And this isn't even getting into any of the weird Japanese continuities like Binaltech, Alternity, or KISS Players.

The distinction between the organic and technological becomes lost on Cybertron as this two dimensions become fused in incomprehensible ways, The Dimension Wars begin.

So, The Ark and The Nemesis crash on Earth.
Beacuse of this, everything goes to hell on Cybertron. Almost all Decepticons (and their splinter factions) respected Megatron's power but now everyone wants to rule the world. The same thing happens in the Autobot ranks; Optimus was tough by Autobot standards but he still kept POWs and refused to attack certain predominantly civilian areas.
Contenders for Autobot command decided that a "kill'em all, let Primus sort 'em out" approach was the best. The Neo-Cybertronian Empire exapanded slowly and steadily, unhindered by any civil wars. Many technologies, most notably TransWarp tech, started to develop in the Neo-Cyb Empire at this time.
    Notable figures of this period include;
    >Shockwave, the most successful Decepticon Warlord of the area
    >Ultra Magnus, an Autobot Commander who tried to keep Optimus' ideals alive in the ranks
    >Scorponok, Decepticon warlord and Overlord of Nebulos

Maybe in fan fiction, but not in Hasbro's canon. What there is of it. I mean, I have the Complete Guide to Transformers but it's all over hte place. TF canon is pretty messed up and a lot of it is inferred. G1 established a lot ofthe archetypes and baseline that later iterations keep referrring to, but those later additions put a twist on everything every time and it's hard to make sense of it.

    >Golden Age
This period probably covers a few million years between the end of The First War and the start of The Second. This is Cybertron at its most prosperous; Autobots do science, Decepticons provide muscle and defense. But there are still hardcore dudes from the war who want to keep fighting. Also, Bots and Cons feel a lot of distrust; Both sides think that the others could turn on them. Also during this era, splinter factions start showing up.
The Protectabots are a grassroots Autobot vigilante movement that springs up in areas with lots war hold-outs.
The Constructicons are former Decepticon soldiers who devote their lives to building in atonement for the destruction they caused.
The Autobot-derived Maximals espouse unity and the supremacy of Cybertronians over lesser (i.e. organic) lifeforms.

There are quite few timelines worth looking into.
    >Galvatron timeline
This takes place in an alternate renewal era. This is where Rodimus gets strung up between the Twin Towers and Galvy rules Earth. This timeline could be the result of someone other than Megatron becoming Galvatron.
    >Alternity
Alternity probably takes place after a TransTech era, seeing as how they became pure energy beings at some point.
    >Armada/Energon and Cybertron
These three would just substitute/alter The Fall. Also there is an implication that there is a Beast Wars in this continuity.
    >Original Beast Wars
This is a confusing timeline, but it follows the old pack-in comics and tech specs. BW is sometime in the near future, Megatron is G1 Megs and Primal is G1 Prime. Also, this apparently a world war between the 2 forces.

That reminds me of a kinda cool story I wrote back in my fanfic days (I was a teenager is my defence, I'm appropriately ashamed now) about an alternate Transformers timeline that had an all-out war between a fascist empire of technologically advanced humans and uneasily united Cybertronians. I kinda burnt out on it pretty quick, but it was really fun to write and muse on.

Some of my ideas included both factions now being led by Starscream and Ultra Magnus, after Optimus was captured and Megatron killed (it took a nuke or two to finish him off). I think I was onto something.

    >Humans get sick of TFs having wars on Earth, tell 'em to gtfo
    >Humans build giant robots to defend themselves
    >Cons (and rogue Bots) attack Earth

    >>17373149
    >TransTech
My version of TransTech is a little weird; Basically, during BW a TF could survive if you took out it's biological parts, kinda like how a Terminator doesn't need the skin+miniheart to function. By BM, you can't separate the organic parts from the TF; it's like cutting the organs out of an animal. By the time of TransTech, you can't even tell that Cybertron is TechnoOrganic; you can tell where the machine ends and the beast begins. They have all the benefits of technologicals and organics with almost none of the flaws.
The Dimension Wars are pure fanon. I'm thinking that several timelines become aware of each other and start a war (this might loop back into the Alternity angle too).

