105 KB TG Quest 2: Multiversal Boogaloo OP 10/06/11(Thu)15:27 No.16540773
    >>16534941

When we last left our intrepid band of time-space guardians, they had assembled a team and ship and set out to investigate the massive time-space distortion that more or less made an absolute shambles of this section of the multiverse.

Following up on their first lead, they arrived at a Transpace Guard space station, Sky-Eye Thirteen, only to find it abandoned, but completely functional. Investigating the area, they discovered that the planet below the station, an Earth with light traces of Tiberium, was also completely abandoned.

Delving deeper into the ominous mystery, the ship discovered and opened communications with a trio of ships belonging to the mysterious Orz.
    >> OP 10/06/11(Thu)15:30 No.16540791
You are still in communications with the Orz over the abandoned Earth.

Your ship is the TGS Cruiser, "The Oncoming Storm."

You have selected Spike Spiegal and Ibram Gaunt as your starting heroes.

You have selected 1 squad each of SCP Foundation Troopers, U.N.I.T. troopers, and Mobile Infantry in Marauders.

You have not found any artifacts or key items yet.
    >> Anonymous 10/06/11(Thu)15:45 No.16540877
    >>16540791
Let's back away from the Orz.
We'll have to consider the entire population of the planet below and the crew of the SE-13 to be lost.
But we still need the observation data that might still be on the station.

Prep UNIT for search and recovery of the station.
    >> OP 10/06/11(Thu)16:11 No.16541106
    >>16540877
You maneuver the ship away from the Orz. They follow for a while, keeping you in scanning range, but do not move closer than that as you approach the abandoned Sky-Eye 13.

The UNIT troops are loaded aboard one of your Lander-class shuttles and are dispatched with orders to search the station for clues, and survivors if by some miracle there are any.

The shuttle docks with the station no problem, using one of the external airlocks. The UNIT troops disembark and immediately begin sweeping the station. Shortly afterward, you receive a report from the squad leader.

"Sgt. Wallace here. Sir, we're starting our sweep. The station still has air, and our sensors are not picking up any toxins or harmful microbes. Still no sign of the original crew... but we're finding weapons scattered all over the place. Just lying around, or in the middle of the floor. Some of the station walls are damaged from small arms fire, but it looks strange for a fire fight. Like they were shooting in all directions. Additional orders or shall we carry on?"
    >> Anonymous 10/06/11(Thu)16:14 No.16541139
Are the weapons superior to the troops current equipment? If so, commence looting.
Also find a computer and see if it has some form of internet. If there is, see the last news items.

Look for the station's main computer, and attempt to access most recent sensor logs. It may hold clues as to how this whole crisis started.
    >> Anonymous 10/06/11(Thu)16:32 No.16541305
    Loot loot loot.
Also, can we scan the orz ships?
    >> OP 10/06/11(Thu)16:43 No.16541422
    >>16541139
Though not all of the gear is superior, the UNIT members loot it all anyway, just to have some backups in storage. You manage to acquire 12 assault rifles, 12 10mm pulse rifles, and 12 Marsec MA-11 laser rifles.

    >>16541163
One of the UNIT teams finally locates the main computer and begins looking through it for clues. Accessing the sensor logs, the last item registered is a massive disruptive wave erupting from the center of the TG patrol zone. Shortly after that, a small distortion field appears for two seconds on the planet before before vanishing. That field was centered in what was once Sarajevo. Shortly after that, the station's sensors go offline for a period of seven hours.

The station logs and security cameras then paint a grisly picture of men being lifted up and torn apart before vanishing into thin air. The crew grabs weapons and fires randomly, hoping to strike their invisible foes, but despite several valiant attempts and clever traps, the station's crew is slain and taken one by one until none remain. Several increasing panicked searches for "ghosts" "poltergeists" and other such phenomena are logged in the station computer.

Just before the disruptive wave, a transpace transmission was received from a dimensional probe near the center of the distortion wave. It is heavily encrypted with the standard TG codes, and unfortunately looks partially corrupted.

    >>16541422
If we can, transmit the probe data back to HQ for decryption and attempt to repair the corruption.
Pull the UNIT team back, and it might be time to check out Sarajevo.

