That was an exciting last thread.

So lets put on our gauntlet, and go get our information so we can try to come up with a plan to survive killing this bastard.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)05:58 No.16440999
We need to boost our Blitz to 3, and master a Flickering Blade swordstyle, making our effective speed in combat a 4. And complete our martial arts training for grappling and such.
Martial arts mastery allows for bare-hand fighting against armed opponents without penalties or something.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)05:58 No.16441000

Say, could we use the gauntlet to give our sword an overheat ability- Dump an extra two to four chakra points into the steamsaw ability, giving us a single superheated attack at the cost of not being able to use our sword at all for a few rounds, possibly the whole encounter, or risk breaking it?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:04 No.16441033
Hmm, well luckily for us, he's not the fastest shinobi ever, and A's probably faster than him...but we still need to be fast enough to dodge.

The other way to go about this is, instead of us speeding up, we find ways of slowing him down. The mist will help with some of this, but he'd be an idiot not to expect mist at this point and will likely have a counter for it. Perhaps a sticky-floor or other such jutsu.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)06:04 No.16441039
I like that idea. I would talk to Gen about doing it though, he'll be able to make it work.

Also, Gen's not gonna be happy.

A visit to a concerned but happy to see you Aya reveals that she has a small file on the Raikage, seems that not many people who fight him live to tell the tale. Amongst the people who have fought the Third Raikage are the Third Hokage, the Fourth Kazekage, and lastly Orochimaru. Most others are dead or aren't coming forward. From what information Kiri has been able to syphon away he attacks with speed, with force, usually in a single dynamic strike, like a bolt of lightning. Once he's up close he relies on his unbelievable toughness to endure damage. The only things that have ever hurt him have been Orochimaru's kusanagi, which is what cut the lightning scar on his chest, and the Fourth's Rasengan which knocked him out flat for a few seconds. Other than that, he's reported to be impervious to damage with a three-fingered jab that can kill upon impact.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:08 No.16441059

Any more info on this jab and how it works?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:09 No.16441066
Given what little I remember about how elements work I'm gonna guess it involves lightning somehow.

I remember something about how Lightning Chakra=Piercing or something.

    >"Oh come on, the scar is specifically self inflicted, part of his 'ultimate shield, ultimate spear' thing."
    >"Oh yeah, no Biju fights..."
Or were you fishing for in character hints?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:12 No.16441085

In-character. I already know how it works.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)06:15 No.16441101

She pauses before saying, "I'd hesitate to guess that's it's similar to Copycat Kakashi's Lightning Blade, lightning is the piercing element, after all, and it would make sense that delivered at great speed with his significant force behind it, you could impale almost anyone through any armor." She says while adjusting her headband. "He looks extremely dangerous. And from what else I've read he's absolutely brimming with chakra."
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:21 No.16441129

    ...Can he swim?

Nigga can pierce all he likes, but he ain't liable to move so fast underwater.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)06:22 No.16441135

"Umm....I can't rightfully say. I suppose he might have learned, but swimming isn't something they do much in Lightning Country. Despite that, he can just tadayu like we all can, and he can more than likely swim as part of his counter-Mist tactics they taught." She says, "But then again, who knows for certain."
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:26 No.16441155
I think we'll need to be tricky here guys. Let's see if we can't make a variation of the Mizukage's acid mist to melt this guys lungs from the inside. Maybe even some kind of steam variant?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)06:26 No.16441157
Guess it's that time of night for OP to go to sleep. I'll see you guys in about 6 hours board time. Lay out some stuff you want us to do, and I'll get on it when I'm up. Also, we've got a Perk and a few skill points laying around, let's use them, but maybe not just yet. Let's have a few conversations and see where we can throw them.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:28 No.16441162
Interesting thought- can anything pierce the Water Prison technique?

It might prove an effective last-econd shield if it comes down to it.

Either way, we need something that can get through his tankin' blows...Saito and his wraithing might be an answer. If he can wraith-form anything inorganic, could he wraith the ground, causing the 3rd to fall, then reform it, phase-fragging him?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)06:30 No.16441184
A simultaneous burst of chakra from all parts of the body as well as a focus at the weakest point of the Prison, usually opposite where the creator's hand is, breaks it as seen when Neji does it. However, since it's Neji, it seems to require chakra control that only a Hyuuga could achieve. I fear, however, the Lightning Armor may be enough to get him out of it.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)06:55 No.16441298
His speed rank is, like, 6, he can break our blade easily, his lighting armour is impenetrable, and his chakra rivals a Kisame one. And he is known to have a tag-team partner, who is a motherfuckin Killer B. And Killer B can make a lighting powered Kaiten with 7 swords at once.
    Challenge fucking accepted!
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)08:08 No.16441627
Oh, disregard that, I thought it was a 4th Raikage.
A 3rd one, at his prime, is even more dangerous.

It's funny. We tried to make a thread like this back in the days when /tg/ was awesome and unmoderated. Tried to bring out the good side of Naruto - the good side being the crazy politics of different hyper-paranoid nations and their cold war of wizard ninjas.