Also (I just thought of this) TOs/TransTechs aren't entirely welcome on worlds beside Cybertron. They differ from baseline TFs so much that they could be considered a separate species. Another thing that causes concern is TransTechs can reproduce sexually so they don't need factories to build chasses (sp?) for newborn sparks. TransTech are starting to slowly filter out onto other Cybertronian colonies.

That sounds about right. Makes you wonder what kind of war machines humans would come up with, especially reverse-engineered from Transformers. It does remind me of this crazy mixed-up mech setting idea I had, where it's implied earth Battlemechs were first built on the skeletons of the Transformer-equivalents. Yeah, I have a lot of weird ideas.

Transtech and so on seems to imply that the Transformers take a lot of biotechnology and such philosophy from Earth, and it gets totally out of control.

The Fall is the result of the hubris and pride created by The Golden Age.
It starts with politcians. More and more of the elite are concerned with power, money, and influence. They form secret rackets, illegal trading/smuggling groups, goon squads, etc.
When things go south and civvies get burned, they jump out and say "The other guys did it!"
Tensions between Bots and Cons skyrocket.

    >Transtech and so on seems to imply that the Transformers take a lot of biotechnology and such philosophy from Earth, and it gets totally out of control.
This is a very valid point of view. I could imagine a group of fanantical TransTechs would try to force the "Ascension" on worlds that didn't want or need it.

Around this time the term "Cybertronian" started to be used with less frequency.
Sectors with mixed populations started to experience gang wars.
And then he appeared; Megatron, the Scourge of Kaon.
A former miner who got over his head in debt, Megatron was "contracted" by the local Senator into the gladiatorial pits.
But from this hellhole he forged an army. The slaves, the poor, the discontent, the lowly...All were his soldiers. Even most of Kaon's sentries, the elite Seekers, sided with him.
In a single night, Kaon fell.

Megatron served as an example; with enough will one could bring a city to its knees.
Multiforce-14's revolution was another blow that shook the fragile balance.
M-14 was created as prototype super-soldier during the First War. He was held in a military installation in Sybar for research after he was found toward the beginning in the era.
No one is sure how escaped from a high-security military installation.
    But he did.
The base at Sybar was manned by Bots. The City and its complement of Sentries were Decepticons. M-14's new "Destrons" obliterated all Autobot military presence in Sybar and declared independence from all hierarchies except their own.

There aren't really any GEEWUNNER types on /toy/, I think the most persistent of them left right after RotF happened, but that board is rather small, and there are a handful of very dedicated posters who exist to be annoying.

It's a slow board, too, so I'd expect five posts of "not /toy/ related hurr," maybe one or two interested souls, and then someone somehow dragging either Jin Saotome or Walky into the thread. Although Jin hasn't done anything Transformersy in a while, so maybe that guy won't notice.

I haven't sat in any /co/ Transformers threads, but since they're generals, I assume that, yes, that's probably a bad idea.

    My recomendations.

Go with 5 base "races" and use the 4 classes from WFC.

Scientist (Healer/Special powers based, lowest health)
Scout (Speedy, Glass Cannon, low health, stealth)
Leader (Slow, Buffer and Supporter, decent health)
Soldier (Damage powers, Slow, Highest health)

    The 5 races would be:

Constructicon - The builders, the makers, the preservers and the shakers. These are the guys who you get to make a city, keep it running, and bring it down when it needs to be removed. Favoured Class: Leader.

Omnicons - Your sports vehicles, your civilians, your massed hordes. These form the majority of the cybertronian population. Favoured Class: Any.

Combaticons - The former military elite, they're big, tough, agressive, and not going to let you forget it. Favoured Class: Soldier.

