    36 KB Zerg Quest L Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)20:56 No.15650845

Thread 50! Whoo! I've managed to keep about 5 people interested for a whole year!

Alright, Cerebrate. Enough frivolity. Game face.

The unknown forces behind the apparent poisoning of the planet Kassandris nearly captured one of our wraiths using some kind of plasma weapon we have never seen before. This does not take away from our elation at turning the tide of the battle at Nickenae, even though we still aren't completely sure who we helped.

Cyberbrate is keeping up with the Confederate and Morian ciphers, though we have yet to use any of them.

I promise to fight the urge to slip the Water Temple into Thread 50, because we'll be here all night.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)21:10 No.15651015
Mind you, I made no promises about King Jabu Jabu's belly.

Geez, I miss one thread and I have no idea what's going on. Time to catch up I think.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)21:19 No.15651111
We decided to mess around in UED space.

It's alright. Nobody else knows what's going on, either.

Do we still periodically scout that crystal, looking for a chance that we may steal it and revive the Overmind?

Arrite, you know, I'm a bit worried here, and not just about the UED.

How the heck is Kerrigan gonna react when she hears we brokered non-aggression with the protoss...?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)21:59 No.15651559
    Nobody wants to act?

We could try infiltrating the Confederacy, or Moria. We could explore more of UED space, and find out what the hell's going on, there. We could talk to our non-aggressive Protoss Empire contacts. We could work on sifting through Cyberbrate's databanks, which are still largely untapped.

Internbrate has a bad feeling. It thinks something is happening. Something psionic.

    Except me that is.
    Internbrate is a worrywart.

Here's what we do, increase our colonization effort, crack the remaining cypher then negotiate with the Morians if we get Kingston and Tarsonis (the people living there are optional), further probe the UED.
    >> TUCAMP 07/20/11(Wed)22:29 No.15651886
After all, Tarsonis must BURN, even if we get it through a negotiated surrender.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)22:30 No.15651907
Cyberbrate's ciphers are up to date, currently. We could infiltrate Moria, or we could communicate in another way.

Internbrate really, really thinks something is happening.

(You took too long! My hand has been forced!)
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)22:33 No.15651933
Look to begin upgrading Internbrate's psionic capabilities so it can be more specific about its bad feelings.
    >> TUCAMP 07/20/11(Wed)22:34 No.15651955
I have tv to watch at 9, so let's check the crystal then. If it's not the crystal giving interbrate the hebejebies, then poke dapperlord to ask Kerri if there's anything going on, and if that's not it ask the Jael'ten if they're noticing anything funny right not.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)22:38 No.15652007
(Gasp! TUCAMP has more important things to do? When did that happen?)

We send an overlord to the first logical place to look for something psionic happening: the last place something psionic happened.

As our overlord arrives over Zhakul, it feels a familiar psionic emanation, a warping of space that indicates that the Preservers are summoning another fallen Protoss back to life. There are two carriers in orbit, and a small contingent of forces waiting near the crystal.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)22:41 No.15652038
Listen in on Confederacy and Protectorate communications. See what they're going to do about the Combine.

Colonylord had better be working on the next Colonization Wave.

We need to continue comparing the map we have of UED space, with the actual reality. We need to explore. Used cloaked units only.
Expand the Lutrious listening post to a full size outpost.

And have Internbrate tell us more about what it's afraid of.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)22:44 No.15652092
Are there any Observers in the area?
Can the Cloak Overlord get in a little closer to see what's going on at the crystal?
    >> TUCAMP 07/20/11(Wed)22:47 No.15652128
Since Franklin and Bash turned out to be entertaining. Now, I wonder who it will be. I am reluctant to attack the protoss so soon after getting a ceasefire. Still we need more colonial expansion, and I'm more interested in claiming the whole of the UED then the protoss. On that note, we need to build a warp capable missile barge, able to say... nuke the entire surface of a planet the size of Aiur several times over in a single volley.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)22:48 No.15652135
The overlord hasn't encountered any observers, yet. It moves in closer, giving the carriers a wide berth.