    >>16541441
The Oncoming Storm lacks transpace transmission equipment at this point in time. However, A.N.O.N. can attempt to repair the data if you wish.

The UNIT team returns with no mishap.

First, have Spike do an atmospheric fly-by over Sarajevo to take a look around while the Oncoming Storm takes an orbital overwatch position.

SCP Troopers with Gaunt to go down and investigate the area where the distortion field was located. They are to take readings of the background reality and how stable it is. They are to be cautious, and the cap troopers are to be on standby for emergency orbital insertion in case of heavy resistance.

You begin to pilot the Storm closer to the planet, towards a geosynchronous orbit over Sarajevo.
Gaunt and the SCP and UNIT troopers begin to prepare for reality recon while they wait. The Marauders are already on standby in case of trouble.

Spike is already in his Swordfish, at your command he takes off, exiting the Storm's hangar bay and zooming down towards the planet's surface. Transferring the coordinates of the distortion to him, he descends on Sarajevo.

A.N.O.N. has begun analyzing the recovered data and will you give you what can be salvaged when it is ready.

Initial fly-by from Spike shows that Sarajevo is a heavily fortified fortress-city here, with numerous weapons emplacements, fortifications, barracks, factories and... automated defenses.

A series of surface to air missile batteries, completely automated, have emerged from hidden ports in the ground, firing a salvo of long range anti-air missiles at Spike's Swordfish!

Spike fires the Swordfish's plasma cannon, managing to blow up one of the salvos streaking towards him. He pulls his interceptor up and into the atmosphere before attempting to shake off the remaining missiles. Thanks to some fancy flying, he successfully evades most of them, but one explodes too close to his left wing and the Swordfish takes damage.

"I just want you to know that I'm tacking this onto your bill," Spike grumbles as he manages to keep the fighter flying, even as smoke trails from the damaged sections.

You can feed Spike telemetry now that he's out of close range. Another salvo of missiles is firing. Spike is attempting to return to the safety of space and outrange the missiles. Exploding the missiles before they get to him would be a good idea... unfortunately the Storm is not yet equipped with any sort of explosives. Just the laser batteries for now.

Trying to translate the Orz. It is *frumple*.

    >>"*Pretty Space* grows after the *spicy dance*! Orz can *slide* to all sorts of *new towns* now.

Hyperspace portals began opening up after a big war/cosmic event - Orz can either travel much further than they could, or traverse dimensions.

    >>Orz were *sliding* by when Orz saw *campers* from *above* and *below* dancing! Orz wanted to *dance* too, but both ships were *lumpy* and *jumped in front* of Orz.

The Orz were travelling between dimensions when two different extra-dimensional factions met over Earth and began fighting a battle. The Orz tried to muck in and also fight, but their ships were too powerful and drove the Orz off.

    >>The two *campers* *squeezed the juice* from each other, then one *squeezed* too hard? It is silly. And now *slippery places* are everywhere. Orz found a *slide* near the orbiting *playground*. *Campers* watching *campers*? What a joke!"

Both XD ships were heavily damaged, one exploded, and the cosmic rupture it created was responsible for the mess we see on earth. There are XD artefacts in or floating in space near the space station. The other XD ship is still hanging about somewhere, and the Orz think we might be with them?

A.N.O.N. reports that the file should be safe to view. It then relays the video transmission to the main screen.

The recovered portion of data shows a pair of ships locked in a fierce battle, while garbled, incomprehensible speech streams in the background, liberally intermingled with static. One ship looks almost more like a nightmarish gothic cathedral than a ship, every inch of its five mile frame covered with statues of figures in torment, or carvings of screaming faces, or demons committing terrible acts on each other. From its broadside belches fiery meteors of some form of gauss cannon shot, while other turrets fire ethereal and impure energy at the other vessel.

The other vessel is a world apart from the other, an angular, high tech vessel slightly smaller than its foe. It bears no visible cannon ports, but thin lines of energy erupt from portions of its hull to carve deeply into the mosaic-inlaid armor of its opponent, while other beams intercept and annihilate incoming projectiles with impossible speed.

Both ships appear heavily damaged, but the high tech one appears slightly worse off. Part of the speech resolves itself near the end.