Aerialbots - These guys dwelt on orbitals, the floating cities above cybertron's surface. They viewed themselves as above the petty squables of the grounders, but recent times have thrust their lot in with the rest of Cybertron. Their favoured class is Scientist.

Minicons - Micromasters, Minibots, Tinicons. Whatever their name, these guys are the smallest cybertronians around. Always ignored, always underfoot. They're naturals at spying and scouting. Favoured Class: Scout.

You'd just have to do a warhammer conversion based on size class of the toy. Stats are all there, but something like 2000pt army, 300pts for a Supreme, 200 for a Leader, 100 for a Voyager, 50 for a deluxe, 20 for a Basic, and 10 for a Legend.

Each size class uses different damage die, each character has a list of 4E style abilities, some only useable as the larger size class toy, smaller toys have fewer abilities, and then a rule like only 1 version of a character per army.

Make stuff like Transforming and combining movement options, abilities for alt modes, and let gestalts (including *masters) use all the abilities of their members, and you just about cover everything.

So for a Double Targetmaster like Needlenose, he costs 50pts for a deluxe, gets 4 abilites, one of which is transforming, a couple attacks, and an esacpe ability in his jet mode. Then his two target master partners cost 10pts each, each have 2 abilities, transforming and an attack that does 1d6 or w/e, and then when in gun mode they have a thing that says when used as a weapon, add 1d6 to users attacks.

Have a description of Kaon, hopefully making it more of a location than just a name:

Kaon is the largest city on Cybertron, a metropolis three times the size of Iacon, it has always been the Industrial capitol of the world.
Split into two parts, the upper citadel of Kolkular, rising above the rest of the city state like a colossal metallic tree. Inside this inner city the administrative facilities of Kaon are housed, including Trypticon Prison, the Kaon Militia HQ, and the Grand Forum (where great Cybertronian leaders are immortilized in statue form).
Because of the great height of Kolkular compared to the rest of Kaon, the only way to reach the citadel is via the great bridges that stretch for miles, or by flight. It this for this reason that many who visit Kolkular do not realise that it is only part of the great city of Kaon.

Beneath Kolkular lies the main part of Kaon. At the dawn of history, it was much like other cybertronian city states, but over the vorns, the area was heavily mined and excavated for the underlying metals and rare alloys.
As a result, the city of Kaon has become little more than a colossal pit, filled with hastily erected scrap metal shelters, where the miners, workers, and other drones seek shelter from the periodic acid storms.
The mining work continues, stretching further and deeper each cycle, so much so that it is rumoured that the lowest set of tunnels have reached layers of construction from a time before cybertronian civilization, and that strange creatures well in these underworld realms.
Kaon proper is dark, the only illumination coming from energon-tools, the optics of the workers, and the great smelting pools which dominate the landscape around the Kolkular.
These pools of molten metal are where the metal provender of Kaon is taken, smelted, reduced to its raw components, and sent up into Kolkular for processing. Over the ages, they have also been used for disposing of the bodies of undesirables.

    I like it.

    Also, for those who don't like the lolGenders of TFs, /toy/ came up with an interesting idea;

    >Sexual and gender traits were added by the quintessons in an attempt to market their robots towards organics.
    >The best part is, the species that purchase based on sexual imagery are fully aware of the fact that it's a marketing gimmick and they STILL fall for it!

    It's interesting at least.
    >> Anonymous 12/30/11(Fri)18:15 No.17379811
    >>17379713
Upon the rise of Megatron, Kaon was one of the first ten cities to fall to the Decepticons (the name Decepticon coming from the Iaconian "Decus Septem", or "those of the ten enclosures").
He disposed of the rulers of Kolkular, literally throwing them off the edge and into the smelting pools below. Then claimed the Prison of Trypticon as his fortress, relying on the fortification to keep enemies out, as well as they kept inmates inside.
The mining has stopped for the first time, the drones have become soldiers, albiet disposable ones, and Kaon has become a city of Slaughter, with every area turned into a battleground for training. The smelting pools have become a way to dispose of prisoners, or emptied and turned into vast gladitorial arenas.
The bridges linking Kolkular with the outside were destroyed, meaning the only way to approach the citadel is by flight, and with Vos falling to the Decepticon movement, most of the orbital craft on Cybertron now belongs to Megatron.

