    117 KB A Quest Yet To Be Named Ramirez !!Uaeh3DIuioc 07/26/11(Tue)02:37 No.15706548
Good Evening /tg/, it may be a bit late to try this, but I can't resist. I have an idea for a quest here that I believe you might like. The name of which I'll reveal later.

To put it simply, you will be in control of a warrior. A fighter out to make his or her own destiny how ever you may like it. More details will be revealed after character creation, depending on what you decide. At the end of this post, I'll ask you to roll for your starting ability scores, using stats stolen from DnD. Using these stats to define the core of the character, you can then decide the sex, name, ethnicity, and when this warrior lives. Literally any time or place in the past or present is acceptable as a choice. But that will come later.

For now, please roll 6d16. We'll add 2 to each of these rolls, for scores ranging from 3 - 18. So please, if you would, 6d16. The rolls from the first post will be those taken.

    rolled 13, 3, 5, 13, 15, 14 = 63

Very well. Your modified stats are:

    Strength: 15
    Dexterity: 5
    Constitution: 7
    Intelligence: 15
    Wisdom: 17
    Charisma: 16

Pretty good stats all around. You're a bit clumsy, but you manage to make do. Now these are your baseline ability scores. As you progress through the quest, these could possibly improve, or fall lower based on events. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

For now, please provide a chosen Sex, Name, and Location where you exist. As previously stated, this can be anytime in history. You could be a Roman legionnaire at the height of it's power, a Chinese foot soldier fighting another civil war, a Japanese samurai, a Russian Cossack. Anything within reason.

Assuming we have more than one player currently, we'll take a few suggestions and then vote, as this will obviously be a large factor in this character.

Now, who do you want to be?
    >> Anonymous 07/26/11(Tue)02:48 No.15706616
And please, try to keep things at least quasi realistic.

You are Bain, of the lower lands of Sweden. A loyal warrior for your jarl Ingvar, ruler of your people's lands. You have lived all of your life under his rule and his father's before him, training as you came of age in the art of war and of sailing, preparing yourself for the raids across the Baltic into the lands ripe for plunder.

That time has come. Now a young and strong man, you stand on the deck of the ship, Sverige at your back and the lands of the Finns and Estonians open to your might, only days away. Ingvar is at the head of the ship, watching the sea and leaving the sailing to your and the rest of the men.

On deck near you are most of the men accompanying you, only few remaining below. Of note are Skuli, and Kolfin, each a master of the sword and axe respectively. They're making quiet talk amongst themselves at the moment.

Is there anything you'd like to do while your make the voyage across the Baltic?

The time where you're not helping to sail you spend split between talking with the others in preparation of the raids and with Skulli in the art of swordplay.

The talks with the men seem to reveal little, but there's not much to discuss. The Finns, the Estonians, the Lats. They're all the same. None of the men are as strong as a good Nordic man. None are as fast. None are as smart. Their women are homely and their gods a joke. But they have gold, yes. Gold and food, and though they are homely compared to a fine Swedish girl, they do have women. And all of it is ripe for the taking.

Your talks with Skulli are likewise easygoing. You've spent years training with him and the other young men in preparation for this and future raids. Still, he goes over the finer techniques with you. Swing hard, swing fast. Distract the man you're fighting if you can and then kill him. Aye, it's good advice.

Lances are yet to be invented yet. But you do talk for a while with Kolfin on the use of the axe in battle. It most definitely has it's uses. Good for cleaving and chopping. It can cave a man's chest in, or remove his head completely.

The weather is mostly calm with bouts of rain, but there are no storms to speak of. Three days pass before you see land. A rocky shore with a wall of trees beyond. In the far distance, you can see plumes of smoke from within the forest.

Ingvar claps his hand on the man nearest to him as several men silently jump from the edge of the boat, accompanied soon after by you and the rest. You all grab hold of the ropes, pulling your vessel onto the shore.

Once you're all in place, Ingvar prepares to go over the battle plan, but first you must stand with your squad. Those who fight with a sword, or those with an axe.

Though skilled in the use of an axe, you are much more comfortable with a sword in hand. You go and stand amongst Skulli and the other swordsman and quietly listen to Ingvar, who speaks in a quiet but firm tone.

"Men. We march as two through these woods, coming from two sides into their village. Move fast. Strike fast. Kill the men and young boys, or else they'll soon become men and seek revenge against us. Don't stop to gather your spoils until the battle is ended. Those who die in this battle will dine with Odin in Valhalla. But those who die cowards, hiding from fear, will be forever forbidden from entering Valhalla. Now, we'll go."

He raises his axe and you all raise your weapons as well. Soon, he leads Kolfin and the other axe men away. You turn to Skulli. He nods to the group of you and turns in a different direction. The rest follow.

You grab your wooden buckler and hold latch it to your arm. For a moment, you make sure you're prepared. You have your shield. Your sword. You're wearing your leathers to protect from blows. You look down at the medallion around your neck and offer a prayer to the Gods before following after Skulli.

Your group arrives at the outskirts of a village. It is a few hours until dusk still, but you encountered no one on your way here. You can see several women and young children around a fire, at work on the village's food. Some are tending to clothes or mending tools. There are few men about. Most of them must be out wherever they keep their fields, tending to the crops. The ones here are mostly old, or craftsmen at work at their trade.

Skull stands hidden behind a tree, waiting for the signal. In moments, a blood curdling yell is heard coming from the other end of the village; the voice of Ingvar. Skulli raises his sword, yells out in response, and charges. The others follow.

    >> Ramirez !!Uaeh3DIuioc 07/26/11(Tue)03:40 No.15706958
You rush along with the other swordsman out of the treeline, charging past empty huts towards the village square. The women are looking at you with fear, screaming out as they clutch their confused children. The few men are gathering what they can, clubs, a few swords, wood axes.