It can make out the Preservers around the crystal. They are definitely performing the same ritual as last time.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)22:50 No.15652170
While I would love to kill them all and take the crystal, doing so would bring the full weight of the Protoss Empire down on us. We can't stand up to them right now.
So have the Overlord continue to Observe.

Colonylord needs to get more colonies started up.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)22:52 No.15652196
Screw that. Get a dropserver in there, so we can listen in, like last time.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:00 No.15652290
Why would we use a Dropserver, rather than the Cloaked Overlord already in-system?
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:00 No.15652307

Let us explore more of UED space. Send a few dropservers to scout about using that map we found, and send a few to that one planet where we presumably chased off Dyles attempting to attack a UED planet. Listen in on traffic and whatnot.

Contact the Jael'aten. See how they're reacting to Khas' resurrection, and ask them how Khas has reacted to their apostate status.

Contact Kerrigan. Get her up to date on all that has transpired with the Protoss and about the possible arrival of the UED.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:04 No.15652343
I wonder if it's possible to run some psychic interferance to tamper with the resurrection process.

I don't think we know enough about the Khala to be able to CONTROL what happens, but we should have the capabilities to ensure that the process is imperfect (random burst of protoss-like psionic emanations or a pulse of dark-templar Void-based powers).

So long as our interferance is untraceable (or could be blamed on Dark Templar) I wouldn't mind being able to make sure that whoever is getting ressed has a brain like mashed potato.

If nothing else it could keep the Protoss from trying res anyone else. If things go well, we'll be able to increase the divide between the Protoss and the Dark Templar. (Remember, the Dark Templar are theoretically the only beings currently on the table that can permanently kill us WITHOUT wiping out the entire Zerg race.)
    >> anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:04 No.15652349
I think it's obvious what we need to do.

Also create seed-fleets and send them to other planets/systems.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)23:06 No.15652366
The dropserver winds into orbit under cloak. It creeps toward the crystal's location, and Cyberbrate tweaks the audio receptors to adjust for interference.

Again, the Preservers are speaking their ritual. At its end, we hear a new portion.

"Come back to us, fog that hides the shadow! Come back to us, compassion of the Khala! Division looms, but stability must triumph! Those you fought are defeated, but their ideals remain. Come again to halt this schism. Rise and be with us, Adun!"
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:07 No.15652386
We sort of solved the dark templar problem, actually.

    Well, Kingston did.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:08 No.15652392

The Dark Templar are wiped out to less than ten to twenty individuals after Kingston nuked Shakuras to hell and back. Add into that fact that they willingly went against the Khala and threw it in Adun's face when he tried to reconcile them with the Conclave, and I think that Khas won't need any more help in widening the rift between the two factions. The Dark Templar are something we should be wary of, but so long as we have the cease-fire in place, we may be safe for now. If we work with Khas even more, he may even give us permission to hunt down those blasphemers with his blessing.

Khas is a much more immediately powerful psionicist than we are. We will not likely be able to fool him if we interfere with such a process.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)23:08 No.15652395

    >> TUCAMP 07/20/11(Wed)23:10 No.15652410
Let's think very hard at the crystal, and get the SciCore to join in, it might work. Adun will bring the dark templar into the protoss fold, I want the dark templar dead, not working with the Khala protoss.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:10 No.15652416

Hell, I think we've still got some Dark Templar captives from weeks ago. If we can sneak them near the location and kill them there, their death-screams (amplified, by Psi-enhancers, if absolutely necessary) might just be enough to ruin the Protoss' plans.

So long as we make sure that Tassadar is no-where close, none of the Conclave Protoss will even recognise the death-screams as anything more than some sort of psionic assault that reeks of Dark Templar essence.

Also, the idea of a vegetative protoss Feneschal bumbling about is kind of amusing.

    They're resurrecting Adun?

He tried to save the Dark Templar when the Conclave ordered him to exterminate them to a man. This might serve to open up more divisions within Protoss society, rather than strengthen Khas' rule.