The result was every thread discussing it getting trolled to death for being about weeaboo Naruto shit.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)08:20 No.16441679
How very reassuring. As we currently stand, there's no way we can take on the Third. I assume the assassination is intended to be a team attempt, with us acting as the bait.
Even so, this guy held out against an entire army by himself. We're going to need to whip the Seven Swords into top shape before we can even consider it.

So possible advance paths I get from most of your ideas, guys:
    1) Fuujitsu + Swordstyle
Cool, thematic, useful. Also sealing/summoning jitsus. Could summon ourselves to our sword, while it flies to enemy.
    2) Kekkei Genkai Mastery + Martial Arts
Awesome, thematic, useful. I like a regenerating Bone Shield idea a lot.
    3) Chakra Control + Fire Style
Well, fire jitsus, blood boiling, vapour style with conjuction with water style and shit.
    4) Chakra Control + Sensor
We just lost a hand, because of our reliance of passive sensoring. Passive sensoring can be improved, though. Like greatly boosting our defence improved.
Also have to remake Willow Whisper, to, like, requiring a higher Taijitsu score/Speed rank than that of target. Because its fucking god-mode against armed opponent.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)10:24 No.16442268
Willow Whisper, combined with improved Chakra sensing may be our key to defeating the Raikage. We should also improve Blitz while we're at it, including the procurement of either a Byakugan or Sharingan. The more we have in terms of high speed reaction, the better.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)10:36 No.16442327
Can we use/reforge Kiba twin swords we took from Raiga? Those are, like, sharpest swords ever, we can use them to cut through Raikage lighting armour.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)11:56 No.16442721
We need to go Yuki and talk to her about our new Mozenrath -like hand and find out about it and thank her, if she'll let us. Do we still have our physical strength in that hand too? We might need to test that.

We also need to go to Gen. I'm not sure if we should do this before we talk to Yuki or after, but we need to apologize for one-half of the seal being destroyed - if I remember, it was on both hands, and I'm not sure if it goes to the bone - and maybe have a new seal done - changed a bit, to allow our new slight-Shikotsumyaku to be used with it. I'm not sure how, but we should try to use it.

And regarding the six perks you said we needed to give to the rest of the Swordsmen - there has been a lot of a talk of some kind of Team Bonding perk for everyone, and I've made mention that it should be our Seven Massacres of the Mist but when brought up, you don't seem to talk about them. Any reason for that?

Anyway, read Operation Light Break and find out what it entails. And, although it pains me to say, the Mizukage said that 'we will assassinate him'. Our duel is just a distraction. If we can kill him, more points to us, but it's not set up for that.

And finally, OP? Do you think you could start each time with a quick recap and at least Shimaru character sheet?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)11:56 No.16442723
This is a bad idea. Not being able to us Suiseiken? Never. However, adding more of our chakra to Suiseiken is always a good idea, to allow for more control and power. Maybe we can slowly awake Suiseiken, and our sword and Sempai's sword can chat while we wrassle.

Speaking of Sempai, ask Aya about his movements? Not that we're fool enough to go rushing out after him but we really should see what he's doing.

I notice a lack of Avatar of the Sea.

We also have Kubikiribōchō, don't forget. I do want to somehow add that 'absorbs iron from the blood to continually self repair' from Zabuza's sword to everyone's blade, or at least ours. Stab someone, steal all their iron and use the rest of the blood to make more mist. I like that.
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)11:57 No.16442730
Could we find a way to graft them onto our arm? Another thing though is that we need to do is discuss this with the other swords. They might have thought of something we haven't.

The kinkaku force are annoying I'm begining to think that three of them always escape, I mean when the Third Hokage faced them three survived then too right?
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)12:06 No.16442799
So ask about Kisames movements, talk to Yuki, talk to Gen and then meet with the rest of the swords. In the meeting discuss the mission what should we have done differently (aside from not killing them all), and how to assasinate the Raikage. Is he suseptible to poison do you think? Noone is without weaknesses we just have to figure out what his is.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:09 No.16442827
Hey, how many ANBU masks and whatnot did we take from the dead bodies before we handed them over to...whoever we hand it over to?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:13 No.16442857
Well, check the briefing, it may describe how Mizukage wants him dead. If not, Ides of March him in the mist.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:14 No.16442865
...Shall we go Sharingan? Byagukan are a bit too hard to get a hold of, what with their paranoia, but I think Sharingan are a lot less protected. No to mention Itachi hasn't gone slaughtermode yet so we have a supply.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:20 No.16442897
    5) Chakra Manipualtion + Water style(already mastered)
Avatar of the Sea is about reactive chakra-infused water armor, right? Which can grow us a pair of additional liquid limbs even. Sounds super solid, but getting hit by lighting, while using it, gonna cost you.
Why not keep it simple, and give everyone one extra dice for teamwork, while all Seven Swordsman are assembled?

