ou are a strange creature, capable of taking over other lifeforms to serve as your vessel. Your current host, Jack Winters, was unbeknownst to you a drug addict, and overdosed on speedball. To survive, you bonded with him, but this damaged you, leaving you separated from the bodysnatcher command structure. An individual by accident, you are hunted by the cyborg aliens, the forces guided by the illuminati called the Wise, and your own kin.

After speaking with the Wise, you were led to your new home, a suite in the office building concealing the base. Richard led you to the armory, and you chose yourself some heavy ordinance, but before you could test it out, the samples you requested had arrived.

    Your known abilities are:
    - reinforcing your muscle and bone tissue, making you several times stronger, faster and tougher
    - growing weapons from your arms, limited to one on each arm in any combination:a hooked, double edged blade on your forearm, claws, a spike that springs out from your wrist underneath your palm or launchable bone spikes
    - hardening your skin into thick, segmented bone plate armor resistant to heat and energy weapons, and growing a membrane under your skin, that contains fluid that hardens on impact
    - absorbing ingested organic material, that you can use to increase muscle and bone density(animal tissue is the most effective)
    - the ability to call forth your host's memories, skills and knowledge
    - altering your appearance, includin skin\hair\eye colour, facial features, height, build, and gender, though the more elaborate the change is, the more time and effort it takes.
    - producing almost any kind of drug, poison or acid in liquid form, including sedatives, that you can deliver either at high pressure from an opening that can be created anywhere on your body, or through the wristspike.
    - emitting pheromones that influence humans
    - sensing the mind-link of bodysnatchers
    - enhanced senses, capable of switching to different spectrums (infravision, ultrasound, noise filtering, etc.)
    - fiber-optic nervous system, allowing you to ignore pain to some extent, and speeding up your reflexes by orders of magnitude
    - a pair of leathery wings growing from your shoulder blades, with a bio-fuel fed jet system underneath it, allowing you extremely fast aerial movement
    - superhuman sense of balance
    - four combat tentacles

    Mutations:
    -Perfect Predator
Noise-level sense, body better optimised for stealth, invisible to digital sensors and leaves no scent

tanding by the elevator, you lean against the wall, looking at Cath and Richard. Catherine seems lost in thought, standing eerily still, only the flexing of her hand betraying any activity or life. Richard whistles some tune, that you, with Jack's help, realise is the theme of Star Trek: The Original Series. You raise an eyebrow, and he catches your glance, showing you a boyish grin and a thumbs up.

Suddenly overcome by the urge to smoke, you rest the back of your head against the cold wall with a sigh, waiting for it to subside. In a minute or so, the doors open, Daisy stepping out holding Kellery's hand, her hair clinging wetly to her head. She seems to have changed clothes as well, switching to a near mirror of the Professor's outift, a black skirt, a matching black pullover and a white shirt.

"So, let's get going, shall we? If you would lead the way, Agent van Rohe." "Sure thing, miss." he says grinning, and heads down a corridor. Following him, you can see another large storage room like the one you stole the samples from before, a group of technicians unloading a dozen canisters, four of them Overseer samples, the rest Leaders.

    Wat do?

    >Wat do?

We wanted Daisy to get some samples so that she can get all of the armor upgrades, right?
So do that. Explain to her of your plan, give her mind-info so that she knows which ones to choose (and that she has better familiarity so she doesn't choose the more offensive types).
Hmm, perhaps a Camuflage upgrades would do her good too.

Anyway, let her have 4 out of 12 samples maximum, the rest we will take so ourself.
We also need to take at least one Overseer sample, perhaps we will be able to get another mutation. Actually, if we can get another mutation, take at least 2 Overseer sample (monstrous strength and Juggernaut will be awesome!)

    Yes, to a certain extent.

But I'd like to point out that as I've pointed out in thread 16, mutations have replaced upgrades completely. You can no longer recieve regular upgrades, only mutations.

So, in other words, absorbing regular bodysnatchers will influence what mutations are available, but won't give us any other advantages?
On the one hand, mutations are much more powerful. On the second hand, we don't really know how to induce them.

