"What? Can you really see, Gabe?" Hugh asks, this seeming to throw him a loop moreso than your having a father. He takes one look at you, and sees it immediately. "Your eyes, they're moving..."

"Do not play games with my family!" Michael shouts, making a stabbing motion at the Don with his finger.

"Please. They weren't your family until just recently. They could've been any other statue on a church three months ago, and you wouldn't have cared any less if they'd all smashed on the ground that night!" The Don shouts back, his head low and his arms out wide at the last exclamation. "Neither would they have, for that matter! It was all because of me, I sent my son there that night, he lured one away, hell, the boy even died so that yours might have a modicum of morality." He straightens up, looking at you, Hugh, and Michael spitefully. "I even taught him how harsh the world could be, so that no one would take advantage of him. And the only thing you can see is that you didn't find them sooner."

Michael glares at the Don, twisting his head to look back at you.

Feel our face. I imagine growing used to never seeing again has made us very emotional at our sudden sight.

"You-...you take my sight as some petty...and you give it back like some kind of joke? You are far more sadistic that I had taken you for..." Shake our head. "I can see why the others were so afraid of you to begin with."

Also, I'll be posting slow as well; I'm chilling on the /tg/ minecraft server. :P

You run your hands across your face, seeing each finger almost for the first time again. It feels the same, though your touch still feels more sensitive than it used to be.

"You-... you take my sight as some petty... and you give it back like some kind of joke? You are far more sadistic that I had taken you for..." You shake your head. "I can see why the others were so afraid of you to begin with."

"Not a joke. To toughen you up." The Don explains, his fingers pinching the air. "Life is nothing without hardship. Imagine, after your friend Jerry died, how much you learned. All through strife, death, and horror." He points over at you. "I did use you, in a very limited sense. But are you not better for it? If your father had met you three months ago, you would have hardly been a good conversation partner, let alone capable of fighting off an experienced magician or her minions!" He points at the wall, where the Madame is still sitting. "Now, Renee and the others? They've had their share of hardship and pain. But they're better for it. Would you rather live in ignorance? Or would you rather be capable, understand the preciousness of life, and know who your enemies are?"

The Don smiles at this last part. "Would you rather I had shot you down after Jerry fell?"

No amount of words can express our frustration right now.

    "You~..."

    "But..."

    Why-...I-"

A conglomeration of doubt, confusion, and anger.

If the Don did this for us, we should be thanking him. We met our Dad, got some good friends, and even learned a thing or two about the world.

However, what he did to set that in motion: indirectly kill Jerry, take our sight, and all-around put the innocent in harm's way? Unforgivable.

"No...no...no!" Point at him. "If I actually had the choice, I'd stay up there at that cathedral for the rest of my days, but the reason I stand here is because of you. Hugh and I, Father, Renee and the others; they live in constant fear. If-...if Jerry..."

    Shake our head.

"I may have just started to think beyond some card games, but I understand you for what you are: self-serving. We're just another pawn to you..."

    "You~..." You point at him.

    "But..."

"Why-...I-" You look down at your hands. He took your sight, but he claims it was for your own good. You have no doubt that you are stronger than you were, but...

"No...no...no!" You point at him. "If I actually had the choice, I'd stay up there at that cathedral for the rest of my days, but the reason I stand here is because of you. Hugh and I, Father, Renee and the others; they live in constant fear. If-...if Jerry..." You shake your head.

"I may have just started to think beyond some card games, but I understand you for what you are: self-serving. We're just another pawn to you..."

"No one is altruistic in this world, Gabriel." The Don swings his hips. "Not Renee, not me, not even your old man. I mean, he may get over emotional, but have you wondered why he made you?"

"You shut your mouth, Malone!" Michael hisses. "You have no right..."

    "No one?"

    Think a moment.

"Then why am I here, Malone? What have I to gain by dying?"

"No one?" You think for a moment.

