    > 4

You gasp and stumble forward as a wave of indigo fire rips through the air from behind you. You can feel the scorching heat on your back, on your neck, and it's a pain like you can't believe. You've been injured before, but never like this. You let loose a small cry of pain as you roll to your feet, turning to face Myoho. He's gone when you turn to look, the last vestiges of him flickering out of sight like a single flame in a bonfire. You stop for a moment, closing your eyes.

"Modi Magni, if ever there was an enemy for you, this is it. Aid me now, and claim your greatest prize to date." you mutter, holding the spear before you. It reacts violently in response, wrenching sideways, nearly out of your grasp. A needle-thin bolt of indigo lances through the spot that your heart would have occupied as you stumble out of the way.

    > 15

You take off, headed out of the village toward the mountain. Keeping your Mirror of True Sight in hand, you scan the area behind you as you run. You can barely see Myoho, jumping from place to place like bolts of lightning. The aid of the mirror and your spear allows you to dodge several blasts of the azure flame, though each dodge sets another building or street post aflame. You're glad the villagers have already evacuated.

    > 10

As you reach the outskirts of the village, you whirl to face Myoho. It has materialized before you now, four claws to match its eyes, all ablaze in fiery orange light. It strides toward you, each step leaving a mark of fire in its wake. You raise your spear to fend it off when a bolt of green light suddenly sprouts from its neck. It stumbles to the side, and you glance to see Sylviannis loading another arrow into her bow. Pressing your advantage, you bolt forward. Your spear meets the same resistance as it had before as you stab forward, but as you pierce the barrier between you and Myoho, something strange overtakes your weapon.

You can see the cracks erupting down the length of the spear as it slowly sinks into Evaleii Myoho's flesh, lines of deep crimson light shining forth from the fissures. From these cracks, a thick bronze liquid begins to flow. It coats your spear, and as you bound backward with your Cloudwalker's Stride to avoid a furious swipe from Myoho, your weapon changes.

The liquid warps the spear, shifting its dimensions. The head of the weapon slowly gains spiked protrusions, and they begin to rotate back and forth across its surface. Large cogs solidify from the metallic liquid, each linking with the base of the spear's head, working their way down the shaft of the spear. As the last cog materializes just above where your hand grips the weapon, they whir to life with the sound of tearing metal. The spikes on the head of your weapon begin rotating with alarming speed, sending a roar of force through the air. Even Myoho takes a step back at this, and you can see Sylviannis wince from the rooftop.

You press your newfound advantage, sending the spear hurtling toward Myoho again. Wise to your tricks, however, it flickers from sight and appears once again on the outer-most rooftop of town. You can see a ball of brilliant indigo flame in its hand, burning in strange looping patterns.

"You wish this village to survive, Totemist? Find your composure and bring me the girl, or I will burn it to the ground. I can promise you that."

You grit your teeth, spear roaring in your hand. It would take months to rebuild the homes lost in the blaze. Years to replace the lost literature. Your workshop alone would be completely decimated. You sink low to the ground, making to drop the spear from your grasp.

Another shaft of green light sprouts from Myoho's wrist, and the flame in his grasp flickers and dies. He roars in fury, springing from his perch on the roof toward Sylviannis. Her eyes widen, and she takes a step back as the monster clears forty feet of space in a single leap, landing before her with claws bared. The air flickers and darkens around Myoho dangerously, and you find yourself forced into action. The cloudwalker's stride cracks like a peal of thunder as you leap forward, leaving streamers of lightning in your wake. You bring your spear high above your head, the cogs whirling and screaming in tandem.

The moment before impact, you can hear a dark chuckle from within the spear. The white claw still dangling from its cord is alight with deep red flame, and as your spear lances through the barrier around Myoho like so much paper, you can hear what sounds like a slow clapping sound. You can feel the spear sink through the layers of shadow until it hits something solid beneath. Sylviannis quickly vacates the area, and with a sickening squelching sound, Evaleii Myoho reforms. The back of his head becomes the front, with the rest of his body quickly following suit

The time dilation that Modi Magni affords you washes over you like a burst of spring water. You can feel, more than see, the destruction headed directly toward you. With a writhing, twisting maneuver, you manage to duck under the X-shaped claw swipe that hurtles toward you. Using your spear in Myoho as an anchor, you lean backward, you body going nearly fully horizontal to avoid the tearing claws. Allowing the momentum to carry you backward, you complete your flip. Your spear tugs free of Myoho with a messy squelch, following you on your descent. You can't keep a firm hold on it, only barely managing to land on your feet as you hit the ground.