"...impossible. Continue to fight...*static* ...last resort. We found it...*static*... activation. Begin seq- *static*... Stob."

Just a few seconds after the last word, a brilliant corona of light erupts from the high tech ship and the transmission ends.

A.N.O.N. resets the transmission and pauses it at the beginning in case you wish to view it again. As the still image of the two ships locked in combat hangs onscreen, you notice a large icon painted on the side of the high tech vessel...

However, they are a science-focused faction, so whatever they're bringing has more advanced than any possible 40K vessel. The information cannot be delivered to command until you return there physically. Acquiring a transpace comm. array might be a good priority the next time you get funding.

The Orz report that they couldn't recover anything because the *below campers* *jumped in front*. Nor can they aid with orbital clearing because their ships are armed with rail-cannons. Great for bunker busting, but not so much if you want precision work that doesn't level the surrounding area.

Gaunt should be told that he can simply make sure to have them go first into the trap-laden Temple Complex.
Spike can stay aboard and make sure the repairs to the Swordfish are to his standards. He can also peruse through our records if he thinks his investigative skills could be applied.
Looking through available records about the Temple Prime facility, I have a few questions regarding any scanning we've done.
    1) Are the Ion Disruption Generators from the old GDI attack intact, if not online? Those might be useful to commandeer as a ship defense if we can capture them.
    2) Is the Science Ministry Building intact? Any intelligence they would have would be useful in ship upgrades and the like.
The Liquid Tiberium facility is too dangerous to handle without specialized equipment which we don't have, but we should be careful not to, you know, blow it up.

Void Engineers? Fuck me. They're.. nicer than some of the other technocrats, but that is NOT saying much. I mean, Iteration X have terrifying augmented fighters, New World Order wants to be the Men in Black but Worse, the Syndicate are money-grabbing and remorseless cunts and the Progenitors cook up some horrifying biological monsters.

The Void Engineers? Mostly, they want to learn. They're explorers, finding out the unknown and finding out how to control whatever they find. Imagine them as the R in the R&D, Iteration X being the D.

However, they still look at everything with the methodical eye of a technocrat, making sure that everything falls under their paradigm of patterns. If they see something that they believe will contradict that paradigm, or can surpass that paradigm, they have space lasers to align to your face.

I'm not kidding about the space lasers. They're called the void engineers because they create things in the void, in space, setting up what they believe to be barriers and defensive structures to make sure that whatever they find don't fuck up their world.

    be. fucking. careful.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Ion Disruption Generators, or even their forebears, have not been designed yet. There is what looks to be a small lab complex within the city though.

Looming above it all is the ominous form of Temple Prime, now surrounded by smoking craters as the orbital bombardment clears the surface of automated defenses.

A squad of six Orz Marines makes an orbital insertion within the complex as your Landers slowly descend, disgorging their soldiers into the smoking ruins.

After some debate, more of the command staff wants to deploy the team to the labs first than the Temple, so that is what is decided.

The Orz take point as the squads enter the labs, which still have power despite the complete lack of personnel inhabiting it. The first few layers of security are easily broken through by virtue of the Orz simply MELTING through the thick security doors and barriers with their exoskeleton's fusion blasters.

It's only when the team descends to subbasement three that things begin to get hairy. When the security door to the third level is forcibly breached, a pair of high-power tiberium-enhanced lasers slide out of the walls and slice neatly through the Orz on point. The parrotfish-squid like alien flops sickly on the ground, its environmental suit breached and broken.

The SCP troops report that they've found what looks to be an access node for the lab's main computers. They are requesting orders .

The UNIT squads are quietly collecting materials from labs they deem 'safe'. Mainly these have to do with weapons research with either low or zero amounts of tiberium involved. They are trying to stear clear of the testing areas for things like Tiberium sprayers.

The UNIT specialist keeps an eye out for files that might be what you described as he continues to dump files.

Keep in mind, the specialist is not examining the files, he's just grabbing what he can find and copying it for later analysis by either A.N.O.N, the ship crew, or the home base. Most of the files are encrypted and may take time to fully analyze.

