You are a strange creature, capable of taking over other lifeforms to serve as your vessel. Your current host, Jack Winters, was unbeknownst to you a drug addict, and overdosed on speedball. To survive, you bonded with him, but this damaged you, leaving you separated from the bodysnatcher command structure. An individual by accident, you are hunted by the cyborg aliens, the forces guided by the illuminati called the Wise, and your own kin.

The battle is on the way, and Cath, while very efficient and deadly, seems to have reverted to the "monster" persona. Only a minute has passed since you engaged your enemies, and two Overseers have already fallen, but a Dragon has been sent to deal with you.

    Your known abilities are:
    - reinforcing your muscle and bone tissue, making you several times stronger, faster and tougher
    - growing weapons from your arms, limited to one on each arm in any combination:a hooked, double edged blade on your forearm, claws, a spike that springs out from your wrist underneath your palm or launchable bone spikes
    - hardening your skin into thick, segmented bone plate armor resistant to heat and energy weapons, and growing a membrane under your skin, that contains fluid that hardens on impact
    - absorbing ingested organic material, that you can use to increase muscle and bone density(animal tissue is the most effective)
    - the ability to call forth your host's memories, skills and knowledge
    - altering your appearance, includin skin\hair\eye colour, facial features, height, build, and gender, though the more elaborate the change is, the more time and effort it takes.
    - producing almost any kind of drug, poison or acid in liquid form, including sedatives, that you can deliver either at high pressure from an opening that can be created anywhere on your body, or through the wristspike.
    - emitting pheromones that influence humans
    - sensing the mind-link of bodysnatchers
    - enhanced senses, capable of switching to different spectrums (infravision, ultrasound, noise filtering, etc.)
    - fiber-optic nervous system, allowing you to ignore pain to some extent, and speeding up your reflexes by orders of magnitude
    - a pair of leathery wings growing from your shoulder blades, with a bio-fuel fed jet system underneath it, allowing you extremely fast aerial movement
    - superhuman sense of balance
    - four combat tentacles

    Mutations:
    -Perfect Predator
Noise-level sense, body better optimised for stealth, invisible to digital sensors and leaves no scent
    -Monstrous Strength
Increased strength, speed, and leaping distance

The battle is on the way, and Cath, while very efficient and deadly, seems to have reverted to the "monster" persona. Only a minute has passed since you engaged your enemies, and two Overseers have already fallen, but a Dragon has been sent to deal with you.

You look at the creature hurtling at you, the visor displaying a dizzying array of information. Apparently, it's top speed is Mach 3, and it's capable of bone spike, flame, poison, and sonic attacks, and two more, their icons strange. One displays an explosion with tiny dots in it, while the other one has curvy lines like roots, whith similar dots on it. Their titles say S-EX and S-ENT, respectively.

The line drawn by th smart-link point unwaveringly at the Dragon, and you feel a strange disconnect to the situation, the incoming bodysnatcher outflying the sound of it's jets, appering to be tiny on the horizon. A quickly flashing sign reminds you that you have command over twelve KP-21s half a click south of you, still cloaked. It seems that Wise command has also assigned you three cruise missiles, and two LEDS, or fun packs as the techies called them.

The Dragon arrives at your current location in a little less than four seconds.
    Wat do?

    Mary-Sue Quest: The Not-Snatching-any-Bodying

Honestly, why would you start a quest based on SNATCHAN THE BODIES, then snatch a JUNKY and make him a pimped-out killdroid?

This shit was stupid 15 installations ago, and it's stupid now.

S-EX probably means "spikes - explosive". I have no idea what S-ENT stands for.
We have our gun and Cath has whole arsenal inside her (at least it seems so) but it still may be not enough. I mean, holy shit, that thing is big as eight-wheeler, armored, and still moves with speed rivaling our own, if not faster.
Distract it, then call KP's for help.

You press a button on the visor, designating the Dragon as a target for the KP-21s. Opening fire on it, you see Cath doing the same, shells and energy projectiles streaming towards it. It bobs and weaves, the distance and it's speed more than enough to avoid all of the incoming fire, and you leap to the side as it soars towards you, letting loose a barrage of bone spikes the size of your arm that tear up the roof. It continues on it's path, turning around a few hundred meters behind you to strafe you again. A moment after it's shadow passes over you, the roar of it's jets lagging after it fills the air, louder than anything you have ever heard before.