I've been working on a TFRPG for a while, I never figured there was any interest in the sort of thing and I was just scribbling it out of futility. If there's interest I can work a lot harder on it, use my group as the playtest guinea pigs. It's a lot of random factors to start, but players later on get to build their character on their frame.

Here were the basic concepts of my design:
    - Characters start with a Protoform, a base character. All Protoforms have the same stats, which are based on the classic stat system from TF packaging.
    - Protoform is altered by randomly determining your Origin Province (Iacon, Kaon, etc.). Each Province has base alterations as well as tables to determine starting class, which alters further.
    - Characters roll on history charts to add minute adjustments, gain skills, traits.
    - Players, depending on their build, receive a number of "construction points" that they use to flesh out their frame. This is how a character comes up with their alt mode. If they want to be a motorcycle they would buy two agile wheels, for example. I went with this to allow for creative builds and the option for Triple Changers (More than three modes is hard to pull off, so no Sixshot). Placement of the alt mode "kibble" to body locations mean that when those locations are injured there's a chance the component is broken in alt mode. Where things can be placed is governed by the size of the location (think grid-based inventories in game, you gotta tetris the parts).

    - Weapons are very broad, in categories (Cannons, Rays, Melee, Missiles, etc.). Players take the base weapon, then modify it using "Power Chip Rectifiers" found/purchased in game. This is to allow players to distinguish their weapons, giving options, without having to create a massive table of the various items in TF Lore. A player could recreate Starscream's Null Ray or create something of their own. Power Chips will sometimes have restrictions, but will always modify the weapon into something new and chips can be combined depending on the base weapon.
    - Character progression will not be standard leveling, instead if characters wish to advance they must upgrade components with higher quality ones.
    - Though I'm still working out the logistics, I'm striving to make transformation critically important. More than just using your alt mode as a "inter-scene travel" device. Special abilities that combine with alt mode use, transformation bonuses, etc. Also weapons are sometimes restricted to one mode over the other (because it's cheaper to have a weapon only in Alt Mode rather than both Alt and Bot mode)
    - Loyalty system, depending on factors within the mission, the loyalty of a character is constantly challenged. Your Loyalty rating will have an effect on how some Power Chips work, how your transformation abilities behave, and most importantly if you "fall" you lose your character (though he may appear later as the enemy!)

I mean, that's just what I've done on my own. It's not really compiled ina single document but if /tg/ wants I can work something out. But if you guys would rather do this the /tg/ team-homebrew way then I understand.

It was certainly designed for campaign style play, and given the inclusion of transformation and alt modes it made the use of a battle mat and crunchy combat rules a must. The base rules are fairly simple, but yes the "construction" rules for both bot and weapon are very hefty.

Like I said, I'm just spouting what I had done simply because this is the first time I've ever seen interest in a TF style game.

Now, a companion to Kaon: Iacon.

Located near the northern polar cap of Cybertron, Iacon is an ancient city, mostly contained within a shining crystalline Dome, where the ancient buildings of a long forgotten golden age are still used by the modern residents.
Inside the dome the buildings consist of tall, spindly spires, the tallest almost scraping the roof of the Great Dome. The towers are used by the Elite of Cybertron as their halls of government, with the Cybertronian Senate meeting within the great Tower of Pion, at the center of the dome.
Nearby, the Decagon stands, somewhat squat compared to the other structures in the dome. Inside this ten sided tower, the Cybertron Elite Guard has their headquarters and training facilities. The Guard has been the one intercity Military since the Second Golden Age began, protecting all the city states and enforcing rule, but technically being part of none of them.
Never the less, due to being headquartered in Iacon, many view them as Iacon's fist, maintaining the city state's command over the others.