It seems like the whole Aldaris/Tassadar conflict might come about again, only this time with even more legendary heroes at the helm. And this time, there may be no huge Zerg threat to re-unify them under the cause of a common enemy.
    >> anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:13 No.15652443

(They're resurrecting Adun because I rolled a scenario while you guys were being quiet. In keeping with our tradition of weird dice rolls, this was the least likely scenario I had in mind)

The crystal thrums, and glows, and psionic energy rushes through the air like electricity, but no one steps out of the crystal.

The Preservers cover their heads and mutter something we can't pick out, then try again.

"Mighty Adun, who brings unity, come to us! You were an icon to all, and a hero to the Dark, but those you saved have been slaughtered by a new enemy! You must help us renew our commitment to ourselves! COME!"

Energy builds again. If we wish to make some sort of move, we have time.

Can we throw some Terran units in there and make it look like we had absolutely nothing to do with the nuke we set off?
Oh right, and set off a nuke somewhere nearby. Close enough to fuck things up, not close enough to vaporise the crystal.

Fine, if we don't have Dark Templar captives we'll kill a terran hooked up to a psi-enhancer then. Hopefully one that we've driven insane already so that there's nothing that would point the finger at us.

We DO have terran captives, right?

Adun is either a very good thing or a very bad thing for the Zerg.

The bad is that he may try to save the few remaining Dark Templar.

The good is that he, more than anyone currently alive, understands the Xel'naga's plan for both the Protoss and the Zerg.

    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/20/11(Wed)23:39 No.15652727
The plan I labelled lead bullets included a nuclear bonus.

We focus our psionic energies like a grasping finger to prod into the Preservers' power. Rather unaccustomed to dealing with this sort of ritual arrangement, we just feel around for a weak point and tear at it.

Roll 1d100 to see exactly what that does, for good or ill.
    >> Anonymous 07/20/11(Wed)23:41 No.15652750

Mind Bullets hidden by Lead Bullets PLUS subtefuge!

Send a few of our terran assets theres, along with a terran linked to a psi-enhancer to produce a death-scream. Engage the protoss fleet enough to ensure that an insertion force lands adequately close to the crystal.

AT THE SAME TIME: use our new encryption codes to broad-cast an S.O.S. to all Terran factions warning of a fight and asking for reinforcements/saving.

If we're lucky, the Protoss fleet will have destroyed our own fleet BEFORE the real Terrans arrive.

Depending on whether or not the Terran reinforcements arrive in large enough numbers to be a challenge to the Protoss fleet, we can ready Zerg forces to hop in and 'save' our Protoss 'associates' and earn some extra brownie points even IF Adun survives.

(Cerebrate Anon: Can you please let us discuss properly things before forcing us to vote as soon as two possible solutions have been proposed? The Zerg cannot use the Crystal to bring the Overmind back.

The Crystal can only bring back the Protoss that are connected to the Khala (so it shouldn't even be able to bring a Dark Templar back).

Since the Overmind is not part of the Khala, the Crystal will be unable to bring him back.

(Not to say that it might not be useful to help us remember how to bring a cerebrate back like how the Overmind was able to do, but it should be considered more an object of study for the Zerg rather than a tool we could use.

Just as energies start to coalesce, building as they did before in response to the Preservers' call, we tear some fiber of their power loose. The response is not like pulling the foundation from beneath a mighty tower, causing it to crash painfully to the ground. Rather, it is like pulling a thread loose from an uncompleted weave, quietly unraveling the entire cloth.

The crystal dims, and goes dark. The Preservers cry out in desolation as the psionic energies silently dissipate.

"Adun has left us! He finds our plight unworthy. We have failed!"

We discreetly remove our tendril of psionic energy. It seems that the Preservers did not sense our influence.

(A good roll, but less interesting than the 100 roll of "resurrected people just start pouring out of the crystal")

I would like to support the motion that we investigate the UED.

Also, that we mention having encountered the UED on ZergTV.

    Artisanbrate needs more material!

So, What has ZergTV been showing recently? I hope it's not reruns again.

Also up for exploring more UED space.