    >>15843417
Basically, ask Daisy to try to absorb some samples. Let's hope for the best.

You explain your idea to Diasy, sending quick bursts of information of the way your armour works through the mind-link. She nods, her face a bit pale, and steps up to the cannisters, choosing three Leader and one Overseer sample. She dips her hand into the fluid, grimacing as her fingers sink into the slimey nutrient and preservative solvent. "Yuck." Tendrils extend, and in a few seconds she finishes. She stares at her hands frowning, then says "I can't do it." in a quiet voice.

Kellery rushes to her, kneeling down in front of the girl, and hugs her tight. "Why can't I do it? I wanna help like Jack does." You feel her emotions swell up through the link, accompanied by a strange pressure, slowly building up. The cannisters start to rattle on their shelves, the door behind you and the floors softly vibrating. The whole thing fades away as Kellery starts whispering soothing words to the girl, and you exchange wide-eyed looks with Richard.

Cath doesn't seem to notice anything, her synthetic eyes staring into the distance, the flexing of her hands now forming a sort of rythm with an almost imperceptible bobbing of her head. You don't get the disquieting feel you usually get when the "monster", as Daisy calls it, has dominance.

Tell Daisy that it is alright.
Then also try to get Cath's attention, ask her if she is alright.

Then absorb several samples (max 6) just to find out if they even work, perhaps it is not Daisie's fault after all. Try one or two which she chose.

Place a hand on Cath's shoulder and ask her if she is alright.

Daisy also needs some comforting words. Tell her not to worry, she has already been a big help. We're proud of her. She has been brave to even try such a disgusting thing.

    I have two theories:
1: Daisy, as an Overseer, simply gets an entirely different set of morphs. Our upgrades concentrated on our body. Daisy may get various mental abillities (telekinesis?). We just need to find out.
2: It simply didn't work. I think Kellery mentioned that samples are valuable only to incomplete Hunters (like us).

Okay, now for a course of action. Ask Cath if she's okay. That whole rhytm thing (and the fact that she apparently didn't notice anything happening) unnerves me a bit. Then, let's talk with Daisy. Ask her if she feels any different. She can't make armor, but maybe she learned something else.

You step to Cath's side, reaching out a hand to her shoulder. "Cath. Cath, you okay there?" She turns her head to look at you, and for a moment, you can feel her instinctively getting ready for combat. Her eyes focus on you, and she stops, looking a bit embaressed. "I, uh, I'm sorry Jack, I was just trying to figure out what else I can do. It's not easy, there's a lot of... well, information, schematics, data, and things like that to shift through. I'll be fine." You nod, and turn to Daisy, kneeling down beside her to be at eye level. "Hey, kiddo, it's okay, tt might have worked differently for you. You sure you don't fell any difference?" She look up, and thinks hard, then her face goes brighter. "I do! I don't know what it is, I feel a little dizzy, I think I'd like to lie down now." Kellery takes her hand, and says "That will be enough for now, we're going back upstairs. We'll call you if anything comes up." She walks out of the room, and you turn back towards the samples, deciding to absorb two Overseers and four Leaders.

You plunge your hands into the cannisters, and let the tentacles loose, devouring them one by one. You fell a slight heat building up, and suddenly, your muscles contract like in a seizure, and you topple, the floor approaching you at an almost lazy speed.

You see in front of you the land you dreamt about, some life returning to the scarred wasteland, yellow grass and weeds sprouting from the ground. In front of you is the strange tree you saw, still blooming, petals lightly drifting in the air around it. To your left, you spot movement, and another tree sprouts, rising into the air at a languid pace. It's branches are more slender, almost tentacle like, the bark on it a slimy, grey skin. Fruits the colour of raw meat grow from it, their weight dragging their branches down.

You wake to the cold floor, Catherine's concerned voice in the background. You stand up, a bit still wobbly, and say "I'm okay, no need to panic. I'm fine." You take deep breaths, in and out, in and out, calming down after a few seconds. You feel a change, a twisting inside you, and look at yourself with faint puzzlement.