You jump over the edge of the building, scrambling for cover, and see Catherine doing the same. Settling on an alley, you reach it just in time to avoid the next barrage, this time accompanied by the globs of fiery material it spits out.

It turns around for another stafing run, when the VTOLs de-cloak, and let loose on it with their chainguns and missiles, the latter a weapon that you haven't seen them equiped with.

The Dragon roars in defiance, and shakes the missiles by ducking into the streets. Dissapearing for a second, it emerges behind them, shredding two with bone spikes, engulfing one in flames, and trailing some kind of brown dust over three that comes from slits on it's side and stomach. The ones covered by it seem to sprout pale white vines or roots all over, the strange growth blocking the rotors less than half a second after it first becomes visible.
The remaining aircrafts retaliate, the creature now unable to dodge them so easily, and two of the missiles galnce it, enough to send it crashing into the ground. The bodysnatcher stands, six legs working to lift it's mass, and four tentacles grow from it's back, shivering into the form of the sonic drums. Eight eyes glow with malice and rage as it's head snaps toward you.

    Wat do?

He noticed us. Good. Keep his attention on us, dodge his attacks, dance around him, shoot him. That should give Cath an opening. Then, when it turns its attention to her, jump on its head and just punch it as hard as we can.

Raising your cannon, you fire a short burst at it, ripping fist sized chunks out of it's shoulder, one of the wings on it's back hanging limply in tatters on it's side. The Dragon screams in pain, and the shockwave from the large drums only hits the ground you stood on a moment ago. It turns, raising two more tentacles, striking at you in alternate with sound and bone, missing you only by inches each time as you jump from cover to cover.

You dodge again and again, and are forced up to a balcony on the side of an apartment building, when Cath appears from the side, her hands twisted into the barrels of energy lances. With apparent manic glee she shoots at the bodysnatcher, the crackling rays cutting it's middle pair of legs off, the flesh sizzling as the heat cauterises the wounds.

It turns back, only to see that she has disappeared, and you land on it as it cranes it neck trying to catch sight of her. You lift your hand, then hammer a fist into it's head, striking with enough force to slam it into the ground. It's legs claw at the concrete below, trying to find enough purchase to lift it back up, only to be struck down four more times, each blow stronger than the last as you explore the new limits of your strength. It shudders and collapses, and you jump back off, taking your weapon off a car's hood where you placed it when you saw Cath, and send shell after shell into it's appendages, until it lies crippled and helpless on the ground.

    Wat do?

Question: how big is that thing? I assumed that it's size of eight-wheeler (I think it was mentioned in the previous thread), but now I'm not sure.

Okay, so obviously we want to absorb it. I suppose that our punches shattered armor on its head, so nothing stands in our way. Just be careful. It doesn't have limbs, but that doesn't mean it's not dangerous.

"Cath, you okay?" She appears beside you, the din of the battle hiding any sound she might have made. "My condition is satisfactory, yes." You flinch back a little, startled, the grin. "Great. Could you see if the downed crafts have any survivors?" She tilts her head quizzically, then nods. "Of course." She heads off towards the smouldering debris of the VTOLs, and you have to shout after her. "Real nice work, by the way. Saved my bacon." She turns for a moment, eyes serious and unblinking. "The same to you."

Shaking your head, you step towards the Dragon, and it tries to bite you, forcing you to lean back a little to avoid it. It's jaws snap together in front of you, and you grab it's snout, slamming it against the ground a few times, grinding the pavement to dust in the process. Holding it against the concrete, you look into it's eyes and say "You done yet?" It whines, and tries to back away from you, only managing to break it's legs further. "Yeah, you're done."

Lightly jumping on it's head again, you morph the blades, and jab them into the cracks on it's armour. It tires to shake you off, but the tendrils swarming out of the bone keep you hooked to it. Finding the real creature inside, you greedily devour it, the flow of genetic material like a stream of fire inside you.

    Choose a mutation:

    -Armoured Juggernaut
Your body alters to create a multi-layered protective armour, making you a walking tank, though stripping you of some mobility while using it.