We should probably let Kerrigan know what's happening in the Korpulu sector, if nothing else than to gauge her reaction and see if she knew these things already.

    Voting for:
    Explore UED Space
    Explore Kassandris with robots

Don't communicate with UED/Nickenae or Moria.
I prefer staying mysterious in regards to the former, and we need to know more about the latter.

Suddenly, a mob of players appears! Awesome!

Our overlord drops out of warp near a star called Alroma, which our map claims is the home of an ancient alien mothership, abandoned eons ago and discovered by the UED. After a little orientation in the planetless system, we find the mothership, sporting obvious Terran adjustments and modifications, floating near the sun's habitable zone.

    There are no transmissions.
    >> The Honorable Representative 07/21/11(Thu)00:51 No.15653330
Launch a cheap transmitter, and relay a message through it to the vessel.

    >> TUCAMP 07/21/11(Thu)00:53 No.15653336
Does it look Xel'Nagy or Protossy? I think we need to take it.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)00:53 No.15653340
    I think
Now this is just me being a not-very-cautious-at-all type of person
But I think we should send a huge attack fleet and try to take it over.
If we can't take it over we should nuke it.
If it's full of Dyles garbage, we should double-nuke it.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)00:54 No.15653346
Have the Overlord go in for a closer look. See if any lifeforms are aboard.
Also, get Labbrate: he might be interested in this alien technology and design.

The unmanned probe transmits its message, and a reply comes over the comm. It is very loud.

A jingle begins playing obnoxiously loud, and we cut off the transmission. Local system time appears to be about 0755. We are detecting humanoid life signs aboard the station.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)00:59 No.15653384
So we found the UED equivalent of "World's Largest Ball of String" road-side entertainment?

Well, scan the mothership, see if our Science Trio can see anything interesting about it, then Warp to the next system on our list.

Perhaps we should send one of our least-obviously infested terrans over to see the place? We might be able to get a feel for why the hell the UED would place a tourist trap this close to the Korpulu Sector. Also, we might be able to hear some stuff about the UED.
    >> The Honorable Representative 07/21/11(Thu)01:06 No.15653433

Most of the installation is Terran in origin. There are shopping malls and roller coasters and alien exhibits that are obviously decommissioned SCVs covered with rubber.

At the heart of the station, however, is something not Terran in origin, but we still know what it is: a small chunk of a Xel'Naga worldship. All indications are that it is offline, but two Terran life signs are moving around inside.
    >> TUCAMP 07/21/11(Thu)01:26 No.15653566
    Must get Xel'Naga ship part.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:29 No.15653589
This is something we should not let the Terrans keep.
Prepare demo squads and spaceborne forces to rip all the Terran bits off the worldship. Lots of both, so we get done quickly.
When we're ready, send in some small, stealthy ground units to go in, kill the two Terrans, and lock down the worldship.
    Then crack the walnut open.
    >> The Honorable Representative 07/21/11(Thu)01:30 No.15653596
Send the infiltrator, and assuming this is just a giant tourist trap, have them aquire entrance into the worldship.

By pickpocketing other tourists money if they need to.

    >Xel'Naga Worldship
Okay, that's worth committing some war crimes and atrocities for.

Prepare a Terran strike force. Give it Confederacy IFF transponder codes, make sure that all of the communications are encrypted with the latest Confederacy cypher. This strike force, consisting of 3 battlecruisers and 6 escorting squadrons of Wraiths, and some Valkyries wings, are to be prepared at our Yoshus shipyards, and then they will come in at a vector that if traced back, would lead to Tarsonis.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:33 No.15653624
THR's plan is basically stage 1 of my plan.
Also, keep a large battlefleet on standby, in case UED decides they want to fight over the shinys.
    >> The Honorable Representative 07/21/11(Thu)01:34 No.15653628
Well, first we should actually get someone inside it.

Since it is a tourist trap, we can literally just walk inside.

The invasion can wait till we've got inside confirmation.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:35 No.15653633
We don't have large forces in UED space.
We only have a small defensive task force centered at our listening post at Lutrious.