That being said, one of the SCP troops sets up a laptop and begins to go through the unencrypted stuff in response to your queries. He manages to find sensor reports from the base's topside arrays during the Event. Though most of the sensors do not register anything odd, he does notice something. A temporal sensor is part of the array, and detected a massive distortion wave originated from an unknown point. A few minutes later, the entire globe was covered in small distortions.

The Orz melt through the floor of the elevator and fly down the elevator shaft. At the bottom, they melt through the shaft doors, exposing a security antechamber with several automated sentry guns that fire a hail of hilariously useless bullets at the armored aliens. The Orz simply blow up the guns and melt down the several blast doors behind them, merrily tromping a trail of destruction through what remains of NOD security before arriving in a large room filled with monitors, computers, and electronics.

    NOD Command and Control.

The UNIT specialist relays that there is a hidden passage behind one of the supercomputers, leading to the elevator going down.

The pilots of the Landers need no encouragement to lift off at the sight of the monstrous mutants rolling towards them. The shuttles roar skyward, just as the Orz happily burst through the front of the Temple, firing fusion blasts at the Visceroids with delight.

The Marauders brace themselves in the shielded room.

The Storm begins bombarding, but its lack of specialization in that area is beginning to show. Though the lasers streaking down from the sky incinerate monster after monster, a horde of them still exists to roll against the Orz marines at the front of the temple. The Landers confirm your orders and open their bay doors, allowing the soldiers within to open fire as they fly in circles around the Visceroids. The slugthrowers seem to have minimal effect, but the troops wielding the looted Marsec rifles have better luck, their lasers burning through the Tiberium-infected flesh far easier.

The Visceroids' numbers have taken a severe hit by this time, mostly due to the bombardment, which now must cease unless you want to strike the Temple. There are about twelve 'baby' visceroids left, and two 'adults'. As you take note of their numbers, an alert crewman spots four of the 'babies' splitting off from the main group and rolling inside the Temple through a hole in the wall.

Searching for more nuclear weapons would take some time, but it would certainly be doable. Your team can gather the rest of the ICBM components from this site easily enough to assemble it within the ship and make it launch able. It might give your grunts something to do while your technical specialists go over the research data.

A.N.O.N. has finished analyzing the temporal research of the labs. Apparently they were conducting tests based on partially recovered data from a research base in the Black Forest that was destroyed some time ago. Research on this subject was considered low-priority in favor of more Tiberium research until about two years ago. It's not clear what happened, but something made NOD's high command issue orders to focus more on the temporal research. They had just managed to complete the groundwork for creating either a teleportation or temporal-transit device a few months ago. Research was then moved to Temple Prime's more secure laboratories. A.N.O.N. is working on those files now.

UNIT reports they have sorted through the devices they recovered from the labs. A number of Tiberium-enhanced laser guns are present. If you add in the Marsec rifles from SE13, you have enough to fully upgrade either the SCP or UNIT's weapons from slugthrowers to lasers. They have also recovered some experimental body armor that will allow you to give superior protection to one of these squads.

It takes some time, but the ICBM is assembled and mounted on one of the Storm's empty external hardpoints.

A.N.O.N. has completed analysis of the NOD Chronosphere data. It appears that the NOD scientists were not exactly positive what they were doing. Running off of old research data, it looks like they produced what they believed to be a time-machine, but A.N.O.N. is unsure that is what the device actually did. It is possible that the device they produced was in fact a one-man dimensional teleporter. The machine-chamber the Marauders found appears to be their prototype.

Furthermore, recovered security camera footage from Temple Prime's final hours show a bald man with a mustache enter the safe-room, converse with panicking scientists for a short time, then shoot both scientists in the head before entering the chamber-device and vanishing.

Gaunt is somewhat surprised you don't already know how to make sure the Chaos taint has not infected the probe. Other than having a sanctioned psyker or inquisitor examine it, check it for obvious signs of taint such as the various Marks, screaming faces, or sibilant whispers that seem to come from no where. If the device displays abnormalities in function that your tech-priests cannot explain, it may be tainted. If your ship's sensors display strange readings it may be tainted. As you are not under the protection of the Immortal God-Emperor yet, Gaunt realizes your machines do not carry the blessings that would aid such investigations.