    -Protean Nature
Morphing becomes second nature, your form freely flowing between states, the energy and time required to do so significantly reduced.

    -Mental Fortress
You raise layer upon layer of protection in your mind, making you immune to all but the most powerful malicious mind-link powers.

    -Lord of the Skies
Your form adapts, granting you near unparralelled mobility and speed in the air, allwoing you to keep up with any manmade aircraft.(allows limited flight with Armoured Juggernaut)

    -Deadly Spores
You are capable of emitting spores, simply letting them fall out or delivered either by spike or blown out in a cloud. They can be poisonous, flammable, they can grow to entangle and entvine what they attach to, or they can explode like a cloud of tiny bombs.

You stumble off the carcass of the Dragon, and lie on the ground for a few seconds, breathing hard, your body quivering and shaking. Rolling over on your stomach, you push yourself up to your feet, still a bit shaky. But you can feel the change, a strange force throbbing in every fiber of your being. The blades on your forearm melt back into you, and with a small effort, you cycle through every morph you have, digital cloaking switching on and off, wings, tentacles, spikes, blades, claws forming and remoulding in the span of a second, every possible combination tried out.

Grinning, you stretch, and your flesh flows and colours as you try on faces and appearances, Jacobs, Richard, Catherine, Michael, Lee, Megan, Doctor Smith, and even Daisy standing in your place for a brief moment before you switch to the next one. The girls form is the hardest though, as you need to compress yourself to approach her size. You look down at yourself, the torn cuffs of your uniform hangin loosely from your shorter arms, the legs ina folded pile around your ankles. "Daisy? What are you doing here?"

You look up to see Cath standing a few emters in front of you, looking at you with equal amounts of suspicion and confusion. You give her an embarassed wave, the cuffs swinging left to right with the movement. "Uhm, hey Cath, it's me, Jack. Just, uh, trying out some things." You morph back to your normal form, bones creaking and skin rippling as you grow back to proper size.

Digging into the slayed Dragons memories, you come to understand that two Overseers were killed by the Wise forces at the start of the battle, leaving only two more. One is hiding from you in the kitchen of a restaurant, some seven hundred meters from here, and the other one is fleeing an armoured battallion a couple kilometers away. One Dragon was shot down by missiles, and another one is wounded and being harassed by a squadron of jets. The Hunters location is curiously absent from the information you gained.

I hope all this fighting isn't freaking you out or something." She stares at you, then averts her eyes, and sighs. "I'm fine. When there's danger it's... easy. I just let go of the wheel and the next thing I know it's over, and we won. And..." She balls up her hands into fists, and crosses her arms, still looking at the ground. "It feels good. No doubts, no concerns, just power and the rush of being faster, stronger, just plain better than my opponents." She finally looks you in the eye, and smiles sadly, raising her hands palm towards you into the air. "I'll leave the drama until we're not fighting slobbering monsters. Let's finish off these sons of bitches." She gives the dead bodysnatcher a harsh kick, and her leg sinks into the massive creatures side with a wet sound. "Awww, gimme a break." Removing her leg, she tries to get off some of the blood and slime stuck to it. "This never happens to you. Why always me? I mean, ewwww. These were nice shoes." She shurgs, and some of the cold seeps back into her eyes.

We don't need a mutation to do that. To change host we must:
    - "Untangle" ourselves from Jack's nervous system. Takes a few days, leaves us weakened.
    - Leave our old host's body, killing him or making him braindead.
    - Enter new host's body. Infection takes a few days. During that time we're weak.
    - Also, there's a possiblity that we bond with our new host differently. How that will affect us? Nobody knows. Circumstances of Jack's infection were pretty specific and almost impossible to reproduce.

As you can probably see, it's simply not worth it in our current situtiation. We don't have any real reason to do that. Remember, everybody (well, maybe expect Daisy, but she's tvelve) still thinks we're just a human with a freaky body and maybe changed personality.

A few seconds later, you land on a street, the marks of fighting evident around you in the smashed cars, broken glass and scorched walls. You walk towards the restaurant, your steps confident, but your eyes dart around, looking for any signs of trouble or a trap. As you step through the door, you feel the camouflaging net of the Overseer parting, revealing it's position. It's a jibbering mess, frightened and wounded, and you can't feel any other presence around you.

