254 KB Dungeons The Dragoning Official Release LawfulNice 12/25/11(Sun)16:40 No.17330530
Merry Christmas, everyone! I've decided to get in on the Christmas spirit and release not one but two books, the revised Dungeons the Dragoning core book (Version 1.5) and the first full public release of Book 2: For a Few Subtitles More. I've bookmarked them using Infix PDF Editor, which saved me an assload of time doing it manually.

Dungeons the Dragoning Core Version 1.5:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?7a818758q47pruw

Dungeons: The Dragoning: 40,000: 7th Edition: Book 2: For a Few Subtitles More Version 1.2:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?jj1dn48xno2rolk

Get 'em while they're hot and let me know what you think. A lot of small changes were made to each. I daresay it's the best release yet!

Hark, it is I, and I heard that somebody wanted a copy of my crappy incomplete SM screen!

Be aware, these were made for 1.4, I haven't read 1.5 yet, so you're on your own for that.

Also, as I originally made these for my own use, there's some spelling errors and minor typos. Although enough people have pestered me about that that I guess I'll try and make a new one sometime later this week.

Thanks. I want to include more information on some of the bits. How does the formatting seem to be? I just kinda said 'eh, fuck it here's a font, let's start typing, and see what goes where'. I kind of took three sheets of paper, turned them sideways, and then scribbled in general ideas of what to go where, and went to typing. That's why there's a lot of dead space in some of the pages, but I didn't want to cram it all in. I mean, I don't really do any real graphic design work, so hell if I know how it looks/works.

Also, no ships, even if you take Holdings, mostly because I'm still skittish from THAT GUY, and the difficulty of balancing ship scale and personal scale. I might be making an F-Zero/Star Fox styled game in a few months that would lean more toward the vehicle/ship scale.

    1. What are the general costs for acquiring new torpedos, the BP cost * 5? the BP cost itself? (can't be that, I assume?)

    >we won't be using the advanced ship-building rules or ship battles as detailed in Book 2

Basically that. There's still plenty of SPAAAAAAAAACE, and I may eventually give the group a ship of their own, but it's intent is to be a setpiece. Things like the orbital bombardment, teleportarium, etc. make me have to either plan out alternatives, or start waving technobabble nonsense around.

Also ship combat, if you're not an officer (i.e. somebody with appropriate skills or classes) or captain of your own ship, can get really, really boring, and I am under the impression that would only get worse in a pbp setting.

The core aspect of Exalted is (now) "all non-solars wish they could be solars and look up to Desus as their spiritual liege" so I would disagree that its particularly Exalted.

The only thing that really screams Exalted to me is that we have both vampires and daemonhosts (which are based off abyssals, which are in turn based off vampires), so we have two sorts of undeadish blood drinkers.

Yes. The idea is that it's every setting ever, if you can figure out how to land it into the framework of the races, classes, or exaltations, depending on what you're going for.

I've had one guy mention trying to play the main character from Soul Reaver by refluffing a Deamonhost a little bit.

Hell, in my RL game, I'd interspliced Cylons, modrons, and necrons together, complete with a V-mask wearing Trazyn knockoff.

As cool as that is, I can only see myself using this as a go-to for converting things into an accessible system. My presence in my group's is pretty heavy handed, to the point where I make and revise their characters; not to optimise, but to make sure they are functional. I introduced them to Pathfinder, and subsequently traditional gaming as more than checkers, not one year ago and have been DMing for them since. They're always coming to me with, "Is there a game for this," or "- a way to play that?"

I wish I knew more fa/tg/uys irl. My mind churns with satire and spinoffs that I would love to derp through with some gents.

    >>17331846

Well, if you want to, you can always pre-make them characters, and then write up very small cities and go with it from there. D:tD is all about what is in your head; if you limit the scope they can percieve at any one time, you'll limit the head explosions.

Even the players who I had a good time with when I ran it once were a little overwhelmed when they see everything at once.

Hell, it'd be very easy to run a TF2 or some sort of MGS like game using paragons or something similar and low-complexity.

Ponies aren't inherently inferior to humans or Tau or anything like that. Ponies are going in as a race, not an Exaltation. The ones you're speaking of would be Pony Paragons, or something. Maybe there should be a "Demigod" exaltation which allows you to be double the normal size (or just Size+2, whichever is more balanced).

That impinges on the fun of both the Mary Sue and people playing exaltations that the Mary Sue copies. How about if instead the Mary Sue is required to earn a stunt bonus with dice equal to the dot cost of the power used? If she fails, it's a flashy and cool action but only has the mechanical potency of a normal similar action, with whatever stunt bonus was earned.

    >>17343201
I don't know about giving them the spells, but giving them the abilites would be good. Maybe they can use Charm by spending a Heart point (without the normal complications that magic would involve, and using Heart instead of Enchantment) or they're treated as being constantly under the effects of the Attraction spell. Or both.

I love the idea of the Mary Sue exaltation having a "flaw" to regain there resource stat and the real problem of being compelled to destroy other Mary Sues. This leaves one problem though what if to players both want to play Mary Sues? I propose that this is allowed and gets around the highlander thing one of two ways. One they are required to "try" and "kill" each other but they are allowed to be laughably and comically ineffectual if some other force (read excuse) makes them work together say a greater enemy or a common ally. Alternately they could be "sisters" or some other such BS that explains why they both make each other seem more "awesome" so killing them would not be the Sueish thing to do.

also magical girls should be a separate exalt and cover the Kamin rider/Beetle Borg/Powerranger aspect two.

    >>17358778
Maybe Mary Sue Highlander-ism could more fluff than crunch? Although there might need to be a mechanical benefit for fighting other Sues. OH, and they should be hard to kill. That's a thing that the Immortals and Mary Sues definitively have in common.

Oh, and I suppose Super Sentai is basically the male equivalent of magical girls.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/11(Wed)15:37 No.17358971
    >>17358778
The weakness aspect is good. Maybe stuff like throwing a shitfit if someone doesn't listen to them.
For the Highlander aspect, I think it would make sense if Mary Sues could gain power by killing each other and could sense each other's presense (Though not exact location).

For transforming characters, I think there should be a masquerade mechanic.