"Then why am I here, Malone? What have I to gain by dying?"

"Is that what you came here to do? I don't think so." Malone continues. "It's never been about death. It's about your life. What you do with it. And denying others their ability to mess up your life, like your old man here."

"Stop it! You test my patience-" Michael starts.

"Relax, stony. I just have to have a little fun with you, is all." Malone says. "Your boy's asking the impossible questions. Still think I did a bad thing?"

The older gargoyle seems to have his resolve shaken for a moment, looking back and forth between the two of you.

I'm not entirely sure where to proceed from here. Killing him is out of the question and locking up a magic-wielding egomaniac is a lot harder than it sounds.

I'm actually thinking that we should sock this guy once in the face...yeah, let's do that. If we manage to actually hit him, raise our fist for another strike, then stop.

"...I don't care what your motive is. I don't care if you think you're getting some servant, pleasure, or power out of this. I don't care if there's an army awaiting me when I leave. Get out of my sight..."

That's all assuming we manage to hit him.

You start towards the Don, who chuckles.

"Oh come now, violence? Didn't you learn that violence can only lead to death? Like my son? Like Jerry? I gave you a sample of what violence could do while your regeneration took over for the damaged eye: How did it feel to be blind? The pain in the front of your head?"

You step past Fredrick, who is rooting around in the wall looking for the Madame. looking straight at the Don.

"I mean, you've got a loving father now, and your oath against killing is intact. Don't screw it up now!" He stops, putting his hand to his chin. "Although, I mean, imagine the other bad people like me you could stop. Permanently. Sure, you'd feel bad for a bit, but your pop would be a hypocrite if he disowned you again."

Michael doesn't say anything, though Hugh does.

"What does he mean, erm. Michael?"

"I mean he done a bad thing." Malone says in a mocking tone. "Well, one is a big understatement. You might say that what Gabe wants to do to me, what he did to my boy, he's an expert at. He's killed again, and again, and again, because-"

Malone, a man in love with his own voice, doesn't stop talking voluntarily. And though you wanted to hit him hard enough to break his jaw, you had only just set foot about ten feet or so in front of him.

The mafioso's body creaks forwards as a sickening snap sounds, and he looks down to see a slender wedge of stone sticking out of his chest, like a bloody pyramid. He grunts, blood running down from the edge of one lip to his chin as he tries to pull it out. You can see the blade of a lengthy sword, sculpted from stone, sticking out of the brick wall about fifteen feet behind him, seemingly one solid piece. Malone looks over at Michael in dismay as you watch the light leave his eyes.

"If I've killed so many, then what's one more?" Michael hisses, his eyes red with hatred and his right arm extended, the palm out. With a firm twist, the sword slides back into the wall, slowly. Malone falls to the ground, his body limp, and his limbs curled in, like those of a child going to sleep.

"W-...what did you do?!" You say, turning to Michael.

He looks at you, his features softening once more, the anger leaving his eyes. "He was an evil man, you said it yourself, Gabriel!" He turns to look at Hugh, who seems just as shocked as you are. "He hurt you both, and the more I thought about it, the more-" He clenches his fist, looking over at you once again, his expression stern. "You boys are young, you don't have a lot of blood on your hands. I didn't... I didn't want you doing something you'd regret."

"You... You didn't have to kill him!" You shout at him.

"I was just trying-" Michael says, his eyes somewhat sorrowful.

"I-...Why? Haven't you had enough blood-shed?! Did you really need to be like him!?" You ask him, striding back over to him as you throw up your hands.

"Is that what you think?" The older gargoyle's voice cracks as a tear streams down his cheek. "That I'm like he was? Just another person who will torture and abuse you?" He looks over at both you and Hugh, and you can see that your words hurt him far more than Malone's death. His face is a mask of sorrow, with tears flowing freely from his eyes. "I didn't want him to- I didn't- I can't let you make the mistakes I have!"