The spear buries itself into the dirt point-first, shaking as though it were the epicenter of its own personal earthquake. The focus burns red in a flash of light, and it suddenly sinks into the ground, nowhere to be seen. You curse, leaping backwards to avoid Myoho's meteoric descent to earth. What does Modi think that it's playing at?

You draw your ritual knife your your belt. It's the only other weapon you currently possess. You utilize your bindings to hurtle forward, knife bared to carve the runes of binding into Myoho's body.

    > 4

You make it approximately three feet through the air before you feel a powerful fist in your side, drastically altering your momentum.

Your crash into the rock is painful, to say the least. You can feel something crack, and the haze of blinding spots that erupts in your vision disorients you. You can hear Sylvia call out to you, distressed. Everything is spinning rapidly.

[[ Sorry for the delay, folks. Lunch turned into a lunch date with my pretty incredible ladyfriend. I'll be here for another 45 minutes or so, then I'm out for the day. Movie date and such. ]]

You shake your head violently, dispelling the worst of the tiny white sparks popping in front of your eyes. As your visions clears, it's plain to see that Sylviannis is in trouble. She's jumping from boulder to boulder, just barely dodging each swipe of Myoho's barbed claws. Your spear is still nowhere to be found. Slowly rising to your feet, a crazy idea cross your mind. You glance down at the Cloudwalker's Stride on your feet, thinking over its electrical properties. Nobody said that they had to be used purely for travel, after all. You crouch into a ready position, then blast off.

    [[ Soundtrack: http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/track/crystamanthequins ]]

Your boots blast off from the earth, leaving a scorched ring of ash in your wake. You burst forward through the air, each leap adding to your considerable momentum. Myoho's dark form quickly closes in your vision, his back turned to you. He stands over a prone Sylviannis, the boulder she had planned on landing on in rubble all around her. She has a defiant look in her eye, and a small smile breaks as she sees you coming.

Myoho notices this, and turns just in time to receive your gift. Spinning into a ball, you rotate in mid-air. Traveling at an appreciable fraction of the speed of lightning, you extend your leg outward and with a powerful warcry, drive your boot into Evaleii Myoho's unsuspecting face.

Then, you flex your leg and kick off once more.

The bolt of lightning that erupts from your boot sends Myoho hurtling over Sylviannis, into a large rock outcropping around seven meters away. He blasts directly through the column of rock, bringing it crashing down on top of him. Sylvia rolls to her feet, bow in hand and arrow at the ready. "Thank you, Totemist." she says, drawing her aim toward the pile of rubble. "But I fear that won't be nearly enough."

You look at Sylviannis for a moment, thinking. "See if you can't find where my spear went." you say. Without another word you take off, one leap after the other, toward the pile of rubble.

Evaleii Myoho is just beginning to rise from the wreckage of the boulder when your foot hammers into him again. You can feel the barrier he's constructed around him shattering as your foot crunches against the hard outer shell of shadow he's constructed. He goes back to the ground immediately, his eyes widened to full circles of light as he slams into the shattered earth. You bring your foot down in a powerful axe-kick, lightning trailing it all the way. Myoho barely manages to move, flickering out of the way as you make a crater where his skull previously rested. Whirling around, lightning rising in waves from the ground beneath you, you glance at the area around for him. Remembering the last time, you charge your boots and flip backwards just in time to avoid the spear of indigo fire that follows suit. The flame passing below you licks at your already scorched and bruised back, but you keep your wits about you well enough to land immediately beside Myoho. He leaps into the air to dodge your subsequent kick, to which you grin.

"The air's my domain." you say, charging your Stride once more. The boots send you rocketing upward, and you surge to Myoho's level in a matter of seconds. The kick you lash out with is met by his fist, and the two of you trade blows in mid-air in this fashion for six or seven passes, each time blown back and forced to dive toward the other. As the ground rapidly approaches, you throw your body into a spin, leg outstretched. The lightning the follows your boot forms a crackling loop around you, and you manage to barely clip Myoho's shoulder before the two of you hit the ground. Your boots protect you from the weight of your own fall; Evaleii is not so lucky.