Oh, and Vapour style/Fire style + Willow Whisper allows for fun combos, like choking guy with one hand, making seals with another, and spewing fire/acid vapour in his face at point blank.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:20 No.16442901
Oh no. We are not going 'Sharingan for everyone' mode. We can focus on training ourselves to overcome such stupid focus on eye-power.
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)12:23 No.16442918
I do like the idea of stealing a bloodline for evreyone, its already been said though that we can win without chimeraizing ourselves. Besides we should be focusing on being swordsmen first and anything else second. WE do afterall have a title to uphold.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:29 No.16442946
Well, that's why we have multipul layers. And I'll agree, yeah, we don't wanna test it out when we have to find the LIGHTNING KAGE, but I honestly want our flicker-blade ARMOR OF THE SEA to become scary-as-shitness.

Hey, as we did kill Zabuza, do you think that Gato would hire us in...ten years?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)12:35 No.16442979
Agreed. And I enjoy our new arm. I just hope that the Sharingan isn't appear everywhere like it does for the actual series.
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)12:37 No.16442989
Well if it does then of course we'll take them. We just don't have to graft them onto the seven swords, we sell them for LOADS A MONEY
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:12 No.16443160
Hey, I was thinking: We've mastered Water Talent, and if we improve Chakra control, we can probably get Avatar of the Sea. We may need to Master the Water Clone technique as well.

But here: the Raikage uses a lightning armor. We create a jutsu that will use chakra-infused tendrils of water that go into the ground to drain away the lightning, like a lightning rod?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)13:15 No.16443172
Won't happen. This I promise you, the fact that the sharingan keeps showing up with more and more derpy abilities is just one big thing I despise. So yeah, when itachi goes all murder happy in 5 years or so, the effects will be very real.

I've been working on exactly how to impliment a Team-wide perk, or at least to get the specifics of ours, don't worry, your words aren't falling on deaf ears. After all, once I do one for the swords I can do one for the other famous teams.

You managed to recover two masks and a single cloak that weren't either damaged or hastily squirreled away by your own ANBU forces.

Aya updates you that Kisame has been laying low and what reports have come in place him as far away as the Land of Rivers, by the Hidden Sand Village.

Yuki seems to be waiting for you and when you arrive she explains the following. Due to the nature of the healing she used you possess a portion of her Kaguya powers. Because you are already done growing, your powers won't grow much more unless stimulated to. She offers, without any show of hesitation, to help foster the growth of those powers in you. However, even if done correctly, you will never have the strength of a full-blooded Kaguya. What you will have, however, is the ability to regrow the bone on that hand, channel chakra through it, and grow spikes out of it, as well as make it iron-hard.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:16 No.16443182
We have the beginnings of the Avatar of the Sea and we remove one of his greatest defenses.

Although, I did note that it might not be us to kill him and we might just be a distraction, so we should get ready to just dodge and endure.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)13:17 No.16443183
This guy, right here. I like that idea. Yes, in Naruto lightning and water have no direct strength-weakness relationship but we have seen that water does conduct electricity as you'd expect. So running it into the ground may be a way to negate some of the power of the Lightning Armor.
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)13:17 No.16443185
Worth a shot, still I really want a way to take him down that requires as few of us in cqc with him as possible.
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)13:22 No.16443202
Just checking how long do we have before we're to assassinate the Raikage?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)13:24 No.16443214
That's the thing, the time-line is hard to guess here. The Raikage hasn't even sent us word that he's aware of what's happened and thus we don't have a chance to plan our strike. Despite this, once he does make an appearance in one way or another the Mizukage will do her best to sandbag him and slow everything down, giving you plenty of time to plan and prepare.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:24 No.16443215
    Ah, good, we'll get that...

    Wait, other famous teams? Shit.

Ok, ANBU masks and cloak go into the 'trophey' section of our house. Erm, just how much would our own ANBU kill us if we started wearing the masks on missions or in town?
Anyway we get as much training with our bone-hand as we can. Although, why would we not want this power?
Erm, just, for clarification, is our hand just bone with no flesh, or do we have flesh over it? And have we gotten paid?

We can negate their ire if we paint the masks to be obviously non-ANBU.

For example, we could cover ours in black tendrils, or if we want to totally match our armour paint the whole thing grey/blue and add mist decals to it.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:31 No.16443262
Mizukage plan seems to be to orgainize a 1on1 duel with him, then swarm him with ANBU.

Okay, so we're going to take Yuki up on the offer of training in Kaguya abilities.

We still need to know how much we got paid, and distribute skill points and perks.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)13:32 No.16443269
Glad to hear someone's interested in trying it out. I've made PLENTY of rules on the fly and will do so more and more as we keep playing, so stay tuned in to the thread for some updates, or if you don't care and just want to update it yourself, feel free and have fun

What would make him come after the Leaf?

ANBU will not be happy and it may lead to taking your stuff. At the least, I'd wear it only outside the village. The only reason you may not want this power is time, it will take long hours for these therapy sessions for no huge payoff, but rather several small ones. Your entire forearm is bone with no flesh, and yes, you were paid very handsomely to the tune of 500 ryo. In addition to the payments she did for your team's swords.