Your men meet them, and the din of battle is heard. It is very one sided, but a victory is a victory. Or it will be, once you succeed.

Before you, about 20 feet ahead, is a tall brown haired man with a wood axe. He looks at you and only you, rage in his eyes.

    What do you do?

Note: Combat is handled with a 20 sided die. 1d20 for an action. There are modifiers based on your abilities. As you have a dexterity of 5, you receive a -2 modifier to hit. However, since you are well trained in the use of the sword, you gain a +2 modifier. If you attack with your sword, you would thus simply roll 1d20.

You turn to your left and yell out to Olaf. The two of you advance. The Finn, Lat, whatever it is he is, looks between the two of you as you draw nearer. You're close now. He turns his eyes to Olaf for a moment, and you strike, sinking your sword into his side. His eyes go wide and he yells out. Olaf takes the opportunity and swings his blade into the man, embedding it deeply into his shoulder. Blood squirts out as you remove your blades.

Olaf smiles at you, his crooked smile. "Good job, brother!" Though not true kin by blood, by virtue of who you are and what you do, you're all brothers in name.

It is when Olaf turns back to the battle that you notice the archers at the end of the village. One of their arrows strikes your battle brother, digging itself deeply into his chest. He drops his sword, and with a thump, he falls to the ground.

    What do you do?

    22, 10, 22. Two hits, one miss.

Another soldier drags Olaf to cover. You turn and watch for a moment before feeling to sharp pains in your lower half. Looking down, you see one arrow embedded in your leg and another in your stomach.

You've been shot! Twice! By arrows! By the Gods, this is painful. More painful than anything you've experienced yet in your moderately long life. You stumble sideways, looking back up at the archers. To their surprise, Ingvar and the rest of the axemen are soon upon them, bashing them and hacking them to nothingness.

The arrow in your leg is blindingly painful, and you struggle to keep standing. It's of no use, and you're soon on the ground. You drop your sword and shield and look about the village. A few people are trying to run, but they're quickly cut down. Before long the village is yours, and the men are gathering the wounded. This includes you. You look down at your gut, and see the blood seeping out from beneath the leathers. It's the last thing you see before you pass out.

Note: Damage and remaining standing will use actual rolls and rules to go along with them later, but I'm making this a bit more cinematic to get things going. Please, bear with me, as we're almost to the good part.

You awake looking at a bright sky. You cover your eyes and turn your head to evade the near blinding sun. You see that you're laid on the deck of your ship. You also see Olaf beside you. His skin is gray and his face lifeless. You feel saddened. He was a good man and a good warrior, several years your elder. He'd be a good addition to Odin's table. You cover your wounded stomach with your arm as you lift yourself up. You see several other dead brethren laying on the deck. Beyond them are the wounded, their eyes closed, but life still quite visible within them. You pull yourself up with aid of Olaf's body. Your leg isn't in as much pain as it was before.

Looking over the edge of the ship, you see the sea. But it is indeed familiar. Turning to look across the other side, you see your home. A modest village on the coast. Men and women are milling about, talking to each other. Some of the warriors are seen outside their homes, talking to their wives and children.

Ingvar is talking to Skulli and Kolfin around a fire, a bearskin in his hands.

    What do you do?

You move slowly towards the edge of the boat. Looking back at the dead, you once again feel the pangs of sadness. But soon, you think, you'll help to light their pyres. And then you and the others will sit in the hall, drinking and remember their lives.

You climb over the side, easily making the small drop to land. You ease yourself back to a full stand and make your way towards Ingvar and the others around the fire. The men and women watch you as you move past them.

As you draw closer, Ingvar looks up from the bearskin to speak again when he sees you. He looks surprised. The others turn to see you as well. You greet them. "Ingvar, Skull, Kolfin; my brothers." You look to the ship and then back to them. "We should hurry to prepare the funeral."

The others stare at you, silent. Skulli looks to Ingvar. Ingvar looks back to Skulli. Skulli nods. Ingvar looks back to you. "What are you? An agent of Loki?"

What is he talking about? You look at him confused. "I am Bain." You say, your confusion obvious. You look to the others. Their faces are cold and serious. "Skulli, what does he mean?"

    "He means who are you?"

"I told you, I am Bain." You look at the three of them. "I am your brother just as you are all mine."

Kolfin speaks. "Yes. Bain is our brother. But you are not. Bain is dead these past two days, victim of wounds received in battle. Now answer, imposter, who are you!"

You look confused. What are they saying? Why are they saying this? "You're mad, Kolfin. How can I be dead? I'm standing right here!"

"Aye, you are." He says. He reaches out and grabs you, holding your shoulder tightly, his grip painful. "But you are not Bain!" He yells, grabbing at your tunic and pulling it up, revealing your stomach. You look down, your wound is gone. There's no sign an arrow had ever torn itself into your flesh.

Kolfin smashes his fist into your stomach, bowling you over. "Imposter!" You struggle to try and catch your breath. You look up to see Ingbar, sword in hand. He strikes, sinking the tip into your chest. You gasp, unable to breath.

He pulls the sword free and plunges it into you again. "Gather some men," he says. "Take this beast to the sea and return him to wherever he came." You feel the sword leave you again, and you fall to the ground. You find yourself unable to speak as you're pawed at by a pair of hands. And then another. And another. Everything's moving so fast. Your head lolls from side to side as you're roughly carried towards the coast, up a small path to a cliff face several dozen feet high. You struggle to comprehend what is happening as you're tossed away, into the rocky sea.

And with that, I'll leave it until next time. There weren't many players here, by fault of doing this so late at night. For anyone interested, we'll continue with this soon.