The stainless steel door separating the kitchen from the restaurant front flies in with a single kick, and bounces off the opposing wall, the bodysnatcher hiding underneath a counter flinching from the noise. It tries to pull back even further into the corner, and looks out pleadingly from behind the eyes of an acne-ridden teenage boy. "Please don't kill me. I'll do anything, just don't kill me."

Looking back, you can see that the soldiers arm multiplied in size, ending in a massive pincer of sorts that's lodged in a wall that was behind your head before you moved. It laughs, a strange sound with no amusement in it. "You're delusional. You are a sickness, a cancer that refuses to die. I will cut you out, and we will be whole again." The three of you stand, tense, waiting for the other to move first. You and Cath move at the same time, you fire the cannon and she thrusts her arms up, the skin darkening and changing into weapons. The Hunter dodges the shots, armour replacing the suit and skin, eight tentacles bursting from it's back, four with blades, two with spikes and two with sonic drums. The balded appendages strike the ground with a staccato rythm, serving as extra legs for the creature, making it faster than you anticipated. You scythe after it, keeping the gun firing as it runs, until it sprays spikes towards you. You duck to the side, realising late that it was a feint, only meant to obscure Catherine's line of fire. She steps sideways to take the shot, and is hit by the sonic attack, the air vibrating and humming around her. She screams, dropping on her knees, and the morphed energy lances turn back to normal arms.

The bodysnatcher rushes towards her, and you fire again, only one shell clipping it, tearing off a drummed tentacle. Snarling, you charge to intercept it, barely getting out of the way of the blades in time as the Hunter changes course mid-stride. It presses the attack, the remaining drum still pointed at Cath, while the spike launchers are being replaced with claws. Blocking a flashing bone sword, you step inside the range of the weapons, sending a fist into the face of your opponent. It flies, spinning from the force of the hit, but catches the wall, scrambling alongside it like a spider. Cackling, it says before leaping towards you "Is that all you have, little monster?"

You lift the cannon at the charging Hunter, looking surprised. That is, until it almost reaches within tentacle range. The four limbs rip through the harness, and you meet the creature head on with a quick flare of your jets. Bladed tentacles flash out and sever two of the bodysnatcher's while parrying the other two. Your taloned hands clap on the side of it's head, clawing deep furrows into the bone. The wall of a building cracks as you slam into it, taking advantage of the short confusion by changing the blades into claws as well, and rip out the remaining tentacles on your enemy.

"You've seen nothing yet." The armour on your forehead reshapes itself into a sharp wedge, and you headbutt the beast, it's own defenses cracking open by the force. Before you could strike the killing blow, it sends it's hands into the wall for support, and kicks out with both legs, pushing you off itself. Charging it again, you flinch back as a light grey cloud erupts from it, your senses screaming at you to avoid the poison it contains. You send bone spikes into it, the cloud dissipating after a moment, but the Hunter is nowhere to be seen.

It leaps at you again, and you catch it, tentacles ripping away the four that have regenerated on it already. Your clawed hands close on it's elbows, crushing the bones into dozens of shards while four spikes laced with sedative stab through the joints of it's armour. A stream of acid hits it's eyes, melting them almost instantly, and it screams, it's neck extending with a sickening crack. Mouth bristling with venomous fangs, it closes around your shoulder with a chomp, injecting you with poison and a substance similar to your sedatives. You hold it like that, confident that you will outlast it, until you notice that it's pouring something else into your bloodstream.

It's head snaps back, and no longer bothering to conceal itself, you can see a toothy grin. An explosion rips your shoulder apart, your arm hanging by a loose strip of flesh. The pain is excruciating, the Hunter smashes you over the head with four more regrown tentacles, slipping free again. Cath fires at it, a wordless, synthetic shout erupting from her black form as the bodysnatcher takes wing to avoid it, practically slithering around in the air, dodging her every shot. You quickly paint it as a target, a cruise missile launching into the air nearby in response.

She kicks off, flying after it, and you can bareely pay attention to their fight as you attempt to close the wound. The poison makes your blood as thins as water, and you are forced to reattach the two halves with tendrils, sewing the parted flesh together.