    "No...that's not what I meant..."

Comfort time. If there's anything we learned about living on top of a church forever other than the line of every Noir movie from 1947 and beyond, it's how much a good talk can relieve and heal.

"What...what did you do? That was so horrible, I mean."

    Listen to his story.

"...I too killed a man. It was horrible what I did. His pleas as I..."

    Stop for a moment.

"Something that I'm not proud of...but if you just keep killing the next threat in your way, it'll never stop. Ever. There's bound to be another Don to take his place; will you just strike him down as well?"

Hugh has remained awfully silent for this dramatic engagement. Put on his best mock John Wayne impression.

"Well, little lady; Ole' Peacock Bill wanted your land. He sowed blood to try n' get it, so he's gonna reap it. But not me; no, I'm gonna sow somethin' pretty. Like a flower."

"No... that's not what I meant..." You say, the anger leaving your voice. Michael still sobs as he looks over at you. "What... what did you do? That was so horrible, I mean."

Michael looks down at the ground, remaining silent for a few moments. He looks back up at you.

"I originally was brought into this world in a place far, far away from here, called Hesse, in a country today called Germany. But when I was summoned, I was taught that I was brought into der Heiliges Römisches Reich." He says this foreign phrase with a perfect German accent. "I was told that I was to cleanse the demons of the Reich. And they taught me to kill their enemies. They used magic to cover it up." He pauses. "I don't know how many humans I've killed. But I managed to flee, to here. I stayed onboard a ship with a magician who'd fled to escape persecution. And I could tell she'd be invaluable. So, anyone who came against her, I killed them as well." He looks at you, guilt evident on his face. "And when I helped her make you, I told her we would raise you all. I told myself I would change." He turns away from you, walking towards the wall. "But, then, she... All the men I'd killed, they had friends who wanted revenge."

"...I too killed a man. It was horrible what I did. His pleas as I..." You stop for a moment. "Something that I'm not proud of... but if you just keep killing the next threat in your way, it'll never stop. Ever. There's bound to be another Don to take his place; will you just strike him down as well?"

Michael turns back to you, his mouth open, but no answer comes from it.

Hugh puts an arm around him, and says in his best John Wayne impression: "Well, little lady; Ole' Peacock Bill wanted your land. He sowed blood to try n' get it, so he's gonna reap it. But not me; no, I'm gonna sow somethin' pretty. Like a flower."

Michael grabs Hugh by the shoulder, and embraces him tightly, sobbing quietly. "I... I don't know how else I can protect anyone! I just..." He breaks down further, crying more openly. "Please, please don't be afraid of me. I just don't want you to go away."

"Mister, everybody dies sometime." Renee says, cooly.

    His body isn't there.

"Now? Well, it seems that when I try and remain a spectator, you won't let me. So, we have a problem." The voice echoes. "And if there's anything MacGregor taught me, it was that letting your problems sit about like old fish simply won't do."

"Malone, I have seen your actions and heard of your intentions. But I must know: why? Why all this?" You ask him.

"Curiosity." Malone's voice states simply. "I'm not a fan of Howard Philips Lovecraft for his say on the matter: 'Things man was not meant to know'. A man should learn as much as he can. And you, Gabriel, are not human. We know very little about you. So, I decided to see how you would behave in various situations. The way you bonded with the priest, the way you conveyed to Hugh without words what death was- All so nearly human it made me wonder." The voice hangs in the air for a moment, before Malone continues. "And even now, you and your kind pique my curiosity. Even now, I can wonder how you'd react to any number of things.

"Just now, I'm wondering how you'll act when the fine owner of this place is roused from her coma, and starts to fight for real. Aren't you interested too?"

With that, I'm heading out as well. To sleep and justice! And more dramatic awesome next week.

By the way, both games may be getting moved. Hopefully just starting and ending earlier. But to different days? It's possible. I may discuss it in KSQ next week once I find out what my schedule is.