    >Choose one mutation.

    -Monstrous Strength
Your physical strength increases in magnitude, making you stronger than it would seem possible.

    -Armoured Juggernaut
Your body alters to create a multi-layered protective armour, making you a walking tank, though stripping you of some mobility while using it.

    -Protean Nature
Morphing becomes second nature, your form freely flowing between states, the energy and time required to do so significantly reduced.

    -Mental Fortress
You raise layer upon layer of protection in your mind, making you immune to all but the most powerful malicious mind-link powers.

    -Lord of the Skies
Your form adapts, granting you near unparralelled mobility and speed in the air, allwoing you to keep up with any manmade aircraft.(allows limited flight with Armoured Juggernaut)

We hardly ever morph or shapeshift. Protean Nature is completely useless for us right now especially when considering we are going to fight powerful enemies right now which are not Overseers or Queens.

We need to get offensive or defensive upgrades right now.

Armored Juggernaut, or if that fails, Monstrous Strength is what we need right now.

That "shapeshift" part I understand. But morph? Every single one of our abilities (expect mental ones, like mind link) is a morph. Weapons? Morph. Tentacles? Morph. Wings? Morph. Chemicals? Morph. Armor? Morph. And morphing takes time (when fighting Hunters every saved fraction of second counts) and energy (we will tire slower).

Ah, I thought the energy efficiency was for the shapeshifting .... but even then, we haven't yet run into scenario were we ran out of energy, right? We always eat shitload of food and iirc, we were promised 300 pounds of meat.

I still think Strength or Armor is our best bet here.

On second thought, I don't think we need Mental Fortress right now. It will be useful later, when we take on the Queen, but right now it's either Monstrous Strenght or Protean Nature. I'll think for a bit longer and then give definite vote.

"Cafeteria? Sure, go up two floors, there's a sign. I'll have the lab boys prep your guns, should be ready after the meeting." He departs, and you head up with the elevator with Cath in tow. Just as he said, there is a sign with an arrow pointing to the cafeteria right by the elevator, and after a minute, you find it. It's a rather large hall, capabale of fitting more than a hundred people, round tables with five chairs scattered. You stand in line, and soon get to choose from the surprisingly large selection, each dish high class, including things like veal, fresh fish, salads and pastries.

You settle on a couple thick slabs of medium-rare steak, and get some potatoes and mixed vegetables to round it out. you watch as Catherine selects a few greasy looking dishes, and puts a slice of cake on her tray. And another one. And another. Soon, the pile is larger than your head, and Cath blushes a little as she catches you watching. She laughs, and heads out to a table, and after some consideration, you get yourself a veritable bowl full of goulash. You join her, and the two of you start digging in, at first in your usual manner of maximum efficiency. Catching yourself doing it you look up, only to see Cath doing the same, and as she notices, you share another laugh, slowing down to a more civilised pace. The food is very good, especially after a diet of half-frozen, raw meat. You could really get used to it.

Diggin in to Jack's brain, you call up everything you can, and have a pleasent chat with Catherine, joking and reminiscing about old times. She seems to be having a good time, and acts completely like the Cath you knew in the first days. After the conversation lulls for a moment, you glance up to see her looking troubled, staring at her plate with a pained expression.

"They want me to fight, don't they? That's why they want me in on the meeting." She quickly snaps her head up, raising her hands in the air, the palms facing you."Not that I can't fight. After the theme park, I'm sure I can handle myself. It's just... It raises questions. What's going to happen to me later? Will this be my life from now on? I guess, we should see the positive light in all of this. One way or another, we are protecting the humanity and making sure that there is a life for tomorrow. Even if regular people know nothing about this war, we might as well do something good with our situation.

