402 KB IRONHEARTS War Room: Theatre Summary IronCommand !SjkHabNIL2 08/21/11(Sun)18:32 No.16016834
    September 24th , 565th Year of Terra.

The airfields of Albane were clear of scorch marks and bodies. And the Voss soldiers were even given graves in the fields not so far off. This was it, I thought.

This is when things were ought to change. From all the corners of the front all the irregular forces had gathered along with the main armies Some would even say that even Unit Zero would show. Vanders' Rolling thunders, the Stilemar Advance, and even Class 56 have gathered at the staging area where our dear Commander was to make an appearance at the dusted Hangar. Everyone left not a speck of black.

The meeting was set for day, but even this didn't stop our more irregular units. Who managed to gather at the darker corners of the hanger.

" Greetings again everyone. Today, we will talk about the Voss "

As of a few weeks ago, we have gathered intelligence of an unending fighting force that is beginning to march through the roads that , up to now, we've been slowly winning.

A 2nd wave of forces have begun making its push towards the heart of Ragnyll, and are regrouping at our borders as we speak. This counter offensive was inevitable, but was still at a size and strength that is hard to imagine.

To begin, the Voss 2nd Army has adopted an age old strategem of Terror that they have honed and adopted when they were expanding:

    Blood and Thunder.

Due to the sheer size of this force, it will be no surprise that they can hit any and all fronts that we have fought. While still have local reinforcements at the ready. On top of this, they've begun utilizing tweaks to their war-machine to further adopt their use of undead forces.

Their assault infantry has strayed from the way of the rifle perhaps and has favored saturation fire over accuracy. The unnecessary armor they carry is due most in part to their secondary to to become Skeletal Shocktroopers even after dying once.

Take note: A Voss corpse still poses a threat.

Using their Nihilanism sorcery, Their trained practitioners are capable of playing with the concept of absence and divert and subvert to a corruption of its existence.

It is said that terror is the waning of the spirit,
and death an absence of life. Somehow this dark logic is what powers a small yet integral part of their machine.

With enough deaths, and terror on the field, more monstrosities turn up. In turn more terror gets generated, we believe this abstraction of human emotion is what is quantifiably allowing the Voss to continue fielding troop turned monsters indefinitely.

Willhelm visibly cringes at the sheer amount of experimentation it must have taken for the Voss to perfect this method.

"So we kill their men, which just turns them into monsters, so they get back up for us to kill again...This is going to get real ugly real fast unless we have an answer to their philosophical magic."

A list of encountered infantry forces so far according to surviving accounts.

It is believed that for every Voss basic unit, there exists an undead counterpart, and an elite veteran who maintains their status by surviving and retaining kills. There are also paranormal conversions of those units that we can't seem to place other than its own monstrous category

The Voss have honed their methods around the concept of Total war. No degree or middle ground exists for them. As such they are /too/ good at battles of attrition, attacking on Spiritual, Psychological and physical planes all at once but hardly a defense exists for their own machinations save for a bigger one.

If a Voss suffers a loss, or if they kill an opponnent, it increases the amount of "Terror" on the field but not so much to sustain or propagate their magic. But enough to economically recycle troops back into circulation. Or call upron for new bodies.

I suppose I can help with that.

" These Voss men may not believe in our might Beati , but they definitely believe in death. Life, like death is a part. Passing on, and moving on to great eternity is a right reserved for every living thing with a soul. It is my belief that should a man fall, he must be helped up on the right direction. The Voss feed on all the bad things, the worst things and transform that rage to send men back from the abyss as if they were doing them a favor "

    >Infantry2: New Infantry Units, and Officers. Exp can be pooled to train recruits. And foreign allied unit types can be fielded.

If I may be so bold as to interject:

Something getting riddled with bullets will not get up again, if they are large enough and there are enough of them. They will leave permanent cavities as they pass through the body and will damage vital parts of the body, possibly removing limbs as well. Thus, enough damage and it isn't getting back up again.

A grenade would suffice with a direct hit as well, obliterating the body and leaving nothing left for the necromancer to animate.

Soapworth was reclining in his chair, watching the time go by and trying to figure how deal with the information he discovered. After they captured the airship, Soapworth had scoured the place looking for Voss intelligence documents and blueprints to their armor corps. The latter of which revealed something very troubling. Whoever this "O" character was, he had his hands in designing nearly every piece of Vossian engineering that Soapworth could find. My gatlings are at rating 8 with my pilot skill, and deal 2 damage per hit. So significantly more death and destruction than that on average.

With 56 shots, on average I'll hit 44 or 45 times, and most infantry will die in one shot, two if they're really tough. Dullahans are the only ones that can survive more due to their armor. Well, except for skeletons, they're immune to bullets.