    100% Of what?

Did we absorb the hunter? No upgrades?
    Alright.
Damn, I was hoping to get AJ

Ask Cath how she is holding up, can she fix the damage? Contact the wise and tell them the Hunter has been taken care of.
Actually, make sure the hunter is dead.
If we did absorb it, rummage through its memories for info

We can stilk fight, right? Just need few minutes to catch our breath?
There are still shit to fight and absorb.

Ask the wise the location of more targets.

Well balls, seems like I really needed that break. No more threads completely made out of fighting. Yes, you did absorb the Hunter. Yes, you'll get to pick mutations in a minute. No, you don't have enough energy to fight. You just duked it out with one of the strongest creatures on the planet in physical and mental (well, sort of mental) combat, and it landed some cheap shots on you. The poison and sedatives combined with your wounds is enough to cripple you, add to that some exhaustion (not anywhere as much as you'd have without Protean Nautre, mind, without it you'd be unconscious) and you're out of the game for a while.

Normal post coming in a moment.

We're going to have to take some time at some point to determine how many more mutations it will take to lose what's left of our human side. I would advocate not losing it as that's what likely happened to Grey.

"Cath? How you holding up? Can you heal?" She glances at the malformed slag hanging from her shoulder. "In time. I think I'd like to sit out the rest of the battle." You let out a wheezing laugh. "No kidding. We're pretty beat." She collapses at the foot of the wall. "Yeah. But we won, didn't we. We beat the bastard." "Hah! Sure we did. You doubted me?" She snorts, and gives you a playful slap, both of you wincing from it.

You reach out to Daisy, and she greets you with a flood of chatter about how she's in a room with a lot of people and screens, Kellery's with her as is Doctor Scruffles, that she helped find the bad guys and that the men around her say they've won. You give her the mental equivalent of a pat on the head. "You did good, kid. Now, I'm going to need some rest, kay? We'll see you soon." Breaking off the link, you reach up to the surprisingly unscathed visor and earpiece, and report to command that you took down the Hunter, yes, you are beside it, no, it hasn't moved again, yes, you're sure it's dead, and so on. Apparently, Richard was on one of the VTOLs that got entwined by spores, and Cath forgot to mention it. He supposedly escaped the crash completely unharmed, though.

A heat builds up inside you, a faint discomfot at first, quickly turning into a raging inferno. You'd scream, but the air is constricted out of your lungs, your body spasming. You can hear Cath asking some question, her voice becoming more distant as your sight blurs. She turns hysterical, and you ponder what happened again, before realising that she's leaning above you, her concern directed at you. Your consciousness slips away, as she starts beating at your chest, shouting at you.

You face the two trees again, marvelling how much they've grown since you've last seen them. A low rumbling sound comes from behind you, and you turn to see two more trees erupt from the ground. One is skeletal, torns bristling on grey branches reaching out like the fingers of a dead man. The other is black as darkest night, it's bark richly textured with blue stripes, bloodred flowers blooming amidst circle-shaped purple leaves.

You open your eyes to see an army medic croaching over you, defibrilator pads whining softly in her hands. "Clear." Her voice is calm and professional, and there is a slight disconnect before you realise what she's about to do. Your hand shoots out, grabbing her gently but firmly by the throat. "Don't. Just... don't. I'm fine." You let go of her, and she walks away, grumbling. Catherine hugs you with her one good arm, pushing her head ahainst your chest. "Your heart stopped for seven minutes. We thought you were dead." You look at your upraised hand with puzzlement, strangely at peace.

Choose TWO, that is 2 mutations:

    -Armoured Juggernaut
Your body alters to create a multi-layered protective armour, making you a walking tank, though stripping you of some mobility while using it.

    -Master of Arms
You master all of the conventional bodysnatcher bio-weapons, unlocking their true potential. Your weapons become even deadlier than before.

    -Shrouded Terror
You are capable of becoming invisible, imperceptible on almost all spectrums.