She quickly darts into the shower, and you flop down on a massive couch with leather upholstery. Daisy runs into the room, out of breath from laughing. "Jack, look what I can do!" She squints at you, and a surge of panic runs through you as you are lifted a meter into the air alongside the couch. You feel the enormous presence you felt before around her, the mind-link rippling with power. Doctor Scruffles scurries into the room, and shouts at the girl in an authoritative voice. "Daisy, what did I say about lifting people without their permission?" She drags a foot along the ground. "Not to do it?" "That's right. Now put the boss man down." She looks at you with a bith of shame. "Sorry Jack."

I don't know if it's worth it. I mean, it's just a cat. No matter how many upgrades we cram in him, it's still just a cat. Sure, he probably could be very dangerous if given enough samples, but if we must use a cat to do our bidding, it means that we're either very lazy or very desperate. If this idea gets trough, give him just one sample. Don't waste them.

She nods very seriously."I told her. She said the same thing as you." She looks at the cat with a frown."Only Doctor Scruffles doesn't like it." The cat snorts. "Hey, it's hard to be enthusiastic if someone lifted you up while you were peacefully cleaning your junk." Kellery's voice cuts through the air. "Language, you foul beast. She's twelve." Doctor Scruffles rolls it's eyes at you.

You look at him, considering a few things, and then decide to confide your plan with him. "Well, I don't see the harm in it, boss. Might as well try it out." You ask Daisy to tell Cath that you'll be right back, and head back down the elevator with the cat. You see that two guards were posted in front of the storage room, but as you appear, they simply wave you through, and the cat sneaks in behind them while you keep the door open.

It hops on the shelf, suspiciously eyeing the cannisteres. "Sooo. Bad alien dudes in a can? I guess I can get behind that." It puts a paw into them one at a time, shredding the bodysnatchers inside with it's erupting tendrils. It sways afterwards, almost falling off the shelf. "Uh, is it supposed to feel this weird?"

"Ooooooh crap, this isn't going to feel nice." It's bones creak and pop, muscles and organs shifting around, and soon you are looking at a cat the size of a border collie."Guess it could've been worse." It shrugs, and Doctor Scruffles looks into the reflective surface of the closed door behind you, letting out a jubilant shout.

"HAHAHA, IN YOUR FACES DOGS, IN YOUR STUPID FACES!" It pauses for a second, and looks at you, saying in a serious voice almost overbubbling with laughter "This. Is going to be. AWESOME." Richard leads you to the elevator, pushing the button for the floor above the Wise communication chamber. You ride in silence, and hurry across a corridor littered with Canes Belli. He opens another security door with his ID and access code, and you step into a large oblong room, a massive table in the middle. You see Director Fadil standing alongside Agent Jacobs, a group of Canes Belli, with markings that indicate their higher rank, around them. There seems to be an officer for their airforce and armour divisions as well. Cath waves at you, already leaning against a wall from where she can see the table.

"Mister Winters, Agent van Rohe, thank you for joining us.We were just about to begin." Fadils voice fills the room with practiced ease. He gestures at an assistant, who presses a few buttons on a computer, the table displaying a holographic image of the city and it's surroundings. "We took your suggestion into consideration Mister Winters, but found it unfeasible. By relocating you to a secure base in an unpopulated area, all we'll accomplish is tip the bodysnatchers off, eliciting a more careful and better prepared attack." A horde of red dots fill the suburbs surrounding the city. " We estimate five hundred Infiltrators, with weaponry ranging from handguns to military hardware. Our analyst predict that they will be accompanied by a quarter as many Warriors, and the same amount of Faux-Dragons. Is that correct, Mister Winters?" You nod, the numbers matching up with what you saw. "Six Overseers will command from the field, there is a possibility of two or three Dragons, and one Hunter will be dispatched as well. I would like to ask you and Miss Abbey to act as a strike force, severing the troops from their chain of command. We would also task you with taking down the Hunter. Is that acceptable, Mister Winters? Do you have any questions, or tactical advice?"

Yes, it would be better to have the military wait until the enemy's chain of command has been neutralized so they can't form a coordinated response. That also might make it easier to cover the incident up as a large but poorly planned terrorist attack or something similar.
