Thanks! I will store this in my bookmarks.

While I agree that getting shit done is good, the overall low bar that's set isn't really an exemption from criticism. Being good doesn't mean they can't be better.

If anyone wants to come out with an overview of where the project sits right now, that would be nice. I've idled in the IRC and not seen discussion for a long time.

What do the sizes and colors of the systems represent? The letters?

It looks good and functional enough to me.
    >> vbcoder !!zk7AKmPfxNS 11/15/11(Tue)13:39 No.16938887
Nothing, yet. I set the size of the systems to be varied as it looked a little dull before.

The colours there show the selected node, in blue, and all connected nodes.

To show the numbers of marine/whatever within a node I was thinking perhaps a second circle around the system with, say, 6 segments, with 1 being visible if there were few marines, and 6 being visible if there were "steel rain" numbers. What do you guys think? Any other ideas?

The guy who used to post the big updates is having some IRL problems.

What's going on at the moment is basically that we've discussed the shit out of what features we want, and now it comes down to the long slow part of making things that we can put together. For the time being, the coders are coding, the artists are arting (pic related), and so on.

I think we all agree that more discussion would be good, but we went over basically all the game features at least once and usually twice or more in our old all-night discussions, and I think from here on out, we mainly need to discuss what to do when someone is unsure just how to proceed. Now, this doesn't mean "stop logging into the IRC," it means, "feel free to tune out, but check every once in a while to make sure nobody has a question that requires input".
For example, when I was getting ready to do this painting, I posted a list of all the segmentum battlefleet colors (I kind of didn't want to do classic blue) for people to pick from. They chose Tempestus (surprise, classic blue).

Vbcoder, that's amazing, holy shit. Pleeaase post it on the forums.
The idea of having a sort of magnitude scale for Marine presence seems like it would be good.
Maybe divide the rings down the middle, and have one half show enemy presence, and one half show chapter presence?

    Anon_scribe, I lol'd.
    >> Anonymous 11/15/11(Tue)15:16 No.16938897
That method of showing enemy presence would be insufficient if there's multiple enemies present. It could be an okay overview as long as more detailed info is elsewhere I guess, though.

Well, also there might be more than one Imperial army there.
Going full pie-chart mode for the 'enemies' half could look cool.

I was assuming that we'd be able to click the system and pop up a more detailed summary. A while back one of the coders made/was making a system description generator that included the various Adeptus presences, terrain, and so on.
    >> Jareddm 11/15/11(Tue)21:06 No.16938953
I agree with this. Simply having an indicator that there is a company there is enough. Clicking on a system would tell you how many.

Also, as I mentioned on IRC, my issue with having set warp paths is determining travel time. Would the distance between any given system be the same? Or did you plan for shorter lines to take less time?

    >> Anonymous 11/17/11(Thu)13:51 No.16948645

I would hope that it would be influenced by other things.

Taking Rites of Battle Chapter Generator as an example, there were options varying between being utterly independent and a new generation to being so damn close you might as well be one.

In Chapter Master, it should be the same. Allow us to actually have a choice, though, when we manually create a Chapter.
    >> Anonymous 11/17/11(Thu)21:27 No.16951469
I was thinking we could have the option of adopting the primogenitor's organization, codex (or codex +- a company or two) organization, crusade organization, and Wolves/Iron Hands- like clan organization.

If you picked Crusade or Clan organization, you would probably be a small part of the chapter, rather than an entire chapter, and be operating on a smaller scale. The sort of "lone squad of marines saves planet" scale, instead of "whole company of marines saves planet".