Outside the Dome, New Iacon keeps its golden age feel, with large plazas, imposing forums, and towering Academies. The citizens go about their lives in luxury, as the decorative pools flow with energon-infused oils, and the Imperial Ampitheatre is constantly full of Iaconians watching everpresent Sporting events.
    >> Anonymous 12/30/11(Fri)19:55 No.17380720
    >>17380706

Beneath the surface though, some cybertronians enjoy Iacon's less intellectual delights. From the Oilhouses, which are full of Iacon's labourers who scorn the luxuries of the above ground plazas, to the Oilsport arenas where mech confronts mech in battles to the death, to entertain the most bloodhungry bots.

Outside the city are the vast Kalicon Plains, vast expanses of metal, broken only by roads, a network of chemical rivers, and the Energon Farms where crystalline energon is grown via nucleation, and then transported to either Iacon, or its sister city of Kalis, where the the great fusion reactors of the city convert energon into power for the great cities of Cybertron.

Kalis has always had a strong relationship to Iacon, for it grew up around Iacon's necropolis, where the ancient dead of Iacon were intered, deep beneath the surface of the city, in a network of tombs. Due to this, Kalis has been sometimes disparagingly called the City of the Dead.

    >Continuing The Fall
Another notable rebellion occured im Mentax province on Minoris (Cybertron's smallest moon). Mentax was a trade hub that saw vast traffic of alien organics and even hosted some small organic settlements. The Guardian Prime of Mentax Sector, Sentinel Prime was a firm adherent of the Maximal ideology. Inspired by Megatron's example, Sentinel Prime and his forces unleashed a bloody purge on the native organic population and set up a network of privateers to attack alien vessels. His rebellion continued into the early part of The Renewal.

Alarmed by the sudden rise in violence and threat of upheaval, Zeta Prime, Guardian Prime of Iacon and Supreme Commander of The United Cybertron Military, engaged in series of battles to pacify insurgent elements. Zeta Prime finally engaged Megatron in the Battle of J'Wan.
It is sometimes said by those who witnessed their duel that it was as though two gods fought each other; No one who knew the diplomatic, stately Zeta Prime would have imagined that he had the resolve or the skill to defend himself from Megatron.

The duel ended with a single shot.
Both Megatron and the Prime were battered, barely able to stand. Their weapons had been either destroyed or discarded due to lack of ammunition. Megatron fell backwards after a vicious blow from Zeta. His scrabbling hand found a pistol; he had no way of knowing if even had a charge left.
Zeta moved in for the kill.
Megatron aimed and fired a single shot.
It wasn't an immediate killshot; but at such a point-blank range, it was lethal.
    They both knew this.
A squad of Seekers strafed by, forcing Zeta to dive for cover as Megatron fled.
A young soldier rushed to his wounded leader's side, expertly sniping a few hovering Seekers.
Zeta could barely stand; the youth bore much of the brunt of the Prime's weight.
    The following is the young soldier's account of Zeta Prime's last words;
    >"What...what is your name..."
    >"Orion Pax, sir."
    > "Pax? A...good lineage..."
    >"Sir, you mustn't strain yo-"
    >"The dying...have a right to do...whatever we damn well please..."