As he climbs from the crater he's made in the earth, his eyes blazing with fury, you both freeze dead in your tracks. A sound, like a thousand sheets of metal torn asunder, rips through the air around you. The ground begins to shake and tear, and from the earth behind Myoho, an enormous fissure in the ground begins to open. He throws himself to the side in time to avoid the blur of bronze that slams into the ground, splitting it asunder entirely. You catch a glimpse of the massive thing as it climbs from the earth, though it moves with a speed unfitting of its titanic stature. A golem, crafted from earth and metal, vaguely humanoid in shape, had lashed out with a fist of bronze and rock, barely missing Myoho. Its every movement leaves traces of red flame, and sitting impaled between its shoulders, where a head would ordinarily be, rests your spear in all its metallic glory.

"RUN, LITTLE SORCERER!" Modi Magni screams from his new body, his voice sweeping across the mountains and forest like a tide of fire. "I WILL HAVE YOUR BLOOD."

You grin at the enormous golem as it strikes out with lightning speed, scooping Myoho from the air in a blur of movement and slamming him into the mountainside. You can hear a terrified cry as the people of the village, camped on the mountain, feel the vibrations resound through the rock. A burst of indigo fire frees Evaleii from Modi's grasp, and he plummets to the earth below slinging bolts of the bright blue fire at you, the golem, Sylviannis, and anything else he can hit. Modi Magni absorbs the majority of these shots, placing a huge arm in the way to dissipate a particularly nasty bolt of lower headed toward you. You take the initiative, running up the arm of the golem in leaps and bounds. It's much easier than your run up the Rock Turtle's neck, you realize, and it occurs to you that you may be getting better at this yet.

Streaks of verdant light arc through the air as Sylviannis peppers Myoho's landing site with arcs of green power. You reach where your spear is implanted in the golem's shoulders, and you stand beside it for a moment. A spectral manifestation of Modi Magni has formed around the weapon, watching its destruction with apparent glee.

"Finally decided to stop holding out on me, did you?" you ask, glancing sideways at the spirit. It does not turn to face you as it responds.

"This is a foe worthy of my wrath, Totemist. I urge you to heed my words next time, when I assure you of the power I can grant you when you cooperate with my wishes."

You nod. Without another word, you leap from the towering head of the behemoth, your boots carrying you to dizzying heights in the air. Your hurtling descent comes boot-first, your knife clenched in your fist. As you fall, Amal appears beside you. You glance at him, relieved to see him.

"Tryd is still gathering the notes, Osyki." he says, noting the battle raging around him. The prism begins to rotate at alarming speed. "He'll be by shortly. We may have figured out a way to repel this being, if not bind it."

You nod as you land, your boots missing Myoho as he leaps away from your thunderous drop. "You know where I'll be." you say, repelling a burst of indigo fire with a spinning kick. "Have Tryd wait atop Modi Magni. I'll meet him there."

    > 4, 14, 5, 12

You launch an array of kicks at dizzying speed. The first in ducked, while the second impacts Myoho directly in the chest, blowing a sizeable portion of shadowstuff from his form. He blocks the third kick, and his secondary fist grabs your leg, throwing you toward the mountain. You flip in mid-air, thankful of your boots' ability to cushion you from falls. Myoho forms a sphere of flame around himself as Modi's titanic fist crashes down upon him once more, the metal and rock monster hammering away at the comparatively tiny blue orb with reckless abandon. You glance worriedly at the mountainside as some larger boulders begin to tumble down the hill from the seismic impacts shaking the ground.

    Honestly?

I say keep tag teaming him, send the one free minor spirit to have the people move farther from you (if they hadn't already), and keep him locked in place between you and Modi. You miss a step kicking him-Modi steps in, covers you until you resume. He starts setting up an attack? Modi pushes him a few more meters into the mountain. You just keep getting used to how to use this particular equipment foci with Modi as your safety net.