If I stick with Striders I'll see if I can get incendiary ammo as a means to burn the bodies as I kill them.

while corpses are both tempermental and rent useless as a structural frame, Nihilanism reconstitutes the dead and repairs what rough edges there maybe. In fact it is because of these empty spaces that the corrupting power is allowed to fill. When exposed to divine forces, the fallacies of their existence is acknowledged and the dark presence is wiped clean.

Though if one must need to be sure, corpse disposal can be ensured with the follwing steps:
    > Incineration
    > Explosives
    > Crushing [simply stepping on the body, while considered disrespectful and degrading is effective]
    > Consecration [As Father Zwei has instructed]
    > Burying
    > And aquatic submersion. [Somehow water locks corpses from rising up]

Wolf training originated and flourished under the police training programs that the Vosskon empire had adopted for anti-rebel, and anti-crime measures in urban environments. While armed forces were in short supply to patrol the streets of newly liberated Vosskon territory, police departments had to make do with notoriously well coordinated agents that would fullfill the roles of a handful of soldiers. The extended comradeship has sharpened squads to act as one unit, gaining an intuitive sense of where the other one is at all times. A talent comparable to esp. and coveted by many special tasks forces.

Mmm, again, I'm going to hold off on upgrades until I see the new armor units cranked out. However, I do have ideas for the alt loadouts and aerial vehicle.

The aerial vehicle, it's a tossup between a a light gunship/transport that can provide some air support as well as transport some infantry that can provide additional firepower, like a flying bunker. Either that or a dedicated gunship focusing on hitting ground targets.

For Mobile Artillery, we can give them a revolver type grenade launcher. Increases their ammo capacity and allows them to double tap at the cost of accuracy.

For Vanguards, swap out their sword and shield for a two-hander, like a mace or greatsword. Obviously, increased attack power in return for reduced defense.

Yes but the slugger is an apple to the orange that is the rifle+smg it feel different.

What you are proposing are just strapping more things to the same thing, also that sword is more of an advantage to the caster than it is to the Vanguard.
    >> [RBBT][P2-Ss1]Pfc. Winters !u/EYfo0o8s 08/21/11(Sun)23:42 No.16019975
For alt loadouts, I don't have much to say aside from Pilots and Vanguards.

As a pilot myself, I know that we're almost always stuck inside a vehicle, so we don't get much use out of our weapons either way. As cool as an alt load for pilots might be, I'd say another class would get more use out of it.

For the aggressive Vanguard who wants to forgo all defense in favor of killing things faster; The Claymore. Replaces both the Shield and the Sword, 3 damage. Has two modes of attack, a slash and a thrust. The Slash has the cleave special effect, which allows it to strike through multiple targets with one attack, granted that attack kills the first target. The thrust loses the cleave special, but gains AP.

    Updates are now in processing.

    Next is the upcoming assault.
The Voss are staging a massive push to stop our efforts and tie them up once and for all. After many strings of losses, they've decided once too many was enough. This is a golden oppurtunity as they will work to retake us through the same roads they took. However at their current size and disposition taking them down all at once will require coordination. We will set an ambush. And set their forces to disarray. Should we succeed, we push them back to the borders. Should we fail one assault, they will move onto the next front before finally reaching us. Note that it would be impossible to take them down with the first line of defense, so retreating is an option. Our objective is to wittle them down to such a staggeringly low number that offense will no longer be an option.

They will no doubt invade from all directions and solidify for our first Contact. The question is where to set the stage.

Snipers at the first ambush, heavier armor closer to base? We whittle down the infantry, and we keep withdrawing again and again till we get them up to the base.

In the mean time we should pre-sight the area for mortar fire, I believe? Possibly rig traps to cause delays, such as rock slides or other such things.

How much preparation time are we looking at?
Preparations should include pre-laid arrays and barriers meant to funnel advancing Voss forces as well as a plethora of traps/stopping measures..

5-Finger would be great if we can use Earth magic to bottleneck the advance with high cliff flanks.
-proper elevated battlements to neutralize their typical melee warfighters
-Demo pack the tops for landslides/Minefields
-Tank traps/Barbwire to funnel troops and break up the advance.
-sight in airstrikes and artillery as they advance to thin out troops.

As for fallback we'll need transport ready for escape/hit-and-run. Flyers or RigCycles.

It was only a massacre cause we were taken by a Preemptive strike. With time to set up, we have the advantage. We have the upper hand, we can create cover, force bottlenecks, lay traps, and ultimately have the advantage. It takes 3 attackers to silence one defender because of proper defenses and preparations. We could win in that valley.

Ok, in that case, I propose that Kolstec should be our last line of defense. It's our industrial heartland and home of what the Voss really want, our Ibonyte. Both Solstice and Albane's resources (the planes and casters), as well as civilians can be moved. Kolstec's mines and production facilities cannot.