I know, but a lot of people seem to be thinking how we can actually take him out ourselves. I wanna make sure which it is - because I wanna know if we're gonna walk into the ring witha dead man, wait a minut and there will be a dead man in front of us, or if we have to go four rounds before the posion kicks in or wha tnot.
    >> aon 09/27/11(Tue)13:35 No.16443279

    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:36 No.16443291
Okay, so we still need more money to pay for the ANBU cloak we have on reserve.

I think having 2 ANBU cloaks would be really useful, if we ever go on a stealth mission with a partner.
But yeah, put that stuff into a footlocker or something, and only take it out when we go on a mission; don't put it on until we're well away from the Village.

Also we need to practice our chakra control and detection, in order to get Avatar of the Sea and the lightning drain technique.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:38 No.16443300
Not sure, just a feeling that they might be confused, with us wearing a Leaf outfit and old armor. Just an odd feeling I had, never mind.

Well, reguarding Yuki: "I do not care how long it takes, and nor do I care how small the gains. It will help, and it will help me know your strengths as well."

And regarding the cash, can we go pay for the cape we put a downpayment on?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)13:38 No.16443302
    That will be acceptable.

You have the 2 skillpoints left over from before. 6 Perks, which I will write down as Massacre of the Mist as a placeholder, and the one you get from successfully completing the mission, as well as everyone else's new one. Everyone also gets 2 skillpoints. Also, noticing how quickly things ramp up, I'm considering doing scaling costs in the future. (IE Skillpoints 1-2 costs 1 point, 3-4 costs 2, and it takes 3 skill points to cap a skill out at five). But for now we'll leave the system unaltered.
Not ANBU, necessarily, the idea will be to try and do this without dirtying the Mist's hands. Primarily she wants you and the Seven to do it and make it look like something she didn't plan.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)13:39 No.16443306
Enough talk of powers and growth, we need to THANK YUKI. Nevermind that we're the leader of the seven swordsmen and a friend- despite everything Yagura has done to her and her people, she selflessly gave away some of her bloodline to help us. That earns her instant bro status in my book. We need to do something personal for her, be that talking to the mizukage and getting the Kaguya clan back into positions of power, making the entire clan an offshoot of the swordsmen, or even making a Kaguya clan trust fund. We need to let her know how fucking cool she is to even consider doing that just to save our ass.

You've got a great idea. Sadly, Yuki is the last of her line, except for a single other Kaguya who is sadly doomed to die of bronchitis in about....nine years or so. Also, he's six at the moment. Yuki is the only adult Kaguya left in this world. I'm sure she'd appreciate the gesture though.

We could probably act out that we're pissed about lossing the arm, maybe set up a mission where he'd be able to get to us after or during. That would explain why we'd go off without orders after his head, spread some rumors that we hate them for some reason or another and went above and beyond anything our Kage expected us to do last mission. Are there poisons which cause cuts to bleed profusely? If there are and we manage to turn this into a battle of attrition we'd stand a chance.

So are we using this set of stats for Shima (before applying skill points gained from this mission):
    Injury: 9/18/36

However, our perk will be our yet-undefined 'Massacre of the Mist ' and put our two points into Control or Detection, whichever is lowest. >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)13:58 No.16443439
Funny you should ask, we never really brought up parents. From the way we are I don't see us having much of a family life anyway. Our professionalism seems to stem from either a driving parent pushing us, or a way to find acceptance immediately from strangers due to our lack of any parental figures in our past. More than likely, our parents died in one of the many violent conflicts seen in the Bloody Mist in the past years.

Also, Kimimaro has literally just started living with Orochimaru as the Kaguya clan massacre was less than year ago. Orochimaru is priming him for being his new host in three body cycles. Lastly, it's extremely likely Yuki can cure him since the Kaguya anatomy is so different and she's well acquainted with it.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)14:00 No.16443445
That's a good idea. I also have considered using the Tactics Pool to allow a tactician to "set-up dunks" as in letting people take additional actions or act out of turn for a large sum of Tactics Pool, like 5 or something.

    That also sounds reasonable.

And..have we finished with Yuki and gone to Gen yet, or not?

Also, gaming suggestion, but is there any differenences between the various hidden villiages? Because it might make sense that Mist - with it's focus on the strongest and killing your team - would tend to raise Nin that do very well in their chosen field, but not as generalists.

Just got back from sleep and class. I'm catching up.

    >Enough talk of powers and growth, we need to THANK YUKI. Nevermind that we're the leader of the seven swordsmen and a friend- despite everything Yagura has done to her and her people, she selflessly gave away some of her bloodline to help us. That earns her instant bro status in my book.
Yep, Yuki owns. The Land of Water is still incredibly stupid for discriminating against kekkei genkai.

So now we look like a D&D Pale Master with our one bone arm, or what?

This somehow has to end in a rap battle with Killer B.

