Intrigued, you walk in her direction, gently pushing some of the patrons out of your way while walking toward the stairs, you cast a quick glance at Athena but you can’t see her face thank to her hood, however it seem the Mantis is dreading talking to you, quite a first.

However you decide to have a brief talk with her so, after ignoring a derisive gesture from the innkeeper, you tap her softly on the shoulder to ask the question troubling you.

Mostly motivated by the need to avoid trouble and not ending this fine evening with a brawl, or something more dramatic, you set foot on the first stair with an audible crack coming from the wood and walk with a solid foot, quickly stopping at a rather large corridor with various lamp illuminating the area, completely absent of any soul, no sign of the elusive girl as you look around, walking in circle a bit, trying to see an open door, anything to betray her presence.

Seem like this inn on the small side, the two corridors probably accommodate about 5 rooms; it isn’t cramped thankfully so you can move with leisure, a quick glance at the roof near one of the lamp tell you of its wooden nature without much else, you doubt Sylphis could even hide up there anyway. Also counting the numbers of doors, most of the people would most likely end up sharing rooms.
Walking a bit, trying some of the door handle, without much luck, you try to identify her location through her link and, thankfully, it seems she calmed down a bit, you decide to go in one of the most obscured area only to knock your knee on the wall.

Not venting your frustration, you voice her name in a neutral tone, absent of your usual dominative authority.

The Spartan room has nothing but a bed and a small desk with a chair, the girl is keeping herself in the corner, given her smaller than average frame she doesn’t take all the place on the bed, thus, you take place near her, looking at the form that stop breathing for a precious second, the link transferring some emotion that you don’t really recognize, but its strength is there and you wait for her to calm herself, which doesn’t take long at all.

You mind your next words, knowing your tone to be one of authority and intimidation; you decide to not look at her form and simply cast your head forward, two elbows on your knees, feeling strangely at peace near this stoic girl.

What happen next is but a matter of brief seconds.

There a crash, sound of impact, blades rocking against each other’s as you are pushed to the side by your Knight, thankfully you manage to recover your footing, straightening yourself while Athena is already exchanging blow with the only other possible person in the area: Sylphis.

The scene itself can only leave you speechless, it would seem that the lizardwoman saved your life, she pushed you from the incoming murderous scythe of the mantis and the two are now locked in a fierce duel far, far above your station as a warrior. In only a few seconds, the road is filled with the incredible tension and sounds of battle as the two girls swing, Athena with only her blade in hands, the previous glow you saw at the camp absent, it seems the quick blows of the Mantis prevent her from taking her shield, putting her immediately on the defensive, however Sylphis is nothing like she was back at the camp, her movement are sluggish and lack spirit, but there a clear gap between the two girls, Sylphis is clearly a much better fighter but this sudden handicap is enough to put them at a rather equal level, but the Lizardwoman is struggling with her lone blade, but she manage a firm kick in the smaller girl stomach, creating a distance for the two of them to catch some breathes.

This exchange lasted a mere 5 seconds.

But when you look at the Mantis, her face is nothing but an expression of anger and frustration, her teeth showing, clenching but her eyes of clear yellow have a rune of glowing purple shining brilliantly and now you understand

Aah, the two of them are warm, your arms around their shoulders, you feel the scales on the face of Athena rubbing your next, her hairs brushing your arms, her scent still being sweet event with all the movement and wounds. Sylphis doesn’t say anything, but she relaxed in your embrace, both her hands grabbing your arms, her head snuggling near your shoulders.

‘’I didn’t die today, so stop feeling so bad, both of you’’

Athena is blushing up to her ears, her link being full of embarrassment, however Sylphis surprise you: you expected her to feel a crushing guilt, instead she is… serene.

‘’I would have followed you’’

Can’t help but frown, the small, stoic girl keep her hands on your arm, apparently reached a revelation.

‘’I am guilty of a horrible crime, Siggy, your death by my hand would have been too much’’