He sighs and leans back. "All right. You got some major finds for our research boys. That's some funding. You got some information on what's going on, including some big names. That's some funding. You kept losses to a minimum and generally sound like you've made good use of what we've given you. That's also some funding."

Holtz enters some figures on his keyboard.

"You've got another hero, troop choice, and some space for ship upgrades. You can get one or two smaller escort vessels too, if you feel you need them. Figure out what you want, we'll scrape it up while the tech boys do their tech thing. Still want the Delta Greens?"

    Iffy, let's think on that.

Depending on what clues the technicians derive from the probe and data you may have additional options when the time comes, but here's the map again.

    >"Only a part of it! Anyway, the worst hit appear to be a small cluster of WH40K-class universes, some of which appear to have been SMEARED over neighboring realities and merged to a degree. Those would be the big black tumor looking blobs on the grid... The big red blob used to be a... quarantine zone? That's not good. Might want to save that one for later. "

    >"The ones least hit are the ones on the border of our patrol space, with the exception of this system, which unfortunately for us, is located a little more coreward... and dangerously close to that quarantine zone. Was that always so close? I don't remember..."

    >"Er, anyway, let's see. The realities on the edge of our patrol zone seem to be unharmed, but they'll be dealing with aftershocks and fallout for a bit. Well as you can see on the grid, the further in you go, the more twisted it gets, but... huh. Looks like there's a safe zone in the middle there, like the eye of the storm or something."

    >Holtz points to a big blue dot near the patrol zone border.

    >"This blue area used to be a cluster of realities based on movies as far as I can tell, but... shit, with THOSE readings, I dunno what it is now."

    Troops: Delta Green
We have SCP for investigation and containment, UNIT for regular combat, and the Mobile Infantry for heavy hitters. But Delta Green is for when we need something ruthlessly and mercilessly expunged. They have the mental fortitude to stand up to stuff better than the other troops, and the willingness to kill everything in their path.

Hero: If we can get him from the Laundry, I'd like to get Bob Howard. Late 20th/early 21st-century English sensibilities, an extensive knowledge of computing and network protocols, has access to files pertaining to BLOODY BARON, WHITE BARON, CODICIL BLACK SKULL, and CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN. Finally, he has e-Necronomicon on his iPhone. Real handy in a pinch, I think.

Upgrades: Better sensors and scanning arrays, so we can see things coming and run away before they see us.

Equipment: Better containment equipment rated to be able to handle WH40k Chaos, Commando Set from Small Soldiers, and a couple proton packs (including PKE meters, ghost traps, and other accessories, and enough to equip the SCP troops).

    <escort vessels

Can we afford Lance, Grig and their gunstar from The Last Starfighter? Or is that too many heroes in too contained a space?

If we can get them, that's just one vessel, and
I don't wanna be the one asks to see if we can a 2nd gunsstar from some random Rule 63. Sub-universe.

As for ship upgrades, perhaps a mechanicus temple so we can un-taint things we recover in case we find more chaos stuff?

By escorts, maybe he means capital ships?
Like Nebulon-B frigates from a Star Wars universe, or maybe a Gladiator-class Star Destroyer. Maybe Defiant-class escorts from Star Trek, if we can swing it.

Let's see if we can't fill both our 'hero' and 'escort ship' requests with Mothra.

I vote Tosh for our next hero, for those not in the know, Tosh is from the starcraft universe, he is a Spector, an experimental Upgrade of the Psykic Ghost troopers.

    Troop: Delta Green Investigation Squad
Hero: Tosh. Stealth is something that would actually serve us very well.
Escort: A Venator-Class Star Destroyer (1.1km) to cover us if we get attacked by a ship
    Upgrade: Advanced Scanners
Equipment: Chaos Containment, A crate of Small Soldiers, and a squads-worth of Bolt Pistols and Covenant Needlers for the Delta Green Squad (so they can actually hold their ground against abominations, not just stay sane).

    Troops:
The Human Defense Corps from the DC Universe
They're pretty obscure, but they were able to invade and occupy a circle of hell.

Do we have clearance for the Golems from Making Money?
As long as one of us wears a golden suit and know the right language, we should be able to command them.