    >We'll just chalk our extreme growth up to fortunate circumstances and the efforts of some great shinobi to accelerate our training. I'm gonna do my best to slow things down a lot more for us, and level up my NPC's to compensate. Yes, we get Perk- Kekkei Genkai (Weak Inheritance) for free.

The skeleton of it is evident in the original sourcebook and I've certainly shown one thing that's unique to the Mist, Dual Roles in a Duo. We're more effective at doing more with less, but large scale teamwork isn't really our thing, neither is working outside of our element be it without water or without the teammates we're used to having.

For Leaf I'm giving them the Will of Fire, which is to be determined at a later time.

Cloud gets basically an upgraded form of Prejudce, the Feat.

Sand will get bonuses to individual skill but penalties to working together, they don't like teaming up unless it's demanded.

As for the Stone, I can't make their ability to be throw-away ninjas interesting, so instead I'll make them extremely loyal and disciplined, making them work better under supervision and better with subordinates under them.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)14:20 No.16443604
Driven parents dying at a young age it is then. We spent our most formative years, our teenage years, only with the warm embrace of the mission and our sword to carry us through life, which is where our veneer of professional distance comes from.

We go and visit Gen who is absolutely horrified at what happened to your hand, just shocked at it, but when you move it and show full control he becomes interested again, "Well....I don't know if I should go putting seals on your arm if Yuki-san is going to be enhancing its bloodline power...so for now, let's just wait and let it be."

Asking Aya...well, you could talk to her about Yuki and bring up your wishes for the well-being of the Kaguya clan and she could respond with mentioning missing a body after the massacre.

Yep, we look just like a Pale Master.
And yes, I think I will exercise the scaling skills as listed above, 1-2 is 1, 3-4 is 2, leveling to 5 costs 3 because it also gives us the bonus to stats. That actually feels a lot more logical and reasonable.

Good enough for me. As you read the Kaguya clan's history it notes two full inheritors of their Kekkei Genkai in the last fifty years, one is Yuki and the other is a young boy named Kimimaro who according to the family chart was second cousins with Yuki, fairly far apart for a clan.

After telling you about how he won't be able to write the seal on your bone until your training with Yuki is complete Gen asks you about your mission and you tell him what you're allowed to. "I say, Shimaru, you're just a big mystery man, aren't you?" he asks as the two of you sit out on his porch and he smokes a pipe idly, "Tell me, is there anything I can help you with, my crippled friend?

Lock away the sword and Kisame loses a whole host of his powers, and is basically a walking chakra factory." Kurenai broke out of the technique Itachi reversed on her by biting her own lip. Samehada disrupts Kisame from being in Genjutsu by inserting its chakra into him. There's a fair amount of precedent, and it also tends to lead someone to being reliant on their tool to save them. Also, ours doesn't stop Kekkei Genkai Genjutsu, I believe I noted.

For us, yes it will be. For a Kaguya it's Taijutsu since it's part of their anatomy they just know how to use it. We have to actively manipulate the chakra for it.

He hasn't brought forth his terms just yet, but the Mizukage wants you to plan for the worst possible situation. 1 on 1, no ANBU present, your swordsmen have to assassinate him mid combat, as well as his guards/escorts.

Also, tell Yuki that we are sorry but we will need to spread the rumor that we lost our hand and are furious with the results. We know a few genjitisu works, so we should add someoning to our bone hand so it doesn't seem to exist. Or make our gauntlet look a bit more like it's doing the work for a missing hand.

You're the best, around, nothing's gonna ever bring you down.

News of the Raikage's fury reaches the village the next day, where he is handled by the Mizukage. It turns out he wants a duel with you, since in his eyes its tantamount to an execution. The only drawback, however, is that the fight will take place in Lightning Country, and there's nothing the Mizukage could say or do to have him do it in Mist. So, instead, she and he both agree that they will conduct the battle in the Land of Fire, the Fourth Hokage's agreement coming quickly as he promises to send ANBU agents to supervise the even as well as some higher level Jonin. Now that you are aware of your setting and time you begin working.

Using the water from the pool you use your intimate knowledge of Water Style Jutsu to combine with the Water Clone and bring the water up around your body, like armor, leaving narrow air passages for you to breathe in as you learn to negotiate yourself in it as well as fight with your sword in its new lighter arm, the gauntlet helping bridge the gap.

After the day's training you and Yuki go to her house where he treats your bones, infuses them with her chakra, and feeds you herbs which will spike your growth a little bit to enable your body to adapt to the bones and the Kekkei Genkai you are slowly inheriting. By the end of two weeks you are able to sprout a single prong of iron hard bone from the top of your wrist.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)15:48 No.16444193
Your team-mates, meanwhile, have learned to work better together. Gendo is more comfortable with summoning his crocodiles, Tetsuo is even more reliable with his dash, Saito actually learns a few offensive techniques, and Waraji controls his anger enough for him to use Battlemind for a whole five minutes before burning out in a huff of anger. Mangetsu's health, meanwhile, is a little frightening as some days he's too weak to work, and others he's manic and active. According to Yuki he is fighting with a potentially lethal disease that not even she can cure.