Are even earlier battlefields like Stilemar, Norwood, and Sylvia in the line of advance as well?

Once we get that aerial armor in, I should be able to use it to thin them out on the approach. Striders are agile, but they're not that great at hit-and-run against a determined enemy. If the gunships have missiles, I'll make sure those Voss bastards stay dead once I kill them.

Me? Really? Well gee, I'm downright honored, Lieutenant. I won't let you down.

    XP So far:

6xp Wassau (10 base -4 for dead missionaries)
    12xp Albane Airfield night 1&2
    11 Kills/assists
    1 Destruction

    30xp total

Either getting Monkey aspect and increasing range by 1, or Salamander with 1 extra action. Monkey's reloading and auto-climbing and stealing seems really useful, but I'm thinking with the advent of Voss Firetanks it might be prudent to pick up the fire immunity. Incendiary grenades would be great for making sure those corpses stay down too. Oh, say, could I make smoke grenades incendiary? Like a portable firestorm. If so that's what I'm taking, because that sounds like the coolest thing ever.

With ourselves on the defensive side this time, Five-Fingers will still be hell, I think, but it'll still be easier than what you guys saw before. With air support and new, advanced armor tech, we should be able to hold them off pretty well even with our comparatively small numbers.

    As I grasp it, Willhelm:

Voss learned something terrible was coming down the pipe, and started researching it. If we believe Oderkonn, they discovered it BEFORE the Voss/Ragnyll split, and have been working on a solution.
Oderkonn's the transferred conscious of some old Voss scientist into a clone of himself.
The Voss started the War with us to drive us just as crazy and dark as them, and get us ready for a war.

So, if I HAD to make a wager, the whole thing goes back to the Split: The guys who would become Voss found out about something terrible, and told those who would would become Ragnyll. Ragnyll laughed it off or covered it up, so Voss had to instigate a Shadow War to FORCE their brother nation to ready themselves for the coming conflict.

SO Oderkonn gave us blueprints because he thougth we'd need them, Helena turned Rip so we could spawn Vamps, and now that the Big thing's coming, they both run home, prompting us, the most decorated unit in the Ragnyllian military, into pursuit, where they will no doubt reveal the crushing truth of what is to come, to have us as spokespeople to the rest of Ragnyll.

That last bit's just a guess, though.

Aeon's too clear, and assuming the Voss are as good at Manipulating us as this, then we have to assume that most of the battles were manipulation.

In our second-to-last battle, the Voss got us to show that we're willing to kill our own countrymen if they cross the line, "proving" our dedication to the Aeons. They had us secure the mines, gaining us Clovis support. I'd put money that the Voss are trying to sway Ifram right now.

They're arranging the entire Continent to fight something. And I don't like that they think they need the ability to recycle their men to succeed.

Or Ifram is the enemy, and Voss is trying to engineer a four on one war.

"This.. All of this must have to do with our common descent, the Valknyr, the peoples from whom we both originated. Ev'ry Ragnyllian learns the legends in school. The Voss know something, of the Valknyr, the shared lineage of our peoples and the Blackblood, the Iron Heart, the Ibonyte."

Laying on the ground with his insides exposed, Alphonse coughs up not a small amount of blood.
"Call me a monster if you like, there you are with four arms, gold-nitro blood. A sack of flesh sewn over armor. You aren't human, and haven't been since Oderkonn took needle and knife to you. You allow Rip to stay despite his damned state, and only moved against ME when I became a threat to your position. We won't be the first in Hellghast to resort to this... do you really think Aeon would accept us? After they're done, you'll all be put to the flame and your ashes scattered. I may rot in hell, but you all won't be far behind!"

By now, Alphonse's gaping wound seems to be mostly closed, his nearby apprentice far worse off than a few seconds ago. As the arrays near him, and even Willhelm began to momentarily glow, the Inquisitor's armor begian to melt with her inside as Alphonse sank into the ground and was gone.

"Ah, Good, someone to replace our ex-biomancer."

Casters are the magical muscle of the Ragnyllian army, applying their talent to change the battlefield.

Casters draw upon the elements, using special circles called arrays (See >>16018991)

Casters are given 5 Ibonyte crystals, which act as magical ammo. Casters who posess an aspect can cast their aspect's element without crystals if there is enough of the element present. (the exception to that being fire, as the Wyrm aspect means you count as plenty of fire.)

When casting a spell, you have 3 basic options, Cast Ray, Cast Zone, and Cast on Target.
Rays are a line-shaped spell that originates from either you, or another array. These are generally attacks, but some can be used for other purposes (Creating a long trench for example)
Zones affect all units who pass through an affected hex, and you roll one die for every hex affected. be warned, this reduces the rating for every hex beyond the first, and backlash from failed spells wounds casters.
Casting on a target is the least common method, and I can only think of one instance to date, which was me casting a repair spell (Fire+Earth=Iron) on Gunther's tank.