To get to UED space from our current Core Worlds would require a trip of a few weeks.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/21/11(Thu)01:35 No.15653639
Remember: This is far enough from Yoshus and the rest of our main forces that it takes weeks for them to arrive, and weeks to get back.

If we commit our Terran assets (particularly the capital ships) to this mission, they won't be there for us in the Koprulu Sector for a while.

The Terran forces we have nearby are mostly wraiths, with a few dropships and assorted ground units.
    >> The Honorable Representative 07/21/11(Thu)01:38 No.15653647

    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:40 No.15653662
Send in a inflitrator. Determine if we can board it with what we have and secure it. Once it is secured, we either rip out what we want from it or find some thing to transport it back. If it has nothing we want or we can't secure it, we nuke it to hell
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:42 No.15653675
    Okay. Long term plan, then.
Get the guy inside to be the inside guy, then we need to start building/stealing a sizeable attack force. Enough to take the worldship and haul ass back to safer space.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:44 No.15653684
    I am aware of that.
If other people don't want to lose the battlecruisers, we could make a new taskforce specifically for this purpose.
With our Starforge, laying down new keels shouldn't tax our resources too much, and with the shipyards above Yoshus, it shouldn't be too difficult.
    >> TUCAMP 07/21/11(Thu)01:45 No.15653692
You know, it's entirely possible that the ship is functional, just currently off. So, we could just fly it away... maybe.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:47 No.15653705
This isn't really an OH GOD DO SOMETHING BEFORE IT ALL GOES TO SHIT situation. The UED has obviously had this thing for a while, either they already figured out what it does and decided to hide it, or can't figure it out and decided to hide it. Those two guys inside are probably caretaker research staff.
I seriously doubt they're JUST NOW about o figure out they build an amusement park on a rather large piece of super-valuable tech.
    >> The Honorable Representative 07/21/11(Thu)01:50 No.15653731
Or, it is entirely possible that it isn't hidden at all, and is the "Mysterious alien mothership" the tourist trap is built around. The two lifesigns inside might just be tourists.

That...is truly horrific. How does it even--Oh, we're not even sure if that's sexual or just plain disgusting, but we're not keeping our Eye on it long enough to find out.

One of our Terran agents arrives in his dropship at 0835 sharp, and walks confidently toward the door, for all the world looking like a normal human being (who is in no way carrying a payload of mutagenic spores designed to turn another human being into a travesty of life, chained forever to a space slug halfway across the galaxy). He smiles at passers-by, both the squirming man-larvae and the adult humans. He quietly slips through the security checkpoint and into the station. There are sure to be difficulties in getting to the Xel'Naga relic, but we'll discover those next week!

(I just realized I have to be at work extra early tomorrow. That's already going to suck. I don't want to compound it with sleep deprivation! I already did that last night by downloading an N64 emulator and staying up until 3. Getting up this morning was hellish.)
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:55 No.15653759
Or MAYBE they've opened up sections of the ship to tourists to fool anyone who takes a peek into assuming that.
This is why we need a dude inside to figure it out.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)01:56 No.15653768
Well, didn't he say it was a piece of a ship?

We should figure out which piece. If it's the part that let the Naggs give a space slug magical psychic powers, we might be dealing with a whole different UED than we got in Brood War.

Like, I can't start until 10:30 at the earliest, usually 11PM.

Fuck! Did we just miss an opportunity to take Kerrigan to a space side-show?

Put bringing back a souvenir for her at the TOP of our list of priorities.
    >> Anonymous 07/21/11(Thu)03:16 No.15654451

Also, just a thought for next week, as I don't usually find these threads early enough to contribute - we could pose as one Terran faction or another and demand to confiscate this extremely valuable archeological find, or (depending on how things go) lock down the station because of the unmistakeable evidence of Zerg infestation there. Bluffing isn't exactly our strong suit, but we can always fall back to barging in guns blazing.

Don't you realize that Zerg Quest needs to be YOUR TOP PRIORITY FOREVER?!?! What are you thinking abandoning your loyal players like this nah I'm kidding good luck with the sleep-getting and class-taking.