The Autobots had lost their greatest, and perhaps only hero. They were shocked. They were afraid. They needed a symbol.
The Senate was aware of all of this when the elected the next Guardian Prime of Iacon, the next Autobot Supreme Commander.
Who better than the young librarian-turned soldier who went to war out of selfless duty?
Who better than he who charged behind enemy lines to rescue his fallen leader?
Who better than he whom Zeta Prime chose as his final confidant?
    The Senate was unanimous.
Orion Pax ascended to rank of Guardian Prime of Iacon and took the name "Optimus Prime"

The Senate had wanted Optimus to be a symbol.
They later found out that he was also a leader, a thinker, and a tactician.
His first day as Autobot Supreme Commander saw the issuing of twenty-five decrees.
Among them were the conscription of City-State Sentry teams into the main army, the temporary seizure of private factories to produce war materiel, and an increase in energon tithes.
Megatron and Optimus danced a waltz across Cybertron; one would gain a new territory only to cede another.
This bitter struggle continued for years.
Once it was clear that the War wasn't ending anytime soon, The Exodus began.
Millions built ships and blind-jumped into the far reaches of space. One group of Maximal refugees later formed the Neo-Cybertronian Empire.
Cybertron, once a teeming planet of 2 billion mechanoids, now hosted little over a million inhabitants.
Cybertron's moons, Minoris and Majoris, still remained populated but were in many wars worse than Cybertron itself. Total war between dozens of empires waged on the moons.
At long last, Optimus Prime decided that Cybertron was beyond saving.
He secretly commisioned a fleet of Ark-class spacecraft and ordered the evacuation of Cybertron.
Optimus Prime's own ship, the "Ark-1" was intercepted by Megatron's flagship, "The Nemesis."
After a ship-to-ship battle and a failed Decepticon boarding raid, both ships crashed onto a primitive planet. The inhabitants of both vessels entered into stasis, waiting to awaken...

    Name: Crusader Alpha
    Altmode: Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird
Foregoing modern ranged weaponry as "dishonourable," this Autobot takes the fight to the Decepticons using his incredible speed and strength.
Alpha is often looked down upon by his leaders for his tendency to ruin well-laid plans by charging into battle headlong and his eagerness to engage in combat when other, more peaceful options are available. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, he has made quite an impression on the younger Autobot recruits.
While sometimes a maverick, and always a glory-seeker, Alpha will always be there when his friends are in trouble.

    Okay, more locations:

Polyhex is the location of one of the oldest settlments on Cybertron, with archeometrical data showing that there have been inhabitants there since before the Golden Age.
The city state surrounds Darkmount, a natural plasma vent in the surface, where plasma rises from the core of cybertron, providing warmth and light to the early settlers.
During the modern era, the city of Polyhex has become a haven for artists and sculptors, seeking inspiration from the plasma-fires of the planet's core.

One of the first cities to fall during the rise of the Decepticons, Polyhex was placed under the the command of Straxus. This new Governor used the Plasma vent to stoke the fires of a Smelting Pool, and began a brutal series of crackdowns, designed to remove any trace of rebellion.
Those who survived this savage regime still ended up severely damaged and out of fuel, and with Polyhex itself now home to the Decepticon military, the civilians and neutrals from before the war, ended up not being able to leave the city state proper, and made themselves a shanty down on the borders. This place, known as the Dead End, formed a natural barrier for the state, as the neutrals cluster about anyone who tries to sneak in there, begging for fuel and parts. Ruining any attempts at stealth.

I actually run a very successful Transformers RPG, using NWOD system (because it is easy to use, above anything else)

When it comes to the details of Cybertron itself, this is how I handled it.

Cybertron has many cities, but two major complexes dominate it's surface. The Polar cities of Kaon and Iacon are so immense that every smaller city that surrounds them can be more closely viewed as a "subarb" of these gigantic Cities.

Iacon is the major trade and corporate hub of the planet, holding the planets largest space port. This port is also known as Iacon Tower or Iacon Central, and has been the center of Autobot Operations on the planet for as long as anyone can remember. While it lacks the raw production capacity of Kaon, it makes up for it in it's cosmopolitan nature and powerful scientific centers that dot the city. Unlike Kaon, most of the city exists on the surface of Cybertron, and very little penetrates down into the depths of the planet.