    Well ye got your basics.
    Air, Fire, Water, Earth
    Then your Nonstandard.
Life, Death (Nobody has figured out how to make one yet.) Plants

Then you have your combos. These elements are not arrayed directly, you combine the powers of two or more elements already arrayed on the field to create them.

Iron, my personal favorite, is made of Earth/Fire
Magma spells are made with Fire/Earth (Fire being dominant in this case)
    Storm being Air/Water
    Mud/Clay being Earth/Water

And, as command put it, if you're clever boots enough, you can get pretty creative with combo elements.

Spells do what you write them to do, along the lines of an element's properties. Fire spells don't heal, for example, and Water spells don't create Stone Golems. an acceptable fire spell would be formatted as such.

    Casting Spell: Fire
Tapping: nearest Fire Array (assumign there is one, or you count as one, in my case)
    Target: Nearest enemy unit
Effect: Immolates nearest enemy unit, dealing damage every round until they spend an action to extinguish.

Damage or healing strength is determined by the number of arrays you tap, and any bonuses you have purchased.

Aspects are SUPER UPGRADES that apply to you no matter what gear you pack, unlike normal 10 point upgrades which are class specific. In order to purchase an aspect, you must spend some amount of time as the class that has access to it.

For example, Lankest, normally an Engineer, did a stint as a Vanguard to pick up their Lion aspect, to improve his melee and HP.

    List of Aspects incoming.

Thankfully, we now have the option to pool exp to train recruits, so we can get you up to sunflower lickedy split if everyone tosses the extraneous point or two. of course, that is if you WANT to get the sunflower aspect. if someone else on the team had the Pig aspect, it turns me into a complete powerhouse, as my arrays double in power. turn 1 I can have 4 arrays to draw upon.

    Sparkly types are sparkly types.
They make shiny zip'bangs crackle and spark outta'thin air.
They're jus'like any other of the types, like slashy types, big types, sneaky types.

Wilhelm looks over the new caster's shoulder as she writes.

"Forgot to carry a 2 over there...Oh, and lemme see that for a sec."
Willhelm produces a handful of charcoal, and begins writing down a spell on a blank page of Cecilia's book. It details the process for the remote placement of arrays via magic.

    >Casting Spell: [Insert element here]
    >Tapping: Any one array
    >Target: any 1 unoccupied hex, more than 6 hexes from another array
    >Effect: Create [Element] array at target location

Cecilia adjusts her glasses as she goes over the forumla. "I... didn't think that was even possible. I can see how this would be useful indeed. We would need to be careful to not leapfrog the arrays into Enemy terrain where they could be stolen."

Closing her book, she glances up at Willhelm. "And this can be bounced off of you, correct? With you a walking array and all?"

"Yeah, It can. You'll need to use the fire variant, and it'll consume Ibonyte for you where it wouldn't for me. I also need to allow it. The last time someone borrowed my fire, it caused an international incident. So only during battle, and only at the enemy."

"Even so, and I'm just thinking from a tactical point of view, that would be of great use to you - it would give you additional fire arrays to tap, and once I get a bit more experienced with battle, each array I bounce off you will be effectively two. It's a perfect combination to set up a devastating strike against the Voss." Cecilia sounds almost gleeful as she reopens the book and sketches out a diagram of how it would work. before passing the book back to Willhelm.

"And yes. I'll try to bear that in mind, Willhelm. Dare I ask what Iceval did to earn your ire?"

"Drunken bastard gave me this dead-end promotion."
    Willhelm looks over her additions.
"Neat idea, but once you've tapped my array and created your own somewhere else, you no longer need to tap mine unless you're going for some serious firepower, which is my job, no pun intended."

"Also, you'll want to limit the usage of your spells to where you know they will have deadly effect. You only get five of those bad boys per deployment, that's it, short of beating up other casters for their lunch money. Wait a while, you'll figure out the stuff they don't teach you in school, and refine your spellcraft so you can get more of them off per a given time."

"Charmed. Theoretically you are correct, mobility helps. Anyone can draw an array." he drags his heel and spins, drawing a circle in the dirt around him, giving three swift scuffs to complete the array

"Simple as that. Also, I hope you last longer than the last pilot who thought his bike could outrun a tank shell. No offense, but as a Caster I prefer to ride in style, if at all." He jerks a thumb over to the hangar where Isara, Capt. Gunther's Gryphon tank is being spitshined by rookie pilots, and possibly having a disco ball installed in the cockpit.

Turning to Jackson, "I must admit, I've never been in a Rig Cycle before, but the idea is intriguing."