Sure, this will probably largely only slow him down and piss him off rather than hurt him-but it gives you time to further reduce civilian casualty chances, you are doing it out of the forest so Silvanna, as Spirit of the Forest, should be fine-

Gives you a chance to listen to the repulsion idea-AND time to ask Boa if she or Silvanna know how to contact the mountain spirit, as presumably this is on her turf right now, is it not?

You glance up at the falling rocks, your heart sinking nearly as fast as Modi's fists pummel the dome of flame protecting Myoho. Your villagers are too close to the brawl for your comfort. You call Amal to your side, landing on the slope of the mountain just above the pounding fists.

"Get the villagers further away from here. See if you can find a cave that's not a devourer and have them fortify it until I give them the all-clear. I'll keep this guy busy."

"Be careful, Osyki." Amal says, his tone worried. "This may be out of your league."

You nod, looking at the titan of bronze and rock hammering away at the ground with lightning speed. "It almost certainly is."

You leap, over the cavalcade of punches, to land on Modi's shoulders. Tryd is there, a sheaf of notes poking out of a small bag that he holds. He proffers the notes to you, clearly enraptured by the singularly unrivaled feat of strength that Modi is bringing to bear. You can see places where the orb of flame is starting to flicker and die. Myoho wont keep this up for long.

"No time for reading." you say. "Give me the short version."

"What? Right, sorry." Tryd says, snapping his gaze away from the display below. "Well, long and short of it is this: This is definitely just an avatar of this guy, not the whole hog. It's a being that calls itself the Magus. Your master was wary enough that he hid the notes about him he had away. Hate to say this, Osyki, but if this was the actual guy and not a splinter of him, we'd all be dead."

You frown. "So, what? He can be killed?"

"This one, yeah. Modi look like he's already on his way to doing so. Problem is, he'll just send more splinters if this one fails. We'll need to set up some runes of exclusion around the village. Nasty pieces of work, need human blood for the ritual, but they're likely our best chance."

A sudden roar distracts the both of you as the sphere of flame becomes a column. Modi's fists are blown back from the pillar of blue fire, and you crouch, ready to resume your assault. "Alright, Tryd." you say, grimacing. "Keep those notes safe, and see if you can't aid Amal."

You jump down, your foot encased in a solid sheath of lightning. The electric white clashes with the blue flame, sendings sparks of each in every direction. You glance up at Modi, who is waiting for this display of fire to dissipate.

"THIS WOULD BE FASTER, WERE I UNBOUND." He says, the figure's fists slowly melting into the ground. "JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT."

A sudden burst from beneath the pillar causes its disruption, and you catch a glimpse of My- no, the Magus's splinter flying upward, Modi's fist emerging from the ground beneath him. You rocket upward to meet him, planting you boot in his mouth just as he begins to conjure more flame. He spins wildly in mid-air, all sense of balance lost. You follow the assault up with another lightning barrage of kicks. Two miss entirely, due to the rapid nature with which the splinter spins. The other two are solid, rib-cracking blows; you can see enormous chunks of the shadow blown away, revealing little more than a skeleton beneath. Cracks spiderweb through the revealed ribs, and a core of dark energy pulses in view. Your knife in hand, you prepare to strike.

You lash out with your knife, intent on plunging it into the core of darkness and ending this fight. As your hand passes the barrier of shadow-flesh and into the range of the bone, however, you cry out and draw back. Twin fangs of indigo flame are lodged in your wrist, and blood weeps from the punctures. You hastily kick away from the splinter, landing a fair distance away from his as Modi continues his relentless assault, pummeling the Magus's fragment with constant waves of fist, metal, and cogs. You grit your teeth and hold the fangs of fire, their searing blue flame burning your hands as you pull them from the wound. Blood pours from your wrist, and you feel woozy. This is bad. You can only hope that Modi has the situation under control for the moment.

Sylviannis is at your side, suddenly, holding your wrist in her hands. She grimaces, laying a pair of soft fingers over the punctures.

"Poison." she announces unsteadily. "Shadow magic and poison. You need to stop exerting yourself before this spreads further through your blood. I can fix this, probably, but we need to get you away from here and into a bed."

Refuse, at least not till the Magus splinter is put down/bound/eaten by Moody. Ask for the forest spirit's protection from the poison for the time being, if she could offer it.

But since exertion is not the game, try getting a binding circle going on around the area as Moody hold the damn thing down?