Your team's main focus, however, is counter ANBU tactics. All of your members take to carrying gourds of water from the Sanctuary with them, learning to unleash a small pulse of water that will stop prematurely if it hits anything, allowing you to detect ANBU even whilst completely hidden, as they are still material. In addition, Tetsuo has taken extreme focus to sniffing out even the slight of chakra activity, making his senses all the more intense.

Before you depart for the Land of Fire Gen greets you at the village gate with a small patch of paper, "This is a Wind-element scroll. It's extremely temporary and works a single time. If you wrap it around your blade and turn on the saw instead of water and fire you get a buzzing wind blade. However, if you do this your blade cannot be used for at least a week since the elemental nature ruins the...you know what, you probably don't care or understand anyway. Long story short, use it, but don't turn your sword's saw on again or you will rupture it." And with that you set off.

Bringing along the other 6 Swordsmen may be acceptable. If so, I have a use for them. Considering that there are going to be Leaf ANBU AND high-level Jonin (fucking Kakashi, and likely also ones with Byakugan and another Uchiha or two), we're not going to be able to simply kill everyone there.
Since we have the battlenet genjutsu, we'll use a team formation, so that we can get tactical updates on techniques that the Raikage is about to use from our genjutsu and ninjutsu experts, and our Sensor to tell us where he is and what his chakra is doing.

Also, why a wind-saw? What would that do?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)16:11 No.16444404
In the world of Naruto Wind is the element that dominates lightning. A wind jutsu and a lightning jutsu meeting makes the lightning rebound back on its owner with the wind slashing at them to. No, for all my love and knowledge of the setting, it doesn't make much sense to me either. Sure, you could probably hide Mangetsu and none of the many sensors would notice him til he's out and around you. If he's careful he can try to suppress his chakra, or you could drug him so that his chakra is weak.

On the one hand, the more we troll, the more of a dick we're going to look like, and we're already wearing the clothes of their dead comrades.
On the other hand, getting the enemy worked up and clouding their mind with emotions is a basic psyop manuever.

It'll be funny for us, but considering that he's a Kage, he might see through it and not be affected.

Here's how I envision the team working. They stand on their side of the battlefield, outwardly just watching.
On the inside, our sensors are trying to find the ANBU and making sure that the Raikage is actually where we think he is, and he's not using a clone or a substitution.
The tactician advises us on where to go and what the Raikage is about to do.
Ranged specialist analyses any jutsu the Raikage uses and tells us what about to hit us.

It takes almost two days travel to arrive on foot, but you arrive in the large clearing, ringed by trees. This is a site of a past battle in the Second Shinobi World War, where the Sannin turned away a massive Sand army by themselves.

Already there is a wooden ring surrounded by tags at regular intervals. ANBU agents are flooding the field, easily thirty or fifty of them, and three Jonin are visable. One of them is a dark haired man who is sitting on a fence post smoking. He's chatting up a pretty brunette woman with red eyes, and beside the both of them is another dark haired man with a bowl-cut and a look of interest as he listens in. Despite their rather toned down appearances you can sense that they are powerful individuals.

Nope, I'm using the point-scaling we talked about earlier. I'm glad I didn't do it retroactively, cause you'd be so hosed.

The Cloud Nin haven't arrived just yet, but you're pretty sure they will be here shortly. ANBU agents swarm your team-mates and pat them down, counting their armaments and assigning an agent to each member of your team to stand beside them and monitor their chakra activity.

In short order the Cloud arrives, the elderly Raikage stands a head above the rest. By his side are his two sons A, who looks furious at seeing you here, and B, who is wearing sunglasses and bopping from left to right, humming to himself and rapping quietly before his brother whacks his head to get him to stop. The ANBU do the same for the Cloud, having no love for the Land of Lightning.

The Raikage speaks up, "I have an announcement. I have fallen ill as of recent, my health on the wane due to my age. As a result, I announce it here that I renounce my claim to the name of Raikage and give it to my son, A." He says and coughs, his son smiling wickedly, "As a result, your duel today is with A." The Jonin from the Leaf all stand up at once and turn to see your reaction, apparently expecting you to charge them and cut them in half.

(This is my last big post before work.)

So anyway, our plan doesn't change too much; A still uses the same basic strategy and techniques as the Third Raikage. We can still implement our plan unchanged. The big worry is A's speed.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)19:11 No.16445830
Unless it still has the Land of Whirlpools' symbol stitched into it, which we didn't say we had removed. Although it could be taken on good faith that when we had it modified we did that, since the point was to make it look more Mist Village, or was it just for camouflage? I imagine we would know about the Whirlpool connection, since it is between the Land of Water and Fire. I also imagine it was the Hidden Mist that destroyed them, maybe during the third war. Or maybe it hasn't happened yet. Either way I think it depends on if we were going for Maximum Trolling when we got the jacket.

