    222 KB Totemist Quest XIII Diarca !!rV8GTu4cyt+ 06/28/11(Tue)18:10 No.15415754
You awaken to the chirping of birds and the hustle and bustle of your village. Ordinary life. It's something you've been deprived of lately. You sit up on your elbows, casting a glance around your hut. Your pile of Totem ingredients lie alongside your newest Focus, a Stalker pelt. You can feel the aching in your muscles has lessened significantly, and the bruising along your back is receding in a reasonably quick fashion. There are several things that you have to accomplish today, but no particular order in which you must accomplish them. The day is yours, Totemist.

    How will you begin?

    TIME TO EXPERIMENT
Bone Foci > Blade tail we picked up
Do we have a sturdy, nice cloak? If so
    Stalker Foci> Stalker cloak *snigger*

Do it with a big grin. Cackle madly if anything

    On the agenda for today:

    > Repay debt to Boand with a dip in the spring. Probably bring Quinn along.
    > Fiddle with new Focus
    > Fiddle with pile of new Totem parts
    > Pick up orders from the Blacksmith
    > Possibly see Elana / Sister
    > Talk with Walther about Quinn's transfer (Not necessarily today)

Hmmm... regarding our sister we should probably wait until whenever all the kids are outside at the same time and take Tryd with us, that way we can see who has potential as well.
I'd kind of like to have Quinn be with us when we make the regular Totems, so he can appreciate the less glamorous aspects of the job.
I say we should see the Blacksmith and while we're there maybe we could ask if he would like us to make like a specific Totem for him?

I agree first thing to do is to some binding with out new stuff. Try Tossing the Stalker on a Cloak, hopefully we get invisible cloak. Secondly try attaching the Bone Warden to an off hand weapon of sorts, maybe the blade tail. Everything else can be done is no particular order.

You snatch the pelt from its resting place, feeling the weight of the fur against your arm. Turning, you snatch the cloak from its place on the stand. The two are similar enough in shape and size. You rub the sleep from your eyes, then set to work.

A brief flash of light later, and repressing one urge to cackle like a mad scientist for some inane reason, you hold a cloak of the deepest black in your hands. Your eyes seem to slide right off of the cloak, and the light shining around it seems to be slightly dampened as though the material had devoured it. You throw the cloak around your shoulder and note the light, cool feeling that it possesses, as well as the feeling of spaciousness within.

    > New Focus Combination: Nocturne Embrace
    > A cloak made for stealth, even in the brightest day

Feeling sufficiently imposing, you raise the blade from the Verdis Wyrm to the light. Cordia has not been bound for a few days, and you think it's time to allow her to stretch her capabilities a little further. You retrieve the broken skull from the desk, holding it at the base of the blade.

The weapon that emerges is terrifying to behold. A long, curving sickle of black metal, jagged along the edges, is wrapped in a handle of ivory and bloodstained bone. A low hum suffuses the air around the sickle, and an unidentifiable dark liquid drips from its tip.

I like them. I like them very very much. We've cot a secondary weapon which looks vicious and maybe poisonous and a sneaky cloak. All is well. We should show off our new cloak to Elana, though probably not the Fang. After that we can hit up our sister and the rest of the young'uns and have Tryd narrow out those with potential. If we need even more confirmation we could even drag those who burn bright to visit Boand.

You test the weight of the Fang a few times, swinging it back and forth. It moves through the air easily, and you find yourself craving a chance to test it. You throw your cloak open wide, looking within it for a loop to hang your weapon from. Failing that, you simply place the weapon in a loop on your belt. Your cloak will hide it from view. Gathering your spear, you set out for the Healer's hut.

As you walk down the street, you notice that fewer townsfolk than usual greet your with their usual bows or waves. Only when you pass through a patch of direct sunlight do they seem to notice you. Walking within the shadows of the houses seems to cloak you from view.

You arrive at the Healer's hut soon after. Shouldering your weapon, you rap sharply on the door. There is the sound of muffled conversation within before Elana opens the door.

"Hey Osyki." she says, smiling. "What's up?"

As for "what's up" we can respond with something like "I couldn't bear to not see your pretty face for even one moment longer."

agreed that these should become a regular part of our regalia. Does the fang still count as our ritual knife for ritual combat/binding?

Also, IIRC, one of the elders mentioned that the fields need soe help. If we get time soon, we should look up any totems we could create to encourage healthy plant growth. Maybe even make that Quinn's job. He seems eager enough. Let's let him read up on the nitty-gritty of our job and then start him on domestic improvements.

Let's put off the Walther thing for now. Because we'll be taking away one of his promising recruits AND asking him to train us at the same time.