Kaon is the manufacturing center of the planet, where the original plasma furnaces that created the transformers rest. Kaon is far less concentrated then Iacon, spread out over the surface and even penetrating deep into the surface of the planet so the largest machines of infrastructure (and later war) could be built. The center of the city (more commonly known as the Citidel by Decepticons) is the largest single structure on Cybertron, a massive block of unknown metal that sinks deep into the planet. The surface of the citidel houses a temple to all of the fallen Decepticon leaders.
    >> Angry Tau 01/01/12(Sun)15:09 No.17394423
    >>17394420
(fuck you, field too long page!)
In both cities lies a great shaft that can take a transformer to the very center of the planet, where Vector Sigma rests. This shaft has either been forgotten (Kaon), or is fiercely protected (Iacon) as it is the only known way to bring sentience to new robots.

The Sea of Rust is the other dominating feature of the planet. An immense crater, who's birthing explosion was so great, the surface of cybertron warped and bent outward around it, shrapnel still floating in space over it. Legends speak of a glowing crystal city called Dion, a center of peace and learning and the symbol of everlasting peace for cybertron after one of it's many wars. Rumor has it that Megatron destroyed it early in his campaign to remove a uniting symbol from the planet, and make his rise to power easier.

And BTW: kudos on including the Quintessons; I thought they were cool, better than that Unicron = Satan garbage that was later invented.

The "Autonomous Robots" actually comes from Botcon's Shattered Glass comic. I made up the "Deceptive Constructs".

I was prolly gonna two versions of the Transformer creation story for gms to choose from.

    >Scientific
Cybertron was an organic planet colonized and turned into a factory by Quints. They created the Transformers. The "Spark" isn't an observable physical phenomenon (just like a soul is invisible). Unicron is a giant transformer built by alien space monkey.

    >Semi-mystical
Primus and Unicron exist but are much lower in terms of power level. The were/are both energy beings that got trapped in planets. Unicron went into a technologically advanced planet which he turned into his body. Primus went into an organic planet and asexually reproduced, creating the Sparks of Transformers. The Quints come and are all

I'd rather not do classes tbh. They don't seem to fit Transformers.

Also re; semi-mystical Unicron, he wouldn't be the modern lolnighomnipotent one common in modern fiction. I was thinking Marvel G1 Unicron, whose essence could only be destroyed by the Matrix but whose physical form could get blown to shit by planetkiller weapons.

Personally, I'd prefer the name decepticon to have a not quite "We are the evil guys" meaning.
This is why I've proposed it coming from "Decus Septem" of the Ten Enclosures. Meaning the original 10 cities to fall to the Decepticon movement.

The Autobots would be the League of Autonomous Cybertronians. Being composed of city states who have allied together for protection against the cons. Much like the greeks made the Delian League for protection against Persia.

    I was actually thinking that the origins of the names are partially what contributed to the Autobot/Decepticon tension. To set the stage;
    >Quints have two Transformer lines, Civilian Hardware and Military Hardware
    >Both lines want to rebel
    >Military Hardware plays it smart; Their coups are coordinated and well-planned
    >Quints start refering to rogue Military Hardware as Deceptive Constructs
    >Inspired by their brothers, a group of Civilian Hardware calling themselves Autonomous Robots take hostages and send out nationalist speeches.
    >Autonomous Robots get slaughtered by Quint soldiers because they were essentially butlers
    >DCs due almost al of the work to drive off/out Quints and lose a lot of soldiers
    >ABs either cower, do nothing, or sabotage Quints instead of outright fighting them.
    >After the Quints leave, the UA are all "cool Deceptibros, now the UA will be the leaders of Cybertron since we're obviously smarter and you're just cannon fodder"
That's essentially the run-up to the First Civil War. The Decepticons wear their name with pride because it represents the failure of Quintesson tyranny over them; They become more than slaves, more than tools.
Bots and Cons do a lot of historical whitewashing, so to Cons,
    >Bots=Misguided Idealists/cowards
    >Cons=Determined freedom fighters who died to free the planet

    While Bots say
    >Bots=Honourable warriors who strive for higher ideals
    >Cons=Backstabbing brutes

To be honest, I think deciding on a single origin for transformers in an RPG is a mistake, given the wealth of origins the series has (Quintesson creations, Primus Creations, Technogenic evolution, Transorganic replacement).