In other news I think we are well within decorum to reconvene with the other Mist Ninja, to reassess the mission goal, before getting in the ring, maybe with a parting jab about being sanctioned to kill the Sandaime Raikage, not Yondaime (If we want to goad him into the fight).
I don't think this is a feint on his part, he probably really has grown weak, making a prospective fight with him preferred, and maybe even better for the mission. I mean, if Yondaime dies, command returns to Sandaime, and we have killed a powerful ninja, but their more experienced leader remains. I guess it depends on who we see as the more valuable target, and perhaps the more opportune target. Fighting A now /might/ be good, since he is less experienced, but they are confident enough to promote him and send him to us. They could just be underestimating us though.
Anyways, after all this waffling, I think we should target the Third, just because they don't want us to, though I look forward to other input on the point. Also, I don't think we are under any real obligation to fight A if we don't want to, it might look petty to try and argue the point though.

The mission was to assassinate the Raikage because we are tired of Kumogakure's shit and wanted to seriously hurt them. Now, we are presented with an opportunity that may be a better means to that end. It's up to the Seven Swordsmen to decide which course is better, since I doubt we can get in contact with Mei before we have to make some kind of decision. We have Saito, who is a tactician and I bet a bit of a historian, not to mention son of a Mizukage; we have Mangetsu, who is a veteran of the most prestigious group, who serve right under the Mizukage and is no fool; we have Tetsuo, who understands people (genjutsu score). We have the means to make this kind of decision; we are expected to as high ranking Jounin, and leaving without at least one Raikage corpse on the ground is failing the mission.

If we kill A, there's little doubt the Third Raikage will gun straight for us. With some luck, we can even get ANBU to off him for us, considering subduing the man is near impossible. Anywho, I say we kill A in the duel, subtly taunt pops, then see where that gets us.

Best Case Scenario: A and the Third are eliminated, Bee becomes the Fifth (Technically) Raikage.

Still along the lines of provoking the Third (if we choose that course), if he said something about being a man and accepting the challenge in response to us stalling, "I am not merely a man. I am a shinobi, a tool of my village. I fight at the pleasure of my Mizukage, and my life is not my own to pit in a match she did not wish." We could announce that he has dishonored himself by changing the terms of this confrontation, and attempts to have us do the same by accepting. "Did crippling illness really take upon you so fiercely and suddenly, between arranging this meeting and arriving?"
If we wanted to enrage him after a hypothetical A killing: "It seems the rise of The Cloud is at an end. All that remains of their Head Family is a sick, old Raikage who can't even fight his own battles."
Although being enough of an asshole, I don't expect any Leaf ninja to jump in when he tries to murder us.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)20:38 No.16446837
What, you think the Leaf Village will purposefully fail their role here as impartial judges? This is a duel of honour; not something one screws around with.

Don't forget a snide comment about him having sent his son to die in his stead.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)20:45 No.16446897

Maybe make a comment about how he's sacrificing his own son? That's what it seems like to me.

On the other hand, A looks eager to fight us.

    >"I am not merely a man. I am a shinobi, a tool of my village. I fight at the pleasure of my Mizukage, and my life is not my own to pit in a match she did not wish."
Hmm...yeah, if either the Third Raikage or A say anything about us stalling, this is a good response. As a professional we don't throw away our lives needlessly or in futile gestures.

"I am a professional; I do not throw away my life or the lives of my subordinates on empty gestures or to simply spite an opponent. More than I can say about the previous Captain of the Kinkaku Force."
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)21:45 No.16447519

And I'm thinking that the Raikage's pretty confident in thinking that A will curb-stomp us. And considering he's young and vital...he might have a point. There's no way in hell we can match his speed.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)22:03 No.16447736
Like I said, Willow Whisper is our major gamble here if we want to deal with his speed. If we can couple it with a Wind Scroll powered punch we might be able to do enough damage to seal his speed in our first counter-attack.

On a side-note, now that everyone realizes how broke-ass Willow Whisper is, how should we fix it? I'd say instead of an auto-block we make it a competing Taijutsu check since it's based off of our weapon skill. That'd also work as a general rule for weapon maneuvers now that I think about it.
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)22:11 No.16447835
While thinking up sick burns to troll the Third is fun, we should probably be figuring out how the hell we are going to actually kill one of them. I don't know the combat rules very well, but I imagine hitting something called Lightning Armor would shock the shit out of you (the wiki article on it doesn't say this though, it just speaks to it being a physical and defensive buff). We have the idea grounding him with water, but it is a high level technique, so we can't expect it to be countered easily; it might discharge the armor, requiring him to refocus it and give us an opening.
Something I like in general for Shimaru is insubstantial clones, cheaper and easier to make than a full water clone, but incapable of doing damage. The standard bunshin would be fine, but it can be seen through by an observant opponent since it doesn't affect the environment. Something like a "mist clone" that has just enough substance to stir the air (since I think the mist not moving around a standard bunshin would be a dead give away) and disturb the ground would be ideal. If someone commits to an attack on one, they are vulnerable to an attack from us; use them in tandem on offense, and they have to dodge an attack coming from multiple directions or risk parrying the wrong one. I imagine a kiribunshin no jutsu would use the same principles as mizubunshin, so I hope we could pull it off without specific training.
Also, I doubt he has any strong perception skills, so I think we should be trying to take full advantage of restricted visibility in the mist. If he can't see us, he can't use his speed to get that alpha strike in, which we both rely on. In fact it might be worth going for an immediate attack, before/while he's trying to perform supplementary jutsu like the lightning armor. If he goes evasive, then we should just set up the mist, since we probably won't be able to catch him, but a preemptive strike might be our best bet.