    Oh shit Totemist Quest.

Ok, I read through all the archives a few nights ago and I noticed that you all have two of those mask things as spare. My suggestion is that Elana and Osyky both carry one whenever they leave the village.

We have no idea how precise the Magus can notice things, so I think any little bit could help.

"I couldn't bear to not see your pretty face for even one moment longer." you say with a grin. Elana turns several shades of red in order, then groans and punches you in the shoulder. She's smiling, though, and you notice that the tinge of red in her cheeks is not going away.

"Seriously, though, I just thought I'd stop by to say hi. And also to thank you for all the help you've given me recently."

She smiles. "I think we're all set here, though if you can find any more Whint Blooms, we'd appreciate it."

You nod. "I'm headed into the forest shortly. I'll keep an eye out for them." you say. "Also, check out the new cloak. Snazzy, eh?" You take a step back, spinning in place. She laughs, nodding. "Very nice. I've gotta get back to some patients, Osyki. See you later tonight?"

"I'll pencil you in." you say, grinning. "Later."

You catch Quinn patrolling the west wall as you head south, and abruptly pull him off of duty to visit Boand. He doesn't protest a bit as the two of you head toward the spring, though he wont stop talking about the lessons he learned from spending the night reading the Almanac. You tolerate his ranting until the two of you reach the spring, at which time he falls silent.

Boand is swimming laps in her spring as the two of you approach. She grins widely as the two of you approach, waving lazily as you approach.

"Good day, Totemist." she says. "And Totemling as well."

Quinn sputters at that, and you chuckle.

"Are you here to square your debt with me?" she asks.

I had a thought for something we could try with our sentient spirits. Like if we bind them to an object and then unbind them, maybe we could try talking to the spirit to see if it knows the abilities of the item it formed?
Also I just want to make sure binding/unbinding isn't like, agonizingly painful for the spirit.

First we show off our snazzy new cloak, because it is very snazzy.

Second wouldn't Quinn be Vice-Totemist or Co-Totemist or something like that as I'd prefer to refer to the child we're grabbing as Totemling.

Thirdly, yes we are here to repay out debt, pay you a visit and given that Quinn is here could you give him a more complete lecture on spirits and their natures and their interactions with people than our humble self could.

Fourthly, who is better at determining spiritual potential between you and Tryd, because if you're better I might want to borrow your services to find the most spiritual capable child to train.

You gesture to the black wrapped around your body, and Boand smiles. "Very nice." she says. "I'd take it off before you get in the water, though. Wet Stalker is a truly horrific smell."

You recoil for a moment, then nod, beginning to unthread the fur from your neck. "For future reference, Quinn is my assistant. You'll be meeting the Totemling soon enough. He's more of a... demi-Totemist."

Boand nods as you remove your boots. "On that note, I had wondered if we might broker a secondary deal. I'm looking for a younger apprentice. I wondered if I might bring a few younglings here, see which one you like best. Your opinion is important to me, after all."

Boand chuckles as you dive into the pool. "I'd be happy to help you in selecting a child, for Osyki. My services will run the same price as the usually do."

You surface, rubbing the water from your eyes. Behind you, Quinn hits the water with a splash.

"So, what class of spirit would you be?" Quinn asks Boa. "A nature entity, or a concept?"

You sigh, placing hour hand in your hand as Boand's eyebrows draw together.

"Quinn, you don't just ask that sort of thing." you say, rubbing your temple. "Boand, I apologize for my assistant's inexperience."

Thankfully you are able to learn this first lesson among agreeable company, Tact is very important when dealing with spirits. Asking their nature is like asking a woman her weight, or age, it is pretty much verboten. You never ask quite that directly, you could say what a lovely pool that you are a spirit of and gauge their reply.

Spirits and People aren't that different. We're all driven by much the same things with many of the same fears.

"Quinn, I know you're young and excited, but how many times in the last two days have I said, out loud, that Boand is the Spirit of this Spring? Please, think before you speak. You'll learn more by paying attention than by asking, since most of your questions will answer themselves. I know it's all very exciting, but your _must_ keep your head about you."

Turn ot Boand "I'm terribly sorry. He's only begun reading Ayren's guide last night, and like any child shown a new wonder, he's overly excited. anyone here agree with my suggestion in an earlier thread that, over the course of the next decade or so, we make one or two extra warding totems per week and slowly spread them out, covering the surrounding forest until the Magus will be blind across the entire area, preventing him from trying to take vengeance on Boand, Sylvia, or any other spirit in the area? If he so much as sets foot in this region, I want him blind, crippled, and easy prey. That should make him think twice about being a dick on our turf.