    >master of arms includes sonic drum, temporary muscle increase and all gland upgrades, only the spores and one more unrevealed weapon are left out

New genetic information courses through you, and you can feel the potential, new weapons at your beck and call, the older ones reinforced and enhanced until they reach perfection. You twist the mind-link around yourself, again and again, until it becomes close to impenetrable, layer after layer of defenses blocking any attempt to manipulate you or cause you harm. Catherine looks at you with weary concern. "Jack, are you okay?" You squeeze her working hand, smiling at the battered woman, her hair melted in patches, her clothes in tatters. "Yeah, just a little lost in thought. I'm fine."

The two of you climb aboard a VTOL, and soon are en route to the Wise base. Your earpiece buzzes with static for a moment, before Richard speaks through it. "Hey Jack, heard you guys took down the Hunter. Absolutely smashing. Now, there is a tiny complication, and we need your help." An accent that wasn't there before seeps into his words. "See, the cyborgs are coming. Two days tops. HKs mostly, but more than enough of 'em to make a chap uncomfortable." You chuckle, and when Cath looks at you questioningly, you say "It never rains, huh."

Really sorry, hadn't seen those posts. I am pretty much asleep already, so I'll archive things, but if you like, you can talk it out, since AJ, MoA, and MF all have three votes a piece.
    >> Anonymous 08/21/11(Sun)01:54 No.16010264
AJ would be great except for the cut we'd take to mobility. We're otherwise geared for hitting fast and hard, so I'd prefer Master of Arms to take advantage of that.

The only thing I might have voted for different is Lord of the skies instead of Master of Arms but there was less votes for that anyways.

It will not take a hit on mobility because we have monster strength . This has been discussed before.

Stop taking gimmiks and choose a solid protection before anything else
    >> Anonymous 08/21/11(Sun)02:14 No.16010389
If you guys had actually thought in advance you would have known we would need to fight cyborgs. MoA is a solid upgrade for that but Mental Fortress is not, we need AJ, an Upgrade that can make us take a heavy lance at face and shurg it off.

So yes, take AJ, it will be crucial for the next fight.
The only downside would be that we will not be able to use flight, theb again it takes the same time as it takes for you to blink to turn it on and off because of the Prometean Nature, so that is not a problem either.

Fortunately we are invisible to the robots unless they use optical sensors.
    >> Anonymous 08/21/11(Sun)03:07 No.16010681
    >>16010389
Mental Fortress is something we'll need the next time we run into a hunter or other bodysnatcher that knows what it's doing. Which could pop up at any time from now on, even in the middle of a cyborg attack now that we've become such a priority.
    >> Anonymous 08/21/11(Sun)03:29 No.16010823
Then we can take AJ and MF
since we are carrying huge as fuck weapon and will have support, we don't need new weapons that much ....yet.
Besides even without firepower we are still a fucking steamtrain when it come to sheer power.
    >> Anonymous 08/21/11(Sun)11:54 No.16013855
Well, it seems I'm *a bit* late (thread is on page 14), but I'll post something anyway.

I agree that we should take Armored Juggernaut. Our Strenght negates penalty to speed and Protean Nature makes switching it on and off trivial. Second mutation should be either Master of Arms or Mental Fortress.

    >master of arms includes sonic drum, temporary muscle increase and all gland upgrades, only the spores and one more unrevealed weapon are left out
What about weaponized tendrills? Are they unlocked too?

    >input about things you especially liked/didn't like/loathed
Well, the quest is alright, but I'm worried a bit about speed at which we're gaining power. Hunter almost killed us, but at this rate soon even they won't be a problem. No challenge = no fun. But if I remember correctly, you mentioned something about us needing increasing quality and quantity of samples required to gain new mutations. Is this true?

And last thing: when we begin the next part?

    So, I'd guess... today?

Hey, just checking in on the thread.
    >>16013855
Yes, you will need more. You'll need several Overseers, a few Dragons, or another Hunter to gain a single more Mutation.
    >>16013865
It's actually thursday and saturday, so no quest today. I'll try to run another one one monday, but I'm pretty beat, and it's going to be a long ass day. I'll post tomorrow night if I can't make it, but the regular thursday and saturday quests will definetely be held.

Oh, and if I might point it out to those who might worry about gaining more and more mutations, you had the chance to absorb bodysnatchers in about a third of the threads, and there likely won't be a large scale conflict like the one in the last few.