    >What, you think the Leaf Village will purposefully fail their role here as impartial judges? This is a duel of honour; not something one screws around with.
No. Leaf will be impartial, as an organization. Especially with Minato around to keep them honest. Individual Leaf-nin might feel differently, but on the whole I'm betting they'll do what they're supposed to.

    >I imagine hitting something called Lightning Armor would shock the shit out of you
Well, we -can- throw our sword. And then immediately have it back to block. IIRC we still have to spend chakra on that, but it should work to keep us from getting zorched.

    >On a side-note, now that everyone realizes how broke-ass Willow Whisper is, how should we fix it?
Since people are discussing mechanics... OP, once this quest is over do you plan on releasing a somewhat more complete version of the rules?
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)23:27 No.16448664
And OP returns triumphant. Ok everyone, clearly we've all had a lot of discussion, I'm glad to see that. To start, let's tackle the biggest point.

    >OP, once this quest is completed will you be making an updated version of the rules?

Absolutely! This test has shown me so many things. Namely, skill points need to scale, really really hard. Secondly, negating 10's is a big fucking deal, and lastly, people like the Determination mechanic, which I'm glad to hear.

Now, since I'm back, let's line up any IC or In universe questions that you guys have for me. Once we're all caught up, we'll proceed!
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)23:38 No.16448804

Well, I think the big thing everyone wants to do is talk with the rest of the Seven. The mission is to kill the Raikage. Obviously, Madame Mizukage meant the Third, but with this new development, A is the Raikage. Is he our target? Do we go for the kill... or do we easily dispatch him (leaving him alive) and then taunt his father into attacking us in anger and leaving the rest of the Seven to just murder the hell out of him.

Either way, we have to bring a dead Raikage back, just who's it going to be?
    >> Anonymous 09/27/11(Tue)23:40 No.16448841
In the worst case scenario, we could just kill A here and then follow them after the duel is done and attack them on their way back. Of course, I don't think we can win this duel as it is so that's even more impossible but just thought I'd throw it out there.
    >> OP 09/27/11(Tue)23:44 No.16448878

As everyone responds to A's brash challenge Asuma raises his hand, "Kiri, you get to talk amongst yourselves before stepping into the ring. The challenge is open, you can leave and satisfy the requirements of the duel." He says, his dark eyes glancing at you as he drags on his cigarette.

When you are back with your team you all gather up and speak, "Captain, do you really want to fight this monster? I know we were ready for the Third...but this guy is half his age, and he comes off just as strong to my senses." Tetsuo says hesitantly as he looks over your shoulder at the grinning A. Yuki looks at you with concern as well, "I'm not sure what Lady Mizukage wants, does she want the Raikage dead, or does she want the CURRENT Raikage dead? We can't sent a messenger quickly enough and Kaji is on a black ops mission and is well beyond our range." She says as Waraji crosses his arms, "I think you should kick..." He pauses, breathes in and then out, "I think you should try to figure out a way to maneuver A into giving the fight back to his father. I know A's type, he wanted to fight in his father's stead. I can see it in his eyes, he is happy, he's gotten just what he wants." Waraji says as he nods. Suddenly Gendo's eyes widen as he speaks, "Captain, I have...an idea." He said and uses the Battlemind. "If we kill A we can probably encourage the Raikage to a fight against us, saying that his stand-in wasn't enough. He'll be too brash to decline."
    >> Someone else. 09/27/11(Tue)23:49 No.16448929

I think we should try and get the Third back in the ring. It appears he is the opponent we have a better chance of soloing and we've come up with plenty of jabs to egg him on. It would not be hard to get A to attack us brashly afterwards, when we would have the support of the Seven and maybe even some Leaf.

And stop suggesting we not kill someone, seriously. We aren't going to make political friends with anyone from this family, we killed their mother and are on a mission to kill their Father/Brother. If you like friends, look towards the next Raikage, and other people we aren't currently trying to destroy.

I say this aggressively, but really I am one more likely to try and make friends than enemies, so if you really think it's possible please elaborate.

Our excuse can be that we were only authorized to risk our own life; we do not have the right to risk the lives of our subordinates in what is supposed to be a private duel.
Our real reason, of course, is that A and B are tag-team experts, and we have nowhere near that level of teamwork yet.