With exception of the magical part of it, poison travels like any othe liquid: through the bloodstream (and in between cells if it's corrosive, in which case we're losing that hand). A tourniquet, followed by dyalisis (just draining that blood then closing to re-allow the bloodflow, no blood cleaning) should keep the poison itself contained. The black magic part of it... I dunno, I'm not a mage. Perhaps sylviana can craft an in situ ward.

    Thank you.

Op, I dunno if you're writing, but if you decide to go with the operation, it's simple: tear off some shirt, have sylvianna tie it just over the elbow, hard enough to bruise if you can. Using our ritual knife, and holding our arm perpendicular to the ground, practice two shallow cuts just below each of the holes left by the fangs. Leave the blood to drip for at least 20 seconds, no need to suck on them. Without the pressure pump from the heart, gravity should allow the poisoned blood to fall. Afterwards, if we can, sew up the wound, then cauterize. Otherwise...straight to cauterization, use the torn shirt to cover.
    >remember to grit and bare teeth, but not scream.

"Sylvia," you begin, grimacing at the poison, "Is there any way I could borrow a portion of your power? I need to keep fighting, at least until the Splinter is destroyed. I can't allow Modi to be the sole defender of this village, and of your forest."

She looks as you for a long moment, as though attempting to decide whether or not she's offended by the request. Finally she sighs, nodding slowly.

"I suppose so, Totemist. Let this be the first test of our mutual trust. I will entrust my power to you, and in exchange, you will afford me one favor of my choosing when this ordeal is done. Are we agreed?"

You think for a moment, and then an incredible lance of pain shoots up your arm. You nod, gasping slightly.

Sylviannis reaches up, plucking a strand of hair from her head. It quickly transforms into a ribbon of green light, which she ties around your wrist. You can feel the soothing, calming flow of the forest's power flow through your veins, and the burning sensation slowly fades. Sylviannis looks flushed, and she quickly turns away from you.

    "Go now, Totemist. Finish this."

You stand, re-invigorated and ready for battle. You flip your knife in your hand, blasting off toward when Modi is engaged attempting to pull the Magus apart by his arms. As a jet of fire blasts through the arms, reducing them to slag and ash, you rush forward to meet him. He sees you coming, and as he falls he extends his arms in front of him, blue fire swirling through each finger.

You twist in mid-air, the fire from the Magus's blast scorching down the left side of your body. You cry out in pain, but your momentum flows forward unimpeded. You can feel the ribbon on your wrist closing the wounds even as you fly. Sylvia's healing is very potent.

Your knife glints in the light as you crash into the splinter, the both of you hurtling toward the ground at accelerated speed. Your stabs are impotent at first, every thrust and slash countered by a flying fist or a burst of flame. You grow increasingly frustrated as you approach the ground, finally crying out in rage. Modi Magni snatches you from the air just before you hit the ground, while the splinter crashes to the earth. You ride the edge of Modi Magni's hand as his palm curls into a fist, surging toward the earth. As his fist is about to hit the prone figure of the splinter you launch into the air. At the apex of your jump, you look down at the figure below you, in a massive fist-print.

    "You come to my village."

You begin flying downward, lightning arcing between you boots and shooting off into the night sky.

    "You threaten my people."

    Your descent becomes meteoric.

"You seek to take one of my own!"

Your teeth are bared at this point as you hurtle toward the earth, tears streaming from your eyes from the force of your descent.

"You are nothing! A figment, a splinter! Leave this place, and tell your true self that you will never breach the borders of this place ever again! This is my village! These are my people! You! ARE! NOT! WELCOME!"

Your foot slams to the ground with a crack of thunder, neatly bisecting the figure below with a bolt of thunder and rage. The dark core dissolves under the force of your blow, and with a massive crack lightning explodes in every direction, a light-show of unrivaled proportions. Modi Magni laughs at your unrestrained fury, clearly pleased. The golem of rock and metal crumbles, sinking into the earth with a deep rumble.

As the figure below you melts away to ash, you hear a great cheer from above. Your people stand at the edge of the peak, cheering with all their might for your success. Even Walther is smiling. You return his grin, then slump to the side. You realize, as the strength leaves your limbs, that you really need to stop ending your fights on the ground.
