What are your favourite miniature lines other than those by Privateer and GW?

    Let's hear something interesting, /tg/.

Personally, I'd marry the first person to buy me something from Lead Adventure, but I'm too cheap to pay those 19% German taxes. Overpriced as fuck. DSW has some really nice sculpts too. But I'm really not too familiar with what else is out there.

    Sick of GW GW GW.

I always look through Reaper's line, and love a bunch of their sculpts, but I just never find something that would work for any of my characters.

Lots of nice stuff out there (including some of GW's...)

Werner Klocke over at Freebooter gets it right every now and then (pic), when he doesn't screw up the faces.

Another nice range is Hell Dorado. Sadly my Li Tsu Tsin seems to have been miscast or damaged, so time to see if their customer service is up to task.

Another really good sculptor is Tre Manor. He 's done some work for Reaper, and also sells some of his stuff directly over at http://www.red-box-games.com/

When you're done playing your noncontroversial wargame, you can use the minis for your 4e game random encounters. But to hell with those 3.5 players. Idiots, all of them.

Anyway, the best goblins I've found are probably from GW's LotR. But for personality, the pathfinder ones (reaper) are quite nice! Just picked some up, quite impressed. Image attached.

Indeed it is a nice sculpt and a damn frightening monster. To each his own, I guess; I've always been partial to very classic, generic stuff. Which probably does mean I have poor taste, but oh well.

Looks weird because it's unbalanced, whereas the Reaper one is certainly balanced. The tail might seem dinosaurish at first, but it's necessary to make it look realistic or at least slightly plausible.

yeah, it's horribly beautiful. not "okay-looking". There's a subtle harmony between all those textures, the grotesque yet functional proportions, and the overall liveliness. It's striking and inspiring, even if it's fucking monstrous.

Old Crow, they're a personal favorite of mine and others for their resin vehicles in 25mm(yes, this does also work perfectly well with 28mm), 15mm and 6mm scale.

Very good quality casts, only ever had miniscule air bubbles (pin-head sized) pre-sanded parts to fit together, though it's the kind of resin that instantly glues with super-glue so be careful. Very decent prices (the two vehicles here are about the same size as a rhino and were just under £10 each), nice extras to customize vehicles such as baggage, also able to order turrets and weapons separately (the light tank came with 3 different main weapon barrels and 3 different turret pod weapons by default). Many otherwise likely to break bits like weapon barrels are in nice durable metal not resin to boot.

I would love any miniature company as long as their minis are decent and they can be bought in a physical shop. I like looking the mini over, checking it for faults that might lead to easy breakage or moulding mistakes, and I like to be able to return it right away if that happens. But most of all, I like instant gratification.

Does anybody on /tg/ know of a shop that stocks miniatures that aren't D&D Minis or Games Workshop? Preferably in Toronto.

Am surprised this has not come up yet:

Peter Pig, great producer of rule sets and figures in 15mm for a lot of periods, including the (in)famous AK47 Republic. Good detail, good casting (easy cleanup), good price. Interesting rules sets too, all designed with a nice bit of period fitting flavour, Bloody Barons is pretty much the go-to set for Wars of the Roses for instance.

Mantic Games only mentioned twice? For shame...

Also, while they're sadly OOP now, the Starship troopers models are awesome.

I'm liking Mantic's Abyssal Dwarfs more than Forge World's Chaos Dwarfs, and more than Scibor's Moscals. However, I'll probably mix the three for a complete Chaos Dwarf army.

Holy shit, this is a creepy mini from Kingdom Death. The suckling baby, the girl crying in the fetal position exposing things that should not be exposed. The pregnant woman getting her milk pumped by a pulsing tentacle cord. That is freaky, man.

How come his site doesn't work? None of the links go anywhere.

Works fine for me, although if you're trying to buy the Wet Nurse, it's been sold out for a long, long time.

Wait, there was an actual reprint? Fuck. With so much demand shouldn't he be putting it into regular production?

Beside lonely people or persons without kids I can not think of its target market.

There was a game posted on /tg/ awhile ago with some unique races and decent looking minis. However, one of the armies was clearly furry, sexualised females and all. They were like persian/egyptian themed cat people. There were like human druid-knights who used the power of nature to like augment themselves or something too. I don't remember the other armies except that they were cool.

Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

They are really nice quality but yeah, you're looking at them being only very marginally cheaper than GW. A whole faction is much cheaper, but the individual models aren't.

Meeplemart is on Carlaw and has a pretty good selection of minis that aren't just 40K. Decent prices too. Only open on Tues/Thurs and I think Sun. A little hard to find.

    Hairy T overcharges imho.

Individual models isn't an issue. When you can spend $35 to $70 on everything you need for a faction, then I'd say you come out far cheaper than 40k and it's "1500-2000 pts is average, and $65 buy you a 150pt vehicle"