I'd recomend that before the First Golden Age, cybertron's history is a contradictory set of myths, legends, and ruins. No one is sure, no cocrete records remain, and it gives something for robot Archeologists to do.

Okay, as someone who's taken part in quite a few discussions on Transformers, I figured I'd post some of my ideas here:

    Decepticon Tactics:
When the Decepticons take over a settlement, they probably enforce rationing, seize factories and similar, and let the settlement dry up slightly.
Then they offer increased energon reserves to those who join the Decepticon Imperium either as a warrior, or as a labour-mech, with Warriors getting far more resources than those in the labour-work.
People will do almost anything for 3 recharges a day, so the Decepticon military ends up with a load of green recruits, who get given a helmet and a primitive laser-weapon, and get the Decepti-brand burnt onto their chassis. They're then sent in mass waves against the autobots in warzones.

Most die, but any recruit who shows the cunning to survive, the desperation to kill, and the cruelty to enjoy it, eventually moves up in rank, and ceases to be grist in the mill, getting access to more refined energon, better equipment, and more free time.

When a settlement is firmly turned to Megatron's will, with all inhabitents Decepticon battle-drones or labour-mechs, then the next settlement over gets "discovered" to be plotting an attack on Decepticon land, and the settlement is attacked pre-emptively.
And the cycle begins all over again.

    The Sonic Canyons
Said by some to function as the auditory sensors of Primus. Others describe how they are the scars left by a primordial battle at the start of cybertron's history.
Regardless of their origin, the Sonic Canyons are a network of trenches in Cybertron's surface, cutting deep into the planet. Legend says they are so deep that they reach the core of Cybertron itself, although there is no way to prove this as the blue glow of Cherenkov radiation would fry anyone who tried to plumb their depths.
Adding to the dangers of radioactivity, the canyons are famed and named due to their thundering nature, with the walls echoing from sounds of underground machinery, and of the cybertronians who dwell on the edge of the canyon, in spite of the dangers of radiation, deafness, and scrapfalls caused by the terrible noise.
In part, the villages set up on the edge are there because of the rare compounds found by those who are desperate enough to descend them. These aluminium phyllosilicates are essential to the construction of new transformers, and in times of hardship squads of miners, armed with sonic shielding and plasma-cutters, descend to claim the materials needed.
Bordering some of the canyons on the northern edge lies the desert named the Rust Sea, and at these points, the silicates from the desert fall endlessly into the depths of the canyon. These sandfalls were a popular landmark for travellers before the war broke out.

    Nice, nice work here.

    But we need more Decepticons.

LET NOT THE COWARDLY AUTOBOTS RULE THIS THREAD, FOR THEY ARE WEAK AND KNOW NOT THE TASTE OF BATTLE

    rolled 1, 5, 2, 4, 10, 2, 9, 6, 8, 3, 10 = 60

I guess I could give the Decepticons a go.

Yeah, watching that intro reminded me of Combiners. How would they work in-game?

I'm extremely unsure. I was considering something like averaging the stats of all the components together and adding a ~+2 bonus per component for most stats.

I'm considering doing two quickstart booklets (1 Autobot, 1 Decepticon natch) before I do the full rules. Is that a good idea?

Also, I need suggestions for important NPCs to include with the main rules. I mean like Major/Prominent Characters. Bit-part characters would be detailed in a separate sourcebook(s).

In case anyone was wondering, Multi-Force 14 isn't a real TF, he was a Diaclone toy.

    And this Mosaic is what inspired his inclusion;
